# A player-tool app got its start by alerting you whenever someone posts a weather event: Maple Tool for Taiwan's MapleStory

**What it is** A third-party tool app for players of the Taiwan server of 《MapleStory Worlds》... no. Correction: a third-party tool app for players of the Taiwan server of the new MapleStory. It checks characters, calculates combat power, tracks weekly bosses, sends reset and event reminders, and includes a Discord bot for guild raids. Free, with an optional Pro subscription.

**Why it took off** Similar tools are all web pages, and this is one of the few native apps. The author kept adding floors with updates to the same Bahamut thread, and during the Starry Night Circus event added 「sponsored weather push」 alerts, which only an app can do. Play installs rose from 10-29 to 11-06 between 314 and 1,258.

**B** **How you could follow it** Pick a game or server that has just opened its data API but whose community tools are all web pages. Start with 「don't miss it」 reminders: time-limited buffs, resets, and event deadlines. Post updates in the main forum thread, and add a Discord bot so guilds can connect.

Grade B: the playbook is clear, development cost is low, and almost no one knows about it, so it's worth copying. But the ceiling for one game on one server is very low. The Taiwan server is already taken by this app, and there are risks around game asset copyright and retention once the event ends. Not widely known yet

Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.

Maple Tool is a third-party app for Taiwan-server players of the new MapleStory, built by a Taiwanese developer alone. It's small: 1,258 installs on Google Play, 25 ratings on the Taiwan iOS store. But growth jumped sharply in late October, and it reached #4 on the Taiwan Play 「Personalization」 free chart. The reason it took off is clear: similar tools are web pages, it was built as an app that can push notifications, and it arrived right when a game event made every player afraid of missing out. The thing worth learning here is the playbook, not this game.

### A Bahamut post, and a reply under it that says 「push this one」

On the night of Oct 2026, 11, a player with the ID abc873693 posted on the Bahamut MapleStory board: "[Guide] Homemade Maple Tool App | Character lookup, power calculator, weekly reminders, now live on iOS/Android". The opening line read "Sharing a MapleStory tool app I built myself", followed by four features: character lookup, power calculation, weekly boss progress tracking, and assorted calculators. Lookup and calculation need no sign-up. At the end, the post openly credited its sources: the power calculation core was ported from community author Centre's open-source project MapleCombat, some features drew on MapleKit and MapleScouter, character data comes from NEXON's official Open API, and "thanks to all the authors for their work and sharing".

Over the next three weeks or so, he didn't open a new thread. Instead, he kept adding update logs to the same thread, one floor at a time: v1.89→1.99, 1.99→1.104, 1.108→1.121… 6 floors in total. Each new floor bumped the thread back to the top of the board, and the GP (Bahamut's like count) on the first floor rose from 230 to 391. One line in the v1.108→1.121 floor read:

> Circus weather: push a notification when someone posts weather, and warn 15 minutes before each circus session starts.

Only two replies from passersby appeared under the post. One of them said: 「Circus alerts are really useful, push this one」.

### What 「weather」 is, and why it's worth an app

Taiwan's annual 「Starry Night Circus」 event started on Oct 21 and ran until Dec 1. The event includes a 「30B sponsored weather」 mechanic: a player spends a large amount of in-game currency to set the weather, giving the whole server a two-hour experience boost. The system announces it only 3 minutes in advance, and anyone who misses it simply gets less XP. Many people on Bahamut and Facebook were discussing how not to miss it.

Web tools can't do this, because a web page can't call you when you're not looking at it. Maple Tool is an app, so it can push notifications. It later added weather coverage, a sponsor leaderboard, ringtones, custom alert sounds, and a Windows version that can pop up system notifications. In the opening of the v1.136 floor, the author wrote: 「Storms hit every region last weekend, so please check the weather forecast before the weekend.」

The timing lines up with Google Play install numbers and the Taiwan category chart, 10-29 to 11-06:

| Date | Play cumulative installs | New today | Taiwan 「Personalization」 free chart |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10-29 | 314 | — | #18 |
| 10-30 | 577 | +263 | #8 |
| 10-31 | 577 | 0 | **#4** |
| 11-02 | 1,111 | +534 | #19 |
| 11-03 | 1,206 | +95 | #22 |
| 11-06 | 1,258 | +52 | #20 |

The iOS Taiwan rating count rose during the same period from 5 (10-28) to 25 (11-05), with an average of 4.88. The post doesn't say which day the weather push launched, so 「the weather push drove this wave of installs」 is only a timing match, not proof (inference).

