A Nigerian dev splits one backend into a dozen entry points: FormGPT built to 2,000 users with its name and 97 landing pages

What it is A Chrome sidebar extension plus a web app. Type in a request or upload lecture notes, AI generates questions, and they become a real Google Form in your Drive.

Why it's growing It hasn't really taken off. It has slowly climbed to 2,000. It uses store search terms directly in its name, its website has 97 "X to Google Forms" landing pages, and the same author runs a dozen quiz extensions that cross-link each other.

CHow you could play it Don't copy this product. Copy the play: take one backend capability, pick a target that big extensions and platform-native AI haven't locked up yet (say Microsoft Forms, Canvas, or Kahoot), and split it into a chain of extensions and long-tail landing pages that feed each other.

C grade: the category is crowded with 35M installs of older extensions and Google's own Gemini, and it has already stopped growing at 2,000 users. The matrix-plus-SEO play is worth learning, but copying this product specifically isn't worth it. Few people know about it yet

FormGPT is a Chrome extension plus a web app that generates quizzes and surveys from a single sentence or a PDF and writes them straight into your Google Forms. Launched June 2026, it reached 2,000 users in five months. The product itself is no different from dozens of others. What's worth watching is how its author picks up traffic one entry point at a time, at almost zero cost, in a category packed with people.

The first review was written by the author

June 2026 4: FormGPT was listed on the Chrome Web Store. The same day, its first review appeared, one line: "perfect for creating my students assessments." Signed Chi Ofoegbu.

The developer listed on the store page is Confidence Chigemezu Ofoegbu, based in Bonny, Rivers State, Nigeria, with the email [email protected]. On AlternativeTo he goes by Chi Ofoegbu. As of Nov 6, the extension had 3 ratings averaging 4.3 stars.

It has never gone viral, and nobody is talking about it. It reached 2,000 users using a plain, easy-to-copy playbook.

What it is

Install the extension, open the sidebar in Google Docs, Slides, or Forms, and tell it "20 multiple-choice questions on photosynthesis," or upload a document (PDF, Word, or TXT, up to 5 MB). It produces a draft. You edit questions, answers, and point values in its editor, then export with one click to a real Google Form in your Drive. You can also paste the link to an existing form and append questions to it.

The category is already crowded

"AI-generated Google Forms" isn't a new need, and the main battlefield isn't the Chrome Web Store. It's the Google Workspace Marketplace:

AiFastForm, Formify, and others on Product HuntWebSingle-digit votes eachSame product

(Workspace add-on install counts as read on 11-06.)

FormGPT's distinguishing points (sidebar in Docs and Slides, appending questions to existing forms, previewing before export, a $39 annual plan) are mostly shared by the leaders too. It didn't win on product.

Where the 2,000 users came from

The name is the search term. "FormGPT AI Google Form Builder" packs the whole phrase "AI Google Form Builder" into its name, which is exactly the name of the leading extensions (50k users). In the "related extensions" bar under the store listing, it appears alongside the leaders, the Shhapps version, and the author's own Quizlet and Docs exporters.

97 landing pages. The formgpt.co sitemap has 97 pages: PDF to Google Forms, Word, PPT, and YouTube converters, quiz generators for different question types, wedding RSVP forms, Likert scales, and comparison pages like "Automagical alternative." There is even a page on making the "group chat vote form" that was trendy on TikTok in 2021 (posted Aug 31). The site also ships an llms.txt for AI search crawlers. As of Nov 6, searching "pdf to google forms quiz" put its landing page at #2, just behind Automagical.

A dozen entry points from one author, cross-linking. This is the foundation. The author's parent brand, MyQuizGPT, first built a quiz GPT in ChatGPT, then built a string of extensions around "moving questions from elsewhere into Google Forms": Super NotebookLM Exporter (2,000 users), GPT Google Form Quiz Maker (2,000), NotebookLM Quiz to Google Forms (1,000), Docs to Google Forms (757), Quizlet to Google Forms Exporter (168), a math formula extension, plus two Workspace add-ons (249 and 80 installs) and a WordPress quiz plugin. Together, that's a dozen-plus extensions and about 10k users (third-party extension stats). Every page's footer links to all the sibling products. Searching "notebooklm quiz to google forms" puts myquizgpt.com at #1.

The timing helped. NotebookLM added a quiz feature in September 2025, and teachers started looking for ways to get those questions into Google Forms. He built the exporter first. FormGPT is the "general-purpose version" that split off from that line later.

Almost no social effort. The TikTok account has 0 posts, and the YouTube channel has 1 videos with 27 views. No post on X mentions it in the past six months. The parent brand got 2025 votes on Product Hunt in November 6. No sign of paid ads (which doesn't mean there were none).

Where the money comes from

The free tier allows 2 uses a day and 10 a month, which is tight. The $3.99 weekly plan is for teachers who have a test tomorrow and need to build it tonight. The $39 annual plan is for regular users. Paying user counts and revenue aren't public. At 2,000 users and these prices, this one extension probably doesn't bring in much (inference). The author's finances have to be judged across the whole matrix.

