Give away a free editor, sell a $7 plugin: how an Indian YouTuber built a Google Flow batch plugin to 10k users among 100 competitors

What it is A Chrome extension that feeds a whole list of prompts into Google Flow to batch-generate images and videos, auto-downloads them by name, and removes watermarks by default. Free for 30 runs a day, then a $7 one-time purchase.

Why it took off The creator gives away free editors AutoEditor / AutoCapCut on his YouTube channel. The editors need images named by timecode, which this plugin generates in bulk. When two viral videos landed, users spiked, and he started charging $7 right away.

CHow you could follow it Don't build another Flow plugin. Follow the playbook instead: pick one complete creative production line, make the visible step a free tool and the repetitive steps paid mini-plugins, share file conventions between them, and drive traffic through your own tutorial channel (ideally in an underserved audience like Hindi or Spanish speakers).

Grade C: the "free big tool for reach, paid small step for revenue" playbook is worth studying, but the plugin itself is buried among over a hundred similar tools, depends on Google Flow and can be broken by anti-abuse measures or redesigns at any time, and revenue has a low ceiling since growth rests entirely on whether the creator can make another viral video. Few people know about it yet

On Aug 2026-20, an Indian YouTube channel called Try AI Today posted a video titled "Stop Editing Manually — This Free Tool Syncs Images to Audio", giving away a free desktop editing tool. As of 11-06 it has 124k views. The second link in the description goes to the author's own Chrome extension, TryAIToday Flow Automator. This extension batch-generates images on Google Flow. There are already hundreds of similar tools, and its features aren't unique: in August it had only about 350 users, and in October it broke 10k. What drove that curve was the free editor. The extension itself did little of the work.

What it is

Google Flow is Google's AI image and video web app (powered by Veo and Nano Banana), and it takes only one prompt at a time. Flow Automator does something simple: you drop in a whole list of prompts (pasted or uploaded as a .txt), it runs them one by one in the background, and downloads each result under the name you set, images or videos. The store listing goes a bit further than similar tools: reference already-generated character images with @name, name files with #name, build characters and scenes first and then compose them into the final frame so characters stay consistent, auto-retry failures and re-run any prompts that depend on them, remove the watermark in the bottom-right by default, and rotate across up to 3 Flow accounts.

The pricing is the cheapest tier in the category: 30 free uses per day, then a $7 one-time purchase (the landing page says "LAUNCH PRICE"), with a refund if it doesn't work within 20 days. The store page shows 11-05:10,000 users, a rating of 3.7, and 37 reviews. The publisher is Sampathkumar V in Tamil Nadu, India, listed as a trader.

The users were pulled in by a production line

The channel started on 2026 April and as of 11-06 has 6,820 subscribers, 14 videos, and 427k total views (YouTube data, 11-06). Videos about the extension itself don't get many views: 07-25 "Automate google flow with this extension for free" has 7,607 views, and 09-22's extension-focused video has 18k. The two that really took off weren't about the extension:

DateVideoViewsWhere the extension sits in them
08-20"Stop Editing Manually" — free tool AutoEditor, aligns images to voiceover by timecode124,433The second link in the description; step 4 of the workflow: "Generate images with Flow Automator, named by timecode"
09-15"Stop Editing CapCut Manually" — free tool AutoCapCut, auto-builds the CapCut timeline114,188Same step 4

These two videos sell an entire production line for faceless YouTube videos. The description walks through it step by step: record the voiceover → transcribe it with TurboScribe into a timestamped script → paste the author's Master Prompt and the script into Claude to get a list of image prompts named by timecode → batch-generate the images with Flow Automator → open the free AutoEditor or AutoCapCut, import the images and audio, and assemble the video in one click. Each comes with a Google Doc and a Discord group.

The extension's user curve (from extops.dev's records) matches these two videos: 08-17 about 350 → 08-20 AutoEditor video → 09-01 3,000; 09-15 AutoCapCut video → 09-20 7,000, 09-26 9,000. In October there was no new hit, and users stalled at 10k, gaining only 30 in the last 1,000 days.

