# Pay 10 rupees, then pay 1000: the AI video app that hit India's grossing chart in two weeks is on its third shell

**What it is** An Android app where you upload photos and pick a template to generate AI videos and portraits, aimed at mass users in India, with a one-time in-app purchase of ₹1,000–3,400.

**Why it took off** A team in Fujian swapped the same app onto a third shell and relayed paid acquisition across them, priced high, listed in an uncontested utility category, and asked for a rating right at first open. So it reached the grossing chart without many installs.

**C** **How you could follow** Don't build the Nth generic template app in India. If you have a paid acquisition team, pick one specific emotional scenario and one market that isn't crowded yet, and test on a "ship a month, pay back in two" rhythm.

Grade C: there's nothing in the product worth copying, and the playbook has already been run in India by a dozen skilled teams, with this app being one of the weaker ones. You can learn the shell-relay and category-arbitrage tactics, but following it is not worth it for latecomers or indie developers. Few people know about it yet

Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-10-14 · 11-07 installs 118,317

Android · Total installs worldwide

Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.

Zuvia AI is an Android app where you "upload a photo, pick a template, get an AI video." It started scaling in late October and reached 118k installs in two weeks, climbing to #7 in India's Google Play utility grossing chart. Its features are identical to a dozen similar apps on the Indian chart. What made it work is the playbook: the same code under three names, three companies listing it in turn, paid acquisition, high prices, a category nobody is fighting over, and a rating request on first open. This piece explains how the playbook works and why it's worth understanding but not really worth copying.

### A one-star review that got 15 "helpful" votes

On Oct 26, an Indian user left a comment on Zuvia's store page: "don't install, they are making us fool simply wasted 10rs" (Don't install, they're making fools of us, I just wasted 10 rupees). 15 people marked it helpful, and it's the most-liked review on the app. Two days later another was more specific: "sabse sadi app 10 rupe dalne ke baad 1000 rupe daalo" (the simplest app: after you put in 10 rupees, you're asked to put in 1000 more).

Another from Oct 24: "I'm just instal how I can give rating before use..." (I just installed it, how can I give a rating before using it?).

These three comments are essentially Zuvia's business model: a low-priced hook pulls people in, generation requires ₹1,000 or more, and a rating prompt pops up right at open. By Nov 6, its India store page showed 14,236 ratings at 4.25 stars, 10,165 of them five-star (Google Play India store, 11-06).

### What it is

The store description is generic: upload a photo, write a line of an idea, or pick a template to generate "cinematic" videos and photos. You can make matching copies, save templates, and swap faces. There are no ads, only in-app purchases. In the India store, items are priced ₹1,000–3,400, or $8.99–29.99 in USD.

The reviews show who the users are and what they want: "me and my boy friend one song dance" (me and my boyfriend doing a song dance), "husband ke sath meri photo bnai" (made a photo of me with my husband), and some people paste long Gemini-style English prompts straight into the comments: "A cinematic, surreal double-exposure … portrait … South Asian young woman." These are mass-market users in India, trained by the "copy the prompt and edit your photo" trend on Instagram Reels. They want a selfie turned into a cinematic shot, a couple photo, or a dance video, but don't want to write prompts themselves. Template apps fit that exactly.

### The numbers over two weeks

| Date | Cumulative global installs | India utility grossing |
|---|---|---|
| 10-29 | 6,922 | 43 |
| 10-30 | 35,707 | 24 |
| 11-02 | 93,509 | 12 |
| 11-03 | 107,209 | 10 |
| 11-06 | 118,317 | 7 |

Data from Google Play installs and India charts, 10-29 to 11-06. On the same day it ranked #107 on India's overall grossing chart across all apps, and #110 on Brazil's utility grossing chart.

Read these numbers together:

- **The rating count is abnormally high.** 14,236 ratings for 118k installs, about 12%. A normal app runs 1–2%. Two-thirds of recent reviews are five-star, most of them just "very good" or "nice." This is an in-app push for ratings, and the "rate it before you've used it" comment makes that plain.

