Turning Free Fire into "Minecraft": an Indonesian developer turned a hacky texture pack into a legit app that hit #1 in its category within a week

Zayon: Game Space launched on Google Play in Oct 27. Five days later it was #1 in Indonesia's Personalization category free chart, then #1 in the same category's top grossing chart. It isn't selling game acceleration (every game booster app on the store does that). It's selling the "grafik MC" Indonesian Free Fire players have been asking for over a year: turning the game's visuals into Minecraft-style blocks. Below: where the demand came from, how it grew in a week, how it makes money, who's already copying it, and whether there's still room for you.

"Before you needed a ROG, now there's a halal version"

One Indonesian player left a five-star review of Zayon on Play one night in Nov 3:

dulu kepengen grafik mc harus beli rog dulu bahkan ada yang ngakalkn sampe pake file ilegal, tapi sekarang ada versi halalnyaa😭

"Before, to get grafik MC you had to buy a ROG gaming phone, some even used illegal files. Now there's finally a halal (legit) version."

The same week, someone wrote "thanks to you, my grafik MC dream came true, no need to buy an expensive phone" and "MediaTek phones can finally run MC" (Play reviews, 10-31). Those few lines pretty much explain the whole lift.

The developer is credited as ZAYON, the site is zayon.site, the contact is a Gmail address, and players in the reviews call him "bang Yon." In Nov 4 the official TikTok account posted a video titled "There's someone behind Zayon who never sleeps" (TikTok @zayonresponse, 25k views). Most likely a single person or a very small team (inference).

What is grafik MC, and why do people want it?

In Indonesia, Vietnam and Brazil's Free Fire communities, "grafik MC / grafik minecraft" is an old meme: downscaling game textures into pixelated block style. Players believe two things: it runs smoother on low-end phones, and enemy outlines are clearer, so it's "easier to headshot" (their term: HS gacor). On TikTok, an April 2025 video "Minecraft graphics free fire" got 2.11M views, and an August 2026 full tutorial "install grafik minecraft on all phone models" got 540k views.

But before Zayon, there were only two ways to get it: buy specific gaming phones (ROG, RedMagic and similar brands' built-in game spaces), or download texture packs from MediaFire and modify the APK, which means touching game files and risking a ban. The demand had already been proven by a year of viral videos. What was missing was a legit, safe tool that works on ordinary phones.

What it does

Zayon itself is a "game space" app: a game library, per-game refresh rate and resolution settings, FPS and temperature in a floating overlay, crosshairs, notification blocking, ping testing. Rivals all have these. What's different is a feature called Light Texture. The official site describes it as "a different visual style for supported games, from light to fully blocky," and dragging a slider shows Free Fire turning into a block world.

A few key choices:

• It doesn't touch game files. It uses Shizuku or wireless debugging to get system debugging permissions and adjusts the phone's graphics settings, not the game itself. The first FAQ item on the site reads: "Is ZAYON safe? Yes. ZAYON does not modify game files or game data, it only adjusts your phone's settings." The developer repeats this line in replies to negative reviews.
• It lowers the activation bar to the floor. Besides Shizuku, there are wireless debugging, borrowing a friend's phone via OTG, and web WebUSB routes, so students without a PC can still set it up (zayon.site/aktivasi.html).
• It openly admits not every phone will work. The site has a dedicated page explaining why your phone may not show the block effect: the OS is too old, the manufacturer didn't ship the needed graphics components, or the game's rendering can't be changed. Unsupported phones get a free Lite Mode (resolution reduction only) as a fallback.

How it works technically isn't visible from the outside. The inference is that it uses a toggle in newer Android versions that lets developers adjust the graphics driver, which is why device restrictions are so strict. The most common complaints in the reviews are exactly this: "my phone doesn't support grafik MC," "Android 14 can only watch others play," "BANG, can you make it work on all phones?"

Where the traffic came from: a TikTok tutorial wave within a week

The timeline is tight (TikTok view counts, 11-06):

Almost all the posting accounts are small ones with a few hundred to a few thousand followers, concentrated in Indonesia's Free Fire "mobilador" (phone tuning) scene. Whether this was organic, paid partnerships, or the developer's own account network can't be determined. The official team also runs a second account, @zayonresponse2. I found no ad buys and no press coverage, and no one mentioned the name on X in the 30 days.

Interestingly, the activation hassle became the content. Pairing Shizuku and turning on wireless debugging each give creators a step-by-step tutorial. The official account's top videos include one pairing tutorial and one on "will it get me banned." Viewers then search "zayon" or "zayon tekstur ringan" on Play, and the store's link parameters show those search terms.

Category choice also helped: it sits in the crowded "Tools" space but under "Personalization," where the chart bar is lower, and #1 in that chart brings its own store exposure. On the Google Play charts, Indonesia's Personalization free chart ranked it #10-30, #116, #10-31 and #50, #11-01 and #1, and by 11-06 it held #1 for 6 straight days. Indonesia's overall app free chart peaked at #8 (11-02). The Personalization free charts in the Philippines, Malaysia and Vietnam also reached the top 3, and Brazil reached #10.