The key is that the two tools are locked together. The editor aligns images using timecodes in the filenames, and Flow Automator names and downloads files by timecode in order, which feeds straight into it. Someone who grabs the free editor and wants to generate 100 images one by one and rename each will soon go install the extension. A comment under the 08-20 video says "runs on my laptop, no need to pay the website" (08-29). Users remember the free tool; the payment happens in the step next to it.

No discussion turns up on X, no Reddit self-promotion threads, no ad library records, no media coverage. Nearly all of its traffic comes from its own channel.

Where the money comes from: it starts charging as soon as traffic arrives

The 07-25 video's title still says "for free". extops.dev records the 1.0.0 version as posted by 09-02; by 09-08 a comment already reads "But bro now it is paid", right after the AutoEditor video brought in the first wave of people. By the 09-22 video, several commenters self-report "I am a paid user" and "Today i bought the lifetime access". A Pakistani user asked whether local bank payment works (10-16), and someone asked for "a redeem code payment option" (09-28).

The free quota is set well. A 10-minute faceless video needs 50 to 200 images, and 30 free uses a day just isn't enough to finish one. A Spanish-speaking user complained in a comment: "Too bad only 30 uses, at least give the 120 per day Flow itself allows" (09-22). A $7 one-time purchase is low-friction for creators in South Asia and Latin America, who are sensitive to subscriptions. In the same category, autoplaylabs charges $29.99, and most others use monthly fees or credits.

Paying-user counts and revenue aren't public. Assuming 3% to 5% of the 10k users bought, that's a one-time take of $2,000 to $3,500 (estimate). The author has other income too: a 09-05 video about a local video model (44k views) links to Gumroad through an affiliate link.

Who it's competing with

Batch extensions for Google Flow / Veo / Whisk form a crowded category. Since 2025 June, the store has more than 3,000 listings with flow / veo / whisk in the name and over 20 users:

Its weak spots

It lives inside someone else's web page. Around 09-22, Google Flow changed its page and a wave of "unusual activity" risk warnings hit. The reviews filled up with "I paid and can't generate a single image" and "just bought lifetime and haven't finished one project." The author first shipped a manually loaded temporary build, then posted a dedicated video: "Fix Unusual Activity in 1 minutes." Daily rating count went from 18 to 28 between 09-25 and 09-26, and the average dropped from 4.06 to 3.68. It has stayed between 3.5 and 3.7 since, while similar tools mostly sit at 4.0 to 4.6.

Growth stalled. The curve follows viral videos exactly. No viral video in October, no user growth.

A watermark remover won't hold up. Reviews keep asking about watermarks ("images I download in India have a watermark in the bottom right"). Starting 2026-08-15, Gemini / Flow can turn off the visible watermark in most countries, while in India, South Korea and Vietnam only Ultra members can. Its users are concentrated in South Asia, which is why default watermark removal became the selling point. But Google's terms or a takedown could remove that at any time.

There's a deeper alternative too. MCP and API setups already let AI agents drive Flow directly, no plugin needed (scale unverified).

If it were you

C. Don't build the #101 Flow bulk plugin. The move worth copying is the playbook: give away a bigger-looking free tool, then make it depend on a small paid step you own.

Who it's for: indie devs who already make tutorials or run a YouTube channel (or plan to), and who can build a full workflow, not just a single tool. Ideally you know a creator audience nobody serves well yet, like faceless channel makers writing in Hindi (08-20 videos get comments like "Bhai hindi wala use karo," meaning "just make the Hindi one the default"), Spanish, or Portuguese.

Not for you if: you only want to write plugins and won't make content. Searching "flow automation" in the store already gives a full page of the same thing, and without traffic brought in from elsewhere, a new listing sinks straight to the bottom. It's also a poor fit if you want this to be a steady income: at $7 one-time purchase plus platform risk control, the revenue ceiling is low, and a single Google update can cut it off at any time.

