The official side didn't ship an Android version, so he built one the next day. How DSHA got 3000 stars among a dozen-plus peers, and how it was later overtaken

What it is An Android app that packages DeepSeek's agent framework together with a full Linux environment. No ROOT, no command line: install it on your phone and run an agent, which can even operate the phone itself.

Why it took off The official agent framework blew up but had no Android version. It created the repo the next day, became the most complete and most frequently updated of a dozen-plus peers, and then used Bilibili videos and QQ groups to lock in Chinese Android players.

CHow you can follow Don't build an Android version of dsh again. Copy its playbook: watch for newly open-sourced, desktop-only hits, and within 72 hours build the one-click package for the platform that's missing, or within the dsh ecosystem specialize in the backup/migration and domestic-phone compatibility nobody has done well.

Grade C: this track was already crowded with a dozen-plus projects in August. Now dsh-Go, with 11k stars, brand recognition and press coverage, is the head, so following it won't earn many stars. What you can learn is the playbook of "platform spillover: be first to ship the mobile one-click package." Whispers in small circles

The day after DeepSeek open-sourced its agent framework DeepSeek Harness, a developer created a repo that packed a whole Ubuntu and dsh into a 279MB Android installer. 84 days later it had 3,053 stars and about 140k APK downloads. It is the most complete project in the "run dsh on your phone" track, but since Oct 30 it has no longer been the hottest one. Below: how it got started, why it was overtaken, and whether you can still win stars here.

The person who created the repo the second day

On Aug 2026 '13, DeepSeek open-sourced its official agent framework DeepSeek Harness (dsh), similar to Claude Code. It passed 95k stars in two days and reached 274k stars by early November. It was written for desktop Linux, with no official Android version. The v29 desktop release in Sep 0.2 only shipped for macOS and Windows.

On the afternoon of Aug 14, GitHub user qiannianhuanxiang created DSHA. The first sentence of the README states the problem it solves: dsh "was written for glibc Linux, and running it directly on Android hits a pile of issues: native modules won't compile, link(2) is blocked by SELinux, the sandbox won't start, and the frontend is laid out for desktop." His approach was blunt: bundle a complete Ubuntu 24.04 arm64, Node, and dsh, all offline, into the APK. Install it, tap once, enter your model key in the web page, and it works. No ROOT, no Termux, not a single command.

On Aug 22, he posted a video from his Bilibili account br2x titled "One-click install! DeepSeek's founder just released a powerful tool! Run it on your phone without root — DSHA, customizable with your own plugins," with 51.7k views (Bilibili, BV18F8U6aEbG). The title borrowed the DeepSeek founder's name, but this is a third-party project.

The curve has three phases: before early October, 20–30 stars per day; from Oct 14 it jumped to 80–120 per day; after Oct 29 it fell back to 45–60. The lift in the middle lines up with two events: on Sep 29 the official side shipped the v0.2 desktop version (reported by Sina and 36 36Kr), bringing in a wave of new users; DSHA followed on Oct 9 by bundling dsh 0.2. But no evidence was found for who directly drove the traffic (inference).

The most telling figure is downloads relative to stars: APK downloads are about 45 times the star count. Most open-source projects have many stars and few users; this one is the reverse, meaning people really installed it on their phones. The issues show who they are: someone reported "570 sessions can't be backed up" (#214,10-29), someone installed it on a budget vivo U3x with an older kernel (#206), and someone on Xiaomi HyperOS had their agent tap another app only to be blocked by a system window (#212). Most users aren't developers; they're students and players who want to use an agent on their phone.

The same thing, at least a dozen people building it

The Android port of dsh is one of the most-crowded opportunities right after it went open source. A tech blog post from Sep 6 (blog.mushroom.cv) surveyed four routes and noted that "the repos were created between 08-13 and 08-16" — the survey didn't even list DSHA yet, so it wasn't a top project in early September.

