Add a "price change history" to Latvia's biggest classifieds site: one Reddit post, 313 users
What it is A free Chrome extension that shows a listing's price history on car and property posts at ss.lv, Latvia's classifieds site. Behind it is adsnap.lv, a small classifieds site trying to take business from ss.lv.
Why it took off ss.lv only shows the current price, and car and home buyers have long wanted the price change history. It is the only one embedded on the listing page, covers cars, and is still being updated. The author posted on r/latvia and got 275 upvotes. Over two weeks users went from 2 to 177, and after that he built features based on comments and went back to post again.
CHow you could approach it Don't build on ss.lv again. Pick a different country and a monopoly category site that only shows current prices and has no maintained competitor. Scrape two or three months of data first, then launch an embeddable widget and post in local forums, and move the full price history and alerts to your own site to earn signups.

AdSnap is a free Chrome extension that only works on ss.lv. Open a listing for a used car or a flat and a small strip appears above the photos: how many times the price changed, how far it dropped in total, and when it last changed. It's built by a small classifieds site trying to take business from ss.lv, and the extension is its hook for traffic. It launched in Sep 19, a single r/latvia post brought in more than half its users, and by Nov 6 it had 313 users in total. The numbers are small, but the playbook is complete: collect data first, embed the extension, post on local forums, and iterate on the comments. Worth a read.
"I think the top comment is wrong"
In Oct 14 2026, Viktors Telle, a developer in Riga, wrote this on LinkedIn:
I've been logging car prices on ss.lv since late May. ss.lv only shows you today's price. I wanted to know whether a car had been listed for months or whether the seller had just dropped the price last week, and there was no way to tell. So I built a Chrome extension that shows the price history right on the listing. Three weeks ago I posted it on r/latvia. It got 275 upvotes and 42 comments, and I read every one.
A top comment said he had it wrong: sellers on ss.lv delete and repost their listing when they change the price, so his history misses most of the changes. He didn't believe it, went back through his data, and found that most price changes did happen on the same listing, but 5% to 18% were exactly what the commenter described. That became his next feature. Then came property, the second most requested thing in the comments, and then a feature for sellers, which he had promised in a reply on day one.
"242 people are using it now. I know, the number isn't big."
What it is
ss.lv is Latvia's classifieds site, and nearly all used-car buying and renting or buying property happens there. It has one gap everyone knows about: it shows only the current price, not the history. What buyers want to know is exactly how long a car has been listed and whether the price has come down. A car that has been up for weeks and keeps getting refreshed usually means a seller who will negotiate.
The AdSnap extension does exactly this (adsnap.lv extension page, 11-06):
- A small strip above the listing: how much the price has changed since tracking started, how many times it changed, and when it last changed. If it hasn't changed, it says "tracked since [date], no changes". Rentals show as "−50 €/month".
- A "full price history" button: takes you to adsnap.lv, where you can see every price and date, how many days it has been listed, how many times it was refreshed, the typical price for the same model, year and fuel type, and how far this car sits above or below it.
- Price-drop alerts: set a price you'd pay and get an email when it drops to that level. If the seller deletes and reposts, the alert follows the new listing. An AdSnap account is required. Free accounts can watch 1 listings for 60 days, and the watch can be renewed.
- For sellers: when you list on ss.lv, a box under the price shows the typical price for similar cars and the price range that half of them fall in. A "post to adsnap.lv too" button copies the model, price, text, city and photos across.
It also states plainly that the extension only records a listing when it appears in the ss.lv feed or gets refreshed, so a price change between two refreshes won't show until the next one, and "no changes" means "we saw no changes".
The extension is free and sells nothing. It has a rating of 5.0 on the Chrome Web Store from 5 reviews, and it is available in Latvian, Russian and English.
How users came in
One Reddit post drove most of the growth. Third-party extension stats show it had only 2 users in Sep 20, and 177 by Oct 4. The r/latvia post with 275 upvotes falls right in between. Latvia has about 1.9M people, and in a community that small, 275 upvotes is top-of-feed exposure.
