The privacy policy got the name wrong: how an Indian app factory pushed a location app into Indonesia's top five in five weeks
What it is A free, ad-supported family location app: live map, home/school arrival alerts, one-tap SOS, roughly on par with Life360's free tier and Google location sharing.
Why it took off Indian app factory Qtonz ran several template-pack apps in parallel under throwaway accounts in the same week, bought installs in places like Indonesia and the Philippines where map-category charts are easy to crack, and recouped by segmenting users and adjusting ad frequency; with 48k installs and zero ratings, it didn't grow through word of mouth.
DWhat you can take from it Don't copy the product; copy the method: one codebase reskinned into several packages, small budgets to race them, ad frequency tuned by user segment, and find use cases Google's free features don't cover (elderly wandering alerts, school arrival notices, outdoor group tracking).
- Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-09-30 · 11-07 installs 47,955
Android · Total installs worldwide Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.
On 2026 29, a new satellite map app called GlobeNav: Satellite & Live Map showed up on Google Play. Its privacy policy link is sites.google.com/qtonz.com/zonetrackprivacypolicy, which is the name of an app that wasn't live yet. The next day, on 30, ZoneTrack: GPS Family Locator went live, with its privacy policy at sites.google.com/qtonz.com/zonetrack-privacy-policy. The developer account for one app is registered to an individual in Trabzon, Turkey. The other is registered to a small trading firm in Nizamabad, Telangana, India. Yet both privacy policies sit under the same company's domain. By Nov 6, ZoneTrack had 48K installs and ranked #5 in the Indonesia Maps & Navigation free chart. This piece breaks down who is behind it, where the traffic comes from, how the money comes back, and whether you should get into this category.
What it is
A family location app: live maps, "zones" drawn around home and school with alerts when someone arrives or leaves, a one-tap SOS that sends location to the whole family, and the option to hide from specific people. The store listing is tidy, with a whole section titled "Privacy, Consent & Background Location" that repeatedly stresses "everyone must consent to sharing" and "no tracking without the other person knowing," and explains why it asks for background location permission.
Life360's free tier includes all of these features, and Google Maps location sharing and Find Hub are free too. The store page is marked "Contains ads" and does not list in-app purchases (Google Play US listing, 11-06), so it is a free app that earns from ads. The data safety section says location and personal information "may be shared with third parties," which clashes with a listing that talks throughout about "mutual trust": a family-trust app that passes location data to third parties. Since launch it has never been updated; the "Updated on" date is still Sep 30.
Who is behind it: more than a dozen accounts under one domain
The developer account is named Sai Jyothi App, but the website field lists qzeegames.com, and the privacy policy sits on Google Sites at qtonz.com. Qtonz Infosoft is a development company in Rajkot, Gujarat, India, best known for MBit Music, a template-based short-video app with tens of millions of downloads.
Searching Google Play for these two domains turns up 15 developer accounts whose websites use qzeegames.com or qtonz-family domains, totaling roughly 86M installs (Google Play, 11-06). The account names vary widely: Code Cookies, Oregon Coast App LLC, Maxify Global, Lovo Software, NITESH, Sai Jyothi App... The emails differ, some are individuals and some are shell companies, but the websites and privacy policies belong to the same operation. So these accounts most likely form one factory's publishing channels (inference, high confidence; no company registry record directly proves the legal relationship).
The Sai Jyothi App account doesn't focus solely on location; it also holds a short-drama app, DramVix, and an IPTV player. In the same week, this factory launched several new packages under different accounts: GlobeNav on Sep 29, ZoneTrack on Sep 30, and a screen-casting app, CastBeam (7 days, +92k). GlobeNav's privacy policy links to zonetrack, showing the two are the same template with a different skin. Whichever package has the best numbers gets more budget. That's horse racing.
This factory had already done location apps: among the same accounts, Code Cookies published Phone Tracker: Family Tracker (11.7M installs) and MBit Music Inc. published Phone Tracker - Location App (410k). ZoneTrack is another new package with a new name and icon.
