Indian video chat app that hit 190k installs in three weeks: Bandi isn't a product, it's a package
What it is: an Android one-on-one video chat app for users in India and South Asian communities in the Gulf. It matches users with strangers for video calls and sells coins for virtual gifts.
Why it took off: the same template, rebranded with a new name and a new developer account, went live as a new package. Roughly three weeks after launch, following two weeks of quiet, paid acquisition (inferred) pushed it onto social free charts in several countries. Installs came from India, while the people paying were likely South Asian expats in the Gulf. When the budget stopped, the chart presence dropped off, and the next package, Bandi Lite, is already in the pipeline.
D How you could approach it: don't build another video chat package. What's worth borrowing is the playbook: run one package, then split it into lite / pro / plus versions to rotate through new-app traffic. Use cheap countries for free installs and high-purchasing-power audiences for payments, and apply it to a compliant category with real value.

Bandi is a one-on-one video chat Android app built for India. It launched in Oct 7, hit about 190k installs in three weeks, and at one point charted #30 in the social Top Free chart in India, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. Growth nearly flatlined after Nov 3. Behind it is a matrix of white-label clones with Hindi-flavored, suggestive names: same template, swap the name, swap the developer account, and you have a new package. Bandi is just the one in this batch that got the heaviest paid push. Below: how this operation works, where the money comes from, and why we don't recommend copying it.
A one-star review with 22 likes
In October 18, an Indian user named Shashi Ram left a comment on Bandi's Google Play page: "this I am doing fake calls and fake police calls please don't subscribe." By November 6, 22 people had marked it helpful, making it the top comment on the app's page. Right below it was another: "total fake and money waste app plz don't install." The third was a five-word positive review, "so lovely and best aap," marked helpful by 19 people.
Those three comments more or less cover the whole app: someone paid and felt cheated, someone is posting fake reviews, and almost nobody is talking about the product itself.
How its curve took shape
Bandi was quiet for its first two weeks. Google Play install counts since then (before 10-29, the figures are third-party estimates):
| Date | Installs |
|---|---|
| 10-22 | 39k |
| 10-26 | 108k |
| 10-31 | 152k |
| 11-03 | About 190k |
| 11-06 | 191k |
From 10-22 to 11-03 it gained about 150k in twelve days, but from 11-03 to 11-06 only 1,070 more in three. The charts show the same shape: 10-29 it charted at the same time in India's social free chart at #20, UAE at #26 and Saudi at #26; 11-02 India dropped to #72,11-04, and from #154,11-05 it was nowhere on any chart.
Several countries charting on the same day and all dropping off within a week doesn't look like word of mouth, which builds and fades slowly. It looks more like country-targeted paid acquisition that stopped when the budget did (inference: we can't see the channels or the spend). Bandi has no presence on TikTok, X or in the press. The only related YouTube video, "bandi app review | fake bandi app video call," has 56 views.
What it sells
The store copy is standard boilerplate: "joyful platform for your live video call", "Just click start and dive into an instant live video call", "Send amazing virtual gifts". The loop is: tap start, get matched with a stranger on video, send virtual gifts. Gifts cost coins, in-app purchases run $1.09 to $37.99 per item, and the store lists "Contains ads, In-app purchases, 17+".
Who's paying? On the Top Free chart it's mostly India, but on Top Grossing it only shows up in the UAE (#121–135), Saudi Arabia (#157–200), and the tail of India. So most installs are probably in India, and most of the spending is probably South Asian men working in the Gulf (inference). A third-party estimate puts its one-month in-app revenue under $5,000, and that model's download estimate is lower than the actual install count, so revenue is likely undercounted too.
"Fake calls" in the bad reviews is a common trick in this kind of app: you get a "call" as soon as you open it, pick up, and it's a recording or a bot pushing you to top up. I haven't verified exactly how Bandi does it. Another detail: 190k installs map to 7,270 reviews, about 3.8%, where a typical app is around 1%. That suggests reviews bought with coins (unverified).
