A 401-star Chinese GEO tool: how many of those stars are real
What it is An open-source skill you install into AI assistants like Claude Code and Codex. It audits your website, asks Doubao, DeepSeek, and ChatGPT around, sees who the AI recommends and who it doesn't, then helps you write, publish, and recheck content.
Why it blew up It didn't really. Most of the stars and forks came from batch-registered new accounts (of the 268 forks, 164 accounts have already been banned by GitHub). Real exposure was limited to the author's own media, one tweet with 1,800 views, and a few navigation sites.
CHow you could follow it Don't build another eight-step all-in-one Chinese GEO skill. Go after the part it does poorly: a tool that automatically and repeatably samples and archives answers in the Doubao and Yuanbao apps, or a public experiment showing what you changed and how much the recommendation rate moved.
- Data (updated daily) · Repo created 2026-10-14 · 468 stars · 7 days +250

GEO Doctor (Fangx-AI/geo-doctor) is an open-source AI assistant skill that finds out why Doubao and DeepSeek don't recommend your product. Built 23 days ago, it has 401 stars on GitHub. But on Oct 23, its star count dropped from 156 back to 22. Going through its fork list shows that most of the curve was built from fake accounts, with only a handful of real users. Below: what it is, where the stars came from, whether this space still has room, and what to learn from it and avoid if you want to build a similar open-source project.
A simple "please give me a Star"
2026 Oct 15: Fang Xin (online handle 「方鑫三个金」) wrote two things in the 191nd entry on his personal site. One: Xiaohongshu cover images are finally no longer a headache. Two: he open-sourced Geo-doctor. The entry says: "I'm frantically learning GEO. I've already landed a few clients, but since I'm not confident in my results yet, I haven't taken any jobs." The last line: "If everyone could give me a Star, that'd be even better. I'd be very happy and deeply grateful."
Fang Xin makes content on WeChat Official Accounts, Douyin, and Bilibili, and also keeps an open-source repo documenting his one-person company. Its stars have climbed slowly day by day and have passed 700. GEO Doctor is a repo he created in Oct 14 and released as v20 in Oct 0.9.0.
What it is
A skill you install into AI assistants like Claude Code, Codex, Kimi Code, and WorkBuddy, plus an npx command-line tool and a local web dashboard. The README's front page says: "Make Doubao, DeepSeek, ChatGPT, and Claude willing to recommend your product." Installation is also simple: copy one sentence and send it to your AI:
Help me install this skill: github.com/Fangx-AI/geo-doctor/tree/master/skills/geo-doctor
Once installed, say "help me do GEO," and it runs eight steps: diagnosis → audit your website (can AI crawlers get in, is the body text in the raw HTML) → organize fact cards → generate a set of sample questions → ask Doubao, Yuanbao, Qwen, DeepSeek, and ChatGPT → compute a "competitor recommendation ranking" and your recommendation rate → write content in batches to fill the gaps → publish (your website and dev.to are auto-posted; for Zhihu and Juejin it fills in the article and you click publish yourself) → recheck two weeks later. If the repo is on GitHub, you can also turn on "autopilot": every Monday it samples and writes automatically and opens a PR for you to review.
It does one thing well: it insists you ask inside the apps yourself. The README explains: "The answers you see in the App are what your users see; API answers don't log in, mostly don't browse the web, and can differ from the App." Each question is asked 2 times, and it tracks the rate of appearance, not a single ranking.
That curve
From the GitHub numbers captured each day:
| Date | stars | fork |
|---|---|---|
| 10-18 | 28 | 28 |
| 10-20 | 98 | 79 |
| 10-22 | 156 | 92 |
| 10-23 | 22 | 6 |
| 10-28 | 33 | 7 |
| 10-30 | 128 | 107 |
| 11-01 | 218 | 113 |
| 11-04 | 258 | 91 |
| 11-06 | 401 | 104 |
(The 11-06 row was looked up live on GitHub that day.)
A normal open-source project usually has only a fraction of its stars as forks. Fang Xin's one-person company repo works this way: it gains 11 to 26 stars a day, with forks at about 7% of stars. GEO Doctor had equal stars and forks on day one, both at 28, and then on Oct 23 both nearly dropped to zero together. Of Fang Xin's repos, this shape appears only in this one.
