"Comment TRADE and I'll DM you": how an Instagram creator with 138k followers turned a stock-trading skill pack with only one commit into 1400 stars

What it is A free Claude skill pack. Its 11 skills help you copy the 13F holdings of investors like Buffett, track stock trades by members of Congress, and size positions and manage risk against a budget, with your approval required before any order is placed.

Why it blew up The author has a 138K-follower Instagram account and used a Reel that said "Comment TRADE and I'll DM you the link" to send viewers to GitHub. The title, "copy Buffett, copy Pelosi," hits a mass-market itch. The author's follow-up repo, day-trader-skill, pins a backlink to the original in its README, and other tutorial accounts have copied the same script.

CHow you could ride it Don't build a Chinese or A-share version and wait for it to grow on its own. If you make short video, copy the playbook: shoot the video before you build the repo, swap a comment keyword for the link, pair a mass-appeal hook with a safety promise, make install a single paste, churn out repos from one template, and link them to each other.

C grade: the stars come from the author's own Instagram audience and a well-worn DM funnel. Followers can't get that. There are already a dozen-plus AI stock-trading skill projects, the big ones with 10K to 100K stars. What you can learn is the distribution playbook. Whispers in small circles

On Oct 2026 13, Opus Jake, an AI tutorial creator on Instagram, posted a Reel whose caption opened with "Comment TRADE and I'll send you the free Trader Skill and full install steps." He created the GitHub repo the next day, committed once, and never touched the code again. By Nov 6, the repo had about 1,400 stars and nearly 300 forks, and it's still gaining roughly a hundred a day. Almost all of those stars came from Instagram DMs. Anyone can write this code. The hard part is the pipeline that turns views into stars, and that pipeline lives on his account.

Video first, repo second

Jake Schincariol goes by @opusjake on Instagram, has 138K followers, and his bio reads "I build Skills & Agents… FREE AI Skills." The caption on his Oct 13 Reel said:

Stop asking Claude what stock to buy. Give it a whole investment research workflow instead. ……There's even a Pelosi tracker for following publicly disclosed congressional trades. Public information, not insider access. You review the research. You make the decisions.

(Stop asking Claude which stock to buy and give it a full investment research workflow. ...It even includes a Pelosi tracker that follows publicly disclosed stock trades by members of Congress. All public information, not insider info. You do the research and make the decisions.)

Viewers comment "TRADE" and an auto-DM sends them the GitHub link or a landing page on his site. The repo was created on Oct 14 21:12 (UTC), and the first line of the README says what the Reel said: "11 Claude skills that copy the investors you trust, watch the news and Congress, size every position against your budget, and never place an order without your approval."

So the repo is really the deliverable for that video.

What it actually is

A free, MIT-licensed Claude skill pack with 11 skills, each handling one job. The two most prominent: /trader-copycat reads an investor's 13F holdings from SEC EDGAR and turns them into weights you can mirror. /trader-pelosi reads congressional trade disclosures as soon as they appear, turns the PDFs into a clean table, and alerts you. The others cover news, earnings, stock picking, budgeting, risk controls, taxes, price alerts, rebalancing, and order tickets.

The README walks through "copying Berkshire with $5,000": it reads the 2026 Q2 13F, which puts Apple at 22.04% and American Express at 17.14%. It sets a 10% cash buffer, caps each position at 25%, and works out how much to buy of each. Risk checks run line by line. The last step shows "Buy $1,250 AAPL at market, day order," and it only calls the broker API if you reply yes. Paper trading is the default.

Install is easy enough for a total beginner: paste the repo link into Claude and type "install skill." It's pure standard-library Python, needs no pip and no API key, and pulls all its data from public SEC and House Clerk feeds.

Where the stars came from

The daily star count tells the story (GitHub stars per day):

Datestarfork
10-17354
10-21597
10-2227031
10-28807149
11-061,357274

The first week was quiet, then Oct 22 jumped by 211 in a day. Two things happened around then. On Oct 20 he released a follow-up, day-trader-skill, with a new "comment TRADE" Reel. The follow-up's README opens with "Looking for the original Trader skill? This repo is its day-trading sequel," and links back. The follow-up has 5,700 stars now and has sent plenty of people to the original. On Oct 25 he posted another Reel about "studying investors like Buffett and analyzing their public holdings," and stars have kept climbing since.