- **Installs come in steps.** 10-30 added over 29k in a day, then 11-02 added over 58k in a day, with almost no movement in between. Reviews only started appearing in Oct 23, with 24 that first day and then seventy to eighty a day after. Going from under two weeks on the store to tens of thousands a day, with no mention anywhere on TikTok, X, or YouTube, points to paid acquisition (inference; the specific channel was not found).

- **Its grossing rank is far out of proportion to its size.** On the same India overall grossing chart, Photora with 7.53M installs ranks #14, Vividix with 2.31M ranks #29, and Zuvia with 118k ranks #107. Fewer users, but the ones who pay, pay a lot.

### The real story: the same app's third face

Zuvia's privacy policy URL is `xscgtop.com/doc/hwZuviaAIyszc.html`. Replacing "Zuvia" with other names turns up two siblings:

| App | Launched | Developer | Installs | Landscape |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Maevra AI | 2026-07-27 | Jinjiang Shipai | 423k, 27,098 ratings | Essentially flat since October, with India utility grossing ranks in the 12–18 range |
| Aurella AI | 2026-08-25 | Jiuchuang Tianxia (Hong Kong) | 41k | Never scaled up |
| Zuvia AI | 2026-09-16 (store page) | Xiamen Yunyuedong | 118k | Started scaling in late October |

The privacy policies of three apps all use the same path template (hw means overseas, yszc is the pinyin initials of 'privacy policy'), and the domains share prefixes like xscg and shipai. All sit in the Tools category, all have in-app purchases at $8.99–29.99, all only chart in India's Top Grossing, and all list personal Gmail addresses as developer contact. Xiamen Yunyuedong was founded in July 2024 with registered capital of 1M and makes pet AI portrait and voice-changer apps in China. The three companies are run by the same people; this is inferred from these traces, equity links are unverified (inference, high confidence).

The timing is a relay: Maevra launched in July, ran paid installs from 9 to October, then added only 211 installs between 10-29 and 11-06 and has stopped buying traffic. Zuvia picked up in late October. This is standard practice for Chinese going-global tools teams on Google Play: one codebase, reskinned, with the publishing entity rotated and each shell given one or two months of spend. New package names get a 'newly published' boost, and if one account gets banned or piles up bad reviews, the whole operation isn't lost. After paid acquisition stops, the weekly subscriptions from old users keep renewing, which is why Maevra still sits in the top 20 of the Tools grossing chart.

### Why it sits in the Tools category

AI video template apps usually go in Photography or Entertainment, where the competition is dense. In India's Tools grossing top 25, nearly everything is VPNs, phone cleaners and WhatsApp trackers and there are few AI video apps, so Zuvia reached #7 on modest spend. The category doesn't bring much traffic in itself, but a strong chart position makes the store page look like a legitimate popular app, and it's less likely to get noticed by competitors.

### Where the money comes from, and who competes with it

The money comes from impulse payments: a low entry price of about ₹10 pulls people in, seeing the result requires paying ₹1,000 or more, and some say they were charged ₹2,300. Negative reviews cluster on one issue: 'Fully paid app', 'without money no trial', 'they will not show your uploaded photo at last before giving money'. You can't see results without paying, and people who pay report crashes and failed generations. Refunds and bad reviews are a built-in cost of this business.

In India, 'turn a photo into an AI video or portrait' is a red ocean. In the Nov 6 India overall Top Grossing top 110, there were more than a dozen similar apps:

| Product | Installs | India overall Top Grossing | Selling points |
|---|---|---|---|
| Photora - AI Family Maker | 7.53M | 14 | Family portrait |
| Vividix - AI Memory Maker | 2.31M | 29 | Memories |
| Mivora / Phant AI | 8.4M / 12M | 35 / 77 | Veteran reskin matrix, spread across many countries |
| Rendio - AI Romance Studio | 1.94M | 40 | Couple (same developer as Photora) |
| BabyGenie | 4.67M | 58 | Baby photos |
| Kling AI / Hailuo AI | Tens of millions | 55 / 106 | Big-company app with its own video model |

Data: Google Play India chart and install counts, 11-06. There's also Google Gemini, free, and India's prompt-based photo-editing trend started there.