If it were you

C: learn the playbook, not this product. Above "AI to Google Forms" sit 35M installs of older extensions and Google's own Gemini. The Chrome branch tops out at tens of thousands of users. FormGPT itself has been at 2,000 users for five months and stopped growing in November. What you can take away is the distribution method, not the position.

Who it suits: Indie devs who already have a backend that can "turn A into B" (convert formats, generate content, export to a platform). They need to be willing to write dozens of long-tail landing pages and ship a string of small extensions, and build slowly.

Who it doesn't suit: Anyone trying to launch one big product head-on in the Google Forms quiz space; anyone counting on a single extension to pay the bills; anyone who won't write SEO pages and only wants to code.

How to do it: Pick a new "target" that hasn't been locked up by leaders or platform built-ins, and lay it out the same way: one backend, split into individual extensions and landing pages for "NotebookLM / ChatGPT / Quizlet / PDF / Word → your target," each capturing one search term. The target could be Microsoft Forms, Canvas, Moodle, Kahoot, or Notion, places where teachers and trainers already work but AI generation tools are still scarce. (Which one is emptiest hasn't been verified. Search the stores and the Workspace / Microsoft marketplaces first.)

How to get users: Name the store listing "brand + search term"; have every extension page link to its sibling products; build the website page by page around "X to Y," "X alternative," and "a certain type of quiz generator," and add an llms.txt; anchor on a tool that's growing (like NotebookLM's quiz feature back then) so you show up when its users look for export options. Price the subscription with a weekly plan cheaper per week than the annual plan, aimed at exam season and the start of the school year.

Is there a window? This playbook doesn't have a window. What counts is getting in early and covering the ground. But for any specific "→ target," once the platform builds in AI generation itself (as Gemini did for Google Forms), that line is over. Move before then.

What would show you're wrong: (1) If FormGPT or the author's matrix clearly passed 2027k or 10k users in early 20, then the Chrome branch has a higher ceiling than it looks, and following it still has room. (2) The reverse: if the extensions in the author's matrix all stall at a few hundred to two thousand users, this coverage-based playbook pays back very little, so don't spend much time on it. (3) If Microsoft Forms or your chosen target platform announces built-in AI quiz generation, drop that line.

Why FormGPT AI Google Form Builder (Chrome) got traction

Bottom line

Strictly speaking, it hasn't taken off yet: 5 months since listing, 2,000 users, 3 ratings. It's another entry point from a Nigerian solo developer (the MyQuizGPT matrix) in the "AI-generated Google Forms" space, which is already crowded. The growth from 1k to 2k came mainly from three things: the extension name uses the store search term directly, about 97 SEO landing pages on the website, and a dozen-plus extensions and Workspace add-ons from the same author cross-linking each other. The product itself has nothing that breaks it out. What's worth learning is this low-cost matrix plus SEO playbook, not the product.

What it does: a web app plus a sidebar extension. Open the sidebar in Google Docs, Slides, or Forms, enter a prompt or upload a PDF / DOCX / TXT / MD (under 5 MB), and generate multiple-choice, true/false, surveys, and feedback forms, written straight into the user's Drive as a real Google Form. You can also paste the link to an existing form to append questions (formgpt.co homepage and about page).

2. Competitors: the niche was already crowded

The main battlefield for "AI generation / document to Google Forms" isn't the Chrome Web Store, it's the Google Workspace Marketplace add-ons, and there's official functionality pressing down on it:

Bottom line: it's not that there are no competitors, there are too many. The top add-ons have millions to tens of millions of installs, and there's Google's own Gemini. FormGPT ranks in the second tier on this small Chrome sub-track, and the Shhapps version that came later is in the same boat as 2,000.

