# #4 top grossing in Japan, 11k installs worldwide: VidImg's rank came from choosing its category

**What it is** An Android wrapper app built on ByteDance's Seedance video model that generates video from text, images, and video, selling credit packs at $3.59–69.99.

**Why it took off** It didn't really take off. The same team put the same product in the "Personalization" category, where competition is weak. Japan's top-grossing chart for that category had only 16 apps, so a few large credit-pack purchases were enough to land #4. Users came in through small Google ad spend, and reached 11k installs in 68 days.

**C** **How you could follow it** Stop making Seedance wrappers. Copy the category play instead: find categories in each country where the top-grossing chart is short and has no direct competitors, put apps that already make money into them to win rank and store badges, then use the badges as conversion creatives.

Grade C: the product itself has nothing to copy. The model belongs to someone else, the official Dreamina offers free credits, dozens of identical wrappers exist, and this one never grew on its own. The only thing worth learning is the "switch category to chase the top-grossing chart" move, which carries the risk of Google reclassifying the app. Nobody knows about it yet

An AI video generation app ranked #4 on the Japan Google Play "Personalization" top-grossing chart, sitting between Smart Launcher and an edge-lighting app. That rank looks like a business gaining momentum, but it is really a small category-choice trick: that day the category's top-grossing chart had only 16 apps in total, and none of them were AI generators. This piece covers what the app is, how the rank came about, where the money and users come from, and what you can take away from it.

### A chart from Nov 6

In 2026 Nov 6, the Japan Google Play "Personalization" top-grossing chart from the top down: WidgetClub, Niagara Launcher, Smart Launcher 6, and #4 is VidImg | AI Photo & Video. Below it come edge lighting, battery icons, ringtones, fancy-font keyboards, Facer watch faces, Parallel Space app cloning, and Zedge wallpapers, down to #16 OneUI Widgets, where the chart ends (Google Play category charts, 11-06).

The same chart in the US had 135 apps that day, and Mexico and Singapore were full at 200. Japan's chart had only 16, so an AI generator sitting among launchers and widgets stood out naturally. The store page therefore shows a badge: "#4 top grossing personalization."

### What it is

A wrapper built on ByteDance's Seedance video model. It does text-to-image, image-to-video, and regeneration from a reference video. "Seedance" appears seven or eight times in the description but not in the title. Free to download, the store page says "contains ads," and money comes from credit packs at $3.59 to $69.99 each. The latest update was Sep 29, with release notes of just two lines: "Add credit pack in-app purchase feature" and "Bug fixes & payment flow stability improvements."

Launched Aug 30, with 11,190 total installs by Nov 6, up 1,367 in the last 7 days. 78 ratings, and none added after Nov 2 (Google Play, 11-06). The most prominent negative review on the store page is from Oct 8: "The videos it generates have no sound at all. I turned the phone volume all the way up and still nothing. I need to cancel my subscription right away and get a refund." Android only; it cannot be found on the App Store.

### Why the rank looks good

The same team has an almost identical app called Pixvi, launched in June, in the "Art & Design" category, with 20.5k installs, nearly double VidImg's. Its best rank on the Japan "Art & Design" top-grossing chart is only #11, behind model makers and big players like Kling, PixAI, and SeaArt.

Same model, same credit packs, different category, and the rank went from #11 to #4. The top credit pack costs $69.99. On a chart with only 16 apps, mostly earning a few dollars on subscriptions, a handful of paying users can push it to the top (inferred).

It also holds the Personalization top-grossing #55 spot in 11 other countries (Argentina, Mexico, Malaysia, South Africa, Poland, Thailand, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, the Netherlands, the UAE). The rank is identical on the same day, which means it's one shared Play aggregate chart for smaller markets, not 11 countries each with their own revenue. The Mexico list, though, runs a full 200 places, with wallpaper and keyboard apps in the millions to hundreds of millions of installs on either side, so people are clearly paying, just not in a way you can count.

### Where users come from

Mainly small Google app ad campaigns (UAC). They can be seen in the Google Ads Transparency Center, where the advertiser is Hong Kong's Fortune Horse Technology Limited and the payer is ENJOY MOBILE LIMITED, an agency that handles overseas ad buying for Chinese teams. The VidImg video creatives total 3:

| Ad timing | Country |
|---|---|
| 09-01 to 09-06 | UK (ads started on day 2 after launch) |
| 09-06 to 10-24 | Australia, Canada, Germany, the UK, Israel, New Zealand |
| 11-03 to 11-05 | South Korea |

Public European impressions are only a few thousand, so the budget is small. The install curve looks the same: normally a hundred or two a day, with single-day spikes above a thousand in Oct 4 and Oct 8 (third-party estimates). When Korean ads started on Nov 3, it appeared on the Korea "Personalization" free chart on Nov 5 at #101, and was at #43 the next day.

