Customize Emoji Battery Icon · 368 Phuc Minh Investment

A Hanoi construction consulting firm sold 100k "emoji batteries" in two weeks: this isn't a product, it's an ad-buying machine

What it is A free tool that swaps the Android status bar battery icon for emojis and cute stickers. It draws its overlay using the accessibility permission and earns entirely from ads.

Why it took off Not because the product is good. A Vietnamese template studio reskinned an already-proven category and launched a new package. It bought traffic in two batches by budget (13k a day, dropping to 1 thousand after the spend stopped), then propped up its 4.4-star rating with guided reviews.

CHow you could follow Indie devs shouldn't build a plain battery reskin. If you really want in, build "emoji battery + screen pet/character", or a compliant iOS version (Dynamic Island or charging animation). Cap ad frequency at a level users will tolerate, and test payback with a small budget in cheap countries first.

Grade C: the demand is real, but the category already has 20+ copycat packages and 15M installs at the top. It is itself a follower, and its payback comes from ready-made ad buying and ad monetization pipelines. A small team following it has no edge. What's worth learning is the playbook and the warning signs. Few people know about it yet

On Android, a small category has already been run into the ground: swapping the battery icon in the status bar for emojis, kittens and stickers. In October 21, a developer account tied to a Vietnamese construction consulting firm dropped another new package into it. It hit 100k installs in two weeks and charted in the personalized free charts of 13 countries. Below: how it took off, where the money comes from, what's left in this category, and whether you should get in.

A "maybe it's fake" review

In Nov 5, a Google Play user named yuji farajh left a note on Customize Emoji Battery Icon:

I don't know if it's fake but it's good. ("I don't know if it's fake, but it's good.")

That line is pretty much the whole app. The store page says it plainly: change the battery icon, change the status bar, add an emoji battery widget; "pick an emoji you like → preview → apply." To draw stickers on the status bar, it asks you to turn on the accessibility permission, and the store page even includes a YouTube Shorts video showing how. No in-app purchases, only ads.

The developer is listed as "368 Phuc Minh Investment." The website it links, 368phucminh.online, opens to the homepage of a Hanoi construction investment consulting firm, and the company shows up in Vietnam's business registry (tax ID 0110704626). The same account has 11 other apps: document scanner, image-to-PDF, translation, 3D earth, pet translator, piano, guitar, voice lock screen, land measurement... all common paid-acquisition categories. They started launching 2026 years ago, and together they total about 1M installs (AppBrain). Opening accounts under an unrelated company and mass-producing template apps is a common practice among Vietnamese app studios.

How it grew: two switches

Cumulative installs since launch (before 10-28 is third-party estimates, after that is Google Play daily observation):

DateTotal installsDuring this period, roughly per day
10-21Launched
10-23About 16k16k in the first two days after launch
10-26About 30k4,000–6,000
10-28About 31kNearly stopped, about 360
10-3171kAbout 13k
11-0297kAbout 13k
11-05100kAbout 1,000

Two step changes, with the period in between and after nearly flat. Organic search traffic doesn't switch on and off like that. The shape points to budgeted ad buys in batches (inferred). I found no direct ads for it in the Google, Meta, or TikTok Europe ad libraries, and some installs may have come from cross-promotion with other apps on the same account.

The charts followed: around 10-29 it peaked at Sweden personalized free #30, Vietnam #36, and US #73. Once spending stopped, around 11-05 it fell to Vietnam 129 and US 171. 11-06 Vietnam jumped back to 47, with 97 new ratings that day. A third round may have started. Wait a few more days to confirm.

How the 4.4 rating came about

In October 29 it had 31k installs and 1,373 ratings, a rating rate of about 4.4%, absurdly high for a utility app. The distribution is stranger still: 5 stars 1,029, 4 stars 193, 3 stars 107, 2 stars 42, and 1 stars 0. Among more than a thousand ratings, not one is 1 stars. There's basically only one explanation: the app first shows a "Do you like it?" prompt and sends only the people who tap "Like" to the store to rate (inferred; the exact method is unverified). After that, real users come in and the 1-star count climbs from 0 to 11-06 with 98 ratings.

What real users complain about is clear from sister apps in the same category. Vietnamese studio STARVIA's similar app got one-star reviews in the US store in October, and almost every one says the same thing:

"You have to watch a million ads just to install this junk, and they take up half the screen." (US store, 10-11,31 people found it helpful) "The moment I opened it I was hit by 17 ads, so I uninstalled right away without even seeing what the app looks like." (US store, 10-17) "First time I opened it, it made me install another fake PDF app." (US store, 10-12)

Taiwanese users' complaint about another top package was that its flag option was a five-star flag. The product quality of this kind of app is roughly like that.

