114 days, 564 users: why a $47 KDP product research tool turned into a $4.99 extension still hasn't taken off
What it is An extension that sits on Amazon's search page and shows indie authors selling books through Amazon self-publishing each book's rank, estimated sales, royalties and long-tail keywords to help them choose topics. Free to use, with premium features at $4.99 or $12.99 per month.
Why it took off It hasn't really taken off yet: almost all users found it by searching "KDP niche" in the Chrome store or spotting it in related recommendations on big competitor pages. Growth picked up a little in November, riding Christmas-season topic research.
DHow you could approach it Not recommended to build another copycat extension. If you do, first get a KDP tutorial channel or community, give the extension away free as a content hook, or pick one thing the established players do poorly (such as sales estimates for non-English stores, or seasonal research) and go deep on it.

KDP Book Niche Finder is a Chrome extension that sits on Amazon's search page and helps people selling books through Amazon KDP pick their topics. It was built by one person in Casablanca, who copied almost every feature of BookBeam and Book Bolt, which charge $24–47 a month, into the extension and sells it for $4.99/month. Three and a half months after launch it has only 564 users. Three days before it, someone else launched a nearly identical free extension, made a YouTube video about it, and got about 4 times as many users. Having every feature is no longer an advantage. This piece covers what it is, where its users come from, who it's competing with, and whether you should follow it.
Two extensions launched the same week
In 2026 July 13, Ike Paz, who runs the KDP tools site BowesPaz, released a "KDP Niche & Keyword Tool" with a YouTube video titled "The Best Amazon KDP Research Tool Is 100% Free And Live". As of November the video has 8,150 views.
Three days later, in July 16, Mohamed Msaddar in Casablanca, Morocco, released KDP Book Niche Finder under the store name KdpHunter. The website kdphunter.com was registered in July 5. Two days later the store got its first review, just two words, "amazing thanks". It appeared the day after launch, so it was probably left by someone the developer knows (inference).
By November, BowesPaz's extension had about 2,000 users and KdpHunter's had 564 (Chrome store, 11-07). On feature lists, KdpHunter's is longer.
What it is
Search Amazon for "anxiety journal for women" and a toolbar appears above the results, turning the whole page of books into a table: each book's BSR (sales rank), estimated daily sales, and royalties per book, ending with a "Niche score 87, low competition, high demand, ✓ GO · publish here" (shown on the website homepage). The store listing names 12 tools, most using the established names for their features:
- Cerebro long-tail keywords: the name comes from Helium 10.
- Hunting Books: scans several result pages at once and saves lists. This is BookBeam's feature name.
- Time under BSR / seasonal check: keeps only books whose rank has stayed under a certain number for the past N days; pick a month (Valentine's Day, back to school, Christmas) and see which books sold well at that time last year.
- AI trademark checks, AI title and keyword generation, negative review mining, profit calculator, cover design.
It supports 22 Amazon marketplaces, including the UAE, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Poland and Sweden. The BSR history curves are likely borrowed from Keepa's charts, judging by the permissions (inference). In three and a half months it has shipped 1.5.42 versions, with one update in Oct 29. The tutorial page on the website says "Videos are on the way", and there are no videos yet.
Where the money comes from
The extension itself is free; accounts and payments run through the website. Starter is free, with a daily usage limit per tool; Pro is $4.99/month (crossed-out original price $9.99), Premium is $12.99/month (original price $25.99), with a "Save 50%" badge, a 7-day refund, and payments via Lemon Squeezy (kdphunter.com/pricing, 11-06).
Whether anyone is paying can't be seen from outside. Even if 3% of 564 users pay, that's only a dozen or so orders, under $100 a month (estimate).