Compared to these, Zuvia has no scenario that can be explained in one line (family portrait, couple, baby), and no proprietary model. Its scale is an order of magnitude smaller. It isn't a leader in this niche; it's another follower, just a very practiced one.

### What to learn from it

- Mainstream Indian users will pay ₹1,000 or more for 'one photo to AI video', and more than a dozen apps charting at once shows this isn't an outlier.

- In paid-acquisition business, the 'reskin matrix' is a complete workflow: multiple publisher entities, multiple package names, rotated spend, and milking the subscription tail after paid acquisition stops.

- Category arbitrage and in-app review prompting are two small levers: one makes the chart position look good, the other pushes the star rating above 4, so bought traffic converts better.

- Photora and BabyGenie are ten times bigger, and the difference is a single emotional scenario you can describe in one sentence. The more specific the scenario, the easier the creatives are to shoot and the better the landing page converts (inference).

### If it were you

**C. Worth learning from, not worth copying.** Zuvia has no product worth copying. Its playbook (reskin, paid acquisition, high prices, prompted reviews) is already run by a dozen experienced teams in India, and Zuvia is one of the weaker ones. The ones making money here are the teams with the best creatives and the tightest ROI math, not latecomers.

**Good fit for:** Chinese teams that have already run going-global tools paid acquisition on Google Play and have several developer accounts and a media-buying team. What they should study is how Zuvia rotates shells, not Zuvia itself.

**Not for:** Solo indie developers and small teams with no paid-acquisition experience. There's no organic traffic (Zuvia has zero content on TikTok or X), no technical moat (the model is third-party), and only ad budget and ban risk.

**If you still want to do it:** Don't build the Nth generic template app in India. Pick a specific emotional scenario (an animated video of a deceased relative, a wedding invitation video, a birthday video for a child) and choose a market where the charts aren't yet crowded with these apps. Zuvia itself has climbed to #110 in Brazil's Tools grossing chart, which suggests people there also pay for this (inference). A one-time payment or a small credit pack draws less anger than a weekly subscription. Letting users see a watermarked preview of the result can cut 'scam' reviews by a lot.

**How to acquire users:** Paid acquisition, no other route. The creative is a before/after of 'ordinary selfie → cinematic video', one scenario per ad. Test 20–30 creatives in one country on a small budget, and only add spend once you find a cost per install below half of first-order revenue (inference).

**When to get in:** A single shell of this kind lives about one to two months, which is what happened with Maevra. If you try it, plan on 'one month to ship, two months to break even', and stop if it hasn't paid back by then.

**Signs you've got it wrong:** (1) After Zuvia stops buying traffic (installs flat for two weeks), it still holds a top 20 spot on India's Tools grossing chart for over a month. That would mean the subscription tail is thicker than it looks and this business is more worth doing than it appears. (2) A comparable app grows to hundreds of thousands of installs through organic content (TikTok, Reels) rather than paid acquisition. That would mean there's a path without ad spend. (3) The reverse: Google Play starts mass-removing these high-priced reskin apps, or Gemini launches one-tap templates in India. Either would close the window outright.

Where users come from

- Inferred **Paid acquisition (specific channels unknown)** : 118k installs over two weeks with step-function jumps, yet no organic content on TikTok, X, YouTube or media. Google's Transparency Center can't identify the advertiser by developer name or domain (possibly via agency accounts or ad networks).

- **Confirmed** **Reskin matrix relay** : the three apps' privacy policies all follow the /doc/hw<name>AIyszc.html template (xscgtop.com, xscghaiwai.com, shipaitop.com), all in the TOOLS category, all with $8.99–29.99 in-app purchases, all charting only in India. Maevra stopped growing after October, and Zuvia picked up the volume.

- **Confirmed** **Category arbitrage (TOOLS)** : India's TOOLS grossing top 25 is almost entirely VPNs, cleaners and chat trackers, and Zuvia landed at #7. Comparable AI video apps mostly sit in PHOTOGRAPHY/ENTERTAINMENT.

