A free, unlimited WhatsApp number exporter: 5-star reviews, only 8 people a day
What it is A Chrome extension that exports contacts and group members from WhatsApp Web to Excel, CSV, or vCard in one click. Free and unlimited, data stays on your computer. Advanced filters and CRM formats cost a one-time $3–20.
Why it hasn't taken off It hasn't really taken off. Rivals only let you export 10–30 contacts for free; this one is unlimited, so every review is 5 stars and people stick around. But it ranks only #7 to #10 on long-tail store keywords. For the core terms it's not in the top 10, and it gets about seven or eight people a day from organic search.
CHow you could do it Stop building WhatsApp export extensions. Take its approach (free for the core action, a one-time fee for heavy features, minimal permissions, offline enrichment of number details) to Telegram, LINE, or Discord, where the market isn't saturated yet, and accept card payments.
559 users · rating 5.0 (13)
Tooly is a Chrome extension that exports contacts and group members from WhatsApp Web to Excel, CSV, or vCard in one click. It's free, with no limit on entries, and the data never leaves your computer. It was built by a front-end engineer in Jakarta as a side project. The work is detailed, and all 13 of its reviews are 5 stars. But its category on the Chrome Web Store has 60 similar extensions with roughly 380k users combined. Four months after launch it has 559 users, adding about seven or eight a day. This piece covers why it keeps people, why it can't pull new ones in, and whether you should enter this category.
One Russian review
In Oct 2026 27, a user named Lusha left a review in Russian: "Great! I downloaded 1,300 contacts from WhatsApp that weren't saved on my phone. All free, took less than a minute."
The author pinned this review to the top of the tooly.contact homepage. Seven more sit alongside it in English, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish, all saying roughly the same thing. Samson Oke, a Nigerian user (Aug 6): "This is the only extension that lets me export all my contacts for free. Unlike the others online that only give you 10 or 20." KJG, a Japanese user (Jul 25): "I tried a bunch of similar tools, and most got stuck at 10 to 30 entries. This one just worked as soon as I installed it. I wonder why it's still so unknown."
That last part is true.
What it is
WhatsApp itself can only export a single chat's history. It has no way to export contacts or group members. People who run businesses, manage communities, or switch phones have to copy numbers from a 300-person group one by one or install an extension. The whole category exists to fill a gap the official app doesn't address.
Tooly installs in Chrome. Once you open WhatsApp Web, you can select groups, contacts, or people you've chatted with and export them to a spreadsheet. It goes a step further than rivals: for each number, it works offline out who the country is, the time zone, the local time for that person right now, the likely language, the original carrier, and whether it's a mobile or landline. Those fields go into the export. The sample sheet on the site shows an Indonesian number, with "Telkomsel, local time 2:14 pm, good time to message" written next to it.
The paid tier is called Premium. It filters by country, account type (business or personal), and time, and generates import formats for Google Contacts and HubSpot / Zoho / Salesforce in one click, plus JSON export. Pricing is $3 per month, $12 per year, or $20 lifetime, all one-time payments with no auto-renewal.
The author, Joshua Galilea, lists an address in Cimahi, West Java, in the store, and his personal site describes him as a Web3 front-end engineer at a fintech company in Jakarta. The extension launched in Jul 6, was updated in Oct 14 to 1.3.2, and its store page has been translated into 52 languages.
Why it keeps users
The old problems with this category are already spelled out in user reviews: rivals offer only 10 to 30 free exports, or cap them per day, or charge a subscription just to export. Many extensions ask for permission to access "all websites". Lots of "export tools" are really bulk-messaging tools with an export bolted on, which makes users afraid of getting banned.
Tooly flips all of that: free unlimited export, with every detail column included for free; read-only, never sends any messages; requires only WhatsApp Web access (plus Google sign-in and its own domain); works without logging in. It also has a dedicated page, "Best WhatsApp Contact Export Tools Compared," that lists rivals' prices and permission scopes in a table. Every cell can be checked against the store pages, and it criticizes the "five-star unlock" model.
The result: all 13 reviews are 5 stars. 13 ratings from 596 users, about 2.2%, roughly in line with WA Contacts Extractor, a similar tool (60k users, 1,070 ratings, about 1.8%). The numbers show no sign of review manipulation.
Why it can't pull in users
The user curve is flat. Sep 1: 109 users. Oct 5: 309 users. Nov 6: 559 users. Nov 7: 596 users (from the third-party stats site extops.dev and the Chrome Web Store's daily figures). September averaged about 6 users a day, and October onward about 8 a day, with no spike on any day. That is typical of organic store search traffic.
