One keyword split into five packages: a WhatsApp "romantic stickers" shell app, 920k installs in a week
What it is A free shell app that adds couple, kiss, heart, and good morning/good night stickers to WhatsApp, earning from ads.
Why it blew up People in India, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa send romantic sticker packs on WhatsApp every day, and "romantic stickers" gets searched all year. The developer writes the keyword into every field that can hold text, so it ranks #1 in the India store. They also run five similar packs at once to take up search slots and push into the communication free charts.
CHow you could do it too Don't fight over "romantic", which is already crowded. Use the same template to cover the keywords nobody has claimed yet (holidays, local languages, relationships like mom or husband), one keyword per pack. Keep ads light enough that users don't rage-quit, and get users through Play search and TikTok sticker share codes.

An indie developer called Exdev Apps listed a couple-sticker pack for WhatsApp on Google Play in Jul 14. By Nov 6 it had 8.52M cumulative installs, and in the last 7 days it added 919k. It has no new feature; the category has existed on Play for seven years. What it runs on is a cheap distribution play: package name, title and update notes are all written as search terms, five packs go up for one keyword at once, and they're parked on communication free charts in 28 countries. Below: how the play works, where the money comes from, who's competing, and whether you should follow it.
The two pinned reviews
Open its store page in the India store and the top two reviews tell you the whole story.
One is a five-star from Oct 11, by Halena: "Love this app so much! ❤️😍 Romantic stickers are so cute, so beautiful, full of love… perfect for couples, highly recommended! 💖😘🌹" 4,542 people marked it helpful. The other is a one-star from Sep 17, by Jeet Deepak Dholakia: "The worst experience ever. Every tap is a long ad." 3,171 people marked it helpful. A third is shorter: "Fake, annoying app, don't download, the ads will drain your traffic." (Google Play India, 11-06)
The five-star review reads like it was written by the same person as the store description, so it's probably a solicited review. That's an inference. The one-star reviews are the real signal: it makes money from ads, and the ads are dense. On the India store page it sits at 3.3 stars. Over a bit more than a week, 1-star reviews went from 1,918 to 2,334 (+22%), while 5-star reviews only went from 8,206 to 8,594 (+5%) (public Google Play data, 10-29 to 11-06). The more users it gets, the lower the score goes.
None of this stops it from getting hundreds of thousands of installs a day.
What it is
Open it and you get a row of sticker packs: kiss, hug, heart, good-morning love, good night, sorry, miss you, Valentine's, anniversary. Tap "Add to WhatsApp" and it's in your chat. The store description says it plainly: for boyfriends, girlfriends, married couples, long-distance relationships, good morning and good night.
Technically it's the shell you get from WhatsApp's official sample project, which became available 2018 years ago when third-party sticker packs opened up: one template, a pile of images, one "Add" button. Version 1.0.6, no updates since Oct 1, and it still pulls in hundreds of thousands of installs a day. The store listing says no in-app purchases; all revenue is ads.
Where the traffic comes from: it ranks first for the search
On Nov 6, searching "romantic stickers" in the India Google Play store returns it as the top result. The second is an app from Ather Apps with an identical name, also called "Romantic Stickers WAStickers".
It ranks first because every field that can hold text carries the search term:
- The package name is the keyword: romanticstickers.love.sticker.wastickerapps;
- The title takes the two highest-frequency terms, "Romantic Stickers" and "WAStickers";
- The description is a long list of variations: love stickers, couple stickers, kiss stickers, hug stickers, Good Morning love stickers…;
- The "What's new" field has no real update notes, just 19 lines of keywords: "Love Romantic Kiss WAStickers / Romantic Love Stickers WA / Love Kiss Stickers for WhatsApp / Romantic WhatsApp Stickers / Love Hug Stickers WASticker…"
Where do the searchers come from? The countries where it charts tell you. 11-06 It sits on the communication free charts in 28 regions at once: #15 in India, 21 in South Africa, 22 in Turkey, 24 in the UAE, 25 in Saudi Arabia, 25 in Brazil, 27 in Mexico, 29 in Indonesia, 29 in Nigeria, 30 in Argentina, all the way to #51 in Poland (Google Play charts, 11-06). Every one of these is a place where WhatsApp is the default chat app and Android dominates. Couples there send "good morning, I love you" stickers daily, so the term gets searched year-round. Future-Apps, the original "Romantic Stickers WASticker.ly" listed in 2023, has 32.6M installs and still added 7k in the last 297 days, which proves the demand.
