# 600 users, top plan $44.99/month: SolveX only does answer-completion for McGraw Hill homework. It relies on search ranking and the back-to-school season

**What it is** A Chrome extension that only handles McGraw Hill Connect / SmartBook online homework. On the homework page it reads questions, fills in answers, and moves to the next question. Accounts and subscriptions are on the official site, solvex.help.

**Why it took off** After the US fall semester starts, SmartBook assignments arrive with dozens or hundreds of concepts, and students want to save those hours. It captured the top spots for "McGraw Hill Connect AI solver" with 43 long-tail search pages, and it goes one step further than screenshot-based rivals by clicking through the questions for you.

**C** **How you could follow** Don't build another answer-completion plugin; copy the approach instead. Pick an online system that users are forced to use daily, where the experience is bad and the terms allow third-party plugins. Serve only that one platform, automate on the page, and build a set of long-tail search pages written in users' own words.

Grade C: the category is already crowded with a dozen-plus players, and SolveX is itself a latecomer. It stands against the platform: McGraw's new terms explicitly ban it, and the previous leader was shut down by a lawyer's letter, so the window could close at any time. What's worth learning is the acquisition approach of a single platform plus long-tail search. Few people know about it yet

570 users · rating 5.0 (2)

SolveX is a Chrome extension built for just one homework system: McGraw Hill Connect and SmartBook, which many US university courses require. Once installed, it reads questions on the homework page, selects answers, enters them, and moves to the next question automatically. At the end of August it had 59 users, and by early November it had about 600. Not many users, but the top tier costs $44.99 a month. Most people arrive from Google: search "McGraw Hill Connect AI solver" and its official site is the first result. Below: what it is, where users come from, where the money comes from, who is competing, and why the biggest risk to this business isn't the competitors.

### Oct 16, two things on the same day

In 2026 Oct 16, McGraw Hill updated its user terms. The new clause 5(v) is blunt: you may not use any "AI agent, AI-enabled browser, or browser extension" to "view, complete, answer, or submit" assignments and tests unless McGraw Hill gives written consent.

The same day, SolveX's TikTok account @solvexhelp posted two videos. One caption read "Some things weren't meant to do on your own", and the other read "Don't be a disappointment. SolveX.help ensures that. Limited time 10% off with code "FALL2026"".

Neither side responded to the other. In the three weeks after the terms were published, SolveX shipped several more versions (the store page shows v2.5.9,10-29 updates), and its user count kept rising by a dozen or two each day.

### What it is

The first line of the store page reads: "AI solver for McGraw-Hill Connect & SmartBook 2.0". The paragraph below lists the question types in full: multiple choice, true/false, fill-in-the-blank, drag-and-drop, multi-select, matching, and image questions, "by plan," meaning unlocked according to the tier you buy. The official homepage now uses softer wording, "AI Study Helper," and adds a line at the end: "You are responsible for complying with your institution's academic integrity policies".

It has two modes:

- **Auto-Solve** : only used on Connect and SmartBook homework pages. The plugin reads the questions on the page directly, clicks or types in answers, retries wrong ones, uses a second model to double-check when unsure, and then moves on automatically. Speed has three settings, Relaxed, Balanced, and Fast, and the top tier adds Turbo.

- **Snap Solver** : press a shortcut, box-select an area, and send it for recognition to get an answer. Used on ALEKS, Canvas, Blackboard, Google Forms, and PDFs.

The real selling point is the first mode. McGraw Hill's SmartBook assignments are adaptive: a chapter is split into dozens or hundreds of "concepts," and each one requires answering several questions correctly to pass. Complaints like this appear every year on Reddit's r/CollegeRant: "each one for me is like 70+ concepts and takes like 2-3 hours each", "There's 107 "concepts" to complete", "I cannot spend 10 hours on my assignment for one class, work full time". SolveX sells the promise of saving those hours.

The developer has no registered company. The store page only lists a Gmail address (solvex.help@gmail.com), marked "Non-trader".