Then it went back to Reddit for every feature. In Oct 6, the same account posted on r/latvia again: "Two weeks ago I posted an extension here that shows the ss.lv car price history. You asked for property price history in the comments, and for prices that stay visible after a relist. Both are now added." Bytes Europe, a European tech aggregator, picked up the post. Seller features (10-12) and price-drop alerts (around 10-28) followed the same pattern: use the community's comments as a roadmap, ship, then post back.
Driving traffic to its own site. adsnap.lv has a banner across the top of every page promoting the extension. It also has a web page where you paste a listing link to see its price history, with no install, no sign-up, and it works on mobile. For the search "ss.lv cenu vēsture" (ss.lv price history), that page already ranks on the first page.
Blog posts built on platform data. "Which cars in Latvia depreciate fastest" (based on about 110k ss.lv listings), "why ss.lv deletes your listing", "where to sell your car after ss.lv closed new user sign-ups", "how much a Latvian classifieds site earned in 2025 years". Each one captures traffic from people frustrated with ss.lv.
Everything else is small. The founder's two LinkedIn posts, the later one with 12 likes. The TikTok account @adsnap.lv has 174 followers. There have been a few extension promotion posts on Facebook. No paid ads, influencer deals or press coverage found.
Growth has slowed since then: Chrome Web Store users are at 11-01 295,11-04 306,11-06 313, about ten a week.
Why this one, not the ones already out there
"ss.lv price history" isn't a new need. At least three sites and three extensions have tried it locally:
| Competitors | Form | Scale | How it differs from AdSnap |
|---|---|---|---|
| CenuMednieks.lv | Website | Claims 390k+ ss.lv listings and 1.5M+ price records, with history going back 2019 years | Deeper data, but you have to leave ss.lv and paste links; the free version only shows the last history entry, and the full history requires PRO |
| Tirgusdati.lv | Website | 58k live listings, 78k price changes | Includes real property sale prices, also requires pasting links |
| adify.lv | Website | 103k listings, aggregating ss, city24 and pp.lv | Multi-site aggregation plus sorting by price drops, not embedded in ss.lv |
| Brokalys | Chrome extension, open source | 185 users, rated 5.0 (2 reviews) | Real estate only, not updated since 2022 July |
| Cenu Vēsture | Chrome Extension | 22 users | Real estate only, 2026-08-31 removed from the store |
| BSS - Better SS | Chrome Extension | 139 users | Dark mode, infinite scroll, filters, no price history |
It doesn't win on data depth. It wins because it has three things at once: it's embedded right in ss.lv listing pages, it covers cars, and it's still being updated. The website makes you copy a link and go somewhere else, and the older extensions either only cover real estate or have stopped updating. The Reddit post's pitch was "see it right on the listing."
Two more reasons: it started collecting data in May, so when the extension launched in September each listing already had about 4 months of history, and there was something to look at the first time you installed it. And ss.lv had just closed new user sign-ups and was deleting listings often. Plenty of complaints about it on r/latvia, so a tool built against ss.lv had people rooting for it from the start.
Where the money is
Nothing in the extension. The money (if any) is at adsnap.lv: a free, trilingual classifieds site trying to challenge ss.lv. The extension gives buyers price history and asks them to sign up for alerts. It gives sellers a typical-price reference and then, with one click, moves their listing over to adsnap.lv. Basically, it borrows ss.lv's traffic to pull sellers and sign-ups to its own classifieds site. The "move supply over" step is something none of the competing pure-data tools do.
"Free to watch 1 listings for 60 days" looks like groundwork for charging by listing count later. Neither the website nor the store has a pricing page yet (inferred, not verified). How many listings adsnap.lv has, and how many cross-posts the extension has sent over, can't be seen from outside.
Risks
The barrier is low. The data comes from scraping public listing feeds, and at least three or four local players are already scraping. The extension shell can be written in a few days. The bigger variable is ss.lv: the extension injects content into its pages and moves sellers toward a competitor, so ss.lv could block it or change its layout on a whim. AdSnap states on its about page that it is "not affiliated with ss.lv or SIA "SS"."
If it were you
Bottom line: what you can learn is the playbook, not this product. Building another one on ss.lv makes no sense. Copying the approach for a dominant classifieds site in another country is doable, but a single small country caps out at maybe a few hundred to a few thousand users, and the extension itself doesn't make money. It's only worth the effort if you have a site behind it that needs supply, or plan to sell paid alerts.