Going through the fork list (GitHub API, 11-06):
- The list has 268 forks, of which 164 belong to accounts that no longer load, either banned or deleted. 268 minus 164 gives the 104 shown on the page.
- Of the remaining 104 accounts, 97 were registered in October of 2026 years ago, and only 4 are older accounts.
- They arrived in batches: 10-17 brought 28 within one hour, 10-18 brought 50 within one minute, 10-21 brought 50 within four minutes, and 10-29 brought 100 within two minutes. The first three batches total 128 accounts, and none of them remain.
- Two of the surviving accounts I opened were registered in late October, have 0 followers, own repos named
dapper-moss-liteandfuzzy-anchor-mini, and fork a few popular projects as cover. Bot accounts usually look like this.
The list of stargazers isn't visible to outsiders. But stars and forks rose and were purged together, so the stars most likely came from the same batch of accounts. This is an inference. There's no evidence of who paid for it. People who inflate counts sometimes also star unrelated projects as cover, but they usually pick popular ones and rarely keep returning to a repo that's three days old and barely known.
The same goes for the 51 PRs in the repo: 50 were opened and merged by the author himself, most are branches opened by an AI agent, and outside contributors submitted only 1 English translations, none of which have been merged yet.
Where the real users came from
Setting aside the inflated part, the visible buzz from outside is very small:
- An aggregator account on X, Geek Lite (@QingQ77), posted an intro 10-22 with 1,833 views. Search X for "geo-doctor" or "GEO 医生" and you'll find nothing else.
- A few skill navigation sites and "awesome" lists have listed it, including agentskillshub, awesome-seo-geo-skills, and Trendshift.
- There's a real user's article on Juejin, posted by 11-05, titled "Shiji Evidence Desk GEO Test: After 100 Points on the Technical Audit, Doubao Still Doesn't Find It Independently." The author used GEO Doctor on his own small tool as a fact-check site. The audit scored 100 points with all 14 checks passing, but when he asked Doubao by tool name alone, it found the tool 7 times out of 0; when he described the need, it recommended it 10 times out of 0. His own conclusion: "These checks support the judgment that 'the current request can retrieve the body text and the technical configuration is basically in place,'" but that doesn't mean AI will come looking for you.
This article is probably the most valuable public feedback on the project: someone really uses it, and uses it seriously. It also shows that between "passing the audit" and "being recommended by AI" there is still a long way to go. HN, Reddit, and the media have no coverage of it.
Why the author built it
The log is blunt about it. The 10-23 post says: "For the vast majority of small and medium businesses, they simply can't be found on the internet," and "comparing with today's mini-program promotion, this charges 1000 yuan a month. Before, Doubao couldn't find his mini-program at all; now it can." The next day he started preparing a 200k-word GEO white paper and a 24-episode course.
So this repo is the storefront for his GEO service. If you're thinking about open source for stars, be clear on this: the star count here can't be used to prove that Chinese GEO tools have real demand.
Is this opportunity crowded?
Very crowded, and the Chinese and English sides are far apart:
| Project | Language | Stars | Compared with alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|
| coreyhaines31/marketingskills | English | About 59k | Marketing skills bundle, with AI search optimization as one item |
| AgriciDaniel/claude-seo | English | About 27k, +3,000 in a week | SEO mega-kit, GEO is just one piece |
| zubair-trabzada/geo-seo-claude | English | About 12k | English GEO skill, backed by a paid course community |
| Albert-Weasker/niubigeo | Chinese | About 8,900 | Same play: open source as lead gen plus a paid service, with a landing page and pricing |
| yaojingang/yao-geo-skills | Chinese | 912 | 24 GEO skills, focused on content writing |
| aigclink/geolook | Chinese | 808 | Full loop from diagnosis to verification, more like a platform |
| ViryaZheng/recomby-geo | Chinese | 454 | "GEO AI Employee": skills plus a CLI |
| HeiGeAi/HeiGe-GEO-SEO | Chinese | 87 | Nearly identical positioning: China AI first, compatible with Claude Code / Codex |
(Star counts are GitHub numbers between late October and 11-06.)
The last line is the most telling. Another project also pitched as "Doubao, Qwen, DeepSeek, Yuanbao first" only got 87 stars. In other words, "Chinese AI first" alone doesn't earn stars. Among Chinese GEO skills, a few have hundreds of real stars and only niubigeo reaches thousands. On the English side, several top projects have long passed 10,000 stars.