Where users come from: almost all found it on the store themselves
No outside promotion turned up: nobody is talking about it on X, Reddit, or TikTok, and there's nothing on YouTube either. Side note: there's a YouTube channel called "KDP HunteR 2.0" with 390k subscribers, but it posts BeamNG truck videos and has nothing to do with this. The only entry points I could find are two:
- The name is the search term. "KDP Book Niche Finder", with the description stuffed with BSR, profit calculator, and keyword research. People searching those terms in the store run into it (inference, but the growth curve is smooth, not like a single push).
- Sitting in the "related extensions" slot of big competitors. Open the store pages for BookBeam (30k users), KIP Scout, or BowesPaz and it shows up in the related recommendations below.
The growth curve also lines up with these two entry points: Aug 31 228 people, Oct 4 366 people, Oct 29 427 people, Nov 5 544 people (extops.dev curve). 9, October added a net 70-80 people a month, and November added over a hundred in its first week alone. The KDP crowd picks Christmas journals and coloring books every year from 10 to November, so the acceleration falls right in that season (inference). The rating count is stuck at 6 reviews, all 5 stars, with nothing new since Oct 24.
Who it's competing with
This niche has been around for a decade and is crowded. Scale, by Chrome Store users as of November:
| Product | Launched | users | Pricing | Compared with alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Helium 10 | 2016 | 1M | High-priced subscription | All-category Amazon seller tool; the name Cerebro is theirs |
| DS Amazon Quick View | 2014 | 500k | Free | Shows BSR only on the search page, which is enough for a lot of people |
| Titans Quick View / Pro | 2020 | 70k + 40k + 5k | Free to start, $15–45/mo | Has YouTube tutorials and a community |
| KDSPY | 2015 | 70k | One-time purchase | Veteran, rated 3.8 |
| KDP Spy(Book Bolt) | 2019 | 50k | $23.99–35.99/mo | Rated 2.3, users say it's expensive |
| BookBeam | 2020 | 30k | From $47/mo | This is the one they benchmark every feature against |
| KIP Scout(Dibbly) | 2024-11 | 10k | Free | Backed by KDP tool company Dibbly, which films its own tutorial videos |
| KDP Niche & Keyword Tool(BowesPaz) | 2026-07-13 | 2,000 | Free | Launched the same week, got traction through YouTube |
| KDP Metric, AuthorClimb, Nicherr, BookPeek, Ocean KDP Lens, Shelf Scout, and others | 2026 | 0–352 | Mostly free | Same template, still shipping new ones in November |
The last two lines are the ones to watch. This year at least 8 AI-written KDP niche extensions have shipped, the latest two in Nov 1 and Nov 5. They're not that different from KdpHunter, and their users are stuck in the hundreds. $4.99 isn't the lowest price either: DS Quick View, KIP Scout, and BowesPaz are all free.
Where it actually falls short
KdpHunter's product is fine: full features, low price, frequent updates. But all three are things anyone can build in a week or two with AI in 2026, so there's no moat. What it lacks is distribution: getting people to see it.
Every product in this category that got real traction has a person or content channel behind it: Titans has tutorials and a community, KIP Scout has Dibbly's videos, BowesPaz has Ike Paz's YouTube. KDP users learn how to pick niches and publish through YouTube, and whichever tool shows up in their videos is the one they install. KdpHunter's tutorial page is still empty.
It's also betting on something nobody else is: small markets like the Middle East, Turkey, Poland, and the Nordics. But its store page is English-only, the Arabic reviews are empty, and we found no Arabic or Turkish discussion anywhere. Whether anyone in these small markets uses it, there's no evidence yet.
If it were you
D: Worth knowing about, but I wouldn't copy it. KDP niche extensions already have a decade-old incumbent and a batch of AI clones from this year. KdpHunter is itself the example of "full features, low price, nobody knows about it". Building another one will most likely end up as the tenth to sit at a few hundred users.
Who it suits: People who already have a KDP audience, like a YouTube tutorial channel with tens of thousands of subscribers or a KDP course community. For them the extension is just a hook for their content, and giving it away free still gets users. The other fit is a native speaker of Japanese, German, or another large Amazon marketplace language who actually publishes there, building a local-language version. Nobody has validated that path, so it's a bet.
