One photo, one dance: Nocty AI, #112 on India's Top Grossing chart, and the row of shells behind it
What it is An Android app: upload one portrait photo, apply a dance, gesture or transition template to generate an AI short video. Monetized with in-app purchases on a credit system ($1.99–$99.99).
Why it took off It didn't really go viral. A Vietnamese shell company bought installs in batches through renamed packages, pushing installs past a hundred thousand and landing it around #100 on India's Entertainment Top Grossing chart, a low-barrier, crowded chart of similar apps.
CHow you could follow it Don't build another photo-dance app. If you want to copy it, copy the matrix playbook: Entertainment category, low-barrier regions, small-budget tests of new brands under new packages, moved onto template themes or audiences that aren't yet saturated.

Nocty AI is an Android app where you upload one portrait and apply templates to generate dance videos. Under four months after launch it has 168k installs and reached #112 on India's Entertainment Top Grossing chart. It looks like a small hit, but up close it's something else: the product is identical to hundreds of others, the installs were bought in batches, and it charted because that chart has a low bar. What's worth studying is the playbook, not the product.
A review saying "your device will be permanently banned"
In 2026 October 6, an Indian user named chhotu yadav left a Google Play review on Nocty AI: "As soon as I opened the app, I saw this message: 'This device will be permanently banned from accessing this app.' I think this might be a mistake…" 16 people marked it helpful. Three days earlier, another user, Sanjoy Paul, wrote something shorter: "The most useless app in the world, it takes your money just to generate one image." (Google Play store page, 11-06)
These two reviews pretty much sum up the product: users are in India; the free quota runs out hard, and trying to farm free credits on the same device gets you banned outright; the paywall is steep. The in-app purchases in the store run from $1.99 up to $99.99 per item, with no ads.
What it is
Open the store page and the first line of the description reads "Bring your photos to life with Vorix AI". The app is called Nocty AI, the description hasn't been updated, and the package is still com.vorix.vorixai. The mechanics are the usual ones: upload a clear front-facing photo, pick a template (dance, gesture, transition, guitar, black-wing fire effect), and wait for the AI to turn the photo into a few-second video. You can't write free-form prompts, only apply templates.
The developer is registered as NEURIVA TECHNOLOGY COMPANY LIMITED in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, with this as its only app. The privacy policy sits at app.vorixai.xyz, the contact email is a personal Gmail, and the terms read like a translation from a Chinese template. On iOS there was an earlier app with the same name, Nocty AI, credited to an Indian individual, making black-wing and fire-effect videos. It was pulled in July. Inference: the same team first tested the brand on iOS under a personal account, then moved to a fresh Android shell to scale.
Installs climbed in steps
| Timeline | Total installs | What happened |
|---|---|---|
| 07-13 | — | Store launch |
| 10-04 | About 37k | The earliest reviews appear in late September; real operations likely began at the end of September. |
| 10-08 | About 88k | About 52k in a single day (third-party estimate) |
| 10-29 | 143k | 10-21 another day with about 12k (third-party estimate) |
| 11-06 | 168k | 7 days +25k, roughly 3,600 a day |
(Google Play installs, 11-06; single-day figures are third-party estimates, so only the shape is meaningful)
A spike of 50k in one day, then back to a few hundred to a few thousand a day, is not the shape organic word of mouth produces. It looks more like staged paid campaigns (inference). Two things could be carrying it: the in-app purchase price is high, so one paying user covers the acquisition cost of several installs; and the official TikTok account @nocty_ai has only 11 followers and 17 videos, with single videos getting 100 to 2,600 views, and it stopped posting after April. Nobody on X has mentioned it in nearly 90 days, and the only places you find it online are download sites like APKPure. There's no presence in content, yet the numbers keep rising, and the remaining explanation is paid acquisition. None of the public ad libraries show it, but small apps like this often aren't in them, so not being found doesn't mean it isn't advertised.
It has 6,223 ratings averaging 4.56 stars, adding about 100 a day, but very few written reviews. This is common in the category: the app pops up a star-only rating prompt. Over 8 days, the 1-star count went from 208 to 319, so more people are unhappy.
Why it could get onto the chart
Because that chart is easy to get into. 11-06 On India's Entertainment Top Grossing chart, the app right below it at #111 has only 74K installs, and #116 has 100K; the top 200 includes roughly 40 AI photo and video generation apps. Ranking #112 shows it is actually taking in money in India, but not how much. Since Nov 5 it has also shown up at #175 to #192 on the Entertainment Top Free charts in Poland and Mexico, which looks like it is testing new markets.