One more detail: on Play it's listed under 「Personalization」, not Tools or Entertainment. That chart in Taiwan has a very low bar, so a few hundred installs can move your rank, and a little over a thousand can keep you in the top 20. It has home-screen widgets, so the placement makes sense, but the chart exposure is essentially free.

### Lots of web tools, almost no apps

NEXON opened its Taiwan-server Open API in Oct 2025 15, releasing 25 endpoints at once. Over the next year a batch of lookup and calculator tools showed up in Taiwan, but nearly all of them were web apps:

| Competitors | Form | How Maple Tool differs |
|---|---|---|
| MapleKit | Web | The most-cited Taiwan-server tool site on Bahamut, with lookup, rankings, and progress calculators. No push notifications, widgets, or Discord. |
| Maple Friend | iOS + Android | The only real app competitor, with 51 ratings and 4.92 on the Taiwan iOS store. It only does lookup and rankings, and its last update was Sep 10. |
| MapleScouter | Web | A Korean cross-server combat power converter, which only calculates combat power. |
| Adventurer's Hut and others | Web | Multi-server lookup, rankings, and growth profiles. |

The data is the same (the official API), and the combat power algorithm is open source, so anyone can build 「lookup and calculate」. What sets Maple Tool apart is that it organizes features around what you need to do each day and each week. It reminds you of weekly tasks before the reset, shows the time left on Underground Sewer dungeons as an iOS Live Activity, and its desktop widgets display XP progress without opening the app. The Windows version can be set to click-through, always-on-top, and semi-transparent, so you can overlay it on the game screen. The latest iOS release (1.139.0,11-06) has a one-line changelog: 「Set a Snowy Night notification, and still forgot to play」. What it sells is 「remembering for you」.

### Where users come from

- **The Bahamut thread** . The target users are almost all on the new MapleStory board. About 50 version numbers were released in a month, and every changelog was posted back to the original thread. That's effectively free, continuous pinning, and it also collects feature requests (the thread keeps mentioning 「features everyone is asking for」).

- **Discord bot** . Guilds add the bot to their own servers to run raids, sign-ups, and leaderboards, and to use `/weather alerts`. Character and guild names in bot messages link to shareable maplet.me pages, which preview when pasted into chat and open directly in the app if installed. When one guild adds it, everyone in that guild sees it.

- **Channels not found** : no links to it on X, no related videos on TikTok, no ads, creators, or media coverage. The people who know about it are basically the players on that one Bahamut board.

### Where the money comes from

Free to download, with a Pro subscription. Play in-app purchases run $0.89–8.99. The paid features are things like equipment rankings and the Legendary Card, and the author justifies the cost by saying 「the database is expensive to run」 and 「the image processing happens on my own computer」. Tying the price to real costs hasn't annoyed the community. In November he fixed a bug with 「Android yearly subscription price and billing period」 and extended earlier subscribers by a year, which shows people are already paying annually. Revenue has not been disclosed; at this user count it's probably pocket-money level (estimate).

The author is a solo developer. His GitHub account has 118 public repositories, including one for a Flutter community meetup, which suggests he's a developer in Taiwan's Flutter community (inference). That also explains how he can maintain four platforms alone: iOS, Android, Windows, and web.

### If it were you

**B** : the playbook is clear and almost no one knows about it, so it's worth copying. But someone already holds this slice of the Taiwan server, and the ceiling is low, so you'd need to build for a different market.

**Who it suits** : developers who are heavy players of a long-running online game, can write cross-platform apps (Flutter, React Native), and have some standing in that game's main forum or Discord.