Who it suits: people already working in used cars, real estate or content in a given country who want a cheap acquisition hook, and developers who can write scrapers and extensions and can wait a few months quietly collecting data before anything shows.
Who it doesn't suit: anyone counting on the extension itself for subscription revenue, anyone who doesn't speak the local language or can't get into local forums, and anyone worried about platform bans or legal letters.
How to do it: first pick a site: a classifieds site with overwhelming dominance in its country that only shows current prices (cars and real estate work best). Search the Chrome store for a price-history extension that's still being updated. If one exists, move on to the next site. Candidates include OLX (Poland, Romania, Portugal), Otomoto, Autoplius, Auto24, Sahibinden, Leboncoin and Kijiji. Many countries already have a website version, but one that is embedded in the page, covers cars, and is actively maintained is rare. Scrape for two or three months and build up history before launching. The extension should only cover "how many times it changed, how much it dropped, how long it's been up"; full history and alerts go on your own site behind a sign-up. Detecting deleted-and-reposted listings has to be handled eventually. AdSnap's data shows 5% to 18% of price changes happen this way.
How to get users: copy it. Post a first-person "I built this" on the local subreddit or the biggest car and property forum. Reply to every comment, ship the two or three most-requested features within two weeks, then come back with an update post. Meanwhile, use the data you've collected to write things like "which car models depreciate fastest" for search and social content.
When to move: no specific date. But once the site you picked builds price history itself, or a local rival's extension starts getting updates, the gap closes.
Signs you've misread it: ① less than two weeks after posting, only 100 users, which means locals don't care much about price history or you're in the wrong communities; ② users grow, but nobody signs up for alerts and nobody clicks "send to your site," which means the extension can't act as an acquisition channel and is just a handy free tool; ③ the platform redesigns, adds anti-scraping measures, or sends a legal letter, and the extension drops to zero overnight.

AdSnap - ss.lv cenu vēsture (Chrome extension): why it took off
Data card: chrome_iggifbhaehhbdkmjjolgghalnjpfdcnm · research date 2026-11-06
One line
Latvian developer Viktors Telle (SIA "Lumina Ecommerce", who runs the classifieds site adsnap.lv) built a Keepa-style price history extension for ss.lv, the country's dominant classifieds site. On ss.lv car and real estate listing pages, it shows right above the photos how many times the price changed, the total drop, and how long ago the last change was. It's not a standalone business. It's a traffic hook for adsnap.lv, a small classifieds site trying to challenge ss.lv. "Took off" really just means about 170 users from one r/latvia post, which grew to 313 through slow iteration. The absolute numbers are small.

- Rating 5.0 from 5 reviews; version 1.3.0,2026-10-27 updated; 40KiB; trilingual in Latvian, Russian and English; the developer registered as an EU trader in the store, with an address in Riga (Chrome Web Store listing page).
- Curve shape: it went from 2 to 177 in the first two weeks after launch (about 57% of the current total). After that it added only a dozen to a few dozen a week. Typical pattern: one burst of community exposure pushes the numbers up, then reviews and updates grind them higher slowly.
- Pricing: the extension is free. The only gate is "track price drops on 1 listings for free for 60 days" (store description), which hints at possible charging by tracked-listing count later. Neither the website nor the store has a pricing page yet.