How the numbers grew
| Date | Total installs | new during the period | Indonesia Maps free chart |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10-29 | 13,019 | – | 157 |
| 10-31 | 18,061 | +5,042 | 22 |
| 11-03 | 35,944 | +17,883 | – |
| 11-05 | 40,595 | +4,651 | – |
| 11-06 | 47,955 | +7,360 | 5 |
Source: Google Play install counts and category charts, 11-06. Install counts refresh only every few days; new installs are totals over several days.
35k new installs in a week, more than 70% of its total. The rankings climbed together: Indonesia went from 157 to 5, the Philippines held between 7 and 11, Hong Kong from 49 to 11, Malaysia from 104 to 22, and Taiwan and South Africa were also climbing, with 18 countries and regions charting. The US, UK and Germany sit between 110 and 200.
The curve has two notable traits. First, several low-cost-to-acquire Southeast Asian markets rose at the same time, steadily, rather than the app catching on in one country and spreading out. Second, 48k installs with not a single rating or review. Users who find an app on their own will eventually leave a rating once tens of thousands have installed. Taken together, the most likely explanation is cheap paid acquisition in Southeast Asia to push the category chart (inference, high confidence). Meta and Google's ad libraries show no creatives for it, but ads that run inside other apps often don't show up there, so their absence doesn't mean there was no spend.
Also, searching its name on TikTok returns no related videos, X has had zero discussion in the past 30 days, and the web only has auto-generated aggregator pages like Softonic and AppBrain. The content-and-word-of-mouth route has not been taken at all.
Where the money comes from
Only ads. Qtonz has said this publicly. A Qtonz case study on the Google Firebase site, about MBit Music, reports that they found half of sessions weren't filling their ad slots, so they grouped users into new, returning and heavy users and used Remote Config to adjust ad frequency and placement per group: few ads on day one, shown only after a key action; heavy users went from 2 ads a day up to 3 to 4. The result was ad revenue up 4x and revenue per daily active user up 190%. Founder Piyush Kasundra's words: "When we couldn't find the right monetization approach, Firebase not only told us where the opportunity was, it gave us the tools."
The case study also has a candid line: their users are "not very willing to pay," so in-app purchases and subscriptions never took off, and they had to lean on ads. ZoneTrack's lack of in-app purchases follows the same thinking.
The math is simple: buy an install for a few cents to a dime or so in Indonesia or the Philippines (estimated), and once users arrive, serve ads by segment. As long as ad revenue per user exceeds acquisition cost, keep raising the budget. Retention and ratings don't enter the ledger.
Who it's competing with
| Competitors | Launched | Scale (Google Play, 11-06) | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Find Hub, Google Maps location sharing | For years, preinstalled | Find Hub 1.63B installs | Free, system-level |
| Life360 | Live on Play since 2010 | 227M installs, 2.5M ratings, +7k in 520 days | A real product with real subscriptions; ZoneTrack's features are a subset of its free tier |
| Findmykids | 2015 | 83.3M | Focused on children's location and smartwatches |
| Geozilla | 2018 | 29.9M | Same features, with subscriptions |
| GPS Tracker - Family Locator(Esame Marketing) | 2026-03 | 4.69M, #1 on the Vietnam Maps chart | Same name, same features |
| GPS Location Tracker Plus | 2026-04 | 2.63M installs, +7k in 910 days, #1 on Japan's map chart | A similar white-label app, growing 26x faster per week |
| Two Phone Trackers from the same factory | 2024-12 / 2026-08 | 410K / 11.7M | An older package from the same operation |
Maps-category apps launched in 2026 with names containing track, locat or family number 85 on Google Play, together adding roughly 3.91M installs this week. ZoneTrack's 35k places it in the lower-middle of that group. It can reach the charts because the Maps category charts in Indonesia and the Philippines have low thresholds, where a few thousand installs a day gets you into the top ten. It is not because it outpaces its peers.
How many people know about it
The app itself is barely known: no press, nobody posting revenue, no discussion on social platforms. But the route of "Indian and South Asian utility-app factories launching many packages under multiple accounts, buying installs in Southeast Asia, and recouping through AdMob" is a publicly known playbook in going-global circles, and location apps in this category have more than one factory running the same play.
If it were you
One-line verdict: understand it, don't copy it. It ran this far thanks to three things from one factory: a dozen-plus publishing accounts to rotate, years of tuned ad monetization settings, and the cash flow to front the cost of paid acquisition in low-cost markets. Followers can't get any of those three, and the product itself has nothing to copy.
