> Not a product breakout. Vietnamese publisher Lutech mass-published reskinned apps from a dozen developer accounts in a category already dominated by 10M+ hits. This one rode several rounds of October paid acquisition. After spend stopped, it was left with about 3 thousand installs a day.

# Small account with 330k installs: Emoji Battery and ten battery packs from a Vietnamese publisher

**What it is** An Android personalization app: it swaps the status bar battery icon for emoji and animated stickers, plus status bar themes, a screen pet, and notch effects, monetized with ads and in-app purchases.

**Why it took off** The product itself didn't take off. The Vietnamese publisher Lutech ran a batch of reskinned packs across a dozen-plus developer accounts in a category already dominated by tens-of-millions hits. This pack got a few rounds of October paid acquisition, and after the spending stopped it was down to about 3k installs a day.

**C** **How you could play it** Don't build another emoji battery. Use the category's standard features, focus on themes big companies haven't covered (sports teams, athletes, local holidays, K-pop), buy installs cheaply in low-cost countries to push into personalization chart rankings, and show fewer interstitials.

C grade: real demand, and the leaders are still growing, but the category is crowded with a Vietnamese publisher's multi-account reskin pipeline, and this pack is one of the weaker followers. You can learn the playbook, but following with a single pack will most likely not win installs. Few people know about it yet

Emoji Battery: Status Bar DIY, launched in September, got only 64 installs in its first three weeks. A few concentrated October campaigns pushed it to 335k, and it fell back when the pushing stopped. It's not a new product. It's one of ten or so packs the Vietnamese publisher Lutech spread across the same category, and one of the less successful ones. What's worth watching is the category, and how this company places its bets.

### A person who wanted the Steelers status bar

In October 18, a US user named Darin Katz left a review on Google Play: "Trying to get the Steelers status bar." 8 people marked it helpful, making it the top review on the app's page. The next one down is from Nigerian user Nnabuike Destiny, dated October 10: "I think it is good and great and it is really cute 🥰🥰🥰🥰"

That is almost all the "user voice" this app has. It has 5,918 ratings averaging 4.39 stars, but only a dozen or so written reviews (Google Play, 11-06). Most people just tapped a star in the rating prompt inside the app.

The Steelers review does capture one thing about this category: people don't want a battery icon. They want the very top of their phone to be theirs. Team, anime, car, cartoon, it doesn't matter what, as long as it's theirs.

### What it is

A personalization app that can only exist on Android. It uses Android's accessibility service to draw its own layer over the system status bar: the battery icon becomes an emoji or animated sticker, signal, hotspot, and charging icons get recolored and resized, the status bar background can be your own photo, a little pet walks across the screen (the store page calls it "Shimeji Pet"), and there are notch effects. There's also "Battery Troll," which shows a fake battery number as a prank, and the store page specifically notes "visual effect only, does not affect the real battery."

You can't do this on iPhone. iOS doesn't let third-party apps touch the status bar, so you can only imitate it with widgets or Shortcuts. A TikTok tutorial from @iphonnation saying "emoji battery is a cool iPhone feature" has 800k views. So this is a business unique to Android.

Money comes from two sources: ads, plus in-app purchases (Play prices one at $4.99–19.99, raised in early November from $2.99–14.99). A third-party estimate puts monthly revenue under $5 thousand (AppGazers, model-based, conservative).

### How it grew

| Timeline | Daily new installs |
|---|---|
| 9-11 to 10-01 | 64 total over three weeks |
| 10-08 | About 10k |
| 10-13 | About 36.5k |
| 10-14 to 10-16 | 13k–18k |
| 10-21 | About 71k |
| 10-22 to 10-25 | 20k–30k |
| After 10-29 | About 3k |

(October numbers are AppstoreSpy estimates; November Google Play installs, updated every two to three days: 10-31 +12,194, 11-03 +9,421, 11-05 +5,847)

An app that barely gets installs for three weeks, then one day jumps by 70,000, and a few days later falls back. That's not word of mouth, it's paid acquisition: get it approved and the store page built first, then run several concentrated campaigns that push it up the personalization free charts in several countries, and see how much organic traffic holds once spending stops. (Inferred: it doesn't match public ad library entries on Meta, Google, or TikTok directly, so from the outside we can't see who ran the spend or how much.) 11-06 It hit the personalization free chart in 7 countries, best ranked #49 in South Africa, #72 in the US, #135 in Mexico, and never made the overall or Top Grossing charts.

