A voice saying "turn the volume all the way up" sold 1.95M installs

What it is An Android tool that plays a specific-frequency sound plus vibration to push water and dust out of the phone speaker, with volume boost and a decibel meter on the side. It makes money from ads and in-app purchases.

Why it took off The demand already existed (phones wet from water, muffled speakers, and tens of millions of plays on TikTok for similar sound videos). The team behind it had already built several tool apps with ten million+ installs, using two-keyword titles, localized titles per country, high ratings, and emerging-market paid acquisition. It hit the tool charts in 18 countries just ahead of the monsoon season in India and Southeast Asia.

CHow you could follow Don't build yet another identical cleaner app. Teams with experience in tool-app acquisition and monetization could take the monetization it got wrong and the language markets it didn't cover, or turn it into an entry point for a "phone minor-issues toolkit," and launch paid acquisition ahead of next year's 6–September monsoon.

Grade C: the category has been around for 2015 years, the top two or three have 20-30 million installs, at least 7 new entrants were buying installs at the same time in 2026, and there are plenty of free alternatives. It broke out on the strength of an existing publishing-factory capability. An ordinary follower can learn the playbook, but following is not a good bet. Nobody really knows about it yet

An Android mini-tool that clears water and dust from phone speakers, listed in July 13. Within four months it has 1.95M installs, and it's still climbing, up 340k over the last week. It has no new features. This category has existed for 2015 years, and the leaders have had 20-30 million installs for a long time. It broke out because of a team behind it that mass-produces phone mini-tools, plus a publishing playbook that everyone can see but not everyone can afford. Below: what it sells, how it climbed, who it's competing with, and whether you should get in.

A five-star review with 209 people marking it helpful

In Sep 2026 12, an Indian user named Safik Ansari left a five-star review on Google Play: "My phone speaker wasn't working right, it was quiet and distorted. After using this app the sound is clear again, it's fine now... thank you." By Nov 6, 209 people had marked it as helpful, and it sits first in the store page's review section. The next two reviews are also from India, from Sep 4 and Sep 19: one says "even with the volume maxed it was quiet, now it's loud like a new phone", the other says "useful after my phone got wet."

Those weeks were the monsoon season in India and Southeast Asia. Phones get wet and speakers get muffled, a small annoyance that comes back every year, and this app scaled up right at that moment.

What it is

You open it, pick a mode, and the phone plays a low-frequency tone at a specific frequency while vibrating, pushing water and dust out of the speaker grille. It also includes a volume booster, a speaker test, and a decibel meter. The name is Speaker Cleaner Volume Booster, the developer account is Sky Technology Labs, it contains ads, and in-app purchases run $4.99–$59.99 (Play store page, 11-06).

The principle is the same as the "Water Eject" Shortcuts workflow that has circulated on iPhone for years, and the water-ejection lock on Apple Watch. TikTok is full of free "clean your speaker sound" videos: one from July 18 titled "Speaker Cleaner 2026" got 11.4M views, and another from July 12, "new speaker cleaning sound, play this audio to clean your phone," got 6.86M views (TikTok search, 11-06). In other words, what it sells is free online to begin with. Users pay with ad views and get "one tap, several modes, looks professional."

How fast it grew

The curve jumps in steps: mid-August, around Sep 10, and early October. Word-of-mouth doesn't spread this neatly. It looks more like budget being added one tier at a time (inference).

There are 14,753 ratings, adding 270–430 a day, with a global average of 4.88 stars. But on the India store page it shows 4.6, and in the UAE 4.4 (Google Play, 11-06). Only 67 reviews have written text, under 0.5%. The category leader Clear Wave has 1,500+ written reviews and 10k one-star ratings. A score this high with this little text usually means an in-app rating prompt that asks "are you satisfied?" and only sends happy users to the store (inference). A high rating in turn lifts the store page conversion rate.