Japan is where it sells best, but the transparency center shows no creatives targeting Japan. It may have run on Meta or Japanese local channels, or it may be organic recommendation from Play in Japan; I could not verify. On TikTok, a search for "vidimg" returns 0 videos. On X, there were 0 posts in 90 days. No media outlet has written about it.

### Who made it

The developer name shown is Tyrone Hub, backed by the Hong Kong company Tyrone Labs Limited (Taichen Longyu Technology), registered in Sep 29 2026. But the official website and privacy policy use the domain of another Hong Kong company, Fortune Horse Technology Limited (駿澤科技), which was registered in May 15 and whose site is a templated "AI creative technology" landing page. tyronehub.com's DNS is hosted on ByteDance's BytePlus. This is a shell opened in Hong Kong by a Chinese overseas team (inferred, high confidence).

Over two-plus months, this account shipped 3 packages on the same model:

| App | Launched | Category | Installs (11-06) | Best rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pixvi | 06-21 | Art & Design | 20,540 | #11 top grossing in Japan for this category |
| Vidfig | 08-22 | Art & Design | 5,994 | #78 top grossing in the US for this category |
| VidImg | 08-30 | Personalization | 11,190 | #4 top grossing in Japan for this category |

VidImg is the third, and the only one put under Personalization. That looks deliberate: same product, see which category has the lowest Top Grossing bar.

### Who it's competing with

It sits at the back of the Seedance wrapper wave. Dozens of Android apps mention Seedance in their listings alone:

| Competitors | Installs (11-06) | How it differs from VidImg |
|---|---|---|
| Dreamina AI (ByteDance official) | 6.02M | The official app sells Seedance directly, with free credits |
| CapCut (ByteDance) | ₩2.06B | Video editing app with built-in AI video |
| Seedance 2.5 Video Generator | 124k, +14k in 7 days | Named Seedance outright, so it catches search traffic |
| SeeGen AI: Seedance 2.0 & 2.5 | 112k | Same wrapper, aimed at the US |
| Seedance 2.0 & 2.5 - ArtGen | 21k, +4,600 over 7 days | Built by an indie dev, growing faster than VidImg |
| Kling / Hailuo / PixVerse | 27.8M to 79.6M | Model makers' own apps |

The model belongs to someone else, the official app already sells it and gives free credits. VidImg is the smallest of this group, and the product has nothing others don't have.

### If it were you

**C. Don't copy VidImg, copy its category trick.** Another Seedance wrapper makes no sense: the official Dreamina has 6M installs and free credits, dozens of clones exist, and VidImg itself gets only 11k installs in 68 days, with its rating already flat. The only thing worth taking is this: the same product in a different category can have a Top Grossing bar several times lower.

**Who it suits** : a small global team that already has an app that earns money, runs small Google UAC budgets, and wants a cheap "Top N grossing" store badge.

**Who it doesn't suit** : indie devs hoping to earn from the product itself. Wrapper AI generators lose a big slice of margin to model API costs, quality follows upstream, and when users complain "no sound" you can't fix it.

**How to do it** : compare your app's Top Grossing chart length and bar across categories and countries, and find the ones where fewer than 20 to 30 apps are charted and there are no direct rivals (Japan's Personalization is one). Put one package in one category and watch ranks for two to three weeks; keep the good ones. The category has to make sense: squeezing an AI generator into Personalization is already a stretch.

**How to acquire users** : do what it did. Start with small UAC budgets in English-speaking markets like the UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand, then add countries based on chart feedback. Once you have the badge, put "#4 top grossing" in store screenshots and ad creatives.

**When to move** : this only works while the charts are quiet. The more AI apps pile into the obscure categories, the faster the bar rises. The Seedance wrapper wave will also close as the official apps spread, so if you want to test it, do it before year-end.

**Signs you've misread it** : 1) VidImg's installs suddenly accelerate and its rating climbs again, meaning it found a real traffic source (probably Japan), and it's worth studying how it acquires users there; 2) it gets moved out of Personalization or delisted, meaning Google doesn't accept this placement and you shouldn't copy it; 3) it drops out of the top 10 in Japan and never comes back, meaning that #4 was propped up by a few large credit-pack purchases and was a one-off.