How to build it: Pick one complete production line (faceless video, AI comics, AI kids' picture books, product ad videos). Make the most prominent step a free tool (editor, layouter, renderer), and the most repetitive step (batch generation, batch renaming, batch uploading) a paid mini-plugin. Both sides share one file convention, such as naming by timecode or sequence number, so using one means you can't do without the other. Set the free tier at "just short of finishing one finished piece," and sell a $5–10 one-time purchase to price-sensitive users. Avoid putting the paid step on a web page that changes often or risks account bans; if you must, keep a fast hotfix path ready.

How to get users: each video ships a complete package: workflow, prompt doc, Discord. The title sells the step you no longer have to do ("Stop Editing Manually"), not the plugin. Plugin links go in the description, 2nd and 3rd lines. The comments section works as support desk and announcement board.

Before the window closes: Batch demand for AI web tools peaks in the first few months after each new model launch. Flow alone is already crowded; the next big model release (new video or image models that ship on the web without batch features) opens a one- or two-month window for the same play.

What would mean you misread it: ① Google Flow ships an official queue and sequential downloads, and the whole niche vanishes at once; ② someone runs the same "free editor + paid plugin" play in a new language, and a few videos in, none break 10k views, which means this only worked because of the author's two hit videos, not the play itself; ③ the other way: Try AI Today drops another hit, plugin installs jump again, which shows the funnel can be reused, and it's worth copying seriously.

TryAIToday Flow Automator: uses a free desktop editing tool as bait, then sells a bulk Google Flow extension for a $7 one-time purchase

Channel: Chrome Web Store · ID bcmmekkamenpjoogmegiffgemlgikbgf · developer Sampathkumar V (Salem, Tamil Nadu, India; trader status) / GitHub account codewithsiddique-04 · researched 2026-11-06

Bottom line

It sits in a niche already crowded with 100 extensions for bulk Google Flow automation, with no standout features. It works because the author runs a YouTube channel, "Try AI Today", built around a "faceless YouTube video pipeline." It gives away free desktop tools AutoEditor and AutoCapCut (two videos with 110k–120k views each), then pitches Flow Automator as "step 2: bulk image generation" in each video's description. The extension's user curve lines up almost exactly with the publish dates of those hit videos. Monetization uses the cheapest price in the whole niche: 30 free runs per day, then a $7 one-time lifetime purchase.

2. Competitors (doing the same thing)

Bulk automation for Google Flow / Veo / Whisk is a very crowded niche. In the chromestore library, extensions published after 2025-06, with names containing flow/veo/whisk and ≥3,000 users, number 20 or more:

Curve over time: 08-17 about 348 users → 08-20 AutoEditor video published → 09-01 3k; 09-15 AutoCapCut video → 09-20 7k, 09-26 9k; no new hits in October, and users stayed at 9k–10k. The two channel videos that broke 100k are not about the extension itself; the videos about the extension only reached 7k–18k views. So the growth driver is the funnel: free editing tool → full faceless video pipeline → pipeline needs bulk image generation → install the extension.

3.2 Free tools as bait (confirmed)

AutoEditor and AutoCapCut are free and run locally, distributed via Google Drive. AutoEditor's early release also linked to source code (github.com/codewithsiddique-04/autoeditor, no longer visible). A commenter said "runs on my laptop, no paying a website." These tools all require images named by timecode, and Flow Automator's #name labels and ordered downloads fit that exactly; the tools are designed to lock into each other.

3.3 Master Prompt doc + Discord (confirmed)

Every video comes with a Google Doc "Master Prompt" (paste it into Claude to turn a timestamped script into timecoded image prompts), plus a Discord group. Users get a full playbook; the extension is just one piece of it.

3.4 Third-party mentions (partly confirmed)

Exa turns up third-party videos like "I Tested This Free Auto-Editor So You Don't Have To" and "How to Automate CapCut Video Editing in 1-Click (100% Free)", and toolsbhandara.com also reposted AutoEditor. They mostly cover AutoEditor, and I haven't verified how much they drove the extension.

3.5 what I didn't find

In x-radar over the last 90 days, "TryAIToday" and "Flow Automator" each got 0 posts. No self-promo threads on Reddit, no ad evidence, no press coverage, not on TrustMRR. The software download site Softonic indexed it automatically (old name "TryAIToday Automator - Bulk AI Image Generation Toolkit", and the install link slug on the landing page is still tryaitoday-automator-bulk), which suggests it was renamed around September to add the "Flow Automator" search term.

