Turning report cards into FIFA pack openings: a one-person Chrome extension, a video with 640k views before launch
What it is A free Chrome extension that turns grades from the Dutch school systems Magister and Somtoday into FIFA player cards. You can open packs, build squads, trade on a transfer market, and play penalty shootouts with friends.
Why it took off It turned a meme students had been doing by hand on TikTok for four years, "checking grades = opening a pack", into a button. Before launch, the creator used their own TikTok account to post demo videos and build demand. After that, they posted daily and built whatever the comments asked for.
BHow you could follow The Netherlands is already crowded. Try the same pack-opening extension for other countries' unified grade systems: Belgium's Smartschool, Poland's Librus, France's Pronote. Build demand first with demo videos on local TikTok before launching.
10,000 users · rating 4.28 (25)
In 2026 Oct 2, a TikTok account called @magisterultimateteam posted a video. Magister is the grade system Dutch secondary students log into every day. Opening a new grade didn't show the score right away. Instead it played like FIFA Ultimate Team: the pack shook, a player walked out through the tunnel, and only after the flip did you see how many points the subject scored. A comment with 2,662 likes copied the video's line: "'French is in there'—'WALKOUT'." The video reached 6 646k views, 54k likes and 31k shares in November. 8 days later the extension Magister Ultimate Team launched on Chrome, and a month later it had 10k users. It spent nothing on ads and made nothing. For anyone who wants to copy it, the valuable part is the playbook, and the grade systems outside the Netherlands that no one has touched yet.
Comments asking "when does it come out?"
The most-liked comments under that 10-02 video (TikTok, 11-06):
- "Why didn't this exist when I was in middle school" (6,030 likes), "why did it come out the year I'm in university";
- "This will make me study for tests 🙏" (6,259 likes);
- "All this for a 3.0" (250 likes). The Netherlands uses a 10-point scale, and 5.5 is a pass;
- "When is Somtoday coming?" (947 likes), with dozens of replies asking about the other grade system, Somtoday;
- "Can you buy points?" (679 likes), meaning the points you spend on packs in FIFA.
Demand was built before launch. Half the comments asked "when is it out", "what's it called" or "how do I install it".
What it is
A free Chrome extension (there's a Firefox version too, but almost all users are on Chrome). Once installed, it reads your grades in Magister or Somtoday and turns each subject into a player card, with higher scores giving better cards. Then comes a full FIFA Ultimate Team loop: pack opening, a full-screen walkout animation, squad building, chemistry, a transfer market (buying, selling, bidding), penalty shootouts with friends, and leaderboards.
The creator listed a personal gmail in the store. There's no website and no in-app purchases, and the backend runs on Cloudflare Workers. In one month the version went from launch to 6.10.
The meme is 2022 years old
Filming grade checks as pack-opening videos wasn't invented here. TikTok has had #magisterpackopening since 2022. Students cut their grade screenshots into FIFA pack openings. @magister.pack posted a 2022k-view video in January 67, and @magisterpackopening posted 76 videos in total, 123. In June 2026, someone first turned it into an extension (Cijfer Reveal voor Magister).
Why it blew up in October is probably two things hitting at once (inference): first-round test grades clustered in 9 and came out in October, and EA's FC 27 released at the end of September while pack-opening videos were trending. The evidence is that at least five similar extensions appeared the same month.
There's one more precondition. Magister and Somtoday cover nearly every secondary school in the Netherlands. Users are all in one country, one age group and one TikTok circle, and they're already used to installing extensions. Study Tools voor Magister, which also enhances these two systems, has 100k users, and Somtoday Mod has 70k (Chrome Web Store, 11-06).
