Twin Tales (ポケットツイン / 포켓트윈) · ENSAPIA Corporation

Its rating dropped to 1 stars, yet its Top Grossing rank keeps climbing: how an old Japanese dress-up game makes money in Taiwan and Korea

What it is A Japanese social dress-up game where one account raises two cute little characters, dressing them up, pulling gacha for outfits, and trading duplicate items with other players.

Why it took off The veteran studio moved the six-year-old Japanese gacha pool into Korean, Traditional Chinese, and English regions. Taiwan and Hong Kong's social Top Grossing charts have a low bar, and heavy gacha pulls, pre-registration rewards, collabs, and old players migrating over got it into the top 10.

CHow you could follow Don't copy the gacha dress-up. Borrow its "two characters as a pair" design and build a lightweight two-person posing and mini-story tool for people who create OCs and ship characters but don't want to spend much, acquiring users through OC community photo sharing.

C grade: its money comes from six years of art assets, a veteran IP's players, and over a decade of monetization operations, which followers can't replicate. The same tier is also crowded with three or four products from the same company. What you can learn: multi-region packaging, the two-character design, and the web store. Whispers in niche circles

On Google Play, an app called Twin Tales has only 400k installs, yet it ranks #4 to #7 on Taiwan's social Top Grossing chart. It looks like this year's new hit, but it's actually the Japanese veteran Cocone (renamed ENSAPIA this April) localizing the 2019-year-old *ポケコロツイン* into Korean, Traditional Chinese, and English, listed region by region in one package. It reaches Top Grossing because of six years of accumulated gacha content and seasoned operations, not because of the idea itself. Indie developers can take a few lessons from it, but it's hard to copy.

A gacha pool that only ran for three days

On 2026 Oct 29, the Taiwan version of *口袋可可雙子物語* launched a "Pink Ghost" gacha pool. The pool ran for three months in the Japanese version but only three days in the Taiwan and Korean versions. The comments section blew up that same night, with one person writing just "3-day pool is the dumbest thing in the world" (Google Play Taiwan review, 10-30). Another review was more detailed:

The Pink Ghost pool, which was hugely popular when it launched in Japan in 10/29, is "only available for 3 days"... The Japanese version ran it for 3 months, and in Taiwan and Korea it's called a "3-day limited" pool. This is clearly designed to force people to spend money.

(Google Play Taiwan, 1 stars, 11-01)

The monthly average Play rating in Taiwan went from 3.48 in July to 4.0 in August, 2.19 in October, and just 1.34 in the first few days of November. In the same period, on Taiwan's Google Play overall Top Grossing chart it climbed from #39 to #20–25; on iOS Taiwan social Top Grossing it went from #44 in 10-28 to #22 in 11-05. The people complaining are leaving, and the people paying are still paying, and paying even more.

What it actually is

One account raises two "Cocoto" characters at once, dressing them and decorating their rooms, using the in-game currency "快樂" to pull gacha for outfits and furniture. Duplicate items can be traded with other players. Players' own words: "It's a great place to ship ships" (5 stars, 64 people liked it, 7-03), "You can raise your own OCs and watch them interact and take photos together... and you get two at a time." Two characters in a pair naturally suit couples, best friends, parent-child outfits, and original characters (OCs), which is what sets it apart from ordinary dress-up games.

Its identity needs clarifying first. The package name jp.cocone.p2korea has p2, which is *ポケコロツイン* (launched in Japan 2019-12, 1.6M installs on Google Play, and still ranked #3 on Japan's social Top Grossing chart 11-06). The same package gets different names by region:

StorefrontNameLaunched

Taiwan and Hong Kong口袋可可雙子物語2025-05-29

The store reset the release date to 2026-07-22 to open pre-registration for the English version, so it looks like a new app.

Where the money comes from

All of it comes from gacha. A 7-pull costs 4,950 to 6,300 "快樂", and it gets more expensive the more you pull; a single pull costs 900. There was no pity system for a long time, and only recently was one added, with a high threshold. There are also VIP monthly passes, limited-time pools, and gift packs, with individual in-app purchases of $0.49–75.99 on Play. One player listed October's schedule: a marketplace at the end of September, a copy event in early October, a 770 gift pack every Saturday, a big limited-time event at month-end with a 7-day mini pool, a three-day Pink Ghost on the 29th, a Sanrio collab in November 1, a discount store on the 5th, a lucky bag on the 20th, and an anniversary top-up on the 25th. There's almost no downtime in between. The line most often quoted in the comments: "One month can burn through 1 to 1.5 months of your salary."

