Watch the video, then install the app: an India-built one-person cloud drive, 58k installs a month

What it is A cloud drive plus player built by an Indian developer offering "1 TB of free storage". In practice it's a video-sharing drive that pays uploaders per play, where viewers must install the app to watch. Uploads go through a Telegram bot.

Why it's taking off Telegram resource-channel admins want to earn from plays, so they post their videos as FileNext links. Viewers can only watch inside the app, so they install it. The bot needs no sign-up, forwarding a post swaps in your own link, and TeraBox keeps getting blocked in India while channels are looking for a new drive. FileNext caught that migration traffic.

CHow you could follow it Don't go head-to-head with TeraBox in India. Pick a market where the revenue-share drive hasn't saturated yet, or move the structure ("opening the link requires the app + revenue share to distributors + automatic link swapping on forward") onto compliant content like courses, short drama, or assets.

C-grade: the same play in India already includes TeraBox (458M installs), DiskWala and TenBox. Traffic depends on piracy and adult content, which can be taken down at any time, and you have to front the payouts. Revenue is unproven. What's worth learning is its distribution structure. Copying the product itself isn't worth it. Nobody knows about it yet

Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.

In November 3, a user called qv***s shared a 386 MB .mkv file on FileNext. The share page shows only the filename, the size and a cover image, plus one line: "Tap Play and the video opens in the app". Tapping play sends you into the app. These links now appear in batches across Indian Telegram movie channels, labelled "Download Link 480p / 720p". The channel admin posts a link, and the people who click it go to Google Play and install the app. FileNext launched on Google Play in October 4, and by November 6 it had 58,530 installs. The store page never mentions making money, but it is effectively a user-acquisition machine that pays out to uploaders.

What it is

On the store page it's "1 TB of free cloud storage + universal player + file viewer". The player uses VideoLAN's libVLC and supports MKV, HEVC, subtitles, playback speed and picture-in-picture, with a Mac app and a web version. The developer is listed as Sabnode, and the terms of service name FileNext of Jaipur, India as the operating entity. The Mac app is credited to an individual developer, Shakti Singh.

The earnings rules are in the Earnings section of the terms of service. Every "valid play or download" of a file you share earns you a dollar credit, with the rate depending on the viewer's country. You can withdraw at $10, via PayPal, USDT or India's UPI, and earnings show up in the Telegram bot. A separate acceptable-use policy bans inflating plays, watching your own files, and autoplaying through hidden iframes. Only platforms that pay uploaders per play need to write rules like these.

This business has existed in India for a while. TeraBox and DiskWala both run "drive + per-play payouts + viewers must install the app". FileNext came later.

It has only charted in the Productivity category on the free chart: UAE 73, India 98, Saudi Arabia 117 (11-06), and occasionally Singapore's top 200. It has never reached the overall chart in any country, and it has no ratings yet. India plus the two Gulf countries with large Indian migrant worker populations is exactly the audience for Hindi-language Telegram movie channels.

Installs come from other people placing its links. The chain works like this:

1. Uploaders get paid. Channel admins send videos to the Telegram bot @filenextbot. The account is created from the first message, with no email or password. The bot replies with a share link and a card with a cover and a "Watch on FileNext" button that can be pasted straight into a channel.

2. Viewers can only watch in the app. The share page doesn't play in the browser. Viewers have to install the app and sign in. So every extra valid play in a channel probably means one more install on Google Play.

3. Forwarding swaps in your own link. This is the biggest difference from TeraBox and DiskWala. If you forward a post containing someone else's FileNext link to the bot, the bot saves a copy of each file to your drive and sends the post back with every link replaced by yours (filenext.in/telegram). Channels already repost content from each other, so every repost now sends more viewers to install the app.

Where to find the locker links: on Telegram, a channel called "MovieWalaX Terabox Collection" posts "1080p - filenext.in/s/…"; the "Movie fan RK boy" channel posts two tiers of 480p and 720p links; TGStat lists the "FileNext Insta" channel under the adult category, and its Nov 4 posts have reached #7258, all of them FileNext links. On Facebook and Instagram, people also post filenext.in/s/ links in their posts, including Urdu-language posts and a "full season" of the Indian animated series "Brahmyodha". On YouTube, an Oct 21 Hindi tutorial titled "TeraBox Se 10X Jyada Earning?" (10X more earning than TeraBox?) got only 32 views in two weeks. It looks like it was posted by the official team or an early promoter.