### Where the money comes from: tiers by question type, plus a $2.99 day pass

The plugin itself is free, but you must log into a solvex.help account to use it. Official pricing page (11-06):

| Tier | Pricing | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free trial | 60 minutes | 100 questions, Connect / SmartBook only, no card required |
| Day Pass | $2.99 / 24 hours | All question types, unlimited, one-time purchase |
| Starter | $14.99 / month | Multiple choice, true/false, fill-in-the-blank, 100 questions per day |
| Pro | $29.99 / month | Adds drag-and-drop, multi-select, Auto-Solve, and retry on wrong answers, 500 questions per day |
| Beast | $44.99 / month, or $14.99 / week | Adds matching and image questions, Turbo, unlimited |

The pricing design is telling: Auto-Solve starts at Pro, matching and image questions are only in Beast, and a single SmartBook assignment often mixes question types. The $2.99 day pass serves the "due tonight at 11:59" crunch, and the weekly plan serves the weeks around midterms and finals.

Revenue isn't public, and it doesn't appear on public indie-developer revenue charts. Rough estimate from 600 users, a 10% conversion rate, and a $20~30 average order: monthly revenue in the low thousands of US dollars (an estimate, with no direct data).

### Where users come from: a matrix of 43 search pages

SolveX's sitemap has 43 pages in three categories:

- Platform pages: connect-solver, smartbook-solver;

- 15 subject pages: accounting, biology, chemistry, and so on. These catch students searching things like "mcgraw hill connect accounting answers";

- 12 long-tail articles, each titled with a query students actually search: can it be detected (detect-cheating), how to finish SmartBook faster, how to see the correct answers in Connect, what to do when Connect won't load.

The SEO works: on Brave in Nov 6, searching "mcgraw hill connect ai solver" puts solvex.help at #1 and #2; "mcgraw hill smartbook answers ai" ranks #4; "smartbook solver extension" ranks #6 and #10. The product name, domain and page titles all say the same thing, so search intent maps one-to-one.

The other two channels are both tiny:

- **TikTok** : @solvexhelp has only 11 followers, and its 8 October videos get 370 to 880 views each. The playbook is campus memes plus a discount code: "Why Prof so mad, just using my resources", "Bypasses all filters in McGraw Hill to help you zoom through busy work". Almost every video pushes FALL2026.

- **A competitor's comparison page** : Silent Student, which makes a desktop auto-answer app, published "Best AI for McGraw Hill Connect" (updated 10-21) and listed both of SolveX's products in it. A rival's own SEO page is sending it traffic.

Nobody on X or in the press is talking about it, and I found no evidence of paid ads.

### Growth curve: lines up with US school start dates

Readings from a third-party extension stats site: Aug 31 59 users, Oct 8 322 users, Nov 6 597 users; up 30 users over the last 332 days, with late October adding roughly +10~20 a day. The Chrome Web Store shows 11-01 users (570). It launched in Jun 19, and almost nobody used it all summer. It only started climbing at the end of August, when school resumed.

The rating has sat at 5.0 stars from 2 ratings for over four months. It has made no effort to prompt reviews. Users arrive from search, install, use it and leave. People in this niche probably aren't keen to post publicly that they used it.

### Who it's competing with: a mature category

There are at least a dozen Chrome extensions for "AI that does your online course work", and McGraw Hill is only one slice. Here's the picture as of early November:

| Product | Launched | Scale | Compared to SolveX |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apex Vision AI | 2023-08 | 8,000 users / 2,101 reviews | General screenshot-to-answer; you fill in the answers yourself; $7.99–19.99/month |
| FastSolve | 2026-02 | 5,000 users / 27 reviews | Screenshot, you fill in; native Connect support "on the roadmap" |
| SnapGPT | 2025-02 | 3,000 users | Screenshot answering with auto-advance but "never submits"; $9.99/month |
| Canvas Quiz Solver | 2024-03 | 2,000 users / 87 reviews | Focused on Canvas; McGraw is just one of several platforms |
| auto-mcgraw (open source on GitHub) | 2025-02 | 88 star | Free, SmartBook only; you connect your own ChatGPT/Gemini account and load it manually |
| Silent Student | 2026 | Not disclosed | Desktop app with a built-in browser; completes and submits the whole assignment; $11.99–49.99/month |
| SmarterBook / SolveMyBook | 2023-09 | 8,000 users, no longer updated | The leading SmartBook-specific tool back then; according to the Canvas Quiz Solver page, 2024-03 shut down after receiving a letter from McGraw Hill's law firm |
| McGraw Hill's own AI Reader | 2024 autumn | Official figure: 45M uses | Explains only, doesn't answer for you |

