# A Turkish developer swapped his Instagram unfollow extension for TikTok and reached the top of the category in two months

**What it is** A Chrome extension that finds the people on the web version of TikTok who don't follow you back and unfollows them in bulk or all at once at a speed you set. Free users get 20 per day; unlimited requires a monthly subscription.

**Why it took off** The maker already had an Instagram unfollow extension with 20k users and simply ported it to a new platform. The titles and descriptions use the words users actually search for, 52 languages capture non-English searches, and the category leader has only 8,000 users and 3.4 stars, so it's easy to outrank.

**B** **How you could follow** Stop building TikTok unfollow tools and copy the method instead: pick a repetitive manual chore the platform won't handle, build in rate limits and a protected list, write titles in users' search language, localize into dozens of languages, then run the same codebase across five or six platforms.

Grade B: a clear playbook, low barrier, weak incumbents, and few people know about it. But a single category caps out at a few thousand users, it depends on platform goodwill, and people are already copying it. Few people know about it yet

1,000 users · rating 4.916666666666667 (48)

TikTok Unfollow AI is a Chrome extension: it scans the accounts you follow on TikTok, flags who isn't following you back, and unfollows them one by one at a speed you set. Listed in Aug 2026 22, and by Oct 21 the store showed 1,000 users and a rating of 4.9. The features aren't unique, and it isn't a new idea. The maker already had an Instagram version with 20k users, moved the same thing to TikTok, and put work into titles, languages, and search. The pool is small, but the playbook is easy to copy.

### Aug 22

Yasin Muratoğulları, an indie developer in Bursa, Turkey, published extensions to the Chrome Web Store from a single Gmail account. His site is addonschrome.com, and its homepage lists 20+ extensions. The first was Unfollow AI, listed in December 2024, which finds Instagram accounts that don't follow back and unfollows them in bulk. By November it had 20k users and 519 ratings (Chrome Web Store, November). In December 2025 he released an X version.

In Aug 2026 22 the TikTok version went live. Judging by the upload dates on the site's images, the graphics were made in Aug 18. Over the next two months he shipped two more: TokExport (exports TikTok followers and following lists) on Sep 21, and Backgap (Threads unfollow) on Oct 21. Same feature, new platform name, shipped again.

### What it is

The long description on the store page opens with the user's pain point: "After using TikTok for years, you've probably followed hundreds of accounts you no longer care about... Manual cleanup means opening your following list, tapping an account, tapping Following, confirming, scrolling, and repeating. It can take hours."

How it works: with a logged-in TikTok web page open, you click the extension, and it scans your following list, marking each account as one-way or mutual, verified or not, and showing its follower count. Then three buttons: unfollow all, unfollow only non-followers-back, or unfollow only the ones you've checked. You can add friends and favorite brands to a protected list that bulk actions won't touch, and export results to Excel or CSV.

The free version lets you unfollow 25 accounts on day one, adds 20 more each day, and unused quota carries over. Premium is unlimited and billed monthly (per the site's FAQ). Earlier there was a claim of $5.99/month, struck through from $25, but I couldn't find pricing on the public pages this time (unverified). One review says "works good, if you have premium of course" (10-25), and someone else said monthly payment isn't worth it. At 20 a day, clearing several hundred follows takes weeks, and the paywall is set in a very precise spot.

### How far it got

Not big. Chrome Web Store user counts: Sep 1 about 105, Oct 4 about 640, Oct 19 963, and from Oct 21 the store showed 1,000. Once a listing passes 1,000 users the store only shows approximate numbers, so "stuck at 1k" doesn't mean growth stopped. In the last 30 days it gained about 360 users.

Ratings grew more clearly: Oct 8 26 reviews, Oct 25 44 reviews, Nov 7 52 reviews, rated 4.9 stars. No public revenue, no media coverage, and almost no one on X seems to mention it.

### Where users come from

**Store search, with the title as the search term.** The full store title is "TikTok Unfollow AI - Mass & Auto Unfollow All, Everyone & Non-Followers". It packs in mass unfollow, auto unfollow, unfollow all, unfollow everyone, and non-followers, the phrasings users are likely to search. The long description has a section titled "ABOUT "WHO UNFOLLOWED ME ON TIKTOK"" that opens by saying this is the most searched question in the category, then answers plainly: TikTok doesn't tell anyone who unfollowed them, and any tool claiming to show that is guessing. Search "tiktok unfollow all chrome extension" on the web and its store page and official site rank at the top.

