Second look at a short-drama app: why Drama World Pro is growing faster than its "original"
What it is An Android app for free sweet-romance, werewolf and revenge vertical short dramas. All episodes are unlocked, and it makes money by inserting 1 to 4 ad breaks per episode. It's one of more than a dozen sock-puppet packages from a Chinese short-drama distributor.
Why it took off One Facebook page runs concentrated paid acquisition for it and a dozen-plus sibling packages in the Philippines, Latin America and Southeast Asia. When growth on the original slowed, the team pushed the same content under a new Pro package to get another round of recommendation placement for a new app. It also rode the shift in overseas short dramas from paid to free-with-ads in 2026.
CHow you could follow it Don't make short dramas yourself. Instead, apply the distribution method of "one backend, multiple packages in succession, one page for all paid acquisition" to a category where you can already pay back with ads, provided you can run Meta ads and handle the policy risk of sock-puppet packages.

Drama World Pro is a free Android short-drama app on Google Play. It launched on Sep 16, had about 730k cumulative installs by Nov 6, and peaked at #4 on the Philippines overall chart. Oddly, it has the same content and interface as Drama World, which launched in July under the same developer account. The only difference is the "Pro" in the name. Yet in the last 7 days, Pro added 690k while the original added only 550k. It isn't a new product. It's a Chinese free-short-drama distributor running the same push again under a new package. Below: how the playbook works, where the money comes from, and what a small team can take from it.
One review and the one that answered it
On the evening of Nov 2, a Filipino user left a 1-star review on Drama World Pro: "I spend more time watching ads than using this app. Every time I try to close the ad, it takes me straight to Google Play to download the app from the ad."
The next morning, another Filipino user gave 5 stars: "You can watch the full drama with just a little ad, unlike other apps that lock you out after a few episodes."
These two reviews describe the same thing from opposite sides. Drama World Pro sells exactly this trade: the shows are free, no membership and no coins to unlock. The cost is 1 to 4 ads before and after each episode, some lasting a minute or two. People who like it come for the "free", and people who hate it get pushed away by the ads. For the operator, both kinds of users have already watched the ads.
What it is
You open it to the home-page recommendations, pick a show and watch. The store description is four steps: "Open the app ↓ Browse recommendations ↓ Choose a drama ↓ Start watching". The genres are sweet romance, werewolf, revenge-and-comeback and twist-filled mystery, the same vertical short-drama formula that ReelShort and DramaBox spent the last few years teaching the world.
Where it differs from ReelShort and DramaBox is the monetization. Those two give the first few episodes free and charge per episode or by subscription after that. Drama World Pro is free throughout and earns from interstitial and rewarded-video ads. The store also lists in-app purchases priced $7.99–$29.99 (probably ad removal or membership), but a third-party estimate puts its in-app revenue over the last 30 days at under $5,000 (AppGazers, 11-06). Almost all the money comes from ads.
How fast it grew
| Date | Total installs | Score |
|---|---|---|
| 10-29 | 41,331 | 5,805 |
| 10-31 | 227,497 | 8,159 |
| 11-03 | 547,696 | 12,763 |
| 11-06 | 732,452 | 16,880 |
(Public Google Play figures, recorded daily)
Google only updates install counts every few days, so the 41k shown on 10-29 is probably stale. Part of the "690k added this week" is catching up on that lag. A steadier signal is the rating count: it went up 11k over 8 days, or 1,000 to 2,000 per day. Using the benchmark of mature packages where ratings are about 2.3% of installs, it's probably adding around 40k to 80k installs per day (estimate).
On the charts, it 11-06 has ranked on the Top Free lists in 19 countries: Entertainment in the Philippines #3–5, best overall rank #4 (10-29); Entertainment in Hong Kong #5–10, Singapore #8–12, UAE #6–13; Thailand climbed from #125 to #7 in a week, Brazil from #79 to #15, Mexico #19–37. In the US and UK it only shows up beyond #60 in Entertainment. It's not on the Top Grossing chart at all.
