"You're driving me crazy": the PDF reader ranked #2 on Italy's tools chart is the team's #6 alias from Vietnam
What it is An Android PDF reader, scanner, and converter with ads and in-app purchases. Its features match dozens of similar apps one for one.
Why it took off It didn't take off on its own. It is the #6 alias of one Vietnamese team's PDF template, pushed up to #2 on Italy's tools chart through concentrated paid acquisition. Many users were pulled in by ads disguised as "update required" prompts, and the spend is recouped through dense ad monetization.
DHow you could follow Not recommended. What's worth learning is the market-picking method: choose European countries with low barriers on utility charts, like Italy or Poland, fully localize, concentrate spend in one country to push for a category chart, and stop if it doesn't pay back. This requires mature paid acquisition and ad monetization skills.

PDF Reader: Convert & Scan launched in August 5, reached 1.31M installs in three months, and ranked on Italy's tools free chart #2 almost every day from October 29 to November 6. Its features match dozens of similar apps one for one. It can run because the same PDF template has been published under at least 7 developer accounts, each concentrating paid acquisition on one European country, then recouping through dense ads. The business model is easy to understand, but independent developers can't realistically replicate it.
A one-star review with 386 likes
On Oct 2026 18, an Italian user left a one-star review on its store page: "Bastaaaaaaaa… You're driving me crazy now, nonstop. I tried blocking you, and it did nothing. I'm sick of it!!!!" By Nov 6, the review had 386 "helpful" votes, making it the top review on the Italian store. The second-ranked review, from Oct 14, said: "So annoying. A few days ago I opened two PDF apps. Now get lost", with 161 likes.
Other negative reviews are about the same thing. "How do I block you? You're draining me!" (10-26) "If you don't pull this app I'm reporting you" (10-31). Two more reveal how users got it installed: "I was forced to update or I couldn't watch YouTube" (10-23), "Why do I have to download TikTok?" (10-25).
These people didn't find it by searching "PDF" in the store. They were sent there from another app or a web page, after tapping an ad that looked like a "system / YouTube needs an update" prompt (inferred from the reviews).
What it is
On the Italian store page, it's called "PDF: Converti E Scansiona" (PDF: convert and scan), with an Italian title and description. Its features are standard for PDF readers: reading, highlighting and annotation, photo scanning, image and Word/Excel to PDF conversion, merging and splitting. It's labeled "contains ads", has in-app purchases at $3.29 to $39.99 each, and hasn't been updated since Oct 9.
The developer info on the store page lists a personal address in Binh Dinh province, Vietnam, and the contact email is a Gmail address with a Vietnamese name. The website is a xxxx.app-ads-txt.com subdomain, the page AdMob auto-generates for developers to host their ads authorization file. It's empty. The same developer has an AI cleaner tool (about 530k installs) and a photo recovery tool (about 100k installs). PDF, cleaner, recovery is the most common trio of Android paid-acquisition tools.
A wave-shaped curve
| Period | Total installs | What happened |
|---|---|---|
| 08-05 → 08-31 | 0 → about 2,400 | Just launched, barely any traffic |
| 09-13 → 09-18 | → about 230k | Suddenly 20k to 44k a day |
| October | → broke 1M (10-27) | 10-04 single day +68k, 10-08 +92k, 10-18 +62k, 10-21 +92k |
| 10-29 → 11-06 | 1.05M → 1.31M | 270k added in 7 days |
Source: Before late October, the figures are estimates from the third-party AppstoreSpy, useful for trends only; after that, public Google Play install counts, 11-06.
A single day jumped from a few thousand to 90k, then fell back the next day. No new version was released in between, and there's no coverage or video about it online. This is the typical shape of ads switched on and off against a budget, not word of mouth spreading (inferred).
Another number is more telling: 1.31M installs have produced only 1,928 ratings, about 0.15%. Over the last week, installs ran tens of thousands a day, but only 20 to 55 new ratings were added per day. Few people who install it actually use it.