Charting on the communication free chart isn't hard. On the India chart it sits next to Discord, Edge and Opera. Once it's on the chart, it gets more chart exposure and more "similar apps" recommendations.
Whether it's buying Google or Meta ads, you can't tell from outside. Running tens of thousands of installs a day and holding steady rankings across twenty-plus countries makes Google app ads likely (inference). Nobody is pushing it on TikTok. Search "romantic stickers whatsapp" and the top results are Sticker.ly share-code videos, like the Portuguese account @regi_sccp's October video last year, "copy the code 9WJUJL and paste it into sticker.ly to get the best love stickers," with 800k views (TikTok search, 11-06).
Who's behind it: one keyword, five packs
Exdev Apps has 5 apps on Play, all permutations of the same few words, and 4 of them are fighting over "romantic":
| App | Launched | Total installs | past 7 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Romantic Stickers WAStickers | 2026-07-14 | 8.52M | +919k |
| Love Romantic Kiss WAStickers | 2026-02-22 | 5.47M | +210k |
| Stickers & Emoji for WhatsApp | About 2026-05 | 2.02M | +448k |
| Romantic Stickers - WASticker | 2026-06-23 | 1.34M | +111k |
| Romantic WhatsApp Stickers | 2026-07-26 | 1.27M | +118k |
Public Google Play data, 11-06. Together the five have 18.6M installs, +1.81M in a week.
The developer site is hosted on blogspot, the contact email is gmail, and the privacy policy is on Google Sites: the typical setup of a solo developer or a small workshop. The method is simple too: every extra package name adds another slot in search results, and so another chance to chart. Whichever pack takes off, they push it further. The February pack got traction first; the July one caught up.
Where the money comes from
Only ads. The "long ad every tap" in the one-star review describes interstitials plus rewarded video, the standard setup for sticker apps.
No public revenue figure. Rough math: hundreds of thousands of new installs a day, a few interstitials per user, and interstitial CPMs in India, Indonesia and Nigeria of a few cents to about a dollar. That puts the pack at a few hundred dollars a day (estimate, could be off by several times). Not much, but the cost is close to zero: one template, a batch of images, and a version nobody has touched since Oct 1. So it doesn't need to be good, just plentiful.
Who's competing for the same term
That's the biggest problem with this play. The "romantic sticker" keyword is already crowded, and most of the entrants arrived this year:
| Who | How | Scale (Google Play, 11-06) |
|---|---|---|
| Sticker.ly(Naver Z,2018) | Users upload their own stickers, and TikTok share codes bring the traffic | 342M installs, #6 on Brazil's communication top-grossing chart |
| Future-Apps "Romantic Stickers WASticker.ly" (2023-05) | The original for this keyword, with the same features | 32.6M, 7 days +297k |
| Stickorax Apps (2026,5 packs) | Same matrix play, extending into sticker-making and wallpapers | Combined 9.67M, +7k in 700 days |
| Future Sole "Romantic Love Emoji WAStickers" (2026-08-30) | Single pack, nearly identical | 1.15M, 7 days +408k |
| Willcar, Kd Infotech, HAMZ, ZOBEST, Spartan, Street Television (2026-09 to 10) | New packs with the same or similar names | Tens of thousands to over a million each |
| Zuviax Mobile Apps(2026-09-15) | The package name is this app's package name with ".whatsapp" added | 660k |
Beyond that, there's WhatsApp's built-in sticker store, AI-generated stickers, the stickers in Gboard and GIPHY, and user-made routes like Sticker Maker (200M installs).
Exdev's skill is that it was the first in this 2026 wave to reach eight million-plus. But if you walk in today, you're the tenth or fifteenth pack on this keyword.