In the store search, it only ranks on long-tail terms: in Nov 6, it was #7 for "whatsapp contacts vcard", #8 for "contact exporter whatsapp web", and #10 for "whatsapp number exporter". The terms with real volume, like "export whatsapp contacts" and "whatsapp contact exporter", don't show it in the top 10. Its Portuguese, Spanish, Indonesian, and Russian equivalents don't show it in the top 10 either. The store ranks mainly by installs and review count, so older products with tens of thousands of users hold the top spots, and a new 5-star small extension can't break in.
The author clearly knows this. From Oct 16 to 21, he built about 60 pages on the official site in one go: tutorial pages in 8 languages (English, Portuguese, Spanish, Indonesian, German, French, Turkish, Russian), a CSV-to-vCF tool, and the comparison table above. Two to three weeks later, searching "export whatsapp contacts to excel" on general search still doesn't show tooly.contact in the top 20 results, which belong to paid desktop software like iToolab and Wondershare. Daily new installs went from 6 to 8.
No content about it on YouTube, TikTok, X, or Reddit, and no paid acquisition found.
Where the money comes from
Barely any revenue yet. Premium only accepts crypto: USDC, USDT, ETH, BTC, SOL. The payment page gives you an address and QR code, and you transfer from your own wallet. Checking the public payment address on the Ethereum mainnet, up to Nov 6 there was only one 12 USDT payment (Oct 14, exactly the one-year price, so it's impossible to tell whether it was a real order or the author's own test), plus a phishing transfer faking USDT on the same day. Other chains were not checked (estimate: total revenue in the tens of dollars).
The core users of this category are small merchants in India, Indonesia, Brazil, and Nigeria, and most reviews come from there. Asking them to pay $3 with a crypto wallet is a much higher barrier than the price itself. This is probably Tooly's biggest weakness in monetization, and it shows the author is building this as a side project the way a Web3 engineer would.

Figures from the Chrome Web Store, Nov 7. Extensions with WhatsApp plus export, extract, or contact-saver in the name that are currently listed: 60.
This table shows two things. First, the demand is real, with several products at tens of thousands of users. Second, "free and unlimited" isn't unique to Tooly, since others claimed it earlier; doing this selling point better isn't enough to move it from #10 to #1. WASendly, the fastest grower in the same period, went the opposite way: stacked features, covered many languages, and added bulk messaging.
If it were you
In one line: don't build another WhatsApp contact exporter extension. The demand in this niche is real, but 60 identical products are crowded into the store, and rankings are locked by older products with tens of thousands of users. Tooly shows that a good product plus good word of mouth only brings in 8 new users a day. What's worth learning are its specific tactics, not this category.
Who it's for: indie developers who want to build small tools that the platform doesn't offer officially but many people need, and who are willing to get the details right. You can apply Tooly's approach to platforms that aren't crowded yet, like Telegram Web, LINE, Instagram DMs, Discord server members, or local chat and e-commerce backends in various countries. Search the store first, and only start when there are fewer than 10 similar products and the top one has under 10k users.
Who it's not for: anyone who wants to compete head-on on the WhatsApp export keyword. The top products' installs and review counts were built over several years, and a new extension climbing up from long-tail terms, at Tooly's pace, would take years.
How to build it: give the core action for free (unlimited exports), and charge a one-time fee only for things that a small number of heavy users need (filters, CRM formats). Add value to each row of data with information computed offline (country, time zone, carrier) so it costs no server money. Ask only for the one website permission you need, and state it clearly. For payments, use card-accepting providers like Stripe or Paddle, and if you target emerging markets, offer local payment methods instead of crypto only.
How to get users: on the first day of listing, write the store title as the phrase users actually search, and translate the listing into the main markets' languages. On the official site, make a comparison table against competitors listing only facts you can verify on the store page (price, permissions, usage limits). This table is both the page that persuades users and an entry point for search engines. For your first users, you need to go to where your target group gathers yourself (forums for community operators, comment sections of phone-migration tutorial videos); don't count on organic store traffic.
When to get in before others: there's no window in the WhatsApp export niche; it's already full. If you build on another platform, the window depends on when that platform adds its own export feature; the earlier the better.
Signs you got this wrong: the 60 multilingual pages Tooly put up in October start working over the next one or two months, with daily installs rising from 8 to dozens or hundreds, or it starts making noticeable revenue after switching to card payments. That would mean a newcomer who seriously works on SEO and word of mouth can still break into this niche, and this assessment is too pessimistic.

