The store calls it "quiet ringtones." The ads sell Naat: Mera Noor got 330k installs in five weeks
What it is An Android app for Indian Muslims: Naat ringtones, holy-site wallpapers, prayer alarms. First 3 days ₹3, then ₹249 a month, auto-charged.
Why it took off The same team first proved "paid acquisition + ₹3 trial converting to auto-charge" on RingBook, a name-ringtone app. Then they put Islamic content on an old package name and bought the installs with Google Ads. The product itself has nothing new.
CHow you could approach it Only worth it for a team with an Indian entity, UPI auto-debit, and an ad budget. Skip the crowded Islamic and Hindu niches, go after languages and small communities nobody serves yet, and state the price and how to cancel clearly.
- Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-09-29 · 11-07 installs 330,723
Android · Total installs worldwide Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.
In Oct 15, a bad review appeared on Mera Noor's Google Play page: "499 was deducted through AutoPay." 60 people marked it helpful, and it's still the app's most-liked review. The app was relisted in late September with a store blurb of one line, "Escape daily noise. A curated collection of tranquil ringtones & gentle alarms," filed under Productivity. The people installing it want Islamic ringtones, Makkah and Madinah wallpapers, and prayer alarms. They pay ₹3 to try it, then get charged monthly. This piece covers how it went from zero to 330k installs in five weeks, how the money gets collected, and why most people shouldn't copy it.
What it is
The website, meranoor.zarvonis.com, is titled "Islamic Ringtones, Wallpapers, Alarms & Naats": Naats (poems praising the Prophet) and recitations as phone ringtones, HD wallpapers of holy sites and mosques, dawn prayer alarms, a daily Dua, and one-tap sharing to WhatsApp Status. There's also an AI Q&A that claims its answers come from the Quran. The site repeats the same disclaimer several times: not religious guidance, may be wrong, consult a scholar.
Mera Noor means "my light" in Hindi/Urdu. The target user is clear: Hindi- and Urdu-speaking Muslims in India, on Android, comfortable paying through UPI.
Pricing is under "Transparent Pricing" on the site: first 3 days ₹3, then ₹249/month. The store page shows no in-app purchases, because payment doesn't go through Google Play. It goes through UPI AutoPay: during the trial the user authorizes automatic debits, and after 3 days the merchant charges monthly. Early complaints and YouTube refund tutorials cite ₹499, while the site now says ₹249. Whether the price was cut, or ₹499 is just the authorization cap, is unclear (unverified).
The developer, Zarvonis Ventures, is listed at HSR Layout, Bengaluru. LinkedIn says it was founded in 2026 and has 11–50 employees. The privacy policy is hosted on a Google Sites page, and the URL still contains "todo-privacy-policy."
How the traffic built up
| Date | Total installs | Source |
|---|---|---|
| September | 15 → 69 | Third-party estimate |
| 10-07 | About 9,800 | Third-party estimate |
| 10-15 | About 50k | Third-party estimate |
| 10-26 | About 214k | Third-party estimate |
| 10-29 | 214,324 | Google Play installs |
| 11-05 | 330,723 | Google Play installs, 7 days +116k |
Fastest around Oct 20, roughly 50k a day (est.). Growth stalled for three days from 10-29 to 10-31, then 11-01 brought in nearly 40k in one day. A curve that starts and stops like this looks more like the ad budget being adjusted than word of mouth (inferred).
On the charts it has only ever appeared on India's free Productivity chart, ranked between 45 and 66. It has never made the overall top charts. With 330k installs it has just over two hundred reviews, about 0.07%, where a typical app sits at 0.5% to 2%. Once people install, they say almost nothing.
Where users come from: bought, not searched
Google Ads, which it admits to. The site has a page called "Transparency & Platform Commitments" listing changes it has made: removed absolute claims from the store and website, added developer contact details, "confirmed that the merchant name in Google Ads matches the registered company name," and stated the trial and subscription terms on the landing page. A company publishing a page like that is most likely fixing things after Google reviewed its ads (inferred). How much it spent and what the creatives looked like isn't in Google's Ads Transparency Center (unverified). I also found no sign of Meta ads.
