Halwa pro, 60k installs in a month: paid video chat for India, a name-swapped shell network
What it is A one-on-one video chat app for men in India and the South Asian diaspora in the Gulf. You get free coins on signup, video chat with female hosts, coins are deducted per minute, and when they run out you have to buy more.
Why it took off The same template under Hindi-pun names, split into five packages that chart at the same time (probably alongside paid acquisition). It wins downloads in India, and the money comes mainly from South Asian expats in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
CHow you could approach it Don't copy the business itself, which is grey-area. Copy the distribution: pull downloads in cheap countries, collect revenue where the expats are, run several packages from one back end, use names that play on your mother tongue, and apply it to your own legitimate category.
- Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-10-10 · 11-07 installs 62,225
Android · Total installs worldwide Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.
Halwa pro launched on Oct 10 and reached 6k Google Play installs by Nov 62, ranking #23 in India's free Social chart. The name suggests a single new product, but it's one node in a large network: dozens of apps with Hindi-pun names (Halwa, Salwa, Jalwa, Tarki, Milna, DilDial…) share one template and run the same business, where male users buy coins and video chat one-on-one with female hosts, billed by the minute. Below: what it is, where the traffic comes from, where the money comes from, and whether you should touch this business.
Two reviews that explain what it is
On Nov 4, a user named Shahrukh Sid left a review on Halwa pro's store page: "It's good same all app need coin I think it's free of cost", meaning it's fine, like all the other apps it needs coins, and I thought it was free. The same day, another user wrote: "this is fraud app no install… waste money… no customer number", calling it a scam app, don't install, a waste of money, with no customer service number.
The store page is much gentler: "No endless feeds, no fake profiles, no performing", "From Delhi to Chennai, Mumbai to Kolkata… chat in Hindi, English, or your own dialect", "dil se baat" (talk from the heart). It's rated Mature 17+. The download site Softonic is blunter: "one-on-one instant video chat for adults".
Put together, it's this: free coins on signup, you swipe to a female host, tap a video call, and coins are deducted by the minute. When the coins run out you have to buy more. The store page lists in-app purchases at $1.09–$37.99 each (Google Play, 11-06). Users think it's "free chat" and only find out it's "every app needs coins" once they're inside.
How fast it grew
| Date | Google Play installs | Added that day |
|---|---|---|
| 10-29 | 17,121 | — |
| 11-01 | 23,280 | +6,159 |
| 11-03 | 47,166 | +23,886 |
| 11-05 | 52,224 | +5,058 |
| 11-06 | 62,225 | +10,001 |
It gained 45k in one week. The curve doesn't climb smoothly: it jumps a step every day or two and barely moves in between, which looks more like concentrated ad buys or chart-pushing than word of mouth (inferred).
Same period on the charts: India's free Social chart went from #10-29 on 73 to #11-06 on 23; it also ranks on the free Social charts in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia (#48, #64, #80). From Nov 4 it also entered the top-grossing Social charts in those three countries (#131–#184). In India it's almost all downloads; the people paying are in the Gulf (inferred).
Another number is off: 62k installs, but the store page shows 3,880 reviews (11-06), a review rate of about 6%. A typical app sits around 1%. The bad reviews say it's a scam, and the good ones are short lines like "good super connection really Free". Someone may be running the review section, for example by giving coins in exchange for good reviews (unverified).
It's not one app, it's a network
Open the developer page for "Halwa Team": Halwa, Halwa Lite, Halwa Pro, Halwa Plus, Halwa Max, five video chat apps, plus "Learning Japanese," which has nothing to do with video chat and looks like a shell used to build up the developer account and get past review (inferred). Base Halwa launched in Sep 17 and had 35K installs by 11-06.
Looking wider, Google Play has a large batch of apps that look exactly the same. Package names follow org.<name>.home / livechat with .pro / .plus / .max added. In-app purchases sit in the same $1.09–$37.99 range. Privacy policies are hosted on disposable .click domains, and developer emails are Gmail accounts under random names.

The pattern is clear. One brand gets traction, then the operator swaps in a Hindi-sounding alternate name and a new developer account and ships another batch, each getting tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of installs. If one package gets delisted or buried in bad reviews, you only lose that one package, and each new package gets another round of "new release" exposure. You can't tell whether these packages come from the same company. The templates, pricing, and domain style match, but the developer names and emails differ.
Seen within this network, Halwa pro doesn't stand out. Bandi and MasaCall, which launched around the same time, grew even faster.