Forks are about 20% of stars, noticeably higher than the roughly 11% you usually see on large repos at the same age (comparison with new GitHub repos, estimated). A lot of beginners watched the video, actually clicked Fork, and cloned.

Then other accounts spread it. Other AI tutorial accounts copied the same script. Neok AI posted "Comment CLAUDE and I'll send you the free Claude skill that tracks what US politicians buy," someone on Facebook posted "Comment TRADE…", and on Nov 1 an account called "AI | Artificial Intelligence" posted "Want to trade stocks like Buffett? Meet Trader." kevinsingh.com published an install guide on Oct 21, and several Claude skill directories have listed it. Even a review account's Oct 18 post, "Can you make money copying Pelosi with AI? I checked," added to the buzz.

You can barely find it on X, HN, or Reddit. This is a GitHub project that lives entirely on Instagram and Facebook.

He's run this playbook 20 times already

Jake's GitHub account was created in January 2025 and has over 3,400 followers. Using the same template, "11 Claude skills that ___," he has put out more than 20 repos, and 7 of them have passed 1K stars (GitHub, 11-06):

But his newest repos, seed, closer, and whale, picked less gripping topics and have only dozens of stars. Same person, same funnel, and a less compelling topic doesn't take off. Success comes from two things multiplied together: his distribution, plus a hook people instantly want to click, "copy Buffett" and "copy Pelosi." That hook has already been validated. An iOS paid app that auto-copies Pelosi and Buffett portfolios has 23K ratings in the US store.

He isn't after the stars themselves. His site, opusjake.ai, has a "book a call" consulting entry and a free Skool community (over 100 members). The repo is the bait. How much he earns hasn't been disclosed.

Who's fighting for the same ground

AI stock-trading has a lot of open-source projects, and some are big:

TauricResearch/TradingAgentsMulti-agent trading frameworks121kRequires deployment and keys, aimed at developers
virattt/ai-hedge-fund"Master persona" analysis65kDoesn't copy 13F, follow Congress, or place orders

AlphaGBM/skills, investorskills, ai-berkshire, and othersClaude skills0.2–17kNeed data APIs, or lean Chinese or value-investing methodology

Trader-skill has no feature nobody else could build. It wins on being the lightest format (install is just a paste), the most direct topic, and its own distribution.

If it were you

Verdict: You don't need to copy the trader-skill product, but its distribution method is worth copying. Its stars come from a 138K-follower account and a well-worn DM funnel, and the people who follow that playbook can't reproduce either. The AI stock-trading skill space already has a dozen-plus projects, the big ones with tens of thousands to 100K stars.

Not for you: If you have no audience and plan to build a "Chinese / A-share trader-skill" and wait for it to grow on GitHub by itself. Chinese and value-investing skill packs already exist, and without promotion they'll likely stall at a few dozen stars.

For you: If you already make short video (Instagram, TikTok, Douyin, or Xiaohongshu) and want to turn that traffic into GitHub stars and a reputation. Steal these moves:

  1. Shoot the video first, then build the repo. The repo is just the thing the video promised. The video tests whether anyone wants the topic first.
  2. Swap a comment keyword for the link. "Comment TRADE and I'll send it" turns views into comments and DMs, then into stars. More comments also get the video pushed further.
  3. Pick the hook people most want, then add a safety promise. "Copy Buffett, copy Congress" plus "never trades without your yes, paper mode by default." The first line makes people click, and the second makes them willing to install. Other accounts feel safe reposting it.
  4. Zero-friction install. "Paste the link into Claude and say install skill" with no pip and no key. Viewers can use it right after the video, so more of them star it.
  5. Churn repos from one template. "11 Claude skills that ___" for each new repo, with the README at the top linking back to the previous one so they feed each other traffic.

How to get users: Your own short videos with a comment-keyword DM are the main channel. If the topic is compelling enough, other tutorial accounts will repost it on their own, and skill directories will pick it up. X and HN add little for this kind of product. It has almost no presence on either.

When to move, and when it's already too late: The "comment a keyword to get a Claude skill" script is now used by many accounts in the Instagram AI tutorial scene, so viewers are getting tired of it. The "copy famous investors' holdings" hook has kept working. If you want to ride the Claude skill wave, the window is probably the first half of 2027 (estimate).