Store search doesn't bring this volume. The title is "Mera Noor," the description is one English sentence, and the category is Productivity. None of the terms users actually search, like Islamic, Naat, ringtone, or Makkah, appear. The store page is deliberately bland and shows no religious character. The religious content lives in the ad creatives and on the website. That makes review easier and makes it simpler to swap the skin later (inferred).
An old package name in a new skin. The package name is zarvonis.wallpaper.app. In September it was just a wallpaper app with a few dozen installs. It was republished on Sep 29, and the listing date reset with it. The first positive reviews from Oct 7 are nearly identical: "Amazing wallpapers, love it. Great collection and quality…" They praise the wallpapers, not Naats. These reviews are probably fake or solicited (inferred).
One funnel, many audiences. The same developer also runs car.app (RingBook, a name-ringtone app with 3.14M installs, 7 days +375k, same ₹499 AutoPay), clock.com (Mera Maula, another Islamic skin), astro.app (Mera Ai), chandan.app (AstroRekha, Hindu astrology), plus fitness.app and habit.app. They register a batch of generic package names, then put content on whichever audience they want to reach. Once RingBook worked, Mera Noor was the same playbook pointed at Muslim users.
Nothing on X or Reddit, and no press coverage. YouTube has a few small Hindi channels covering it. MR SETH INDIAN posted "Mera Noor App Kya Hai" in Oct 18 (1,703 views), then "AutoPay Kaise Band Kare" (how to stop autopay), 982 views. Someone posted "autopay refund" in Nov 2. These videos don't add volume, but they show enough people were being charged to go looking for how to get refunds.
Where the money comes from
The money doesn't come from retention. It comes from how the charges are structured. The ₹3 trial requires authorizing debits, and after 3 days ₹249 is charged automatically (early on it may have been ₹499). Users in smaller towns often don't know how to cancel the authorization, and many only learn about it from the debit SMS. In June someone on LinkedIn wrote a critique of this model titled "the ₹1 trial is not a trial. it's a ten-year mandate": sign once, and the merchant decides when to charge.
Here's the math. On Android in India, a single install costs very little, usually a few to a dozen rupees (est.). If only a few percent of bought installs get charged one or two ₹249 payments, the acquisition cost is recovered. Skipping Google Play billing also saves the 15% cut. Revenue isn't public, but on this model Zarvonis is presumably making money (inferred).
Who's competing
This category in India is already saturated, and Mera Noor is itself a copycat.
| Competitors | Scale (Google Play installs, 11-06) | How it differs |
|---|---|---|
| Barakah: Divine Islamic App(Bharat Consumers) | 4.44M, 7 days +325k | Same positioning, content and model, at 13× the scale. The package name carries over from the Hindu-temple version, Screen Mandir. |
| Noor Wallpaper Status Ringtone(HSR Energy) | 3.98M, 7 days +88k | Also does Makkah wallpapers, Naat ringtones, and WhatsApp Status, with Noor in the name, and openly markets itself as Islamic on the store page. |
| Islam Noor: Ringtone & Poster(AppsLab Studio) | 1.87M, 7 days +54k | Adds "Quran posters with your own photo." The same developer has a string of poster apps split by community. |
| Bhaktilok(SPACEWIRE TECH) | 5.67M, 7 days +190k | The Hindu version, with the same flood of AutoPay refund tutorials on YouTube. |
| Daily Bhakti | 5.16M, 7 days +480k | Hindu videos and audio, first listed this January. |
| Sri Mandir(AppsForBharat) | Category leader, 2025-06 raised ₹175 crore in Series C (TechCrunch) | The source of this playbook. It has real online worship and ritual services. |
| Zedge, Muslim Pro | Hundreds of millions of installs | One is a general ringtone and wallpaper app, the other a prayer-times and Quran tool. Neither relies on a hard paywall. |
Mera Noor isn't the first, and it isn't the biggest. The product has nothing competitors don't have. The one slightly new element is the Quran AI Q&A, and nothing shows that feature drove any volume. It grew because the team had already proven the acquisition and billing playbook on RingBook, then added a disposable skin.
