It hit the US Photography Top Grossing chart after 150K installs: an Istanbul tool studio's AI photo app, re-skinned and relaunched
What it is An AI photo and video app on Android: one selfie generates portrait shots, dance videos, tiny figurines, and hairstyle changes, plus collages on the side. 3-day trial, then $9.99 a week.
Why it took off Mor Tosbaa in Istanbul took its own AI photo app, which had already reached 1.31M installs, changed the brand, removed the ads, switched to a weekly subscription, and relaunched it. It only buys users in Australia, the US, and Western Europe, and the title borrows the old search term "collage." A small number of users was enough to earn a respectable revenue ranking.
CHow you could follow it Don't enter the AI portrait category. Copy the playbook: one generation backend, reskinned into multiple apps; pick a template scene that isn't crowded yet; use a weekly subscription, and run Meta / Google app ads only in high-paying countries.

Mosa AI is an AI photo and video app on Android. It was only listed at the end of August in 2026, with just 157K installs, yet it already ranks #17 in Australia's Photography Top Grossing and #46–55 in the US. None of its features are new. It got traction because of three things: a tool company relaunched its proven playbook under a new brand, bought users only in high-paying countries, and charged a weekly subscription. What's worth learning is the playbook, not the product. This category is already packed.
"3 days free, then $9.99 a week"
In Sep 2026 20, a US user left a one-line review of Mosa on Google Play:
3 day "free" trial, then $9.99 a week.
He put "free" in quotes. 7 people marked it helpful, making it the most-liked review on the app. In Oct 13, another user wrote: "I bought 2500 credits and made a video, but it never generated and there was nothing in my gallery."
These two reviews pretty much sum up Mosa's business model: a 3-day free trial, then a weekly charge, plus selling credits for generating videos. The in-app purchase prices listed on the store page run $9.99–14.99 per item.
What it is
The first line of the store page reads "One photo, turned into portraits, videos, or collages." The features fall into four blocks:
- AI portraits: studio-style portraits from one selfie, couple and family photos, photos with your own cats and dogs, 3D cartoon avatars, and a "mini doll" effect that turns you into a collectible figurine.
- AI video: make people in photos dance, add a celebration clip to a family photo, and "hero mode" cinematic videos.
- Collages: traditional grids and templates.
- Hair changes and retouching.
The store description pitches it this way: "Most people use one app for collages, another for AI portraits, another for photo-to-video, and another for hairstyles. Mosa AI does all four."
The underlying generation models are licensed from others, and portraits, dancing, figurines, and hair changes have been standard features of this type of app since 2025–2026. It has only shipped an Android version; it can't be found on the App Store (iTunes lookup, 11-06).
Who's behind it: a tool company that makes everything
The developer, Mor Tosbaa Mobile, is a company based in the Kağıthane district of Istanbul. Its main Google Play product is Radar GO-X, a speed-camera radar app launched in 2021 (25.6M installs). It also has a US driver's license question bank, flashcards, AI music generation, car widgets, flight tracking, and truck navigation, and it releases a new app every month or two in whatever category is hot.
Mosa is its second bet in AI photos. The first was the AI Trend Photo Editor (listed as PixinArt in the store), launched in April 2025, with 1.31M installs on Google Play. Its iOS version launched in June 2026, and the German version reached the top ten of the Swiss iPhone Photo chart in August (per the Sensor Tower chart page).
Put the two store pages side by side and the template is identical. PixinArt's description reads "Most people use one app for cartoon avatars, another for retouching, another for hair changes, another for basic editing. PixinArt puts it all in one interface," which nearly matches Mosa's "four apps become one" line almost word for word. What changed is how it makes money. PixinArt is marked "contains ads," and the most common complaint in its reviews is "too many pop-up ads"; some also complain "I paid for the weekly subscription but it still says I hit the daily limit." Mosa's store page has no "contains ads" label, just in-app purchases and subscriptions.
The same AI capabilities, with a new name, a collage feature added, ads removed, and weekly billing, relaunched. There's a whole crowd of teams in and around Istanbul doing this: Codeway (Retake AI), HubX, and SPARK DYNAMICS, which makes Pose. Mor Tosbaa is one of the smaller players in that group.
