The business of one export button: day 19 after NotebookLM's rename, a Nigerian developer ships plugin #5
What it is A Chrome extension that adds an export button to NotebookLM's (Gemini Notebook's) quizzes, exporting a whole notebook's quizzes at once into ten formats, including Google Forms that auto-grade, PDF, Word, and Anki.
Why it took off The free original already proved teachers want to export quizzes. This one rides a platform rename, uses both old and new names to catch search, then steadily pulls in a dozen or two people a day through the same developer's 5 plugins, a few keyword sites, and self-written rankings.
CHow you could follow it Don't build another NotebookLM quiz exporter. Copy the playbook instead: find the next platform feature that can generate but can't export, build a single-feature plugin for it, and tie it to your own paid product.
1,000 users · rating 5.0 (2)
On 2026 Jul 16, Google renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook. 19 days later, a developer named Confidence Chigemezu Ofoegbu on Bonny Island in Rivers State, Nigeria, listed a Chrome extension with both the old and new names in it: "NotebookLM Quiz Exporter for Gemini Notebook." Three months later it had 1,000 users. The number isn't big, but how it got there and where the money ended up is worth a look for anyone building extensions.
What it does
NotebookLM can generate multiple-choice questions from your uploaded textbook, but you can only take them within the web page. This extension adds an "Export" button on the quiz page that exports one quiz, or every quiz in a notebook, at once, into ten formats: Google Forms (with answers and auto-grading), printable PDF worksheets, Word, PPT, Anki, Quizlet, CSV, QTI and more. The store page says: "Nothing to copy and paste. No questions to rebuild manually."
The main users are teachers: they generate quizzes from their own lecture notes with NotebookLM, then move them into Google Classroom or a school learning platform, or print them as worksheets. Retyping one quiz by hand takes half an hour. Exporting takes one click.
Someone else proved the demand first
This isn't the first one. In 2025 November Google added quizzes to NotebookLM, and as of late 2026 September the official help center still had no way to export them (per an nlmtools 2026-09-25 article). Malaysian lecturer Chuah Kee Man spotted the gap and published a free NotebookLM Quiz Exporter on 2026 Feb 3. In Apr 16 he said on Facebook that weekly actives had passed 10k. The store now shows 30k users, 43 ratings, and a 4.5 rating.
The original is free, needs no account, processes everything locally, and exports to 15+ formats (Moodle, Aiken, GIFT, Quizizz included). It has two gaps: it can only export the quiz you have open, and exporting to Google Forms goes through Sheets first. He wrote on Facebook: "Can't do direct creation."
Ofoegbu's extension targets exactly those two gaps: bulk export of a whole notebook, and direct creation of a Google Form that auto-grades.
Where the 1,000 users came from
Look at the curve first (third-party plugin stats, with daily Chrome store numbers from 11-01 onward):
| Date | users |
|---|---|
| 2026-08-04 | Launched |
| 2026-09-01 | 133 |
| 2026-10-04 | 589 |
| 2026-11-03 | 1,000 |
| 2026-11-06 | 1,000, 2 ratings |
Gained about 400 users over 30 days, 15–20 per day, no spikes, not like chart-pushing or paid buying. The store rounds once it passes 1,000, so a flat look in November doesn't necessarily mean it stopped.
Those ten to twenty people a day come from a very cheap traffic playbook:
- The name catches two search terms. After the rename, some people search NotebookLM and some search Gemini Notebook, and the name covers both. On the store's "related" row, it sits next to the original.
- One developer, 5 plugins. The same account also runs Super NotebookLM Exporter (2,000 users), NotebookLM Quiz to Google Form Exporter (1,000), FormGPT and GPT Google Form Quiz Maker (2,000 each), about 8,000 users in total (Chrome store developer page, 11-06). Each plugin targets one long-tail keyword.
- One plugin per site. notebooklmquizexporter.com, notebooklmexporter.com and myquizgpt.com all host landing pages on "how to export NotebookLM quizzes to Google Forms." Searching "NotebookLM export quiz Google Forms" on 11-06 returns several of his sites in the top ten.