If it were you
C You can learn from it, but copying a "Chinese GEO skill" to chase stars isn't worth it: most of its stars look bought, comparable projects have only tens to hundreds of real stars, and the English side already has several top projects above 10,000.
Who it suits: people already doing GEO, SEO, or content ops who have real client cases and can show data like "before the change Doubao recommended us 0 times, after it N times"; or people who already have a Chinese developer following and can promote the project without relying on GitHub organic traffic.
Who it doesn't suit: people who can only code and hope a polished README and trending will bring stars. There are already a dozen projects like that, all with nice READMEs. People who want to jump straight into the English GEO space, where 27k-star and 12k-star projects are already in the way. People who want to buy stars to build momentum: in October 23 GitHub wiped 134 stars in a single day, and the traces are visible to anyone in the fork list.
How to do it: don't build another eight-step all-in-one skill. Go after the segment the others do badly. The hands-on test on Juejin already names the gap: a diagnostic score of 100 and Doubao still can't find the brand. What's missing is a small tool that automatically and repeatably samples Doubao, Yuanbao, and Qwen in their apps, archives the answers, and compares before and after (right now people do this by hand), or a public dataset of "what we changed and how much the recommendation rate moved." Other GEO projects would be happy to cite either one.
How to get users: write hands-on test articles in Chinese for Juejin, Zhihu, and WeChat Official Accounts, with numbers in the headline, in the style of "After a technical check scored 100, Doubao still didn't find us on its own." Then submit to lists like awesome-seo-geo-skills and skill directories. For the English version, post on X and dev.to and ride the discussion around big projects like claude-seo.
Window: before the end of 2026. If Doubao or Yuanbao open a backend for "brand visibility in AI", or a big project like claude-seo adds Chinese AI sampling, this gap closes.
What would mean I'm wrong: ① GEO doctor keeps gaining dozens of stars a day on its own, even without the batches of new accounts showing up in the fork list; ② a Chinese peer like HeiGe-GEO-SEO or recomby-geo organically passes 2,000 stars within a month or two, which would mean Chinese developer demand is bigger than it looks; ③ Doubao or Yuanbao ships an app-side interface that can be called in bulk and matches app answers, at which point "app sampling" is no longer a gap.

Bottom line
It didn't really "break out. The star and fork curves were mostly built from bought fake accounts: of the 268 forks, 164 came from accounts GitHub has since banned, and most of the rest were created only 2026-10 ago, with batch-style names like pmgilwinward and devemmawalkertfvn, arriving in bursts of 28 / 50 / 50 / 100 in a few minutes. A GitHub cleanup then dropped the stars from 156 back to 22. 10-23 The only real outside buzz was one post on X from the aggregator account Geek Lite with 1,833 views, a hands-on user review on Juejin, and a few skill directories listing it. The author, Fang Xin (WeChat Official Account / Douyin "Fang Xin Three Gold"), has been upfront about the goal: winning clients for his GEO agency (¥1000/month), a 200k-word white paper, and a 24-lesson course. The recall card's claims that "24 days, 951 stars" and a fork/star ratio of 1:3.6 show lots of people are installing it, and that "44 PRs prove real collaboration," don't hold up.
1. What it is
- An Agent Skill (installable in Claude Code / Codex / Kimi Code / WorkBuddy), plus an npx CLI and a local web workbench called geo-studio.
- The flow is 0 intake → 1 health check (robots, AI crawlers, noindex, whether the body text is in the raw HTML) → 2 fact card → 3 question set → 4 sampling (ask manually in apps like Doubao, or batch-ask DeepSeek / Qwen / Kimi / Doubao / ChatGPT via API) → 5 diagnosis (recommendation rate, competitor recommendation ranking) → 6 batch article writing → 7 publishing (official site / dev.to auto-publish; Zhihu and Juejin filled in by a browser assistant, with a person clicking publish) → 8 re-check. There's also an "autopilot": a GitHub Action runs sampling, writing, and PR opening every Monday.
- Selling points: Chinese AI (Doubao, DeepSeek, Yuanbao, Qwen, ERNIE, Kimi) first, bilingual Chinese and English, free under MIT, "copy one sentence and send it to an AI to install." The README explicitly rejects spamming articles and faking reviews.