Competitors

| Name | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs from this one |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pixvi: AI Video & Image (same team) | Android | 2026-06-21 | 20.5k installs, +1,104 in 7 days, #11 Top Grossing in Japan's ART_AND_DESIGN | Nearly identical features, placed in ART_AND_DESIGN, competing with Kling, PixAI and SeaArt for charts; VidImg moved to PERSONALIZATION and its rank looks far better |
| Vidfig: AI Video Maker (same team) | Android | 2026-08-22 | About 6 thousand installs, #78 Top Grossing in the US ART_AND_DESIGN | A similar package listed 8 days before VidImg, mainly paid Google ads in the US, and performed worse |
| Dreamina AI / CapCut (ByteDance official) | Big-company features | Dreamina on Android 2026-06-02; CapCut 2020 | Dreamina 6.02M installs; CapCut 2.06B installs | The official app offers Seedance directly with free credits; VidImg just resells the same model under a different wrapper |
| Seedance 2.5 Video Generator(WECODE LTD.) | Android | 2026-05-26 | 124k installs, 7 days +14k | The app is named Seedance outright and catches search traffic; its scale is 10 times VidImg's |
| SeeGen AI: Seedance 2.0 & 2.5(Fillog Studio) | Android | 2026-03-05 | 112k installs, #35 Top Grossing in the US ART_AND_DESIGN | Also a Seedance wrapper, riding on a version number in the title, aimed at the US |
| Seedance 2.0 & 2.5 - ArtGen(shahzaib ali) | Android | 2026-08-07 | 21k installs, 7 days +4.6k | An indie dev's copy of the same wrapper, growing faster than VidImg |
| Kling AI / Hailuo AI / PixVerse / Vidu | Android | 2024-09 to 2025-03 | Kling 34.8M, Hailuo 27.8M, PixVerse 79.6M, Vidu 2.33M installs | The model makers' own apps, with their own models, templates and branding; they top Japan's ART_AND_DESIGN Top Grossing chart |

Where users come from

- **Verified** **Google UAC video ads (via agency Enjoy Global)** : googleads library: advertiser Fortune Horse Technology Limited (Hong Kong, verified), payer ENJOY MOBILE LIMITED, 10 video creatives, starting at 2026-07-02; ads land on com.vidimg.app: 3 entries: GB 09-01 to 09-06, AU/CA/DE/GB/IL/NZ 09-06 to 10-24, KR 11-03 to 11-05; European impressions only in the low thousands

- **Verified** **Category pick: put it in PERSONALIZATION to chase the grossing rank** : Google Play library: 11-06 In the Japan PERSONALIZATION Top Grossing chart there are only 16 apps, and VidImg has sat at #4 since 10-29, mostly ranking 3–4. The rest are all wallpapers, launchers and widgets. Its sibling Pixvi only reached #11 in ART_AND_DESIGN. That is why the Play store page shows the badge "#4 top grossing personalization".

- **Verified** **Korea spend pulls it onto the free chart** : Google ads in KR started 11-03, and from 11-05 it appeared on Korea's PERSONALIZATION Top Free chart (101 to 43)

- Inference **Source of Japanese users** : Japan Top Grossing #3 to #4, Top Free #45 to #60, and the only review in the library is the Japanese "良い" (good); but the Google Ads Transparency Center shows no creatives targeting Japan, so where the Japanese traffic comes from is unverified

- Inference **Riding the Seedance model name for ASO** : Seedance appears more than 7 times in the listing; the title doesn't use it, so its search traffic should be weaker than rivals that name Seedance directly

- Inference **TikTok / X / press / creators** : TikHub search for vidimg returned 0 results; x-radar over 90 days returned 0 posts; tiktokads library checked 11-02: no_ads

## VidImg | AI Photo & Video (com.vidimg.app) research report

> Channel: Google Play; developer shown as Tyrone Hub (legal entity Tyrone Labs Limited, Hong Kong), with the website and privacy policy on the greatfortunehorse.com domain of Fortune Horse Technology Limited; listed 2026-08-30; category PERSONALIZATION. Data as of 2026-11-06.

### Bottom line

**It never really took off; the signal that surfaced it came from category choice.** In 68 days it had only 11k global installs and 78 ratings. "#4 Top Grossing in Japan's Personalization" looks strong, but that day Japan's Personalization Top Grossing chart had only 16 apps in total, the rest wallpapers, launchers and widgets, and VidImg was the only AI generator on it. Pixvi, the same team with nearly identical features, sits in ART_AND_DESIGN and ranks only #11 Top Grossing in Japan, ahead of Kling, PixAI and SeaArt. VidImg is a wrapper around the Seedance video model, and users mainly come in through small Google UAC campaigns.