Ratings were accumulated the same way. 10-29 It has 5,875 ratings, and afterward gains only 3 to 10 per day. The ratings bunch up in the campaign weeks, with the same shape as the install curve.

### Who's behind it: one company, more than a dozen developer accounts

The developer on the store page is Lutech Studio, with a contact address at "Clinical Supplies LLC" in Sheridan, Wyoming. That's a generic address for a US registered agent, where many small overseas companies are listed. The privacy policy on the developer website klukaskplay.dev says "Lutech Studio is an App development and App publisher company." Tracing back through the website, email, and ad accounts leads to Lutech Digital in Vietnam (lutech.vn, which recruits Android developers in Hanoi and Da Nang), which describes itself as "investing in, developing, and publishing mobile apps."

Roughly 50 apps point back to Lutech, spread across more than a dozen developer accounts including Lutech Studio, Lutech Mosaic, ZAppsolution, Tools for Everyday, SHINK COMPANY, and TOMODEV JSC, each using a different Gmail and domain. The emoji battery apps alone look like this:

| App | Developer account | Launched | Install (Google Play, 11-06) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Emoji Battery Icon Customize | ZAppsolution | 2026-03 | 12.7M, 7 days +400k, #1 in Spain's category |
| Emoji Battery & Shimeji Pets | ZAppsolution | 2026-07 | 3.56M |
| Emoji Battery & Shimeji Pet | Tools for Everyday | 2026-06 | 3.39M |
| Emoji Battery Widget & Icons | Tools for Everyday | 2026-06 | 2.89M |
| Emoji Battery: Icons & Pets | SHINK COMPANY | 2026-08 | 2.04M |
| Battery Emoji Buddies | STARVIA | 2026-09-10 | 780k, +188k in 7 days |
| **Emoji Battery: Status Bar DIY** | Lutech Studio | 2026-09-11 | 335k, +27k in 7 days |
| Emoji Battery Friends | Growly | 2026-10 | 24k |

Together that's about 25M installs. The link between STARVIA, Growly, and Lutech in this group comes from TikTok ads: an advertiser registered in Vietnam as "LUTECH SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGY COMPANY LIMITED" started running football-themed ads for Battery Emoji Buddies in Europe in October 20, with the copy "Turn every charge into a goal! Decorate your battery icon…" (TikTok European ad library; whether this is their own account or they're running it for someone else is unverified).

The most telling rows in this table are 6 and 7: two packs launched a day apart with nearly identical features, one gaining 188k a week and the other 27k. That's the company's playbook: reskin the same code, change the name and developer account, ship several at once, spend a little on each, add money to the ones that run, and let the rest live on organic traffic. The one we're looking at is the one that didn't get more money.

### Who it's competing with

Everyone. More than twenty Play apps with "emoji battery" in the title exist, mostly from small Vietnamese and Southeast Asian studios, launched between 2026 and October 6:

- The category leader, Emoji Battery Icon Customize (New Widget Co., not part of the Lutech group, 2026-04): 15.6M installs, +376k in a week.

- HoangSi's Emoji Battery: Status Bar: 3.9M; TRUNGHIEUCOM's Emoji Battery: Status Bar Icon: 1.42M.

- ImoDevel's "Emoji Battery: DIY Status Bar" (830k) and randa's "Emoji Battery: Status Bar DIY" (launched 9-25, 46k), the latter sharing this app's exact name.