- Repo created 2026-10-14, v0.9.0 (10-20).
2. Growth data, and why it can't be trusted
Star curve (repo, repo_day)
| Date | stars | fork | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10-18 | 28 | 28 | Stars and forks rose equally |
| 10-20 | 98 | 79 | |
| 10-22 | 156 | 92 | |
| 10-23 | 22 | 6 | −134 stars and −86 forks in one day: GitHub cleaned out fake accounts |
| 10-28 | 33 | 7 | After the cleanup, the real baseline is about this |
| 10-29 → 10-30 | 82 → 128 | 57 → 107 | Second round |
| 11-01 | 218 | 113 | Single day +86 |
| 11-04 | 258 | 91 | Another −10 stars and −25 forks (a second cleanup) |
| 11-06 | 305 | 98 | Live GitHub check: 401 stars / 104 forks (up about 96 more that day) |
For comparison, the same author's "one-person company journal" (one-person-company-journal) gained a steady 11–26 stars a day over the same period, with only 52 / 734 forks (repo), a normal organic curve. geo-doctor is the only repo under his name that shows this shape.
fork accounts (live GitHub API check, 2026-11-06)
- The
/forksendpoint lists 268 forks, and 164 of them have owners whose accounts are already 404 (banned or deleted). That exactly matches 268 − the current forks_count of 104. - Of the 104 still active, 97 belong to accounts registered 2026-10. Only 4 are older accounts (registered 2014–2019, such as zhaotoday, WXwangxin, Nathanielguo, shpandun).
- The timing shows bulk arrivals: 10-17 11:37–12:38 brought 28, 10-18 11:36 brought 50 within one minute, 10-21 16:51–16:55 brought 50, and 10-29 01:19–01:20 brought 100. All 10-17, 18 and 21 of these batches, 128 accounts in total, have since been banned.
- Spot-checking the accounts that are still alive (pmgilwinward, minhuangxrh): 10-27 sign-ups before and after, 0 followers, repos named
dapper-moss-litefuzzy-anchor-minixxx-resume, the kind of auto-generated names, plus forks of popular repos (bat, fish-shell) as cover. Classic star-farm accounts. From 11-02 to 11-06, the 3–6 forks coming in daily also all came from accounts registered between 10-20 and 10-31. - Our token can't access the stargazer list (endpoints 403 / 401). But stars and forks rose together and were cleaned up together (10-23 both dropped to zero), so the stars are most likely from the same batches of accounts.
Who bought them can't be proven. Star farms sometimes pad their tracks with unrelated repos as cover, but they usually pick popular ones. A repo only 3 days old, barely known, getting stars in batches, while the author 10-15 publicly wrote in the log "it'd be nice if everyone starred this": the author or someone close to them probably bought them. Marked as unverified.
"44 PRs"
Of the 51 PRs, 50 were opened by the author (14 commits signed as claude). That's an AI-agent workflow: branch, open PR, merge, all by the author. Only 1 external PRs exist (an English translation of lllz308, not merged). All issues were opened by the author or github-actions. There is no external collaboration.
3. Real exposure (growth channels)
| Channel | Evidence | Scale |
|---|---|---|
| Author's own channels: WeChat Official Account / Douyin / Bilibili "Fang Xin Three Golds," personal site logs | fxin.cc/journal/day-191 (10-15) published and asking for stars; day-196 / 200 cover short GEO videos and courses | The author's one-person company documentary repo has 734 stars; follower count unverified |
| X aggregator account Geek Lite (@QingQ77) | 2026-10-22 tweet introducing geo-doctor | 1,833 views (read via r.jina.ai), very small |
| Hands-on user report on Juejin | "Shiji Evidence Lab GEO test: after technical checks for 100 minutes, Doubao still doesn't find it independently" (2026-11-05), using GEO Doctor to build a fact site | One article, showing at least one real user |
| Skill directories / curated lists | agentskillshub.top "Best Claude SEO Skill," UnderleveledBuilder/awesome-seo-geo-skills (50 stars), longx.us, Trendshift listing | long tail |
| Industry reports | Sohu's "2026 Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) Industry Strategy Research Report" lists "GEO Doctor" in a third-party tool | Whether it's the same product is unverified ("GEO Doctor" is also a common name) |
| Star / fork farming | See above | The bulk of the stars |
| GitHub trending | The recall card says 10-21 entered the JavaScript trending list at #6. In our data, trending_days_any = 0 (trending generally only includes repos at least 60 days old). | Not verified |
Searches on x-radar for "geo-doctor," "GEO Doctor" and "Fangx" return only 0 results. No HN, Reddit, or press coverage.