One developer account, three identical packages
The developer is called "Skylark Scan", the same name as an Indian diagnostic clinic, with no connection to short dramas. Under this account there are three apps: Drama World (listed 07-30, 3.93M total installs), Drama World Pro and Drama World Max (both listed 09-16, Max at 230k total installs). Together they add up to about 4.89M installs.
Looking wider, four more sets follow the same structure:
| Developer account | Three-pack | Cumulative installs (11-06) | 7 new in the last day |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nutri Plaza | Halo Reels / Pro / Max | 12.3M / 8.2M / 5.68M | 1.44M / 820K / 760K |
| DramaAccess INC | BonusTV / Pro / Lite | 20.4M / 9.17M / 5.07M | 26k / 210k / 220k |
| medyem | Passion Drama / Pro | 4.81M / 7.38M | 65k / 48k |
| Conservative Authority | ShortFly / Pro / Max | 4.48M / 3.53M / 1.71M | 320k / 340k / 360k |
| Skylark Scan | Drama World / Pro / Max | 3.93M / 730K / 230K | 550k / 690k / 220k |
(Google Play,11-06)
Three clues tie them together. First, the same Facebook page, "PassionPro-Short", runs ads for these apps: in Nov 6 it had 442 live ads (258 three days earlier), with over 20,000 video ads run historically, landing on Drama World, Halo Reels, ShortFly, BonusTV, Passion Drama and others (Meta Ad Library, 11-06). The Spanish creative for Drama World reads "Una historia corta llena de sorpresas", a short story full of surprises. Second, the websites share one template: dramafuture.com, haloreels.net, reelshortfly.com and bonusdrama.com all use the title "X - Just watch it, it's X", with the Pro and Max versions at index-pro.html and index-max.html, and the page fonts are PingFang and Microsoft YaHei. Third, the developer account names get more absurd each time (supplements, a political organization, a clinic), and the contact emails are all "English first name + four digits" Gmail addresses that look bought.
The industry daily "免费短剧日报" (shortdramadata.com, reposted by amz123), read by people in China's short-drama overseas business, attributes Halo Reels and Passion Drama Pro to a Shanghai company called "锦榕柚". Drama World appeared in its Sep 30 issue's free short-drama overall chart at #21 with no owner listed. It shares an ad page and website template with Halo Reels, so it's most likely the same company or its partner (inference; the page could also belong to an agency).
These five account sets total about 88M installs, with about 7M added in the last 6 days.
Why bother with a "Pro"
The timeline makes it clear: in 2025 it first launched BonusTV and Passion Drama; in 2026, in late July, it swapped in three new shells at once (ShortFly 07-18, Halo Reels 07-24, Drama World 07-30); about a month later it added a Pro and a Max to each shell (Halo 08-18, ShortFly 08-24, Drama World 09-16).
Once a package has run for four to six weeks and growth starts to slow, it launches an identical-content new package to keep pushing. There are at least four benefits (inference):
- The new package can again earn the store's recommendations and category-chart placement given to new apps;
- People who uninstalled the old package can be pulled back in by the same ad;
- If one package gets banned by Google or an ad platform, the others are unaffected;
- Different packages can test different ad densities.
Pro's total installs are only a fifth of the original's, yet its 7-day new installs have overtaken it, showing the push has already shifted to the new package.
Where the money comes from, and why the math works
The math goes like this: buy users in the Philippines, Brazil, Mexico and Thailand on Facebook and Instagram, where installs are cheap, then show those users 1 to 4 ads per episode. As long as the ad revenue a user generates before finishing a drama exceeds what it cost to acquire them, you can keep spending.
The reviews spell out the model: "1 ads per 4 episode", "1 to 2 minutes of ads is ridiculous, switch to 10-second and 20-second ads and I'd give more stars", "watching one drama used 1GB of data". There's also a comparison: "Why can't you be like RushDrama…uninstalled", meaning a competitor with fewer ads is already taking users in the same market.
