Xelon: Reels Browser · Advergile

A browser that claims it blocks ads but pops up an ad every minute: 980k installs in seven weeks

What it is An Android browser with a built-in proxy that stays on from the moment you open it. Nominally it's for short-video browsing, but in countries that block adult sites it's used to watch adult video.

Why it took off Government blocks in countries like Indonesia and India created real demand. It used suggestive screenshots to drive clicks and reached #30 on Indonesia's Tools Top Free chart. Two stepped surges look like paid acquisition.

DHow you could follow it Don't copy the product. The two things worth learning are: find demand created by policy on emerging-market tools charts, and fill the gap in this category, where ads are rampant, with a compliant, low-ad tool.

Grade D: the money comes from getting around national blocks, adult-adjacent positioning and Google Play policy loopholes, and it could be pulled from the store all at once. Templated portfolio teams have already put out several of these within a month, and a small team has neither accounts to burn nor differentiation. Barely known

Xelon: Reels Browser calls itself a "browser made for short videos" on Google Play. What users in Indonesia and India actually use it for is spelled out in the review section: the proxy that's on by default helps them get around local blocks and open adult video sites. It launched in mid-September, and by Nov 6 it had an estimated 980k installs and broke into Indonesia's Tools Top Free at #30. It rode a template that several other apps have already proven and that is now being copied in bulk. The product itself has nothing new. Below, I explain how it got going, where the money comes from, and why we don't recommend following it.

The two most-liked reviews

On Nov 6 I checked its Google Play reviews in the Indonesia and India stores. The most-liked one is in English: "Ads come every 1 minute", with 1,485 likes. The other is in Indonesian: "apk isinya bokep jir", with 148 likes. Roughly translated, it means "this app is full of porn." The India store also has a Bengali review that just says "সেক্স" (sex), with 123 likes.

These two reviews explain where the money comes from and where the users come from. Together they basically cover the whole app.

What it is

The store page is tidy and reads like any other app: vertical "reel mode," built-in Ad-guard to block ads and trackers, a built-in proxy so you "don't need a separate VPN," and a dark interface. The rating is Teen, and the tag reads "Unrestricted Internet." The developer is Advergile, a small company registered 2023 years ago in Paphos, Cyprus.

The official site xelon.pages.dev is more explicit: the proxy "is already on the moment you open the app," with no server to pick; "when a site won't load, Xelon automatically routes around it"; incognito mode with no logs; and video downloads with a built-in player.

Every store screenshot is an AI-generated woman in a sports bra. The description is neutral, and the screenshots do the suggesting. That's the standard approach for apps like this.

Put it together and its real use is obvious: India, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia have all blocked porn sites at the national level. The built-in proxy gets around the block, "reels" means vertical short-video scrolling, and "Ad-guard" blocks the pop-up ads that adult sites serve. The same template's other app, Puer, has a review asking "why now it doesn't play NSFW content?" The user's motive for installing is plain from that question.

How it grew

DateCumulative installs (third-party estimate)What happened
9-160Launched
10-09About 15kThree-plus weeks since launch, lukewarm
10-13About 122kJust over 100k in two days
10-21—about +140k a day
10-27About 650k
11-06About 980k+328k in the last 7 days

Data from Google Play installs and AppstoreSpy estimates; the store page's own bracket is "500k+".

The curve climbs in steps, not a slow build. Ratings went from 10-29 on 1,647 to 11-06 on 2,242, about +54 to 92 a day, but ratings are only 0.23% of installs, which is low. Two possibilities: many people install, scroll, and never come back to rate; or part of the volume is bought (inferred).

It has only charted in two countries: the Indonesia Tools Top Free chart took it from #48 on 10-29 to #27 on 11-04, and 11-06 at #30; on the India chart of the same category it fell from #35 to #116. It has never charted in any grossing chart and has no in-app purchases.