How it took off
All the traffic came from its own TikTok account. There were no ads and no media coverage, and X showed zero discussion over the past two months.
| Timeline | Video | Data (TikTok, 11-06) |
|---|---|---|
| 10-02 | "Magister fifa packopener" demo, 8 days before launch | 646k views / 54k likes / 31k shares |
| 10-03 to 10-06 | A daily teaser | 50k to 133k views |
| 10-10 | Chrome launch (Firefox 10-07) | |
| 10-24 | Somtoday version pack opening | 617k views / 24k likes |
| 10-24, 10-29 | Install guide for iPad/iPhone and desktop | 63k and 16k views |
| 11-02 | Another pack opening | 306k views |
50 videos in a month, 4,985 followers. A few details are worth copying:
- Video first, launch second. The share count on the 10-02 video was about 60% of its like count, which is rare on TikTok. Students were forwarding it to class group chats. By the time the extension launched, people were already waiting for it.
- Ride old tags and search. The tags stayed the same: #magister #packopener #fifa #cijfers. Search "magister packopener" on TikTok and it's almost always at the top.
- Build what the comments ask for. When people called for Somtoday, it shipped a Somtoday version and made a dedicated video. When people asked how to install it, it filmed a tutorial.
- Go deeper and the videos never run out. Other versions only do "open a pack, see your score", which is a one-time hit. This one has a market, friend battles and shootouts, and every update becomes material for a new video. It also gives classmates a reason to pull each other in.
But to be clear, the deeper gameplay didn't leave the competition behind. CijferPacks, which only does pack opening, launched with a 0.3.7MB download and has 20k users, twice this one's 10-05 count. 11-04 Growth came from the meme and TikTok, not the features.
Who it's competing with
The Dutch market is already crowded (Chrome Web Store, 11-06):
| Add-ons | Launched | users | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|
| CijferPacks voor Magister, Somtoday en Osiris | 10-05 | 20k (11-01 or 10k) | Pack opening only for grades, with more coverage of the university system Osiris |
| Cijfer Reveal voor Magister | 6-12 | 10k | The first to ship as an extension |
| Somtoday Pack Opener | 10-07 | 6,000 (11-01 is 4,000) | Pack opening only in Somtoday locally, with users up by half in five days |
| Cijfer Reveal voor Somtoday | 10-06 | 2,000 | The description already says "build your eleven, play Squad Battles", so it's copying this one |
| CijferReveal voor SOMtoday en Magister | 10-10 | 1,000 | Simple pack opening |
| Somtoday Packs | 11-05 | Just launched | New copycats |
Six or seven in a month, and more keep coming. The window in the Dutch market has largely closed.
Where the money comes from
No. There are no in-app purchases, no website and no subscription, so there's no sign the creator plans to charge. Comments asking "can you buy points?" got 679 likes, which shows students don't mind paying inside this kind of game. But the users are secondary students aged 12 to 18. Taking money from minors through a Chrome extension means payment, refunds and parent complaints are all headaches. Whether it can charge, and how much, hasn't been validated by any comparable product.
The risk on the other side also shows up in the comments. Under one 10-24 video someone wrote "our school banned this too" (82 likes, without saying whether the extension or the grade display was blocked). School-managed computers can block extensions, and a single page change in Magister or Somtoday could break it overnight.
If it were you
B: Skip the Netherlands. Try another country or another grade system. One person can build it in a few weeks, but be ready for it to earn nothing.
This playbook can travel. Many countries have a national grade system that all secondary students log into daily, and students are already installing extensions for them (Chrome Web Store, 11-06): Belgian Flanders' Smartschool (Smartschool++ 30k users, Smartschool Grid 20k), Poland's Librus (LibrusPro 20k), France's Pronote and Ecole Directe (Ecole Directe Plus Unblock 30k, Better Pronote 4,000), and the US's Schoology (Schoology Plus 200k). On these systems, the Chrome Web Store doesn't show a "pack opening for grades" extension yet. Commenters under the Dutch videos also asked about Smartschool, Canvas, Brightspace and Eduarte. Belgian students speak Dutch and can see these videos, so demand will likely spill over there first.
Who it's for: Developers who live in that country, went to or still attend secondary school there, and can cut short videos. It also suits anyone who wants to practice the "build demand on TikTok before launch" playbook on a small project and grow an audience.
