# "Proxy drops, so kill Claude": an anti-ban switch that came out of the ban wave. 23 days, 1,585 stars

**What it is** A macOS tool for people in China who use the Claude desktop app. Before launch it checks 14 items (proxy, exit IP, timezone, DNS, WebRTC, and more). If any check fails, it won't start. If the proxy drops, it kills Claude. It can also isolate four accounts. It's open source and free.

**Why it blew up** During the 2026 October Claude ban wave, everyone's biggest fear was "the node hiccups and you get banned for going direct." It turned the anti-ban checklist into hard switches. AI tool blogger 阿蔺 introduced it in three plain sentences, and it gained 307 stars the next day.

**C** **How you can follow it** Don't chase this category. Copy the playbook instead: the next time a platform tightens its risk controls, within a week turn the anti-ban checklist into a hard "won't start unless it passes" switch. Have a Chinese-language AI-tools creator on X explain it in three sentences, or apply the same approach to any compliance-enforcement scenario.

Grade C: the playbook is worth copying, but the category is crowded. Five or six similar projects appeared within a month, the top one already has 3,000+ stars, and interest is fading. Stars track ban news, and the project conflicts with Claude's terms and could be taken down at any time. Being talked about in small circles

claude-switcher is a macOS utility for people in China who run the Claude desktop app. Before Claude opens, it checks 14 network and system conditions, and if any hard check fails, Claude won't launch. If the proxy drops, it kills Claude within 10 seconds. It rode the October 2026 Claude ban wave, and one Chinese X post pushed it up 307 stars in a single day. Interest is fading now, and five or six similar projects have popped up in a month. The takeaway: when a platform tightens its risk controls, turn an anti-ban checklist into a hard switch that refuses to launch the app unless every check passes. That gets shared more than another how-to post does.