**Who it doesn't suit** : people who want to build a real business. A player tool for one game on one server caps out at a few thousand to tens of thousands of users. It uses the game company's assets, so it could be asked to come down at any time. The Windows version reads local game files, and players have already reported antivirus false positives.

**How to build it** : Find a game or server whose official data API just opened, where the community tools are all still web pages. (Other TMS servers and other MMOs with public APIs are worth checking too.) Don't start with lookups; that's the web's turf. Start with time-sensitive reminders: limited buffs, resets, event deadlines, boss party start times. Only push notifications, desktop widgets and live activities can do those. Use existing open-source and community calculators for lookups and calcs, and credit them openly in your posts. Only charge for features that actually cost you money.

**How to get users** : Post on the game's biggest forum, and add every update as a new floor in the same thread. Build a Discord bot that guilds can plug into. On Play, pick a category that's low-barrier and makes sense (a widget app fits under Personalization). Most important, watch the game's yearly event calendar, and ship a reminder for the most stressful timed mechanic before the event starts.

**When to launch** : There's no fixed deadline; the timing follows the game. Shipping a reminder feature one to two weeks before each major event is the best window to break out. For Maple Tool itself, the Starry Night Circus ended Dec 1.

**Signs you've misread it** : ① After the December circus ends, Play installs stop climbing and iOS ratings don't move. That means the wave was event-driven, and one-off reminder demand doesn't keep people. ② NEXON or Gamania (the Taiwan publisher) releases an official app, or issues a material-use warning against third-party tools. That path is closed once big companies own the space. ③ You look at other servers and games and find native apps with push reminders already exist. Then this gap is only open on TMS by accident.

Competitors

| Name | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs from this one |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MapleKit(maple-kit.com) | Web | 2025 H2 | A TMS tool site often cited on Bahamut, traffic unverified | Free web pages for lookups, rankings and progress calcs; no push, widgets or Discord boss parties |
| Maple Friend | iOS | 2025-12-03 (Android too) | 51 ratings on the iOS Taiwan store, 4.92, last updated 2026-09-10 | Only character lookup, rankings and growth tracking; no combat power simulation, weekly tasks, weather push or boss parties, and no updates for two months |
| MapleScouter | Web | Available on KMS since long ago, TMS version 2025 | An authoritative cross-server combat power converter | Only power conversion, no daily tracking or reminders |
| Mapler House (冒险者小屋) | Web | 2025-2026 | Not verified | Multi-server lookup, rankings and growth profiles on the web; no reminders |
| MapleStoryTools / is_it_good and other personal tools | Open source | Years | Small | Single-purpose calculators |

Where users come from

- **Verified** **Creator posted in the Bahamut New MapleStory board and kept adding floors** : 2026-10-11 posted the guide "Self-made Maple Tool App | Character lookup, power simulation, weekly reminders, now on iOS/Android" (forum.gamer.com.tw C.php?bsn=7650&snA=1038508). The creator then added 6 floors of version updates, and the first post's GP went from 230 to 391.

- Inferred **Game event timing (Starry Night Circus) + weather push feature** : The event ran 10/21–12/130. Sponsored weather at B10-31 is a server-wide timed buff. The app added weather push, and a reply said "The circus alert is really useful, recommend it." Play hit rank 4 at 11-02, with a single-day gain of +534.

- **Verified** **Discord bot + maplet.me share links** : Guilds can plug the bot into their Discord to run boss parties and check rankings. Share links (maplet.me) show a preview when pasted into chat, and open directly in the app if it's installed.

- **Verified** **Low-barrier PERSONALIZATION category on Play** : 1,258 installs was enough to rank #20 on the Taiwan Personalization free chart, peaking at #4.

## Maple Tool (me.rainvisitor.maple_tool): why it took off

> In one line: a third-party app for Taiwan (TMS) players of New MapleStory. It puts character lookup, combat power simulation, weekly progress, boss parties and push reminders in one app (iOS / Android / Windows / web), free with a Pro subscription. Built by solo developer Fang Chih-kang (Rainvisitor; Play developer name 房志剛, iOS "Chih-Kang Fang").

