# Stringing your idol's photos into a rosary: how Korea's "electronic wooden fish" Seokgamoney hit #1 on the App Store overall chart, and why it's hard to copy

**What it is** A Korean zen-style stress-relief app: tap a wooden fish, spin prayer beads, collect "luck" by walking. The luck you gather is used to dress up a Buddha statue, you can put your own photos on the beads, and it makes money through subscriptions and cosmetics.

**Why it took off** "Pop Buddhism" was peaking among young Koreans in September, and this was a free, instantly usable digital version. The feature that turns your favorite idol's photo into a rosary got fan communities posting heavily on X, Threads, and Instagram, and it hit the overall chart within a day.

**C** **How you could follow it** Don't build another wooden fish in Korea. Take the recipe: a proven relaxing micro-action, a cultural symbol that's trending locally, and a customization slot for user photos. When the next symbol heats up, ship within a week and have a creator account post the first video.

Grade C: the recipe is clear and worth studying, but this run rode a one-time window from Korea's pop Buddhism wave, which has already passed its peak. Korea got heavy coverage and Toss offered free-to-try versions, and the original already prepared Thai, Vietnamese, and Traditional Chinese versions, so there's no obvious open country to enter. Publicly known / widely discussed

Seokgamoney ("Shakyamuni money") is a Korean zen stress-relief app: tap a wooden fish, spin prayer beads, collect "luck" by walking, and use the luck to dress a Buddha statue. The core mechanic is the electronic wooden fish that already had a wave in China 2022 years ago, but in 2026 it hit #1 on the Korean App Store free overall chart in September 14, and on Android its installs rose from 244 to 26k in 9 days. What really pushed it up wasn't the wooden fish but a feature that lets you put idol photos on the beads. The approach is worth learning, but this wave has already passed its peak, and Korean fintech app Toss has also made wooden fish and prayer beads into instant-access versions.

### A wooden fish keychain sold out in 48 minutes, and 4 days later the app hit #1 on the overall chart

Sep 10 2026, at 12 noon, a "공덕 키링" (merit keyring) went on sale at Bongeunsa temple in Seoul: a little wooden fish charm shaped like a keychain cap that goes "tok" when you press it, like tapping a drum to bank merit. It sold out in 48 minutes, with a limit of 3 per person. The queue included office workers who ran over on their lunch break, and social media filled up with "didn't get one" posts (openads 09-28, citing the Korea Economic Journal).

4 days later, in September 14, a free app where you tap a wooden fish and spin prayer beads hit #1 on the Korean App Store free overall chart. The next day, an X account called "빚갚는미친개" (Debt-Repaying Crazy Dog) reposted it, citing a Threads post by creator 김부따 (Kim Buddha):

> A solo-developed app that reached #1 on the App Store in 3 countries, "석가머니"... the features are actually simple. Tap the wooden fish, spin the beads to collect "luck"; there's also a wardrobe for dressing Shakyamuni, where you can put on a gamer jacket or sunglasses ㅋㅋ. Each feature looks minor on its own, but mixing religion + healing + games + dress-up makes something that's completely new.

This post has about 36k views so far. 김부따's pinned Threads post still reads "석가머니 accumulating luck, #1 on the entire Korean App Store" (Seokgamoney, luck-gathering, #1 on the entire Korean App Store).

### What it is

Opens on a cartoon Buddha. The store copy is written by 'when to use it', each line a self-deprecating joke (iOS Korea store, 11-06):

- When you're angry: tap 108 times, 'my arm hurts, so I forget I was angry';

- When you don't want to go to work: tap in bed before getting up, 'consider it patience training';

- When the urge to shop hits: 'open 석가머니 instead of your wallet. You buy nothing and still feel like you got something';

- When you're tired after work: 'walk with the Buddha, you're walking home anyway'. It even links to the Health app: walk 5,000 steps a day and you open a lucky bag;

- When there's no one to talk to: drink tea and chat with the AI monk '햄스님' (Hamster Master), 'stays awake even at 3 a.m.';

- '부처핸섬' (Handsome Buddha): dress the statue up with the luck you've saved;

- '애착염주' (Attachment Beads): 'put in a photo and anything becomes one of my beads'.

The closing line: '번뇌는 무소유, 행운은 풀소유': no worries held onto, all the luck held onto.

It swaps 'merit' for 'luck' (wealth luck, health luck, peace luck), which removes the religious barrier, so non-believers can play too. The app is in 7 languages (Korean, English, Japanese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese), launched on iOS in July 4 and on Android in August 12.