How it took off
Install curve (cumulative Google Play installs, historical estimates from AppstoreSpy):
| Date | Total installs |
|---|---|
| 9-14 | 2,322 |
| 10-01 | 19,463 |
| 10-27 | 132,179 |
| 11-06 | 156,893 |
In September it added several hundred to a thousand a day, averaging about 4,300 a day in October. November slowed, and 11-05 and 11-06 added only 908 and 303 (the store updates cumulative totals in batches, so don't trust single-day figures too much). In the last 7 days it still gained 24.7K, about +16%.
Where the users come from: almost certainly bought.
- Its free-chart ranks show up in Australia (Photography free #15–19), the US, and also Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, Italy, France, and Germany (#100–200). In the same period, most of the dozens of AI photo apps grew through volume in India, Southeast Asia, and Latin America; Mosa is in none of those places. The most likely explanation for routing users so precisely to high-paying countries is Meta or Google paid ads (inference).
- There's a Facebook page called "Mosa: AI Photo & Video Collage" listed as run by MOR TOSBAA, with only 105 followers. In Oct 29 it posted one ad-style video with the title "Turn Photos Into Magic / One photo, endless possibilities." So few followers, yet it has polished ad-style videos, which fits a page that exists mainly to host ads. I couldn't find how many ads ran or how much was spent.
- Organic spread is close to zero: searching "mosa ai" on TikTok turns up unrelated things with the same name, nobody has mentioned it on X in the last 60 days, there's no media coverage, and it has never been featured on Product Hunt.
Store search terms: the title "Collage & AI Video" pairs the decade-old search term "collage" with the trending "AI video." The description then lists dance video, minidoll, hair changer, and pet portrait one after another. Collages aren't important to the product, but they matter a lot in the search box.
Rating: 4.7 stars from 7,433 ratings, which is 4.7% of installs. The same developer's PixinArt and AI music app are both around 0.3%, while comparable AI photo apps of the period were mostly at 0.02%–0.5%. Only 52 of the 7,433 ratings include text. A rating rate this high usually means the app shows an aggressive rating prompt (inference; whether ratings are exchanged for credits is unverified). There's another signal: on 11-06 the total rating count actually dropped by 34, and the 5-star count fell from 6,205 to 6,129, possibly because Google is cleaning out suspicious ratings (inference).
Where the money comes from
Mosa's installs are less than a tenth of the popular AI photo apps of the same period, yet it ranks higher on the Photography Top Grossing charts: #17 in Australia, #30–36 in Argentina, #46–55 in the US, and #52–53 in Mexico (Google Play Photography category Top Grossing charts, 10-29 to 11-06). Singapore, the UAE, South Africa, Nigeria, Vietnam, the Netherlands, and Poland all show it stuck at #79–80 at the same time. That looks like a shadow of one aggregated chart appearing in each storefront, not evidence of real revenue in those countries.
At $9.99 a week and buying only users in high-paying countries, a few thousand to over ten thousand paying users could be enough to push it into the US Photography Top 60 (estimate). The combined monthly in-app revenue of this company's 14 apps is estimated by AppGazers' model at $3.8K–74.7K. That range is too wide to say much beyond the fact that it isn't a big company. How much Mosa itself earns can't be determined from the outside.
Who it's competing with
Nearly everyone. "One selfie for portraits, dance videos, figurines, and hair changes, billed weekly" has been one of the most crowded app categories in 2025–2026:
| Competitors | Scale (Google Play installs) | Compared with Mosa |
|---|---|---|
| PixVerse, Hailuo AI | 79.6M / 27.8M, US Photography Top Grossing #3, #4 | Big companies with their own video models |
| Hype AI, Glam AI, AI Mirror, Retake AI | 3M–24M | Established AI portrait / video subscription apps |
| Pose (SPARK DYNAMICS, also in Istanbul) | 1.19M, #17 in US Photography top-grossing | Same city, same playbook, launched almost a year earlier |
| Shots, Dance AI (DeePix) | 2.55M / 1.33M | Same category, more than ten times the volume |
| Momo, DanceHit (ScaleUp) | 8.3M / 406k | Also sells template videos. DanceHit only does dance. |
| Dozens of new listings from the past 2026 years, such as AI Art Magic | 1M–7.7M each | Scaled through paid acquisition in India, Southeast Asia, and Latin America, monetized with ads |
| PicCollage, SCRL | 107M / 25.1M | Collage market leader, weak AI features |
| Google Photos, Gemini, Meta AI | Free, built in, hundreds of millions of users | Free, but you have to find the entry point and write the prompts yourself |
Mosa sells "no prompt skills needed, tap a template and get the result." Gemini's figurine images and Google Photos' photo-to-video are chasing this too, and they're free.