If it were you
The verdict: Don't copy this one. The play is real, cheap and profitable, but "romantic stickers" has drawn a dozen-plus same-name packs in two months. You'd only get scraps. What's worth learning is the method: one high-demand keyword, many packs, keywords packed into every field, and a low-barrier category chart. Not this app.
Who it suits: A team of 1–2 people or a small studio with experience making Play utility apps, solid ASO skills, and a template and asset pipeline, that can live with low per-user revenue and win on volume.
Who it doesn't suit: Anyone who wants to build a product with reputation that keeps users long-term; anyone unwilling to skirt Google Play's spam policy; anyone hoping to make big money from a single pack. It's only a few hundred dollars a day.
How to do it: Don't fight over "romantic", which is saturated. Find adjacent keywords in the same need that nobody has covered: by holiday (Eid, Diwali, Christmas, Mother's Day by country), by language (Hindi love messages, Arabic good-morning stickers, Portuguese figurinhas, Swahili), by relationship (for mom, for husband, for best friend). First search Play to see what ranks. If the top results are packs that haven't been updated in over a year, have low ratings, but still decent installs, someone is searching and nobody has served them well. Use one template per keyword, and write the package name, title, description and update notes around that keyword. Do one thing better than this app: keep ads from appearing after every tap, and show usable stickers on the first screen. Reviews in this category are almost all about ads, and only a decent rating can hold up your search ranking.
How to get users: Build on Play search and amplify through the communication free charts. For a second channel, learn from Sticker.ly: find TikTok accounts in Brazil, Mexico and Paraguay that post "sticker share codes" (hundreds of thousands of views each), since their audience is exactly the people who want to add stickers to WhatsApp.
When to get in early: Holiday keywords have hard deadlines. For Valentine's, list before mid-January so the pack can build some installs and ratings. Eid and Christmas work the same way, about a month ahead. The category itself isn't time-sensitive; the demand has been there for seven years.
Signs you've misread it: ① If Exdev's or Stickorax's sister packs get taken down in bulk by Google within 30 days, the multi-pack play is riskier than it looks, and it may not be worth doing at all, since you'd need to spread packs across different developer accounts. ② If the new keyword you picked still has under a few hundred daily installs two weeks after listing, that keyword has little volume or is already dominated by older packs. Switch keywords. ③ If this pack's daily installs fall to a few thousand after paid promotion stops, its traffic was mostly bought, not searched, and the organic search route is harder than this article makes it sound.

One line
A WhatsApp "couples / hearts / kisses" sticker-pack wrapper App with no real functional innovation. It took off because demand in emerging markets has been steady for a long time, and people keep searching for the category (third-party WhatsApp sticker packs). The developer then grabbed store search slots with 5 near-identical sock-puppet Apps, stuffed keywords into update notes, and spread charts across 28 countries' Communication free charts. This is a classic Play ASO plus matrix play, not product-driven.
1. Data (googleplay library)
- Cumulative installs: 2026-10-29 7,606,155 → 11-06 8,524,811; +918,656 in the last 7 days (app_profile.installs_gain_7d), roughly 11–130k/day. Live for 115 days, averaging about 74k/day, so it's currently growing faster than its since-launch average.
- Rating count: 11,511 → 12,520, growing 120–165 per day. Ratings / installs ≈ 0.15%, a low engagement rate typical of sticker utility Apps.
- Rating is sliding: the US store score dropped from 4.13 to 4.05; the 1-star count rose from 1,918 to 2,334 (+22%), while the 5-star count only rose from 8,206 to 8,594 (+5%). The India store page shows 3.3 stars (Jina reading the Play page, gl=in). The share of 1-star reviews among new users is clearly high; the usual causes are heavy ads and stickers not adding properly to WhatsApp, but we have no review samples (0 rows in the review table), so this is unverified.
- Charts: on the COMMUNICATION Top Free chart in 28–30 stores per day. 11-06 ranks: India 15, South Africa 21, Turkey 22, UAE 24, Saudi Arabia 25, Brazil 25, Mexico 27, Indonesia 29, Nigeria 29, Argentina 30 ... Poland 51. Its best rank slid from 10-29 11 to 15. On India's Communication Top Free chart it sits next to Discord, Edge, and Opera; the same developer's Stickers & Emoji for WhatsApp ranks #18.