It has never appeared on the overall or Top Grossing charts, only on the free chart of the Tools category. In Nov 6 it charted in 18 countries, its best placements being Turkey #58, South Africa #66, and Thailand #77; in Taiwan, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, India, Nigeria, Spain, Poland, Mexico, and France it ranked between 89 and 192 (Google Play Tools Top Free, 11-06).

Who made it

The "About the developer" section on the store page lists HKB Technology Limited, with an address in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong, but the phone number starts with +84, a Vietnamese number. This Hong Kong company was only incorporated in August 2024.

Following the website it lists, 5star-software.com, and the support email, the same website and email are tied to 5 developer accounts, with names that are variations of Go / Sky / Smart Technology. In total there are 14 apps, roughly 155M installs combined. Its best known are the flashlight call alert from 2019 (57.3M), data recovery (29.1M), clap-to-find-phone (21M), anti-theft alarm (10.9M), a cracked-screen prank (8.52M), and a zipper lock screen (5.83M). Some categories are published twice under two accounts: there are two anti-theft alarms and two IPTV players.

So this is not a one-off hit from an independent developer. It looks like a Vietnam-linked tool-app factory (inference, high confidence), and speaker cleaning is just one more ready-made category they picked up in 2026. The acquisition model, ad monetization, and store-page template were all carried over directly from the earlier ten-million-plus products.

How it climbed

Riding two big keywords in the name. The package name is speakercleaner.watereject.dustremover, and the title combines "speaker cleaner" and "volume booster," two high-search-volume terms. It's almost the same name as Firehawk's "Speaker Cleaner・Volume Booster," which launched in 2021 and has 27M installs. The adjacent volume-booster category is larger still, with leaders at 88M installs.

A local title for every market. In Turkey it's "Hoparlör Temizle, Sesi Artır," and in Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Mexico, France, and Taiwan ("清理喇叭,音量增強") the titles are the local-language version of "clean + increase volume" (Google Play country charts, 11-06). This is the cheapest and most overlooked step.

Buying installs in cheap countries. Almost all the countries where it charted are emerging markets where acquisition is cheap. There's no evidence of which platform the spend went to: it doesn't appear in the Meta ad library, while the competitor Ejecta, active at the same time, ran 40 ads on Meta from a page under a fake name, "Olivia Garcia." Google app promotion ads are the most likely channel (inference, unconfirmed).

Timing the season. Launched in July, scaled up 8–October, and lined up with the monsoon in India and Southeast Asia.

There's no press coverage, no one has discussed it on X in the past 90 days, and no creators it paid were found. Almost all of its traffic comes from in-store browsing and ads.

Who it's competing with

Plenty, and most of them are older and bigger than it (Google Play, 11-06):

It's the fastest-growing this week, but it's not even twice the size of second place. Meanwhile at least 7 other new entrants were pushing in the same 2026 window. The annotations in the table matter more: two same-period copycats have already made the top ten of Turkey's Tools Top Grossing, and the veteran Firehawk and Clear Wave are on the Tools Top Grossing charts in India and Thailand, while this one has not charted on any grossing chart. The one pushing volume hardest isn't necessarily the best at collecting money.

On iOS there's a group of older products (Clear Wave with 37k ratings, Tiny Boom's Water Eject with 31k), and this one didn't build an iOS version.

Does it make money

You can't see from the outside. It's not on any grossing chart, and no revenue is public. The in-app purchases are listed at $4.99–$59.99, most likely ad removal and a subscription. The main income is probably ads, paying back in cheap countries where ad revenue exceeds acquisition cost (inference). Several similar apps making Turkey's and India's grossing charts shows the category can collect money; it's just that each user is worth little.

If it were you

One-line verdict: This is a category with near-zero entry barriers that is already full. The winners compete on acquisition and monetization math, not on the product. An ordinary indie developer copying it will most likely be the eighth or ninth copycat.

Who it suits: small teams that have already run tool-app paid acquisition on Google Play, have ad monetization and ASO workflows in place, and have several accounts. For you, it's a ready-made seasonal category that comes back every year and could be one line in a product portfolio.