Timing is on its side too. About 80% of overseas short-drama apps launched in the first half of 2026 were free-with-ads, versus 63% the year before; in September, this model was the fastest-growing monetization type (Zhihu short-drama white paper, 36 Qi). The top five overseas short-drama download markets are Indonesia, India, Brazil, the US and the Philippines, which closely match the countries where Drama World Pro charts.
One more detail worth noticing: its rating has held above 4.7, but in its recent 185 reviews, most of the 132 5-star ones are one-word, like "good", "👍" or "m", while almost all of the 29 1-star reviews are specific and complain about ads. Rating count is about 2.3% of installs, versus 0.8% for FreeReels. It looks like the app prompts for a rating right after a user finishes a free episode (inference, not verified). Whatever the cause, it makes the store page convert very well.
Who it's competing with
| Competitors | Scale (Google Play, 11-06) | How it differs |
|---|---|---|
| FreeReels (Kunlun Tech) | 246M installs, +3.64M in 7 days | The free short-drama leaders have original content and exclusive titles |
| Melolo (ByteDance) | 147M, +2.9M in 7 days | Also focused on free short dramas in Southeast Asia, backed by ByteDance's content library |
| PineDrama(TikTok) | 84M, +3.01M in 7 days | Driven by TikTok traffic, promoting no ads |
| ReelShort / DramaBox / ShortMax | About 1.3–310M each | Pay-per-episode; DW's "free" positioning goes head-on against them |
| MixReels, HotMini, Rush Drama and others | tens of millions | Other Chinese teams' same-template shell matrices running the same playbook |
| AnyShort, DramaOL, ShortNext and others | Hundreds of thousands to a few million | A wave of small free short-drama packages in the same period |
The industry daily alone tracks 234 free short-drama products. This path is far from empty.
How many people know about it
Very little. Apart from that industry daily read by China-based operators, no media has covered it, nobody has mentioned it on X in nearly 30 days, TikTok searches turn up no related videos, and no one has publicly disclosed revenue. But "free short dramas + ad monetization is a window for new players" has been written up repeatedly by 36 Qi and in Zhihu's white paper, so the playbook itself is no secret.
If it were you
Verdict: don't copy the short dramas themselves, copy the distribution. Drama World Pro works because of its catalog, concentrated paid acquisition and a matrix of a dozen-plus packages, with no product differentiation. A small team has none of those three, and the category is also crowded with ByteDance, TikTok and Kunlun Skywork above it.
Who it suits: teams running a tool or content app that already monetize with ads (interstitials, rewarded video), that run Meta ads, and that have a category where the unit economics work and want to scale it.
Who it doesn't suit: indie developers without a content source or paid-acquisition budget. Without licensed content you take copyright risk; without buying installs you won't make the top of hundreds of similar apps; and apps that earn by showing lots of ads don't build reviews or keep users.
How to do it: take the "one backend, many packages" approach to your own category. When the main package runs for four to six weeks and growth slows, launch a new package with the same content but a different name and icon, to earn new-app treatment and category-chart placement again. Test different ad densities across packages, and shift budget to whichever recoups better. Note that Google Play has explicit policies against duplicate content, clone packages and disruptive ads, so keep developer accounts separate so one ban doesn't take everything down.
How to acquire users: run one ad page across multiple packages, share creative, and swap only the landing package name; prioritize the Philippines, Brazil, Mexico and Thailand, where installs are cheap and demand for free content is high; lead the creative with "free", but don't say "no ads" (its 1-star reviews already include people complaining "the ad says no ads, that's a lie").
How soon: there's no hard deadline, but the window depends on two things: when Google starts mass-removing clone packages with identical content, and when ad prices for this traffic drop. The earlier you test, the cheaper it is.
What would prove the read wrong: ① Drama World Pro or its sister packages get mass-delisted in the next month or two, meaning the rotate-the-package approach is closing; ② the live ads on the PassionPro-Short page (11-06 vs. 442 ads) are cut in half by year-end, meaning paid acquisition no longer recoups; ③ conversely, if it starts charting on Top Grossing in the Philippines or Brazil, in-app purchases can also make money, and the model is deeper than it looks and worth re-evaluating.