The Taiwan server also has a web store (store.pockettwin.tw, running on Xsolla) that gives out free gacha tickets to steer players to the web. Payments made on the web don't count toward the store's Top Grossing chart, so its chart rank probably understates its real revenue (inferred, not verified).

Why does a product with 400k installs reach the top 10? Social Top Grossing charts in Taiwan and Hong Kong have a low bar, and few social products there take in big money, so a hardcore gacha dress-up game can squeeze in. It sits at Korea social top grossing #11–18 and falls to #64 or lower in Singapore; it's not on the US or UK charts at all. The English iOS version in the US store has only 92 ratings at 11-06. Nearly all the money comes from Taiwan and Korea.

TikTok is not its channel. Searching "twin tales" mostly turns up a Japanese twin idol duo called TwinTale; the official account's videos get a few hundred views. No Meta ads from it turned up in the search, but not finding them doesn't mean it isn't running them.

Who it's competing with

No outside clones are taking its users. The real competition is in-house: Pokecolo Universe, launched in March of year 2026, has 240k installs on Google Play and gained 25k in a week, faster than this one, and it has reached #12 on Taiwan's social Top Grossing chart. The sibling pet-raising game Livly Island is #5 on Taiwan's social Top Grossing chart. This niche is essentially ENSAPIA's own products competing with each other.

Rivals further out each take their own path: ZEPETO does 3D social for young users; Highrise, Avakin, and IMVU target the 3D aesthetic of Western audiences; Gacha Life is free, single-player, and lets you create OCs, with no paid gacha and no trading; Infold's Nikki series is dress-up plus story. Cocone alone is doing the thing this one does: Japanese-style 2D cuteness, two characters as a pair, and player-to-player trading.

Can others follow it?

It's hard. Its revenue rests on three things: over six years of accumulated gacha pool art, so new regions have ready-made content to launch with; more than a decade of experience running dress-up SNS in monetization and scheduling; and veteran players carried over from the Japan server and LINE Play. Would-be copycats have none of these three. Dress-up gacha consumes art output fastest, and a small team can't produce enough outfits per month to sustain that pace.

Four things you can take from it:

  1. One package, many stores. The same app takes a different name by region and shares content, targeting small markets where the social Top Grossing bar is low. Anyone with a mature product can copy this.
  2. Two characters as a pair. This is a relationship-based design for OC creators and shippers, and commenters bring it up repeatedly. It works in other categories too, such as paired avatars, paired stickers, or paired diaries.
  3. Web store plus free coupons. Moving payments to the web saves 30% in channel fees.
  4. A cautionary tale. The same gacha pool ran on the Japan server for three months and the overseas servers for three days, and players spotted the gap right away. Ratings collapsed to 1 stars within a week. Teams running multiple regions can't let players see unequal treatment across them.

If it were you

C. There's something to learn, but following it isn't worth the cost. It's an established company moving six years of assets into a new language market, not an idea a small team can replicate.

Who it fits: teams that already have a deep, mature app or game and want to expand into Taiwan, Hong Kong, or Korea should copy its one-package-many-stores approach and web store. People building OC or anime creation tools can borrow the "two characters as a pair" design.

Who it doesn't fit: small teams starting from zero with dress-up gacha. You won't match the art output, you can't copy the monetization cadence, and you'd be competing for the same users with three or four ENSAPIA products.

How to do it: skip gacha and take the end it doesn't cover. Build a lightweight tool for the people who love making OCs in Gacha Life but don't want to spend much: "two OCs as a pair," with posing and short story scenes. Sell it as a subscription or a one-time purchase, with no gacha.

How to get users: go where OC and ship communities gather, such as Bahamut, Lofter, the OC topics on Xiaohongshu, and r/OriginalCharacter on Reddit, plus the communities left behind by LINE Play's shutdown. Have users post their paired poses, so the images themselves do the advertising.

Is there a deadline? No hard date. If the Taiwan server's bad reviews actually drive players away, the next month or two is the time to reach this group.

What would mean the read is wrong: (1) ratings drop well below 1 stars yet the Taiwan chart rank holds near the top 30 in December, showing heavy players don't care about reputation, which makes this business more durable and harder for outsiders to break into; (2) Twin Tales breaks into the US social Top Grossing chart, showing the playbook also works in the West and the English-speaking gap is gone; (3) an outside small team's two-character dress-up app reaches the top 50 of the Taiwan or Korea social Top Grossing chart without a legacy IP, meaning this tier was underrated.