Behind it: the same template, a dozen Hindi names
Bandi's package name is org.bandichat.team, the developer is "Bandi Team", and the contact email is [email protected], which looks like a small organic food shop. Searching Google Play for the same pattern turns up a string of apps that look identical:
| App | Launched | Installs (around 11-06) |
|---|---|---|
| Salwa / Hameet / Duoo Salwa | 2025-11 | 920k / 660k / 490k |
| XHub | 2025-10 | 920k |
| SalwaJoy | 2026-07 | 490k |
| Mohini | 2026-07 | 330k |
| Tarki Chat | 2026-06 | 180k |
| Halwa / Halwa pro | 2026-09 / 10 | 35k / 62k |
| Milna / Pro / Plus | 2026-09 / 10 | 35k / 35k / 11k |
| Lawa Max | 2026-10-21 | 7k |
| Bandi | 2026-10-07 | 190k |
| Bandi Lite | 2026-10-28 | 9 |
What they share: package names in the form org.<name>.<suffix>, developers named "<name> Team", random-name Gmail contacts, identical in-app purchase price tiers, and privacy policies hosted on throwaway domains (mostly .click) at /privacy.html. Bandi's privacy page and Halwa's and Salwa's share word-for-word paragraphs, including the same grammatical slip, "your current location can derived from your GPS". The homepage of bandichat.net opens to an empty Amazon S3 bucket; the whole domain exists just to host that one page.
The names follow a pattern too: Halwa (a sweet), Milna ("meeting"), Mohini ("beauty"), Tarki ("cheeky"), Bandi (Hindi slang for girl or girlfriend). All are Hindi words with a flirtatious edge.
The Bandi Team account also has an unrelated math game, "Math brain", whose package name is Android Studio's default com.dominowin.myapplication. Halwa Team's account has a "Learning Japanese" app too. It looks like a harmless utility is used to age the account before the sensitive social app goes up (inference).
In this batch, Bandi was the fastest riser among October's new apps: +82k in the last 7 days, while Halwa pro was +45k and Milna Pro +22k over the same stretch. Bandi Lite was already live 6 days before it stopped getting new installs. Same rhythm as Halwa→Halwa pro and Milna→Milna Pro: one app rides two or three weeks of new-app traffic, and the next one gets set up before it stops, which also spreads the risk of being taken down. I couldn't tell whether these are one team or one template vendor selling to several clients.
Who it's competing with
| Competitors | Scale (Google Play) | Difference |
|---|---|---|
| Same-template siblings | Tens of thousands to over nine hundred thousand each | The same playbook, just different names and ad budgets |
| Vazuno, MasaCall, MeetJoy, and other new packages from the same period | Vazuno, 10-09 live, 199k installs; MeetJoy, 660k | Similar packages from other developers, with nearly the same timing |
| FRND, Dostt, VoiceClub | 20M to 80M installs, top 12 in India's Social Top Free | Real brands, mostly voice companionship, long-running paid acquisition |
| Chamet, Tango | 78M / 390M; top three in Social Top Grossing in the UAE and India | Big live-streaming plus one-on-one platforms, where the same paying users end up |
| OmeTV, Azar, Monkey | 25M to 290M | Global random matching, not reliant on hosts and coins |
Over twenty similar apps sit in the top 60 of 11-06's India social Top Free chart. The demand is real, but this pool is already packed.
If it were you
Pass. Worth knowing about, but I wouldn't copy it. Bandi got where it did through acquisition budget, a supply of hosts, and a bench of developer accounts it can swap at will. It's not a product, and there's no open gap a follower could take.
Who it fits: companies that already run one-on-one video in India or the Middle East, have hosts or bot supply, and have a mature paid-acquisition team plus several developer accounts. For them this is routine, not something to learn from.
Who it doesn't fit: nearly every indie developer and small team. The business requires either recruiting a large pool of hosts, which is operationally heavy, or running "fake calls", which runs into Google policy and user complaints. Packages with 17+ and paid companionship get taken down routinely; the reason the matrix keeps rotating packages is that no single one lasts long.