**52 languages.** The store page says 52 languages. Reviews include a Vietnamese name (lê bảo, 11-05), Spanish names, and Turkish users. Most competitors are English-only, so it has almost no rivals in non-English search.

**Official landing page and Medium.** addonschrome.com has a long dedicated FAQ page for it that answers questions like "Is there an app to mass unfollow on TikTok?" one by one, and even covers spelling variants like "tiktok or tik tok, however you spell it". There are also 3 blog posts on TikTok unfollowing and exporting. The founder published "How to Mass Unfollow on TikTok Without Getting Blocked (2026 Guide)" on Medium. Search "how to mass unfollow on tiktok 2026" and its official site ranks 4, between Reddit and wikiHow.

**Riding the leader's "related" slot.** The Chrome Web Store lists it among the related extensions for TikTok Auto Unfollow (8,000 users), so people looking at the established leader see it right alongside.

**Review count far above peers** (inferred: the extension likely prompts for ratings). Review count is about 5% of users. The established TikTok Auto Unfollow has 46 reviews for 8,000 users, 0.6%. His own Instagram version is at 2.6%. Most reviews are one or two words: "good", "amazing", "fine", "Really Good". One reviewer named Veer posted twice, and in the nine-plus days from Oct 16 to 25 there were 17 reviews. In search results, a 4.9 rating with dozens of reviews looks far more credible than an old leader at 3.4.

**Small owned social presence.** A YouTube demo video has 874 views, the TikTok account @addons.chrome has posted 75 videos and has 11 followers. None of this brings in 1,000 users. No signs of bought ads, creator outreach, or press coverage were found.

### Why this one

TikTok's own app lets you multi-select unfollows under Following → Manage, but you can't filter to only the people who don't follow back, and you can't select all. Anyone following hundreds of accounts has to tap them one by one. "Who doesn't follow me back" and "how to unfollow everyone at once" have been searched in many languages for years, there are dedicated hashtag pages on TikTok, and people keep asking on Reddit.

The category's leaders are weak. There are 26 Chrome extensions whose names include both TikTok and follow/unfollow. The largest, TikTok Auto Unfollow, has only 8,000 users and a 3.4 rating, and its description says the new version is limited to 15 accounts. The rest mostly have tens to hundreds of users. A polished, multilingual newcomer with a 4.9 rating can easily rank at the top.

He also made "safety" a selling point, which is the thing people buying these tools fear most. It doesn't ask for your TikTok password. The interval is adjustable from 3 seconds to 5 minutes, with a small random jitter on each gap. It automatically stops after TikTok rejects three requests. Before each batch it shows a popup with how many accounts will be affected and how long it will take.

### Who it's competing with

| Competitors | Launched | Scale (Chrome Web Store, November) | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|
| TikTok Auto Unfollow | 2024-08 | 8,000 users, rated 3.4 | Old leader, weak ratings, new version capped at 15 accounts |
| TikTok Follower Export Tool | 2024-09 | 10k users, 1,093 ratings | Mainly exports followers, not unfollowing |
| TikTok Remove Following & Favorites Tools 2026 / TIKFOL | 2026-01 / 2026-07 | 1,000 users, 357 ratings / 205 users | Two extensions from the same developer (petakpeta), also using the high-rating approach |
| TikTok Unfollow Tool – Following & Friends | 2026-01 | 1,000 users, 11 ratings | Similar features, English only |
| TikTok Mass Unfollow AI / FollowPilot | Not verified | Not verified | A Pakistani developer, v2.0.0 released 11-03. Selling points are the same: protected list, pause, export. Looks like it was modeled on this one |
| A cluster of small extensions on netlify / vercel | 2026 H1 | Dozens to hundreds | Flooded in around the same time, none took off |
| TikTok app's built-in management | — | All users | You can only tick accounts manually, not filter out the ones that don't follow back |

Features are roughly the same. It wins on packaging and distribution: keyword titles, 52 languages, a landing page and FAQ, and honest copy. All of this is easy to copy, and others already are.

### The biggest risks

Two things. First, the ceiling is low. The largest competitor has only 8,000 users, and this extension reaching 1,000 already puts it in the front tier. Revenue is likely in the range of a few hundred dollars a month (inferred, no public revenue data). Second, TikTok itself. These extensions click unfollow using the web session login. If TikTok tightens rate limits or changes its interface one day, the whole category could stop working overnight.

