The "2.6M in seven weeks" is an illusion: how Live Cam Earth Map caught demand that others paid to hype on TikTok, using a set of search terms
What it is A free app for watching live cameras around the world, 3D Earth, street view, and a camera that adds GPS watermarks, earning only from ads.
Why it took off For over a year, TikTok creators have been paid to promote a similar app. This one captures people searching on Google Play with titles stuffed with hot keywords, then adds paid acquisition, frequent ad rotation, and rating prompts, pushing an older package to 30 on the US maps chart.
CHow you could follow it Don't copy the wrapper-plus-ad-wall model. Dozens of companies are already crowding Android. If you build here, do what it doesn't do well (a real camera, fewer ads, city-based search), or go to iOS, align your titles with TikTok trending terms, and use the existing creator video templates to acquire users.

"Live Cam Earth Map - GPS Cam" from Vietnamese tool studio GambiSoftVn. Google Play lists its launch as Sep 2026 17, and by Nov 6 it had 2.6M installs. It looks like a new product that blew up in seven weeks, but it's actually been on the shelves since last December. Only the launch date was reset. It didn't build anything new. For over a year, creators on TikTok have been paid to promote another "Live Earth Camera." This app stuffs live cam, earth map, street view, and gps camera into its title to catch people searching on Play, then adds paid acquisition and full-screen ads. It earns the gap between acquisition cost and ad revenue. Below: how it runs, how crowded this category is, and whether you should follow it.
A one-star review: "10 minutes still watching ads"
On Sep 17, the launch date shown in the store, user Kelvin Gallagher wrote: "Every time I press next, it's an ad. 10 minutes later I'm still watching ads and haven't actually used the app." The next day Carol Everett added: "The ads cover the whole screen, you can't see the app behind them. I tapped the Walmart link a dozen times thinking this time it would finally open." Top of the list was Laurentiu Trifan: "You have to watch ten thousand ads to use it... only a few places have a local camera, and I'm not even sure they're live. Deleted it after 3 minutes." Those three reviews were marked helpful by 197, 130, and 120 people respectively (Google Play store page, 11-06).
During the same period that these reviews sat at the top, it reached #14 on the US Maps & Navigation free chart (10-29). By 11-06 it was still at #26, and it appeared on category charts in 23 countries. Bad reviews and rising downloads don't contradict each other, because this app never relied on users liking it to make money.
What it is
Opening it shows a 3D Earth. You can tap into live cameras around the world, street view, satellite imagery, and a camera that stamps photos with GPS location. It's free, ad-supported, with no in-app purchases. The store description is two lines: one saying "explore every corner of the world at your fingertips," and a contact email.
The features are identical to dozens of similar apps on Play. The map uses an existing map service, and the cameras are public webcam streams. The product itself has no barrier.
It's not actually new
The store lists the launch date as 2026-09-17, but third-party data site AppGoblin first picked up this package name in Dec 2025 21, and recorded cumulative installs of 45.8k in Dec 29. APKPure's version history shows v37 from Apr 30, v45 from Jun 20, 7, then v50 through v61 in August. An iOS app with the same name launched in January 2026 and has only 5 ratings so far (App Store, 11-06). It never took off there.
So Sep 17 was a reset: it could have been taken down and re-listed, or had its info changed or expanded to new storefronts. From the outside you can't tell which. Ratings restarted from zero, which is why 2.6M installs only has 7,605 ratings. Its real ramp-up ran from April to September 2026.
If you see a tool app on a chart with "millions of installs after a few weeks on the store," check its version history on AppGoblin or APKPure first. Many are like this.
How big it is now
| Metric | Metric | Sources |
|---|---|---|
| Total installs | 2,608,168; last 7 days +93,956, roughly 13k per day | Google Play,11-06 |
| Rating | 4.20 min, 7,605 ratings; 10-29 hrs ago 6,042 | Google Play,11-06 |
| Star rating | 5-star 5,166, 4-star 988, 3-star 288, 2-star 80, 1-star 1,073 | Google Play,11-06 |
| US Maps & Navigation free chart | 10-29 rank 14 → 11-06 rank 26, still sliding | Google Play charts |
| Other countries | Canada #30, Nigeria #32, South Africa #37, Philippines #47, Australia #54, UAE #62, Saudi Arabia #67 | Google Play charts, 11-06 |
| Version | 10-27 is v76,11-05, is v82, and the release notes are always "Fix bugs / Optimize performance" | Google Play, APKPure |
| Revenue | Monthly revenue "$10K+," all from ads; about 287k monthly active users | AppGoblin estimate, unverified |
The last line deserves a closer look: 2.6M installs, but third-party estimates put monthly revenue at just over $10K (a lower-bound estimate). Any single package in this business isn't big. The money comes from volume.