Who it's not for: Anyone who wants subscription revenue, anyone who doesn't speak the local language or know the student memes, and anyone without a real account on that grade system who can't debug the pages.
How to build it: Start with the smallest thing: turn new grades on the results page into a pack-opening animation, running locally, uploading no grades at all (parents and schools care most about this). Swap the cards, teams and terms for what local students know (Polish and French students play FC too, grade scales differ by country, so the card rating algorithm has to change with them). Once it runs, add collections, friends and a leaderboard, and find new material for videos.
How to get users: Follow its rhythm: open a TikTok account before the extension is listed, post demo videos, tag them with local "check grades" terms and #packopening; make whatever the comments ask for and film it; on listing day post an install tutorial, with a separate video for mobile users.
Timing: This kind of joke follows grade-release season and FC's hype. Aim to ship before the next wave of grade releases. The end of the winter semester in each country (December to January) is one such point. Wait too long and someone from this Dutch batch of creators will have translated their extension into another language.
Signs you've misread it: ① Your demo video has been up a week or two, gets only tens of thousands of views, and nobody in the comments asks what it's called or how to install it. That means students in this country don't get the joke; don't force it. ② Schools or the grade systems officially start blocking extensions en masse, or issue statements that they violate terms of use. ③ User counts for these Dutch extensions fall over a month or two. That means it was a passing wave; once the novelty wears off, it's gone, and you'd only catch one wave in another country too.
One line for everyone building products: Find the rituals people already perform by hand on TikTok, and turn them into a button. Before you list, let the videos build demand for you.

Magister Ultimate Team(Chrome,pjmedifangackgpgacmngocmjoimjbpj)
Research date 2026-11-06. Data from our chromestore database (item / item_snap / related, from 2026-11-01), googleplay database, TikHub (TikTok accounts and search), Jina web search, Mozilla AMO API, x-radar.
One line
A Chrome extension built by a Dutch high school student: it reads grades from Magister / Somtoday and turns each subject into an FIFA Ultimate Team-style player card, with pack opening (including a fullscreen walkout animation), squads, chemistry, a transfer market, penalty battles against friends and a leaderboard. Free, no in-app purchases, no website; the developer is an individual Gmail account ([email protected]), and the backend runs on Cloudflare Workers (the permissions list mut-api.magisterultimateteam.workers.dev).
Verdict
It didn't invent the category. It's one part of a productization wave of an old joke among Dutch high schoolers: since 2022, TikTok has had #magisterpackopening. Students filmed checking grades as FIFA pack openings (e.g. @magister.pack, a single post with 67k views, 2022-01; @magisterpackopening 123 with 76 videos). In 2026 someone turned it into an extension (Cijfer Reveal voor Magister). From 9 to October it exploded on TikTok, and in early October four or five pack-opening extensions appeared at once.
Magister Ultimate Team (MUT) reached 10k users thanks to two things:
- Warm up on TikTok before launch: the "Magister fifa packopener" demo video from account 2026-10-02 got 646K views, 54K likes and 31K shares. That was 8 days before the Chrome launch (10-10) and 5 days before the Firefox launch (10-07). In between, it kept posting teasers like "laatste update voor de publicatie". Demand was already built up by launch day.
- Posting high-frequency videos + turning "opening packs" into a game you can keep playing: 50 videos in one month, 10-24 more with 617k views (Somtoday version), 11-02 with 306k; the product shipped to v6.10 within a month, adding a transfer market, friends, chemistry, and penalty shootouts, giving classmates reasons to pull each other in and keep coming back.
But it is not the leader: over the same period, CijferPacks (listed 10-05) already had 20k users, and Cijfer Reveal voor Magister (listed in June) had 10k. The recall claim that "the same category has only 800–2 thousand users, so it's already the leader" and "same developer portfolio" are both wrong (see below).