If it were you
Verdict: C. There's a lot to learn, but copying it isn't worth it. Few people know about it yet, but the playbook is an open secret in India's app circles. Every religion and every language already has a player several times its size, and regulators and Google have started to act.
Who it suits: teams that already have an Indian company entity, can handle UPI AutoPay, have an acquisition team and budget, and have a funnel that already works. For them, adding another audience skin takes a few weeks. That's exactly what Zarvonis did.
Who it doesn't suit: overseas indie developers and small teams. Without an Indian entity and UPI auto-debit, the model isn't available. People without an ad budget are out too, because there's no organic traffic here. Anyone who cares about reviews and a durable product should stay away. The profit here sits in charges users don't notice, and bad reviews and refund tutorials only pile up.
How to do it (if you must): don't make another Islamic ringtone app. Barakah and Noor Wallpaper already hold that spot. Look for audiences and languages where no one has built a strong paywall: slice by state, by language (Tamil, Bengali, Malayalam), and by small community (Sikh, Kerala Christian, Buddhist). Make the content real, and put the subscription price and cancellation method on the first screen. The version Mera Noor is now, the one Google's review and regulators have already looked at, is the one to avoid. Starting with the compliant version is the only way it lasts.
How to acquire users: run Google Ads and Meta with religious-content creatives and state the price on the landing page. WhatsApp Status sharing is the only place organic traffic might come from, so make the share button work well. Don't count on the store page to bring traffic.
When to get in: this is an arbitrage window, not a business you can build over time. India's central bank rules on e-mandates and Google's subscription-transparency requirements will only get stricter. The later you enter, the smaller the gap you can exploit.
What would show this grade is wrong: ① Mera Noor or RingBook is pulled from Google Play before year-end, or is forced onto Play billing. That would mean the window is closing, and even C is too high. ② Mera Noor is still growing six months from now and passes a million installs, without a clear rise in bad reviews. That would mean these users genuinely pay monthly for religious content, so this is more than charge arbitrage and C underrates it. ③ Someone in a language or community nobody serves yet reaches several hundred thousand installs with transparent subscriptions instead of auto-debit. That would show real demand in the category and make it worth following closely.

- Confirmed Google Ads paid acquisition: the official compliance statement reads 'Confirmed that the business name in Google Ads matches our legal incorporation records', and they added subscription disclosures. Creative volume not verified (the Transparency Center query was blocked, and our library doesn't track it).
- Confirmed Old package name re-skinned + developer portfolio copying: package name zarvonis.wallpaper.app. In September it had only 15–69 installs. After 9-29 republish the dates were reset, and early reviews talk about 'wallpapers'. The same developer has car.app (RingBook, 3.14M installs, same ₹499 AutoPay), clock.com (Mera Maula), astro.app and other generic package names.
- Inferred Incentivized or fake reviews: 10-07 of the first reviews are nearly word-for-word identical ('Amazing wallpapers, love it. Great collection and quality…'). 330k installs but only about 248 reviews.
- Inferred Store search / ASO: the store copy has no religious or ringtone search terms, and the category is Productivity. Not the source.

Why Mera Noor (zarvonis.wallpaper.app) is getting traction
Channel: Google Play (India) | Developer: Zarvonis Ventures Private Limited (Bengaluru) | Research date 2026-11-06
Bottom line
Mera Noor didn't win on product. It took a playbook already proven in India (devotional ringtones and wallpaper apps, ₹1–3 trial, then monthly UPI AutoPay charges), put an Islamic skin on it, launched fast on an old package name, and bought installs through Google Ads. The installs are essentially bought; the revenue comes back through the trial-to-subscription charge funnel. Its differentiation is thin: a "Screen Mandir" for Hindi- and Urdu-speaking Muslims in India. That angle is already taken by others (Barakah, Noor Wallpaper, Islam Noor), and they're bigger.
