#6 on Thailand's tools chart with just 6,559 installs: how a Vietnamese tool pack uses phone-finder ads to shoot up
What it is A free Android find-my-phone / family location-sharing app, monetized by ads.
Why it took off A Vietnam-based tool portfolio ran 86 "find your phone" install ads on Meta, then localized the titles into Thai and Indonesian. It went from a few thousand installs a day to the top 10 of Thailand's tools chart.
CHow you could follow it Don't copy this positioning. Copy the playbook: find the lowest-barrier country and category combinations on the Google Play category charts, package an evergreen need with local language, buy cheap installs to push up the charts, and recover costs through ad mediation, provided you already have a portfolio and a monetization backend.
- Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-09-09 · 11-07 installs 357,257
Android · Total installs worldwide Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.
In Nov 5, an Android app called Phone Tracker & GPS Location reached #6 on Thailand's Google Play free tools chart. It had been live for less than two months, with 357k cumulative installs and not a single rating in the store. Its rise had little to do with product quality. It ran on a mature pipeline: several developer accounts sharing one ad-monetization backend, paid acquisition through two obscure Facebook pages, and a deliberately low-barrier country and category to push the chart. This piece explains how the pipeline runs and why copying this product isn't worth it, though its playbook is worth learning.
In Sep 17, two Facebook pages with only a few dozen followers started running ads
In Sep 9, the developer account BitShot Technology Global published the app on Google Play, version 1.1, and never updated it after Sep 15. 8 days later, two Facebook pages began running "install app" ads for it on the same day: one called "Best Free App" with 72 followers, the other "Tomorrow App" with 13 followers.
The creatives are blunt. One English video is titled "Never Lose Your Phone" with body copy "Locate Your Phone Instantly"; another set reads "Quickly Find Your Phone / Find Your Phone in Seconds"; there is also an Arabic video "تتبع موقع الهاتف بسهولة وفي الوقت الفعلي" (easily track phone location in real time), and an Indonesian one, "Lacak lokasi orang tersayang secara real-time" (track your loved ones' locations in real time). The ads ran on Facebook, Instagram, Threads and Audience Network. The two pages had 86 ads combined, and all were still running into early November (Meta Ad Library, 11-05 to 11-07).
These two pages don't promote only this one app. "Best Free App" is currently running 801 ads, also promoting a short-drama app, an AI cleaner and a sticker maker, which belong to three different developer accounts. A page with such a generic name, few followers, and ads for several companies suggests one media-buying team running a whole product portfolio, none of which has its own brand (inference, high confidence).
The curve matches the ads
| Timeline | What happened | Total installs |
|---|---|---|
| 09-09 | Launched | 0 |
| 09-17 | Two pages start running | — |
| 09-26 | 2,643 (third-party estimate) | |
| 10-01 to 10-10 | New batch of ad creatives goes live | 10-01 at 5,649 (est.) |
| 10-08 to 10-09 | +52k over two days | 77,259 (est.) |
| 10-18 to 10-27 | +180k in nine days | 294,650 (est.) |
| 11-06 | +63k in 7 days, roughly 9k per day | 357,257 (Google Play installs) |
Installs rose with the ads: ads started, volume followed a week later, and each new creative set pushed volume up another step. As of 11-06, the store's rating field was still empty; third-party sites show 0 stars from 0 reviews. Word of mouth played no role.
Its rankings on Thailand's tools free chart: #10-29, #96,11-03, #15,11-05, #6,11-06, #9, and at the same time it entered Thailand's overall apps chart at #73. It ranked #51 on Indonesia's tools chart and #198 on Taiwan's. The three storefronts used three localized titles: Thai "ติดตามโทรศัพท์ & ตำแหน่ง GPS", Indonesian "Penjejak Telefon & Lokasi GPS", and Traditional Chinese "手機追蹤器 & GPS 定位".