- Adjacent categories from the last generation: charging animations (Niam 29.6M, Firehawk 17.1M), Super Status Bar (5.18M, 2020), Dynamic Island dynamicSpot (14.7M, 2022).

This category isn't new either. The TikTok series "Change your phone battery icon with Emoji battery app" from @gpsarea68 started in December 2024 years ago, with single videos at 4.3M and 8.69M views. The captions end with codes like "(T3en_v11)" and "E2.2", the kind of version tags you see when a publisher is A/B testing creatives. @batteryicon 2025-12-30's "Personalize your phone vibe with kawaii battery icons in new year!" has 3.63M views. Demand was proven at the end of 2024, two tens-of-millions hits appeared in spring 2026, and then a wave of copycats poured in. This app is one of the last of that wave.

### Who the users are and what they care about

Judging by reviews and chart countries, the core users are teens and young women in South Africa, Mexico, Argentina, Nigeria and Spain. Reviews on the group's top pack in Spain make it clear: "me gusta muchísimo estos muñequitos lindos para mí batería" (I love these cute little figures on my battery), "Comprendí el Messi y me gustó" (I got the Messi one and liked it), "le doy 5 estrellitas… lo único que no me gusta es el que el solcito, yo quiero nomás de Halloween" (five stars, I just don't like the little sun, I only want the Halloween ones).

Almost all the negative reviews are about one thing: ads. "Demasiada publicidad, no he podido ni usarla. La he desinstalado sin probarla" (Too many ads, I couldn't even use it. I uninstalled it without trying), "mucha publicidad" (too much advertising).

Translated into product requirements, there are two: lots of assets, and assets tied to the moment (teams, players, holidays, anime); and don't show so many ads that users uninstall before they've even applied an icon.

### If it were you

**C. The category is learnable, but copying it one-for-one isn't worth it.** The demand is real, and the top pack still gains hundreds of thousands a week. But this is home turf for Vietnamese publishers, who push ten packs at once and switch accounts when one stops working. A newcomer chasing it with a single pack will most likely end up as row 7 in this table.

**Who it suits** : teams already making Android utility / personalization apps, with AdMob monetization and low-price-tier acquisition experience, who can ship a few reskinned packs a month. For you, this is a proven category that's still growing, and you could place a second bet.

**Who it doesn't suit** : anyone who hasn't run paid acquisition and is counting on organic store search to take off; anyone aiming for high retention and subscription revenue; anyone unwilling to touch accessibility-permission features, which Play review watches closely.

**How to do it** : don't make "another emoji battery." Make the asset slice the big players haven't gotten to. The Steelers fan review is the clue: NFL, NBA, Premier League and La Liga teams, local stars, cricket (India, Pakistan), K-pop fan colors, local holidays. Build the features on the category's standard set (battery, status bar, pets, notch), have each app serve one audience, and make the title and screenshots talk only about that audience. Unlock assets with rewarded video, and use few interstitials.

**How to get users** : launch and let it sit for two to three weeks while you get the store page and rating prompt right. Then run Google App Campaigns or TikTok, concentrated for a few days in cheap countries like South Africa, Mexico, the Philippines and Nigeria, to push into the top 50 of the personalization category, and see whether organic installs can hold after that. Creatives should be "before and after" shots of the top of the phone screen; the viral videos in this category all use that one shot.

**When to go before the moment** : follow seasons and holidays. Launch football-themed packs ahead of major tournaments and league climaxes, and holiday-themed packs two to three weeks early. The category itself is already crowded, so the window is in the theme, not the category.

**What would mean you read it wrong** : (1) In your first paid round, if daily organic installs drop to a few hundred or less after you stop spending, one pack only supports one round of paid acquisition in this category, and the numbers won't work. (2) If Play tightens review of accessibility permissions, apps like this start getting pulled in batches. (3) The reverse: if a theme pack (say, one team) climbs into the top 50 in high-CPM countries like the US or UK and people are buying in-app purchases, the theme can make money, and this tier is worth scaling up.