Timing has helped it too. India has been tightening controls on Telegram, TeraBox links and piracy sites for 2026 years, and in October the Delhi High Court blocked 63 more piracy sites (Medianama 10-21). Resource channels have to keep switching to new drives that haven't been blocked yet. Some channels are still called "Terabox" but now post FileNext links, which is how the migration happened (inferred).

No ads from it found in the ad libraries (this only means none turned up in our search). No one has mentioned it on X in the past two months, and there's no press coverage.

Where the money comes from

Viewers pay. Free users watching shared videos only get SD (below 720p). Premium unlocks HD and original-quality downloads, and "quality depends on the viewer's plan, not the sharer's". Pricing is $1.99/month and $19.99/year. Google Play shows in-app purchases on the Android app from November 1, and there are ads in the app. The terms still say "Google Play in-app purchases coming soon", so that wasn't updated in time. Revenue hasn't been disclosed, so there's no way to tell yet.

Costs are kept very low. Cover images on the share page are served straight from Cloudflare R2, and R2 charges no egress fees. Free viewers only get SD, so one person can afford to shout "1 TB free." The biggest expense is payouts to uploaders, and nobody has verified the per-unit rate or whether they pay on time.

Who's competing

CompetitorsScale (Google Play installs, 11-06)How it differs
TeraBox458M, 7 days +1.75M, #1 in India Tools Top GrossingBoss. Official revenue share. Lots of ads and throttling, and its links keep getting blocked in India.
DiskWala21.2M, 7 days +200kAlso a Telegram bot that does uploads and pays per play, and publicly posts payout screenshots. It's the direct comparison.
TeleDisk / TeleBox16.8M, 7 days +23kTelegram-focused drive with a revenue share. Growth has slowed.
TenBox185k, +19k in 7 daysNew entrants launched in February; FileNext came 8 months later and is adding users at twice the daily rate in 7 days
PikPak3.3MOffline downloads plus cloud playback, aimed at East Asia. Doesn't pay uploaders.

No one is copying FileNext. It's copying TeraBox. Where it beats the competition is on the uploader side: no sign-up, links swapped on forward, the "earn more than TeraBox" pitch, plus a fresh domain that hasn't been blocked yet. The real player, the Mac app, the help center and the store page that doesn't mention earnings are mainly there to get through review and avoid takedowns. They aren't why users come. Competitors can copy all of this, so it has no moat.

If it were you

Verdict: C. Building an India "revenue-share drive" isn't worth it. The category already has TeraBox at 458M installs, plus DiskWala, TenBox and others. Traffic relies on pirated movies and adult content, which can be taken down or have their domains blocked at any time. You'd also have to pay out real money upfront, and revenue is still unproven. What's worth taking is the distribution structure.

Best for: Teams already working in Telegram and resource distribution who have existing channel-admin relationships and can absorb takedown and payout risk.

Not for: Indie developers who want a long-term product, have only one developer account, won't touch copyright or adult content, or can't afford to front payouts.

How to do it (if you do): Don't head-to-head with TeraBox in India. Two options: (1) move to a market where a TeraBox-style revenue-share drive hasn't saturated and Telegram resource communities are active, such as Indonesia, Bangladesh or the Arabic-speaking Middle East (inferred; competition in these markets not verified); or (2) move the structure ("app required to open links + revenue share to distributors + forwards swap in your own links") onto compliant content such as courses, short drama, game mods or wallpaper assets, where people already share files in groups. Store files on object storage with zero egress fees, and downgrade free-tier quality so bandwidth costs stay manageable.

How to acquire users: Don't acquire through the store. Acquire uploaders first. Let the bot open an account from the first message, and get channel admins to see earnings and withdraw within their first week. Then let them do the distribution. Publishing "how to earn with X" tutorials in local languages on YouTube is the classic way these products recruit uploaders.

Timing: Resource communities switch drives as blocks happen, so the window is measured in months. This India wave is already being captured by FileNext and TenBox. To enter a new market, you'd need to launch within six months.