If you do it anyway, how: don't build "yet another package". What's worth taking is the playbook itself: once one package works, branch it into lite / pro / plus versions, let each package eat two to three weeks of new-app traffic, and stage the next one before the current one stops. Drive free installs in cheap-acquisition countries and charge in markets where users have more purchasing power. Apply this to a compliant category with real value (utilities, learning, legitimate content). Acquisition can only come from paid ads, targeted by country through Google App Campaigns or Meta. This category has no organic traffic to speak of.
Timing: there's no window to rush for. This is an old business that has been running for years. Bandi is just the one that climbed highest in the October batch, and by November Bandi Lite was already replacing it.
What would mean I've misread it: if Bandi's installs keep rising on their own after acquisition stops, if reviews start describing specific good experiences (instead of "fake" and five-word praise), or if it survives three months without being replaced, then it may have real retention and isn't just a disposable package.

Bandi - Live Video Chat (org.bandichat.team) research report
Research date 2026-11-06. Sources: googleplay library (agent-im server, collected daily since 2026-10-29; app_day_ext is AppstoreSpy's estimated install history since launch), the Google Play store and developer pages (read via Jina), the bandichat.net privacy page, AppGazers, Similarweb / AppGoat search snippets, Jina web search, x-radar, TikHub, and the metaads / googleads / tiktokads libraries.
Bottom line
Bandi is not a standalone product. It's another new package in an Indian "desi" one-on-one paid video chat shell matrix (Salwa / Halwa / Milna / Mohini / Tarki / Maza…), and its name is Hindi slang for "bandi" (girl, girlfriend). It has no product breakthrough. It runs on three things: a concentrated push in the roughly three weeks after launch (most likely paid acquisition) that got it into the top 30 of India, UAE, and Saudi Arabia SOCIAL Free; monetization through coins from South Asian expats in the Gulf; and swapping to the next package the moment traffic stops (Bandi Lite 10-28 is already live). After 11-03, its growth has essentially stopped.
1. Data: how fast it rose
- Install curve (AppstoreSpy estimate, googleplay library
app_day_ext; matches our ownapp_snapcollection from 10-29 onward): 10-07 launch → 10-22 39k → 10-26 108k → 10-31 152k → 11-03 18.7–190k → 11-06 191k. By interval: 10-22→10-26 (four days) +69k, 10-26→10-31 +45k, 10-31→11-03 +35k, 11-03→11-06 (three days) only +1,070. Play's install counter updates every few days (the middle days show 0 increments), so don't trust single-day figures, but the shape of "three weeks of concentrated volume, then a sharp stop after 11-03" is clear. - Charts (googleplay library
chart_rank): 10-29 India SOCIAL Free #20, UAE #26, Saudi Arabia #26, Nigeria #126; it slid steadily after that, and by 11-02 it was at India #72 and UAE #136,11-04, and from India #154,11-05 onward it had dropped off every chart. In the same period it reached UAE SOCIAL Top Grossing #121–135, Saudi Arabia #157–200, and India #170–187. Similarweb's snippet shows it still at Sri Lanka Social Free #18 as of 10-31 (our library doesn't cover Sri Lanka); the AppGoat snippet shows it reached India Social Free #25 at one point. - Review count: 7.27K reviews on the store page (Play en_IN page, 2026-11-06); AppGazers reports 4.3★ from 7,412 ratings. 190k installs correspond to over 7 thousand reviews, about 3.8%, far above the usual 1% or so, and in line with the same matrix's Halwa pro (about 6%), which is also high. Suspected of "gold coins in exchange for good reviews" (unverified).
- Revenue: AppGazers estimates in-app revenue under $5K and 2.1–104k downloads between 10-07 and 11-06 (80% range; its download range is clearly lower than Play's actual install count, so treat the revenue estimate as a floor). In-app purchases of $1.09–$37.99 (googleplay library), identical to the price tiers in the same matrix. The store page lists "Contains ads, In-app purchases, 17+" (Play es_US page).
- Versions: 1.0.1 (10-08) stayed live until 11-03, then 1.0.2 (11-03) and 1.0.3 (11-04/05, "bug fix").