Money comes from two places: the '극락클럽' (Paradise Club) monthly subscription, which sells ad removal and double luck-earning speed; and separately sold luck and Buddha-statue outfits, with in-app purchases on Google Play listed at $0.79–8.99 each. Revenue is not public.

### What shot it to #1 was the idol photo in the beads

Almost nobody is sharing wooden fish in reposts. What gets shared is '애착염주': people turn their bias (최애) or their pet into a string of beads, flick through them one by one, and when 108 are done the screen pops up '평안운 +10' (peace luck +10). The memes on X and short-video apps are '불안형 애착염주' (anxious-attachment beads), '팀 불안형 다 모여' (all the anxious-attachment folks, come together), and '최애랑 성불' (reaching enlightenment with your bias). A Korean meme-encyclopedia site summed up why it took off, and its first line is 'the popularity is all about customization' (instablank).

Then brands jumped in: the beauty brand MISSHA posted a clip on X of its BB cream going through the beads, one by one, captioned 'MISSHA's editor, tired and sick, cultivating through the beads'; another skincare brand put its toner in, captioned 'spin around and you always come back to this toner' (openads 09-28). A feature that brands will pick up and use as content means it has become a format, not just a button.

The wooden fish and beads are what keep people around. Outfits, the AI monk and subscriptions are what make money. The only thing that brings in new users is this one photo slot.

### Where users come from

- **The creator's own account** . 김부따 is a creator who makes Buddhism-themed content, who started out with a 'Buddhist jazz' work playlist. The customer-service link in the app description reads 'search 김부따 on Instagram'. The earliest spread came from X reposting his Threads post.

- **User shares** . That's the 애착염주 above.

- **Korean listicle accounts, newsletters and media** . Dozens of Instagram listicle accounts posted '3 country #1'; the marketing newsletter Trend A Word, the marketing outlet openads, 《Weekly Donga》 and 《Buddhist News》 (11-05 feature) all covered it.

- **Overseas K-culture accounts repost it** . Facebook pages and Chinese-language Instagram accounts in Macau and Taiwan posted 'a Korean viral electronic prayer-bead app, swap the beads for your idol's photo, tap furiously before the concert ticket sale'. In an interview post, the creator said 'we did zero overseas marketing and still got #1 in 3 countries'. According to 《Buddhist News》, it reached #1 on the Health & Fitness free chart in Korea, Thailand, Taiwan and Vietnam.

- **Paid acquisition** : I found no evidence of ad spend, so it probably didn't buy any (unverified). TikTok wasn't its channel either; 김부따 has only a couple hundred followers there.

One more point: 'a one-person project' is the story told publicly. The developer is a Seoul company called BUG HOLE, formerly an NFT project that took money from KB Investment and Kakao Ventures. In 2026 September, it was 5 people. 《Buddhist News》 interviewed the CEO, 홍명근, who said 'the dev team is all Gen Z' and that the idea came from his own experience of 'turning the beads whenever work gets stressful'. The same company shipped 3 apps in 2 months; the other two had no measurable traction. What 김부따 and this company are really to each other is unclear from outside (my inference: the creator is the face, the company builds the product). A story like this is easy to tell, and it's why media and newsletters are willing to write about it for free.

### Sep 15 spike, then a slow decline

Android cumulative installs (Google Play; the September figures are third-party estimates and not precise by day):

| Date | Total installs |
|---|---|
| 08-12 | Launched |
| 09-14 | 244 |
| 09-15 | 8,457 |
| 09-23 | 26,672 |
| 10-05 | 40,647 |
| 10-27 | 48,024 |
| 11-05 | 49,843 (last 7 days, +1,819) |

The Android spike and the iOS climb to #1 happened on the same day, because both were prepared in advance. It has steadily declined since, to a hundred or two hundred a day.

The iOS scale is much bigger than Android: 3,651 ratings in Korea, average 4.88 (11-06), 934 in Thailand, 626 in Taiwan, 459 in Vietnam. Right now it's at #10-31 on Korea's Health & Fitness free chart, down from #12,11-06 to #40. In late October Korea had another wave of 'online temple' hype, and it climbed back on the category chart for a few days (inferred: it was pulled along by that). Still alive, but the peak is past.