The charts are almost all in Italy: the Tools free chart at #2 daily, and overall free apps at #2 to #5. The Taiwan Tools chart briefly reached #1 in Oct 31, then dropped to 33. Korea, the Netherlands, Poland, Turkey and Germany sat between #50 and #130. It hasn't appeared on any grossing chart anywhere.
It's not one app, it's a template
Pulling Google Play apps with package names like xxx.pdfeditor.pdfreader side by side, one group shares an identical fingerprint: the websites are all app-ads-txt.com subdomains, the emails are Gmail addresses with Vietnamese names, the privacy policies are hosted on Google Sites, and the text is the same template. The template is sloppy: one PDF reader's privacy policy mentions "incoming call flash alerts," "friend code location sharing" and "WhatsApp deleted message recovery," and the ad SDKs listed are AdMob plus Mintegral, Meta, Pangle and Unity/AppLovin. We checked 7 of them below (each developer's privacy policy page, read 11-06):
| Developer account | Launched | Total installs | 7 new in the last day | Main market |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Office Suite Pro(PDF ProX) | 2025-04 | 33M | 1.25M | Flagship |
| CoreTools Lab | 2025-11 | 1.71M | 280k | Sweden |
| LuminousByte | 2026-06 | 2.45M | 270k | Poland |
| OneTap Tools | 2026-07 | 770k | 220k | Sweden |
| OrionMobi Studio | 2026-07 | 1.84M | 260k | Poland |
| ZentrixSoft (this app) | 2026-08 | 1.32M | 270k | Italy |
| TeraSoft Limited | 2026-10 | 120k | 100k | Italy, highest Tools rank #5 |
Source: Google Play install counts, 11-06. There's also LunaraSoft, launched Oct 9, with the same package name and email format. Its privacy policy wasn't read, so it's unverified.
The playbook: after the flagship PDF ProX worked in April 2025, a new developer account was opened every month or two, under a different brand name, with the same app published again. Each account targets one country. This has three benefits: if one account gets banned, not everything is lost; one chart can hold several spots (in the Italian Tools top 25 in Nov 6, this app, TeraSoft and OneTap all appeared); and each new package gets another round of the exposure Google gives new apps. The 7 accounts together have about 41M installs, adding about 2.6M per week.
Whether there's one company behind it, or a contractor selling the same template to several Vietnamese teams, can't be determined.
Where users come from and where the money comes from
Users: nearly all bought (inferred, high confidence). There's no direct evidence. It doesn't appear in the Meta, Google or TikTok ad records we can search, but those records are incomplete anyway. Four pieces of indirect evidence: the sawtooth install curve; a 0.15% rating rate; reviews like "can't watch YouTube without updating"; and other paid-acquisition PDF vendors in the same category running install creatives on Google ads. The Italian title and description catch some search traffic, and chart exposure after reaching Tools #2 amplifies it.
TikTok, X, Reddit and the press show nothing about it. Only auto-generated listing pages such as AppBrain and Sensor Tower mention it.
Monetization: mainly ads. AdMob plus four ad networks in mediation, plus an ad-removal and premium in-app purchase. The negative reviews' "can't block it" and "nonstop" describe how aggressive the monetization is. The store page's data safety section says it may share "files and documents" with third parties. How much ad revenue it makes, or how many people buy the in-app purchases, is unknown.
Why Italy: the Tools category has a low bar, so a few tens of thousands of daily installs can hold #2 for a long time; ad CPMs are higher than in Southeast Asia, while paid acquisition is cheaper than in the US (inferred). Other accounts in this matrix picked Poland and Sweden, same logic.
Who it's competing with
PDF readers are among the most crowded Tools categories on Google Play. At the top are Adobe Acrobat (940M installs), WPS Office (830M) and CamScanner (580M). In the middle are established paid-acquisition tool makers like PDF Reader - Easy PDF (430M, +1.85M in 7 days). Below are a large batch of same-type apps launched this year: PDF Box, PDF Pilot, ApolloPDF, Stackwise Studio (also targeting Italy, Tools #11), each adding 250k to 500k every 7 days. In the Italian Tools free top 25 in Nov 6, PDF apps took 8 to 9 spots.