Why Drama World Pro is able to chart
Channel: Google Play | Developer account: Skylark Scan | Store launch: 2026-09-16 | Research date: 2026-11-06. Data source abbreviations: [GP library] = our googleplay library; [Meta library] = our metaads library; others linked.
Bottom line
Drama World Pro has no product-level differentiation. It is one sock-puppet package in the "reskin matrix" of a Chinese free short-drama (IAA, ad-monetized) publisher. The publisher uses at least 5 developer accounts with unrelated names (Skylark Scan / Nutri Plaza / Conservative Authority / medyem / DramaAccess INC). Each account lists three packages (base, Pro, and Max/Lite), all bought through the same Meta page, "PassionPro-Short", targeting cheap-ad markets like the Philippines, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. Each episode inserts 1–4 ads to recoup costs. It works because of the distribution playbook + the industry tailwind of free short dramas (IAA) over the past 2026 years, not because of the product itself.
1. Data: how much did it actually grow?
Drama World Pro daily data (GP library)
| Date | Total installs | Change in the period | Score | Rating increase |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10-29 | 41,331 | – | 5,805 | – |
| 10-31 | 227,497 | +186,166 | 8,159 | +927 |
| 11-03 | 547,696 | +320,199 | 12,763 | +1,641 |
| 11-05 | 628,209 | +80,513 | 15,793 | +1,006 |
| 11-06 | 732,452 | +104,243 | 16,880 | +1,087 |
- Caveat on metrics: Google updates install counts only every few days, so the figure for 10-29 (41,331) is likely stale. At that time the ratio of ratings to installs was 14%, clearly too high. So part of the "7-day 690k gain" is catch-up on old numbers. A steadier signal is rating count: it rose by 11,075 over 8 days, 1,000–2,000 per day. Using the ratio from mature packages in the same matrix (rating count ≈ 2.3% of installs), Pro is currently adding roughly 4–80k installs per day (estimate, unverified).
- AppGazers estimates 10-07 to 11-06 downloads of 49.8k–233k, with in-app purchase revenue under $5K (AppGazers). Almost all of the money comes from ads; in-app purchases ($7.99–$29.99, likely ad removal or membership) are a small share.
- Charts (GP library, free charts):
- Philippines: Entertainment chart #3–5, overall app chart #10-29 and #4, and #11-06 #16.
- Hong Kong Entertainment #5–10, Singapore #8–12, UAE #6–13.
- Thailand Entertainment climbed from #125 to #7 (10-29 to 11-04); Brazil climbed from #79 to #15; Mexico #19–37.
- US Entertainment #66–105, UK #72–179.
- 11-06 charted in 19 countries in total. It is not on any Top Grossing chart.
- Sibling packages under the same account (GP library): Drama World base version (listed 2026-07-30) has 3.93M cumulative installs, +547k in 7 days; Drama World Max (listed the same day as Pro, 09-16) has 230k cumulative, +219k in 7 days. Skylark Scan's total across the account is 4.89M.
II. Who is behind it: a reskin matrix
The clues come together one by one:
- The same advertiser page is buying paid acquisition for all of these apps [Meta Library]: Meta page "PassionPro-Short" (page_id 1156915574179436,4,700 likes, categorized as Media/news company).
- Live ad counts: 11-03 has 258 ads, 11-06 has 442. 20,301 ads have run in total. The earliest one we see is from 2026-08-01. 100% of creatives are video. Placements cover Facebook / Instagram / Messenger / Threads / Audience Network.
- Play package names the ads land on: com.watcher.drama.world (Drama World), the Halo Reels trio, ShortFly Pro, BonusTV Pro / Lite (com.wtv.winkitv.*), Passion Drama Pro, AnyShort, DramaOL.