Twin Tales / 口袋可可雙子物語 / 포켓트윈 (jp.cocone.p2korea) research report

Date: 2026-11-06. Data: googleplay / appstore / metaads library (agent-im server), iTunes lookup, Jina web search, TikHub.

Bottom line

This is not a new product from year 2026, and it didn't take off from the English "Twin Tales" launch. The package is the same app from Japan's Cocone (renamed ENSAPIA in 2026-04-01), which localized its own mature 2019-year-old Japanese title, ポケコロツイン, and published it region by region: the Korean version 《포켓트윈》(2024-11-28), the Traditional Chinese version 《口袋可可雙子物語》(2025-05-28/29), and the English version 《Twin Tales》(2026-08-06). It ranks high on the social Top Grossing charts in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Korea because a veteran dress-up SNS company moved its existing gacha content library, operating rhythm, and monetization design straight into the new language markets, then drove installs with pre-registration, IP collabs, and veteran player migration. The "2026-07 launch, 399k installs" you see in the recall is the store resetting the release date (to run pre-registration for the English version), not the real launch date.

1. First, establish identity

  • googleplay app table: released=2026-03-17, released_store=2026-07-22, released_reset=True; developer_website=pockettwin.kr, support email [email protected]. The package name p2korea already means "Pocket Coco (p2) Korean version."
  • The name shown per region for the same package (googleplay v_chart): tw/hk "口袋可可雙子物語 POCKET TWIN", kr "포켓트윈", sg "Twin Tales".
  • iOS uses the same id 6670240994 (iTunes lookup, 2026-11-06): kr "포켓트윈" has 2024-11-28,1228 ratings; tw "口袋可可雙子物語" has 2025-05-28,1314 ratings; us "Twin Tales" has 2026-08-06 ratings, only 92 of them; the version is 1.16.2 across all.
  • Korea edition: Joongang Ilbo 2024-12 (republished by ensapia.co.kr) says Cocone M launched the Korean version of Pocket Twin on Dec 28. The Japanese original has 16M cumulative downloads, aimed at teens aged 10.www.cocone.co.kr/forum/view/1141573

  • English version: ENSAPIA 2026-08-06 press release, original: "English-language service for the full-scale overseas rollout of 'Pokekoro Twin'". ensapia.com/news/press-release/id=21093/
  • The Japanese original "Pokécoro Twin" (jp.cocone.p2): 2019-12-16 listed; the Google Play database logs 1.61M installs and 19,722 ratings; 2026-11-06 ranks #3 on the Japan Social Top Grossing chart and #17 on the overall Top Grossing chart.

2. Data

  • On Play, installs went from 398,879 to 2026-11-06 over 7 days, +5,280 in total, roughly 750 a day, a slow climb; ratings rose by 3,612,9 over 115 days. This install number adds up KR, TW, HK and English stores together.
  • Grossing chart (Google Play chart_rank, 2026-10-29 to 11-06):
    • TW social grossing #4–7; overall grossing rose from #39 to #20–25.
    • HK social grossing #7–14; overall grossing #48–97.
    • KR social grossing #11–18; overall grossing #92–158.
    • SG social grossing #64–118.
    • Not charted in the US or UK stores.
  • iOS (appstore library app_profile): best TW social grossing #14, overall grossing #152; best KR social grossing #28; HK #19. TW social grossing rose from #44 at 10-28 to #22 at 11-05, coinciding with the 1.5 anniversary event and new gacha pool launch.
  • English edition is weak: 92 iOS ratings in the US store, and on Play Twin Tales only charted in SG. Nearly all revenue comes from Taiwan and Korea.
  • Also: the Taiwan server runs a separate Xsolla web store, store.pockettwin.tw (1 gacha tickets priced at $990, likely NT$; it also gives free gacha tickets, steering players to the web). Payments on the web don't count toward store grossing charts, so chart ranks may understate real revenue (inferred, unverified).