What would show this was the wrong call: (1) FileNext passes a million installs within three months without being taken down, and channels publicly post its payouts. That would mean the space is bigger than estimated and newcomers can still win uploaders, so the C grade underestimated it. (2) Google Play removes it before year-end, or its installs flatline. That would mean platforms clean up these drives faster than expected, and building in another market is just as risky. (3) A product built on the same structure takes off in compliant content. That would mean the transferable move is real and worth prioritizing.

Why FileNext: Cloud Drive & Player (in.filenext.app) took off

Channel: Google Play | Developer: Sabnode (operated by FileNext, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India; Mac app credited to Shakti singh) | Store launch 2026-10-04 | Research date 2026-11-06

Bottom line

It didn't take off as a "cloud drive product." It's a TeraBox / DiskWala-style resource distribution machine: upload video, pay uploaders by play count, and force viewers to install the app to watch. Admins of Indian Telegram movie and adult channels use the FileNext bot to turn videos into filenext.in/s/ links and post them. Every viewer who taps a link is sent to the Play Store to install the app, so installs track how many channel posts carry the links. The edge is making the model minimal: zero signup plus one-tap forward-and-swap, with a "earn more than TeraBox" pitch. It moved in during a window when TeraBox and Telegram were repeatedly blocked in India and piracy communities were looking for replacements.

That looks like a few large channels posting in waves, or a batch of new links after old ones got blocked, not the smooth curve of paid ads or store search.

India plus the Gulf states overlap with South Asian migrant worker communities, which matches the audience of Hindi Telegram resource channels.
  • No rating count and no Top Grossing entry. Play data shows in-app purchases of $1.99–$19.99 (subscriptions $1.99/month, $19.99/year), but the website still says "Android in-app purchases coming soon." Whether there's real revenue is unverified.
  • Mac version of FileNext: Cloud Drive & Player listed on the Mac App Store 2026-10-19, rating 0 (iTunes lookup id 6819375603). No iPhone or Windows version yet.

II. What it actually is: the payout engine hidden in the terms

The store page and homepage pitch it as "1 TB free cloud drive + libVLC universal player + file viewer" (play.google.com listing, filenext.in). The real growth driver is written elsewhere:

  1. Uploaders get paid per play. The "Earnings" section of the terms credits USD to uploaders for "validated views and downloads," with the rate set by viewer country; "up to" is the top-rate country. Withdrawals start at $10 via PayPal, USDT (TRC20/BEP20), or UPI, paid after manual review; earnings are viewed in the Telegram bot (filenext.in/terms). The acceptable-use policy has a whole section banning view inflation, bought traffic, self-viewing, and hidden auto-playing iframes (filenext.in/acceptable-use). Only a platform that pays uploaders per play needs to write that. The store listing, homepage, and pricing page never mention earning money. It only appears in the terms and the bot.
  2. Viewers must install the app. The share page filenext.in/s/… shows only file name, size, and cover, with "Plays in the FileNext app / Tap Play and the video opens in the app" (tested at filenext.in/s/b1f5c4bf…, a 386 MB .mkv). The FAQ also states "links play in the free FileNext App, login required the first time." So each valid play ≈ one Play install + one signup.
  3. Viewer-side monetization: free users watching shared videos only get SD (below 720p). HD and original-quality downloads require Premium. And "quality depends on the viewer's plan, not the sharer's" (filenext.in/pricing). It's the same hook as TeraBox's speed throttling that pushes people to pay, just with quality as the lever.
  4. The Telegram bot @filenextbot is the upload side. The first message creates an account, with no email or password. Send a video and get back a share link plus a card with the cover and a "Watch on FileNext" button, which you can add headers and footers to and post straight into a channel. Forward a post containing a FileNext link and the bot saves each file as your own copy and sends the post back with the links replaced by yours. It also supports remote upload from direct links (filenext.in/telegram).

The last point is the key one. A channel admin sees someone else's FileNext post, forwards it, and it becomes their own paying post. Content replicates across channels, and each copy sends a new batch of viewers to install the app.

III. Where the users come from (evidence)

Google Drive / OneDrive, etc.Big-company features—Tens of billionsNot the same market: no paying uploaders, no pirated distribution

No copycat chasing FileNext found; it is itself a follower in this space.