Where the money comes from: thin, so it depends on volume

There are no in-app purchases, so revenue comes entirely from ads: app-open, interstitial, and a prompt on each preview and theme application. The problem is that users stop opening the app once they've changed their battery icon, so only the first few sessions show ads. The business math therefore has only one logic: in cheap-acquisition countries like Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines and Malaysia, buy installs below what ad revenue can recover and make it up on volume. If it doesn't pay, stop spending and switch to the next package (estimated; no public data on its ad revenue).

The first observed version numbers went from 10.0,11-03 to 11.0, and 11-04 to 12.0. The code was copied from elsewhere, not written from 1.0. When costs are this low, a failed run isn't painful.

Who's competing: this category was already crowded

It isn't the first, and it isn't the biggest. Searching Google Play for apps with battery + emoji in the name (11-06):

These are only some. There are 20+ similar packages, and their package names follow nearly the same template: com.cute.emoji.battery.icon.widget.customize.emojisticker.statusbar, ai.starvia.emoji.battery.icon.statusbar.sticker.customize... They very likely come from the same source code (inferred). This app added +69k in 7 days, only a sixth of the leader.

Competitors are openly buying ads. In the Google ad library, HYPERNOVA LIMITED has been running install ads for Ahc Foundation's emoji battery package since 10-13. In the TikTok Europe ad library, LUTECH has been advertising Battery Emoji Buddies for STARVIA since 11-02.

The demand is real, and it's old. The "iPhone emoji battery" meme was already big on TikTok in 2023: an iphonnation tutorial on adding emojis to an iPhone battery got 2025-02-17 12.4M views, and a selene0947 video from 2023 got 7.76M. The Android seller account gpsarea68 posted an "Emoji battery app" video with 8.69M views. The top two apps are each still gaining roughly 400k a week, so this traffic is far from exhausted. It's just already been split up.

Where it falls short

There are two openings, but people are already working on both:

  • Emoji battery + screen pet: ZAppsolution, Tools for Everyday and SHINK have already merged the emoji battery with Shimeji desktop pets that walk around the screen. Growth is better than pure battery packages.
  • iOS: Apple doesn't let apps modify the status bar, so you can only build widgets, charging animations, Dynamic Island-style features. The App Store already has Emoji Battery Charging, promoted by HYPERNOVA.

What's left, "fewer ads and fewer permissions," is what users actually want. But in a business that runs on ad revenue, fewer ads means less income.

If it were you

C: worth learning from, but following it isn't worth it. It proves how efficient a Vietnamese studio's buying machine is. It doesn't show there's still room here.

Who it suits: studios that already have an ad-buying team, a template-app pipeline, access to cheap installs in Southeast Asia, and ad revenue to cover costs. For them it's one more template category to add to the portfolio, though they'll be competing with 20+ similar packages for the same keywords and the same cheap traffic.

Who it doesn't suit: indie devs and small teams. Without existing buying capacity or ad monetization tuning, your package is number 21 here. Relying on organic store search, anyone who searches "emoji battery" sees the two 15M-install apps first.

If you must build: don't make a pure battery package. Move toward pets or characters (the Shimeji combo already works, but character IP and holiday themes still have room to segment), or build a compliant iOS version (Dynamic Island, Live Activity, charging animation). Cap ad frequency at a level users will keep using, and target the group in the bad reviews who think it's cute but has too many ads.

How to acquire users: this category has two traffic sources, store keywords (cramming emoji / battery / statusbar / sticker / cute into the package name and title) and paid buying. Demand on TikTok is constant, but most of the videos that drive volume are ads from merchant accounts. Test in cheap countries like Vietnam or the Philippines with a small budget first, work out the cost per install and how many ads each user will see, and don't add money if it can't pay back.

When to get in: there's no clear window. The category has been hot since spring and is still growing weekly, but new packages enter every week too. If you try, the year-end holiday themes (Christmas, New Year) are the nearest creative moment.

Signs you've misjudged it: ① the top two's weekly new installs fall from 400k to below 100k. Demand is declining, so don't enter. ② This app keeps gaining several thousand a day steadily without a new step change. That would mean organic volume is bigger than we thought, and even a pure reskin can capture search traffic. ③ A similar package with fewer ads, plus a subscription or one-time purchase, reaches the top without obvious spending. That would mean people will pay for a better version, and that's the opportunity for indie devs.