4. Why people are willing to pay

  • The free allowance is set right at the pain point: 30 free uses a day, while Flow itself allows roughly 120 a day; a 10-minute faceless video needs 50–200 images. Comments include people complaining "30 is too few, at least give the full 120 Flow allows per day" (YouTube comment, 2026-09-22).
  • Low price: $7 one-time purchase, far cheaper than autoplaylabs at $29.99 or the monthly plans, and affordable in one payment for South Asian users. Comments include several "I'm a paying user" and "bought the lifetime today" (09-22 to 09-25), plus a Pakistani user asking how to pay with Meezan Bank (10-16).
  • Paid starting early September: the 07-25 video title still says "for free"; 09-08 has a comment "But bro now it is paid"; extops logged the 1.0.0 version posted 09-02. That roughly lines up with the first traffic wave from the AutoEditor videos, followed quickly by the paywall.

5. Risk: rating is slipping

Around 09-22, Google Flow began widely showing 「unusual activity」 warnings (risk controls), and the reviews filled with paying users saying they bought lifetime access but couldn't generate a single image. The review count went from 09-25 to 09-26 in one day, from 18 to 28, and the average dropped from 4.06 to 3.68 (extops). The author made a video specifically titled 「1 minutes to fix Unusual Activity」. Since then the rating has hovered between 3.5 and 3.7, low compared to peers (most sit at 4.0–4.6). Every tool that piggybacks on another company's web page faces this problem.

6. Differentiation, and whether that's why it broke out

  • On features: per-character @name / #name consistency, retry with sub-queues, naming by timecode, and watermark removal by default are more granular than most in the category, but ViralDNA, TheFlow and others also have queues, reference images and sequential downloads, so none of it is unique.
  • The real difference is two things: (1) it's one link in a production line. The same creator shares AutoEditor / AutoCapCut / the Master Prompt, and the extension's naming rules match the editing tool, so users come in through the whole workflow, not by searching the store. (2) Price: $7 one-time sits in a sweet spot between monthly plans and $30 one-time offers.
  • Why it took off: (1) is the main reason, backed by user curves lining up with video publish dates. (2) is why people paid once the traffic arrived. The features only need to be good enough.

7. What to borrow

  1. Use a free, bigger-looking tool as bait; the paid add-on sits in a small link beside it: the free editor gets 120k views, while the paid bulk extension is hidden behind the second link in the description.
  2. Make the free and paid tools share one convention (naming files by timecode), so once users adopt one, they naturally want the other.
  3. The channel sells a "workflow," not tool reviews: each video delivers a complete production line, plus the Master Prompt and a Discord. Users trust the person.
  4. Low one-time price + a daily free allowance, suited to price-sensitive audiences in South Asia and Latin America. The allowance is set at "just not enough to finish one video."
  5. The same engine was rebuilt for another site (a Meta Vibes version). It's cheap to build, but it hasn't gained traction (885 users), which suggests traffic still depends on a viral video.

8. Visibility

Few people know about it yet: 0 posts on X, no press coverage, revenue not disclosed, and it only circulates in the faceless YouTube / AI automation crowd (channel with 6.8k subscribers). The category is already crowded. I haven't seen anyone copy this "free desktop tool as lead magnet" approach.

9. Uncertain

  • Paying user count and revenue are unknown. $7 is a "launch price" and may go up later. The payment processor is unverified (the manifest has no payment domain, and the landing page only says "payment provider").
  • The 348 users of 08-17 come from the extops readings in the recall card; the extops series in our database starts from 09-01.
  • Published 06-29, and the store listing only dates to 09-02 1.0.0. Whether the package was swapped or renamed in between can only be inferred from the old Softonic name.
  • How much traffic the third-party YouTubers brought is unverified (the YouTube search daily quota ran out that day).
  • Risks: Google tightening risk controls, an official bulk feature launching, or MCP / agents driving Flow directly could all hit the whole category. Watermark removal by default may violate Google's terms, so there's a risk of takedown.