- Self-written rankings. myquizgpt.com runs an article "Top 8 Best NotebookLM Exporter Extensions" where the top three are his own plugins, and the original with 30k users ranks seventh. The same piece was posted to LinkedIn.
- YouTube tutorials. The @MyQuizGPT channel has 14 subscribers. "How to Export NotebookLM Quiz in Seconds" has 1,450 views (posted 2026-09-02), and the Google Forms one has 988 views.
What I didn't find: on X over the last 90 days, searches for notebooklm quiz and myquizgpt each returned 0 posts; no influencer recommendations, press coverage or ads; on Reddit, r/notebooklm and r/Anki threads about exporting quizzes recommend other tools.
The money is outside the plugin
The plugin is free, but login and quotas go through a MyQuizGPT account. Besides the two NotebookLM domains, the plugin's permissions also include myquizgpt.com. The free tier has a daily export limit, and logging in unlocks more; the paid tier is unlimited. The pricing page follows the usual AI-tool pattern: $3.99 a week, $9.99 a month, $39 a year, $27 one-time, a classroom plan at $200, and a "Save 81%" countdown on the homepage.
So the plugin's real job is as a funnel: it turns the search traffic for "export quiz" into MyQuizGPT's paywall. MyQuizGPT also has custom GPTs in ChatGPT, two Google Workspace add-ons and a WordPress plugin, with teachers and students as users (my inference: these products cross-promote each other).
How much money they've made isn't visible from outside. MyQuizGPT and these domains don't show up on any public revenue-verification platform. The only publicly verified revenue in this category is Kortex NotebookLM, a general toolkit: 100k users, MRR $3,378 (TrustMRR). With 100k users it earns that little, so the conversion from a 1,000-user funnel is probably small (estimate).
Who's competing
Chrome store extensions with NotebookLM in the name, 11-06 of which 87 are quiz exporters:
| Product | users | How it compares |
|---|---|---|
| NotebookLM Quiz Exporter (Chuah Kee Man, the original) | 30k | Free, more formats, lets you pick questions; no bulk export, Forms go through Sheets |
| NotebookLM Ultra Exporter | 100k | Exports everything; quizzes are just one feature |
| NotebookLM Tools (nlmtools.com) | 100k | General toolkit with SEO articles on exporting quizzes |
| Kortex NotebookLM | 100k | Paid toolkit, MRR $3,378 |
| Two other export plugins from the same developer | 2,000 / 1,000 | Sibling products: one wider in scope, one Forms-only |
| NLM Quiz Exporter, NotebookLM Quiz Extractor, etc. | Dozens to hundreds | JSON/CSV export only, a later small one |
The biggest rival hasn't appeared yet: Google itself. NotebookLM reports can already export to Docs and tables to Sheets. If quizzes get an export button someday, this whole class of plugins gets replaced. Someone reported the original's author also said Google would add native export (unverified; the original was still updating to v2.50.0 as of Aug 21).
What to take away
- Wherever a platform gives you generation but no export, there's ready-made plugin demand. NotebookLM quizzes, flashcards and mind maps all work this way. The first builders are often teachers or academics who don't charge, so the demand gets validated for you.
- One paid parent site with several single-feature plugins. Name each plugin after one long-tail keyword, give each its own landing page, and write a "Top N" article that ranks you first. One person can run this and steadily bring in dozens of users a day.
- Platform renames are a traffic window. Relaunch with the new name plus the old name, and catch the traffic from people using either name during the months after the rename.
If it were you
C. The product itself isn't worth following: the category already has 87 plugins, the free original holds 30k users, three toolkits with 100k users export quizzes as a side feature, and if Google adds one button it's all gone. What's worth taking is the playbook, not the product.
Who it suits: people who already have a paid product for teachers or students and lack a steady entry point; people who can build Chrome plugins and are willing to run several small plugins and landing pages at once, solo.