Android's built-in Files by Google and Google Drive can already open PDFs, for free, with no ads. This kind of app lives off users who don't know that and get scared by ads.
If it were you
One-line verdict: not worth following. It's not a product opportunity. It's a paid-acquisition cash-flow business that dozens of teams already run, and the barrier is in ad buying and monetization, not in the product.
Who it suits: teams already doing paid Android tool acquisition, with ad mediation and attribution experience, several developer accounts on hand, and the ability to accept that a package can be pulled at any time.
Who it doesn't suit: indie developers hoping to grow through product and word of mouth, or anyone without a test budget of tens of thousands of dollars. In this category you're competing against old accounts that install tens of millions of times a year, and against a matrix that opens a new account every couple of months.
If you do it anyway, how: what's worth copying is the market-selection method, not this app. Pick a European country where the Tools chart bar is low and ad CPMs are moderate (Italy, Poland, Sweden), fully localize the title, description and in-app copy, concentrate spend in that one country to push the category chart into the top 5, and use the chart exposure. Judge each wave by whether it pays back, and stop if it doesn't. There's also a narrow route in the opposite direction: build a clean PDF tool with no fake prompts, state "no intrusive ads" clearly on the store page, and catch the users these apps scare off (inferred, but you'd be competing with built-in system tools, so the room is small).
How it gets users: paid acquisition only (Google App campaigns, ad networks), targeted by country. Organic traffic is close to zero.
When to get in before it's too late: there's no window; this category has always been crowded. But if the approach relies on creatives disguised as update prompts and intrusive notifications, a crackdown from Google Play policy would clear the field all at once. How long this lasts is hard to say.
What would show this read is wrong: if daily installs held above 10k after ad spend stopped, or if the rating rate rose noticeably and longer genuine five-star reviews started appearing, that would mean the product has retention and isn't just bought traffic. If accounts in this matrix are pulled in bulk, or new accounts with the same template appear after November, that would mean the business depends on rotating accounts to evade enforcement, and the cost of following it is much higher than it looks.

PDF Reader: Convert & Scan(ZentrixSoft,com.zentrixstudio.pdfeditor.pdfreader)
Bottom line: it's up not because of the product but because it's another disguised account in a Vietnamese-run tool app matrix. The same PDF reader template is reused under a new developer account and package prefix, bought through Google app campaigns (UAC-style) and ad networks in low-CPM markets like Italy, then monetized with AdMob/Mintegral/Pangle/AppLovin interstitials, notification nagging, and $3.29–$39.99 ad-removal/premium purchases. There's essentially no differentiation; its only "uniqueness" is the distribution play and the account matrix.
1. The basics (data source: googleplay library, 2026-10-29 ~ 11-06)
- Launched 2026-08-05, category Tools, contains ads + in-app purchases ($3.29–$39.99 each, was $19.99–$29.99 before 11-05), version 1.1.6-Zentrix, not updated since 10-09.
- Cumulative global installs 1,315,221 (11-06), 7 new over 269,561 days; rating count 1,928 (about +250 over 7 days).
- Charts: Italy Tools free chart was #2 every day from 10-29 to 11-06, Italy overall free apps #2–#5; Taiwan Tools reached #1 from 10-31, then dropped to 33; Thailand Tools 10→89; Korea 29–58; the Netherlands, Poland, Turkey and Germany sat between #50–#130. No grossing chart ranking anywhere.
- Curve since launch (googleplay library app_day_ext, AppstoreSpy estimates): 8-31 only 2,391; 9-13~9-18 suddenly 2–44k a day, pushed to 230k; afterward 5k–90k a day, rising and falling in waves (10-04 +68k, 10-08 +92k, 10-18 +62k, 10-21 +92k), passing 10-27 million. This sawtooth is the typical shape of ads switched on and off against a budget, not organic word of mouth.
- Rating-to-install ratio about 0.1% (tens of thousands of installs a day add only 20–55 ratings), so users aren't invested.