Why Thailand's tools chart: the barrier is low enough for a few thousand installs a day
In Nov 6, the #6 app on Thailand's tools free chart was linguakey, with only 6,559 cumulative global installs; #8 was a PDF reader at 70k. Among the top 12, 5 are PDF readers and 1 are cleaners, all packs that tool studios pushed up with paid installs. So the volume behind "top 10 on Thailand's tools chart" is probably only a few thousand Thai installs a day (est.).
Thai traffic is cheap, and eCPM (ad revenue per thousand impressions) is low too. Paid acquisition costs and ad revenue both sit at the low end, so the numbers can balance. Once on the chart, the app also picks up some extra organic traffic from chart exposure and store search. Top charts in the US or map-category apps cost far more, and the same budget wouldn't push a title up.
Where the money comes from: ads, spread across a whole portfolio
The app has no in-app purchases, and the store lists it as "contains ads". Revenue comes entirely from app-open and interstitial ads.
Its app-ads.txt file (the file where developers authorize which ad platforms may sell their inventory) directly authorizes 4 AdMob publisher accounts, plus AppLovin, Mintegral, Pangle, TopOn, Meta Audience Network, Unity and others. The app-ads.txt of another developer account, AI Photo Simple, is identical, line for line. A third account, MOBINEST (which makes a sticker maker, with a Vietnamese-named developer email), shares the same AppLovin, the same 3 AdMob accounts, and the same TopOn account (11-06 crawled).
One of the AdMob publisher accounts is directly authorized by 68 app-ads.txt files and marked "multiple owners" (well-known.dev). Among those sites is one named congtyverybigseo.netlify.app, where "công ty" is Vietnamese for "company". The likeliest explanation: a Vietnamese distribution or aggregation outfit opened one set of monetization accounts with many small studios underneath, all sharing one ad backend and one media-buying team (inference). A single pack doesn't need to earn money, as long as the portfolio as a whole balances.
Even the package name is doing SEO: gpstracker.phonetracker.gpscamera.realtime.gpslocation.familytracker, with no company prefix, just search keywords stuffed into the package name.
The same app, uploaded twice
The AI Photo Simple account first published a package in Aug 7 called Phone Tracker - GPS Location. Its package name just swapped realtime and gpslocation around, the description used the same sentence structure, and the monetization account was identical. That package reached 115k installs, charted once in 10-29, and never charted again. A month later, the same codebase was re-listed under the BitShot account, which is this app, and paid acquisition was concentrated behind it.
This is the "horse race" common among tool studios: the same product is uploaded several times under different accounts and package names, and whichever package the store favors and paid acquisition pays back best gets pushed. It also spreads the risk of account bans.
Who it's competing with: one of the most crowded categories
| Product | Scale (Google Play, 11-06) | Compared with alternatives |
|---|---|---|
| Google Find Hub + Maps location sharing | 1.63B installs, +9.49M in 7 days | Built into the system, free, no ads |
| Life360 | 227M installs, #1 on the lifestyle bestseller charts in several countries | Subscription-based, branded, with crash detection and driving reports |
| Findmykids / Geozilla | 83.3M / 29.9M | Established subscription product |
| GPS Location & Phone Tracker(QuickTools) | 16.5M, listed 2025-08 | The same Vietnamese tool-pack playbook, with nearly identical store copy; a "predecessor" in this niche |
| GPS Location Tracker Plus | 2.63M, 7 days +910k | Its weekly growth is 14× that of a comparable paid-acquisition pack |
| Phone Tracker from Friend Location / SafeNest / TNGlobal | 1.08M to 1.48M, with +270k to +400k each over 7 days | Same-category paid-acquisition packs, pushing up the charts in South Africa, Mexico and Indonesia |
7 days, 63k installs. Among the same category of paid-acquisition packs, that's mid-to-low. It ranks high in Thailand only because the pool is small, not because it's growing fast.
There's no functional difference either: shared location with mutual consent, arrival alerts, nearby places and Street View are all the same as QuickTools and SafeNest. The store copy keeps stressing "both sides must consent to every connection" and "you decide who sees your location," most likely to get past Google Play's review of tracking software (inference). The ads say something else: find your lost phone. The store page is written for the reviewer, the ads for the user.