One more detail: it's listed under Entertainment rather than Photography. That category has more competitors, but its Top Grossing bar is low enough that a hundred-thousand-plus installs gets you visible.
Who's competing: a whole row of identical shells
Nocty has no dedicated copycat. It's just one of many identical apps. Searching for the same traits (released in 2026, Entertainment category, in-app purchases priced at $1.99–$99.99, a Vietnamese-style "XX TECHNOLOGY / LABS COMPANY LIMITED" name, a Gmail contact address, a .xyz privacy page) turns up several others:
| Product | Shell behind it | Installs (11-06) |
|---|---|---|
| AI Seduce / AI Wicked | QUANTIX LABS | 1.04M / 670k |
| AI Midnight / AI Nearlove | SKYHORIZON TECHNOLOGY | 730k / 120k |
| AI Sweeter | EverLuu Technology | 330k |
| Nocty AI | NEURIVA TECHNOLOGY | 170k |
| DancePop | FuMaoMao | 1.25M, #46 on the same Indian chart |
| Mylolens / Vistell / Flarcast | Pixel Dream Works | 15–200k, ranked #40–123 on the same chart |
Higher up are the ones that built the format and have their own models or brands: PixVerse (79.6M installs), Kling (34.8M), Viggle (10.8M), Dance AI / Shots (1.33M / 2.55M). Above them are the big-company free or bundled features, like CapCut templates, Gemini and Adobe Firefly. The shells have been pushed into lower-tier regions and rely on paid acquisition for users. Among this row, Nocty is mid-to-lower in scale.
How it differs from the rest
Basically it doesn't. Templates, pricing and pages are all the same as the ones above. The only two choices that could count are operational: no sign-up, credits bought per use, plus device-level bans to stop abuse; and focusing only on India. Neither of these is why it grew. The volume was bought. How far any shell can go depends on creative and bids far more than on the product itself.
If it were you
C. You can learn a playbook from it, but copying this product on its own isn't worth it.
One-line verdict: this business makes money by running a matrix. One shell, one brand, the same templates and pricing, names rotated, paid into low-barrier regions. What counts is acquisition efficiency, not the product. If you clone Nocty, you're the N+1th shell in that row, with PixVerse and CapCut sitting on top.
Who it suits: small teams already buying paid acquisition for tool apps, with existing ad accounts and a creative pipeline, who want a playbook they can replicate in bulk. Or people who want to learn how to pick categories and regions and how to test a brand under a new package.
Who it doesn't suit: anyone who hasn't run ads and is counting on organic traffic or TikTok to take off on its own (Nocty's official account has 11 followers). Anyone who wants to win on product differentiation but only plans to apply templates. Anyone worried about Google Play delisting or about having to start over with a new shell.
How to do it: if you go this route, don't make another photo-dance app. Move the playbook onto template themes or audiences that aren't saturated yet (a country's festivals, religious events, weddings, or templates built around a local celebrity's dance style), or build what this row of shells doesn't offer: free-form generation, batch creation, product-image videos for small merchants. Technically it's calling an off-the-shelf video generation API, with a template-plus-credits paywall and device-level anti-abuse.
How to acquire users: file under Entertainment, start with a low-barrier Top Grossing market like India, spend small budgets on Google App Campaigns or Meta, push a single package to a hundred-thousand-plus installs and see whether it reaches a top chart spot, then decide whether to add budget or rename and restart. The creative is a before-and-after of "one photo becomes a dance video."
Deadline: there's no hard deadline, but every extra free feature from the big companies narrows this path. If you're going to test it, validate it with one package before year-end.
Signs you've misread it: (1) Nocty or similar apps keep climbing over the next month or two, get into the top 50 of India's chart, and start charting in more countries. That would mean the margin in this stretch is thicker than it looks. (2) The reverse: this family of shells starts getting pulled in batches, meaning the platform is cleaning up and the window is closing.

- Inferred Paid acquisition (mainly India, with Poland and Mexico tests from November): the install curve is step-shaped (10-08 in one day +52k, 10-21 in one day +12k), there is no presence on content channels, and high-priced in-app purchases can support the CPI. How Nocty AI (com.vorix.vorixai) got onto the charts
In one line: Nocty AI is an Android app that turns a single portrait photo into AI short videos of dancing, hand gestures, and transitions using templates. The developer is a Vietnamese shell company (NEURIVA TECHNOLOGY COMPANY LIMITED, Ho Chi Minh City), and the package name still carries the predecessor's name, Vorix AI. It didn't "break through": the product itself is nothing unusual, organic traffic on content channels is nearly absent, and the install curve jumps in bursts, which looks like batched paid buys. It reached the charts because the bar for India Entertainment Top Grossing around #100 is low, and that tier was already crowded with similar AI photo-video shells.