Who it suits: small studios already shipping Android utility apps, with an AdMob payback model and several developer accounts. For you, location is just one more category in the template library. You can learn from it how to pick countries with low chart thresholds and test several packages on small budgets.
Who it doesn't suit: indie developers who have never run paid ads and are counting on organic store traffic, and anyone wanting to build a subscription product. The real-demand side is held by Life360 and Google's free features, and the white-label side already has 85 new packages from this year competing for it.
How to do it: if you do enter this category, copy the method, not the product. Two things are worth taking: one codebase reskinned into several packages, tested at small budgets at the same time, with more money going to whichever one can keep climbing the charts; and ad frequency adjusted by new-user and heavy-user segments (the approach Qtonz described publicly in its Firebase case study, usable with any ad-monetization tool). On the product side, find a use case Google's free features don't cover: elderly wandering alerts, school arrival notices, outdoor group tracking, rather than the 86th family circle app.
How to acquire users: in this category it's paid acquisition only. Start in countries like Indonesia and the Philippines, where the Maps chart threshold is low and unit costs are cheap, and work out whether ad revenue per install can cover acquisition cost. Only scale once the numbers work.
When to move: there's no clear window; this category gets new entrants every year. The Southeast Asian Maps charts are crowded with this batch of white-label apps right now, and the later you arrive, the higher the unit cost.
What would show you're wrong: if ZoneTrack stays around 50k over the next month or two and its chart rank drops back beyond #100, the factory has likely stopped spending and moved on to other packages, and ZoneTrack was just a losing horse with nothing worth following. Conversely, if it and GlobeNav grow to hundreds of thousands and start collecting ratings and reviews, the template's payback math is working, and it's worth looking again at how they handle retention.

Why ZoneTrack: GPS Family Locator (com.zonetrack.gps.family.locator) got this far

Bottom line
This isn't an indie app that grew on product or word of mouth. It's one of several "family locator" template apps that Qtonz Infosoft (the parent company of MBit Music) in Rajkot, India, published in bulk from a dozen-plus developer accounts. Launched 5 weeks ago with about 48k installs, it pushed into the top 10 of the Maps category on the Top Free chart in cheap-traffic markets like Indonesia, the Philippines and Hong Kong. The growth curve is the classic playbook: ship a new package, buy cheap installs in Southeast Asia to climb the category chart, then earn back the cost through AdMob ads. There's almost no differentiation. The real edge is the factory's ability to publish in bulk, buy traffic and monetize with ads.
1. Data (our googleplay library, 2026-11-06)
- Installs: 2026-10-29 13,019 → 10-31 18,061 → 11-03 35,944 → 11-05 40,595 → 11-06 47,955; +34,936 in the last 7 days (about 73% of the total). No rating score, no reviews (the recent_reviews field in the data card is empty), not on Top Grossing, and no in-app purchase price range found.
- Category free chart (MAPS_AND_NAVIGATION free) rank trend (chart_rank):
- Indonesia (id): 10-29 157 → 10-30 53 → 10-31 22 → 11-01 14 → 11-04 10 → 11-06 5
- Philippines (ph): from 10-29 onward, consistently ranked 7–11
- Hong Kong (hk): 11-01 49 → 11-06 11; Malaysia (my): 104 → 22; Taiwan (tw): 155 → 62; South Africa (za): 140 → 68
- Europe and the Americas: the US ranked 159–200, the UK 164–193, Germany 109–154, while Italy, the Netherlands and Australia hovered around 110–130. A total of 18 store charts.
- The chart climb happened in several low-CPI Southeast Asian countries at the same time, in a steady line, not a single market breaking out first and spreading naturally. No ratings, which says it isn't retention or word of mouth. This looks like paid acquisition.