2. What it actually is
Store copy: "joyful platform… instant live video call… virtual gifts" (Play page). The core loop is "tap Start → get matched with a person on video → send virtual gifts," i.e. a host-run one-on-one video call billed in coins. The top review pinned on the store page:
- "this I am doing fake calls and fake police calls please don't subscribe" (Shashi Ram, 10-18,22 people found it helpful)
- "total fake and money waste app plz don't install"(anand mutri,10-18)
- "so lovely and best aap" (Nantu Prasad, 10-19,19 people found it helpful)
"fake calls" refers to a common pattern in this kind of app: you get a "incoming call" as soon as you open it, pick up, and it's a pre-recorded clip or a bot that pushes you to top up (common in the category; Bandi's specific setup is unverified). A Hindi YouTube video with 56 views is titled "bandi app review | fake bandi app video call" (Mr Technical Seth, around 11-04).
3. Key finding: it belongs to a matrix of shell apps
Traits of the same template (googleplay library app table): package names org.<name>.<suffix>, developer name "<name> Team", random-person Gmail as the developer contact, privacy page on a throwaway domain at /privacy.html, in-app purchases $1.09–$37.99, category SOCIAL, aimed at India.

Evidence:
- The privacy policies are the same text. bandichat.net/privacy.html (effective 2026-08-27), clubhalwago.click/pro/privacy.html (effective 2026-09-09) and livesalwa.click/privacy.html (effective 2025-12-04) contain word-for-word identical paragraphs ("'Location Data' is information such as your current location can derived from your GPS…"). The bandichat.net root path returns an AWS S3 NoSuchKey, which means it's a static bucket that only hosts the privacy page.
- Developer accounts are farmed or bought. The Bandi Team developer page lists, besides the two Bandi apps, an unrelated "Math brain" (com.dominowin.myapplication, a math brain-training game), whose package name is still the Android Studio default
myapplication. The developer email is [email protected], which looks like the inbox of a small organic-food shop. It's the same approach as the "Learning Japanese" app under the Halwa Team account. - The names follow the same pattern: Halwa (dessert), Jalwa (charm), Milna (meet), Mohini (beauty), Tarki (playful), Bandi (girl / girlfriend). All are Hindi words with a flirtatious undertone.
Within this matrix, Bandi grew fastest among the new October packages: over the same period, Halwa pro went +7k in 45 days, Milna Pro +22k, and Bandi +82k (googleplay library app_profile).
4. Competitors: who else is doing this
- Sibling packages from the same matrix: see the table above. These are its most direct "competitors," and they are actually the same operator (or different clients of the same template vendor) competing against themselves.
- Other new one-on-one video packages from the same period (googleplay library, listed within 120 days): Vazuno (Charestleking, listed 10-09, 199k, +76k in 7 days, India SOCIAL #64) is nearly the same scale and pace as Bandi; MeetJoy (METAZ, August, 660k, +157k in 7 days); MeetWave / Talkora (August, India DATING chart, 250k / 110k each); MasaCall (September, 64k, +61k in 7 days); XaveLive / FicaLive (Insight-Innov, 600k / 210k).
- Companionship / dating brands at India scale (googleplay library, India SOCIAL free chart 11-06): FRND (79.4M installs, #9), Dostt (21.9M, #11), VoiceClub (25.3M), Achat (39.2M), Toki (10.2M), Poca (7.07M), Mici (2.09M), Chatta (13.8M).
- Global random video / live chat: Tango (387M, India SOCIAL top grossing #3), Azar (293M), OmeTV (254M), Chamet (78.4M, UAE SOCIAL top grossing #2), LivU (70.2M), Holla (47.5M), Monkey (25.1M).
- Big-tech features: WhatsApp and Instagram have video calls, but neither does stranger matching or paid companionship, so there is no direct substitute.
- Web / open source: after Omegle shut down 2023 years ago, random web video was picked up by OmeTV, Chatroulette and similar sites; open-source projects have nothing to do with this business (host supply + coins).