- Version: 1.0.6, last updated 2026-10-01, with no updates since. iap_range is empty on the data card, and app_snap shows offers_iap=False (the ad_supported field is also False, but the scraper isn't reliable on that field). Monetization is unverified; similar Apps mostly rely on AdMob interstitials and rewarded video.
- Update notes (recent_changes) are all keywords: "Love Romantic Kiss WAStickers / Romantic Love Stickers WA / Love Kiss Stickers for WhatsApp / Romantic WhatsApp Stickers / Love Hug Stickers WASticker / Romantic Couple Stickers WA / ...". That's blatant ASO keyword stuffing. The description is also a long keyword rewrite: love stickers, romantic stickers, kiss/hug/heart stickers, Good Morning / Good Night love stickers......
2. Developer matrix (Exdev Apps, 5 Apps in the googleplay lib, 18.6M installs combined, +1.81M across the last 7 days combined)
| App | Launched | Installs | past 7 days | Best category rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Romantic Stickers WAStickers (this App) | 2026-07-14 | 8,524,811 | +918,656 | 15 (India) |
| Love Romantic Kiss WAStickers | 2026-02-22 | 5,473,118 | +209,769 | 51 (Turkey) |
| Stickers & Emoji for WhatsApp | About 2026-05 (listed for 171 days) | 2,015,855 | +448,150 | 18 (India) |
| Romantic Stickers - WASticker | 2026-06-23 | 1,339,625 | +111,165 | 110 (India) |
| Romantic WhatsApp Stickers | 2026-07-26 | 1,274,008 | +118,348 | 42 (Nigeria) |
The names of the 5 Apps are almost permutations of the same set of words (Romantic / Love / Kiss / WAStickers / WhatsApp). The developer site is on blogspot, the email is gmail, and the privacy policy is hosted on Google Sites, a typical small-team or individual sock-puppet setup. 4 of them are all pushing the single word "romantic": every extra package name means another search result slot and another chance to chart. This App is the one performing best in the matrix. Among developers in the googleplay lib with "sticker" in the title and launched within 400 days, Exdev ranks first for growth over the last 7 days (1.81M), and second place, Stickorax Apps, is at 700k.
3. Competitors
WhatsApp has allowed third-party sticker packs since 2018 (the WAStickerApps API), and this category has existed on Play for 7 years, an old red ocean:
- Sticker.ly (Naver Z): 342M installs, a sticker platform launched 2018 years ago with UGC and share codes, and it reached #6 on Brazil's Communication Top Grossing chart. The top TikTok results for "romantic stickers whatsapp" are almost all Sticker.ly share-code videos (regi_sccp 800k views, paraguayita_01 800k views, stickerly_latam 570k views).
- Future-Apps' Romantic Stickers WASticker.ly: 32.6M installs, launched 2023-05, +297k in the last 7 days. It's the old leader for the same keyword, and this App's name and positioning are nearly copied from it.
- Newer 2026-year entrants in the category (googleplay lib): Future Sole "Romantic Love Emoji WAStickers" (2026-08-301M, +408k in the last 7 days, #9 on Nigeria's Communication chart); Stickorax Apps has 5 Apps in total (Romantic Love Sticker Maker 5.23M, Romantic Stickers Kiss Sticker 1.99M, Emoji Love Wallpaper WASticker 800k with +450k in 7 days ...); Willcar Studio (2026-09-171M); Kd Infotech (1.67M); Ather Apps (2025-10.7M); HAMZ LIMITED (2026-10-18.6M); ZOBEST (2026-10-20.5M); Spartan Studio (2026-10-18); Street Television (2026-10-1.59M, +75k in 7 days); and Zuviax Mobile Apps uses the package name
romanticstickers.love.sticker.wastickerapps.whatsapp(2026-09-15.7M). - Big-platform features: WhatsApp has a built-in sticker store and AI sticker generation; Gboard, GIPHY (68M), and various keyboard apps also ship stickers.