- Inferred **In-app prompted reviews** : 14,152 ratings / 118,317 installs ≈ 12% (normal is 1–2%). Of 150 recent reviews, 108 are 5 stars, mostly one or two words.

- Inferred **Riding India's Gemini prompt photo-edit trend** : reviews include people posting long Gemini-style prompts and 'husband ke sath meri photo bnai'. Instagram has a trending-ai-prompts-2026 hashtag, and India has dedicated prompt sites.

## Why Zuvia AI - Video Art Maker (com.xmyyd.zuvia) got this far

> Channel: Google Play. Developer: Xiamen Yunyuedong Information Technology Co., Ltd. Research date 2026-11-06.

### Bottom line

Zuvia didn't succeed because the product was novel. A team from Fujian (Xiamen/Jinjiang) used a **reskin matrix** playbook: the same 'photo → AI video/template effects + face swap' template app, shipped under three shells and three publishing entities (Maevra in July, Aurella in August, Zuvia from 9 to October), targeting mainstream Indian users and scaling after launch. It sits in the **TOOLS category** (India's TOOLS grossing chart is almost all VPNs and cleaners), priced ₹1,000–3,400 in one in-app tier, and with a small download base it reached #7 in India's TOOLS grossing and #107 overall. No one has written about it, and there's no organic content.

| Countries covered | Only charted in India and Brazil | chart_rank |

A few ways to read it:

- **Rating-to-install ratio ≈ 12%** (14,152 / 118,317). Normal apps run 1–2%. In the review sample, 108/150 are 5-star, many of them just 'good', 'nice' or 'super', which fits **heavy in-app review prompts** (a popup on open, or right after a generation completes). Maevra from the same matrix also shows 27,098 ratings / 423k installs ≈ 6.4%.

- **The install curve is stepped** (29k and 58k jumps over two days, with 0 in between). Part of this is Play's maxInstalls batch updates, but "tens of thousands a day just a few days after launch" itself points to concentrated paid distribution, not organic growth.

- **Its chart rank far outruns its install base** : on India's overall Top Grossing, Photora has 7.53M installs and ranks 14, Vividix has 2.31M and ranks 29, and Zuvia has 118k and ranks 107. For an app two weeks old, that means high payment conversion and high price per user (from ₹1,000 per tier), not a big user base.

- The reviews include many 'scam', 'Fully paid app wast of time and money' and 'paise lost chor 420', the classic complaint of 'free to download, paid to generate, unhappy after paying'. Revenue comes from **impulse payments** , and retention is probably weak.

### 2. Competitors: who else does the same thing

'Upload a photo → template turns it into an AI video/portrait' is a **red ocean** on India's Play Store in 2026. Among the top 110 India overall Top Grossing, there are more than a dozen similar apps (googleplay library 2026-11-06):

| Product | Platform | Launched | Scale (global installs / last 7 days) | India overall Top Grossing | How it differs from Zuvia |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Photora - AI Family Maker(Digtial Dream Forge) | Android | 2026-07 | 7.53M / +810k | 14 | Focuses on the "family photo / group portrait" scenario, ENTERTAINMENT category, ten times the volume |
| Rendio - AI Romance Studio (same developer) | Android | 2026-07 | 1.94M / +390k | 40 | Same multi-skin setup, focused on couple scenarios |
| Vividix - AI Memory Maker | Android | 2026-07 | 2.31M / +650k | 29 | Focuses on the "memories" scenario |
| Mivora / Phant AI(CamSoft AI Magic) | Android | 2026-02 / 2025-06 | 8.4M / 12M | 35 / 77 | Veteran reskin matrix, spread across many countries |
| BabyGenie(FuMaoMao) | Android | 2026-05 | 4.67M | 58 | Single scenario (baby photo generation) |
| Usgen, Dradra | Android | 2026-03 | 3.71M / 2.94M | 76 / 102 | Group photos / AI portraits |
| Kling AI, Hailuo AI, PixVerse | Android / iOS / web | 2024–2025 | 28M–80M | Kling 55, Hailuo 106 | The model makers' own apps, in-house models, rolled out globally |
| Google Gemini (Nano Banana image editing) | Big-company features | 2024- | 2.5B installs | — | Free; the source of India's "copy the prompt, change the photo" trend |
| **Same matrix** : Maevra AI (Jinjiang Shipai, com.xmyq.maevra) | Android | 2026-07-27 | 423k, +211 in the last 7 days | 182 (TOOLS Top Grossing #16) | Same template, same price, same TOOLS category; volume has stopped, only the subscription tail remains |
| **Same matrix** : Aurella AI (JIUCHUANG TIANXIA, com.jctx.aurella) | Android | 2026-08-25 | 41k | — (TOOLS Top Grossing #85) | Same template; never took off |