### Who it's competing with

| Competitors | Scale | How it differs from 석가머니 |
|---|---|---|
| Wooden Fish - chanting helper (iOS, 2020) | 817k ratings in the China store; hit #2 on the China overall free chart in 2022 | A counter where one tap gives '+1 merit'. No progression, no outfits, no photo beads, no Korean |
| The 2022 wave of electronic wooden-fish clones | Dozens of them, most with a few dozen ratings | Same-looking counters, Chinese internet memes |
| My Blade and Shield - Cyberpunk Divine Beast Wooden Fish (iOS, 2026-03) | 2,576 ratings in the Taiwan store | Chinese internet meme direction |
| Korean-local beads, AI Buddha, meditation apps | From a few to three hundred ratings | Single-function or religion-focused, no gamification |
| Toss mini-program (wooden fish, beads, sutra lines), web page '산사' online temple (late October) | 산사 got 11-05 million cumulative visits in its first 7 days (《Buddhist News》 1.5) | No install needed, sits inside a finance app nearly every Korean has; no progression or subscription |

After the September spike, new iOS entries appeared: '힐링 목탁' (Healing Wooden Fish, Korea, 10-01), ZenAura Prayer Beads (10-15), Merit Wooden Fish (10-14), and the Japan-store '木魚' (10-24). Their ratings are all still 0. Plenty of people copied the wooden fish; none copied the volume. The biggest diverter of users was Toss: it's on everyone's phone, you tap and go, nothing to install.

### If it were you

**One-line verdict** : you can learn from it, but following it isn't worth much. Copying a Korean electronic wooden fish now is too late; building it for another country means the original has already prepared Thai, Vietnamese and Traditional Chinese versions and charted in those stores. What's really worth taking is a recipe: **a validated stress-relief micro-action (tap, spin, pinch) + a cultural symbol that's trending locally + a customization slot where users can put their own photo** , turning it into material fans want to share. Apply it next time to something else.

**Who it's for** : Indie devs with the hands to polish a small toy in two or three weeks, 1–2 people. You're inside a local subculture that's taking off and know what fans post and how they talk. You already have a creator account, or can find someone willing to front it.

**Who it doesn't suit** : anyone who wants to build another wooden-fish or beads app in Korea (Toss already offers it for free); anyone who wants to go deep on religion itself (it took off because it removed the religion); anyone who can only write code and doesn't understand fan-circle language (this product's moat is those few lines of copy and that photo slot; the code can be written in days).

**How to do it:**

1. Start by finding the 'symbol'. Check whether your market recently had an offline merch item sell out, a expo that young people crowded into, or a meme flooding X and Threads. 석가머니's signal was a wooden-fish keychain at Bongeunsa that sold out in 48 minutes. Only people with a ready-made app are in a position to catch the wave once the symbol heats up.

2. Make the mechanic a single gesture, and get the feel and sound right; leave a photo slot where people can drop in their bias, their pet, or even a brand product. Give a screenshot-worthy result at the end of each round ('peace luck +10').

3. Write the copy by 'when to use it', in the self-deprecating voice of local young people.

4. For the money, follow its structure: the subscription sells only ad removal and speed-ups, outfits are sold separately, and the core mechanic is free.

5. Launch on iOS and Android at the same time, with all languages ready from the start, so both platforms feed traffic on the day it takes off.

**How to get users** : have the creator account post the first piece, with a screenshot of a 'finished photo bead' string; follow the fan circles on X and Threads and give them a meme they can reuse; once it's on the national overall chart, overseas K-culture and J-culture news accounts will repost it for free into other countries. Have the news hook ready: lines like 'built by one person' and 'hit #1' are what get media to write about it.

**When to move before it's too late** : following this wave of Korean-trend Buddhism is already late. The recipe itself doesn't expire, but each window lasts only the few weeks when the symbol is hottest: prepare the foundation in advance and launch within a week of seeing the signal.

**What would show I got it wrong** : ① 석가머니 climbs back into the top 10 of Korea's category chart without any new event, with Android weekly installs back over 10,000. That would mean it's more than a fad, with real long-term retention, and it's worth seriously building what it left undone (like deeper progression and social features). ② The reverse: Toss or another big company adds 'photo beads' too. Then the one hard-to-copy part of this recipe is gone, and the next attempt has to be faster. ③ Copycat apps like the Japan-store '木魚' still have zero ratings after 30 days. That would confirm that a mechanic without the symbol and photo slot really doesn't take off, and the recipe's judgment holds.