A few takeaways:
- The curve is step-shaped: one day brought in 50k, then it fell back to a few hundred to a few thousand a day. Organic word of mouth doesn't produce this shape; the most likely explanation is staged ad spend. Pushing volume right after a new package goes live also fits. By 10-04 it had 36k installs, while the earliest review is from 9-24, which suggests real operations began in late September, not July.
- Many ratings, almost no text reviews: the rating count is 3.7% of installs, and there are only 1 text reviews. Its peer DancePop (1.25M installs, 49,779 ratings, 12 text reviews) looks the same, likely because the in-app star-rating prompt drives those numbers; this is normal for the category. Over 8 days the 1-star count rose from 208 to 319, so some users are starting to complain (app_snap histogram).
- The top-grossing bar is low: 11-06 On India's Entertainment Top Grossing chart, right next to it are FilmForge (#111, 74k installs) and Shadivo (#116, 100k installs); in the top 200, roughly 40 are AI photo/video generation apps (chart_rank 11-06). Ranking #112 only shows it's getting some real payments in India. It says nothing about scale.
2. Who it is: a rebranded shell
- The package name is
com.vorix.vorixai, and the first line of the store listing still reads "Bring your photos to life with Vorix AI"; the privacy policy sits atapp.vorixai.xyz/privacy_policy.html, but its title is already "Nocty AI Privacy Policy". So it launched as Vorix AI and was later renamed Nocty AI. - The privacy policy names the controller as NEURIVA TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD, at 163 Nguyen Van Troi, Phu Nhuan, Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam); the contact is a personal Gmail address, [email protected]. The terms ("minimum necessary", "purpose limitation", "notified via in-app pop-up") clearly read like a Chinese template translated into English (web: app.vorixai.xyz/privacy_policy.html, read via Jina).
- On iOS there is another "Nocty AI" (id6757856373), developer credited to an Indian individual, Nikita Yadav; the description is also in translation-ese ("Addressing the issues of users lacking special effects production skills, high shooting costs…") and covers special-effects videos like black wings and flames (appstor.io mirror page). Apple lookup in us/no/in now returns nothing, so it has been removed; our recall card records a listing on 2026-01-20 and removal on 7-23. The TikTok account @nocty_ai posted 17 videos between 2025-12 and 2026-04, with 11 followers and single-video views of 100–2,600 (TikHub). It's reasonable to infer the same team first tested the brand on iOS under a personal account, then moved it to a new Android shell after iOS removal.
- There are plenty of shells running the same playbook (googleplay library: Entertainment category, launched 2026, in-app purchases all $1.99–$99.99, Vietnamese-style "XX TECHNOLOGY/LABS COMPANY LIMITED" names, Gmail contacts, privacy pages at
/privacy_policy.htmlon .xyz/.top domains):- QUANTIX LABS COMPANY LIMITED: AI Seduce (launched 09-08, 1.04M installs), AI Wicked (666k)
- SKYHORIZON TECHNOLOGY COMPANY LIMITED: AI Midnight (729k), AI Nearlove (116k)
- EverLuu Technology Company Limited: AI Sweeter (331k)
- NEURIVA: Nocty AI (168k). A separate family uses the privacy-page format
file.<name>.xyz/<name>/privacy.htmlwith personal names from Pakistan, Indonesia, and Egypt (ApexPixel 125k, Motionly 137k, Framegen 37k, MotoPic 35k, PortraLabs, PicMo, VidGen). These all look like the same matrix team: one shell per brand, same templates and pricing. Nocty is mid-to-low within this family.