2. Who's behind it: Qtonz's network of sock-puppet accounts (the key finding here)
- The ZoneTrack developer website is
https://qzeegames.com/, the privacy policy is hosted atsites.google.com/qtonz.com/zonetrack-privacy-policy, and the contact email is [email protected] (googleplay.app table). - In our database, 15 developer accounts list qzeegames.com or *.qtonzdev.in / *.qtonzapps.in as their website. Together they account for about 86M installs (summed by developer in googleplay.app_profile): Code Cookies (21.3M), Oregon Coast App LLC (19.4M), Maxify Global (13.2M), orbitwebsinfo (11.2M), QZEE GAMES LLP, Vuay Online Services, MBit Music Inc., Nikita Infotech, Lovo Software, PK Master, Sai Jyothi App, Austin Devs., NITESH, CabTech International and others. The account names are mostly personal names or shell company names with different emails, but the website and privacy policy domains are the same.
- The same batch includes other location-type products: MBit Music Inc.'s "Phone Tracker - Location App" (410k, +55k in 7 days, ranked 16 on the Philippines maps chart), Code Cookies' "Phone Tracker: Family Tracker" (11.7M), Oregon Coast App LLC's "GPS Tracker - Phone Finder", and QZEE's "EarthVista".
- Sibling packages launched alongside it: Lovo Software's "GlobeNav: Satellite & Live Map" launched 2026-09-29, one day before ZoneTrack. Its privacy policy address is literally
sites.google.com/qtonz.com/zonetrackprivacypolicy. It now has 45k installs, +41k in 7 days, and ranks 12 on the Philippines maps chart. The two were clearly made from the same template. On the same day (09-30), the NITESH account also published "CastBeam: Screen Mirror" (+92k in 7 days). This company releases several new packages in the same week under different sock-puppet accounts, then keeps spending on whichever one performs best. - Another app under the Sai Jyothi App account is the short-drama app "DramVix Watch Mini Movie" (2026-08-27, about 348k installs). That suggests this account isn't a specialist in one category. It's just one of the factory's publishing channels.
- Public records on Qtonz: qtonz.com lists Qtonz Infosoft Pvt. Ltd., which does mobile and web development outsourcing. Its Facebook page lists Rajkot. QZEE GAMES LLP 2024-05-21 is registered in Ahmedabad (zaubacorp). Qtonz's Apple developer page also includes AyahDeck (on Play it's under MBit Music Inc.). Google Firebase's official case study (firebase.google.com/case-studies/qtonz-mbit-music) says Qtonz used Firebase + AdMob to tier ad frequency by user segment: ad revenue grew 4x and ARPDAU rose 190%. The CEO is Piyush Kasundra. In short, this shop's core skill is ad monetization plus tuning parameters with Remote Config.
3. Competitors
| Competitors | Platform | Launched | Scale (googleplay library, 2026-11-06) | How it differs from ZoneTrack |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Find Hub (formerly Find My Device, including location sharing) | Big-company features / Android | 2013 | 1.63B installs | System-level and free, and it also covers finding devices. ZoneTrack's extras are just zone arrival/departure alerts and SOS, and Life360 already has these. |
| Google Maps location sharing | Big-company features | 2017 | Built in | No separate app to install, but no geofence alerts. |
| Life360 | iOS + Android | 2008(Play 2010) | 227M installs, 2.5M ratings, +7k in 520 days | Brand, subscriptions, crash detection, driving reports. ZoneTrack is free and ad-supported, and its features are a subset of Life360's free tier. |
| Findmykids | iOS + Android | 2015 | 83.3M installs | Specializes in kids' location tracking and smartwatches. ZoneTrack positions itself as a peer-to-peer "circle" product. |
| Geozilla | iOS + Android | 2018 | 29.9M installs | A comparable family locator, with subscriptions. |
| GPS Location Tracker Plus(Anuoluwapo Product Limited) | Android | 2026-04 | 2.63M installs, +7k in 910 days, #1 on Japan's map chart | A white-label locator of the same type, with paid acquisition at a scale more than 20 times larger. |
| GPS Tracker & Location Tracker(NAICOO) | Android | 2025-12 | 2.37M, 7 days +410k | Same as above |
| Friend Location: Phone Tracker(MG-MagicSoftGaming) | Android | 2026-05 | 1.44M, 7 days +400k | Same as above |
| GPS Tracker - Family Locator(Esame Marketing) | Android | 2026-03 | 4.69M, ranked #1 in Vietnam | Same name, same features |
| The same factory's Phone Tracker - Location App (MBit Music Inc.) and Phone Tracker: Family Tracker (Code Cookies) | Android | 2024-12 / 2026-08 | 410K / 11.7M | An older package from the same company. ZoneTrack is a new package with a new name and icon. |
There are 85 maps-category apps in the database first published in the past 2026 years with names containing track, locat or family. Together they added about 3.91M installs this week. This is a red-ocean category packed with white-label apps, and ZoneTrack sits in the middle-to-lower tier with 35k installs in 7 days.