Almost a post a day, tagged #magister #somtoday #packopener #fifa #ogmagister. Share counts are very high (on the 10-02 post, shares/likes ≈ 0.58), which suggests it was passed around in classmates' group chats.
- Rides TikTok search and the old tag (verified): searching "magister packopener" and "cijfers packopening" on TikTok, the top results are almost all its videos; it plugged into the #magisterpackopening joke that has existed since 2022.
- User-made videos (partly verified): a pack-opening video by @owenhgz0 10-24 with 305k views appears in "magister packopener" search (no caption; which extension was used is unverified); web search finds thank-you videos like "Dankjewel Magister ultimate team".
- Chrome Store "related" cross-links (verified): MUT's detail page lists related extensions such as CijferPacks, Somtoday Pack Opener and Cijfer Reveal; similar tools link to each other.
- Tutorials lower the barrier (verified): 10-24 and 10-29 tutorials (including iPad/iPhone).
- No ads, press coverage, X discussion (x-radar: 0 posts in the last 60 days) or Reddit found.
Why it took off
- The joke was already there: Dutch high schoolers treating grade checks as pack openings had been an old TikTok joke for 4 years; the extension just automated it. Magister/Somtoday covers nearly every Dutch secondary school, so the users are naturally concentrated.
- Timing (inferred, not verified): October is usually when Dutch secondary schools run their first round of tests and grades come out in a rush. EA FC 27 launched at the end of September, and FUT pack-opening content is hot (lots of FC27 pack-opening videos show up in TikTok search). 9–October, with this wave of "pack opener" extensions appearing at the same time, is the evidence.
- Build demand on TikTok before launch: hit products in 10-02 had people waiting before they shipped.
- Deeper product: rivals only do "open packs and see grades" as a one-off; MUT built a sustainable FUT-style game (collections, market, friend battles, leaderboard), which gave a reason to retain users and invite classmates. But CijferPacks, which only does pack opening, has more users, so depth isn't the main driver of acquisition; TikTok hits are.
Differentiation
Compared with rivals, MUT is the only one with a full Ultimate Team game loop (transfer market, friends, chemistry, fullscreen penalties, walkout animation; package size 124–284MiB, iterated to v6.10 in a month). That makes its videos look better and gives it new content to keep posting, plus a reason to share. Is that why it took off? Partly. Acquisition mainly came from TikTok hits and the wave of the joke; the deeper gameplay provided video material and retention. Going by user counts, depth did not let it pull ahead of the lighter CijferPacks.
Visibility and revenue
- No in-app purchases, no website, no pricing. The store listing is not the seller's own; nothing shows that it takes money.
- It only circulates in the Dutch secondary school TikTok scene. No media, no X, no TrustMRR. It counts as a small-circle buzz.
- Copycats are already here: since October, at least 6 similar extensions have appeared, and 11-05 has also launched Somtoday Packs. Cijfer Reveal is copying its team-plus-competition angle.
Takeaways
- Find a TikTok user habit that already exists (a ritual people are doing by hand) and productize it. Post a demo video before launch to gauge demand.
- It piggybacks on a compulsory, boring platform (the school grading system) and adds an entertainment layer. The users are highly concentrated and spread fast by word of mouth.
- One person on Cloudflare Workers can build a light social game with a marketplace and friends.
Uncertain
- User count is shown at a single point (10k), so it's unclear whether it grew over the past week. Ratings went from 24 to 25 (11-04 to 11-06), and growth has already slowed.
- No data for the early user curve (10-10 to 10-31).
- Unverified what iPad/iPhone runs on (a web version?).
- Unverified which extension user videos such as @owenhgz0 use.
- Unknown risk of being banned or delisted for violating Magister/Somtoday terms. No revenue, and unknown whether the author will monetize.
- The recall card says CijferReveal and others are one developer's matrix. No evidence: the privacy pages sit under different accounts (cijferpacks, Cijferreveal, jonathaniserweer-design), and they look like different authors.