### 1. What it is

- Uses ByteDance's Seedance video model for text-to-image, image-to-video and reference-video redrawing. The listing repeatedly says "Seedance"; the title doesn't.

- Monetization: in-app credit packs at $3.59 to $69.99 per tier (the lowest-priced pack dropped from $3.99 to $3.59 starting 11-02), store page marked "Contains ads"; the latest update note reads "Add credit pack in-app purchase feature". No updates since version 1.0.6,2026-09-29.

- Ratings: US store 4.43 (78 ratings), Japan store page 4.1 (80 reviews). One-star reviews grew from 10-31 of 3 to 11-01 of 7. The pinned negative review (10-08) says "The generated videos have no sound... I want to cancel the subscription and get a refund." (googleplay library app_snap; Play store page gl=jp)

- No iOS version (the appstore library found neither by name nor by developer).

### 2. Data: how big it actually is

| Date | Total installs | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 2026-09-26 | 1,964 | AppstoreSpy estimate (app_day_ext) |
| 2026-10-04 | 5,673 (1,708 in a single day) | AppstoreSpy estimate |
| 2026-10-08 | 6,844 (1,156 in a single day) | AppstoreSpy estimate |
| 2026-10-29 | 9,823 | googleplay library |
| 2026-11-06 | 11,190 (7 days +1,367) | googleplay library |

- Normally 100 to 300 installs a day, with two single-day spikes over a thousand in between; the shape looks like paid acquisition, not organic growth.

- From 11-02 the rating has stalled at 78 and stopped climbing.

- Charts (googleplay library chart_rank, 10-29 to 11-06):
    - Japan PERSONALIZATION Top Grossing: 3–4 spots, holding steady. **This chart has only 16 apps in 11-06** ; the US store's equivalent chart has 135, and Mexico and Singapore each have 200.
    - Japan PERSONALIZATION Top Free: #45 to #60.
    - On the same day, the PERSONALIZATION Top Grossing charts for these 11 countries showed identical ranks (#41 to #56): AR / MX / MY / ZA / PL / TH / TR / SA / SG / NL / AE. That is Play's small-country aggregate chart, not 11 countries each earning revenue. On Mexico's 200-app chart, VidImg is #55, surrounded by wallpaper and keyboard apps with millions to hundreds of millions of installs, which shows its paid rate is not zero.
    - Korea PERSONALIZATION Top Free: #11-05 then #101,11-06 then #43, which lines up with the Korea Google ads starting 11-03 (see below).
    - The UK Top Free chart showed it on 10-29 and 10-30, at #178 to #184, for two days.

### 3. Team: one team putting out three wrapper packages

The googleplay library lists 3 apps under Tyrone Hub, all with the support email support@greatfortunehorse.com:

| App | Launched | Category | Installs (11-06) | Best rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pixvi: AI Video & Image | 2026-06-21 | ART_AND_DESIGN | 20,540 | Japan ART_AND_DESIGN Top Grossing 11 |
| Vidfig: AI Video Maker | 2026-08-22 | ART_AND_DESIGN | 5,994 | US ART_AND_DESIGN Top Grossing 78 |
| VidImg | 2026-08-30 | **PERSONALIZATION** | 11,190 | Japan PERSONALIZATION Top Grossing 4 |

- Fortune Horse Technology Limited(駿澤科技有限公司)2026-05-15 registered in Hong Kong ([HK company registry new registrations](https://www.cr.gov.hk/docs/wrpt/RNC063_2026.05.11-2026.05.17.pdf)); the site [greatfortunehorse.com](https://www.greatfortunehorse.com/index.html) is a templated "AI creative technology" landing page.

BytePlus([who.is](https://who.is/nameserver/ns1.byteplusdns.com))。AppBrain 的旧页面上开发者还叫「Fortune Horse」,说明开发者账号后来改挂到了 Tyrone 名下。

- Verdict: this is a Chinese going-global team using a Hong Kong shell. Over two-plus months they shipped 3 apps built on the same model and tested them in two categories. VidImg is the third app, and the only one placed in PERSONALIZATION.