Where users come from and where the money comes from
Traffic: What can be confirmed is multi-package traffic plus chart pushing: five packages launched at once, and after reaching the top 30 of India's free Social chart they picked up chart traffic. Paid user acquisition is standard in this business (one-on-one paid video, where each paying user can generate real revenue, makes ads pay back). It appears on the charts in India and three Gulf countries, which also suggests country-targeted spend, but I couldn't find its specific ads (unverified). No content creators, influencers, or media cover it. TikTok is banned in India, and X shows zero posts in 30 days.
Hosts: Female hosts on apps like this usually come from "agencies / guilds." India has a large number of recruitment groups. Facebook has many posts like "1V1 Video Calling App recruiting hosts and agencies" and "hosts get a 50% cut." I didn't find a post recruiting specifically for Halwa (unverified), but the model works this way.
Revenue: A third-party estimate (AppGazers, 10-07 to 11-06) puts in-app revenue over the last 30 days at under $5,000, which is small for a single package. This business makes money through the number of packages: dozens of them, each earning anywhere from a few thousand to tens of thousands of dollars. The paying users are mainly South Asian male migrant workers in the Gulf. They earn more than they would at home, live far from family, and want someone to talk to at night, and the app sells exactly that: "a professional missing home" (inferred).
Who it's competing with
- Siblings in the same network: The table above lists more than a dozen brands, and new ones keep appearing. Its most direct competitor is the next renamed version of itself.
- Established players in India: FRND (79.4M installs, #9 on India's free Social chart), Dostt (21.9M), Chamet (78.4M, #2 on UAE's Top Grossing Social chart), and Tango. They have brands, sustained ad spend, and steady host supply, and they are two to three orders of magnitude bigger than Halwa pro.
- Random video: OmeTV (250M installs) and Monkey pair users at random and don't rely on paid hosts.
The products are nearly identical: "Hindi localization, real people, no feed scrolling." Salwa's copy reads "Built with Indians in Mind… Hindi & English… 2G/3G", which says the same thing. The real differences are all in operations.
If it were you
Verdict: C. You can learn a distribution playbook here, but copying it isn't worth it. These apps took off not because of the product but because of three things that are hard to get from nothing: a guild network that can supply female hosts in bulk, a tested template with experience getting through review, and the willingness to keep swapping shell accounts and buying ads. This niche already has dozens of packages on the same template, and each one makes only a few thousand dollars in revenue.
Who it fits: Companies already running overseas live streaming or 1v1 video, with host supply and a paid acquisition team, looking to expand into India and the Gulf. For them, this network shows one thing: India supplies the downloads, the Gulf supplies the money, and one Hindi-sounding brand can be split into five packages.
Who it doesn't fit: Indie developers and small teams. You can't recruit the hosts, and you can't manage them. Google Play has policies against paid companionship apps with sexual undertones, and apps like these often get delisted. The whole network relies on changing names and accounts to survive, which is itself the evidence. Reviews like "fraud" and "no customer service" mean refunds, chargebacks, and account bans will follow you.
If you want to borrow something, take these three moves and apply them to your own legitimate category:
- Get downloads in cheap countries, collect payments in diaspora countries: Chase traffic in India on the free chart, and capture money from the UAE and Saudi Arabia on the grossing chart. Any product serving South Asian or Southeast Asian diaspora communities (remittances, language learning, hometown social apps, home-country content) can use this approach.
- Split one backend into several packages: Launch lite / pro / plus / max separately, run ads on each, and scale whichever one pays back. This only works if it doesn't violate the store's duplicate-content policy, so check that first.
- Name it with a native-language sound-alike: Halwa (a sweet), Jalwa (charm), Milna (to meet). Indian users read these as things that belong to them. Compared with an English name, this may get much higher click-through in the local market (inferred).
How to acquire users: If the product is legitimate, the lesson is to buy ads with country targeting, put the budget into diaspora countries with high willingness to pay, not the countries where downloads are cheapest.
When to get in: There's no window here. This network has been running for over a year and still launches new packages every month.
What a wrong read looks like: ① Five Halwa packs were pulled from Google Play in one or two months, so this lane is narrower than it looks; ② on the flip side, Halwa pro is still parked at #30 on the India social chart and climbing the Gulf Top Grossing chart, with no new copycat packs appearing. That means a single brand can reach real scale, and the playbook is worth studying more than mass-producing packs; ③ one legitimate brand made it work with an Hindi-pun name plus Gulf expat payers, with no adult-content tricks. That move can be ported to other categories.