Who it doesn't suit: people who have never run ads and are counting on organic store traffic or content to build momentum, and anyone wanting to build on iOS (the system and Shortcuts already solve it for free).

How to do it: Don't build "yet another speaker cleaner." What's worth trying is the parts it did poorly: first, monetization. Its contemporary competitors have already reached the grossing charts, which means there's room in paywall and ad-placement design. Second, languages and countries it hasn't covered: beyond the 18 countries where it charted, Latin America, French-speaking Africa, and local-language titles for other South Asian languages haven't been seriously worked. Third, use it as the entry point to a toolkit for "small phone problems" (water damage, speakers, microphone test, earpiece volume), not a single function.

How to acquire users: Store search is the foundation. Put both "clean" and "volume boost" in the title, write a local-language title for each market, then run Google app promotion ads in cheap countries, pacing around the rainy season and summer. The free sound videos on TikTok with tens of millions of views are a natural creative direction, but they are also your free substitutes.

When to get in: The northern-hemisphere monsoon is over. The next peak in India and Southeast Asia is 6–September next year. To get in, have the product and multi-language store pages ready early in the year, and start testing with a small budget in May.

What would show you misjudged it: If by next year's monsoon this app's and several same-period copycats' weekly new installs fall back to tens of thousands while the veteran leaders hold steady, the wave was short-term volume driven by ad spend, and the category has no room left for newcomers. If Google Play starts mass-removing similar cleaner apps, or major Android manufacturers build speaker cleaning into the system, the category has hit its ceiling.

Where users come from
  • Verified Developer matrix / cloning a proven category: 5star-software.com + [email protected] has 5 developer accounts with 14 apps total, about 155M installs combined. Anti-theft alarm and IPTV each got published twice under different accounts (googleplay library).
  • Verified Store search ASO (double-keyword title and package name): package name speakercleaner.watereject.dustremover, title Speaker Cleaner Volume Booster. Nearly identical to Firehawk, which has 27M installs.
  • Inferred Paid acquisition (likely Google App Campaigns): 8-16, 9-10, 10-01~08 scaled up in steps. Charted countries are all low-cost emerging markets. Not found in the Meta, Google, or TikTok ad libraries.
  • Inferred Prompted reviews: rating 4.88, 1–3 stars make up 0, and only 0.45% of ratings include text. Peers have tens of thousands of 1-star reviews.
  • Verified Category chart exposure: TOOLS Top Free in 18 countries. #8 in Taiwan, peaked at #36 in Thailand.
  • Inferred Seasonal demand (monsoon) + TikTok category education: launched in July, scaled up 8–October. The most-liked reviews come from Indian users. Similar sound videos have tens of millions of views on TikTok, but no paid campaigns of its own were found.

Why Speaker Cleaner Volume Booster (speakercleaner.watereject.dustremover) got traction

Conclusion first

This isn't an app with anything new. The "water eject / dust clean" category has existed since 2015, and the top apps in it already had 20M to 28M installs on Google Play. In 2026 alone, at least 7 copycats appeared. It took off because of a Vietnam-linked tools app factory: using the same playbook, it republished a proven need under a new package name, stuffing both Speaker Cleaner and Volume Booster into the title. It launched during the India and Southeast Asia monsoon and bought installs in cheap markets (Turkey, Southeast Asia, India, South Africa, the Middle East) to push category charts, then recouped through ads and in-app purchases (priced $4.99–$59.99). Differentiation is close to zero. The real reason is this team's distribution capability.