Bottom line
This isn't a product that "broke out"; it's a seriously built small extension in a crowded red ocean, slowly climbing through long-tail store search: 4 months, 559→596 users, seven or eight new users a day. Its selling points, "free and unlimited + read-only + purely local + only reads WhatsApp Web", hit the most common complaint in the category (other tools charge after 10–30 exports), which is why its rating is all 5 stars. But competitors shout the same message, its growth can't match WASendly from the same period, and it only takes crypto. So far there's no signal that it will get bigger.

The recall card's "about 5x, steadily climbing" is accurate, but the base is only just over a hundred, so the absolute numbers are very small.
2. Competitors (a very crowded niche)
Extensions in our library with WhatsApp/WA and export/extract/contact saver in the name, currently listed: 60, totaling about 380k users (chromestore library, 2026-11-07). The main ones:
| Product | Users / review count | Launched | How it differs from Tooly |
|---|---|---|---|
| WAExport(WADesk)WA Chat Backup | 80,000 / 7,253 | 2024-03 | Exports contacts + chat backup (HTML/media). Free tier with daily quota; paid via activation code. Featured on the store. |

| WAXP | 20,000 / 115 | 2020-09 | Long-running, 3.0 rating. Featured; ranks #1 for "contacts exporter" in the store. |
| WAPPMASTER Contacts Extractor | 20,000 / 1,014 | 2024-03 | Has paid pricing, but Reddit users recommend it as "free, unlimited for a while". |
| WASendly(addonschrome) | 7,000 / 118 | 2026-01 | Fastest-growing new entrant in its cohort: 6 days, +1,000. Full bundle of export + chat backup + bulk send, listed in 52 languages. |
| WAPlus / WATools | ~300,000 (figure from Tooly's comparison page) | — | A privacy/productivity suite; export is just one feature. |
| Small clones from the same cohort | WapiPro 723 (2026-04), WhatsApp Contacts Downloader — Free & Unlimited 589 (2026-05, shouts the same "free and unlimited" pitch, and launched before Tooly), Waplify 1,000 (2026-05), Mastros 626 (2026-06), WA Contacts Extractor (nejnih…) 362 (2026-07), 1net 54 (2026-08), ChatSheet 0 (2026-11-03), Cardume 0 (2026-11-04) | Names and selling points are basically the same. | |
| Big-company features | WhatsApp itself has no contact or group-member export (only per-chat "export chat"). | — | This gap is the reason the whole category exists. |
| Desktop software | iToolab, Wondershare MobileTrans, softaken, and others | Years | Paid desktop software that holds the top spots for Google queries like "export whatsapp contacts to excel". |
Takeaway: the demand is real (Meta doesn't build it, and several products in the tens of thousands of users exist), but the pitch is highly commoditized and new entrants keep arriving.
3. How users found it
| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed? |
|---|---|---|
| Chrome Web Store search (long-tail terms) | In store English search, it ranks #7 for "whatsapp contacts vcard", #8 for "contact exporter whatsapp web", #10 for "whatsapp number exporter". It's not in the top 10 for the core terms "export whatsapp contacts" or "whatsapp contact exporter", nor in the top 10 for the Portuguese/Spanish/Indonesian/Russian core terms (store search pages scraped via r.jina.ai, 2026-11-06). The title is stuffed with keywords: "Contact & Number Exporter for WhatsApp Web — CSV, Excel & vCard". The listing is in 52 languages (the French title was indexed by Brave). | Partly confirmed. Main-channel inference is the strongest, but rankings are low, so volume is small. |
| The store's "Related extensions" slot | In our library it appears in the related recommendations for WaSpeed (30k), WA Self Sender (10k), Message Sender (6 thousand), and WASendly bulk sending (2 thousand) (chromestore related table). | Confirmed to exist; unknown how much traffic it brings |
| Website SEO | The sitemap has about 60 pages: tutorial pages in 8 languages (English, Portuguese, Spanish, Indonesian, German, French, Turkish, Russian), a "Best WhatsApp Contact Exporter, Compared" comparison page to capture competitor traffic, and a csv-to-vcf utility page. Almost all were published within the same few days, 2026-10-16 to 10-21 (sitemap lastmod). But Brave searches for "export whatsapp contacts to excel" and "free whatsapp contact exporter unlimited" show no tooly.contact in the top 20; searching "tooly.contact" only returns store pages. Growth after mid-October slowed from 6 users/day to 8 users/day. | Done; too early to see results after two or three weeks. |
| YouTube / TikTok / Reddit / X | No evidence found for the "YouTube review" mentioned in the recall card. Brave search for YouTube, TikHub search for TikTok, and x-radar search for X (120 days, 0 posts) found no content covering Tooly. Reddit blocked 403, and Brave search for Reddit returned nothing. The store listing has a promo video (made by the developer). | None found |
| Prompted reviews | The homepage shows 8 multilingual reviews (English/Japanese/Russian/Portuguese/Spanish) with 5-star ratings. Its comparison page in turn criticizes rivals for "leave a 5-star review to unlock". Whether the extension has a review-request popup was not verified. A 2.2% rating rate is normal. | Not verified |
| Paid acquisition | No evidence. It only accepts cryptocurrency, priced at $3–20, which can't support paid acquisition. | Inferred: none. |
4. Why it climbed (and why it stays)
- Real demand, big players don't build it: WhatsApp has no feature to export group members or contacts. People running businesses, managing communities, or switching phones have to install extensions. The top of this category has several products with tens of thousands of users.