Where users come from

- Inferred **paid acquisition (likely Google App Campaigns / ad networks)** : the install curve comes in step-like bursts: 64 installs in the first three weeks after launch, then +10k on 10-08, +36.5k on 10-13, and +71k on 10-21, with daily installs falling back to 3k after 10-26. The ad libraries show no match for this app.

- **Confirmed** **Group sock-puppet matrix / keyword spreading** : lutech.vn's app-ads.txt and Lutech-family domains cover a dozen-plus developer accounts and about 50 apps, at least 9 of which are emoji battery packs

- Inferred **Group TikTok ads** : per the tiktokads library, LUTECH SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGY COMPANY LIMITED (Vietnam) ran football-themed creatives for sibling pack Battery Emoji Buddies starting 10-20; this pack doesn't show up

- **Confirmed** **Store search / category chart** : it reached the PERSONALIZATION free chart in 7 countries including the US, South Africa and Mexico (US #72, South Africa #49). Titles combine emoji battery + status bar + DIY keywords

- Inferred **In-app rating prompt** : 5,918 ratings, but only 12 written reviews; the ratings accumulated during the peak spend period

## Why Emoji Battery: Status Bar DIY (com.widgetcustomize.emojibattery) got traction

> Channel: Google Play · Developer account Lutech Studio (one of the sock puppets under Lutech Digital in Vietnam) · Store launch 2026-09-11 · Research date 2026-11-06

### Bottom line

This isn't an app that "took off" on its own product merits. Vietnamese publisher Lutech Digital used a small-account matrix to spread yet another copycat pack across an already validated, extremely crowded Android category (emoji battery / status bar customization). Its 335k installs came from a few short acquisition bursts in October, each followed by a fall-off. The same group has at least 8–9 other packs in the category, and the biggest one (ZAppsolution's Emoji Battery Icon Customize) has 12.7M installs and ranks #1 on the category's free chart. Within the group, this pack is the small one.

### 1. Data profile

| Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Total installs | 335,330(11-06) | Google Play library app_profile |
| New in the last 7 days | 27,462 | Same as above |
| Rating count / rating | 5,918 / 4.39; only 12 written reviews | googleplay app_snap |
| Charts | Only on the PERSONALIZATION category free chart: 11-06 South Africa #49, US #72, Mexico #135 and 7 other countries; never on the overall or Top Grossing charts | googleplay chart_rank |
| Monetization | Ads plus in-app purchases; IAP range went from $2.99–14.99 up to $4.99–19.99 (11-05 version 3.0.0) | app_snap |
| Revenue estimate | AppGazers estimates monthly revenue under $5K, October downloads 18k–89k (model estimate, on the conservative side) | appgazers.com/reports/developers/android-Lutech+Studio |

#### Install curve (estimated by AppstoreSpy, googleplay database app_day_ext)

- Listed on 09-11, and by 10-01 it had only 64 installs, meaning it wasn't promoted at all in the first three weeks.

- Pushed starting 10-05: on 10-08 +10k in a day, 10-13 +36.5k, 10-14 to 10-16 1.3–18k a day, **10-21 +71k in a day** , 10-22 to 10-25 2–30k a day.

- After 10-26 it dropped quickly, settling at about 10-29 thousand a day from 11-05 to 3 (our own daily observations: 10-31 +12,194, 11-03 +9,421, 11-05 +5,847, each a two-day total).

- Three or four stepped bursts (not smooth organic growth), collapsing when spend stops: a classic paid-acquisition shape. The rating count already stood at 10-29 by 5,875, after which it grew only 3–10 a day, which suggests ratings were gathered mainly through the in-app prompt during peak spend, not earned organically.