1. What it is and how the data looks

  • What it is: it plays a specific frequency with vibration to "push" water and dust out of the speaker. It also includes volume boost, speaker testing, and a decibel meter. It has ads and in-app purchases (the store page says Contains ads / In-app purchases), with IAP prices from $4.99–$59.99 (googleplay library app_snap, 2026-11-06).
  • First released 2026-07-13. Developer account: Sky Technology Labs. The "About the developer" section on the store page says HKB Technology Limited: address in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong; phone +84 (a Vietnamese number); email [email protected] (from the Play store page, read via r.jina.ai, 2026-11-06). This Hong Kong company was registered in 2024-08-21, BR No. 76965236 (tempb.com / ltddir.com).
  • Installs: 2026-11-06 total 1,952,206, +340,168 over the last 7 days (googleplay library app_profile). Per AppstoreSpy's estimated history (app_day_ext): only 6,500 at the end of July, scaling up from 16 in Aug (about 19k a day), 1 360k in Sep, passing 5 1M in Oct, with early October days at 6–140k a day; October added roughly 1M for the full month, and early November is running 1.6–45k a day.
  • Ratings: 14,753 in total, 4.88 average, adding 270–430 per day (googleplay library app_day, 10-29~11-06). The histogram from 10-31 on is all 1–3 stars 0 (10-29 it was still [81,0,81,1386,10439]). Only 67 reviews include text (0.45%). Compared with peers: Clear Wave has 1,547 text reviews and 1 stars with 10,600 ratings; Firehawk has 766 text reviews and 1 stars with 13,681 ratings. The top reviews on the store page come from Indian users (Safik Ansari, Vatsraj Chavda, Arul, 2026 September).
  • Charts: only on the TOOLS category Top Free chart, never on the overall or Top Grossing charts. The number of charted countries fluctuated between 7 and 18. The best result was #8 in Taiwan (11-06). Others ranged from #58–190 (Turkey, South Africa, Thailand, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, India, Nigeria, UAE, Spain, Poland, Philippines, Mexico, Italy, France). 10-30 Thailand #36 (googleplay library chart_rank).

There's also the adjacent "volume booster" category (it borrows the term in its name): Volume Booster GOODEV 88.8M, 360 Tool's Volume Booster 73.3M, and others, at much larger scale.

iOS (appstore library): Clear Wave (Appchi, 37,236 ratings), Water Eject ‒ Speaker Cleaner (Tiny Boom, 2024,31,142), Sonic | Water Eject (2015,21,875), Water Eject ~ Speaker Wizard (13,589). This one has no iOS app.

Free substitutes: on TikTok, single videos for "speaker cleaner sound"-type queries get 11M to 56M views (TikHub search "speaker cleaner", e.g. @ringocaremyanmar 56.3M, @spekercleane 27.4M). Web versions include speakercleaner.com and fixmyspeakercleanernow.com, which are 165Hz audio pages. iPhone has the widely shared "Water Eject" Shortcut, and Apple Watch has a built-in water lock that ejects water. Some Android vendors also build a "clean speaker" feature into their systems (specific models not verified one by one).

Conclusion: the category is crowded, the barrier to entry is close to zero, and at least 7 new apps have been buying installs at the same time in 2026. It's gained +340k in the last 7 days, the fastest in the category, but it's less than double the #2 (SONYA +196k).