### A single log line

The repo's README has a section called "Battle record" with a log of just two lines:

```2026-10-07 00:31:12 Proxy offline (kernel or TUN lost), Claude automatically closed 2026-10-04 12:55:26 Timezone anomaly: [Asia/Shanghai] automatically restored```
Right over the National Day holiday was when the bans hit hardest. Sina Finance's 10-11 report said Claude banned 11.4M accounts in the first half of the year, and only 42k of those appeals were overturned. On X, people said two-year-old accounts and freshly paid Max accounts were getting banned in batches. Forums also spread a claim that the new client uses STUN to probe WebRTC and the network exit: if the node flickers and traffic goes direct, the account is gone.
The author's GitHub account has only this one repo, created 10-14. The idea is simple: instead of remembering to check the proxy, timezone, and IPv6 every time before opening Claude, let a program check, and refuse to launch if something's wrong.
### What it actually does
- **Pre-launch health check, 14 items** : is the proxy core running, is the TUN adapter taking over traffic, what country is the exit IP in, did it change since last time, is the timezone and system language still China, are IPv6 and DNS bypassing the proxy, and can WebRTC leak the real IP (it hand-writes STUN requests with raw sockets, queries both foreign and domestic STUN servers at once, and the domestic one reports the real IP immediately on a bare connection). If any hard check fails, Claude does not start.
- **Kill switch** : a resident daemon checks the proxy process and TUN adapter every 10 seconds and kills Claude the moment the tunnel drops.
- **Multi-account snapshots** : four slots, A to D. Each account's login state and device info is stored separately, and switching swaps the whole set in and out instead of logging out and back in.
- **Config drift self-repair** : if a proxy client update resets the TUN toggle or the system timezone is switched back to Shanghai, it reverts the change automatically and logs one line.
AGPL open source, free. The Mac version is a single-file SwiftUI app; Windows and Linux are still Beta. The README opens with a usage statement: only for users who are traveling or living abroad in supported regions, and forbidden for circumventing regional restrictions.
### Where the stars came from
| Date | What happened | star |
|---|---|---|
| 10-14 | Repo created | 2 |
| 10-17 | Source not found (presumably the author posted it on Linux.do or in WeChat circles) | 183 |
| 10-20 | AI tool blogger Alin (@alin_zone, 12k followers) posted an introduction | 233 |
| 10-21 | First day after the post | 540 (+307, single-day high) |
| 10-22 |  | 712 |
| 10-25 to 10-27 | NodeSeek repost, LearnKu tutorial, English blog deep-dive on explainx | 10-27 to 1,070 |
| 11-06 | +20 to +60 per day | 1,585,158 forks |
(Stars from GitHub daily data; post data from the X post page, 11-06)
The surge came almost entirely from Alin's post. The opening line was 'Claude is still amazing, how many open-source projects have the bans spawned,' then three plain-language points: check before opening and refuse to launch if it fails; kill Claude as soon as the proxy drops; store each account's login state separately so that 'from Claude's view, each account has always been on the same computer.' The closing line: 'Especially suited for people using the Claude client in China.' The post got 115k views, 1,026 likes, and 1,384 bookmarks. More bookmarks than likes means people saved it to install later.
The engineering jargon in the README, Block-on-Fail, Kill-Switch, a hand-written STUN stack, zero dependencies, is opaque to ordinary users, but it made the people reposting it sound credible. Alin's contribution was translating it into three plain sentences. Five days later someone posted '[Open-source gadget] anti-ban bodyguard' on NodeSeek, opening with 'Today I saw a big shot on Twitter open-source a gadget project.' 11-03 also had a blogger write a longer technical write-up, which got only 700 more views and didn't move anything.
The author also works to keep and recruit users. The README has a section 'Help spread the word' asking users to post on Linux.do, with a one-line recommendation already written for you. A WeChat group passed 200 members. The repo includes an AGENTS.md of 27KB that says 'Can't configure it? Hand it to your AI': drop it into Claude Code, Cursor, or Kimi Code and it installs and troubleshoots itself. Over three weeks there were more than a dozen releases, and outside developers submitted PRs for Windows and Linux.
### Some people buy it, some don't
Under the NodeSeek post, the comments aren't one-sided: 'Why bother, get an Apple Store Pro plan, it's been over half a year without trouble', 'It's mostly just IP and payment method', 'It's open source, so they'll just tweak it to get around it', 'The Kill-Switch is pointless overkill.'
These comments get at the core of this kind of tool: nobody can verify whether it actually reduces bans. Users buy peace of mind, not a measurable effect. It also runs directly against Anthropic's terms, so it could be reported and taken down at any time.
### Who's nearby
| Project | Launched | Scale (GitHub, 11-06) | Compared with alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|
| liseami/CCBaga | 10-11 | 3,441 star | Same week, one-click cleanup plus browser fingerprint rotation, covering the browser side |
| DUNHKpcc/Claude-Guardian | 10-15 | 1,761 star | A Claude Skill that summarizes lessons from 80 ban reports; it gives advice only and doesn't block |
| yacuo/check-cc | July | 2,821 star | Web plus local checks with a risk score; no blocking |
| realiti4/claude-swap | January | 4,479 star | English-language multi-account switching that ignores the network environment |