Where users come from

Store search and Tools charts are most likely the main channel (inferred). Users search terms like "video browser", "proxy browser", "browser anti blokir" (Indonesian for anti-block browser). On 11-06, it ranked #30 on the Indonesia Tools chart, same-template Puer #34, and another proxy browser, Browser Proxy, #36 after 2026, the three bunched together. Ranking in the top 30 is itself exposure, and suggestive screenshots push the click-through rate higher.

The source of the two surges is unclear. Neither the Oct 13 nor the Oct 21 jump shows up in the public Meta or Google ad libraries. Adult-oriented traffic is usually bought from adult ad networks or swapped with other grey apps, and none of that appears in public ad libraries. The most we can say is "suspected paid acquisition, unverified."

Hindi-language tutorials from small YouTubers exist, but the volume is tiny. A channel called Technical Akbar 07 posted "Xelon Browser App Kaise Use Kare" (how to use the Xelon browser), and it had 517 views in early November. The same kind of channel has made identical tutorials for Proxy Browser and Neuro Browser. This is an old trick for picking up long-tail traffic in India.

Searching "xelon browser" on TikTok, X and Reddit turns up nothing relevant. It runs no content marketing.

Where the money comes from

Only one source: Google AdMob interstitial ads, disclosed in the privacy policy. Its pitch is blocking ads on web pages, yet it shows ads itself every time a user opens it or taps back. Nearly all the negative reviews complain about this: "Ads come every 1 minute" (1,485 likes), "too many ads!" (278 likes), and an Indonesian review saying it's ads right on opening and ads again on going back (223 likes).

Ad rates in India and Indonesia are low, but it adds 30-40k installs a day, users scroll for long stretches, and interstitial impressions are very high. Costs are minimal: a WebView wrapper, a few proxy servers, and a template website. No public revenue figures exist; the business is probably profitable (inferred).

I can't see any product difference between Xelon and Puer, Xerizen or Xewa. It launched a few weeks before Xerizen and Xewa and took a top-30 spot on the Indonesia Tools chart; that's the whole difference. These look like one team's matrix of apps spread across different developer accounts: Puer and Xelon are both backed by Cypriot companies, and the other two developer accounts look bought (inferred, unverified).

How many people know about it

Almost nobody. No press coverage, no discussion on X, no public revenue, just a few APK download sites auto-reposting it, plus that YouTube tutorial with 517 views.

But "nobody knows about it" isn't good news here. Teams that run this playbook don't watch the press; they watch the charts. Three weeks after Xelon took off, two nearly identical clones appeared, each gaining over 200k a week.

If it were you

D: understand it, but don't follow it. The business is probably profitable, but the profit depends on two things you shouldn't bet on and can't rely on: helping users get around their country's legal blocks to watch adult content, and using neutral store copy to cover suggestive use on Google Play.

Who it suits: Nobody should follow it. The only people who could realistically pursue it already hold a pool of developer accounts, proxy nodes and adult ad-network channels, and don't mind accounts getting banned. And they're already doing it.

Who it doesn't suit: Indie developers and small teams. You don't have developer accounts to burn; one takedown can get the other apps on the same account banned too. Copies take a month to make, and by the time you ship, clones like Xewa and Xerizen are already on the charts.

What you can take from it: The method is worth more than the product. First, look for demand that policy creates on Tools free charts in markets like Indonesia, India and Saudi Arabia: when something gets blocked or restricted, people look for a way around it, and conversion on that kind of demand is absurdly high. Second, the weaknesses of this type of app are right there in the reviews: ads every minute. In a compliant niche, such as a data-saving browser for low-end phone users or a video downloader that doesn't show ads, "fewer ads" alone can be the selling point (inferred).

How to get users (if you build a compliant competitor): Copy its ASO, not its screenshots. Target local-language keywords like "browser + save data / download / fast", and look for gaps near the top 50 of the Indonesia Tools chart. In India, a few hundred dollars can pay a Hindi micro-channel to make a "how to use" tutorial, and that long-tail traffic holds up well.

Timing: For an app like Xelon there's no "should have launched earlier" window. How long it stays open depends on when Google clears out this batch.