### If it were you

**The verdict:** Don't build another TikTok unfollow extension. What's worth learning is Yasin's approach: one feature, multiple platforms, dozens of languages, and titles that double as search terms. A single extension earns little, but spread across a dozen or two dozen, the volume adds up.

**Who it's for:** Indie developers who can ship a Chrome extension quickly alone and are willing to spend time on store copy and SEO. They should accept that each product is a small business with hundreds to tens of thousands of users, stacked together for scale.

**Who it's not for:** Anyone aiming to build one big product, anyone unwilling to work in the gray zone of automating actions on other people's platforms, and anyone who can't stand having their traffic wiped out when the platform changes an endpoint.

**How to do it:** Look for a need where users have a repetitive manual chore on a platform that the platform itself won't provide: bulk unfollowing, bulk deleting posts, exporting followers, clearing bookmarks, removing reposts. Pick a platform and action that already has someone serving it, but whose top extension has low ratings and is English-only. Build with full features, safe rate limits, and a protected list. After launch, reuse the same code for Instagram, X, Threads, Bluesky, and Pinterest. Offer a free daily quota that accumulates, and sell a monthly subscription.

**How to get users:** Put the three to five phrasings users search for into the title. In the description, directly answer the most-searched question in the category, even if the answer is "it can't be done". Launch in dozens of languages on day one. Give each extension a long FAQ page on the official site, plus two or three tutorials on "how to mass do X without getting banned". Inside the extension, ask for a rating once the user has finished their first run and seen results.

**When it's too early:** There's no deadline. But once the target platform builds "show only non-followers" and bulk actions itself, or starts banning these extensions, drop the play and move on to the next one.

**Signs you've misjudged it:** (1) Two months after launch, you still can't reach the top three in store search for your target keywords, which means the category's leaders are stronger than they appeared. (2) Free-to-paid conversion stays under 1%, meaning these users won't pay a monthly fee for a one-time cleanup; switch to a one-time purchase. (3) When you reach the fifth platform, new extensions are clearly gaining traction more slowly, meaning the good platforms are already taken.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| TikTok Auto Unfollow | Chrome | 2024-08 | 8,000 users, 46 ratings, 3.4 rating | Old leader with weak ratings and a 15-account cap. This one is better on multilingual support, copy, safety messaging, and ratings, and it's listed in the leader's related section |

## Why TikTok Unfollow AI (Chrome extension) took off

- Store page: [chromewebstore.google.com/detail/tiktok-unfollow-ai-mass-a/l…](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/tiktok-unfollow-ai-mass-a/lmhngakknmcjifdgjkiddkhlbdgodggk)

- Developer: yasininprofili (Gmail account), official site addonschrome.com. Behind it is Yasin Muratoğulları, an indie developer in Bursa, Turkey (studio Yass Medya; the refund terms name the entity "Yassmedya")

- Launched 2026-08-22, v1.0.1 updated 2026-10-12; research date 2026-11-06

### Bottom line

This product didn't take off on a new idea. A Turkish developer with about 30 extensions took a proven Instagram unfollow / non-follower-finder template (his Unfollow AI, 20k users) and moved it to TikTok. He used a title stuffed with search terms, 52 languages, a long SEO description, and an official landing page to capture store search and Google search. Add a likely rating prompt inside the extension, and his review count ran well ahead of peers. That placed it near the top of a group of small, old competitors. The overall pool is tiny (about 1,000 users), so "taking off" just means reaching the front tier of a small category.

### Data

| Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Users | 9/1 about 105 → 10/4 about 640 → 10/8 725 → 10/19 963 → 10/21 shows 1k from | Recall card (extops 90-day curve); extops.dev single page 2026-11-06 |
| past 30 days | +360 | extops.dev |
| Score | 10/8 26 reviews → 10/25 44 reviews → 11/1 48 reviews → 11/7 52 reviews, rating 4.92 | extops.dev; chromestore library item_snap |
| Review count / user count | About 5.2% (52/1000) | calculated |
| Category comparison | TikTok Auto Unfollow: 46/8000 = 0.6%; this developer's Instagram version, Unfollow AI: 519/20000 = 2.6% | chromestore library |

Note: Chrome Web Store shows user counts as rounded approximations (two significant digits) past 1,000. The "stuck at 1k" after 10/21 is the store's display, not a sign growth stopped. Ratings are still climbing 4–10 a week, so new users are still coming in.