- The copy leads with "free", e.g. DramaOL's "¿Por qué pagar cuando puedes verlo GRATIS?" (Why pay when you can watch it for FREE?). The Spanish creative pushing Drama World reads "Una historia corta llena de sorpresas" (a short story full of surprises).
- The websites use the same template:
- The titles of dramafuture.com, haloreels.net, reelshortfly.com, and bonusdrama.com all read "X - Just watch it, it's X".
- Pro / Max versions sit under index-pro.html / index-max.html.
- Page fonts specify PingFang SC / Microsoft YaHei (Chinese fonts), and the meta keywords are stuffed with competitor names (drama box, reel short, short max, dreame short...).
- The ShortFly and BonusTV site footers credit REVERIE STUDIO LLC, and BonusTV also lists the operating entity SHORT DRAMA CO., LIMITED (Hennessy Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong) (bonusdrama.com). ReelMax, Revo Shorts, TopDrama and others use the same footer.
- The developer accounts look bought:
- The account names have nothing to do with short dramas: Skylark Scan shares its name with an Indian clinic, "Skylark Scan and Diagnostics"; Nutri Plaza sounds like a supplement brand; Conservative Authority sounds like a political group.
- Contact emails are all "English first name + 4 digits" Gmail addresses, e.g. wendymancuso3137@, geraldsizemore3379@, amandaveronica338@.
- Attribution in industry tracking: a Chinese daily report on overseas free short-drama competitors (shortdramadata.com, reposted by amz123) attributes Halo Reels (Nutri Plaza shell), MixReels (Nathanwaltersdev shell), and Passion Drama Pro (medyem shell) to "Shanghai Jinrong Youxi Group". In the same ranking, Drama World is #21 on the free short-drama overall chart 9-30, listed only as "Skylark Scan" with no attribution (amz123 9.30 chart). Shanghai Jinrong Youxi Network Technology Co. has job postings on Zhaopin (Jiading District).
- Inferred (unverified): Drama World, Halo Reels and Passion Drama share one Meta ad page and one website template, so they are most likely also part of the Jinrong Youxi group or one of its partners.
Matrix scale (GP library, 11-06)
| Accounts (shells) | Three-pack | Total installs | 7 new in the last day |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nutri Plaza | Halo Reels / Pro / Max | 12.3M / 8.2M / 5.68M | 1.44M / 820K / 760K |
| DramaAccess INC | BonusTV / Pro / Lite | 20.4M / 9.17M / 5.07M | 26k / 210k / 220k |
| medyem | Passion Drama / Pro | 4.81M / 7.38M | 65k / 48k |
| Conservative Authority | ShortFly / Pro / Max | 4.48M / 3.53M / 1.71M | 320k / 340k / 360k |
| Skylark Scan | Drama World / Pro / Max | 3.93M / 730K / 230K | 550k / 690k / 220k |
Together these accounts have about 88M installs, adding roughly 6M over the last 7 days. AnyShort (3.41M) and DramaOL (4.12M) are also bought through the same page, but their website templates differ, so attribution is undetermined.
The timeline shows a clear playbook:
- 2025-03 BonusTV launched first, then 2025-12 Passion Drama.
- 2026-06-04/05 BonusTV Pro / Lite and Passion Drama Pro launched together.
- From late July, new shells rolled out: ShortFly 07-18, Halo Reels 07-24, Drama World 07-30.
- About a month later, each shell got a Pro / Max version: Halo 08-18, ShortFly 08-24, Drama World 09-16.
When one package's growth slows, they launch a new package with the same content to push again. Drama World Pro is the "second wave" of Drama World.
3. Why it took off
- Where the money comes from: ad monetization (IAA). Review samples repeatedly mention "1–4 ads per episode", "ads 1–2 minutes long, longer than the episode", and "clicking close takes you to Google Play to install a promoted app" [GP library reviews, 10-25 to 11-04]. AppGazers estimates less than $5K in in-app purchase revenue over 30 days, so ad revenue (ad networks' eCPM) is the main source. The publisher buys users cheaply on Meta in the Philippines, Latin America and Southeast Asia, then earns the money back through dense rewarded and interstitial ads. As long as ad revenue per viewer beats the cost of acquiring that viewer, the model works.