## Seokgamoney: Buddha Luck (kim.seokgamoney.app) research report

Research date 2026-11-06. Data: our googleplay / appstore / metaads / googleads libraries (agent-im server), plus Jina web search, TikHub, x-radar, and iTunes lookup.

### One line

A Korean "low-effort stress relief" app: tap a wooden fish (목탁), spin prayer beads (염주), walk to earn "luck," then spend luck to dress Buddha statues, plus an AI monk to chat with. 2026-07-04 launched on iOS, 2026-09-14 and hit **#1 on the Korean App Store Top Free overall chart** , while Android installs climbed from 244 to 8,457 the same week. Part of the timing is luck: 2026 saw "hip Buddhism" (trendy Buddhism) take off among Koreans aged 20–30. The other part is a shareable feature: turning an idol's or pet's photo into prayer beads, called 애착염주 (attachment prayer beads). The core "digital wooden fish" mechanic is an old one that was a big hit in China 2022 years ago.

### 1. Who they are

- **Developer** : (주)버그홀 / BUG HOLE INC., Seoul, CEO 홍명근, founded 2019-08 [nicebizinfo, bugcity.io]. Predecessor was the Web3 / NFT project "Bugcity," backed by KB Investment and Kakao Ventures [Hankyung 2022-09-28, namu.wiki]. The website now describes itself as a "Software company and AX community" (AI apps and enterprise AI agent services), with 5 employees as of 2026-09 [thevc.kr/bughole].

- **Face of the brand** : Buddhist creator 김부따 (@kimbuddhaa), who makes Buddhist content on Threads, Instagram, and YouTube, starting with "Buddhist jazz" (a playlist used as work BGM) [Threads @kimbuddhaa; builder interview IG post]. The app's support link in the listing reads "Instagram '김부따'." Outside reports describe "one person handling planning, development, design, and marketing" [Trend A Word #623, X @mad_dogdebt]. But Buddhist Newspaper 2026-11-05 quotes CEO 홍명근 saying "the development team is all Millennials and Gen Z," and an mz100 post says "김부따 planning, 버그홀 production." So "one-person dev" looks like the public story, while the reality is a 5-person small company that has taken VC money, with the creator as the face.

- **Other apps from the same developer** (appstore library): Buddhamoji - Buddha Stickers (2026-08-26) and 셀프위키 (2026-09-07), neither measured.

- **Product** (iTunes lookup kr, 2026-11-04 update v1.0.36):
    - 목탁: tap 108 times; 염주: swipe to rotate beads, with bead materials like glass or wood and ASMR sounds, and you can **insert your own photo** (애착염주);
    - Walking to earn luck: connects to Apple Health, rewards a 복주머니 (lucky pouch) for walking 5,000 steps a day;
    - "부처핸섬" (Handsome Buddha): spend earned luck to dress Buddha statues, e.g., a gamer jacket with sunglasses;
    - "햄스님" (Hamsnim): AI monk chat; invite friends to practice in the same temple; hang a lantern wish so strangers chant for you; a daily sutra line;
    - 7 languages: Korean, English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese.

- **How it makes money** : "극락클럽" (Paradise Club) monthly subscription, which removes ads and doubles luck-earning speed; also sells luck and Buddha outfits. Google Play in-app purchases $0.79–8.99 [data card]. Revenue not disclosed.

### 2. Growth data

**iOS** (appstore library; iTunes lookup 2026-11-06):

- Korea 3,651 reviews, average 4.88; Thailand 934; Taiwan 626; Vietnam 459.

- 2026-09-14 reached #1 on the Korean Top Free overall chart [openads 2026-09-28; 김부따 pinned Threads post]. Buddhist Newspaper says it also hit the Health & Fitness Top Free chart at #1 in 4 storefronts: Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, and Vietnam.

- Now: Korea Health & Fitness Top Free #12 → #40 (10-31 to 11-06), reviews growing 10–35 a day; Vietnam 10-30 #149 → 11-03 #30 → 11-06 #80. Still alive, but past its peak.

**Google Play** (googleplay library app_day_ext; September figures are AppstoreSpy estimates):

| Date | Total installs |
|---|---|
| 2026-08-12 | Launched |
| 09-14 | 244 |
| 09-15 | 8,457 |
| 09-23 | 26,672 |
| 10-05 | 40,647 |
| 10-27 | 48,024 |
| 11-05 | 49,843 (last 7 days, +1,819) |

The Play surge and the iOS #1 Korea ranking happened on the **same day** , not iOS first and Android expansion later. Around Sep 15, it had 26k installs in 10 days, then decayed to one or two hundred a day. Latest category charts: Health & Fitness Top Free Vietnam #73, Thailand #109, Korea #130, Taiwan #149 (2026-11-06).