4. Growth tactics
- Cheap paid acquisition in Southeast Asia to climb the category chart (inferred, most likely): the maps charts in Indonesia, the Philippines, Hong Kong and Malaysia rose in step. Installs jumped in big steps (10-31 +5k, 11-03 +18k). There are no ratings, no reviews, and no social media or press buzz. This matches Qtonz's model of paying back through ads. But our Meta and Google ad libraries don't track it (it isn't on the list), so no creatives can be found. There is no direct evidence.
- Mass publishing / multi-package trials (confirmed): in the same week, sock-puppet accounts such as Lovo Software, Sai Jyothi App and NITESH launched new packages including GlobeNav, ZoneTrack and CastBeam. Their privacy policies share one template (GlobeNav's address literally contains zonetrack).
- Store keyword ASO (confirmed): the title is "GPS Family Locator" and the short description is "Real-time family locator with Zone alerts and send SOS instantly". The long description is packed with search terms such as live map, zones, family circles, SOS and satellite. It also includes a dedicated "Privacy, Consent & Background Location" section to get through Google's background-location review.
- Content / creators / press: a TikHub search for "ZoneTrack family locator" found no relevant videos (the only near match was a different app, "Zone Tick"). x-radar shows 0 posts in 30 days. The web only has auto-aggregated pages from Softonic, CNET Download and AppBrain. There is no content channel.
5. Why it took off
- "Family locator" is a steady category with consistent search demand. Top products like Life360 have already educated users, so white-label apps only need to capture search and paid-acquisition traffic.
- The factory behind it has mature AdMob monetization (Firebase case study: ad revenue 4 times higher). That's why it dares to buy installs in low-cost Southeast Asian markets. A new package reached the top 10 of its category chart within about a month of launch.
- A new sock-puppet account and a new package name earn Play exposure for a fresh app, and they spread the risk of any single account being banned. Location apps are a focus of Google policy review.
- The bar for maps apps to top small-country category charts in Indonesia and the Philippines is low. A few thousand installs in a day can push an app into the top 10, and the chart position makes the momentum look bigger than it is.
6. Differentiation
Its features (live map, zone arrival/departure alerts, circle invite codes, SOS, hidden-member list) are nearly identical to Life360's free tier and dozens of white-label locators. The only selling point it highlights is "mutual consent, you stay in control". That is mainly there to pass Google's background-location policy, not a real user differentiator. Differentiation isn't why it grew. The reason is the factory's distribution and monetization capabilities.
7. Visibility and copycats
- Revenue isn't public (probably ad revenue, and it isn't visible). There's no coverage in the media or on X, and sites like TrustMRR don't list it. Few people know about it, but the "Qtonz / Indian tool-app factory buys installs for location apps" playbook is a well-known one in the app-going-global circles.
- Copying: it's hard to say who copied whom. The category already had dozens of apps built from the same template, and it's riding that same trend itself. The sibling GlobeNav from the same company is a parallel clone.
8. What others can learn
- Reskin one codebase into multiple packages, publish them under multiple accounts at the same time, test with a small budget, and scale up whichever one climbs the category chart.
- Background-location apps write a dedicated section on consent and background location in their description to pass review.
- Ad monetization is tiered by user: fewer ads on day one, more for heavy users. Qtonz publicly described this method in its Firebase case study.
9. Still unclear
- Whether it's running ads and where (our ad libraries don't track it; Google's Transparency Center can be checked for Sai Jyothi App or qzeegames.com).
- Monetization model: pure ads or subscriptions too (the iap_range field in the data card is empty; I haven't verified whether the store page has "contains ads" or "in-app purchases" labels).
- Retention: no ratings or reviews, so there's no way to tell whether users stick around.
- The legal relationship between the sock-puppet accounts such as Sai Jyothi App and Qtonz (inferred only from shared website and privacy-policy domains, with no company-registry records to confirm it).