### Competitors

Searching the chromestore library for names containing both TikTok and follow/unfollow turns up 26 (checked 2026-11-07):

| Product | Position | Launched | Scale | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TikTok Auto Unfollow(edlbaij…) | Chrome | 2024-08 | 8,000 users, 46 ratings, 3.4 rating | Old market leader, but with weak ratings; the description says "new version limited to 15 users," so both experience and trust are weak. This product is listed in the store's "related extensions" for it (#7). |
| TikTok Follower Export Tool(kcoglbp…) | Chrome | 2024-09 | 10k users, 1,093 ratings, offers in-app purchases | Mainly exports follower lists rather than unfollowing; the same developer has TokExport as a comparable. |
| TikTok Remove Following & Favorites Tools 2026 / TIKFOL(petakpeta) | Chrome | 2026-01 / 2026-07 | 1,000 users, 357 ratings / 205 users | A small portfolio playing the same "many extensions + high ratings" game |
| TikTok Unfollow Tool – Following & Friends | Chrome | 2026-01 | 1,000 users, 11 ratings | Similar features, weaker copy and localization |
| TikTok Unfollower Pro / Unfollow All on TikTok / Tiktok Unfollower Pro 2026 | Chrome | 2025 | 600–1,000 users each | Same-category tools, ratings 3.7–4.3 |
| A cluster of small extensions on netlify / vercel / github.io (TikTok Mass Unfollow, SwiftPurge, AutoKit, etc.) | Chrome | 2026 H1 | Dozens to hundreds of users | Flooded in around the same time, never took off |
| TikTok Mass Unfollow AI / FollowPilot (echpgnh…, developer Zakirullah from Pakistan) | Chrome | Unverified (v2.0.0 updated 2026-11-03) | Not verified | Name includes "Mass Unfollow AI", with the same selling points: "Protected list," "pause," "export." Looks like it's copying this one. |
| TikTok's built-in Following → Manage | Big-company features | Already there | All app users | The in-app multi-select can unfollow in bulk (per wikiHow), but there's no "only show non-followers" filter and no select-all, so large lists still mean tapping one by one. |
| Redact.dev | Desktop software | Already there | Not verified | Generic social cleanup tool; requires a desktop client install |
| GitHub open-source scripts (sanjok1988, frxangelz, etc.) | Open source | 2020 years later | Very small | You have to set them up yourself; no UI |

Bottom line: there are competitors, and plenty of them, but they're all small, old, low-rated, or poorly written. The category has no strong leader, and the ceiling is low (the biggest TikTok unfollow extension has only 8,000 users).

### Growth tactics (where users come from)

1. **Store search + a keyword-stuffed title** (confirmed). The title "TikTok Unfollow AI - Mass & Auto Unfollow All, Everyone & Non-Followers" crams in mass unfollow / auto unfollow / unfollow all / unfollow everyone / non-followers. The long description has a whole section, "ABOUT 'WHO UNFOLLOWED ME ON TIKTOK' — This is the most searched question on the topic," openly targeting search traffic. When Jina searched "TikTok Unfollow AI chrome extension" and "tiktok unfollow all chrome extension," its store page and official site ranked in the top two.

2. **Localization into 52 languages** (confirmed). The store page lists 52 languages. Reviews include Vietnamese names (lê bảo, Hùng Phi), Turkish, Spanish and more, suggesting non-English search is also bringing in users. Most comparables are English-only.

3. **Official-site SEO landing pages + blog** (confirmed; how much traffic they bring can't be verified). addonschrome.com has a dedicated long-form FAQ landing page ("Is there an app to mass unfollow on TikTok?"), even covering spelling variants like "tiktok or tik tok, however you spell it", plus 3 blog posts on TikTok unfollowing/exporting and a Medium article. When searching "how to mass unfollow on tiktok 2026", its official site ranked #4, alongside Reddit and wikiHow.

4. **Asking for ratings / prompting for reviews** (likely, not fully confirmed). The rating count is about 5.2% of users, versus 0.6% for the old category leader and 2.6% for this developer's Instagram version. Most reviews are one or two words ("good," "amazing," "fine," "Really Good"), and one user, Veer, reviewed twice. Over nine days, ratings went from 27 to 44 (10/16–10/25). That's the typical pattern of a rating prompt inside an extension. The official site also collects these reviews under a "Wall of love."