Who it doesn't suit: Coders who want to break in by undercutting BookBeam on price. The price is already undercut by free tools, and store search plus related slots brings in only a few dozen to a hundred users a month.
How to build it: Don't build the #13 tool. Pick one thing the old players haven't done well. For example, BSR-based sales estimates are often inaccurate on non-English stores, or seasonal product picking (which books spiked last Christmas) could be a plugin on its own. Use a free tier with a daily usage cap per tool to keep users installed, and KdpHunter's design is worth copying here.
How to get users: Make videos first, then publish. Film one how-to video per feature titled something like "find a Q5 niche in 4 minutes with this," using "free" and "KDP niche" in the title. BowesPaz's titles are a good reference. Keep using search terms in the store name and aim for the related slots on BookBeam and Titans, which costs nothing.
When to start: KDP niche picking peaks from 9 to November and in January (Valentine's books). Starting now is too late for the Christmas season. If you're going to build it, get the first batch of videos out before late December to catch the Valentine's and Mother's Day niches.
What would show this read is wrong: (1) KdpHunter doesn't fall off after Q4 and has itself grown past 3,000 users, which would mean store search and related slots alone can sustain a small extension; (2) a non-English KDP niche extension (Japanese, German, Arabic) passes a few thousand users within a few months, which would mean the small-market gap is real; (3) conversely, if free extensions with video backing like BowesPaz and KIP Scout also stop growing, the whole category is saturated and even content can't move it.

KDP Book Niche Finder (KdpHunter) research report
Chrome extension oepgmcneejlgjmoihgdelohiaobonmfd · developer MOHAMED MSADDAR (store name KdpHunter, Casablanca, Morocco, EU trader) · research date 2026-11-06
Bottom line
It hasn't broken out yet: after 114 days it has only 564 users and 6 ratings. It was recalled because it has grown fast in the last few days (11/1 447 → 11/7 564), but the volume is still tiny. Users mostly come from Chrome Web Store search and the "related extensions" slot on competitor pages, plus the Q4 KDP niche-picking peak. No off-site promotion found. Its strategy is to package the features of Helium 10 / BookBeam / Book Bolt as a "free + $4.99/mo" extension, priced 4–10 times below the incumbents. But this is a niche that has been filled with AI-built clones in 2026, and so far the price difference hasn't turned into scale.
1. What it is
- A KDP (Amazon self-publishing) niche toolbar installed on Amazon search results pages. Features include whole-page BSR/sales estimates, a Winner Dashboard, filtering by format/language/category, "Time under BSR" (days a book stays below a rank threshold), real BSR/price history, Cerebro long-tail keywords, AI trademark checks, AI listing generation, Review Audit, Google Trends seasonality, a profit calculator, and Cover Studio cover design (sources: store description; kdphunter.com homepage).
- Permissions cover 22 Amazon marketplaces, including .ae/.eg/.sa/.tr/.pl/.se/.nl/.sg/.in. It also calls graph.keepa.com (the BSR history curves are likely borrowed from Keepa charts), trends.google.com, and api.frankfurter.app (exchange rates) (source: chromestore library item.permissions).
- Pricing: official site kdphunter.com/pricing. Starter is free with daily limits; Pro is listed at $9.99 and now $4.99/mo; Premium is listed at $25.99 and now $12.99/mo; a "Save 50%" badge is shown, with a 7-day refund, billed through Lemon Squeezy. The store doesn't list in-app purchases (source: kdphunter.com/pricing, scraped 2026-11-06).
- Timeline: domain registered on 2026-07-05 (RDAP Verisign), extension first published on 2026-07-16, current version 1.5.42 (updated 2026-10-29), with frequent iterations. The official tutorial page says "Videos are on the way", and there are no tutorials yet (kdphunter.com/tutorial).