DSHA stood out from this pile not because of any exclusive feature. "No ROOT, no Termux" was being claimed by at least five peers at the same time, and woaiys3 had earlier made "let the agent operate the phone." It won on three things:

  • Most complete. Others either required Termux knowledge, required a second computer, or offered a stripped-down environment. DSHA is a full glibc Ubuntu: apt works, native modules compile, and upstream plugins run without changes. The package is as large as 279MB, but for a user who just wants it to run, that's not a problem.
  • Maintained like a product. 68 days, 28 releases; in late August it shipped almost one version a day. The README has a selling point line: "when something breaks, it tells you what broke." It offers component self-checks, on-demand repair, automatic backup, and a separate emergency environment, and when a plugin fails to start it names the culprit. Beginners who would otherwise give up when installation failed were caught by these features to a large degree (inference).
  • A Chinese community. A Bilibili video, two QQ groups (in mid-October the README was changed to "Group 2 is full, please join Group 1"), Afdian posts offering "beta builds for those who donate to join the group," and a listing in the dsh community's launcher section. Almost no presence on X or in tech media; its audience is entirely inside the Chinese Android player community.

On how it sustains maintenance: the top of the README lists three sponsors, all AI model relay services, one with an invite link. Once users install dsh, their next step is to configure a model key, and relay services sell exactly that. The original author has already transferred the repo to the DSH-APP organization, and another contributor, ym2025szz, now maintains the releases.

On Oct 30, it was overtaken

dsh-Go was created on Oct 25 and went public beta on 30. The same day it took first place on Trendshift's all-language daily chart, gained 6k stars in 11 days, with a single-day peak of +2,198. It overlaps broadly with DSHA (it also runs the full environment locally), but adds remote-controlling a PC, sharing conversations, a plugin marketplace, and a desktop pet that writes code and does backflips. More importantly, its author is the creator of dsh-TUI (6,990 stars), a terminal plugin dsh officially recommended, so he already has a reputation. Zhidongxi and NetEase both wrote about it, and AI accounts on X reposted it.

DSHA's daily star growth began dropping right on that day, from around 100 to around 50. Its last formal release was in Oct 22; commits have continued since (11-05 still pushing), and the issue tracker holds 34 open problems, mostly backup migration and permission bugs in the new version.

This shows one thing: within a platform-spillover track, going first and being the most complete only buys you about two months of lead. The real ceiling is visibility, and visibility goes to whoever has a name when they enter the field.

If it were you

One judgment: there is something to learn here, but don't build "dsh on Android" again. This track was already crowded with a dozen-plus projects in August. Now there is a head with 11k stars, name recognition and press coverage, and another clone won't earn many stars.

What's worth learning is the playbook: when a desktop-only open-source hit appears, be first to ship a "mobile / no-environment one-click package" and catch the platform's spillover traffic. DSHA created its repo the second day; dsh-Go came two and a half months later yet overtook it on reputation. Both paths show the window for this kind of opportunity is measured in days.

Who it suits: people who can package runtime environments (proot, containers, Electron, WebView shells) and can ship a working version within 48 hours of a platform going viral; ideally with some voice of their own on domestic channels like Bilibili, QQ groups and Xiaohongshu.

Who it doesn't suit: people who want to polish slowly before releasing; and anyone with no name in the target platform's community. If a well-known author shows up in the track, you'll be pushed down like DSHA was.

How to do it: watch GitHub for projects open-sourced recently that gained tens of thousands of stars in a day or two but support only one environment. The next one might be an agent framework or desktop tool from another model company. Build the version for the platform it's missing, make it "install and tap once to use," don't worry about package size, and put self-checks, repair and backup in the first screen of the README as selling points. If you want to stay within the dsh ecosystem, the gaps in dsh-Go and DSHA show up in their issue trackers: backup migration, older device compatibility, and accessibility control on domestic systems (HyperOS, vivo). A small, focused tool or plugin for these has a better shot than yet another launcher.

How to get users: on the day you release, get into the platform's official community and plugin listing pages; post a short Bilibili video with a title that states it clearly: "No root, one-click install, run XX on your phone"; open a QQ group to collect feedback. When the group fills up, that's the best word-of-mouth screenshot.

When it's worth it: when you can ship a first installable version within 72 hours of a new platform going open source, and reach the fifth release within two weeks.

What would show you read it wrong: if DeepSeek officially shipped an Android version before 2027, this kind of third party would all fade out together. Conversely, if DSHA's daily star growth recovers to 80 or above within a month after dsh-Go took off, it would mean the "most complete, most stable" positioning still has its own audience beyond the head, and following the "more stable one" can also win stars.