### 3. Competitors

| Competitors | Platform | Launched | Scale | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mokugyo - Chant Helper | iOS (mostly China) | 2020-07 | cn 816,795 reviews; tw 14,305; vn 2,144 (appstore library). Hit #2 on China's Top Free overall chart in 2022 [36 kr, buddhistdoor] | Just a counter that adds "merit +1" on each tap; no progression, outfits, or photo beads, and no Korean |
| The 2022 wave of "digital wooden fish" clones | iOS / Android / WeChat mini-program | From ¥2022-09 | Dozens of apps, most with only a few dozen reviews (appstore library) | Same-looking counters, Chinese internet memes |
| My Blade & Shield - Cyber Beast Mokugyo merit stress relief | iOS | 2026-03 | tw 2,576 reviews | Chinese meme-driven, not zen progression |
| 염주 - 로사리 / Prayer Beads | iOS | 2022-11 | kr 305 reviews | Single-function prayer beads |
| 연등 - AI 부처님 | iOS Korea | 2025-05 | kr 160 reviews | Read sutras + AI Buddha, leans religious |
| 비우다, 목탁 염주 - Meditation | iOS Korea | 2025–2026 | Single-digit ratings | Meditation / white noise, no gamification |
| Toss "apps-in-Toss" mini-apps: 목탁, 염주, sutra lines; "산사: Online Temple" | Big-company features / web | late 2026-10 | 산사 launched about 1 weeks ago with 1.5M cumulative visits [Buddhist Newspaper 11-05; toss.im blog] | No install, web / mini-app, lives inside the Korean KB Kookmin Bank app; no progression or subscription |
| Oo Taw (Buddha), 불교경전 불경 | Android | Around 2020 | 280k / 69k installs (googleplay library) | Traditional religious tools (Burmese language, sutras) |

Bottom line: the category isn't new. China ran a full nationwide wave on this 2022 years ago. This is the first version to combine this mechanic with **Korean language + progression + shareable photos** , and the timing fits.

### 4. Growth tactics (where users come from)

1. **Creator accounts + organic spread on Threads / X** (confirmed): 김부따 posted about the app on Threads, and the pinned post reads "Seokgamoney, #1 on the entire Korean App Store." Secondary spread on X, such as @mad_dogdebt's post 2026-09-15 (credited to "Threads kimbuddhaa"), reached 35.7k views. instablank says it "blew up on X and then reached #1."

2. **애착염주 photo-bead UGC** (confirmed): users turned idols' (최애) and pets' photos into beads and posted screenshots to X and Instagram with memes like "불안형 애착염주" and "팀 불안형 다 모여." Fan-circle play "최애랑 성불" (attain Buddhahood with your bias) was the main driver of spread [instablank, openads, many IG reels].

3. **Instagram aggregator / listicle accounts and newsletter reposts** (confirmed): dozens of Korean IG accounts posted "3 countries 1 place"; Trend A Word #623 and openads (알파앱스) also covered it.

4. **Media** (confirmed): Civic News 2026-09-20, Weekly Donga "Kim Sang-ha's What Is This Z?", Bulgyo Sinmun 2026-11-05 feature.

5. **Overseas via reposts, no ads** (reposts confirmed; "no ads" is only the creators' own claim): allinfun Macau (FB / IG / Threads), Marie Claire Taiwan FB, and Chinese IG accounts all posted "Korea's viral electronic prayer-bead app," pitched as "swap the beads for your idol's photo, tap furiously before the ticket drop." The builder interview (IG) says "3 countries 1 place without a single overseas marketing push." Vietnam, Thailand and Taiwan charted, mostly driven by K-culture fans reposting.

6. **Paid acquisition** : neither metaads nor googleads has tracked an advertiser for it (these libraries only cover products on their watch lists, so no hits doesn't mean no spend); no evidence of ads found. **Unverified, likely no paid acquisition** .

7. **Name piggybacking** (inferred): "Seokgamoney" shares a name with a real-estate and investing YouTuber, "Seokgamoney Jaetek", who has 55.6k subscribers. instablank even warns people not to mix them up. Whether this helps store search is unverified.