3. Growth tactics

  1. Developer matrix + cloning playbook (confirmed). The same website 5star-software.com and the same email [email protected] have 5 developer accounts attached: Go Technology Global, GoTechnology Global, Sky Technology Labs, SkyTechnology Global, Smart Technology Labs. The library holds 14 apps in total, about 155M installs combined (googleplay library app.developer_domain). Notable titles include Flash Alert & Led Flashlight (57.3M, 2019), All Recovery (29.1M), Find Your Phone with Clap (21M), Anti Theft Alarm (10.9M), Haha Prank (8.52M), Zipper Lock Screen (5.83M), All Language Translator (5.23M), and Easy Draw AR (4.62M). The same category gets published under different accounts: anti-theft alarm has antipro and iantiforphone, and IPTV players have GoLive TV and Smart Live TV. The official site title literally says HKB Technology Limited, and the download button points to GoTechnology Global. In short, this is a Vietnamese team (+84 phone number, Vietnam among target markets, Vietnamese traces in package names) that mass-produces "phone utility / prank" apps. Speaker cleaning is just another ready-made category they picked up in 2026.
  2. Paid acquisition, most likely Google App Campaigns (inferred, not confirmed). Three reasons: the curve scaled in steps on 8-16, 9-10, and 10-01~10-08, which looks like budget increases rather than organic word of mouth. Every charted country is a cheap-to-acquire emerging market. Rating growth and install growth moved together. Our Meta ad library didn't show it (the Meta library only tracks pages that appeared in keyword top results, while peers Ejecta and Piontech both run on Meta). It's not in the Google or TikTok ad library lists either. So the platform is unconfirmed.
  3. Store search / ASO (confirmed). The package name is speakercleaner.watereject.dustremover. The title "Speaker Cleaner Volume Booster" combines two high-volume terms, "clean" and "volume boost". The description is packed with Dust Remover, Water Eject, and Decibel Meter. It's nearly identical to Firehawk's "Speaker Cleaner・Volume Booster", which has 27M installs.
  4. Prompted reviews (inferred). Rating 4.88; 1–3 stars make up 0, and only 0.45% of ratings include text. That suggests an in-app rating prompt is likely (a common pattern is to ask "are you happy?" and only send happy users to the store). High ratings in turn boost its conversion and ranking in store search.
  5. Season and demand (timing). Launched in July, scaled 8–October, right during the monsoon in India and Southeast Asia (the top review came from an Indian user). Water in phones and muffled speakers are year-round problems, and TikTok keeps "explaining" them. TikTok has a lot of videos that say "turn the volume all the way up and play this sound," which educate users about the whole category. No creator or content campaign for this app specifically was found, though.
  6. No media coverage, discussion on X (x-radar search for "speaker cleaner" in the last 90 days returned nothing relevant), Reddit threads, or public revenue figures were found.

4. Why it took off

  • Demand is ready-made: the category leaders have over 20M installs, and similar sound videos on TikTok have tens of millions of views. No user education needed.
  • Distribution capability is ready-made: this team has already used the same approach to build tools apps with 57M, 29M, and 21M installs. Their paid-acquisition model, ad monetization, and ASO templates can be copied directly.
  • Keyword combos and high ratings lifted the store conversion rate, putting it on the TOOLS Top Free chart in 18 countries and bringing in organic traffic from chart placement and search.
  • Monetization: ads plus high-priced in-app purchases (ad removal / subscription). It isn't on a Top Grossing chart, so per-user revenue is low; it likely pays back through cheap-market acquisition costs and ad revenue (inferred).

5. Differentiation

The feature list (multiple sound-wave frequencies, vibration cleaning, speaker test, decibel meter, volume boost) matches its peers, with no unique feature in sight. Its difference is purely in distribution: matrix-style publishing, two-keyword naming, and heavily inflated ratings. Product differentiation is not why it took off.

6. How visible it is

Almost no one knows about it: no press coverage, no discussion on X, no public revenue. Only auto-generated pages on AppBrain, AndroidRank, and APK mirror sites. But the category itself is crowded (at least 7 new apps in 2026 years), and the barrier to copying is very low, so whether others can see it matters little.

7. What to borrow

  • The "existing demand × republished under new package names" tool-factory play: pick a category that top Play tools with 20M+ installs have proven, where function alone drives usage; swap in a different keyword-combo title, buy installs in cheap markets to push into category charts; and publish the same category across multiple developer accounts to spread ban risk and occupy more search slots.
  • Merge adjacent category keywords (cleaner + volume booster) into the title.
  • Keep the rating prompt pushing scores above 4.8 to lift store conversion.
  • Time the launch around demand peaks like rainy season or summer.

8. Still unclear

  • There's no evidence on which channels it bought installs from, how much it spent, or how long payback took. It isn't in the Google or TikTok ad libraries, and Meta returned nothing.
  • In-app purchase revenue: it hasn't charted on any Top Grossing list, so revenue is probably modest; unverified.
  • Whether 1–3 stars were 0 is a question of how Google's histogram counts, or whether bad reviews were deleted or ratings were faked. There's no way to tell.
  • Whether HKB and the Vietnamese HKB Global (hkbglobal.com.vn, a HR and investment company) are the same entity is unverified.