4. Where the money comes back (the author's business loop)
- day-191 (10-15): "I've already picked up a few clients, but I'm not confident in my results yet, so I'm not taking orders for now... Later we can set up a group to discuss."
- day-195 (10-23): "Today's mini-program promotion, we charge 1000 yuan a month. Before this, Doubao couldn't find his mini-program at all. Now it can." It also lists platforms where content can be distributed.
- day-196 (10-24): Preparing a "2026 GEO White Paper" (200k characters), a "GEO Distribution Project," and a 24-part GEO course.
- The personal homepage lists a WeChat ID: Morigest.
So the open-source repo serves as the storefront and lead-generation channel for "GEO done-for-you service + white paper + course." The stars (including the farmed ones) are used as trust signals for "hundreds of stars on an open-source project," supporting pricing for GEO services that go for thousands to tens of thousands. This is a legitimate strategy, but the star count itself shouldn't be read as a demand signal.
5. Competitors

| DeepSeekGEO/deepseek-geo (supercomputing GEO) | Open source | Around 2026-04 | 129 stars (repo) | A domestic AI brand monitoring platform (Vue) |
| Profound / Peec AI / Otterly.ai / AthenaHQ | Web SaaS | 2024–2025 | Funding / subscription model (specific figures unverified) | An overseas AI visibility monitoring SaaS that doesn't cover Doubao. geo-doctor is free and runs locally. |

| Domestic GEO service providers (such as Tanyuan GEO, Yingxiao Tui) | Other | 2025–2026 | Many (unverified) | Manual done-for-you services at thousands to tens of thousands per order. geo-doctor is the DIY version, and the author also sells services. |
The GEO skill space is already crowded. The English side has top repos with tens of thousands of stars, and the Chinese side has a dozen or more similar repos.
6. Differentiation
- The real differentiators: ① Chinese AI first (Doubao, Yuanbao, Qwen, etc.), and it insists on manual sampling inside the apps, because API and app answers differ. ② The workflow is closed-loop (diagnosis → fact cards → drafting → semi-automated distribution to Zhihu / Juejin → recheck recommendation rate → weekly autopilot PR), more complete than most "prompt collection" skills. ③ "Copy one sentence and send it to an AI to install," friendly to non-developers (WorkBuddy users). ④ A clear compliance stance (rejects spam articles and GEO poisoning, and every fact must have a source).
- But these differences are not the source of its stars. Most of the stars are farmed. The real exposure is one small tweet and a few directory sites. HeiGe-GEO-SEO has nearly the same positioning but only 87 stars. niubigeo used the same "open-source lead generation + sell services" approach to reach 8.9k stars.
7. What to borrow
- "Open-source skill as the storefront, then sell done-for-you services, white papers and courses": GEO services are hot in China (starting at 1000 yuan/month per order). A free tool lets small businesses first see that "Doubao can't find you," then converts them into service clients. Conversion comes from demonstrating the pain point (recommendation rate tables, competitor recommendation rankings), not from star counts.
- The methodology for sampling Chinese AI (manual sampling in apps, asking each question 2 times to measure appearance rate, reporting sample sizes), and the low-cost approach of "fact cards → fact site (GitHub Pages)" so AI can read your practices, can be borrowed directly.
- Cautionary lesson: star and fork farming gets cleaned up by GitHub quickly (one purge removed 85% in 10-23), and it leaves traces in the fork list that anyone can spot. For someone selling "trustworthy GEO," that is a reputational risk.
8. Uncertain
- Who bought the stars (the author, a partner, or a farm using it as cover) is unverified. The stargazer details aren't accessible, so the authenticity of the stars is inferred from the forks and the growth curve.
- The author's WeChat Official Account / Douyin follower counts, and how many GEO service orders they actually landed, are unverified.
- The recall card's "Trendshift 24 days +951 stars" and "10-21 JS trending #6" could not be reproduced; Trendshift's current page shows 399 stars / 266 forks (fork count includes banned accounts).
- Whether the "GEO doctor" in the Sohu industry report refers to this library is unverified.