What would show this read was wrong: ① Xelon, Puer and Xewa are still charting and still growing installs six months from now, meaning Google actually tolerates this category and the policy risk is overestimated; ② someone builds a compliant version of the same demand (no edgy framing, no circumvention) and also reaches the top 30 of the Indonesia or India Tools chart, showing there's a compliant opportunity to chase and D should be raised; ③ conversely, if these apps are all pulled within a month or two, the window is closing faster than expected.

Why Xelon: Reels Browser (com.xelon.browser) took off

Channel: Google Play / Tools. Developer Advergile (ADVERGILE LTD, Paphos, Cyprus). Store debut 2026-09-16. Research day 2026-11-06.

Bottom line

It's a grey browser nominally sold as a "short-video / Reels browser" but actually used as adult video plus circumvention: a built-in proxy gets around carrier blocks in India, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia, store screenshots use AI-generated sexualized women to hint at the use, and it monetizes through AdMob interstitials. It took off because of a proven category template that's being copied in bulk (Puer, Video Browser/Neuro, Xewa, Xerizen...), not because the product itself is distinctive.

Data (our library googleplay, 2026-11-06)

  • 980,967 total installs worldwide; +328,137 in the last 7 days (10-30→11-06, about +50%; data-card basis +33%). Ratings 1,647 (10-29)→2,242 (11-06), +54~92 per day.
  • Curve since launch (app_day_ext, AppstoreSpy estimate): 10-09 only 15k, then 10-13 jumped to 122k, 10-21 about +140k per day, 10-27 to 650k. Stepped spikes, not smooth organic growth.
  • Only on two storefronts' Tools free charts: Indonesia Tools Top Free, ranked 27~51 (10-29 #48 → 11-04 #27 → 11-06 #30), India Tools Top Free, 35 → 116 (falling). Never charted on any Top Grossing chart; no in-app purchases.
  • Ratings/installs ratio ≈ 0.23%, on the low side.
  • Store page: Contains ads, 4.0~4.1 stars, Teen/12+ (labeled "Unrestricted Internet"), last updated 2026-10-01 (v1.1.2).

What it actually is (what users use it for)

  • The description says "reel mode, Ad-guard, built-in proxy, dark UI" and explicitly disclaims "we host no content; what you access is your responsibility."
  • The core selling points on the official site xelon.pages.dev are really: proxy on by default, hides your IP; "auto-bypass when a site won't open"; incognito, no logs; built-in downloader and player. The proxy page screenshot also shows an "Enable TOR – Dark web" toggle.
  • Store screenshots: the hero image and every tab are AI-generated women in sports bras (see store screenshots 1, 2), the usual suggestive creative for this category.
  • Reviews (pulled with google-play-scraper; 38 from the Indonesia store, 57 from India): Indonesian reviews include "apk isinya bokep jir" (the app is full of porn, 148 likes), "film sex video", "apalah bokep"; Indian/Bangladeshi users write "সেক্স" (sex, 123 likes), "থ্রি এক্স ছবিতে" (XXX pictures), "picture sexy", "XXX your". Reviews on the same template, Puer, include "why now it doesn't play NSFW content?", "pornographic content", "this is not for children".
  • Conclusion: the real demand is watching adult video in countries where porn sites are blocked (India, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia all have national blocks). Proxy = getting around the block, "reels" = vertical scrolling of clips, "ad-guard" = blocking the pop-up ads that adult sites carry.
  • Negative reviews are almost all about too many ads: "Ads come every 1 minute" (1,485 likes), "too many ads!" (278 likes), "biar bintang yg bicara apk sampah… ads the moment you open it, and pressing back brings another ad" (223 likes). The privacy policy says the ads come from Google AdMob.