- The free tier hits the biggest pain point: most rivals are free only up to 10–30 contacts, capped per day, or require a subscription just to export. Tooly exports unlimited for free, with full detail columns. Reviews on its site almost all say "other tools only give 10–20, this one is unlimited" (Samson Oke, KJG, Lusha exported 1,300 numbers). That's why every rating is 5 stars and users stick around.
- Trust as a selling point: read-only, fully local, site permission limited to WhatsApp Web (plus Google sign-in and its own domain), no bulk sending, so it won't get you banned. In a category full of bulk-send tools that ask for "all websites" permission, this is a sensible differentiator.
- More refined product than same-priced peers: offline lookup of each number's country, timezone, local time, carrier, and line type; presets for Google Contacts and HubSpot/Zoho/Salesforce; WhatsApp Business labels; export history and pinning. This is front-end engineering craft, not the template cloning seen in rivals.
- Diligent store optimization: keyword-stuffed titles, a 52-language listing, and roughly 60 multilingual SEO pages published within two or three weeks in October.
5. Differentiation, and whether it's the reason for the growth
- Differentiation: "free and unlimited + read-only, no bulk sending + minimal permissions + number detail". Paid tier only sells filters, CRM presets, and JSON. One-time payment, no auto-renewal.
- It explains why users stay and why reviews are good, but it doesn't explain acquisition. "Free and unlimited" isn't unique to Tooly (WhatsApp Contacts Downloader — Free & Unlimited 2026-05 uses the same pitch, and Reddit users recommend WAPPMASTER as free and unlimited too). Store search mainly weighs installs and rating count, and Tooly can't crack the top 10 for core terms, so the differentiation didn't turn into traffic. WASendly, which entered in the same period, runs a full-feature bundle with multiple languages and grew 1,000 in a week, far faster than Tooly's +250 in a month.
- It only accepts cryptocurrency (USDC/USDT/ETH/BTC/SOL, see /payments). That's a high barrier for this category's core users (small merchants in India, Indonesia, Brazil, Nigeria), and is probably its biggest monetization weakness. It also suggests the author has a Web3 background and is building this as a side project.
6. How many people have seen it
- Revenue: not public. It only accepts cryptocurrency, and it can't be verified on sites like TrustMRR.
- Media / X / Reddit / YouTube: no content mentioning it was found.
- Copycats: this category is already a crowd of clones (11-03 ChatSheet and 11-04 Cardume just launched with the same positioning). No evidence anyone is copying Tooly specifically, but its selling points and comparison-page format are easy to replicate.
- Judgment: few people know about it yet. But the category itself is already crowded, so "the fewer who know, the more worth watching" doesn't hold here: it's this product that's unknown, not the opportunity.
7. What others can learn
- In a commoditized category, turn rivals' limits (10–30 contact cap, subscription, all-websites permission, review-gated unlocks) into a comparison table users can verify themselves, and use it as SEO content at the same time.
- Give the full core action (export) for free, and sell only what power users need (filters, CRM presets, JSON), as one-time payment with no renewals, which keeps reviews high.
- Add value to "export numbers" with detail computed offline (country, timezone, local time, carrier) at zero server cost.
- Lesson: accepting only crypto makes conversion hard among small merchants in emerging markets. When core store terms don't rank, even good differentiation doesn't bring volume.
8. Still unclear
- Number of paying users and revenue (only crypto accepted; the on-chain addresses are public on the /payments page and could be checked, but were not checked this time).
- Whether the extension has a review-request popup, and whether the 8 reviews on the site match the 13 reviews in the store.
- Whether the SEO pages published in October will bring traffic later (effect not yet clear after two or three weeks).
- User country distribution (reviews come from Japan, Russia, Brazil, Colombia, India, suggesting mainly emerging markets).