Halwa pro: Meet & Video Chat (org.halwa.home.pro) research report
Research date: 2026-11-06. Data sources: googleplay library (agent-im server, collected daily since 2026-10-29), Google Play Store pages (read via Jina), AppGazers, Softonic, web / TikTok / X search, and the googleads / metaads libraries.
Bottom line
Halwa pro is not a standalone product but a "front" for a matrix of apps doing paid one-on-one video chat in India (host-based, billed in coins). Dozens of Hindi-pun names (Halwa / Jalwa / Salwa / Lawa / Milna / DilDial / Baatcheet-Mohini / Tarki / Hami / Masa…) share one code template, the same IAP price ladder, and the same .click privacy-page domain. Each brand splits into several packages: base, lite, pro, plus, max. It gets off the ground through matrix-style package launches plus (most likely) paid acquisition, which pushes new apps onto India's SOCIAL free chart, and then it monetizes with paid video calls. The product itself shows no differentiation.
1. Data: how fast it rose
- Installs (googleplay library, app_day): 10-29 17,121 → 11-01 23,280 → 11-03 47,166 → 11-05 52,224 → 11-06 62,225. 7 days: +45,104. Launched 2026-10-10, under a month ago.
- Charts (googleplay library, chart_rank): India SOCIAL free chart climbed from #10-29 on 73 to #11-06 on 23. In the same period it was on the SOCIAL free charts in the UAE (48), Saudi Arabia (64), and Malaysia (80). From 11-04 it also entered the SOCIAL grossing charts in the UAE, Malaysia, and Saudi Arabia (#131–184). This suggests South Asian / Indian migrant workers in the Gulf are the ones paying.
- Review count: The store page shows 3.86K reviews (Play page en_IN, 2026-11-06). AppGazers shows 4.2★ with 3,299 ratings. 60k installs correspond to nearly 4 thousand reviews, about 6%, far above the typical 1% for apps. This suggests reviews may be incentivized or that "coins for good reviews" is being offered (unverified).
- Revenue: AppGazers estimates in-app revenue of 10-07 to 11-06 at under $5K, with 1.3–64k downloads (80% range). The $1.09–$37.99 IAP tier (googleplay library) is coin packs.
- Same owner: The developer page on Play lists five video chat packs: Halwa, Halwa Lite, Halwa pro, Halwa Plus, and Halwa Max, plus "Learning Japanese" (com.mipyy.larnaes, 2026-05 update), which has nothing to do with video chat. The last is suspected to be a shell app used to warm up the account and get through review, or the developer account may have been bought (unverified). In the library, the base Halwa (org.halwa.home, launched 2026-09-17) has 34.6k installs, +14k in the last 7 days, and ranks #87 on India SOCIAL.
2. What it actually is
The store copy says "No feed, no fake people, chat late at night in Hindi / English / dialects" (Play page). But Softonic describes it as "one-to-one instant video chat for adults, 17+". Play rates it Mature 17+. User reviews include "fraud app… waste money… no customer number" and "same all app need coin" (Play page 2026-11-04). Put plainly: you get some free coins for signing up, then have one-to-one video calls with female hosts (mostly signed through agencies) billed per minute in coins. This is the same thing as Salwa in its matrix ("Desi Girls Video chat", 18+, "virtual gifts").
3. Competitors: who else is doing this
A. Same-template matrix (the key finding: it is itself a member of the matrix) Shared traits: package names org.<name>.<home|livechat|go>[.pro|.plus|.max], in-app purchases all at $1.09 - $37.99 (or starting at $0.99 / $0.49), privacy pages all on <club name go>.click/[pro|plus|max]/privacy.html, developer emails are random-name Gmail accounts. The pattern: one brand gets hot for a while, then they swap in a Hindi pun name and a new developer account and re-publish a batch of packages, each getting tens to hundreds of thousands of installs. Halwa pro ranks near the top of this new batch by growth, but its scale isn't exceptional (Bandi and MasaCall grew faster in the same period).
B. India's big video and voice dating / companion market (googleplay library v_chart, India SOCIAL top free 2026-11-06)
- FRND (79.4M installs, #9), Dostt (21.9M, #11), VoiceClub (25.3M), Achat (39.2M), Connecto (32.5M), Chamet (78.4M, UAE SOCIAL top grossing #2), Tango (390M), Chatta (13.8M), Toki (10.2M, listed 2025-11), Poca (7.07M), Mici (2.09M, listed 2025-10).