If it were you
In one line: You can learn a playbook from it, but don't enter this category. The table is already packed. Mosa got a seat because the factory behind it had already run the backend, templates, ads, and subscriptions.
Who it's for: Small teams that already have a working AI generation backend and subscription flow, can buy Meta or Google app ads, and can calculate payback per user. For you, Mosa's playbook can be used directly: one backend, multiple brands and package names, and you scale whichever one works.
Who it's not for: Indie developers starting from zero with no ad experience. There's no product moat here. You'd be competing with dozens of factories in Istanbul that do exactly this, two big players with in-house models, and free offerings from Google and Meta for the same users. It's also not for anyone counting on TikTok organic reach or organic store traffic, since Mosa itself is near zero on both.
How to do it: Use the idea behind it, but pick a template category that isn't saturated yet, not AI portraits. The playbook: pick a single scenario where people will pay for the result, build "tap a template, get the result" on an existing generation API, put one proven high-traffic search term plus one new hot term in the title, offer a 3-day trial plus a weekly subscription, reskin the same backend and launch several times, and add budget to whichever one pays back.
How to acquire users: Run Meta and Google app install ads only in high-paying countries like the US, Australia, and Western Europe. Creatives are short before-and-after videos of "one photo turned into X." Don't chase volume in India or Southeast Asia. That's an ad-monetization play and doesn't fit a weekly subscription.
Deadline: No clear deadline. New apps in this category launch every month, and Google and Meta's free features keep eating into demand, so the later you enter, the more crowded it gets.
Signs you've read it wrong: ① If Mosa's US Photo Top Grossing rank climbs into the top 30 in December while installs barely grow, then the "few users, high-priced subscription" path is wider than it looks and worth pursuing seriously. ② Conversely, if November new installs stay at a few hundred per day and the rank keeps sliding, paid acquisition has stopped paying off, and even experienced factories only captured one month of the window. ③ If Google mass-cleans its ratings or delists it, then the "inflate ratings" tactic has broken this playbook.

Why Mosa AI: Collage & AI Video (mosa.studio.ai.editor) was able to run
Channel: Google Play | Developer: Mor Tosbaa Mobile (MOR TOSBAA MOBİL ÇÖZÜMLER A.Ş., Kağıthane, Istanbul) | Store launch 2026-08-27 | Research date 2026-11-06
Bottom line
It didn't succeed because of a novel product. It's a multi-app "tool factory" in Istanbul that took its own proven playbooks (AI template portraits / dance videos / mini-doll images, with a 3-day trial then $9.99/week), swapped the brand name and package name, targeted high-paying markets in Europe, the US, and Australia, and added the old demand for "collage" as a store search term. It's a second bet that worked. Installs are only 157k, but it reached #17 on the Australian Photo Top Grossing chart and #46–55 in the US. Revenue per install is far higher than that of the dozens of volume-driven AI photo apps launched in the same period. Few people know about it yet, but this category is already packed.
1. Data (our googleplay library)
- Installs: 2026-11-06 total 156,893, +24,685 (about +16%) in the last 7 days. 7,433 ratings, 4.68 stars; only 52 written reviews.
- Growth curve since launch (app_day_ext, AppstoreSpy estimates): 9-14 2,322 → 10-01 19,463 → 10-27 132,179 → 11-06 156,893. September averaged about 500–1,000 per day, October about 4,300 per day (the big jumps on 10-04, 10-08, 10-21, and 10-22 of 1.3–19k are likely due to the store updating cumulative install counts in batches, so don't take single-day figures at face value). November slowed to about 3,500 per day, with 11-05 and 11-06 at only 908 and 303.
- Charts (chart_rank, 10-29 to 11-06): Photo Top Grossing best rank was #17 in Australia and #30 in Argentina, #46–55 in the US, and #52 in Mexico. Photo Top Free ranked #15–19 in Australia and #74–135 in the US, with Spain, Poland, Netherlands, Italy, France, and Germany at #100–200 and sliding. Top Grossing in Singapore, UAE, South Africa, Nigeria, Vietnam, Malaysia, Netherlands, and Poland all sat at #74–80, which matches the suspicion in the summary card: it's the same aggregated chart, so these countries don't actually generate revenue.