5. Growth tactics: where users come from
- New-app push + store charts (confirmed): volume surged in the two weeks after launch, reaching roughly 150k installs between 10-22 and 11-03, and it hit the top 30 of the India / UAE / Saudi SOCIAL free charts at the same time before dropping off the charts within a week (googleplay library). A sudden on-off pattern with several countries charting together is the typical shape of country-targeted paid acquisition, not organic spread (organic growth rises and falls slowly).
- Paid acquisition (inferred, unverified): the standard playbook for paid one-on-one video apps is Google App Campaigns / Meta ads targeted at India + the Gulf. Bandi does not show up in the metaads, googleads or tiktokads libraries (these only track a fixed list of products, so absence does not mean no spend).
- Shell matrix / package swapping (confirmed): dozens of packages on the same template. 6 days before Bandi stopped getting volume (10-28), Bandi Lite was already live, the same rhythm as Halwa → Halwa pro and Milna → Milna Pro/Plus. A package's chart life is about 2–3 weeks, so the matrix keeps feeding Play's "new app" traffic with fresh packages and spreads the risk of takedowns.
- Ratings / review operations (suspected): a 3.8% review rate is high; short five-star praise like "so lovely and best aap" sits alongside "fake / money waste" complaints.
- Content / creators / press / X: essentially none. TikTok is banned in India, and TikHub's "bandi" results are Haitian Creole ("bandi" = bandit); x-radar shows 0 posts in 30 days; there is no press coverage. There are only auto-generated aggregator pages (Softonic, CNET Download, AppBrain, AppGazers, Similarweb, Appfigures) plus one YouTube review with 56 views.
6. Why it took off
- The demand has been there for a long time: South Asian men in India and the Gulf pay a lot to video chat with women, and more than twenty similar apps sit in India's SOCIAL free top 60 (googleplay library 11-06).
- The play is a matrix, not a product: the same back end with a new Hindi flirty name, a new developer account and a new throwaway privacy-page domain makes a new app. Bandi is just the one in this batch that got the most spend.
- Free installs are bought in low-cost markets, the money comes from the Gulf: the free chart is driven by India, and the top-grossing charts only show UAE and Saudi (plus a tail in India), which suggests the spending comes from South Asian expats in the Gulf.
- Each package pays back fast and is cheap to drop: coins start at $1.09; AppGazers estimates monthly revenue under $5K (a model estimate, most likely on the low side). Once a package stops getting spend it just sits there, and the next one replaces it.
7. Differentiation
Essentially none. The copy ("joyful / positive vibes / HD / private & secure / virtual gifts") is template boilerplate, almost identical to Halwa, Salwa and Milna; Bandi doesn't even have Halwa's localization angle ("Hindi / dialects / 2G ready"). The only real difference is operational: this package got more budget this time and pushed harder. So differentiation is not why it broke out.
8. Visibility
Not many people yet: no public revenue, no press or X coverage, only auto-generated aggregator pages and one YouTube video with a few dozen views. But the business itself is no secret in the going-global crowd, and dozens of similar packages already exist.
9. What to borrow
- One back end, many packages for volume: local flirty words as brand names, base / lite / pro / plus / max tiers, each package riding two or three weeks of new-app traffic, with the next one ready before the current one stops getting spend.
- Free installs are bought in low-CPI India, and payments are collected from affluent Gulf expats.
- The developer account is first attached to an unrelated utility app (Math brain) as a shell, which likely lowers the review risk of a new account publishing a sensitive social app (inferred).
- Privacy pages are hosted on an S3 static bucket / a cheap .click domain, one template reused with a different name each time.
10. Uncertain
- Specific ad channels, spend and ROI (none of the three ad libraries cover it).
- Whether the matrix is one operator or one template / SDK vendor with several clients: the text, prices and package-naming style are highly consistent, but the developer names and emails differ, so this can't be confirmed.
- Whether the "fake calls" are pre-recorded clips, bots or real hosts: there are only negative reviews claiming it, no evidence.
- Actual revenue: AppGazers' under $5K is a model estimate, and its download ranges come in below Play's actual install counts, so revenue is probably underestimated too.
- Whether Google takes it down: 17+ rating, paid companionship, and reviews calling it "fake" are all grounds for takedown that similar packages often face, which is part of why the matrix exists.