| Lee-xeo/Claude-Cage | 10-31 | 149 star | Runs Claude inside a VM and cuts the network if leak detection fails; a V2EX post got 4,600 more views |
| Fishason/Claude-anti-ban and others | Since June | 457 star | Just tutorials; people have to follow them manually |
In one month at least five anti-ban projects appeared, and a batch of virtual-card repos rode the same keyword. claude-switcher is the only one doing 'hard blocking': others tell you where the risks are, it simply won't let you open the app. But CCBaga has twice its star count, which suggests the demand was created by the whole wave of bans, and claude-switcher only captured one slice of it.
### Why this one, and why now
- **Timing** : the National Day ban wave made everyone look for a fix, and several open-source projects appeared within a week.
- **One line hits the biggest fear** : 'kill Claude as soon as the proxy drops' lines up with the rumor that a node flicker plus a jump to direct gets you banned.
- **One blogger made it sound human** : the single-day peak of 307 stars came from this one post.
- **Low barrier** : AGENTS.md lets people who can't configure things have an AI install it for them, and the WeChat group caught the scattered users.
In the last ~7 days +313, in the prior 7 days +516, so it's cooling. Once the ban wave passes, its growth will probably stop too (inference).
### If it were you
**Verdict** : C. The post teaches a useful playbook, but entering this space now isn't worth it: five or six similar projects appeared in a month, the leaders already have over 3,000 stars, interest is fading, and the whole category conflicts with Claude's terms, so any project could be taken down.
**Who it suits** : developers who spend time in Linux.do, NodeSeek, V2EX and similar circles, have some posting reach, and know networking and proxies well; they're after a reputation as people who 'know the ropes' and aren't bothered by gray areas.
**Who it doesn't suit** : people who want a project whose stars keep growing and that they can put on a resume. Stars for this kind of project follow ban news; once the news stops, growth stops, and the project name stays tied to circumventing regional restrictions.
**How to do it** (pick one):
1. **Wait for the next tightening of risk controls, then run the same play** . It doesn't have to be Claude; any platform with bans, quotas, or regional locks works: turn the anti-ban checklist people pass around by word of mouth into a program that refuses to launch and stops automatically when something goes wrong. Speed matters: claude-switcher created its repo three days after the ban news broke.
2. **Do the part nobody else did well** . Its Windows and Linux versions are still Beta, and the most common comment is 'does it actually work?' Build a cross-platform version that produces a health report and tracks 'how long without a ban since using it,' and let real data speak.
3. **Carry the hard-switch idea into a compliant domain** . For example, for AI coding tools: 'don't allow commit if the key isn't in .env,' or 'don't run the agent unless the sandbox is on.' It's the same move, turning a checklist people have to remember into a gate that won't let them continue, but without the risk of being taken down.
**How to get users** : follow this route. Find a Chinese-language X blogger focused on AI tools with 10–20k followers and have them explain what you built in three plain sentences; write a one-line recommendation into the README so others can repost it; prepare an AGENTS.md so AI can install it for people; then set up a group to keep them.
**When to move first** : opportunity 1 needs to ship within a week of the next risk-control news, or it's the sixth or seventh entrant. Opportunities 2 and 3 are not time-sensitive.
**What would mean we got it wrong** : (1) claude-switcher or CCBaga keeps gaining hundreds of stars a week after the ban news fades, which would mean this is a lasting need, not a passing wave, and worth building seriously; (2) Anthropic loosens risk controls or opens more regions, and the category disappears; (3) a project gets taken down after a report, which means even copying the playbook needs a compliant domain.
## Why YOURSJEYO/claude-switcher (Claude switcher) took off
> Research date 2026-11-06. The star curve comes from our github database (repo_day / repo_profile); other sources are linked in the text.
### One line
A macOS tool for people in China using the Claude desktop app / Claude Code (Windows and Linux are in Beta). Before every Claude launch it checks 14 network and system items (proxy, TUN, exit IP, timezone, locale, IPv6, DNS, WebRTC, etc.). If any hard check fails, Claude won't start. If the proxy drops, it kills Claude within 10 seconds. It also isolates four accounts (A–D) via snapshots. It rode the October 2026 Claude ban wave. The launch spike came from a Chinese X blogger's repost. It keeps growing because it turned "anti-ban" from a checklist you have to remember into a hard switch that blocks launch unless every check passes.
### 1. Data
- The repo was created 2026-10-14, and the author's account has only this one repo (data card owner_repos=1). At 11-06:1,585 stars and 158 forks, the fork-to-star ratio is about 10%, normal for a new repo. Our suspect field for the repo is empty.
- Curve (our github repo_day):
    - 10-14: only 2 stars → 10-17 183 stars (+181 over three days, source not found)
    - 10-20 233 → **10-21 540 (+307, single-day high)** → 10-22 712 (+172)
    - 10-26 +113, 10-27 +136 (reposts on nodeseek those days, and explainx published an English article)
    - 10-30 +104, then +20 to +60 daily; last 7 days +313, previous 7 days +516, now cooling off