Where users come from (growth levers)

  1. Play Store search + category charts (main channel, inferred, fairly confident): the category keywords are "video browser / reels browser / proxy browser / browser anti blokir / xxx browser" and similar. Its top-30 spot on the Indonesia Tools chart itself generates exposure; suggestive creative lifts click-through. Evidence: it appears only on the id/in Tools charts, and similar products rank near it on the same chart (on the same day, Indonesia Tools also had Puer 34 and Browser Proxy 2026 36).
  2. Stepped spikes, possibly paid acquisition or one-off traffic buying (unverified): 10-11→10-13 added +107k in two days, 10-21 about +140k per day; ratings/installs only 0.23%. Our Meta ad library shows no Page for Xelon/Advergile/Puer (we track a watchlist; not finding one doesn't mean they didn't run ads); it is also not in the Google ad library winners list. Adult-oriented traffic is often bought from adult ad networks or cross-promoted with other gray apps, which our library can't see.
  3. Small YouTuber tutorial "How to Use X Browser App" (confirmed to exist, very small reach): Hindi channel Technical Akbar 07 posted "How to Use the Xelon Browser App" (517 views, about 10 days ago); the same kind of channel has made the same tutorial for Proxy Browser, Onyx Browser and Neuro Browser. This is a standing long-tail traffic habit in India, but the view count shows it isn't the main driver.
  4. TikTok / X / Reddit: TikHub searches for "xelon" and "xelon browser" return no relevant videos; x-radar shows 60 posts in the last 0 days. No content marketing footprint.
  5. Download sites (APKPure, Softonic, CNET, Uptodown) all index it; these are automatic reposts.

Why people stay / where the money comes from

  • Users stay because it "opens blocked adult sites + vertical scrolling": a real need. Substitutes either require a separate VPN (an extra step, and VPNs also get blocked), or mainstream browsers like Opera (which won't give you a preset entry point to this content).
  • Money: purely AdMob ads (interstitial density is very high; users complain about "one every minute"). eCPMs in India/Indonesia are low, but 3~40k new installs per day, and heavy video-scrolling sessions are long, so interstitial impressions pile up. Development cost is extremely low (WebView shell + proxy nodes + template site). No public revenue data.

Differentiation

  • Versus old-school proxy browsers and VPNs: it hides the proxy as on-by-default with no node selection, then packages it as a "Reels / short-video browser". The name and screenshots aim more bluntly at adult-video demand, while neutral descriptions get it through review.
  • Versus same-template products (Puer, Xewa, Xerizen): almost no difference; copy, site structure and feature lists match item for item. Xelon's only edge is that it grew earlier and secured a top-30 Indonesia Tools spot.
  • So differentiation isn't why it took off; the cause is "a category template + demand manufactured by a block + big markets (Indonesia / India / Saudi Arabia / Nigeria)". Whoever gets the chart slot first takes the traffic.

How many people have seen it, and is anyone copying it

  • Visibility: few people know about it yet. No press, no X discussion, no public revenue; only download sites and one YouTube tutorial with 517 views.
  • Copycats: already here. Xerizen (10-06) and Xewa (10-10) appeared 3~4 weeks after Xelon launched; their sites are all *.pages.dev with isomorphic copy. They may be a matrix from the same teams as Puer and Xelon, spread across different developer accounts (Puer and Xelon are both Cyprus companies, and developer accounts sofmalexpert / enerdziion look purchased); unverified.

What to borrow

  • Playbook: find a demand that a policy "manufactures" (a block), ship fast with a generic WebView shell + proxy, get through review with neutral descriptions, lift conversion with suggestive screenshots, spread the same template across multiple developer accounts, and recoup through interstitial ads.
  • Risks: Google Play is highly likely to pull apps over "circumventing blocks + adult-content suggestion" policies, at any time; rivals can copy it within a month; "too many ads" reviews drag down ratings. This is an arbitrage business, not a product that compounds.

Uncertain

  • There is no direct evidence for the specific channels behind the growth (paid acquisition vs. store search / charts); the sources of the two surges, 10-13 and 10-21, are unknown.
  • Whether Advergile, FoxyAppsCY, sofmalexpert and enerdziion are the same team is unverified (AppBrain says Advergile has been active since 2023, with about 20k installs before that; earlier apps may have been removed).
  • No data on revenue scale or retention.