If it were you
Quick take: C. Don't follow this one. The category is crowded and the product itself has nothing worth copying. What's worth learning is the distribution playbook: pick a low-barrier country × category chart, buy cheap installs to break in, and recover the cost through ad mediation.
Who it's for: tool-app teams that already run an AdMob / AppLovin MAX mediation stack, run install ads on Meta, and have several app packs to spread costs across. For them, this is a reference for "which store × which category is cheap."
Who it's not for: a solo indie dev trying to make money with one location app. You're up against Google's built-in Find Hub, Life360, which built its subscription into a brand, and a pile of matrix packs that use the same template but share monetization backends and a paid-acquisition team. With one pack and no matrix, ad revenue will most likely not cover acquisition costs. Location apps also have to pass Play's tracking-software policy, so they're at higher risk of removal than ordinary tools.
How to do it (if you already run a tool matrix): don't copy the location niche, copy the playbook. First find combinations on Google Play's per-country category free charts where the #10 app has under a few tens of thousands of cumulative installs (the Thailand and Indonesia tools charts are ready examples). In that country, pick an evergreen need and do the title and screenshots in the local language. Prepare the same product in two accounts' packs and rotate them.
How to acquire users: Meta install ads. Each creative pitches one pain point in one line (something like "find your phone in seconds"). One creative set ships in English, Arabic, Indonesian and other versions. Test with a small budget first, see which store's cost per install is below what the first few opens earn in ads, then scale (inference).
Timing: there's no clear deadline. Many studios already use this playbook, and the low-barrier store × category pairs get filled one by one. The later you go, the more expensive they get.
Signs we misread it: ① it drops out of the Thailand tools chart top 50 and then comes back on ratings or retention, which would mean the category has organic demand, not just paid installs; ② it adds subscriptions or in-app purchases and its ratings climb, which would mean the company is building a real product and per-pack LTV is higher than estimated here; ③ conversely, if Google Play starts removing these "location sharing" packs in large numbers in Thailand and Indonesia, the policy risk is arriving faster than expected, and this path shouldn't be taken.

gpstracker.phonetracker.gpscamera.realtime.gpslocation.familytracker - Store: Google Play, Tools (TOOLS), listed 2026-09-09, version 1.1 (no updates since 2026-09-15)

Bottom line
Neither the product nor its reputation is why it took off. This is a template pack from a Vietnamese-background tools studio, launched in a category that's already been proven (family location / find my phone). The studio runs several developer accounts (BitShot Technology Global, AI Photo Simple, MOBINEST) that share the same AdMob / AppLovin / TopOn / Mintegral monetization accounts. It buys Meta ads through two generically named Facebook pages ("Best Free App," "Tomorrow App") and does ASO with Thai, Indonesian and Traditional Chinese localized titles, which gets it into the Thailand tools chart, a very low-barrier category. Ad mediation pays the money back.

Curve since listing (AppstoreSpy estimate, googleplay library app_day_ext):
- Listed 09-09. 09-26 only reached 2,643 installs, 10-01 5,649.
- From 10-02 to 10-05 it grew to 25k within a week. From 10-08 to 10-09 it added +52k in two days (to 77,259). From 10-18 to 10-27 it grew by about 180k more (to 294,650).
- Starting at 10-29, we collected this ourselves: it steps up every 2 to 3 days (+18,902 / +23,588 / +8,058 / +12,032), with 0 in between. That stepping is how Play refreshes install counts, not a sign the growth has stopped.
Thailand tools chart rank (googleplay library): 10-29 #96 → 10-31 #166 → 11-02 #78 → 11-03 #15 → 11-04 #8 → 11-05 #6 → 11-06 #9. From 11-03 it also entered the Thailand overall app chart (#130 → #73).
The Thailand tools chart has a low bar: 11-06 Thailand tools free chart #6 is linguakey, with only 6,559 installs worldwide. #8 Lumora PDF has only 70k. Of the top 12, 5 are PDF readers, and one is a cleaner app (these are also paid-acquisition packs from tools studios). So "Thailand tools #9" roughly corresponds to a few thousand Thai installs per day.