The table shows where SolveX sits: it didn't pioneer this, it came later. It found two gaps. First, after SmarterBook was knocked out by a legal letter, the "install it and SmartBook runs itself" slot in the extension store was empty. Second, most remaining rivals are "screenshot for the answer, then click it yourself", and a 100-concept assignment still takes hundreds of clicks. SolveX sells not having to click. That's also why it can charge $44.99 while SnapGPT only dares charge $9.99.

### Why this one took off

- **The demand is rigid and follows a calendar** . SmartBook is a required assignment in many courses. It arrives with the semester, and deadlines come one after another. The growth inflection point came at the end of August.

- **Early, narrow search positioning** . Focusing on a single platform means every page can match students' search wording exactly, so a small team can rank first.

- **The product goes one step further than rivals** . Going from "tells you the answer" to "clicks through for you" makes for two different products when an assignment takes two or three hours.

- **Pricing catches the panic moment** . 60 minutes free, no card required, and a $2.99 day pass are all designed for the night before a deadline.

- **Fast iteration** . 5 months, 26 releases. Every time McGraw changed a page, it followed. These extensions work by reading page structure, and if they fall behind they simply stop working.

### If it were you

**C. A useful playbook to learn, but not a good business to follow.** More than a dozen players already crowd this category, and SolveX is itself a late entrant. Worse, it stands against the platform: McGraw Hill's new terms from Oct 16 explicitly ban browser extensions that answer for you, and the previous leading SmartBook tool was shut down by a legal letter. Students also risk academic-integrity penalties. If the platform wants to block it, one page redesign or one letter is enough.

**Who it suits** : people who want to learn the playbook of "one platform × deep in-page integration × long-tail search pages". What's worth copying is the method, not the answering itself.

**Who it doesn't suit** : anyone planning yet another answering extension for McGraw, ALEKS, Pearson or Cengage. These platforms are tightening their terms, the leading rivals have already claimed the search terms, and whether your product still works depends on when the other side changes its pages or sends a letter.

**How to do it** : find an online system that users are forced to use every day and that is genuinely painful (tax filing, expense reporting, recruiting back-ends, e-commerce seller dashboards, an old industry SaaS), and build for that one platform only. Go all the way to completing the repetitive actions for the user inside the page, rather than opening a separate window with suggestions. Before choosing, read the platform's terms, and prefer platforms that allow or even welcome third-party extensions.

**How to get users** : follow SolveX's sitemap. One platform page, a dozen-plus pages split by niche scenario, and a dozen or so Q&A articles whose titles are users' own words ("What to do when X won't load", "How to finish X faster"). Put the product name and domain straight into the search terms. Give free trials by time with no card required; if demand is sudden, add a pay-by-the-day tier.

**How early you need to be** : search positioning windows run by quarter. Move before the niche terms you've picked are filled by three or four rivals. If demand follows a calendar (school start, tax season, year-end closing), get the pages live one to two months before peak so search engines have time to index them.

**What would show you got it wrong** : ① by the 2027 spring semester SolveX is still around and has thousands of users, with no letter from McGraw. That would mean the platform's terms are just words, the category is tougher than it looks, and answering extensions can work. ② In spring, when school starts again, its curve doesn't climb another round. That would mean part of the autumn growth was luck and the search positioning is less stable than it seemed. ③ McGraw Hill's own AI tool starts doing homework for students directly, or opens an official API to third parties. The whole landscape would change, so watch who gets access first.

## SolveX (Chrome extension, edoafjafiikeelfmidanbkcjgidfgegk): why it works

### One line

SolveX is an AI auto-answer Chrome extension that only does McGraw-Hill Connect / SmartBook 2.0. It reads questions directly on the assignment page, selects answers and fills them in, and can Auto-Solve one question after another. Accounts and pricing live on solvex.help: 60 minutes free, Starter $14.99, Pro $29.99 and Beast $44.99 per month, plus a $2.99 day pass and a $14.99 Beast weekly pass. Its absolute size is small, under 600 users. Growth came mainly from three things:

- The start of the fall semester, when assignment demand is rigid;

- A set of long-tail SEO pages on the official site titled "McGraw Hill Connect AI solver" that took the top spots on Google and Brave;

- Most similar products only "screenshot for the answer, then you fill it in". It sells "fills it in for you, auto-advances the page".