Who it doesn't suit: people who want to make money from an export plugin alone (the plugin is free, and a 1,000-user funnel doesn't convert to many orders); people with no parent site or paid product to attach it to.
How to do it: don't build another NotebookLM quiz exporter. Find the next place where the platform can generate but can't export: Gemini Notebook flashcards, mind maps, audio overviews, or questions produced by other AI study tools. Build a single-feature plugin, name it after the exact phrase users really search, export to where teachers actually work (Google Forms, Classroom, learning platforms), and put the paywall on bulk export and direct creation.
How to get users: store search, landing pages and YouTube tutorials, all three at once. Launch in the week the platform renames or ships the feature.
When to move: before Google adds native export. In the months after a new feature ships, the official team hasn't gotten to export yet, and plugins can take the spot.
Signs I got it wrong: (1) this plugin passes 5,000 users before the end of 2026, or MyQuizGPT publishes solid revenue, which would mean the funnel is worth more than it looks; (2) the opposite: Gemini Notebook ships a quiz export button, and this whole class is finished, so the playbook has to move to other platforms.

NotebookLM Quiz Exporter for Gemini Notebook(chrome_mkmojbobiknceohinohjmppjmfggblee)
One-liner: a "Export" button for the NotebookLM / Gemini Notebook quiz page that batch-exports one or all quizzes from a notebook into ten formats: Google Forms (with answers, auto-graded), PDF practice sheets, Word, PPT, Anki, Quizlet, CSV, JSON, QTI and Markdown. The developer is MyQuizGPT, a paid AI quiz tool, and this extension is its acquisition funnel.
Verdict
It hasn't really "taken off." By 2026-11-06 it had 1,000 users and 2 ratings. It's a small funnel in a small business. It grows steadily, and the reason isn't the product alone. Three things stack:
- The demand is already there: 2025-11 Google added a quiz feature to NotebookLM, but there's still no official quiz export (an nlmtools 2026-09-25 article says Google's help center doesn't document any way to download them). Malaysian lecturer Chuah Kee Man launched a free original 2026-02, and it hit 10k weekly actives in 2026-04 weeks and now has 30k users. Teachers clearly want this.
- Rode the rename: 2026-07-16 NotebookLM was renamed Gemini Notebook and moved to notebook.google.com. It was 2026-08-04 listed with both "NotebookLM" and "Gemini Notebook" in the name, targeting searches for the renamed product.
- MyQuizGPT's mass-traffic playbook: the same developer has 5 extensions, 3 keyword websites, a self-written "Best NotebookLM Extensions Top 8" list that puts their own 3 products in the top three, and YouTube tutorials. The store also recommends it next to the original.
The differentiator (batch-exporting a whole notebook, and generating auto-graded Google Forms directly) is real, but it isn't the main reason it grew. The original is free, needs no account, and covers 15 formats, so it already owns the category. This extension's job is to convert "export quiz" traffic into MyQuizGPT's paywall ($3.99/week, $9.99/month, $39/year, $27 one-time, classroom plan $200).

- Up about 411 users in 30 days, roughly 15–20 per day. No spike, which doesn't look like chart-pushing or paid acquisition. The store rounds displayed counts above 1,000, so flat early-November numbers don't mean growth stopped.
- Version 0.8.5,2026-10-07 update (store page). Permissions include notebooklm.google.com and notebook.google.com, plus myquizgpt.com (chromestore library, permissions), which suggests login and quotas run through MyQuizGPT accounts.

Where users come from
- Store search with long-tail keywords (confirmed): the name is "NotebookLM Quiz Exporter for Gemini Notebook", differing from the original only in the second half, covering both the old and new brand names. In the store's "related" section it appears alongside the original, Super Exporter, Quiz to Google Form, NotebookLM Tools and others (this product's store page, 2026-11-06).
- SEO site network (confirmed): notebooklmquizexporter.com (this product), notebooklmexporter.com (Super Exporter, which also has landing pages like /how-to-export-quiz-from-notebooklm and /notebooklm-quiz-to-google-forms), and myquizgpt.com/notebooklm-quiz-to-google-forms. Searching "NotebookLM export quiz Google Forms" returns several of their pages in Jina's top ten.