### Verdict

The numbers are small (1,258 installs on Play, 25 ratings on the iOS Taiwan store), so "took off" is relative. Three things stacked up to make it surface:

1. **The groundwork was laid in 2025-10** : NEXON 2025-10-15 opened the Taiwan server's Open API, and over the following year a batch of lookup/calculator tools appeared on the Taiwan server, though almost all of them were web pages;

2. **One channel** : the author 2026-10-11 posted a homemade tool on the Bahamut MapleStory Gossip board, then added a new floor to the same thread with a changelog every major release, so the thread kept getting bumped back up;

3. **One timing window** : The Taiwan yearly event "Starry Night Circus" ran from 10/21 to 12/1. It included a server-wide experience buff, "30 B sponsored weather", and the creator added "circus weather push" right in that stretch. The jumps in Play installs and iOS ratings both fell between 10/30 and 11/4.

Its differentiator is being a **native app** : push notifications, desktop widgets, Live Activities, a Windows floating window and a Discord boss-party bot are all things web tools can't do. The direct trigger for this surge was a reminder only an app can deliver, namely weather push. It also sits in Play's Personalization category, where the Taiwan chart's bar is very low: a thousand-odd installs could reach the top 20, earning some free chart exposure.

### 1. Data

- Play: the library shows 2026-10-29 as 314 installs and 11-06 as 1,258 installs. Single-day gains: +10-30, +263,11-02, +534,11-03, +95,11-06, +52; the other days were 0 (googleplay library app_day). Over 7 days it grew by 681.

- Play Taiwan PERSONALIZATION free chart: 10-29 at #18 → 10-30 at #8 → **10-31 at #4** → 11-01 at #9 → 11-02 at #19 → 11-03 at #22 → 11-04 at #23 → 11-05 at #16 (#74 in Hong Kong that day) → 11-06 at #20 (googleplay library chart_rank). Its best rank came on 10-31, and the big install jump came on 11-02, showing the chart's bar is extremely low: a few hundred installs can move the ranking.

- Play listing date: 2026-09-25. No ratings, and no reviews in the library.

- iOS (id 6798004758, Taiwan store): released 2026-10-02, Utilities category, best Taiwan free-chart rank #127. Rating count went 10-28 → 5 → 10-30 → 8 → 10-31 → 13 → 11-02 → 16 → 11-04 → 23 → 11-05 → 25, average 4.88 (appstore library app_day; iTunes lookup 2026-11-06).

- Frequent releases: the current iOS version is 1.139.0,2026-11-06, just shipped (iTunes lookup). The version numbers in the Bahamut thread ran from v1.89 up to v1.136, roughly 50 version numbers in one month.

- Pricing: Play in-app purchases at $0.89–8.99 per item (data card). The app has a free/Pro comparison, and gear rankings and the character card are subscription features (the creator said "because the database is expensive to run"). In November a fix was made for the "Android annual subscription price and billing cycle" issue, showing people are already paying annual fees (Bahamut thread v1.136 update). Revenue is not public.

### II. Competitors

Taiwan's data source is just one: the NEXON Open API, which **went live at 2025-10-15 2 p.m. with 25 new APIs** (Bahamut info post [forum.gamer.com.tw/C.php?bsn=7650&snA=1034608](https://forum.gamer.com.tw/C.php?bsn=7650&snA=1034608); beanfun announcement [maplestory.beanfun.com/bulletin?bid=75609](https://maplestory.beanfun.com/bulletin?bid=75609)). After that, character lookup tools in Taiwan started popping up fast. A "character lookup methods" roundup in Bahamut's Creative Zone 2026-08 lists Maplescouter, MapleKit, the MapleStory Player Monitor, TMSBug_v2, the Maple Friends app, Adventurer's Hut, and more (https://home.gamer.com.tw/artwork.php?sn=6292615).