What would show you've misread it: If an unknown creator with no audience builds an A-share, Indian-stock, or other-market version that reaches a thousand stars on organic traffic within a few months, the topic can grow on its own without heavy distribution, and a "same format, different market" bet is worth taking seriously. The tradermonty project, with the same format, gained 3,600 stars in a year and 212 in the last week alone. It's a signal worth watching.

Jakeschincariol/trader-skill: why it took off

Data as of 2026-11-06. Channel: GitHub.

One line

A free Claude skill pack by Opus Jake (Jake Schincariol), an AI tutorial creator with 138k followers on Instagram. It has 11 skills: copy institutional holdings by 13F filings, track Congress trades (the "Pelosi skill"), monitor news, size positions against a budget, manage risk, and a final order step that requires your confirmation. The stars didn't come from GitHub itself. They came in batches from Reels that said "comment TRADE and I'll DM you the link", a keyword DM funnel. He has used the same template for 20 more "11 Claude skills" repos, and this repo also gets traffic from a backlink in the README of his sequel, day-trader-skill (5.7k stars).

Data

  • Created 2026-10-14 21:12 UTC with a single commit (v1.0, author credited with Co-Authored-By Claude). No code pushed since (GitHub API).
  • Stars (data card / our github DB): 10-17 35 → 10-21 59 → 10-22 270 (+211 in one day) → 10-28 807 → 11-06 1357. Checked live via GitHub API on 11-06: 1412 stars, 289 forks. Last 7 days +454, the prior 7 days +556. Growth has eased a bit but it still adds a hundred-plus stars a day.
  • Forks/stars ≈ 20%. According to the SCHEMA.md in our github DB, the median fork/star ratio for new repos with ≥5000 stars is about 11%. This repo is clearly higher, consistent with a beginner audience that clicks Fork/Clone from a video. The suspect column is empty.
  • Author account: registered 2025-01, 3442 followers, 25 public repos. Repos on the same template: replica-skill 7853 stars, day-trader-skill 5701, instagram-agent-skill 5075, youtube-agent-skill 4768, linkedin-agent-skill 3261, founder-skill 2553, arena-skill 1285. Newer repos such as seed, closer and whale have only a few dozen stars each (GitHub API, 11-06).

Where users come from (growth levers)

  1. His own Instagram Reels + keyword DMs (confirmed). @opusjake has 138K followers and 136 posts. His bio reads "I build Skills & Agents… FREE AI Skills" (Instagram profile summary from Jina search). Reels directly tied to this repo:
    • 2026-10-13 "Comment 'TRADE' and I'll send you the free Trader Skill + full setup" (instagram.com/reel/DedgKQKNvIB), posted one day before the repo was created: video first, repo after.
    • 2026-10-20 the day-trader one: "Comment 'TRADE'… I turned Claude into a trading research team with 11 specialized AI agents" (reel/Det0-D8Oc41).
    • 2026-10-25 another Trader Skill post: "…study investors like Warren Buffett, analyze their disclosed holdings…" (reel/De6vTdgtZcG). The mechanism: viewers comment a keyword, an automated DM sends the GitHub link or a landing page (opusjake.ai/r/…), and the stars and forks come from people who tapped through the DM.
  2. Sequel backlink (confirmed). day-trader-skill was created 10-20; its README opens with: "Looking for the original Trader skill? …This repo is its day-trading sequel: the Trader skill v2", linking back to this repo. This repo added 10-22 stars in one day, +211, in sync with day-trader's surge (the orcarouter blog says it already had 10-23 637 stars).
  3. Reposts by other creators and SEO sites (confirmed; these were organic). Other AI tutorial accounts copied the same "comment a keyword for the link" script and promoted this skill pack, for example:
    • Neok AI's Reel "Comment CLAUDE and I'll send you the free Claude skill that tracks every stock US politicians buy";
    • ritik.gupta's Facebook video "Comment TRADE…";
    • 11-01 posted by "AI | Artificial Intelligence" (reel/DfMwL5jOtV_): "Want to trade like Warren Buffett…Meet Trader". Articles and directory sites have picked it up too: kevinsingh.com 10-21 wrote an install guide; chen.media wrote "Copy Warren Buffett's Portfolio Into Your Own Budget"; claudeers.com, skillsdirectory and skillsllm all listed it. Even Spent The Tokens 10-18's debunk post (reel/DeoRaAciY0i "Copy Pelosi's trades with AI and make money? I checked") is adding to the buzz."
  4. X / HN / Reddit: x-radar found 40 posts in the last 0 days for "trader-skill" and "Pelosi skill". On Reddit, the only mention was his other repo, replica-skill, on r/BestGitHubRepos. X and HN are not sources for this repo.