1. What it is
- The store page says "Escape daily noise. A curated collection of tranquil ringtones & gentle alarms." It's listed under Productivity, package name
zarvonis.wallpaper.app. The store copy never mentions religion (googleplay libraryapptable; Play page 2026-11-06). - On the official site meranoor.zarvonis.com, its real positioning is: Islamic ringtones (Naat, Quran recitation), HD holy-site wallpapers, prayer alarms, Naat / Dua, with one-tap sharing to WhatsApp Status. It also added an "AI answers drawn from the Quran" feature with a disclaimer.
- Pricing: the site says ₹3 for the first 3 days, then ₹249/month ("Transparent Pricing" section). The Play library shows
offers_iap = False, meaning it doesn't use Google Play billing; charges go through a UPI AutoPay mandate. YouTube refund tutorials are tagged "zarvonis ventures pvt ltd autopay", and the top negative review on Play says "499 was deducted through AutoPay" (2026-10-15,60 people found it helpful). So early on ₹499 was charged (possibly ₹499 was RingBook's price, or it was the mandate cap). The site now says ₹249; not verified.
2. Data
| Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Total installs | 330,723(2026-11-06) | googleplay library app_snap |
| 7 new in the last day | 116,399 (about 16.6k/day) | app_profile |
| curve | September: only 15→69 installs (old wallpaper shell); 10-05 started scaling, 10-07 to 9,802,10-15 to 50k, 10-20 peak day about 50k (averaged), 10-26 to 214k, 11-05 to 330k | app_day_ext (AppstoreSpy estimate) + our own collection |
| Listing date | Store shows 2026-09-29; AppstoreSpy first observed this package name in 09-01, so the date was reset when the shell was re-released. | app / app_day_ext |
| Charts | Only on India's Productivity free chart, ranked 45–66, never on the overall chart. | chart_rank 10-29~11-06 |
| Rating | 4.2 stars, about 245–248 reviews | Play page 2026-11-06 |
| Review / install ratio | ≈0.07% (typical apps: 0.5%–2%) | calculated |
Notes:
- 330k installs with only about 250 reviews. Almost no organic word of mouth, consistent with a user base brought in by paid ads and held back by a paywall.
- The first few positive reviews (10-07) are nearly identical: "Amazing wallpapers, love it. Great collection and quality. Beautiful wallpapers, very smooth app…" They still talk about 'wallpapers'. Likely incentivized or fake reviews from before or around the re-skin.
- The install curve flattened for a few days around 10-28–10-31 (ipd≈0), then recovered from 11-01. Looks like on-and-off ad budget, not verified.
III. Competitors
This is an already crowded category. The India playbook of "devotional content + cheap trial + AutoPay" traces back to Sri Mandir (AppsForBharat, launched in 2020, raised a 2025-06 Series C of ₹175 crore at a valuation of about $175M; covered by TechCrunch in 2025-06-30).