2. Growth data
| Date | users | Score | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-08-31 | 228 | – | extops.dev curve |
| 2026-09-13 | 289 | – | extops |
| 2026-10-04 | 366 | 5 | extops |
| 2026-10-29 | 427 (published 1.5.42) | 6 | extops |

| 2026-11-07 | 564 | 6 | chromestore library (related cards), store review page |
- From September to October, net installs grew by 70–100 per month, then accelerated to about +120 in the first week of November. Growth stayed smooth the whole way, with no sudden jumps. It looks more like organic search plus seasonality than a one-time promo.
- 6 ratings, averaging 5.0,10/24, and no new ones since. The only English review visible on the store is: "SERKAN CETIN, Jul 18, 2026: amazing thanks", posted on day 2 after launch, probably a friend or a test user. The Arabic review section is empty (store review pages hl=en / hl=ar).
3. Competitors
An old niche, and crowded. The leaders have been running for 5–10 years, and in year 2026 a wave of AI-written mini extensions showed up.
| Product | Form | Launched | Scale (chromestore library, 2026-11) | Pricing | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Helium 10 | Chrome + SaaS | 2016 | 1,000,000 users | High-priced subscription | Built for all Amazon sellers. The name Cerebro comes from Helium 10, and this product borrows that feature name directly, narrowed to books only. |
| DS Amazon Quick View | Chrome | 2014 | 500,000 | Free | Shows BSR only on search pages, with no KDP-specific features |
| Titans Quick View / Titans Pro(Self Publishing Titans) | Chrome + web | 2020 | 70,000 / 40,000 / 5,000 | Has a free tier, paid $15–45/month | Has YouTube tutorials and a community, a mature brand. This one is cheaper and covers more small storefronts. |
| KDSPY | Chrome | 2015 | 70,000 | One-time purchase | Veteran, rated 3.8. This one has more features and AI. |
| KDP Spy by Book Bolt | Chrome + SaaS | 2019 | 50,000 (rating 2.3) | $23.99–35.99/month (bookbolt.io/pricing, bookbird.io) | Expensive. This one is $4.99. |
| BookBeam | Chrome + SaaS | 2020 | 30,000 | From $47/month (bookbeam.io/pricing) | This is a low-cost alternative to it, matching Hunting Books, Niche Finder and other features one by one. |
| Publisher Rocket | Desktop/web | About 2017 | The official site claims 117,000 authors | $199 one-time purchase (vappingo.com) | Focuses on keywords and categories, with no on-page toolbar |
| KIP Scout(Marco Moutinho) | Chrome | 2024-11 | 10,000 | Free | Also a newer indie dev, reached 10k in two years. This one has more features but is slower to gain traction. |
| KDP Niche & Keyword Tool(BowesPaz / royaltyprints) | Chrome | 2026-07-13 | 2,000 | Completely free (requires a BowesPaz account) | Launched around the same time as this one. They push YouTube videos titled "100% free", while this one pushes subscriptions. |
| KDP Metric / AuthorClimb / KDP Publishing Assistant / Nicherr / KDP Quick Insights / BookPeek / Ocean KDP Lens(11-05)/ Shelf Scout(11-01) | Chrome | 2026 | 0–352 | Mostly free or freemium | Same wave of AI-built clones, nearly indistinguishable from this one |
Bottom line: it's not the first, and not the cheapest (free options already exist, like DS Quick View, KIP Scout and BowesPaz). It sits between "free" and the $20–47 veterans, and cuts in at the $4.99 tier.