Where users come from: others hype the demand, and it catches it in the store
The demand was hyped by others on TikTok, paid for. "Watch live cameras around the world on your phone" has been a creator sales template on TikTok for over a year, with hashtags #liveearthcamera and #cctv. New videos keep coming, including 2025 September. The copy is similar throughout. A Spanish video in July read "Did you know you can see cameras from around the world from home? 🏠" and beysushii's September video had one word: "Brazil?" Top-performing examples: tseringla's July video "🌎 Explore anywhere, anytime" at 5k, beysushii's January video at 897k, its September video at 807k, and alicia.xlz's March video at 560k, whose copy says "download Live Earth Câmera right now" (TikTok, 550). Many videos carry a "Paid partnership" label and promote "Live Earth Camera" by AI APPS S.R.L. on iOS, not GambiSoftVn. [Source 11-06]
It catches these people in the store. Android users who watch the videos then search Play for "live earth camera" or "live cam" and see a row of similarly named apps. Its title, "Live Cam Earth Map - GPS Cam," and its package name, earthmap.livecam.streetview.gpscamera, cover four keyword groups: live cam, earth map, street view, and gps camera, with live cam placed first. I found no evidence that it paid creators itself. The link between TikTok heat and this app is inferred from matching timing and keywords (inference).
Plus paid acquisition (inference, strong indirect evidence). It integrates the Adjust attribution SDK, which an organic-only utility app rarely needs. AppGoblin says it tracked 103 ad creatives used for paid user acquisition. It also runs in the US, Canada, and Australia, where ad prices are high, alongside Nigeria, South Africa, and the Philippines, where acquisition is cheap. That combination is common in utility-app ad arbitrage. I couldn't find which ad networks it used or how much it spent.
Finally, two maintenance tactics.
- Frequent releases. It shipped 7 versions from Oct 27 to Nov 5, and over 80 version numbers across the year. This likely means it's tuning ad placements and ad configuration (inference).
- Rating prompts. It gains 150 to 260 ratings a day, but only 315 written reviews in total. 68% of ratings are five-star, while most written reviews are negative. It only prompts for a star rating and doesn't ask for text, which keeps the average around 4.2 and absorbs the highly liked negative reviews.
How the money comes back: interstitial, full-screen, and rewarded video ads are layered together, so a new user sees as many ads as possible in the first few minutes (AdMob mediating 10 ad networks, per AppGoblin's SDK scan). As long as the ad revenue from one user exceeds what it cost to acquire them, the spending continues. Retention doesn't matter much.
What kind of company is behind it
GambiSoftVn has 11 apps under its name, with roughly 40 to 50 million installs in total: an AI piano keyboard, GPS watermark camera (10M+ each), a PDF reader, Open Reader (12.4M), and more. The same company also has a "Gambi Global" account making photo translation, find-my-phone, and prank sound apps (AppBrain, AppGoblin). This is a typical Vietnamese tool studio: many accounts, many categories, one ad-monetization template. Whichever package proves out on paid acquisition gets scaled up, and whichever doesn't gets replaced by the next.
For them, Live Cam Earth Map is a package that worked, not a product.
Who it's competing with: a lot of players
This is one of the oldest and most crowded wrapper categories on Google Play. Dozens of apps have earth, street view, satellite, or live cam in their names, and this one is only mid-tier among them:
| Product | Developer | Launched | Installs | past 7 days |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Earth | 2010 | 624M | +540k | |
| Live Earth Map - World Map 3D | TarrySoft | 2020-01 | 32.9M | +426k |
| GPS Navigation: Live Earth Map | Prometheus | — | — | +325k |
| Live Satellite & Location Maps | Vertix Soft | 2021 | 8.13M | +222k |
| GPS Earth Maps Satellite View | Sleek Mobile | 2025-09 | 2.24M | +210k |
| GPS Satellite Earth Map View | Soft Clicks | 2018 | 15.9M | +176k |
| Live Cam Earth Map - GPS Cam | GambiSoftVn | 2025-12 (store shows 2026-09) | 2.61M | +94k |
| GPS Camera & Live Earth Map | VNP Panda Studio | 2026-04 | 2.92M | +78k |
| Live Earth Map & GPS Camera | Pham Kieu Oanh | 2026-05 | 1.01M | +77k |
| Live Street Camera View | Quality App Zone | 2020-04 | 7.64M | +73k |
| Live Earth Camera | AI APPS S.R.L. | 2025-03 | 1.04M (iOS 568 ratings) | — |
(Google Play, 11-06; "—" means not checked)
VNP Panda Studio and Pham Kieu Oanh made the same combination of earth map and GPS watermark camera earlier this year, in 4 and May, at about the same scale. As of Oct 13, another developer (CHEN DONG JIE) also published a "Live Cam Earth Map" under the same name, with "com." added in front of the package name. It has 3,468 installs so far.