Where users come from
  • Inferred Paid acquisition (on/off spend): AppstoreSpy estimate + Google Play observations: 2 days live, 16k installs; 10-29–11-02 averaged 13k/day, then dropped to about 11-03k/day by 1 thousand; the ranking fell with it, from VN 36 / US 73 down to VN 129 / US 171. This app is not on the ad library lists, and no specific platform has been found.
  • Confirmed Category peers' paid acquisition (benchmark): googleads: HYPERNOVA LIMITED runs install ads for Ahc Foundation's Emoji Battery pack (from 10-13); tiktokads: LUTECH runs ads in Europe for STARVIA's Battery Emoji Buddies (from 11-02)
  • Inferred Incentivized reviews / fake reviews: at 10-29 with 31k installs there were 1,373 ratings (4.4%), and the histogram showed 1 stars at 0; later real 1-star ratings rose to 98
  • Confirmed Store search (keyword package name): the package name io.battery.widget.statusbar.customemojibattery.cute.emojisticker is stuffed with search terms; best rank on Vietnam's local personalized chart was #36
  • Inferred Cross-promotion within the same developer: the same account has 12 paid-acquisition apps in other categories (document scanner, voice lock screen, each with 2–110k downloads in recent months, AppGazers estimate), which can promote each other
  • Inferred TikTok content: "emoji battery" has been an evergreen TikTok topic since 2023, with brand-account videos getting 480k–6.65M views each; no video naming this app was found

Why Customize Emoji Battery Icon (368 Phuc Minh Investment) got traction

Google Play package io.battery.widget.statusbar.customemojibattery.cute.emojisticker, category PERSONALIZATION, first listed on 2026-10-21. Research date 2026-11-06.

Bottom line

It is not an app that succeeded on its product. It is a new package from a Vietnamese "template clone factory" that piggybacked on an already proven niche (Android "emoji battery / status bar sticker", where the leaders have 15M-install products and 20 copycat packs). On day 2 it had about 16k installs, rose from 10-29 to 11-02 to about 13k a day, then fell sharply by 11-03 to about 1 thousand a day. That is the classic "start spend, stop spend" curve. The growth came from paid acquisition and cross-promotion. The product itself has no differentiation.

Two "steps" (10-21–10-26, 10-29–11-02), with near-zero installs between and after them. Organic search traffic does not switch on and off like this; this shape matches budget-batch spending (or concentrated traffic from the same developer's other apps). On 11-06 the Vietnam rank jumped back from 129 to 47, with 97 new ratings that day, possibly a third round running, unverified.

Anomalous ratings: at 10-29 (31k installs) there were already 1,373 ratings, a rating-to-install ratio of about 4.4%, and the histogram was [1 stars 0, 2 stars 42, 3 stars 107, 4 stars 193, 5 stars 1029]. Out of 1,373 ratings, not one was 1 stars, which is abnormal. Later the 1-star count rose from 0 to 98 (11-06), meaning real users who came later left negative reviews (common complaints: it asks for accessibility permission and has too many ads). The early ratings most likely came from strong in-app prompts for good reviews (asking "do you like it?" and only sending happy users to the store) or from fake reviews. The exact method is unverified.

2. Developer: Vietnamese clone factory

  • The developer website for "368 Phuc Minh Investment", 368phucminh.online, is the official site of a construction investment consulting company (Construction Investment Consultation). It corresponds to the Vietnamese company "CÔNG TY CỔ PHẦN TƯ VẤN ĐẦU TƯ XÂY DỰNG 368 PHÚC MINH", tax code 0110704626, in Hanoi (masothue.com, chogia.vn). In other words, the developer account sits under a shell company unrelated to the app, the "borrow a company to open an account" practice common among Vietnamese app studios.
  • The same account has 12 apps, all common paid-acquisition categories: document scanner, image-to-PDF, translation, live Earth 3D maps 3D, pet translator, piano, guitar, voice lock screen, land area measurement, HD camera, photo music video. (Google Play developer page; AppBrain: 12 apps, started 2026 years ago, about 1M installs total.) AppGazers estimates the whole portfolio had 50k–300k downloads from late September to early November, with in-app purchase revenue close to 0.
  • The package naming style (io.xxx, ai.xxx, keyword strings) closely matches other Vietnamese packs in the niche: com.cute.emoji.battery.icon.widget.customize.emojisticker.statusbar (New Widget Co.), ai.starvia.emoji.battery.icon.statusbar.sticker.customize (STARVIA), life.growly.emoji.battery.icon.statusbar.sticker.customize (Growly), com.omgbros.emoji.battery.icon.statusbar.sticker.customize (OMG! Bros). A high chance they share the same source code or the same outsourcing shop reskinning the app (inferred).
  • The first version number is 10.0, which also shows the code was carried over from another project, not written from 1.0.

Older "ancestors" too: on TikTok back in 2024-12 / 2025-02, accounts like gpsarea68 were promoting "Emoji battery app" (8.7M views), and old battery widgets like Battery Widget Reborn (20.1B). On iOS the system doesn't allow changing the status bar, so apps are limited to widgets and Dynamic Island style features; the App Store has HYPERNOVA's "Emoji Battery Charging" (id 6803819743) and similar. Among big companies, Samsung Good Lock and MIUI/HyperOS themes can change battery icon styles, but they don't support emoji stickers.