- The repo is still active: between 10-14 and 11-05 it shipped more than a dozen releases from v1.0 to v1.9, and outside contributors submitted PRs (Windows FlClash port auto-discovery #36/#37, Linux desktop #40, atomic updates #38). The README says the WeChat group has over 200 members; you can now only join by adding the author's personal WeChat.
### 2. Why now: a platform event
- **A wave of Claude account bans hit in October 2026.** Media ran stories like "In the first half of 2026, Claude banned 11.4M accounts, and only 42k appeals were overturned" (Sina Finance 2026-10-11 [finance.sina.com.cn/tech/roll/2026-10-11/doc-iniuvxsc5697638…](https://finance.sina.com.cn/tech/roll/2026-10-11/doc-iniuvxsc5697638.shtml); Zhihu [zhuanlan.zhihu.com/p/2098028876110770646](https://zhuanlan.zhihu.com/p/2098028876110770646)). On X, someone said this round during National Day also mass-banned "two-year-old accounts and freshly topped-up Max plans" (@AYi_AInotes [x.com/AYi_AInotes/status/2106639522586829094](https://x.com/AYi_AInotes/status/2106639522586829094)).
- At the same time, a rumor spread that the new client version would use STUN to probe WebRTC and the network exit (verbatim from a nodeseek repost). That made "a node blips, traffic jumps to direct connection, and the account is gone" the scenario everyone feared. claude-switcher's pitch is exactly this: a hand-written STUN WebRTC probe plus an emergency kill switch on network loss.
- This wave of open-source "anti-ban" projects appeared almost in the same week: CCBaga created its repo 10-11, claude-switcher 10-14, Claude-Guardian 10-15. The opening line of A-Lin's tweet was "How many open-source projects have bans produced by now."
### 5. Differentiation, and whether that's why it broke out
- **Differentiation: fail-closed, meaning if checks fail it won't launch, and if the proxy drops it kills the process.** Most similar tools are detectors (check-cc, various web check pages), cleaners / fingerprinters (CCBaga), guides / Skills (Claude-Guardian), or plain account switchers (claude-swap). claude-switcher turns these checks into a gate you must pass before launch, adds a resident daemon (10-second patrols, watching both the kernel process and the TUN interface), self-heals config drift (if a software update changes the timezone or TUN, it changes it back), and isolates multiple accounts with snapshots.
- **Packaging is part of the differentiation too** : engineering-flavored terms like "Block-on-Fail," "hand-written STUN stack," "Kill-Switch," "zero dependencies," and "single-file SwiftUI," plus a "battle-tested" log, make it seem more credible than rivals. A-Lin's tweet turned these into three plain-language sentences, and that's what got it reposted.
- **Is that why it took off?** Mostly, yes. The line "kill Claude immediately when the proxy drops" answers the thing everyone feared most in this ban wave (a node blip that jumps to direct connection and gets you banned). Rivals at the same time had similar or even higher star counts (CCBaga 3.4k), which shows the demand was pulled up by the ban wave as a whole. claude-switcher got a slice by owning this positioning, not by monopolizing the demand.
### 6. How many people know about it
It's circulating within small circles. Two Chinese AI bloggers on X reposted it (alin_zone, wlzh), it was mentioned in nodeseek, learnku, and Linux.do guides, and English coverage is limited to one explainx article. No major media coverage, and no revenue involved (AGPL open source, free). The space is already crowded: at least 5 similar open-source projects appeared within a month, plus a batch of star-farming repos selling anti-ban virtual cards (the CoreGold series).
### 7. Copycats
- Lee-xeo/Claude-Cage (created 10-31, 149 stars; 11-05 V2EX post "Claude anti-ban tool," 4,614 views): puts Claude in a lightweight VM, with the same WebRTC/DNS/IPv6 leak detection that cuts the network when checks fail, plus automatic multi-account scheduling.
- elioinvest/Crew (10-28), sunreview/anti-claude (10-22), l2461090/claude-post-ban-cleanup (10-02), and others are all small anti-ban projects from the same wave.
- In timing, CCBaga and Claude-Guardian appeared around the same time as it did. Nobody copied anyone.
### 8. What others can learn
1. When platform risk controls tighten or a ban wave hits, "turning a checklist into a hard switch" gets reposted more readily than writing another guide. Users want something they don't have to remember.
2. The README builds trust with an engineering narrative plus battle logs. Preparing an AGENTS.md meant to be handed straight to an AI for installation also lowers the technical barrier.
3. Proactively prepare a one-line pitch for KOLs and communities (the "help spread the word" section in the README already does this), then use the WeChat group to keep scattered users together.
4. Ship all three platforms at once and absorb community PRs quickly, so the project looks like it's constantly being updated.
### 9. Still unclear
- Where did the first 181 stars come from in the first three days? (My guess is the author's first post on Linux.do or shares in private communities. Not verified.)
- I couldn't get the exact engagement numbers for the alin_zone tweet, so the causation rests on timing alone.
- Real usage: I didn't check macOS Release download counts (GitHub API rate-limited). Whether the tool actually works (whether it reduces bans) can't be verified; commenters on nodeseek also questioned whether it gets targeted after going open source, and whether bans mostly hinge on IP and payment method.
- Compliance risk: this kind of tool helps people get around regional restrictions, which conflicts with Anthropic's terms. The README itself carries a disclaimer saying it must not be used to circumvent regional restrictions. The project could be reported or taken down at any time.