- These are real brands with sustained ad spend and host supply. Compared with them, Halwa pro is two to three orders of magnitude smaller, has no brand, and relies on "new package + Hindi packaging + cheap coins."
C. Random video / web chat: OmeTV (250M installs), Monkey, Omega (HOLLA). Since Omegle shut down 2023 years ago, these apps have picked up that demand. D. Big-platform features: WhatsApp and Instagram have video calls, but they don't offer paid stranger companionship, so there's no direct substitute.
4. Growth tactics: where users come from
- Matrix package-spamming + store charts / search (confirmed): the same developer has 5 packages (Play developer page), and dozens of same-template packages exist (googleplay library). New packages get Play's new-app exposure, climb into India SOCIAL top free to #30, then ride chart traffic. 11-01, 11-03, 11-06 installs jump in steps (+6k, +24k, +10k), like a concentrated buy or chart-push rhythm.
- Paid acquisition (Google App Campaigns / Meta) (unverified): buying ads is standard for one-to-one paid video; ARPPU is high enough to pay back. But the googleads and metaads libraries only track listed products, and searches for halwa / salwa / jalwa / tarki returned nothing. No results doesn't mean no spend. Charting in both India and four Gulf countries also fits country-targeted buying.
- Host / agency supply side (industry norm, Halwa itself unverified): India has many Facebook groups, Instagram accounts and YouTube tutorials recruiting "hosts / agents" (e.g., a Facebook group "Recruitment for Agents / Hosts… 1V1 Video Calling App" promising hosts "50% commission"). Agencies supply female hosts, and hosts also bring in users. I found no recruitment posts specific to Halwa.
- Reviews / rating operations (suspected): about 6% review rate is on the high side; short praise like "good super connection really free" appears alongside "fraud / waste money" complaints.
- Content / creators / media / X: none. TikTok is banned in India, and search results are irrelevant; X (x-radar 30 days) has zero posts; no media coverage. Only auto-generated aggregator pages like Softonic, CNET Download, AppBrain, AppGazers and Similarweb.
5. Why it took off
- Long-term demand exists: men from South Asia in India and the Gulf have strong demand to pay for video chats with women (twenty to thirty similar apps in India's SOCIAL top free 80, googleplay library).
- The play is a matrix, not a product: the same template with new names and new accounts, published in bulk. Single-package lifespan and compliance risk (delisting, bad reviews) get diluted across the matrix, and new packages keep getting the "new listing + chart push" bump. Halwa pro is the third package under the Halwa brand.
- Region targeting + paid: charting in India's free ranking and in UAE, Saudi and Malaysia top grossing, with money mainly coming from high-purchasing-power South Asian users in the Gulf.
- Low-barrier monetization: coins from $1.09; AppGazers estimates monthly revenue below $5K. Single packages are small, so volume comes from the number of packages.
6. Differentiation
Almost none. The copy pushes "India localization (Hindi + dialects), real people, no feed," nearly identical to Salwa, Tarki, Mohini and DilDial (Salwa copy: "Built with Indians in Mind… Hindi & English… 2G/3G"). The real difference is operational: Hindi pun brand names + multi-package matrix + one-off .click domains. That's why it runs, but anyone can copy it, and it's already being copied widely.
7. Visibility
Few people know it yet: no public revenue, no media or X coverage, only auto-generated aggregator pages. But the category is crowded, and people who run this business already know it.
8. What to borrow
- One backend, batch-publishing packages under local-language pun names, each split into lite / pro / plus / max to spread delisting risk and repeatedly catch the "new listing" bump.
- Free charts drive volume in low-price countries, while paying users concentrate in high-purchasing-power countries with overseas South Asian populations (South Asians in the Gulf).
- Using an unrelated shell app (Learning Japanese) to warm up developer accounts, then publishing the main business packages (inferred).
9. Uncertain
- Specific acquisition channels and spend (ad libraries don't cover it).
- Whether the matrix is one company: templates, pricing and domain style are highly consistent, but developer names and emails differ, so it can't be confirmed.
- Whether hosts are real agency people or AI / pre-recorded "fake hosts": there's a "fraud" complaint, but no evidence.
- Retention and real revenue: AppGazers' below-$5K is only a model estimate.
- Compliance risk: Google Play has policies on sexually suggestive paid chat, and similar packages are often delisted. That's one of the reasons the matrix exists.