A correction to the recall: the recall said "Penjejak Telefon & Lokasi GPS, a standalone Malay / Indonesian listing." It's actually the same pack's localized title shown in the Indonesia store. In chart_rank, the same app_id is listed in the th / id / tw stores as "ติดตามโทรศัพท์ & ตำแหน่ง GPS," "Penjejak Telefon & Lokasi GPS" and "手機追蹤器 & GPS 定位". It's not a different app.

2. Competitors
Family location / find my phone is one of the most crowded tools categories on Google Play. Big companies ship it built into the OS, the leading subscription products are mature, and dozens of studio packs are running paid acquisition on top.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Find Hub (find my device) + Google Maps location sharing | Big-company features | 2013 | Find Hub 1.63B installs, +9.49M in 7 days | System-level, free, no ads. This app just gives people who don't know these features exist a "dedicated app." |
| Life360 | Android / iOS | 2010 | 227M installs, +520k in 7 days, lifestyle top grossing #1 across several countries | Subscription, full family-safety suite (crash detection, driving reports), with a brand. This app has no subscription and is ad-only. |
| Findmykids | Android / iOS | 2015 | 83.3M installs, parenting top grossing #1 (UAE) | Aimed at parents and kids, subscription-based |
| Geozilla | Android / iOS | 2018 | 29.9M installs | Long-running family location app, subscription-based |
| GPS Location & Phone Tracker(QuickTools - Handy Utility Suite) | Android | 2025-08-27 | 16.5M installs, +115k in 7 days | The "predecessor" of the same Vietnamese tool-pack playbook. Its store copy is nearly identical ("share location after mutual consent," "place alerts"). It has already reached tens of millions. This app is a latecomer. |
| GPS Location Tracker Plus(Anuoluwapo Product Limited) | Android | 2026-04-13 | 2.63M installs, +910k in 7 days | Same-category paid-acquisition pack with 7× this app's volume. Its privacy page is also hosted at sites.google.com/view/gpslocation… |
| Friend Location: Phone Tracker(MG-MagicSoftGaming) | Android | 2026-05-19 | 1.44M, 7 days +400k | Same category, focused on the map charts in South Africa and elsewhere |
| SafeNest — Family GPS(YIXIANG) | Android | 2026-07-03 | 1.08M, 7 days +330k | Same category, focused on the Mexico tools chart |
| Phone Tracker & GPS Locator(TNGlobalSolution) | Android | 2026-05-19 | 1.48M, 7 days +270k | Same category, Indonesia maps #3, competing with this app for the Indonesian market |
| Phone Tracker - GPS Location(AI Photo Simple) | Android | 2026-08-07 | 114,990 installs (charted only once, on 10-29) | A twin pack from the same company: the package name just swaps the order of realtime / gpslocation, the description uses the same sentence structure, and the monetization accounts are identical (see below). |
Conclusion: competitors are everywhere. This app's volume is mid-to-low among same-category paid-acquisition packs (7 days, 63k; over the same period Tracker Plus had 910k and Friend Location 400k). It got recalled because it's young (2 months) and the Thailand tools chart has a low bar, not because it performs especially well in its category.

3. Growth tactics: where users come from
3.1 Meta paid acquisition (confirmed)
Our Meta ad library (metaads library app_link / ad, collected 11-05 to 11-07) shows two Facebook pages running "install app" ads for this pack:
| Homepage | Followers | Creatives for this app | First ad launched | Homepage still running ads | Other apps this homepage also promotes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Best Free App(page 1207916042414666) | 72 | 36 ads, all currently running | 09-17 (latest batch of creatives 10-01 to 10-10) | 801 ads (1,104 in total historically) | DramaGo short drama (VIGLAFICO JSC / vionyx.co), AI Cleaner (under AI Photo Simple), Sticker Creator (MOBINEST), romantic sticker |
| Tomorrow App(page 1271785352692411) | 13 | 50 ads, all currently running | 09-17 (to 09-25) | 206 ads (604 in total historically) | com.locmate.gpstracker.locationfinder, Sticker Creator (MOBINEST), PDF Reader Pro, sticker packs |
- Placements: Facebook, Instagram, Audience Network, Threads (Messenger too). CTA is INSTALL_MOBILE_APP.