- Pricing (Play page, US store): In-app purchases, product prices $9.99–$14.99. 2026-09-20 One review says "3 day free trial, then $9.99 a week." Another review mentions "2500 credits," which suggests a subscription plus credits.
- Android only: Mosa isn't in the App Store search. This developer's iOS account (id1891705683) doesn't list this app (iTunes lookup, 2026-11-06).
2. Developer: a multi-app tool factory in Istanbul
- Our database shows 9 apps from this developer with 29.4M installs combined, led by Radar GO-X (25.6M) from 2021 years ago. Others include a driving-test question bank (1.33M), flashcards, AI Trend Photo Editor (2025-41.3M), AI music generation, car widgets, flight tracking, and truck navigation. A new app ships every month or two, across many categories (googleplay developer / app tables). AppBrain counts 13 apps and about 80M installs. AppGazers estimates combined monthly in-app purchase revenue of $3.8K–$74.7K across 14 apps (model estimate).
- Mosa is the developer's second bet in AI photo apps. The first was AI Trend Photo Editor (1.31M installs on Play, +38k in the last 7 days; iOS version launched as 2026-06; Sensor Tower shows its German version, "KI Trend Foto-Editor", reached the top ten of the Swiss iPhone photo chart at 2026-08). Mosa uses the same AI capabilities (portrait styles, cartoons, hairstyle changes), with a new brand, a "collage" feature, and a different monetization model.
- There's a large cluster of teams in and around Istanbul building this kind of templated AI photo/video subscription app: Codeway (Retake AI), HubX (AI Video), and SPARK DYNAMICS (Pose, launched 2025-10, 1.19M installs, US Photo Top Grossing #17). Mor Tosbaa is on the smaller end of this group.
3. Competitors
Plenty of products do the same thing (one selfie → AI portrait / dance video / mini-doll / hairstyle change, billed weekly). US Photo Top Grossing as of 2026-11-06 (our googleplay database):
| Product | Channel | Launched | Scale (Play installs) | How Mosa differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PixVerse / Hailuo AI | Android+iOS | 2024-09 / 2025-01 | 79.6M / 27.8M, US Photo Top Grossing #3 / #4 | Big player with in-house video models; Mosa only reskins and calls them |
| Momo / DanceHit(ScaleUp) | Android | 2022-12 / 2026-07 | 8.3M / 406k | Also sells template videos. DanceHit only does dance; Mosa packs portraits, video, and collage into one app. |
| Shots / Dance AI(DeePix AI Apps) | Android | 2025-07 / 2026-01 | 2.55M / 1.33M | Same approach, more than ten times Mosa's volume |
| Pose (SPARK DYNAMICS, Istanbul) | Android | 2025-10 | 1.19M, US Top Grossing #17 | Almost the same playbook from the same city, one year earlier |
| Hype AI (ORIGO), Glam AI, AI Mirror, Retake AI (Codeway) | Android+iOS | 2023–2026 | 3M–24M | Long-running AI photo / video subscription apps |
| PicCollage, SCRL | Android+iOS | 2012 / 2024 | 107M / 25.1M | The collage king, with weak AI features; Mosa borrowed the search term "collage" |
| A dozen-plus new apps from the past 2026 years, like AI Art Magic and AI Image Generator | Android | From ¥2026-05 | 1M–7.7M, +100k–500k a week | Mostly grew through installs in India, Southeast Asia, and Latin America, monetized via ads; Mosa has low installs but ranks high on revenue |
| The same company's AI Trend Photo Editor | Android+iOS | 2025-04 | 1.31M | Same company, same category; Mosa is the reskinned second copy |
| Google Photos Remix / photo-to-video, Gemini (Nano Banana) figurine images, Meta AI Vibes | Big-company features | 2025–2026 | Free, with installs in the hundreds of millions | Free and built in; Mosa sells "no prompt writing, tap once and get a result" |
Verdict: there's no empty market here. It's one of hundreds of template AI photo apps in a red ocean.
4. Growth tactics
- Meta paid ads (evidence exists, but scale is not visible): On Facebook there's an app page for "Mosa: AI Photo & Video Collage" (page id 61594068024806, listed as run by MOR TOSBAA MOBİL ÇÖZÜMLER ANONİM ŞİRKETİ, with only 105 followers), and 2026-10-29 posted an ad-style creative video, "Turn Photos Into Magic / One photo, endless possibilities." Few followers but ready-made ad-style video fits a page used mainly to host ads. The Meta Ad Library page doesn't render, and our metaads library hasn't indexed this page, so how many ads and how much spend remain unverified.