### 2. Who's behind it: Lutech Digital's sock-puppet matrix

- The privacy policy on the developer site klukaskplay.dev states "Lutech Studio is an App development and App publisher company"; Klukas Kplay is itself a developer name (androidrank). Lutech Digital (lutech.vn, Vietnam, recruiting Android developers in Hanoi and Da Nang) describes itself as "investing in, developing and publishing mobile apps."

- In the googleplay library, about 50 apps have developer sites, emails or app-ads.txt pointing to lutech.vn or Lutech-family domains. They're scattered across a dozen-plus developer accounts including Lutech Studio, Lutech Mosaic, Lutech Tools, BG.Studio, TextSoft.Studio, ZAppsolution, Tools for Everyday - AI Tasks, SHINK COMPANY, TOMODEV JSC, JoyNest Studio and TNGlobalSolution, each with a different Gmail and .dev domain.

- In the TikTok ad library, the advertiser LUTECH SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGY COMPANY LIMITED (registered in Vietnam) runs ads for apps from the STARVIA, Growly and OMG! Bros account group, including the emoji battery peer Battery Emoji Buddies (starting 10-20, copy "Turn every charge into a goal! Decorate your battery icon…", single-ad reach 10k–100k). That suggests the Growly/Starvia group also has an advertising relationship with Lutech (whether they own it or run it on contract is unverified).

#### Lutech-family emoji battery packs (googleplay library, 11-06)

| Emoji Battery Icon & Pets(com.asianmobile.battery.statusbar) | TBS Solution (package-name prefix matches BG.Studio on asianmobile) | 2026-10-14 | 6,809 | — |

About 25.6M installs combined. This pack ranks 7 among them, and its growth is clearly slower than its siblings launched the same day (Battery Emoji Buddies gained +7k in the last 188 days, this one +27k). The playbook: the same feature set (emoji battery + status bar + notch / Dynamic Island + on-screen pets + the "Battery Troll" prank) reskinned, re-accounted and re-keyworded, shipped in bulk. Each pack gets a little spend; the ones that work get more budget, and the ones that don't sit and live on organic installs.

### 3. Competitors (all on Google Play)

This category isn't short on competitors. The package itself is a copycat. On Google Play, titles containing "emoji battery" number 26, plus a long tail of charging animations, Dynamic Island, and status bar apps:

- **Emoji Battery Icon Customize** (New Widget Co., govo.tech, 2026-04-22): 15.6M installs, +7k over the last 376 days. One of the category leaders, not part of the Lutech family.

- **Emoji Battery Icon Customize** (ZAppsolution, Lutech family, 2026-03-25): 12.7M installs, 479k ratings, #1 on the category chart.

- **Emoji Battery: Status Bar** (HoangSi, 2026-06-09): 3.9M installs.

- **Emoji Battery: Status Bar Icon** (TRUNGHIEUCOM, 2026-08-14): 1.42M installs, +7k over the last 143 days, #5 in the Brazil category chart.

- **Emoji Battery: DIY Status Bar** (ImoDevel, 2026-08-10): 830k installs, +7k over the last 110 days. The name is nearly identical to this package's.

- **Emoji Battery: Status Bar DIY** (randa, 2026-09-25): 46k installs. It has the **same name** as this package and launched two weeks later.

- **Themix: Emoji Battery Widget** (ScreenSpark), Odysseus, Ahc Foundation, Maxlabs, 368 Phuc Minh and a dozen more small Vietnamese / Southeast Asian studios with similar apps, most of which launched in 2026 6–October.

- Older adjacent categories: Battery Charging Animation (Niam 29.6M, Firehawk 17.1M), Super Status Bar (Tom Bayley, 5.18M, 2020), dynamicSpot Dynamic Island (Jawomo, 14.7M, 2022).

- On iOS you can't truly restyle the battery icon in the status bar (the system doesn't allow it). You only get widgets or Shortcuts-style workarounds. Tutorials for those on TikTok, such as @iphonnation, have tens of millions of views. This category is Android-only, using accessibility or overlay permissions to layer something over the status bar.