Bottom line: **it has no functional differentiation** . Compared with Photora/Vividix, its scenarios are more generic (no one-line hooks like "family photo" or "couple"); compared with Kling/Hailuo, it has no in-house model (its website says "choose a generation model", so it is a wrapper calling third-party models).

### 3. Matrix evidence (the most important finding this time)

- The privacy policy links use the same template path `/doc/hw<AppName>AIyszc.html` (hw = haiwai, overseas; yszc = privacy policy in pinyin):
    - Zuvia:`https://xscgtop.com/doc/hwZuviaAIyszc.html`
    - Aurella: `https://www.xscghaiwai.com/doc/hwAurellaAIyszc.html` (the domain shares the `xscg` prefix; "haiwai" = overseas)
    - Maevra: `https://www.shipaitop.com/doc/hwMaevraAIyszc.html` (googleplay library app.privacy_policy; only these three apps use this format in the whole library)

- The three apps are all in the TOOLS category, all have in-app purchases of $8.99–$29.99, all charted only on India's top grossing chart, all are named "X AI - …", all use personal Gmail developer addresses (sujingjing881 / suqingjian39 / wujingpo32), and all package names start with xm (Xiamen).

- Three entities: Xiamen Yunyuedong (founded 2024-07-11, registered capital 1M, legal representative Lin Bo, Siming District; in China it makes the "Xiaoweiba AI" pet AI portrait app and the "Moemei Voice Changer" — see qcc.com, yunyuedong.cn, aiyunyue.cn), Jinjiang Shipai, and JIUCHUANG TIANXIA (Hong Kong). One team spreading several entities across the apps to diversify ban risk is standard practice for Chinese go-global tool teams on Google Play.

- Timing is a **relay** : Maevra launched in late July, volume ran from 9 to October (reviews nearly stopped after 10-20), and installs barely grew after October (10-29 422,826 → 11-06 423,037); Zuvia picked up volume right as Maevra faded, in late October. Maevra is still on TOOLS Top Grossing #12–18, which suggests the earlier paying users' weekly subscriptions are still renewing.

### 4. Growth levers: where users come from

- **Paid acquisition (highly likely, though I have not directly seen creatives)** : 118k installs over two weeks with step-function jumps. Searching "Zuvia AI" on TikTok returns no videos related to this app (only a same-named Turkish dating account and a Brazilian token project); on X there are 30 posts in 0 days (x-radar); the YouTube channel "@Zuviaai" is an unrelated repost account with 49 subscribers; Exa/Jina search only returns auto-generated pages from APK sites like CNET, Softonic, and AppBrain. Download speed like this without any organic buzz can only come from paid campaigns.
    - Our Google Ads Transparency library marks both Zuvia and Maevra as `no_ads` (no advertiser matches by developer name or domain), and neither appears in the TikTok ad library (EU only) or the Meta ad library. Chinese go-global teams often run ads through agency accounts or ad networks like Mintegral or Pangle, which these tools cannot see; **specific channels unverified** .

- **In-store** : listed in the TOOLS category. Of the top 25 on India's TOOLS Top Grossing chart, almost all are VPN, cleaner, and WhatsApp tracker apps, with few AI video apps. Ranking #7 in TOOLS is easier than in PHOTOGRAPHY or ENTERTAINMENT (crowded with competitors), and harder for rival teams to spot at a glance. The category itself brings limited traffic; the main benefit is a better-looking chart position.