5. **Cross-promotion across a portfolio + owned social** (confirmed as running, small effect). The homepage links 20 extensions to each other; a YouTube demo video has 874 views; posts have gone out on LinkedIn, Instagram Reels, Facebook and Threads; the TikTok account @addons.chrome has posted 75 videos with only 11 followers (TikHub). Social numbers this small can't bring in 1,000 users; it's not a main channel.

6. **Store "related extensions" placement** (confirmed). The store lists it under TikTok Auto Unfollow (8,000 users) and TikTok Unfollow Tool as related extensions (chromestore library, related table), effectively feeding off the leading competitors' traffic.

7. No evidence found of ads, creator promotion, press coverage, or big X accounts. x-radar shows 90 posts about "tiktok unfollow" in the last 0 days.

### Monetization

The free version lets you unfollow 25 accounts on day one, then adds 20 more each day, so the quota accumulates; Premium is unlimited (official site FAQ). The recall card lists the official price as $5.99/month (struck-through original $25), but I couldn't find a public pricing page on the official site (/pricing.html is 404, possibly shown only inside the extension), so the price is unverified. The refund terms mention a "Pro subscription," and reviews say "works good, if your have premium" and "monthly payment is unnecessary," so there is a monthly subscription and people do hit the paywall. At 20 per day, clearing a few hundred follows takes weeks, which pushes people toward paying. The paywall is tuned precisely.

### Why it took off

1. **Reusing a proven template** : the same developer's Instagram version, Unfollow AI (launched 2024-12), has 20k users and 519 ratings. There are also X, Threads, Followgap and Backly versions. The TikTok version moves the same UI, copy and playbook to a new platform rather than starting from scratch.

2. **The category leader is weak** : the biggest TikTok unfollow extension has only 8,000 users, a rating of 3.4, and its own description says "limited to 15 users." Most others have a few hundred. A new product with decent copy and a 4.9 rating can easily rank near the top in store search.

3. **Real need, long tail, cross-language** : TikTok's own Manage only lets you tick accounts one by one; it can't filter to just the non-followers. "Who doesn't follow me back / unfollow everyone at once" is a perennial search question in every language (TikTok has dedicated topic pages for it, and Reddit has people asking constantly).

4. **Ratings accumulate fast** : the rating-to-user ratio is about 8× the category norm. A 4.9 rating backed by dozens of reviews looks most credible in search results.

5. **Make "safe" and "honest" the selling points** : the description says outright "TikTok will not tell anyone who unfollowed you; anything claiming otherwise is guessing," "no TikTok password required," and "3 seconds to 5 minutes adjustable intervals, auto-stops after three rejections." People buying tools like this fear account bans and password theft, and these lines directly address those worries.

### Differentiation

Functionally there isn't much difference: protected lists, adjustable speed, CSV export, filtering to non-followers all exist in several competitors. What's actually different is **packaging and distribution** : 52 languages, a search-term-stuffed title, long SEO landing pages and FAQs, honest copy (no promise of showing who unfollowed you), a free quota that accrues daily, and an already-working cross-platform portfolio. The packaging is why it works; the product itself isn't the difference. That also makes it easy to copy, and someone already is (FollowPilot / TikTok Mass Unfollow AI use the same selling-point phrases).

### Visibility

**Few people know about it yet.** No public revenue, no press or big-X coverage, nothing surfaces in x-radar search, and the founder only posts on their own Medium and LinkedIn. The category is crowded with similar small extensions, but nobody has written up this developer's playbook.

### What to borrow

- Once a playbook is proven, move it to other platforms immediately (IG → X → TikTok → Threads), re-running the same approach under a new platform name.

- Build titles from the exact phrases users search; answer the #1 search question directly in the description (even if the answer is "we can't do that").

- Launch in 52 languages from the start to capture long-tail search in non-English markets.

- Dole out a free quota daily and let it accumulate: users get value fast enough to stay, but clearing a big list takes weeks, which makes paying feel natural.

- Add a rating prompt inside the extension to push the rating-to-user ratio to around 5%, so it looks more credible than competitors in search.

### Still unclear

- The $5.99/month price and the struck-through $25 come from the recall card and couldn't be confirmed on public pages; there's no data on paying users or revenue.

- Real user count past 1k (the store only shows approximations).

- Whether the ratings come from an in-extension prompt or from the developer buying reviews can only be inferred from the ratio and the review style.

- FollowPilot (echpgnh…) user count and launch date weren't found.

- If TikTok changes its API or tightens rate limits, tools like this could stop working overnight.