DSH-APP/DSHA research report: DeepSeek Harness Android launcher

Research day 2026-11-06. Data comes from our GitHub repo tracking (repo_profile / repo_day), the GitHub API (release downloads, commits, contributors), and public web pages (sources cited below).

One line

DSHA packs DeepSeek's official agent framework, DeepSeek Harness (dsh), together with a full Ubuntu 24.04 arm64 environment into one ~279MB APK. No root, no Termux. Install it and you can run the full dsh on your phone. The agent can also operate the phone through accessibility, direct ADB, and virtual displays. It took off because it rode the wave of DeepSeek Harness's platform-level surge (official repo at 2k stars after 95 days, now 274k stars). In a niche of "running dsh on Android" that had a dozen-plus players from day one, it became the heaviest, easiest-to-install, most frequently updated option, and it built a domestic Android following through Bilibili videos and a QQ group. But since 10-30, dsh-Go has clearly overtaken it.

The download-to-star ratio is about 45:1, which means people are really installing and using it, not just starring. The app also has its own update channel inside the app and on the dsha.cc website, so GitHub download counts understate actual use.

II. Competitors: at least a dozen-plus of the same thing, clustered between August 13 and 17

"Porting dsh to Android" was a direction the community swarmed into right after DeepSeek Harness went open source. A roundup on blog.mushroom.cv 9-06 says "the repo creation dates of four libraries cluster between 08-13 and 08-16" (source). That roundup didn't list DSHA at the time, which shows it was not yet a leader in early September.

3. Growth tactics (where users come from)

  1. Organic traffic from the platform event (confirmed): DeepSeek Harness was open-sourced 08-13, and within 2 days passed 95K stars (flowtivity), now at 274K stars; plugin libraries in the ecosystem routinely have tens of thousands of stars (awesome-dsh-plugin 22K, dsh-desktop 35K). DSHA's repo went up the next day and rode this wave. 9-29 the official v0.2 desktop app launched (Sina, Ifeng, and 36 氪 all covered it), bringing in another batch of new users; DSHA's daily star gains, after the built-in DSH 10-09, jumped from 0.2.0,10-14–20 to 30–80 120. The two events line up in time, but causation hasn't been verified.
  2. Bilibili video (confirmed, posted by the original author): Bilibili creator br2x (the original author, brxx / qiannianhuanxiang)08-22 posted "One-Click Install! Liang Wenfeng's Latest Powerful Tool! DSHA Runs on Your Phone Without Root, with Customizable Plugins", 51.7K views (BV18F8U6aEbG). The title trades on the name "Liang Wenfeng", but it's actually a third-party project.
  3. QQ groups + Afdian paid beta (confirmed): the README lists two QQ groups. 10-13 and 10-16 edited the README twice, with lines like "Group 2 is full, join Group 1" and "Old Group 1 has been expanded" (commit history). The Afdian page says "Donate to join the group for the beta build" (afdian.com/a/dsha_apk). The same page also promotes Bilibili's "Daidai Fish desktop pet" / dsh-pet, cross-referring with the desktop-pet crowd.
  4. Listings within the dsh ecosystem (confirmed): in issue #3, someone notified the maintainer that "your Android launcher DSHA has been added to the DSH Meme Hub launcher section" (08-16). On Reddit r/DeepSeek, someone wrote "Android launcher (DSHA) ships this plugin." It has also been picked up by aggregator sites like ai-tldr.dev, agentfilter.com, and SourceForge mirrors (most likely auto-scraped).
  5. Chinese SEO (confirmed, origin unknown): Baidu Library (kuku.baidu.com) has articles like "What is the dsha software? A complete guide..." and "What is the dsha mobile app? Android install tutorial and download channels". Someone is capturing search traffic. It's unclear whether the team wrote them.
  6. X / media (DSHA has almost none): our X corpus returns no DSHA results. Big X accounts (@MaxForAI, @aehyok, @NFT_Chen) and outlets like Zhidx and NetEase all cover dsh-Go, not DSHA.

Where the money comes from: they don't sell the software. Revenue comes from two streams: ① Afdian sponsorship / paid beta group access; ② three "sponsors" at the top of the README, all AI API relay stations (API-Zeno, Lvluo relay with an aff referral link, and Axis AI). After installing dsh, users must configure their own model API, which is exactly what relay stations sell, so DSHA's traffic is effectively sending customers to them. This is a common monetization pattern for Chinese open-source AI tools. No amounts are public.