- Sticker-making apps: Sticker maker (Viko, 200M), Personal stickers (44.9M), TextSticker (90.6M). Users make their own; that's a different route.
4. Growth tactics
- Play Store search + ASO (confirmed): update notes and description are stuffed with keyword variants; the package name itself is a keyword (romanticstickers.love.sticker.wastickerapps); the title claims both high-frequency terms, "Romantic Stickers" and "WAStickers".
- Sock-puppet matrix (confirmed): the same developer runs 5 near-identical Apps covering the same search terms.
- Multi-country category chart (confirmed): 28 stores' Communication Top Free charts at once, concentrated in India, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, and Africa, markets with high WhatsApp penetration and Android-dominant phones. The bar for Top Free in the Communication category is low, and once charted you get chart exposure plus "similar apps" recommendations.
- Paid acquisition (unconfirmed): the metaads lib has no Page for Exdev or this package name, and googleads adv_map has no mapping. These libs only track listed products, so not finding it doesn't mean it isn't running. With 100k+ installs a day and such steady chart placement, Google App ads (UAC) could also be running.
- TikTok / creators (none found): romantic sticker content on TikTok is all Sticker.ly share codes and personal sticker accounts; no one promoting Exdev's Apps turned up.
- Media / X (none): x-radar found 0 results over 30 days; the only web hits are auto-generated pages from APK mirrors and aggregators like AppBrain, appcand, updatestar, and appsapk.
5. Why it took off
- Rigid, persistent demand: in India, Brazil, Indonesia, Nigeria, and the Middle East, WhatsApp is the default chat tool, and couples sending "love you / miss you / good morning / good night" stickers is high-frequency behavior. "Romantic stickers" as a search term has steady volume year-round. Future-Apps reaching 32.6M installs in 2023 years proves it.
- Search slots are won through the matrix and keyword stuffing: 5 sock-puppet Apps plus keyword stuffing; this App's package name and title match the search terms exactly, and it holds #15–51 on 28 countries' Communication Top Free charts.
- Cold-start cost is extremely low: the sticker-wrapper App template is ready-made (the WAStickerApps sample project), assets can be batch-generated, and one version (no updates since 1.0.6,10-01) can keep running.
- There may be seasonal factors (demand for greeting stickers rises during festivals like Diwali in India); this is speculation, unverified.
6. Differentiation
Functionally there's basically nothing new: like same-named Apps Future-Apps, Stickorax, and Future Sole, it's a "romantic sticker pack + one-tap add to WhatsApp". The real difference is distribution: Exdev turned one keyword into 5 packages and was the first of this 2026-year wave of followers to reach 8M+. So it works because of distribution tactics, not differentiation. Given the falling rating (+22% for 1-star over a week), the product experience may even be worse than the older competitors.
7. How many people saw it and who is copying it
- Visibility: still little known. No media coverage, 0 results on X, and nobody posting revenue; only auto-generated pages on APK aggregators.
- But the category is already packed: between 2026 and October 9, at least 6 near-identical "Romantic Stickers" apps showed up, including Willcar, HAMZ, ZOBEST, Spartan, Street Television and Zuviax. Zuviax even appended
.whatsappto the package name of this app.
8. What others can learn
- Find a long-tail search term in developing markets that's a must-have in messaging scenarios like WhatsApp. Use a template shell app with bulk assets, open several package names covering the same keyword set, and write package names, titles, descriptions and update notes around keywords. Prioritize low-barrier chart categories like Communication for free-chart rankings.
- Risk: Google Play bans "repetitive content / spam apps" and keyword stuffing, and sock-puppet accounts get taken down in batches. Fast-growing one-star reviews suggest retention and ad experience are problems too.
9. Uncertain
- Revenue and monetization (whether there are ads, and how dense they are), plus eCPM. Rewarded and interstitial ad prices in emerging markets are very low, and it's unclear how much 8M installs actually earn.
- Whether it's buying paid acquisition on Google UAC / Meta: our database doesn't track this.
- The specific reasons behind the bad reviews (the review table has no sample).
- Whether install growth is organic search, or boosted by install farming or incentivized downloads.