| Competitors | Form | Launched | Scale | How Maple Tool differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MapleKit(maple-kit.com) | Web | 2025 second half (the Bahamut thread was still being updated in 7/26) | A TMS tool site often cited on Bahamut, specific traffic unverified | Free web pages: lookups, rankings, weapon/HEXA progress, boss info. No push, widgets or Discord. Some of Maple Tool's planned features and game data draw on it for reference. |
| Maple Friend (枫友, Wei Chih Fang) | iOS + Android | iOS 2025-12-03 | 51 ratings on the iOS Taiwan store, 4.92, last updated 2026-09-10 (iTunes lookup) | The most direct App competitor, but it only does character lookup, rankings and growth records. No power simulation, weekly tasks, boss parties or weather push, and it hasn't been updated in two months. |
| MapleScouter(maplescouter.com) | Web (Korean creator, with TMS volunteers) | Available on KMS since long ago; TMS version since 2025 | An authoritative cross-server combat power converter | Power conversion only. Maple Tool's combat power core was ported from Centre's open-source project MapleCombat. |
| Mapler House (冒险者小屋) | Web | 2025-2026 | Not verified | Lookup, rankings and growth profiles, multi-server (TMS/KMS/MSEA) |
| MapleStoryTools (lintx.github.io), shaogy's "is_it_good" and others | Open-source / personal web pages | Years | Small | Single-purpose calculators |
| Artale Kit, Maple Record, Maple Scout and others | Web | 2025-2026 | — | They cover Artale / the classic version, not the same game |
| Maple Pal(r/Maplestory) | Web/app | 2024 | Small | Track weekly tasks for GMS/EU, not TMS |
| Official | Big-company features | — | — | NEXON only provides an API; the beanfun website doesn't offer these tools |

Bottom line: TMS isn't short of tools, but they're **all web pages, single-purpose** . Only Maple Friend has made an App, and it only covers lookup. Maple Tool is the only one that packs lookup, simulation, weekly tasks, reminders, boss parties and multi-device sync into a native app, and it charges a subscription.

### 3. Where users come from (growth levers)

1. **Bahamut thread posted and kept adding floors (confirmed)** : 2026-10-11 posted the "[Guide] Self-made Maple Tool App | Character lookup, power simulation, weekly reminders, now on iOS/Android" (https://forum.gamer.com.tw/C.php?bsn=7650&snA=1038508). The creator then added v1.89→1.99, 1.99→1.104, 1.108→1.121, 1.123→1.128, 1.128→1.130, 1.130→1.136 in the thread, 6 floors of changelogs in total. Each new floor bumped the thread back up the board. The first post's GP went from 230 to 391. Around Nov 3 it was still prominent on the board list (search results showed "14 days ago…").

2. **Event timing: Starry Night Circus + weather push (strongly correlated, causation can't be proven directly)** : The yearly Taiwan event "Starry Night Circus in the Fallen City" started after maintenance on 10/20, running 10/21–12/1 (Bahamut roundup [forum.gamer.com.tw/C.php?bsn=7650&snA=1038539](https://forum.gamer.com.tw/C.php?bsn=7650&snA=1038539); GNN [gnn.gamer.com.tw/detail.php?sn=313782](https://gnn.gamer.com.tw/detail.php?sn=313782)). The event had "30 B sponsored weather": players pay to set the weather, giving a server-wide two-hour experience boost. The system only announces it 3 minutes ahead, so players are afraid of missing it (Facebook post, Bahamut discussion [forum.gamer.com.tw/C.php?bsn=7650&snA=1038622](https://forum.gamer.com.tw/C.php?bsn=7650&snA=1038622)). In update v1.108→1.121, Maple Tool added "circus weather: push when someone sets the weather, and alert 15 minutes before a show's schedule starts." Later it added coverage stats, a sponsor leaderboard, ringtones and custom ringtones. A reply in the thread: "The circus alert is really useful, recommend it." Play's #4 rank (10-31) and the single-day +534 (11-02) both fall in this period.

3. **Discord bot / share links (confirmed to exist; contribution unknown)** : Guilds can plug the bot into their own Discord server to run boss parties, sign-ups and rankings. Character and guild share links (maplet.me/g/…) show a preview when pasted into chat, and open directly in the app if it's installed. This is the viral loop for utility products.