- The creative copy leads with "find your phone", not "family sharing": "Never Lose Your Phone", "Locate Your Phone Instantly", "Find Your Phone in Seconds", "Track Your Lost Phone", "100% Free Real-Time GPS Location Sharing". There are also Arabic ("تتبع موقع الهاتف بسهولة وفي الوقت الفعلي") and Indonesian ("Lacak lokasi orang tersayang secara real-time") versions, so the targeting isn't just Thailand.
- The timing lines up: 09-17 first ad launch → AppstoreSpy shows traffic starting 09-23; new batch of creatives 10-01 to 10-10 → +52k over the two days 10-08 to 10-09.
- These two homepage names are generic, with single- to low-double-digit followers, and one homepage promotes several different developer accounts' apps. This is a media buying team (or agency) running the whole portfolio together, not each product building its own brand.
- Nothing turned up in the Google Ads Transparency Center or the TikTok ad library (googleads / tiktokads tables). Those libraries only track products on the watchlist, so not finding it there doesn't mean it isn't advertising.
3.2 multi-account portfolio + shared monetization backend (confirmed)
- The developer website for this app is
p852c3c27.app-ads-txt.com(a generic app-ads.txt hosting service; 980 developers in the database use it, which by itself proves nothing). But the accounts authorized as DIRECT in its file are: 4 AdMob publisher IDs (pub-3020711908526811, pub-5965765613398032, pub-6172905758741898, pub-6774503217274147), 6 to 7 Meta Audience Network IDs, AppLovin (c8b7d856…), Mintegral 24640, Pangle 69708, TopOn 16385e313a271a, plus Unity, Tappx and others. - The full set of DIRECT accounts in the app-ads.txt of AI Photo Simple (
v9a85012a.app-ads-txt.com, email [email protected]) matches exactly. This account also owns Draw Anime AR (1.02M), Control Panel (700k), PDF Reader (400k), Broken Screen prank (390k), and this app's twin package Phone Tracker - GPS Location (115k). - The app-ads.txt of MOBINEST (Sticker Creator, 770k, developer email with the Vietnamese name nguyen.nguyenthanhtruong) also lists the same AppLovin ID, the same 3 AdMob IDs, the same TopOn ID and the same Mintegral ID.
- According to well-known.dev, AdMob pub-3020711908526811 is authorized as DIRECT by 68 app-ads.txt sites, flagged as "multiple owners". Many of these sites are *.netlify.app or *.web.app, including names like congtyverybigseo.netlify.app ("công ty" is Vietnamese for "company"). This looks more like a shared monetization account run by a Vietnamese publishing or aggregation outfit, with many small studios underneath it.
- The package names follow one style: no com. prefix, just keywords strung together. This app is
gpstracker.phonetracker.gpscamera.realtime.gpslocation.familytracker; the same account'sdocument.office.pdfreader.pdfeditor…andastronatal.horoscope.astrology.tarot.ai; AI Photo Simple'squickviewpdf.pdfreader…andfakephonescreen.brokenscreenprank…. Even the package names are keyword-stuffed for store search. - "Twin packages on one app": AI Photo Simple 08-07 first launched a twin package, which only reached 115k and dropped off the charts. A month later, the same product launched under the BitShot account (09-09), and paid acquisition was concentrated behind it. This is a classic "horse race": the same codebase gets re-listed under new accounts and new package names, and whichever package gets the best store ranking and paid-acquisition payback gets pushed, which also spreads out the risk of account bans.
3.3 localized ASO + low-barrier category chart (confirmed)
- Titles are localized per store (Thai, Indonesian, Traditional Chinese), and the short descriptions are packed with GPS phone tracker, real-time location, alerts and family circles.