2. Competitors
The ss.lv price-history slot was already crowded with several players, but they were all "website + paste a link" or abandoned older extensions:
| Competitors | Form | Launched | Scale | How it differs from AdSnap |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brokalys: ss.lv historical prices | Chrome extension (open source, MatissJanis) | 2021 (GitHub repo created 2021-04) | 185 users, 5.0 (2 reviews); no update for 2022-07 | Real estate only, stopped updating 4 years ago. AdSnap covers cars and real estate and keeps iterating. |
| BSS - Better SS.com & SS.lv | Chrome/Firefox extension (Kristofers Ozoliņš) | Earlier, last updated 2024-07 | 139 users, 5.0 (6 reviews) | Only UX enhancements (dark mode, infinite scroll, filters), no price history |
| Cenu Vēsture(dmitrijs.balcers) | Chrome extension | 2022-01 | 22 users, 2026-08-31 removed from the store (chrome-stats) | Real estate only, MV2, dead |
| SS.LV Komentāri | Chrome extension | 2025 (posted on r/latvia) | 0 rating (the store's "related" section) | Add comments to ss.lv posts, a different direction |
| CenuMednieks.lv | Website | Claims history going back 2019 years | 390k+ ss.lv listings, 1.5M+ price records | The free version only shows the last history entry; PRO unlocks the full history, plus a price-drop chart and email alerts. Deeper data, but you have to leave ss.lv and paste links. |
| Tirgusdati.lv | Website | Not verified | 58k live listings and 78k price changes, scanned hourly | Covers ss.com + city24.lv, plus VZD real transaction prices. Still paste-the-link. |
| adify.lv | Site aggregator | Not verified | 103k listings (ss.com, city24, pp.lv) | Aggregation + price history + price-drop sorting, not embedded in ss.lv |
| BalticRadar | Website | 2026-10 has a blog | 83k listings (ss.lv + Lithuania and Estonia stations) | Cross-border car price comparison, very much like AdSnap's “data-driven blog” playbook |
| AuctionMate | Chrome extension | 2025-08 | 941 users, 4.4 (32 reviews) | Shows a 60-day price curve on AutoScout24, Gumtree and other sites. Same hook, built for other countries. |
| Big-company feature: Chrome Shopping Insights | Built into Chrome | Already there | — | Only covers standard products, not classified posts like used cars or real estate |
| ss.lv itself | Platform | — | A monopoly site: 2025 revenue about €8M a year, 11 staff (AdSnap's blog cites the annual report) | Shows only the current price, no history. That's the gap. |
Bottom line: “ss.lv price history” is not a new need. At least 3 local sites and 3 extensions have tried it. AdSnap is the only one still actively maintained in 2026 that embeds directly in the ss.lv car listing page.
3. Growth tactics (where users come from)
- Posted on r/latvia (main channel, confirmed): The developer wrote on LinkedIn (2026-10-14): “Three weeks ago I posted it on r/latvia. It got 275 upvotes and 42 comments.” The timing is around Sep 22, which lines up with the extops curve going from 9/20 to 10/4, 2→177. In Oct 6 they posted an update on r/latvia saying the extension now supports real estate (reposted by Bytes Europe; a Jina search turned up the r/latvia post 1wz5zg1). The account u/AdSnapOfficial has been active on r/latvia for a long time. Back in 2026-08 someone already posted discussing “adsnap.lv is an aggregator for ss.lv.”
- Iterating in public and turning comments into features: A pinned comment said “sellers delete and repost listings when they change prices, so your history will miss it.” The developer checked the data, found that 5–18% of price changes really worked that way, and built cross-listing matching for the same car or flat. Real estate was the second most requested feature in the comments, shipped in 10/6. The seller feature was promised in a reply on day one and shipped in 10/12. Each time a feature shipped, they went back to r/latvia and posted again, which earned a second wave of exposure.
- LinkedIn founder story (confirmed, small reach): 10/14 and 10/28 each posted once. 10/28's post got 12 likes and 3 comments. Impact was small.
- Internal traffic from their own site (confirmed): A banner across the top of adsnap.lv reads “Jaunums: Chrome paplašinājums rāda cenu vēsturi…” (New: the Chrome extension shows price history…). The site also has a standalone /price-history page that works on mobile and needs no account.
- SEO and data content (confirmed, effect not verified): The blog has posts like “which cars depreciate fastest/slowest in Latvia” (based on about 110k ss.lv listings), “why ss.lv deletes listings,” “where to sell a car after ss.lv closed new user sign-ups,” and “how much Latvian classifieds made in 2025 years.” They're aimed squarely at ss.lv's frustrated users. Searching “ss.lv cenu vēsture” on Jina, adsnap's price-history page already ranks on page one.
- Social media presence (confirmed, small reach): TikTok @adsnap.lv has 174 followers and 472 likes. There are also Facebook, Instagram, X and Reddit accounts.