4. Growth tactics (where users come from)
| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed? |
|---|---|---|
| Chrome Store search / name SEO | The name is the search term "KDP Book Niche Finder", and the description stuffs in BSR, profit calculator, keyword research and similar terms. There is no traffic trace off-store, official site or elsewhere, and growth is smooth. | Inferred, fairly strong |
| The "related extensions" slot on competitor pages | The store lists it on the pages of BookBeam, KIP Scout, BowesPaz and others as a related recommendation. It also appears in BowesPaz's related list on chrome-stats (chromestore.related table; chrome-stats.com search snippets). | Confirmed in place, traffic contribution unknown |
| Q4 seasonality | The KDP crowd piles into holiday journals and coloring books from 10 through November. YouTube had "Spot Profitable KDP Niches for Q4"-style content at the same time, and its November acceleration lines up with that. | Inferred |
| YouTube / TikTok / X / Reddit | Searching kdphunter and KDP Book Niche Finder: 0 posts on X (x-radar, 120 days); 0 related TikTok results (all of them are about KPop Demon Hunters); no Reddit posts about it; the official site admits there are no tutorial videos yet. The YouTube channel "KDP HunteR 2.0" with 392K subscribers has nothing to do with it; it's BeamNG truck videos. | Confirmed none |
| Arabic / Moroccan KDP communities | The recall card guessed it was distributed through Arabic-speaking communities, but there are only 0 Arabic reviews and no Arabic posts turned up. The supported small storefronts (eg/sa/ae) are just feature coverage. | Not confirmed |
| Paid acquisition | No ads found; the user base doesn't support a paid acquisition judgment either | No evidence |
5. Why it's rising (for now)
- Long-term demand plus a Q4 peak season: demand for KDP niche tools has been steady. Top extensions each have tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of users. A new tool that matches the search terms gets a slice of organic traffic.
- A price gap: at $4.99/month it's an "alternative" to Book Bolt's $23.99, BookBeam's $47 and Titans' $15–45. The free tier is usable on its own, so installing it costs nothing.
- Tight store-level linking: it's listed in the related slot of competitors like BookBeam, which have ~30k users. For an extension with no off-store promotion, this is almost the only ongoing source of new users.
- Fast iteration: it shipped up to 1.5.42 versions in three and a half months, and the feature list grew from BSR to AI trademark checks and cover design. The store page looks complete.
6. Differentiation
- The real differences are three things: (a) one extension packs 12 tools and directly uses Helium 10 / BookBeam feature names (Cerebro, Hunting Books); (b) low-priced subscription; (c) coverage of 22 Amazon storefronts, including small ones in the Middle East, Turkey, Poland and Sweden.
- These are not yet the reason it took off, because it hasn't taken off yet. Shipping a full feature set stopped being a barrier in year 2026: at least 8 AI-written KDP extensions appeared in the same period, and BowesPaz, which is completely free, launched only 3 days apart from it and has about 4 times its users. The small-storefront coverage is theoretically an open gap, but there is not a single piece of evidence of Arabic or Turkish users, and the store page is English only.
7. How visible it is
- Revenue is not public and it isn't on TrustMRR. No one on X, Reddit, TikTok or YouTube has posted about it, and no media has covered it. It only appears on store mirror sites like myext.info and crxsoso. It is still unknown to most people.
- Copycats: no one is directly cloning it, but the same template (Amazon in-page BSR toolbar, freemium) has spawned in batches over 2026 years, and new ones are still launching in November (Ocean KDP Lens 11-05, Shelf Scout 11-01). The space itself is crowded.
8. What to borrow
- "Turn expensive SaaS features into a cheap extension alternative, and borrow the veteran's feature names directly." Users understand what it does at a glance.
- A free quota counted per tool (2 deep scans per day, 5 history lookups) keeps people installed longer than a plain 7-day trial would.
- Use the search term as the name, then fight for a spot in the related slot of big competitors, for free organic traffic. But the ceiling is a few hundred to a thousand or two. To scale, you need YouTube tutorials or creators. KIP Scout, Titans and BowesPaz all grew this way, and it hasn't done it yet.
9. Uncertain
- Paid conversion: whether anyone pays is completely invisible.
- Whether the November acceleration came from seasonality, a change in store recommendation slots, or a Facebook or WhatsApp group forward that no search picked up cannot be told apart.
- The developer is an individual in Morocco. No Arabic or French KDP community ties or course funnels were found.