3. Competitors
| Product | Platform | Launched | Scale | How it differs from Nocty |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PixVerse | Android / iOS / web | 2024-09 | 79.6M installs, +520k in 7 days | A genuine in-house model, with both templates and free generation; Nocty only offers templates |
| Kling AI (Kuaishou) | Android / iOS / web | 2024 | 34.8M installs | A big-tech model maker; shells like this likely call its API or those of Seedance and others (which one Nocty uses is unverified) |
| Viggle AI | Android / iOS / web | 2024 | Play 10.8M installs | An original built around "photo dancing", launched via Discord/TikTok |
| DancePop(FuMaoMao) | Android | 2026 | 1.25M installs, +83k in 7 days; #46 on India Ent Top Grossing | Also dance videos, 7× Nocty's scale, and far higher on the same chart |
| DanceHit(ScaleUp/HubX) | Android/iOS | 2026 | 406k installs, #21 on US Photography Top Grossing | Targets high-paying Western markets with weekly subscriptions; Nocty's revenue only shows up in India |
| Dance AI / Shots(DeePix) | Android/iOS | 2025 | 1.33M / 2.55M installs | The top studio that built this category |
| Mylolens / Vistell / Flarcast(Pixel Dream Works) | Android | 2026 | 15–200k installs, #40–123 on India Entertainment Top Grossing | Same chart tier and the same shell-matrix approach as Nocty |
| AI Seduce / AI Wicked / AI Midnight and other Vietnamese shells | Android | 2026 | 66–1.04M installs | Nearly the same playbook, bigger than Nocty |
| CapCut templates, Gemini/Veo, Adobe Firefly image-to-video | Big-company features | Already there | Hundreds of millions of users | Offered free or bundled, which pushes shells like this into lower-tier channels |
(Figures from the googleplay library 11-06; also cross-referenced existing reports in this directory: DanceHit, PixClip, Mosa, Boomio)
4. Where users come from
- Paid acquisition (inferred, very likely): step-shaped install curve (10-08 in one day 52k, 10-21 in one day 12k, 10-31 to 11-03 combined 18k), zero presence on content channels, and high-priced in-app purchases that can support CPI; all point to paid buys. But the Meta, Google, and TikTok (EU) ad libraries show nothing for Nocty, Vorix, or NEURIVA; it's not on those trackers' lists, so a miss doesn't mean no spend. Spend appears to be mainly in India (the only market with Top Grossing placements), with Poland and Mexico tests starting in November.
- TikTok and creators: none. The official account has 11 followers; searching "Nocty AI" returns trending videos unrelated to it (TikHub).
- X and media: none. x-radar shows 0 posts in the last 90 days; Jina search only turned up aggregator sites like AppBrain, APKPure, and appstor.io.
- Store search/ASO: a little. The India Entertainment Top Grossing placement provided some exposure; the title "Nocty AI" has no keywords, so ASO contributes limited volume.
- Rebrand and carrying over the old brand: it reused the iOS Nocty AI brand name and assets, but that iOS app was itself tiny, so there was no meaningful base of old users to migrate.
5. Differentiation
Essentially none. The templates (dancing, gestures, transitions, guitar playing, black-wing and flame effects) are the same as DancePop, Mylolens, DanceHit, and hundreds of other shells. Only two things are actually different, both at the operations level:
- Credit packs with no sign-up, pay per use: the privacy policy says no account is needed; it sells "creation credits, exclusive templates, HD export," with prices going up to $99.99. Our recall card also mentions reviews reporting permanent device bans, which suggests device-level risk control to stop free-quota abuse (not in our review library; unverified).
- Focus on the Indian market: most shells in this family target Indonesia, Thailand, and Mexico, while Nocty's revenue signal shows up only in India.
None of these explain how it got traction. Its volume was mostly bought; which shell gets those installs depends on creatives and bids far more than on the product.
6. What to borrow
- This category runs on a matrix, not a product: a shell company (Vietnam, Hong Kong, or a personal name) paired with a .xyz domain and a translated privacy template, a uniform $1.99–$99.99 credit/subscription price, and brands rotated through low-bar markets (India, Indonesia, Thailand, Mexico) in the Entertainment category. A single shell reaching a few hundred thousand installs and briefly showing a Top Grossing rank on a smaller chart is enough to decide whether it's worth spending more on.
- Place it in Entertainment rather than Photography: about 40% of the top 200 in India's category are AI photo/video apps, but the bar for #100 Top Grossing is only 7–170k installs.
- For us this space is already crowded, with big-company free features like Gemini and CapCut pressing down on it. Building in this direction has very little value. The only things worth borrowing are two: the rhythm of "test the brand on an iOS personal account first, then ship on a fresh Android shell at scale," and the way it picks categories and countries.
7. Still unclear
- Ad channels and spend: none of the three ad libraries show it. Whether it's Google UAC, Meta, or an Indian local ad network, there's no way to confirm.
- Who's behind it: a Vietnamese shell company plus Chinese-style translated legal text points to a Chinese team going global through a Vietnamese entity, but there's no direct evidence. Whether it's the same owner as QUANTIX, SKYHORIZON, or EverLuu is also unverified.
- Which video model they use, conversion rate, and refund rate: all unknown.
- The "device permanently banned" review comes from a recall card. Our review table has no review from it (it never fell into our review collection scope).
- Installs arrive in batches: whether the +12,985 on 11-03 is a multi-day total or a single day depends on app_day's observation interval. AppstoreSpy's daily estimates shouldn't be taken at face value either.