- No paid ads, influencer promotion or press coverage found. Searching “ss.lv” in the X corpus (x-radar, last 60 days) returns 0 posts.
4. Why it took off
- Real pain point, the rival is a monopoly platform: ss.lv only shows the current price. Buyers of used cars and flats want to know how long a listing has been up and whether the price has dropped. On top of that, ss.lv closed new sign-ups and deletes listings often, so local resentment is high (several threads on r/latvia). Latvian-speaking communities naturally cheer for a tool that's “against ss.lv.”
- The format won: Competitors all make you leave ss.lv, copy a link and paste it into another site. AdSnap puts the answer right above the listing photos with zero steps. The rival extensions either only cover real estate, or have stopped updating, or have been taken down.
- The data was collected early: They started scraping ss.lv cars and property in late May 2026. When the extension launched in September, every listing already had about 4 months of history, so there was content from the first look.
- One Reddit hit took most of a small market: Latvia has about 1.9M people. An r/latvia post with 275 upvotes is top-tier exposure there and directly brought in about 170 installs.
- Fast iteration captured a second wave: Over the month from 1.1 to 1.3 they shipped real estate, duplicate-listing matching, seller pricing references and price-drop email alerts, posting back to the community with each one.
5. Differentiation
- The core differences are “embedded in the ss.lv page” + “cars” + “actively maintained”. CenuMednieks and Tirgusdati have deeper data (history going back 2019 years, real transaction prices), but users still have to go to another site. Brokalys embeds in the page, but only does real estate and has stopped updating. AdSnap is the only one with all three. That difference really did drive its growth: the r/latvia pitch was “see it right on the listing.”
- A deeper difference is the business motive: The extension is just the lead funnel for the adsnap.lv classifieds site. When a seller lists a car on ss.lv, the extension shows typical prices for similar cars and offers a one-click “also post to adsnap.lv,” carrying over photos, text and price. Alerts require an AdSnap account. In other words, it borrows ss.lv's traffic to pull sellers and sign-ups to its own classifieds. Competitors are pure data tools with no way to move supply across.
- But the moat is thin: the data comes from scraping public feeds, there are local rivals like adify and cenumednieks, and building an extension shell takes only a few days.
6. Visibility and copycats
- Still little public awareness: No revenue is public (the extension is free). No press coverage or big X accounts. Just one r/latvia post with 275 upvotes, plus the developer's own LinkedIn post (12 likes).
- Copycats: No ss.lv extension copying it after September was found. Similar ideas already existed in other countries (AuctionMate does AutoScout24/Gumtree, and the Russian-speaking market has Avito-related tools). Locally, CenuMednieks and Tirgusdati appeared at about the same time or earlier, in website form.
7. Takeaways
- “Monopoly local classifieds + price-history extension” is a template you can copy: Quietly scrape data for a few months, build up enough history, then launch the extension so users see history from the first look. Post in the local subreddit or forums, pitching “what the platform won't tell you.” Then use community comments as the roadmap, iterating in public and posting repeatedly. It could be applied to OLX (Poland/Romania/Portugal), Otomoto, Autoplius, Auto24, Sahibinden, Avito, Leboncoin, Kijiji and similar sites. First check whether a maintained local extension already exists.
- Treat the tool as the acquisition funnel for a two-sided market: Give buyers price history, give sellers pricing references plus one-click transfer to your own site. This cold-starts supply by parasitically riding the monopoly platform.
- Use the platform's public data to write “which car depreciates fastest” style data blogs for SEO and social content.
8. Uncertain
- The original r/latvia post's exact date and link couldn't be opened directly (Reddit blocks scraping). The 275 upvotes / 42 comments come from the developer's own account.
- Unknown: the traffic and sign-ups of the adsnap.lv classifieds site itself, and how many cross-posts the extension drove.
- Unverified: whether multi-listing tracking will be charged for later (a “track 1 listings for 60 days free” design looks like groundwork for paid tiers).
- Unknown: whether using ss.lv data and injecting content into ss.lv pages carries legal or ban risk (the extension states it is unaffiliated with SIA “SS”), and whether the platform will push back.