Beyond the apps, there's another set of rivals: EarthCam.com, SkylineWebcams, worldeye and similar websites. They're free, need no install, and have far more cameras. A TikTok post from theroguedev in October 21 promoted a camera-map website, claiming 200k cameras on one map plus planes and ships, and that video got 170k views. The app's only edge is that it shows up when you search the store.
Is anyone talking about it?
Almost no one. Over the past two months, X searches turn up nothing for it or GambiSoftVn. No media coverage, no public revenue. It only appears in data sites and download mirrors like AppGoblin, AppBrain and APKPure. Few people know about it, but everyone knows the category, and plenty of people have been building in it for a long time.
If it were you
Bottom line: this isn't a product opportunity. It's a paid-acquisition arbitrage template that Vietnamese and South Asian tool shops have already run into the ground. What you can learn is the idea of "others pay to heat up demand, and you catch it in the store with your title," not this app itself.
Who it suits: tool studios that already have paid acquisition, an ad-monetization team and multiple developer accounts, treating it as one more title in their portfolio.
Who it doesn't suit: indie devs who want to build a product people use and pay for. Here, users arrive and get driven off by ads. One title brings in just over $10K a month, and you have to keep pouring money into UA.
If you do want to build this, how:
- Do the part it gets wrong: the cameras are real, there are fewer ads, you can browse by city and type (beaches, intersections, zoos), and it's a one-time purchase or a cheap subscription. The people who are genuinely curious get turned off by the wall of fake live-stream apps, and the bad reviews already say so.
- Or build it on iOS. Android is packed, and on iOS the only app TikTok pushed hard is AI APPS. GambiSoftVn's own iOS version has only 5 ratings.
How to get users: don't make your own content. Ride the #liveearthcamera buzz: align your title and screenshots with the terms that spread on TikTok. With a budget, pay a few hundred dollars to small creators and shoot to the existing template: "open the globe, tap a camera in a strange city." The format has already been proven.
Timing: this buzz has lasted over a year, and October still had new videos pulling hundreds of thousands of views, but it could cool off at any time. Ship before the end of this year to catch this wave.
Signs you're reading it wrong: #liveearthcamera's newest video drops below a few tens of thousands of views; or a month after you ship, you still can't find your app in the top 20 for "live earth camera" in the store search. The first means demand is fading. The second means the search results are locked up by incumbents, and you won't break in without paid acquisition.

It also ranks in 22–25 country category charts (US, Canada, Australia, Canada, Nigeria, South Africa, Philippines, Gulf states). Our Meta / Google / TikTok ad libraries don't list it (not in our set).

- Inferred Spillover from the TikTok category wave (not self-funded): #liveearthcamera and #cctv creator templates keep producing new videos 2025-09–2026-11. Many carry Paid partnership tags, and the top one hit 897k views. They promote AI APPS' Live Earth Camera (id6738992618), whose title nearly matches these terms.
- Verified Frequent releases plus rating prompts: from 10-27 to 11-05 it shipped 7 versions (v76→v82). New ratings come in at 150–260 per day, but only 315 reviews have text in total, and 5-star ratings make up 68%.

Why Live Cam Earth Map - GPS Cam (GambiSoftVn) got traction
Google Play package name io.earthmap.livecam.streetview.gpscamera, category Maps & Navigation, free, with ads, no in-app purchases. Developer GambiSoftVn (Vietnam, registered entity GAMBI GLOBAL COMPANY LIMITED, website gambisoft.com).
Bottom line
This isn't a new hit that went from launch to 2.6M installs in 7 weeks. It's a live camera / earth map ad-monetized app from a Vietnamese tools studio, on the shelf for at least 2025 years, since December. 2026-09-17 Re-listings and storefront expansions reset the store's launch date. What got it moving is three things: demand for this category has always been there, and the #liveearthcamera trend on TikTok, driven by creators, amplified it; the name is stuffed with search terms (Live Cam / Earth Map / Street View / GPS Cam); and paid acquisition plus full-screen ad monetization, which profits off the spread. The product itself has no real differentiation. The store reviews are all about too many ads and fake cameras.