3. Why users come, why they stay, why they pay

  1. The content is already built. The Japan store has been running for 6 years, and the gacha pools come with finished art. A Taiwan-store review quoted the Japan version directly: "The Japan store's very hot pink ghost gacha... the Japan version itself has only been open 3 months, and it got brought over to Taiwan and Korea as a '3-day limited' event" (Google Play review, 2026-11-01). So every store shares one content set. Opening a new store needs almost no new art, and it launches with proven gacha pools, events and pacing ready to use.
  2. The hook is a gap nobody's filling. One account runs two "Kokoren" characters at once, for best friends, couples, or matching family outfits, or just to raise your own OCs (original characters). User quotes: "a great place for shipping CPs" (5 stars, 64 likes), "you can raise your own OC and still watch them interact and take photos... and you get two at once", "being able to create 2 characters that cuddle is a really unique feature". Korean coverage also calls the "twin avatars" its biggest difference from ordinary avatar services.
  3. Trading keeps people hooked. Duplicate items can be swapped with other players, and the community has market prices, "flippers" (炒價仔), and "angels." This is the dress-up + trading + notes-as-social formula Cocone has run on since 《ポケコロ》. Users get locked in by their collections and their relationships. In their words: "I've put too much money and time into this."
  4. Monetization runs on gacha plus limited-time offers. 7 pulls in a row 4,950–6,300 「快樂」 (single pull 900), no pity system (added later, but with a high threshold), plus a VIP monthly card and limited pools (pockettwintw.wordpress.com/monetization). On Play, IAP runs $0.49–75.99 per item. Heavy players report spending over 15,500 a month (likely NT$). A typical Taiwan review line: 「一個月能用掉你 1~1.5 個月的薪水」.
  5. Reviews are collapsing. Taiwan-store Google Play review averages by month (googleplay review, 194 reviews): July 3.48, August 4.0, September 3.26, October 2.19, November 1.34. The trigger was the 1.5 anniversary of 10-29: the pink ghost pool was cut to 3 days, and the odds on perfume were quietly adjusted. But at the same time the grossing rank kept climbing, so the heavy players are still paying.

6. Differentiation, and whether that's why it broke out

  • The product difference is the 「twin」 concept: raising two characters at once suits CP, best-friend, parent-child and OC storytelling, and is paired with the kawaii 2D art of Japanese games and item trading between players. User reviews keep coming back to this, and it is one of the reasons people stay.
  • But reaching the top of the grossing charts in Taiwan and Korea depends more on publishing capability than on the product idea. ENSAPIA has 6 years of ready-made content, mature gacha and VIP monetization, and over a decade of avatar SNS operations. It has localized the same package region by region over 2024–2026 years (Korean, Traditional Chinese, English), and each new region can ride the launch bump on existing content. The Taiwan and Hong Kong social grossing charts have a low bar (few social apps monetize heavily), so a heavy gacha dress-up game can reach the top 10.
  • Conclusion: the differentiation gives a small group of loyal players who will spend; it works mainly because 「a mature IP plus content reuse, entering small markets with a low social grossing bar」.

7. Visibility and copycats

  • Visibility: talked about within small circles. Public coverage is limited to company press releases, the Bahamut and sounova launch posts, and a few Korean media stories. No public revenue figures, and no big accounts or tech media on X have written about it. In the last 30 days, x-radar returned 0 results for 「Twin Tales」.
  • Copycats: none found copying it externally. The real cannibalization comes from the same company's Pokecolo Universe (2026-03 listed), which is growing faster in Taiwan.

8. What others can learn

  • Take a product with deep existing content and localize one package for many regions: rename the same bundle by region (포켓트윈 / 口袋可可雙子物語 / Twin Tales), share one content pipeline, and treat the social grossing charts of small Asian markets as a low-barrier revenue pool.
  • "Relationship avatars" in pairs of two characters are a natural fit for OC makers and ship fans.
  • Use a web store (Xsolla) plus free-code giveaways to move payments off-store and skip channel fees; tiered pre-registration rewards; co-brand with K-pop artists or IP like Sanrio to pull in new users.
  • Lesson from the flop: the new-server and Japan-server pools differ hugely in age (3 months vs 3 days), players spot it immediately, and the rating crashed to 1 stars.

9. Uncertain

  • Real revenue by store, and how much comes from the web store, is unverified.
  • Whether it runs Meta or TikTok paid acquisition: our ad library has no record of this one, so we can't check.
  • How many people actually pre-registered in English ("10M" is just a reward tier, not a real count), and how well it retains in Europe and the Americas after launch: the ratings suggest it's weak.
  • Whether it can hold a Top Grossing ranking after the rating collapse.