### 4. Competitors

| Competitors | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs from VidImg |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dreamina AI (ByteDance official) | Android | 2026-06-02 | 6.02M installs | Official Seedance access, plus a free quota |
| CapCut (ByteDance) | Android | 2020 | 2.06B installs | Built-in AI video features |
| Seedance 2.5 Video Generator(WECODE) | Android | 2026-05-26 | 124k, +14k in 7 days | Title literally says Seedance, capturing search traffic |
| SeeGen AI: Seedance 2.0 & 2.5(Fillog) | Android | 2026-03-05 | 112k | Same wrapper, aimed at the US |
| Seedance 2.0 & 2.5 - ArtGen | Android | 2026-08-07 | 21k, +4.6k in 7 days | An individual developer's wrapper, growing faster than VidImg |
| Kling / Hailuo / PixVerse / Vidu | Android | 2024-09 to 2025-03 | 2.33M to 79.6M | Model makers' own apps |
| Pixvi, Vidfig | Android | 2026-06 / 08 | 21k / 6k | Same team, placed in the ART_AND_DESIGN category |

(Scale from the googleplay library app_profile, 11-06)

Dozens of Android apps in the library mention Seedance in their descriptions alone. By scale, VidImg ranks at the bottom of this group.

### 5. Growth tactics (with evidence)

1. **Google UAC video ads, confirmed.** In the googleads library, the advertiser is Fortune Horse Technology Limited (Hong Kong, verified), and the payer is ENJOY MOBILE LIMITED. That's "Enjoy Going Global", a Chinese going-global ad agency whose CEO Jin Xiang previously worked at Tencent ([LinkedIn](https://cn.linkedin.com/in/dima-jin-enjoypay-%F0%9F%94%9C-gamescom-asia-b889a5103/zh-cn)). This advertiser has 10 video creatives in total, starting 2026-07-02, and 3 of them point to VidImg:
    - CR00336951325516365825: UK, 09-01 to 09-06 (began running 2 days after launch)
    - CR15041280524939165697: Australia, Canada, Germany, UK, Israel, New Zealand, 09-06 to 10-24
    - CR12037135859858800641: South Korea, 11-03 to 11-05
    - Public impressions in Europe are only in the thousands, suggesting a very small budget.

2. **Category choice, confirmed.** Placed in PERSONALIZATION, it reached #4 Top Grossing in Japan, and the Play Store page shows a "#4 top grossing personalization" badge (original store text), which can be used as conversion material.

3. **Where Japanese traffic came from: not found.** Japan is its strongest store (Pixvi also does well there), but Google's transparency center shows no Japan-targeted creatives. It could be Meta or local Japanese channels, or organic Play recommendations; unverified.

4. **TikTok, X, press: none.** TikHub search for "vidimg" returned 0 results; x-radar 90 days, 0 results; tiktokads library 11-02 checked, no European-region ads; the metaads library has nothing either.

### 6. Why it was recalled / why the rank looks good

- The recall saw "10k installs and Japan Top Grossing #4, peaking at $69.99" and judged its payment signal strong. The reality: **the Japan PERSONALIZATION Top Grossing chart has only 16 apps** , an extremely low bar. The control group is Pixvi, from the same team, which ranks only #11 in the normally competitive ART_AND_DESIGN category.

- Its #55 rank on the Mexico aggregate chart (a full chart of 200 spots) shows people are indeed paying, but the volume can't be estimated.

- Credit packs top out at $69.99 with high ARPPU, so a few paying users can sustain the ranking.

### 7. Differentiation

The product has no differentiation: the model is ByteDance's, the features match official Dreamina and a dozen other Seedance wrappers, and the UI is nothing special. Its only distinguishing factor is the **category choice** . That choice gives it a good rank in a weak category with no AI generators, but it hasn't brought growth. Installs rank at the bottom of its peer group, and ratings have stopped rising.

### 8. What to borrow

- Build several shells on the same model API, place each in a different category, and test which category has the lowest Top Grossing bar.

- High Top Grossing ranks in small categories appear as badges on the store page and can serve as conversion material.

- Start ad spend small in English-speaking markets (UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Israel), then add regions like South Korea based on chart feedback.

- Risks: Google may judge placing an AI generator under "Personalization" as a miscategorization; look-alike wrapper apps are easily taken down in bulk; the negative reviews center on "no sound" and "need to cancel", showing the product quality can't carry it.

### 9. Still unclear

- Where Japan's traffic and payments come from.

- The actual revenue.

- Why the developer moved from Fortune Horse to Tyrone Hub / Tyrone Labs.

- Whether the backend directly calls BytePlus's Seedance API. The tyronehub.com use of BytePlus DNS is only circumstantial evidence.