- Timing: the free short-drama (IAA) wave is taking off in 2026.
- In the first half of 2026, nearly 80% of newly launched overseas short-drama apps were IAA, versus 63.2% a year earlier. FreeReels had 197M downloads in half a year and topped the download charts (Zhihu / Short Drama Self-Study Room white paper).
- In September 2026, IAA was the fastest-growing monetization type, with paid-acquisition product count up 8% month over month. The top five overseas short-drama download markets are Indonesia, India, Brazil, the US and the Philippines (36 Qi).
- The countries where Drama World Pro charts (the Philippines, Brazil, Mexico, Thailand, Indonesia) match this distribution closely.
- AI-generated short dramas are driving down content costs, so small teams can also build "fully free" products.
- Positioning: "free, no membership", directly against pay-per-episode products like ReelShort and DramaBox. Users come for "no payment": a 5-star review says "you can watch the whole series just watching a little ads, unlike other apps that have a limit", while a 1-star review says "ad said no ads required, which is a lie". So the ad creative promises free access.
- Matrix: using fresh packages to get the "new app" treatment. Same content, new package name and icon:
- The new package can again earn the store's recommendations and category-chart placement given to new apps;
- People who already uninstalled an old package can be pulled back in by the same creative;
- If one package is banned by Google or the ad platform, it doesn't drag the others down.
- Different packages can test different ad densities.
Pro's cumulative installs are only a fraction of the base version's, but its new installs in 1/5,7 days beat the base version (690k vs 550k), which fits "push shifted to the new package."
- Rating held steady at 4.7–4.8, but the reviews are clearly polarized. In a recent sample of 185 reviews, 132 are 5-star, mostly single words like "good", "👍", "m"; 29 are 1-star, nearly all specific complaints about ads [GP library]. The ratio of ratings to installs is around 2.3%, higher than FreeReels' 0.8%. It looks like a rating prompt fires right after users finish a free episode (review solicitation). Unverified, but it makes the store page convert well.

| Melolo (ByteDance / POLIGON) | Android+iOS | 2024-11 | 147M, +2.9M in 7 days | Also a free short-drama app aimed at Southeast Asia, with ByteDance's content library. |
| ReelShort / DramaBox / ShortMax (paid short dramas) | Android+iOS | 2022–2023 | About 1.3–310M each | Pay-per-episode and subscriptions. DW Pro goes head-on against them with "free." |
| The Halo Reels trio (same matrix, Nutri Plaza) | Android | 2026-07/08 | 26.2M combined, +7M in 3.02 days | Same content, templates, and ad accounts. This is the best-performing set in this matrix right now. |
| MixReels (Jinrongyou family, Nathanwaltersdev shell) | Android | 2026-07 | 14M, 7 days +740k | Another shell from the same company |
| HotMini (Weiguang Jumeng, Tasawq shell) | Android | 2025-05 | 55.9M | Another Chinese team's IAA short-drama shell matrix, same playbook |
| Romance Reels / Rush Drama (Hainan Jiacheng, Brazil / Philippines IAA matrix) | Android | 2026 | Unverified (listed as an IAA matrix in industry rankings) | Same market, same model. One user in the reviews compared DW Pro's ads unfavorably to RushDrama's, which show fewer. |
| AnyShort / DramaOL / ShortNext / AuraReel, etc. | Android | 2026-06 to 09 | 770k–4.12M | Many similar free short-drama small apps in the same period. The differences are only the shell and the ad spend. |
| Full-episode short-drama channels on YouTube | Big-company features | Ongoing | – | Completely free, no app install required. DW Pro's advantage is continuous in-app playback and recommendations. |
In short: this track is already crowded. shortdramadata's "free short-drama daily" alone tracks 234 free / IAA products.