- The comment sample is all Italian (the library pulls reviews by best-ranking store): positive ones are mostly one or two words like "ok", "bella", "ottimo"; negative ones focus on too many ads, being harassed: "pessimo troppa pubblicita", "troppo insistente", "Come faccio blocarvi? Mi state esaurendo!" (How do I block you? You're driving me crazy), "avete rotto… ADESSO FUORI DALLE BALLE". Two more show where users come from: "sono obbligata a fare l'aggiornamento se no non vedo YouTube" (I have to update or I can't see YouTube) and "perché scaricare per forza tik tok?" (why do I have to download TikTok?). Many people appear to have been led here by ads disguised as "system/YouTube update required" prompts inside other apps or websites. The Italian store page shows a rating of 3.8 (US store detail: 4.2).
2. Competitors
PDF readers are one of the most crowded utility categories on Google Play. Our library alone, filtering by names containing "PDF", turns up a large cluster (googleplay library, 11-06):
- Big players and veterans: Adobe Acrobat Reader (940M installs), WPS Office (830M), CamScanner (580M), Adobe Scan (260M). Android's built-in Google Files / Drive can also open PDFs.
- Established tool makers: QR Code Scanner.'s "PDF Reader - Easy PDF" (430M, 7 days +1.85M), EZTech (250M), Simple Design Ltd. (several apps at the 100M level), iKame/Begamob (94M), Trusted PDF Tools (116M).
- Same-template clones that launched in 2025–2026: Lumio Tech (2025-1.12B), Stackwise Studio (2026-25.5M, #11 in Italy Tools), PDF Box (2026-74.2M), two Radiant Retail apps (2026-08/09,190–2.8M), Reampo (2026-10.8M), PDF Pilot (2026-9.73M), ApolloPDF, AuraPDF and others, each adding 25–500k in 7 days.
- In the Italy Tools top free chart (11-06), the top 25 include 8 PDF apps: this one (#2), NB 9098 (#4), walaasaudia (#6), Trusted PDF Tools (#10), Stackwise (#11), TeraSoft (#12), Emily Yu (#15), Tankyo (#22), OneTap Tools (#25).
Bottom line: there's no functional difference. Reading, annotating, scanning, converting, merging and splitting: the descriptions are almost identical feature for feature.
3. Key finding: this is an account matrix
Comparing apps in the library with package names like *.pdfeditor.pdfreader / *.pdfreader.pdfeditor, one group of developers shares an identical fingerprint (googleplay library app table + privacy policy pages):
- The developer websites are all auto-generated AdMob
xxxx.app-ads-txt.comsubdomains (used only to host app-ads.txt for ad monetization). - The contact emails are all Gmail addresses in Vietnamese-name style (ZentrixSoft = nerinkiquoclinh@, LuminousByte = tranliuynkhai@, CoreTools Lab = lehonglamas@, OrionMobi = chungminhtu@, etc.).
- The privacy policies all sit at
sites.google.com/view/<name>-policy, and the body text is the same template: it mentions "incoming call flashlight alerts", "friend code location sharing", "WhatsApp deleted message recovery", and the ad SDK lists are all AdMob + Mintegral, Meta, Pangle, Unity/AppLovin. I checked seven of them (ZentrixSoft, LuminousByte, OrionMobi, OneTap Tools, CoreTools Lab, TeraSoft, Office Suite Pro) and they all match (privacy policy pages, 2026-11-06 reads).
| Account | Bundle ID | Launched | Installs | 7 new in the last day |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Office Suite Pro(PDF ProX) | com.trusted.pdfeditor.pdfreader | 2025-04-07 | 33M | 1.25M |
| CoreTools Lab | com.coretoolslab.pdfreader.pdfeditor | 2025-11-02 | 1.71M | 280k |
| LuminousByte | com.luminousbyte.pdfreader.pdfeditor | 2026-06-14 | 2.45M | 270k |
| OneTap Tools | com.onetaptool.pdfeditor.pdfreader | 2026-07-06 | 770k | 220k |
| OrionMobi Studio | com.orionmobi.pdfeditor.pdfreader | 2026-07-14 | 1.84M | 260k |
| ZentrixSoft (this app) | com.zentrixstudio.pdfeditor.pdfreader | 2026-08-05 | 1.32M | 270k |
| TeraSoft Limited | com.tera.pdfeditor.pdfreader | 2026-10-09 | 120k | 100k (peak #5 in Italy Tools) |
Together these total roughly 41M installs in PDF, with about 2.6M new installs a week. LunaraSoft (com.luna.pdfeditor.pdfreader, 2026-10-09) has the same package and email pattern, but its privacy policy page didn't return readable text, so it's unverified. ZentrixSoft also runs AI Cleaner (535k) and Photo Recovery (100k), the same "cleaner / recovery / PDF" utility trio.