- **Incentivized reviews** : a 12% rating-prompt rate, plus many one- or two-word 5-star reviews; a store rating of 4.25 supports paid-acquisition landing-page conversion.

- **Riding India's "AI photo prompt" trend** : reviews include people pasting long Gemini-style prompts directly ("A cinematic, surreal double-exposure … South Asian young woman…"), "gadi wali photo", "husband ke sath meri photo bnai". Users were educated by the "copy the prompt, change the photo" trend on Instagram Reels. Instagram has a "trending-ai-prompts-2026" hashtag, and there are prompt sites aimed at Indian users like auraprompt.in and sushilprompt.com. They want "turn a selfie into a cinematic shot / group photo / video" without writing prompts, and template apps catch exactly that.

### 5. Why it took off

1. **Demand is ready-made** : India's mass users have been educated by the Gemini/Nano Banana prompt-editing trend, have clear demand for "photo to AI video / portrait", and are willing to pay impulsively. India's Q2 2026 in-app purchase revenue hit a record $345M, up 35% year over year, with AI subscriptions as the main driver (reported by gadgetsnow/techbuzz).

2. **Matrix relay + paid acquisition** : the same codebase in different skins and entities; when one app (Maevra) finishes its volume run, the next (Zuvia) keeps spending. New package names get fresh "new release" weight and also spread ban and bad-review risk.

3. **High ticket price** : the ₹1,000–3,400 tier is very expensive in India; a small number of paying users can push a two-week-old app to #107 overall on the India chart.

4. **Category arbitrage + incentivized reviews** : placing it in TOOLS yields an attractive Top Grossing rank; a 12% rating-prompt rate holds the star rating at 4.25.

### 6. Differentiation

At the product level there is **almost no differentiation** : its features (image-to-video, templates, same-style, face swap, favorites) match a dozen similar apps on India's charts, and the models are third-party. It works because of its **playbook** : reskinned matrix, paid acquisition, high pricing, the TOOLS category, and incentivized reviews. Compared with Photora or Vividix, which own one emotional scenario, it is even weaker; that is why it is an order of magnitude smaller, and will likely follow Maevra by pausing spend within weeks and leaving only the subscription tail.

### 7. Visibility and copycats

- **Barely known** : no media coverage, no X discussion, no TrustMRR listings or founders posting revenue; the only hits are auto-generated APK-site pages.

- **Copycats** : it is itself a copycat (the category is already crowded in India); the same team's Maevra and Aurella are its predecessor and siblings, so this is not external copying. No outside team is specifically copying it.

### 8. What others can learn

- India's mass-market AI portrait/video template apps still find buyers at ₹1,000+ in-app prices; a dozen similar apps sit in India's overall Top Grossing top 110.

- One codebase, multiple skins and entities, paid acquisition in relays; each volume run lasts about 1–2 months, and after an old package stops spending, its subscription tail can keep it on the Top Grossing chart.

- Choose a low-competition category (TOOLS) to win a Top Grossing rank; in-app rating prompts hold the star rating above 4.

- But this route is a paid-acquisition business, decided by creatives and ROI, not by the product. "Scam" comments in the reviews show high refund and bad-review risk.

### 9. Uncertain

- Specific paid channels (Google UAC / Meta / ad networks / agency accounts) are unverified; Google's transparency library finds nothing by name or domain.

- Revenue is unknown; only chart positions are visible (India TOOLS #7, overall #107).

- No retention or renewal data; Maevra still ranks #16 on TOOLS Top Grossing after paid spend stopped, which only indirectly suggests some subscriptions are renewing.

- "Xiamen Yunyuedong / Jinjiang Shipai / JIUCHUANG TIANXIA are one team" is inferred from privacy-policy paths, domains, pricing, category, and package names; the corporate shareholding has not been verified.

- There are three claimed launch dates (9-16 / 10-14 / 10-23), caused by store resets.