### 1. Data

- Store status: 570 users, rated 5.0 stars from only 2 ratings, 2026-06-19 listed (chromestore library, snapshot 2026-11-01). The store page shows v2.5.9,2026-10-29 (store page, read 2026-11-06). extensionauditor has logged 26 versions.

- Growth curve (extops readings over 90 days, recall-card records): 8/31 had 59 users, 10/8 had 322, 11/6 had 597; over the last 30 days +332; late October added roughly +10~20 a day. The review count has been stuck at 2, which suggests no review prompts.

- Timeline: when it launched in June it had very few users. Growth started at the end of August, right when the US fall semester began. McGraw Hill Connect/SmartBook is a mandatory assignment system at many US colleges, and on Reddit r/CollegeRant people regularly complain about assignments with "70+ concepts" or "107 concepts" (Reddit search results).

- Revenue: not public. solvex.help can't be found on TrustMRR (both the indie library xref and trustmrr.com/startup/solvex return 404).

- Developer: only solvex.help@gmail.com listed; not a trader; no company entity (store page).

### 2. Competitors

This space is crowded. It's a mature "LMS homework answer" category:

| Product | Form | Launched | Scale | How it differs from SolveX |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apex Vision AI | Chrome + iOS/Android | 2023-08 | 8,000 users / 2,101 rating (chromestore) | General screenshot reader; you fill in answers yourself; $7.99–19.99/mo by usage |
| SnapGPT | Chrome/Firefox | 2025-02 | 3,000 users | Screenshot answering; Autopilot can flip pages, but "never submits"; $9.99/mo |
| FastSolve | Chrome | 2026-02 | 5,000 users / 27 reviews | Screenshots, you fill answers yourself; official site says native Connect support is still on the roadmap |
| Canvas Quiz Solver(canvasquiz.com) | Chrome | 2024-03 | 2,000 users / 87 reviews | Focused on Canvas, with McGraw as one platform; shows answers on the page |
| auto-mcgraw(GooglyBlox) | Open source, not on the store | 2025-02 | 88 stars, v3.0 released 2026-09-30 | Free, but you need your own ChatGPT/Gemini/DeepSeek account; SmartBook only |
| SmarterBook / SolveMyBook | Chrome | 2023-09 | 8,000 users | Abandoned. According to the canvasquiz page, 2024-03 shut down after receiving a letter from a McGraw Hill law firm |
| Silent Student | Mac/Windows desktop app | 2026 | Not disclosed | Built-in browser; opens assignments from Canvas, completes and submits them; $11.99–49.99/mo, no free tier |
| SolvelyAI, QuizGPT, QuestionAI, etc. | Chrome | 2023–2025 | 10K to 100K users | General homework helpers, not focused on McGraw |
| McGraw Hill's own AI Reader / Learning Coach | Big-company features | Starting 2024 fall | Official site says AI Reader has been used 45M times | Explains only, doesn't answer for you |

### 3. Growth tactics (evidence)

1. **SEO content matrix (main channel, confirmed)** : solvex.help's sitemap has 43 URLs, covering three types of pages:
    - Platform pages: connect-solver, smartbook-solver;
    - 15 subject pages: accounting, biology, chemistry…;
    - 12 long-tail articles: detect-cheating, finish-smartbook-faster, see-correct-answers-connect, mcgraw-hill-connect-not-working, etc. Result: on Brave, searching "mcgraw hill connect ai solver" puts solvex.help at #1 and #2; "mcgraw hill smartbook answers ai" ranks #4; "smartbook solver extension" ranks #6 and #10 (Brave Search API, 2026-11-06). This is the strongest evidence of where users come from.

2. **Self-run TikTok account (confirmed, but tiny reach)** : @solvexhelp has 13 videos, 11 followers, 688 likes in total. October's 8 videos total about 5,000 views, 370–1,165 each, with a 10% discount code FALL2026 (TikHub). Limited contribution, but the discount code shows it's trying to use content to drive paid conversions.