How it works: after Office Suite Pro's PDF ProX took off, they open a new developer account every month or two under a new brand, reusing the same template. Each account picks a different main country (this one Italy; LuminousByte/OrionMobi Poland; OneTap/CoreTools Sweden; TeraSoft also pushing Italy). The benefits: spreads out account-ban risk, takes several slots on the same chart, and each new package gets fresh traffic Google gives new apps.
4. Growth tactics
- Paid acquisition (Google App ads / ad network cross-promotion): no direct evidence. Our Meta, Google and TikTok ad libraries don't track ZentrixSoft, but those libraries only cover listed products, so absence there doesn't mean no spend. The indirect evidence is strong: ① the install curve is a sawtooth that follows budget on and off; ② the rating-to-install ratio is only about 0.1%; ③ reviews like "I have to update or I can't see YouTube" and "why do I have to download TikTok" suggest users were brought in by update-prompt ads inside other apps or websites; ④ peers in the same category, like Begamob and Hypernova, have live app install creatives in the Google ad library (googleads library).
- Store search / ASO: the Italian store page has a localized title, "PDF: Converti E Scansiona", and the long description is also in Italian. The Italy Tools chart has a low bar, so chart exposure from ranking #2 amplifies the effect.
- Chart slots: the same matrix holds three places in the Italy Tools top 25 at once: this app, TeraSoft and OneTap.
- Content, creators, X, Reddit, media: nothing found (a Jina search for "ZentrixSoft" only returned store pages, AppBrain, Similarweb, Sensor Tower chart pages; x-radar shows 0 posts in the last 30 days).
- How it pays back: ads (AdMob plus Mintegral/Pangle/AppLovin mediation) plus in-app purchases at $3.29–$39.99. The negative reviews about "too many ads, notification harassment" are the monetization intensity. No top-grossing rank, so ads are the main payback.
5. How many people see it
Nobody has written about it. No media, no X discussion, no public revenue. It only appears on automated chart pages like AppBrain, Similarweb, Sensor Tower, Appfigures and StoRank. But the model itself is a public playbook in the Vietnamese and Indian tool-app scene, and the category is already saturated (see section 2), so "nobody knows about it" doesn't mean there's an opening.
6. Differentiation
No product-level difference. The real differentiator is the playbook: template reuse, a multi-account matrix, a low-bar country (Italy) for concentrated acquisition to climb Tools charts, plus aggressive ad monetization. This is why it worked, but it's easy to copy, and a large group of competitors already are.
7. What to borrow
- One template, many accounts: spreads out ban risk, rotates the main country, and takes multiple spots on the same chart.
- Pick European countries with mid-level eCPMs and a low bar on Tools charts (Italy, Poland, Sweden) as main markets, and localize the title and description.
- Prerequisite: you need ad-mediation and UA optimization skills to push CPI below the ad LTV. Small teams without that shouldn't enter.
- Risks: update-prompt disguised ad creatives, notification harassment, and sharing "files and documents" with third parties (self-reported in Data safety) all sit on the edge of Google Play's policy red lines. Accounts can be banned at any time, which is exactly why they open throwaway accounts.
8. Uncertain
- Which acquisition channels they use, CPI, and ad revenue are all unverified (the ad libraries don't track them).
- Whether this matrix is one company or a shared template/agency ecosystem (for example, one outsourcer supplying templates to several Vietnamese teams) can't be confirmed.
- In the US store detail page, the rating histogram's 2-star and 3-star counts are 0, with a fixed ratio over time. It may be a scraping artifact, so don't use it as evidence.
- The real in-app purchase conversion is unknown.