5. Why it took off

  1. Growth comes from other people spreading its links: uploaders, paid by playback, spread filenext.in/s/ links across Telegram movie and adult channels (MovieWalaX, Playboxhub, OTT CENTRAL, FileNext Insta, etc.). Viewers can only watch inside the App, so they install it. The install curve's step shape matches channels posting links in waves.
  2. Forward-to-relink copies content automatically between channels: when someone forwards a FileNext post to the bot, it becomes their own link. Channel admins moving content around are, in effect, bringing in new users for FileNext, and that is easier than TeraBox or DiskWala's manual uploads.
  3. Zero-friction signup plus multiple withdrawal methods: an account is created from the first Telegram message, withdrawals support UPI (India) and USDT (for uploaders who can't use regular channels), with a minimum of $10. Resource channel admins care about exactly this.
  4. Timing: through 2026 India kept tightening against Telegram (blocked to 6/22 during NEET, per Reddit r/CBSE), TeraBox links ("blocked by court order" tutorial videos), and piracy sites (a Delhi High Court October order blocked 63 sites, per Medianama 2026-10-21). Resource channels need fresh, unblocked storage domains all the time, and a new drive with a clean domain catches the migrating traffic. The "TeraBox collection" channel starting to post FileNext links is evidence of that migration.
  5. Cost structure a solo developer can carry: share-page covers are served straight from Cloudflare R2 signed URLs (…r2.cloudflarestorage.com/filenext/…). R2 charges no egress fees, and free users get SD only, so video bandwidth costs are kept very low. That's why one person can afford to promise "1TB free".

VI. What the differentiation is, and whether it's why it took off

  • Compared with TeraBox or DiskWala, FileNext looks cleaner on the surface: a real libVLC player, viewing for dozens of file formats, a native Mac app, a proper help center and policy pages. Nowhere on the store listing does it say "earn money", so it looks like a legitimate cloud drive. That packaging exists to get through Play and App Store review and lower takedown risk. It is not the reason users come.
  • The real differentiator that made it take off is on the distribution side: a Telegram bot with no registration, auto-relinking on forward, posted cards with a built-in "Watch on FileNext" button, and a payout pitch of "10x TeraBox". Together these make switching almost free for channel admins.
  • On the viewer side it monetizes with "free SD, paid HD", not TeraBox-style ad-filled pages and throttling, so the experience is relatively better. But that's a retention question, and the current data (no ratings) can't show whether it works.

So: the differentiation (easier for uploaders, new domains not yet blocked) is why it took off, but that differentiation is easy to copy, and the moat is shallow.

7. How many people have seen it

  • Revenue is not public: no TrustMRR listing, no founder sharing numbers. There are 0 discussions on X, no media coverage, and the YouTube promo video has 32 views. Almost no one in product or startup circles knows about it.
  • But the category it sits in (India's "earn money uploading videos" drives) is already crowded: TeraBox, DiskWala, TeleDisk, TenBox, and many YouTube "earn money with X drive" tutorials. So "nobody knows it" is about the FileNext brand, not the playbook.

8. What others can learn from it

  • Let B-side users (uploaders and channel owners) distribute for you, and C-side users (viewers) install for you. In link-consumption scenarios, "you must install the App to open the link" is the cheapest acquisition there is, provided you give distributors an ongoing economic incentive.
  • Put your upload entry point where distributors already are (here, a Telegram bot), and build features like "forward and it becomes your own link" that let content replicate itself.
  • Control video bandwidth cost with zero-egress storage (Cloudflare R2) plus a free tier with lower quality.
  • Describe only the tool features on the store listing, and keep the earning mechanics in the bot and the terms to lower review risk. (That is also a platform policy risk point, so copiers should think it through.)

9. What I'm still unsure about

  • How much is paid per thousand plays ("10x TeraBox" is only a YouTube title), and whether payouts are actually honored: unverified.
  • How much traffic comes from pirated films versus adult content; Google Play's takedown risk for this kind of "share to earn" drive with copyright or adult content; and whether the two stalls in growth (10-25~10-28 and 11-04~05) were caused by links or the bot being blocked: unverified.
  • Whether Android in-app purchases have actually gone live and what the conversion rate is: unknown.
  • Whether it is also running Facebook/Instagram ads (we only track Meta ad library for products on our list): not found.
  • The developer Shakti Singh's background (many people share that name on LinkedIn): unverified.