3. **Listed on a competitor's comparison page (confirmed)** : Silent Student's "Best AI for McGraw Hill Connect" lists both SolveX Helper and SolveX Agent. That means a rival's SEO page is sending it traffic incidentally, and it's already on rivals' radar.

4. **X, Reddit, media** : x-radar shows no solvex content in the last ~90 days; no media coverage found. The Reddit page was blocked, so I couldn't verify any posts (unverified).

5. **Paid ads** : no evidence found (unverified; the ad library doesn't track it).

### 4. Why it took off

- **Timing** : the fall semester start lines up with the growth inflection. 8/31 has 59 people, and growth has been climbing daily since, matching US school start dates.

- **Category gap** : after McGraw's lawyers shut down the veteran SmartBook-focused extensions (SmarterBook / SolveMyBook), there was a gap for store products that automatically complete SmartBook once installed. What's left is mostly general screenshot tools, and the open-source auto-mcgraw requires you to set up the environment yourself.

- **SEO positioning** : the product name, domain, and page titles all directly say "McGraw Hill Connect AI Solver," matching search intent exactly, and it ranks high.

- **The product itself** : native DOM-level integration, meaning it reads questions, clicks options, and fills in answers directly on the assignment page; Auto-Solve flips through questions one after another. It also has retries on failure, a second model to double-check low-confidence answers, and three speed modes: Relaxed/Balanced/Fast. It sells "saving time," not "giving answers."

- **Pricing** : low barrier to the free trial (60 minutes, 100 questions, no card required), and the $2.99 day pass catches the last-minute "due tomorrow" need.

- **Fast iteration** : 5 months, 26 versions, and it keeps up quickly when assignment pages change (extensionauditor, store version numbers).

### 5. Differentiation

Most rivals are "screenshot, then get the answer," and users still have to click through themselves. SolveX covers the question types: multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, drag-and-drop, matching, ordering, and image questions, and can auto-submit and auto-advance. The high-priced tiers are split by question-type capability, e.g. matching and image questions are only in Beast. This is indeed why it can charge a premium: Beast is $44.99/mo, while SnapGPT is only $9.99. As for whether this is what got it traction, it's more likely the SEO positioning plus the back-to-school season doing the work; differentiation mainly determines conversion and average order value. It's already expanding outward:

- It launched a standalone extension, SolveX Agent (beta, v0.3.2,4 users), which does whole-assignment completion and covers other platforms;

- Snap Solver supports ALEKS, Canvas, Blackboard, and Google Forms.

This suggests it will expand by "one platform at a time" using this template.

### 6. Visibility and copycats

- **Visibility** : only spreading in small circles. Under 600 users, no public revenue, no discussion on X or in the media; it only appears on rivals' own comparison SEO pages. But the category as a whole isn't obscure. Canvas Quiz Solver, Apex Vision, SnapGPT, FastSolve, Silent Student, QuizeGPT, and aheadinclass are all competing for the same search terms, and the #mcgrawhill hashtag on TikTok has plenty of product-promo accounts (usevisnly, smarterbook, etc.).

- **Copycats** : no one has directly copied SolveX's product. It is itself a late arrival to this template.

### 7. Takeaways

- The template "single LMS platform × native in-page automation × long-tail SEO" can be replicated for ALEKS, Pearson MyLab, Cengage, and WebAssign.

- Tiered pricing by question-type capability, plus a day pass to capture last-minute demand before deadlines.

- A subject-page plus question-page SEO matrix: low cost, fast results.

### 8. Risks and uncertainties

- McGraw Hill 2026-10-16 updated its Terms of Service, explicitly banning "AI agents and browser extensions" from completing assignments (silentstudent quoting mheducation's Terms of Use). The precedent is SmarterBook shutting down after receiving a legal letter. There's also academic integrity risk.

- Paid conversion rate and revenue are unknown.

- Growth may be strongly seasonal; it could fall off around end of term and final exams.

- Whether it runs paid ads, and whether it has Reddit or Discord channels, is unverified.

- User count is still small. extops's readings and our library (11-01 is 570) are largely consistent, but the sample window is very short.