4. Why it made the list

  • Hit a platform-level window: dsh was one of the hottest open-source agents on GitHub in 2026, yet the official project never shipped an Android version. Many people in China have only Android phones, or want an agent on the go (students, gamers), so the demand is real.
  • "Zero command line" done thoroughly: rivals mostly require installing Termux first, or a second computer (remote clients). DSHA packs the full Ubuntu rootfs, Node 24, pnpm, and offline dsh into the APK. Install it, tap once, and it runs. apt, native modules, and upstream plugins all work unchanged. The cost is a 279MB package, but for this audience "it actually runs" matters far more than package size. Among this group, its completeness is the highest tier.
  • Fast updates, treated like a product: 68 days, 28 releases. Self-checks and repairs, managed updates that trial-run before switching, automatic backups, an emergency environment, and plugin failures explained in plain language. The README reads like a product manual, and "tell you what broke, in plain words" is a selling point, reducing churn among beginners who can't get it installed.
  • Community and monetization, enough to sustain maintenance: both QQ groups are full, the paid beta runs on Afdian, relay sponsorships come in, the maintainer changed hands (ym2025szz took over), and the project keeps shipping updates.
  • Its ceiling is capped by dsh-Go: 10-30 dsh-Go launched with its author's reputation and press coverage and gained 6k stars in 11 days. DSHA's daily star gain over the same period dropped from around 100 to around 50. DSHA wins on "first mover plus completeness during 8–October," not on any unique moat.

5. Differentiation

  • Core differentiator: it takes the "container" route (proot / proroot plus a full glibc Ubuntu), not the "Termux bionic" or "remote control" routes. The result is the best compatibility: upstream plugins run as-is, apt works, and native modules compile. On top of that, the phone itself becomes the agent's hands (accessibility-based screen reading and tapping, built-in wireless ADB pairing without Shizuku, virtual displays, sensors), plus a lyric-style floating bar for AI output.
  • Is this why it took off?: only partly. "No root, no Termux, works right after install" is genuinely why users pick it (the Bilibili video title and the Baidu articles both lead with this), but at least five other projects were pushing the same message at the same time, woaiys3 had done "AI operating a phone" earlier, and dsh-Go also bundles Ubuntu. What really sets DSHA apart is completeness and iteration speed, plus Chinese community operations (Bilibili, QQ groups, Afdian), not any single feature no one else has.

6. Visibility and copycats

  • Visibility: it circulates within niche circles. DSHA itself hasn't been covered by mainstream tech outlets, and no big X account has written about it. Spread comes mainly from Bilibili (on the order of 50k views), QQ groups, and listings within the dsh ecosystem. Revenue is not public.
  • Copycats / head-on competitors: jackwener/DSH-Android (10-27 repo, 832 stars, slogan nearly copied), ccch1mneyyy/dsh-Go (10-25 repo, 11k stars, already ahead), moonoops/Droy (10-26). The category is already crowded.

VII. What to take away

  • When a big platform open-sources a hit that only supports desktop / Linux, shipping a "mobile / no-setup one-click package" right away captures the spillover traffic directly. In August 13–17 alone, more than a dozen such projects appeared in a single day, showing everyone sees this play.
  • When users are too lazy to type commands, bundling the whole runtime is fine even if the package is large. Making self-checks, repair, and backups a selling point sharply reduces the share of people who give up at install.
  • The monetization mix for Chinese open-source tools: Afdian paid beta + QQ groups + sponsorships and aff commissions from AI API relay stations. Relays sit right at the user's next step (configuring a model key).
  • A Bilibili title that borrows a famous name or an official brand, plus a video of 30 seconds, can bring in 50k views.

8. What's still uncertain

  • 10-14 daily star gains multiplied several times over. Which event drove it (new users from DSH v0.2 desktop, secondary spread on Bilibili or Douyin, or a particular listing) has no direct evidence.
  • Real download counts from the official site dsha.cc and the in-app update channel (web fetch timed out, not opened).
  • Afdian sponsor counts and relay sponsorship amounts are not public.
  • Whether the Baidu Library SEO articles were paid for by the team.
  • After being overtaken by dsh-Go, whether DSHA can hold its "full Ubuntu / most stable" position needs a few more weeks of data.