| Competitors | Platform | Launched | Scale (googleplay library 2026-11-06) | How it differs from Mera Noor |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Barakah: Divine Islamic App(Bharat Consumers,com.screenmandir.app) | Android | The package name is carried over from Screen Mandir, which predates 2026. | 4.44M installs, +325k in 7 days | Same positioning, content (Islamic wallpapers, ringtones) and model, at 13× Mera Noor's scale. Mera Noor is essentially its follower. |
| Noor Wallpaper Status Ringtone(HSR Energy) | Android | Relatively early | 3.98M, 7 days +88k | Also does Makkah Madina wallpapers, Naat ringtones and WhatsApp status, also has "Noor" in the name, ranked 13 on India's Lifestyle chart. |
| Islam Noor: Ringtone & Poster(AppsLab Studio) | Android | Relatively early | 1.87M, 7 days +54k | Adds "Quran posters with the user's photo". The same developer also runs community-split poster apps like Jai Bhim and Post Karo. Same portfolio playbook. |
| Bhaktilok Ringtone & Wallpaper(SPACEWIRE TECH) | Android | Relatively early | 5.67M, 7 days +190k | Hindu version. YouTube has many "Bhaktilok autopay refund" tutorials, showing the same model. |
| Daily Bhakti | Android | 2026-01-30 | 5.16M, 7 days +480k | Hindu video and audio content. |
| Sri Mandir(AppsForBharat) | Android / iOS | 2020-11 | Leader, raised over $100M. | Category origin. Does real puja and ritual services with server-side fulfillment. |
| Zedge | Android / iOS | Long-established | 659M | General ringtone and wallpaper app, free with ads, not split by religion. |
| Muslim Pro, WeMuslim, Quran-type apps. | Android / iOS | Long-established | Tens of millions to hundreds of millions | Utility apps (prayer times, Quran). They don't monetize through ringtones and wallpapers. |
| Same-name "Mera Noor: Quran & Prayer" (Vaitly Limited, iOS id 6776292945, meranoor.com). | iOS | 2026-06-16 | Ratings 0 | Just the same name, unrelated to Zarvonis. The Mera Noor name isn't exclusive either. |
Bottom line: competitors aren't scarce, and they're bigger. Mera Noor isn't the first, isn't the biggest, and has no distinctive product.
IV. Growth levers (where users come from)
- Google Ads paid acquisition (confirmed). The "Transparency & Platform Commitments" section of the site states: "Confirmed that the business name in Google Ads matches our legal incorporation records". It also says they "removed absolute claims from the store and website" and "disclosed the subscription model on the landing page". That suggests they run Google Ads and were reviewed or asked to fix things by Google, which is why these compliance statements were added. Our googleads library doesn't track this advertiser (not on the list), and the direct Transparency Center query was blocked by a Google sorry page, so the number and format of creatives are unverified.
- Store search is not the source. The store title is "Mera Noor", the description is generic English copy, and the category is Productivity. There are no Islamic, Naat or Ringtone search terms, so ASO couldn't have produced 330k installs. The store copy is deliberately de-religionized and bland, more likely meant to get through review and reduce policy risk and to make a later re-skin easier. Users came from ads showing religious content, not from search.
- Old package name re-skinned (confirmed). The package is
wallpaper.app. In September it had only a few dozen installs, and the dates were reset after 9-29 republish. The earliest reviews talk about 'wallpapers'. The same developer's other packages includecar.app(RingBook, name ringtones),astro.app(Mera Ai),clock.com(Mera Maula),chandan.app(AstroRekha-BhaktiDham),fitness.appandhabit.app. It looks like they register a batch of generic package names first, then put on whatever community or religious content is needed. - Portfolio copying (confirmed). RingBook already has 3.14M installs, 7 days +375k, ranked 13 on India's Productivity chart and 115–176 on the overall chart. Same ₹499 AutoPay (YouTube "RingBook App AutoPay Cancel & Refund | ₹499 AutoPay", 2026-09-21,5,871 views). Mera Noor is this funnel copied onto a Muslim audience. Mera Maula (another Islamic shell), AstroRekha (Hindu astrology) and Mera Ai (AI singing) are also being rolled out.
- YouTube side-channel tutorials (organic, not paid by the app). MR SETH INDIAN posted "Mera Noor App Kya Hai" (1,703 views, 10-18) and "AutoPay Kaise Band Kare" (982 views); Rihan Monitor posted "Trial Kaise Le" (2.0 views, 936); CREDIT TECH KHUSHI posted "autopay refund" (75 views, 11-02). These are small channels riding search traffic and funneling viewers to Telegram to make money. The content is mostly "how to cancel, how to get a refund," with no real reach. It only shows that enough users are getting charged that they're searching for refund methods.