5. Growth tactics (evidence)
| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Paid Meta ads (FB / IG / Audience Network) | [Meta Library] PassionPro-Short homepage 11-06 has 442 live ads and 20,301 historical ads. Landing pages include com.watcher.drama.world (4 Spanish-language video ads, 10-30 to 11-02). In the sample we pulled, no ad sent users straight to .pro, but the same homepage has run paid ads for the Pro / Max apps in the same matrix. | Yes (at the page level); no direct view of ads landing on the Pro package itself |
| Package matrix / sock-puppet accounts | 5 shell accounts, 2–3 packages each, sharing website templates and ad pages | Yes |
| Organic traffic from small-country store charts | Top 15 in the entertainment charts of the Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, UAE, and Thailand | Yes |
| Cross-promotion within apps | Users report that tapping ads jumps them to Google Play to install other apps. Unclear whether this is cross-promoting sister apps. | No |
| Prompted reviews | Rating of 4.7, yet many written reviews are 1-star, and most 5-star reviews are a single word | No (inferred) |
| Stuffing competitor keywords into the website for SEO | dramafuture.com's meta keywords include "drama box," "reel short," and others | Yes, but the effect is small |
| TikTok / creators / X / press | Searching TikTok for "Drama World Pro app" returns no related videos; x-radar shows 30 posts in 0 days; no media coverage | None found |
Six: How many people know about it
- Only in small circles: industry insiders following Chinese short-drama overseas expansion see Drama World listed in shortdramadata / amz123's "free short-drama daily" (rank 21 in 9-30). Beyond that, there is no media coverage, 0 posts on X, and no one has publicly disclosed revenue (TrustMRR etc. have nothing either).
- The sector itself has been written about a lot: 36 and Zhihu white papers have repeatedly covered FreeReels, Melolo, and PineDrama, and have also written that "IAA is a window for new entrants," so the playbook is hardly a secret.
VII. Differentiation
At the product level there is basically no differentiation. Same short-drama content, same "homepage recommendations → pick a show → watch" flow, and generic template descriptions. The only differences from sibling packages are the name, icon, and package ID. Two things actually set it apart: first, its "free" positioning against paid short-drama apps; second, the operator's distribution machine, meaning many shells and packages with concentrated Meta paid acquisition, plus high ad density to recover acquisition costs. Those two things are why it broke out. But neither belongs to Drama World Pro specifically. Swap the package name and it would run the same way. Among free short-drama apps, its ad density is far higher than FreeReels' or PineDrama's. That is both why it can earn back its acquisition spend and the main source of its bad reviews.
8. What to take from it
- The IAA-plus-low-ARPU math: take content and genres already validated by paid short-drama apps, acquire users cheaply in countries where ad inventory is inexpensive (Philippines, Brazil, Mexico, Thailand) using "free" creatives, then recoup through interstitial and rewarded video.
- Matrix cadence: after the base version runs for 4–6 weeks, launch a new Pro / Max package to take over, regaining the new-app treatment and chart positions, while spreading ban risk.
- One ad account runs ads for several packages at once, with shared creatives and only the landing package ID swapped.
- Risks: Google Play has policies against "duplicate content / sock-puppet packages" and "disruptive ads," and ad platforms ban violating traffic. How long this model lasts depends on bans and ad rates; the bad reviews center on the ad volume.
IX. Uncertainties
- Whether Drama World is really part of the Jinrongyou group: so far the only evidence is indirect, a shared Meta page and website template. Industry rankings don't attribute it, and the relationship between REVERIE STUDIO / SHORT DRAMA CO. and Jinrongyou is unclear. PassionPro-Short may also be an agency.
- Pro's real daily installs: store install counts update in steps, so the 10-29 baseline may be low.
- Ad revenue, acquisition spend, and ROI: no data for any of them.
- Content sourcing (licensed Chinese short dramas with dubbing, AI-generated shorts, or pirated re-uploads): not verified.
- Whether it advertises on TikTok or Google: the TikTok ad library only covers Europe, and the Google ad library couldn't be checked this time (server connection dropped).