Within this field, this app ranks mid-to-low in scale and its growth is not outstanding: 7 days, +69k, only a sixth of the leader (+400k). It is not the first, not the biggest, and has no unique feature: its feature list (swap battery icon, status bar stickers, emoji battery widget, overlay drawn via accessibility permission) is identical to every other pack in the niche.

4. Growth tactics

Paid acquisition (most likely Google App Campaigns / ad networks)The install curve has two on/off steps (10-21–26 averaging 4–6k/day, 10-29–11-02 averaging 13k/day, then falling to 1–1.6k). It reached 2k within 16 days, which organic traffic cannot do.Shape-based inference. This app is not on our ad list, and Meta / TikTok (Europe) / Google ad libraries show no record of it, so this cannot be directly confirmed.
Category peers are all buying adsGoogle ad library: HYPERNOVA LIMITED runs install ads for Ahc Foundation's Emoji Battery Icon, Smiley Battery, and an iOS version (from 10-13). Store search / keyword stuffingThe package name and title are packed with search terms like emoji / battery / statusbar / widget / sticker / cute. It ranks high on Vietnam's personalized chart (the home market).Partly confirmed (visible in package name), search share unknown
Prompted reviews31k installs with 1,373 ratings, 0 of them 1 starsStrong signal, method unverified
TikTok content"Emoji battery" is evergreen demand on TikTok: promo videos from accounts like batteryicon and user4081107443555 get 480k–6.65M views each (mostly brand accounts / Spark Ads format). Regular user tutorials (moniluvs__, 11-03) also promote other companies' apps. No video naming this app was found.Niche confirmed, no evidence for this app
Media / X / Redditx-radar shows zero "emoji battery" posts in the last 30 days. Only data sites like AppBrain and AppGazers index it online.Confirmed none

Where the money comes from: no in-app purchases, contains ads, monetized through interstitial / app-open / native ads (apps like this show ads on every theme switch, preview, and apply). Users must grant accessibility permission and the overlay stays on, but people open the app infrequently. Only the first few theme switches show ads, so LTV is very low. The model only works in countries where CPI is cheap (Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, plus low-cost traffic in Europe and the US), and growth stops the moment spend stops.

5. Why it worked (why it got picked up)

  1. Proven niche, steady demand: Android emoji battery has been one of the largest copycat niches in Play's personalization category for 2026 years. The top two have 1,200–15M installs combined and still add 50k+ a day. The demand carried over from the iPhone emoji battery meme on TikTok in 2023. A new pack that reskins and launches can capture search and paid-acquisition traffic.
  2. Paid traffic on and off: two rounds of spend pushed it up the personalized free charts in 13 countries. When spend stopped, the rank fell from VN #36 / US #73 to VN #129 / US #171.
  3. Clone factory efficiency: the same code base (the first version is 10.0), package names stuffed with keywords, accounts opened under a shell company, and prompted good reviews. Launching new apps costs almost nothing, and if one doesn't work, they just move on to the next.
  4. None of it comes from the product.

6. Differentiation

No. The features, copy, screenshot style, and package naming are all isomorphic with New Widget Co., STARVIA, Growly, OMG! Bros, and others. Adding "cute" and "sticker" to the name is just keywords. It worked not because of differentiation, but because a new account and a new package name were added to an already proven template niche to capture the same traffic (new packages also get more new-app exposure on Play).

7. Visibility

Hardly anyone knows about it yet: no media, X, or Reddit discussion, just data sites indexing it, and revenue is not public and close to zero (no in-app purchases). But the whole "emoji battery" niche is already well known in Vietnam's developer circles; the 20 similar packs are the proof. This app is itself a follower.

8. What to borrow

  • Template category + reskinned new packages + keyword package names + paid acquisition in smaller-language markets and low-CPI countries: this is the standard play of Vietnamese studios. To get in, you have to acquire users more cheaply than they do, or build a real difference (for example, a Dynamic Island / Live Activity version that works on iOS, or the desktop-pet Shimeji direction. ZAppsolution and SHINK are already merging "emoji battery + screen pet," and it's growing faster).
  • Signals to watch: new packages with abnormally high rating-to-install ratios and 1-star ratings of 0 are almost always incentivized reviews. Install curves that jump in steps like limit-up stock moves are almost always paid acquisition being switched on.

9. Uncertain

  • The specific paid acquisition channels (Google UAC / Unity / Mintegral / AppLovin, etc.) didn't show up in any ad library. This product not being on the list doesn't mean it isn't running paid campaigns.
  • The cross-promotion ratio is unverified.
  • Whether 11-06's Vietnam rank rebound comes from a third round of paid acquisition needs a few more days of data to confirm.
  • How much ad monetization revenue it earns: no public data.