Jakeschincariol/day-trader-skillIts own sequel2026-10-205701 starsA day-trading version that funnels traffic back to this repo

Bottom line: lots of people are building "AI + copy-trading / congressional trades." Open-source frameworks with 100k-star-level traction exist, and apps like Autopilot and dub are selling it. trader-skill has no functional moat.

Why it took off

  1. Distribution sits with the author. An Instagram account with 138k followers, plus a proven "comment keyword → DM link" funnel, lets him publish a repo and film a Reel from a template. 7 repos on that template have passed 1,000 stars, which suggests the success comes from the machine, not any single repo.
  2. Topic chosen for mass-appeal hooks. "Copy Buffett / copy Pelosi" is one of the strongest traffic hooks in Instagram finance content, and Autopilot's Pelosi Tracker has already shown there is paid demand for it. trader-skill packages it as "free, 11 AI employees, you just say yes."
  3. Low enough barrier for beginners: paste the GitHub link into Claude, type "install skill," and it's set up. Pure standard-library Python, no pip, no API key, and all data comes from public SEC EDGAR and House Clerk endpoints. That's what makes "watch the video, then use it" possible, and it's part of why the fork rate is high.
  4. Safety framing: "No order without your yes, paper trading by default." That line lowers the psychological barrier for finance newcomers and makes the reposts easier to share.
  5. Cross-promotion within his own catalog: the day-trader sequel links back from its README, and the opusjake.ai Library page hosts SEO landing pages for the series.

Differentiation, and was it the reason it worked?

What's different about the product: it's a native Claude skill (not a framework or an app), zero-config, uses free public data, combines 13F copying and congressional trades, and has a human-confirmed order loop. These make "a beginner who watched a video can use it" work, and that's a necessary condition. But distribution is what decides the outcome: tradermonty/claude-trading-skills, a similar-shape project, took a year to reach 3.6k stars, and the author's newer seed, closer and whale repos, on less exciting topics, have only a few dozen stars each. The differentiator is "topic hook × creator distribution," not the technology.

How visible it is

Circulating in small circles. Revenue is not public (it's a free MIT project). The author presumably monetizes through consulting via "Book a call" on opusjake.ai and the free Skool community Opus Lab (100+ members), but no figures are public. It has been widely reposted in the AI tutorial scene on Instagram and Facebook, and has a long tail of SEO articles. I found no coverage on X, HN or mainstream media.

Copycats

  • Reposting accounts: Neok AI, ritik.gupta, the "AI | Artificial Intelligence" account, and Turban Tech Guy (scaleus.in published an NSE India PDF guide for day-trader).
  • Articles and directories: kevinsingh.com, chen.media, moneyflock, orcarouter.
  • The author is also copying himself: day-trader-skill is the sequel.
  • I found no functional clone repo from another developer.

What to borrow

  • "Film the Reel first, create the repo after": the repo is just the deliverable for the video.
  • "Comment keyword → DM link" turns video engagement into GitHub stars and email or community leads.
  • The topic targets the greediest mass-appeal hooks (copying celebrity holdings and politicians' trades), and a safety promise lowers hesitation.
  • The zero-friction install: paste the link into Claude and say "install."
  • Batch production on one template: "11 Claude skills that ___," with each repo's README pinning backlinks to the others.

Uncertain

  • Star authenticity: the stargazers endpoint returned 403/404 for our token, so I couldn't sample account creation dates.
  • Per-Reel view counts weren't available (Instagram pages don't expose them).
  • Real usage and retention are unknown. The repo hasn't been updated since creation and has only 2 issues.
  • The scale of the author's revenue from consulting and the community is unknown.