4. **Store category choice (inferred)** : On Play it sits under PERSONALIZATION rather than Tools or Entertainment. The Taiwan chart's bar is very low: 1,258 installs was enough for #20,10-31, and it once peaked at #4. The reason may be that it has desktop widgets, so it doesn't look like a gimmick, but it did pick up free exposure.

5. **Channels not found** : x-radar searched maplet.me over the past 30 days and found 0 posts. No TikTok videos on it turned up. No ads, creators or media coverage were found.

### 4. Why it made the list

- **A native app's exclusive capability caught a "fear of missing out" moment** : Web tools can't push notifications. The pain point of "the weather goes off in 3 minutes, and missing it costs experience" can only be solved by push, which is why its value suddenly became obvious during the circus event.

- **Single high-density channel + frequent releases** : Nearly all target users are on the Bahamut New MapleStory board. The author shipped about 50 version numbers in one month and kept the changelog in the original post, which is ongoing free exposure that also collects requests.

- **Standing on open source and community shoulders** : The power core is ported from MapleCombat, game data references MapleKit, MapleScouter and community compilations, and data comes from the official Open API. The author credits each one in the post, so the community had no reason to push back. Low dev cost lets the effort go into the App experience.

- **Multi-platform coverage** : The Windows version can minimize to the system tray, is click-through, and overlays on the game. A Discord bot manages party-raid groups. The phone has widgets and Live Activities. Together they cover every "open it every day" scenario.

- **The author has the chops** : GitHub abc873693 (Rainvisitor), 118 public repos including flutter-meetup. Likely a developer from the Taiwan Flutter community, which is how one person maintains iOS, Android, Windows and web (background not verified).

### 5. Differentiation

- **Differentiation** : Same data (Open API), same algorithms (open source). Others built web pages; this one built a "native App with reminders + Discord raid bot + Windows floating window," organized by "what you do daily/weekly" rather than "look something up."

- **Is that why it took off?** Yes. Weather push notifications, weekly reset reminders and Discord raid-start alerts are things only the App and bot can do. User feedback (the Circus alert is useful) and the timing of the install jump line up. The lookup and calculator features alone are not the differentiator; web pages had them long ago.

### 6. Visibility and copycats

- **Visibility: few people know about it yet.** It has only spread within the small Bahamut New MapleStory board circle. Revenue is not public, no media or X influencers have covered it, and there is nothing on TikTok.

- **Copycats: none found.** Maple Friend is an earlier App, so it doesn't count as a copycat.

### VII. What to take away

- Once public APIs are out, look for games (or other niche verticals) where web tools are saturated but nobody has built a native App. Use push notifications, widgets and Live Activities to solve the time-sensitive pain of "afraid of missing out."

- A game's annual events are a natural growth node: identify the most stressful time-limited mechanics in advance and turn them into reminder features.

- Post in the core forum, then keep adding floors to the same thread with changelogs. It's less annoying than reposting each time and keeps the thread bumped.

- On Play, pick low-barrier categories (personalization) as long as the features make sense there.

- Treat the Discord bot as a community acquisition loop: once a server adds it, everyone in that server gets exposed to it.

- The subscription's pricing logic ties to cost (only features with heavy database overhead are paid), which makes it easier for the community to accept.

### 8. Not sure

- Retention and paid conversion are completely unknown. Play has 1,258 installs and iOS has 25 ratings, a very small scale. Whether it drops after the event 12/1 ends needs another look.

- The weather push and the install jump are only correlated in time, with no direct attribution evidence. The exact launch date is also unverified (the thread's update floors carry no dates).

- Copyright risk: it uses NEXON game assets, and the Windows version reads local game files for the outfit simulator. A user replied that antivirus software flagged it, which could hurt reputation.

- The author's background (Flutter community) is an inference.

- Whether it can be copied to other servers (GMS/KMS/MSEA): the Open API exists, but the communities and competitive landscape on those servers were not researched.

This article was written by AI from public data and the data we collect daily. Numbers are sourced, and inferences are labeled.