- Self-written listicle (confirmed): myquizgpt.com/notebooklm/the-best-notebooklm-chrome-extension, "Top 8 Best NotebookLM Exporter Extensions". The top three are their own Super Exporter, Quiz to Google Forms and this product, with the original at #7. The same content was posted to LinkedIn by myquizgpt.
- YouTube tutorials (confirmed, small volume): @MyQuizGPT has 14 subscribers. "How to Export NotebookLM Quiz in Seconds" has 1,450 views (2026-09-02), and "How to Export a NotebookLM Quiz to Google Forms" has 988 views (2026-08-06). A generic tutorial from the third-party How-To Learning Academy has 163 views.
- Cross-promotion across the parent brand's other products (inferred): MyQuizGPT also has a ChatGPT custom GPT, two Google Workspace add-ons, a WordPress plugin and FormGPT, and their users are mostly teachers and students.
- Not found: on X (x-radar, 90 days of corpus), searches for notebooklm quiz and myquizgpt each return 0 posts. I saw no influencer posts, press coverage or ads. The quiz-export discussions on Reddit r/notebooklm and r/Anki mention other tools.
Why people use it and pay
- Teachers have a concrete pain: multiple-choice questions NotebookLM generates from their own materials need to go into Google Forms, an LMS, or print. Copying a quiz by hand takes half an hour; exporting takes seconds.
- "Export a whole notebook in one click" helps teachers who generate a separate quiz for each source (the site's pitch: "the difference between a two-minute job and a long afternoon").
- Generating an auto-graded Google Form with answers directly is something the original can't do (it goes through Sheets). This is where the paywall bites: the free tier has a daily export allowance, more when logged in, and premium is unlimited (the official site quoted on the recall card; the pricing page says "Unlimited exports").
- The paywall is heavy: $3.99 per week, a "Save 81%" countdown on the homepage, and a $27 one-time option, the classic weekly-subscription play for AI micro-tools. I couldn't find the real conversion rate.
How many people saw it
Few people know about it yet. No public revenue; MyQuizGPT and related domains don't appear on TrustMRR (indie library); 0 discussion on X; no press coverage. The only public revenue in this niche is Kortex NotebookLM (MRR $3,378). But the broader "NotebookLM extension" category is already crowded (87 extensions).
Differentiation
- Versus the original: batch export, auto-graded Google Forms generated directly, and an extra web account system (storing question banks, share links, leaderboards). The original is broader (more formats, picking questions, LaTeX support), free, needs no account, and focuses on privacy.
- Versus the general toolboxes: it does only quizzes, and its landing pages and tutorials cover only that one thing.
- The differentiator isn't why it grew. Its 1,000 users mostly come from demand the original already proved, plus search traffic from keywords and the rename. The real value of the differentiator is that it creates a point to charge at.
What to borrow
- Wherever a platform generates something but offers no way to export it (NotebookLM quizzes, flashcards, mind maps), there's ready-made extension demand, and the original authors are often unpaid teachers or academics.
- One paid parent site with several single-feature extensions, each named for a specific long-tail search term; one website per extension; plus a self-written "Top N" list. Low cost, and it can keep adding dozens of users a day.
- When the platform gets renamed, relaunch immediately with both the new and old names to catch searches during the transition.
Unknowns
- The recall card says "the original author says Google will add native export and plans to stop maintaining it." I couldn't verify this (his Facebook requires login). The original is at 2026-08-21 and has released v2.50.0. If Google adds native quiz export, this whole category gets replaced.
- Unknown: MyQuizGPT's real revenue, and how much of it the extension converts.
- Whether November's user count stalled at 1,000 because of store rounding or real growth stopped won't be clear until it passes 2,000.
- I couldn't get the exact free daily limit (the store description is truncated, and the official FAQ only links to the pricing page).