- Google / TikTok ads: not found in our libraries. googleads found no advertiser by legal name, product name, or domain (status no_ads); tiktokads lists it, but we haven't checked yet. This only means no TikTok European ads and no Google ads under this company name; it doesn't prove it didn't advertise (UAC often runs through agency accounts).
- Inferred to be paid acquisition from the regional mix: its free-chart ranks sit in high-paying markets like Australia, the US, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, Italy, France, and Germany, not the India, Southeast Asia, and Latin America where comparable AI photo apps get their installs. Only 157k installs, yet it charts #46–#55 in the US Top Grossing. With no organic spread on TikTok or X and no presence on any large market's overall chart, the most likely way to deliver users precisely to these countries is Meta / Google paid ads. This is an inference.
- Store search terms (ASO): The title is "Collage & AI Video," pairing the high-traffic old term "collage" with "AI Video," and the description lists a long run of trending keywords: dance video, minidoll, hair changer, pet portrait.
- Ratings: The rating count is 4.7% of installs, yet there are only 52 written reviews. It likely prompts users in-app for a rating (possibly offering points for ratings, unverified), pushing the store rating to 4.7 to lift conversion.
- Organic spread: none. A TikHub search for "mosa ai" only returns unrelated things with the same name; the X corpus (x-radar, last 60 days) has no relevant posts; no press coverage, and it hasn't launched on Product Hunt.
5. Why it took off
- Playbook copied from a proven one: The same company's AI Trend Photo Editor already reached 1.31M installs and entered the top ten of European iOS photo charts. Mosa reruns the same capability under a new package name: low risk, fast to scale (googleplay developer table, Sensor Tower chart pages).
- Money comes from weekly subscriptions in high-paying markets: After a 3-day trial, it's $9.99/week (Play reviews), with ads concentrated in Australia, the US, and Western Europe, so 150k installs was enough to reach #17 in the Australia Photo Top Grossing and #46–#55 in the US (chart_rank).
- Bundling collage and AI: "Collage" lets it capture search traffic, and "one app replaces four" is its own pitch in the description (Play description).
- High ratings (4.7 stars, rating count at 4.7% of installs), which lifts its conversion rate in the store.
6. Differentiation
Weak product differentiation: portrait styles, dance videos, mini dolls, and hairstyle swaps are standard across template AI photo apps from the past 2025–2026 years, and the underlying models are third-party. Its one real angle is combining the old "collage" tool with AI generation in one app, and the title leans on that. But this reads more like a store-search tactic than a reason users stay. It got traction through the same company's replication ability, targeting high-paying markets, and weekly-subscription pricing, not differentiation.
7. How many people see it, and whether copycats are following
- Few people know about it yet: revenue isn't public, and no media outlets or major X accounts have written about it. Only auto-generated pages from AppBrain, Softonic, CNET download sites, Apptopia, and Similarweb exist.
- Copycats: there's no real copycat, since it is itself following a category that is already crowded.
8. What others can borrow
- "When one app wins, reskin and relaunch": the same AI backend keeps shipping under new package names and new brands, so failure costs little.
- Low installs but high revenue rank: it skips the mass installs in India and Southeast Asia and buys only users in Australia, the US, and Western Europe, pairing them with a $9.99/week subscription, and 150k installs was enough to reach #60 in the US Photo Top Grossing.
- The title stitches an old high-traffic search term (collage) to a new hot term (AI video).
- Leans on a high share of ratings to lift conversion (with the risk of policy violations and purged reviews).
9. Still unclear
- Unverified: how many ads it actually runs on Meta and how much it spends, and whether it runs Google UAC.
- Actual revenue: it ranks 74–80 on Top Grossing in several countries at once, a shadow of the overall chart; only the Australia 17 and US 46–55 rankings are fairly credible.
- Unverified: why its rating share is high (in-app prompts? points-for-ratings? rating manipulation?), and whether the drop in 11-06 ratings is Google cleanup.
- New installs clearly slowed in November (11-05, 11-06 a day in the hundreds), which could mean ad spend was cut or just a lag in the store's cumulative counts.
- Retention and refunds: our library has no review sample for it. Negative reviews visible on the Play page include "3-day 'free' trial then $9.99/week" and "bought credits but nothing generated."