### 5. Why now (timing)

- Since 2024, "hip Buddhism" has been trending in Korea: 2026-04 Seoul International Buddhist Expo drew about 250k visitors, 20–30-year-olds made up 70% [Newsis, cited by openads]; 2026-06 the first permanent Buddhist merch store, "Bussjjok," opened.

- **In 2026-09-10, Bongeunsa's "Merit Keyring" (a wooden-fish keychain that rings) sold out in 48 minutes, limit 3 per person** [openads, citing Hankyung Magazine]. 4 days later, in Sep 14, Seokgamoney hit #1 on the overall chart. The keychain ignited demand for "tapping the wooden fish to earn merit," and this app was the free, instant digital version.

- Another wave of "online temple" hype hit at the end of October (online Sansa, online Palgongsan Gatbawi, Toss mini-programs). The iOS Korea category chart went from 10-30 to 11-01, climbing from #31 back to #12, and Play saw a small bump over the same stretch. Likely driven by this wave (inference).

### 6. What's the differentiation, and is it why it broke out?

- Compared with Chinese electronic wooden fish apps, it adds four things:
    - A "earn luck → spend luck" loop: the luck you accumulate dresses up the Buddha statue, and that also powers subscriptions and in-app purchases;
    - **Custom photo prayer beads** , something users want to share;
    - Step counting, which brings people back every day;
    - Korean self-deprecating copy, such as "Tapping until my arm aches, and I forget to be angry" and "Worries are free, luck is all yours."

- It swaps "merit" for "luck" (financial luck, health luck), dropping the religious barrier so non-believers can play too.

- **What actually pushed it to #1 is the Aejeok Yeomju** : the IG / X posts being shared are almost all about "turning your zodiac into prayer beads," not the wooden fish itself. The outfit swaps and AI monk are the retention and monetization pieces, not the acquisition pieces.

- But these differentiators are easy to copy: Toss mini-app and Sansa already have wooden fish and prayer beads, and since October a batch of new 목탁 / wooden-fish apps has appeared on iOS (see below).

### 7. Visibility and copycats

- **Visibility** : widely covered in Korea, including newsletters, marketing media, Weekly Donga and Bulgyo Sinmun; Chinese and Thai IG / FB accounts reposted it too. Revenue hasn't been disclosed and it hasn't appeared on TrustMRR-style leaderboards. English-language and big X accounts have barely covered it (x-radar searches for "Seokgamoney" and "석가머니" return 0 posts in the last 90 days).

- **Copycats** :
    - Healing Mokt'ak (iOS kr, 2026-10-01), ZenAura - Prayer Beads (10-15), Merit Wooden Fish - Endless Practice (10-14), Mokugyo - Wooden Fish Sound (jp, 10-24): all new apps launched after the September spike, all still rated 0;
    - Na-ui Buddha (kr, 09-02) launched before the spike, so it doesn't count as a copycat;
    - The Toss 앱인토스 mini-app and the web version of Sansa turned the wooden fish and prayer beads into no-install versions, and they're the biggest siphon of users.

### 8. What others can learn

- Take a proven "stress-relief tap" mechanic (tap, spin, squeeze), layer on a local cultural symbol that's trending (here, Korea's hip Buddhism), and add a **custom slot for users' own photos** so it becomes shareable fan content.

- Put a character with a persona out front: customer service runs through the creator's IG, and the public story is "one-person dev," which newsletters and media are more willing to cover. Behind it is a small company using AI to ship apps fast (the same team shipped 2 apps in 3 months).

- The next hit can copy its launch sequence: hit the home-country iOS overall chart first, launch on Android at the same time, prepare 7 languages in advance, and let overseas K-culture accounts repost it to Taiwan, Vietnam and Thailand for free.

- Subscriptions sell only "no ads + speed-ups" and leave the core mechanic alone, which is friendly to light users.

### 9. Still unclear

- The exact relationship between Kim Bu-tta and Bughole / Hong Myeong-geun (employee, partner, or outside creator), and how much of "one-person dev" is real.

- Revenue, and the subscription conversion rate.

- Whether there is any paid acquisition; which Threads / X post actually triggered the 9-14 spike (the original post wasn't retrieved).

- The September Android curve is an AppstoreSpy estimate, so daily numbers aren't precise.

- Seokgamoni (iOS 2025-04, developer Jong Won Moon) was described in an IG post as Kim Bu-tta's work; its relationship to Bughole is unverified.