Category timeline: emoji battery apps existed on Android by at least late 2024 (TikTok @gpsarea68 2024-12, 2025-02's promo videos with 5.94M and 8.69M views). In 2026, between 3 and April, two packages from ZAppsolution and New Widget Co. reached tens of millions of installs. Then between 6 and October a wave of copycats flooded in, and this package belongs to that last wave.

### 4. Growth tactics

| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Paid acquisition (presumably Google App Campaigns / ad networks) | The install curve is a few step-spikes of tens of thousands a day at 10-08, 10-13 and 10-21, then it falls back to 3K a day after 10-26; three weeks after launch it has only 64 installs | No (inferred from format). This package doesn't match any records in the Meta, Google, or TikTok ad libraries. The libraries only track products on their watch lists, so not finding it doesn't mean it wasn't advertised. |
| Group sock-puppet network / keyword flooding | At least 9 similar packages from the same group, all named with combinations of "Emoji Battery + status bar / pet / DIY". | Yes |
| Group TikTok campaigns | LUTECH SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGY ran football-themed creatives on TikTok (Europe) for its sister package Battery Emoji Buddies. | Yes (a sister package, not this one) |
| Store search (emoji battery / status bar keywords) | It reached the free charts in 7 countries and gets some organic search traffic. The title combines DIY and Status Bar keywords. | Partial |
| In-app rating prompts | Of 5,918 ratings, only 12 are text reviews. Ratings are concentrated around the paid push periods. | Inferred |
| Creators / content | On TikTok, "emoji battery" has many creator and brand videos (such as @batteryicon with 900k views and @adhdancemom with 11-05), but none name this package. | No |

How it makes money: ads (interstitials / rewarded videos that unlock themes) plus in-app purchases at $4.99–19.99, most likely membership or ad removal. The core audience is teenagers, and cheap installs come from countries like South Africa, Mexico, and Argentina, so ads are what pay back acquisition. AppGazers estimates the package's monthly revenue at under $5K.

### 5. Differentiation

Almost nothing. The feature list (emoji batteries, status bar themes, animated stickers, screen pets, notch effects, Battery Troll pranks) matches the sister packages and a dozen rivals. Even the names collide (ImoDevel's "Emoji Battery: DIY Status Bar" and randa's "Emoji Battery: Status Bar DIY"). The real difference is in distribution. Lutech has a ready reskinning pipeline, a dozen developer accounts, a paid acquisition team, and a monetization system, so it can make several cheap bets in a category that's already been validated. This package got 330k installs because of that distribution machine, not because of the product.

### 6. How visible it is

- No media coverage, no public revenue figures, and nobody discussing it on X.

- The category itself isn't obscure, though. A dozen Vietnamese and Southeast Asian publishers are competing for it, and the top individual packages have tens of millions of installs. "Nobody knows this app" doesn't mean nobody is working this opportunity.

### 7. What to borrow

- The playbook: find a visual trick that only works on Android, not iOS (status bar, Dynamic Island, charging animation). Use TikTok to check demand first, then reskin one codebase into multiple packages across multiple accounts that flood keywords. Run a small budget in each market, and scale whatever works.

- Cold-start rhythm: after launch, wait about three weeks (review, collect ratings, do ASO). Then run a few concentrated paid pulses to push it onto the category charts, pause, and see whether organic traffic holds.

- Theme reskins: football (World Cup year), anime, cars, cartoons. Use the creative theme to target different audiences.

### 8. Still unclear

- Which acquisition channels were used and how much was spent. The ad libraries don't match this package directly.

- Whether Growly / STARVIA / OMG! Bros are Lutech's own products or client apps Lutech runs ads for.

- 11-04 rating distribution shifted suddenly (4-star went from 1,039 to 823, and 5-star from 3,805 to 4,010). Was that a Google recalculation or deleted or fake reviews? Not verified.

- Actual revenue: only AppGazers' modeled estimate exists.