- X, Reddit, HN, press: x-radar searches for "Zarvonis" and "Mera Noor app" each returned 0 posts. No press coverage. TikTok is banned in India, so it doesn't apply. Our Meta ad library doesn't track this, unverified.
5. Why it took off
- Why now: no platform event. The timing lines up with Zarvonis (LinkedIn says founded 2026, 11–50 people, HSR Layout, Bengaluru) getting the funnel working on RingBook, then copying the same thing to the Islamic audience at the end of September and ramping ad spend. The mid-October single-day peak of about 50k installs matches the spend increase.
- Where users come from: paid ads (Google Ads confirmed; Meta very likely too, not verified).
- Why they pay: not retention, it's the billing mechanism. ₹3 trial requires signing a UPI AutoPay mandate, then after 3 days it auto-bills ₹249 (early on possibly ₹499) monthly. Users in smaller-city markets don't know how to cancel the mandate, so many get charged without realizing it. Evidence: the most-reported 1-star reviews on Play and refund tutorials on YouTube. A LinkedIn post, "the ₹1 trial is not a trial. it's a ten-year mandate" (2026-06-27), breaks down the funnel clearly: the mandate lasts ten years and the merchant decides when to charge.
- How the money comes back: at ₹249/month, you only need a few percent of bought installs to hit the 1–2 billing stage to cover very cheap per-install costs in India (Android paid installs there typically run a few to a dozen rupees; exact figures unverified). Skipping Play In-App Billing also saves the 15% cut.
VI. Differentiation
- Versus Zedge and Muslim Pro: its edge is slicing audiences by religion / language + a hard paywall.
- Versus the real comparables (Barakah, Noor Wallpaper, Islam Noor): almost no difference. The only new thing is an "AI Quran Q&A" (mentioned on the website, with a disclaimer), and there's no sign that feature drives installs.
- Differentiation isn't why it's working. It's working because the team has already validated paid acquisition + the AutoPay funnel, with a swappable shell on top.
7. Visibility
- Revenue is not public (no TrustMRR listing, no founder posting numbers); 0 discussion on X; no media coverage.
- But this category is an open secret in the Indian scene: Sri Mandir's funding has been reported; LinkedIn has posts dissecting the ₹1 trial + AutoPay model; the Pocket FM CEO has publicly criticized this model.
- Bottom line: Mera Noor itself isn't well known yet, but the playbook it runs on is already crowded.
8. Copycats
Found no one specifically copying Mera Noor. Conversely, it is itself a follower of Barakah (Bharat Consumers) and Noor Wallpaper (HSR). The same developer's Mera Maula is another version of it.
9. What to borrow
- One funnel with N audience shells (name ringtones, Islamic, Hindu astrology, AI singing), sharing a generic package ID, payments and ad team; a new shell can hit hundreds of thousands of installs within weeks.
- Keep store copy bland, make religious-content ad creatives, and handle store risk and ad risk separately; if ads get rejected, add a "transparent compliance statement" section to the website and keep running ads.
- Risk: AutoPay funnels like this are getting more sensitive with Indian regulators and public opinion (RBI rules on e-mandates, Google's subscription transparency policies); complaints and refund tutorials keep piling up. It isn't a business that holds up long term; it's more of an arbitrage window.
10. What's unclear
- Number of creatives on Google Ads and Meta, active spend, target regions (Transparency Center queries were blocked, and our library doesn't track it).
- Whether the actual billing price is ₹249 or ₹499; trial-to-paid conversion rate; refund rate.
- Whether installs involve incentivized installs or fake traffic (the very low review/install ratio only shows users aren't engaging; it doesn't directly prove fraud).
- Play lists 0 in-app purchases, but the billing is called "AutoPay"; whether it goes through Razorpay or another UPI gateway is unverified.