- In the Thai tools chart, the top 10 apps have 6,559 installs, so the bar is very low. Paid acquisition pushed it to #6 through #9, and it reached #73 overall, where it can pick up some extra organic traffic from chart exposure and search ranking.
Channels not found: 3.4
- Media, X (x-radar shows 0 BitShot mentions), Reddit, Product Hunt: nothing.
- TikTok: in the top 13 results for the Thai search "ติดตามโทรศัพท์ GPS แอป", there are no creator or official videos for this app. Similar accounts like @phonecleaner12345 and @mobilephonepositioning post "GPS location 100% free" content, but their link to this app is unverified.
- Review prompts: none. Ratings never took off.
---
4. Why it got this far ("got this far" here only means it charted in the Thai tools chart)
- Category demand is proven and ad creatives are ready-made: "find your phone / see where family is" is evergreen search demand, and QuickTools' identical copy package has already reached 16.5M installs. This team copied the playbook, so the risk is low.
- Meta paid acquisition is the main engine: two generic homepages ran 86 creatives for it, and the launch dates match the start of the AppstoreSpy traffic curve.
- Chose low-barrier markets and categories: Thai and Indonesian tools charts, where a few thousand installs a day is enough to reach the top 10. CPI is low and ad eCPM is low too, but it still pays back.
- Shared monetization backend spreads costs: one set of AdMob / AppLovin MAX / TopOn accounts serves dozens of apps, and the paid acquisition team buys for all of them together, so a single package doesn't have to profit on its own for the portfolio to break even.
- Horse-race launches: the twin package 08-07 was tested first, then relaunched under a different account 09-09.
5. Differentiation
Almost none. Its features (location sharing with mutual consent, geofence alerts, nearby places, street view) are the same as QuickTools, SafeNest and ZoneTrack. The store copy repeatedly stresses "mutual approval / voluntary and transparent", which looks more like an attempt to pass Google Play's stalkerware policy review than a selling point. The only real difference is distribution: localized titles plus a niche tools chart like Thailand's let it rank high in a small pool. So differentiation isn't why it got this far; the distribution playbook is.
6. Visibility and copycats
- Visibility: barely anyone knows about it. No public revenue, no media coverage, no discussion on X. But the category is already crowded, and "nobody knows about it" doesn't mean there's an opening.
- Copycats: strictly speaking, this app is itself a copycat. Launched after it with the same copy template ("mutual approval") is SCTV Digital's GPS Location Live Map Tracker (2026-10-2.31M installs, Vietnamese maps chart). The Thai store also has com.livemap.gpslocation.satellite.track, whose Thai copy likewise says sharing happens "after both sides approve" (launch date unverified).
7. What others can learn
- Multiple accounts + shared monetization backend + one generic ad homepage make up a complete industrialized process: one Meta homepage runs ads for packages from several accounts; the same aggregator accounts are reused in app-ads.txt; the same product is relaunched twice under different accounts and package names.
- Niche region × category chart: Thai and Indonesian tools charts need only a few thousand installs a day, so paid pushes there pay off far better than in big US or maps categories.
- Ad creatives sell the pain point (lost phone), store pages sell compliance (mutual consent): ads and store listings are written separately, so one side drives installs while the other gets through review.
- There are also negative signs: 0 ratings, and the version has stayed at 1.1, which suggests it isn't aiming for retention. Users install and leave, and LTV rests only on interstitial and app-open ads in the first few sessions.
8. Still unclear
- Targeted countries: the Meta creative details don't show the country for most ads, so the split across Thailand, Indonesia and Arabic-speaking markets is unclear.
- Whether BitShot, AI Photo Simple and MOBINEST are the same company or different studios under one publisher (the entity behind pub-3020711908526811): the monetization accounts overlap completely, but no business registration was found.
- Actual ad revenue and paid acquisition ROI: no public data.
- Why the rating never shows: possibly too few ratings to reach Play's display threshold, or the developer never triggers an in-app review prompt. Not verified.