The install numbers need a different reading: Play's displayed count went from 11-02 to 19,11-03 and then jumped to 226k, with 11-06 at 270k, 2,053 ratings, and a 4.2 score. Store numbers update slowly, so real traction should be read as 10-29 to 11-01.

Where the money comes from

Free users rely on "tokens": daily check-ins and watching rewarded ads. Each feature runs out after a while and you have to earn more. Premium removes the token limits and unlocks the strongest Extreme block texture. The store lists it at $0.99–2.99 each, and the website says "you can cancel anytime on Google Play." It's a subscription.

The reviews spell out where the design gets touchy: "ad token cooldown is 1 hours, change it to 10 minutes", "ad cooldown 2 hours", "too many ads (iklan mulu)", "Premium is a bit pricey, lower it". Apart from the one-star review complaining about price, the rest still gave five stars.

On the Google Play charts, it has been #1,11-06 on Indonesia's Personalization Top Grossing since 11-04, and #4 on Brazil's Personalization Top Grossing. Note that both are category charts, where the bar is low. The users are Indonesian students, and at $1–3 per purchase, absolute revenue is probably not large. We can't calculate it from outside.

Who it's competing with

More important is the copycat wave within a week: DapaX Tools teased a "grafik minicraft new App" 10-31, launched 11-05; XAGameSpace pushed "Want grafik Minecraft?" on TikTok 11-06; axware released grafik MC 11-05. Cracked versions have shown up too: "Zayon Prem free (CRACK)" on MediaFire, and a Vietnamese post saying "mod zayon unlimited points". One user in the comments specifically asked the developer to crack down on the flood of cracked APKs. Piracy this widespread shows the demand is real, and also that paying users are being siphoned off.

Its weak spots

• The differentiation is thin. The core features depend on the phone's system and manufacturer drivers, and most models can't use it. Others only need to figure out the same system switches to build it too, and three copycats within a week is proof.
• The game publisher's stance is the biggest variable. Players themselves treat it as a tool for "better headshots". Someone asked in the comments "will I get banned? I'm scared to download", and a five-star review says "apk mantap akun gw kena band 10", literally "the app is great, my account got banned 10". It's impossible to tell whether that's sarcasm or a real ban. If Garena decides these visual modifications count as cheating and starts banning accounts, the whole category goes down together.
• The buzz may already be peaking. Ratings are still rising by about 200 per day, but store numbers lag, so the staying power is unclear.

If it were you

In one line: B. The demand is real and the evidence is clear, and the approach of "turning a hack into a legit store version and selling safety" is something anyone can copy. But the window is narrow, the moat is thin, and the game publisher's ban hammer hangs overhead. Copying Indonesia's Free Fire playbook as-is is already too late.

Who it suits: one or two developers who understand the Android system layer (Shizuku, ADB, graphics and display settings), ideally already part of a country's mobile gaming scene, who know a group of tweaking creators and can film tutorials in the local language.

Who it doesn't suit: anyone who doesn't touch Android internals; anyone counting on Western users paying high prices (this crowd is students, and $1–3 already feels expensive to them); anyone aiming for a long-term brand. This is a meme-driven tool that could be wiped out by a system update or a blanket ban from the game publisher at any time.

How to do it: don't copy Free Fire Indonesia. Find the next open slot with the same structure. Three directions: (1) Change market. Brazil, Vietnam and the Philippines are also big Free Fire markets. Zayon has already reached #4 on Brazil's Top Grossing, and Portuguese and Vietnamese tutorials are far from saturated. (2) Change game. Check whether the Mobile Legends, PUBG Mobile or Roblox communities have a similar "visual meme" that people achieve with hacked files. Search TikTok in the local language for "how to enable XX graphics". (3) Do what it does poorly: device coverage. Its biggest complaint is "my phone isn't supported". Whoever gets more mid- and low-end phones running it will capture those users. Monetization can follow its model: check-ins and rewarded ads for extra uses, plus a low-priced Premium.

How to acquire users: small-account TikTok tutorials are the main channel. The official account posts a teaser first. On launch day, 5–10 tweaking creators with a few hundred to a few thousand followers all post "I got it working" at once. Film a separate tutorial for each step of the pairing and activation process. Be sure to publish one video directly answering "will I get banned?". Put the term locals search for in the store name and description (Zayon uses grafik ringan and tekstur ringan), and place it in the Personalization category, where the bar is lower for charting.

When to move before the window closes: windows for meme tools are measured in weeks. For a market-change or game-change version, aim to launch before the end of 2026. Zayon and its copycats could add Portuguese and Vietnamese at any time.

What would mean you got it wrong: (1) Garena publicly declares these visual modifications a violation, or TikTok fills up with videos of accounts banned after using Zayon. The whole path closes. (2) By late November, Zayon drops out of Indonesia's category top 20 while Play installs stall just above 300k. That would mean this is a passing fad and followers can't keep up. (3) Conversely, if DapaX, XAGameSpace and other copycats each climb into the hundreds of thousands of installs, demand is bigger than it looks and the market-change opportunity is real.