The "7 weeks on the shelf" figure is an illusion (this is the key correction):
- AppGoblin first captured this package name on 2025-12-21. Its trends page starts from 2025-12-29, when cumulative installs were 45.8K, and by 10-26 it was 2.50M (https://www.appgoblin.info/apps/io.earthmap.livecam.streetview.gpscamera/trends).
- APKPure version history shows v37 (2026-04-30), v45 (06-20), v50–v61 (7–August), v65 (09-10), v67 (09-17)… (https://apkpure.com/live-cam-earth-map-gps-cam/io.earthmap.livecam.streetview.gpscamera/versions).
- A cached search-engine copy of the UK Play page says "Updated on 19 Jun 2026."
- There's an iOS app with the same name, "Live Cam Earth Map - GPS Cam" (id6756862998, seller truong nguyen xuan, seller site gambi.global). It was listed 2026-01-07 and has only 5 ratings, averaging 2.6 (iTunes lookup). The iOS version never took off.
- Conclusion: the store's first-release date of 2026-09-17 is a reset date (re-listed, metadata changed, or expanded to new storefronts). The rating count restarted from 0, which matches AppGoblin's record of 46k installs and 0 ratings in December. Our library's released_reset is False only because we never saw earlier reviews in our sample. That doesn't mean it's actually new. Its real ramp-up ran from 2026 4 to September, and our library (starting 10-29) missed it.
2. Competitors: this is a crowded, mature category
"Live Earth Map / Street View / Live Cam / Satellite View" is one of the most typical clone-app categories on Google Play. Our library alone has dozens of titles with earth, street view, satellite or live cam in the name, mostly from small tool studios in South Asia and Vietnam.
| Competitors | Where | Launched | Scale (googleplay library, 11-06) | How it differs |

| Web: EarthCam.com, SkylineWebcams, worldeye.app, Argos Atlas, glassearthlive.com, etc. | Web | various | The "200k camera map" site pushed by theroguedev on TikTok, peaking at 170k views on a single video | Free, no app install, more cameras; the App wins by being findable in the store with a search |
Verdict: It's not standing out in this category at all. Its volume over the last 7 days is only middling among peers; TarrySoft, Prometheus (GPS Navigation: Live Earth Map, +325k), Vertix Soft, and Sleek all do more. Its high recall score comes from its first-release date being reset, which makes it look like a "new app with 2.6M in seven weeks."
3. Growth levers: where users come from
- Paid acquisition (most likely the main engine, strong indirect evidence)
- It integrates the Adjust attribution SDK. Utility apps that rely on organic traffic usually don't bother with attribution; including one basically means they're buying paid installs (AppGoblin SDK scan).
- AppGoblin says it "tracked 103 ad creatives this app uses for paid user acquisition" (verbatim from the overview page). The page doesn't show which networks they run on.
- Our Meta / Google / TikTok ad libraries don't have it: it isn't on the adwatch list (it never charted in Top Grossing), so not finding it doesn't mean it isn't advertising.
- It charts in 22~25 countries' category charts, including the US, Canada, Nigeria, South Africa, the Philippines, Australia, and the Gulf states. That's the common "high-eCPM countries plus cheap-traffic countries" combo for utility-app ad arbitrage.
- Riding the TikTok category wave (demand side, confirmed to exist, but not something it paid for)
- On TikTok, #liveearthcamera and #cctv have been a creator posting template for over a year, with new videos from 2025-09 through 2026-11. Many carry "Paid partnership" labels or ad_source tags, e.g. alantech_, alexkwillslay, gladysrlsaenz, mamaangel630, kittyffne. Single-video views range from tens of thousands to 897k (tseringla5,2026-07), 550k (alicia.xlz, 2026-03), and 490k (phiaaabudolfinds, 2026-10). They're pushing AI APPS S.R.L.'s "Live Earth Camera" (the chaewonasmr video directly shows apps.apple.com/…/id6738992618). (TikHub search, 2026-11-06)
- These videos grow demand for "live cam / live earth camera." When users search Google Play, they get a row of apps with similar names, and Live Cam Earth Map is one of them. I found no evidence it hired the creators itself.
- Store search / ASO (confirmed)
- The title "Live Cam Earth Map - GPS Cam" and the package name earthmap.livecam.streetview.gpscamera cover four high-search-volume terms: live cam, earth map, street view, and gps camera.
- Apps in this category all name themselves this way. Its title is nearly the same word set as the "Live Earth Camera" spreading on TikTok, so it catches spillover search traffic.