3. Where users came from (growth tactics)

  1. Extension name uses a store search term: "FormGPT AI Google Form Builder" puts the search term "AI Google Form Builder" in full into its name. The top imgkits extension is called "AI Google Form Builder" (50k users). In the store's "Related" section, FormGPT appears alongside imgkits, Shhapps, Magic Google Form, the same author's Quizlet to Google Forms Exporter, and Docs to Google Forms (Chrome Web Store page, Related), picking up exposure by association. Confirmed (visible in the name and related section); traffic share not verified.
  2. SEO landing page matrix: the formgpt.co sitemap has 97 URLs, including "PDF / Word / PPT / YouTube / Sheets to Google Forms," various quiz generators, RSVP and wedding RSVP, tutorial pages on Likert and ranking polls, competitor comparison pages (/alternatives/automagical-forms, /formswrite, /extended-forms), and an llms.txt for AI search. On Brave: searching "pdf to google forms quiz" puts formgpt.co/pdf-to-google-forms-quiz at #2, just behind Automagical; "google form generator ai" ranks #10 and #12; "ai google form builder" ranks #17. Confirmed.
  3. Same-author matrix cross-linking traffic: every page footer links 2 Workspace add-ons (AI Quiz Maker for Google Forms - MyQuizGPT, 249 installs; Form Builder GPT, 80 installs), Super NotebookLM Exporter (2,000 users), GPT Google Form Quiz Maker (2,000), NotebookLM Quiz to Google Forms (1,000), Docs to Google Forms (757), Quizlet to Google Forms Exporter (168), Math for Google Forms, plus the MyQuizGPT GPT in ChatGPT. The recall card says this publisher has 13 extensions in total and about 10k users. Searching "notebooklm quiz to google forms" on myquizgpt.com ranks #1. This author's real traffic entry is on the NotebookLM and ChatGPT side; FormGPT is the "general-purpose version" split off from there. Confirmed (footer links, Brave rankings).
  4. Social accounts are just present: TikTok @formgpt has 0 followers and 0 posts (TikHub); YouTube @FormGPT has only 1 videos and 27 views (4 months ago); x-radar found zero mentions of formgpt / myquizgpt in the last 180 days; X, Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, Medium, and GitHub have accounts registered but are otherwise inactive. Social is not driving traffic.
  5. Directories and Product Hunt: directories like f6s and 1000.tools list it; the parent brand MyQuizGPT was on Product Hunt and got only 6 points 2025-11-05 (producthunt library). Volume is very small.
  6. Ads: no evidence of ad spend found (the ad library only tracks products on its list, unverified).

4. Why it reached 2,000

  • Timing: Demand for teachers using AI to write quizzes and NotebookLM to make tests has been climbing from 2025 to 2026 (NotebookLM 2025-09 added quizzes / flashcards, per Google's blog). The founder first built an exporter from "NotebookLM / ChatGPT / Quizlet → Google Forms" and rode that traffic, then split out the general "prompt → form" tool as FormGPT.
  • Near-zero replication cost: the same backend (generate JSON, then write via the Forms API) plus a new entry point and name makes a new extension and a new landing page. FormGPT itself is only 44 KB.
  • Store search plus long-tail SEO: the name contains the search term, and landing pages are built out one by one around long-tail phrases like "X to Google Forms," several of which ranked near the top.
  • The Established publisher badge makes the listing look more trustworthy (chromestore).
  • Why users stay / pay: no direct evidence. Only 3 ratings. The free tier of 2 uses per day and 10 per month is tight, and the $3.99/week plan is a classic "pay once when you're in a rush" design, aimed at the crunch of exam season. Paying users and revenue are not public.

5. Differentiation

Compared with rivals, its possible points of difference are: ① two entry points, web and the Chrome sidebar, and the sidebar also works in Docs and Slides, not only in Forms; ② it can append questions to an existing form; ③ after generation you preview and edit answers and points in Studio before writing to Drive; ④ pricing splits into weekly, monthly and yearly, and the $39 yearly plan is very cheap. But Automagical, AI Form Builder, Formswrite and the Shhapps version mostly have these too, and Gemini natively can build forms from a prompt. The differentiation is weak, and that is not why it reached 2,000. The reason is distribution: search-term names, SEO pages, cross-promotion.

6. How many people know it / has anyone copied it

  • Awareness: few people know it. Zero discussion on X, no media coverage, TikTok and YouTube almost empty, revenue not disclosed, only SEO directory sites and f6s index it.
  • Copycats / lookalikes: Shhapps's "Google Form Builder" (listed 2026-08-10, after FormGPT, with a very similar name, description and sidebar format, 155 ratings), and since 2025-12 at least 5 new "text / document → Google Form" products on Product Hunt. More accurately, everyone is copying the same template, not specifically copying it.

7. Takeaways

  • One backend capability, split into many "source X → target Y" extensions and landing pages (NotebookLM, Quizlet, Gemini, Docs, PDF → Google Forms), each going after a long-tail search term and cross-linking through footers and store related-items sections.
  • Store names use "brand + search term" directly, and landing pages cover "PDF / Word / PPT to X", competitor comparison pages, plus llms.txt, to capture long-tail traffic on Google and AI search.
  • The subscription is designed as a very cheap yearly plan alongside a weekly one, aimed at seasonal urgent needs like exams and the start of school.
  • A cautionary note: the main battlefield is the Workspace Marketplace (millions to tens of millions of installs) and Gemini's native features, so the ceiling of the Chrome extension track is low.

8. Still unclear

  • How users arrived: how much came from store search, SEO and cross-promotion is not visible.
  • Conversion to paid and revenue are completely unknown; whether they bought Google Ads is unverified.
  • Whether Shhapps's 155 ratings were incentivized is unverified.
  • The recall card says "13 extensions, 10k users"; our database only found about 6 of them (the rest either weren't indexed or changed names).
  • The registration date of formgpt.co could not be found (RDAP returned nothing); myquizgpt.com was registered by 2025-10-30.