- Frequent releases: From 10-27 to 11-05 it shipped 7 versions (v76→v82), with over 80 version numbers in the year, and the release notes always read "Fix bugs / Optimize performance." This looks like tuning ad placements and ad configs and running A/B tests; it may also be an attempt to pick up store ranking from "recently updated" (unverified).
- Rating management: The rating count rises by 150~260 a day, but only 315 written reviews exist in total; 5-star ratings make up 68%, yet most written reviews are negative. This is a typical in-app rating prompt setup (it nudges star ratings, not written reviews), keeping the average at 4.1~4.3.
- Developer portfolio: GambiSoftVn has 11 apps, roughly 40M~45M installs combined (AppBrain, chrome-stats, AppGoblin). Includes AI Piano Magic Keyboard and GPS Photo Stamp Camera Map (both 10M+), Open Reader (12.4M), and PDF Reader (4.28M; in our library, +170k over 7 days). The same company also has a "Gambi Global" developer account (Camera Translator, Find My Phone, Prank Sound…). It's a typical Vietnamese utility shop: many accounts, many categories, one ad-monetization template; scale up any app that works on paid traffic, drop any that doesn't.
4. Why users come, and why they (don't) stay
- Why they come: "Watch live cameras around the world on your phone / peek at other cities" is a curiosity hook TikTok has repeatedly proven. "Satellite maps / street view / find my house" is steady search demand all year; "GPS watermark camera" is another steady demand, tacked onto the same app as a secondary selling point.
- Why they don't stay: The three most helpful store reviews were all written on launch day (2026-09-17/18), with 196 / 130 / 120 people marking them helpful: "Have to watch 10k ads to use it"; "Every tap on next is an ad, and after 10 minutes I still haven't gotten in"; "Full-screen ads block everything, I tapped a dozen times and kept landing on Walmart." Others say "there are only a few cameras, not sure they're actually live." AppGoblin estimates 287k MAU, about 11% of 2.5M installs.
- Where the money comes from: No in-app purchases, pure ads. App open, interstitial, and rewarded video ads stack on top of each other, so a new user sees as many ads as possible in the first few minutes (AdMob mediates 10 networks). As long as ad revenue per user exceeds acquisition cost, they keep spending; no retention needed. AppGoblin estimates monthly revenue at $10K+, a lower-bound estimate that I haven't verified.
5. Differentiation
No real differentiation. Features (3D Earth, street view, public camera list, GPS watermark camera) match at least a dozen peers. The data sources are mostly public webcam streams and map SDKs, and the product experience is worse than peers (high ad density). Its only difference from others is operational:
- The word combination in the title (live cam up front, matching TikTok trend terms);
- The Vietnamese utility shop's paid acquisition plus ad-monetization efficiency, and frequent releases to tune parameters.
These aren't product differences, but they are why it's running.
6. Visibility and copycats
- Visibility: Few people know about it yet. X corpus searches (x-radar, 60 days) for "live cam earth map" and "gambisoft" return nothing relevant; no media coverage, no public revenue; only data and download sites like AppGoblin, AppBrain, and APKPure index it.
- Copycats: People have already copied the name and package. Developer "CHEN DONG JIE" listed
com.io.earthmap.livecam.streetview.gpscameraon 2026-10-13 with the name "Live Cam Earth Map", just addingcom.in front of the original package name. It has 3,468 installs in our library and once ranked #190 in the US Maps Top Free chart. Around the same time, new packages like VNP Panda Studio, Pham Kieu Oanh, and ZAFAR STUDIO (Live Earth Map - Live camera, 2026-05) appeared with "Earth map + camera / GPS camera" combos.
7. What others can borrow
- Find a curiosity category that TikTok creators keep pushing without you paying for content (here, "global live cameras"). Use a store title that claims the hot keywords to capture spillover search traffic.
- The utility-shop playbook: many accounts and packages, ad monetization plus attributed paid acquisition, frequent releases to tune ads; pair it with an in-app rating prompt to keep the average above 4 and absorb negative reviews.
- For apps whose store release date has been reset, check the real age on third-party sites first (AppGoblin, APKPure version history). Don't get fooled by "7 weeks, 2.6M."
8. Still unclear
- What exactly was the 9-17 reset? Was it a takedown and re-listing, an account transfer, or an expansion from a few countries to global? I found no direct evidence.
- Acquisition channels and spend: Adjust plus "103 ad creatives" is only indirect evidence. Whether it runs on Google UAC, Meta, or Mintegral / Unity, our ad libraries don't cover it, so I can't verify.
- Revenue: AppGoblin's $10K+/month is a modeled estimate.
- "TikTok spillover is what's lifting it" is an inference: the timing and keywords line up, but there's no evidence it's paying creators itself.
