"A complete rebuild, and much stronger": Huashu built an open-source stand-in for Claude Motion, 19 days, 2,400 stars

What it is A skill you install into Claude Code or Codex, plus an editor. Say one sentence and the agent uses code to make a product launch video with music and sound effects, and you can click on the frame to change just that spot.

Why it took off The author Huashu already had a 117k-star audience, and he framed it as "rebuilding the enterprise-only Claude Motion, but better." He rode trending topics by making launch videos for DeepSeek, Grok Bot, and TrustMRR that people mistook for official ones. Later, an English "free video skills" list post brought a second wave.

CHow you could follow Stop building video skills, and learn its playbook instead: when a big company launches a paid-only feature, build an open, local clone with one extra capability within 1 to 2 weeks, use unofficial finished pieces about the week's hot product as demos, launch in Chinese, and let an English list post carry the second wave.

C grade: There are already five or six "agent-made launch video" skills, all earlier, and even creators with traffic like 归藏 and 鱼皮 only got a few hundred stars. Its stars mostly came from Huashu's own audience, which followers can't access. What can be taken is only the playbook of "cloning a big company's paid feature." It's circulating in small circles

On Oct 8, Anthropic released Claude Motion, available only to enterprise users; 10 days later, Huashu put a free, locally running open-source version that also composes music on GitHub. By Nov 6, huashu-motion had 2,407 stars. How it got them is clear and hard to replicate: half from the author himself, half from a playbook he had already used twice. Building a video skill to chase stars on this path is now late; what's worth taking is the playbook.

Day one, scrap and restart

The README's last section is titled "The story behind it." Huashu writes that after Claude Motion launched, he told Claude Code to start work with a single demand: "Our skill needs to fully replicate Claude Motion's capabilities, and be much stronger!"

What came out on day one had an editor, version control, and over a hundred tests, and the sample was a 19-second 3D city with smooth camera moves. His own verdict was "very boring." He had Claude review the project, and the conclusion was: "It built an engineering effort that proves it isn't lying, but it doesn't yet have a work people want to share." That same day, he scrapped it and started over.

On the evening of Oct 18, the WeChat account "花叔" published "Huashu-motion officially launched!", and on X, @AlchainHust posted at the same time: "A skill so convincing it was mistaken for an official product promo."

What it is

An Agent Skill you install into Claude Code or Codex, plus a command-line tool and a browser editor called om. Tell it "make a launch video for my product," and the agent writes an index.html with GSAP, Canvas, and Three.js, then renders it into a video with music and sound effects. No video generation model is called; every frame is code.

Compared with similar tools, it adds three things:

  • Write the score first, then shoot: The agent first writes a plain-text score in ABC notation, with markers aligned to each scene's cut points, then plays it with sampled piano, strings, and drums, adding a sound effect to every element as it lands.
  • Point at the frame and edit: In the editor, press C, click something on screen, and write something like "this isn't good." The comment is sent to the agent with the timestamp, element, and source location, and only that spot changes. This was built directly against Claude Motion.
  • Director rules from testing: He measured 21 launch videos from companies like Apple, Nothing, Linear, and Anthropic with FFmpeg, broke down 142 high-engagement videos, and distilled 20 motion languages. Before starting, he writes a pacing sheet, with "a hook within 3 seconds."

How the stars came

Daily star counts (GitHub, 10-19 to 11-06) show two waves:

DateCumulative starsAdded that day
10-19156
10-20872+716
10-211,124+252
10-301,885+22
11-032,093+93
11-042,227+134
11-062,407+65

The first wave was driven by the author himself. On launch day and the day after, he posted several unofficial launch videos for other people's products: the DeepSeek V4.1 Flash one, which he said "many people thought was DeepSeek's official promo"; the Grok Bot one, "I think it's already better than the official versions I've seen"; and on Oct 19, one for TrustMRR, for @marclou, the top overseas indie-dev voice, captioned "the prompt just had the website link dropped in." The next day it added 716 stars in one day. Whether marclou reposted it wasn't checked. On Oct 21, when Claude Duet launched, he made another that day, saying it "seems tighter than the official one."

The second wave came from English list posts. On Nov 1, Charlie Hills posted on X "GitHub is blowing up with free skills that turn Claude Code into a video studio," with huashu-motion at #2; afterward, Reddit r/claudeskills and two Substack posts also listed it. From 11-02, daily gains went from twenty or thirty back to around a hundred. What got singled out was exactly the two features "write the score first" and "point at the frame and edit." The author also posted new content in the same period, and it's unclear how much each contributed.

There are two small hooks. One: the end credit. Export with om share, and for clips over 4 seconds, the last 1.2 seconds show a line in the corner, "Made with huashu-motion", in the clip's own font and colors. Don't want it? Just say so and it's turned off. Two: the README lays out the original prompts and details like "a clip with DeepSeek Flash costs only 1.95 yuan," which lowers the worry that only Opus can do it.

No sign of star-farming, sockpuppets, or ads. Forks 242, about 10% of stars, which is normal.

The real fuel is Hua Shu himself

Hua Shu has 53 repos on GitHub, 117k stars in total: Nuwa skill 37.7k, huashu-design 28.9k. His X bio literally says "holds 100k+ GitHub 🌟" and "Kitten fill light App Store Top Paid #1." A new skill passing 1k on day 3 is normal for him. Compared with his own repos, huashu-motion is one of the weaker launches.

A useful comparison: two other Chinese AI-circle creators with real reach. Guijian built a "product promo video skill" (with original music), created around Sep 18 and at 11-06 sits at 907 stars. Programmer Yupi built "one sentence, product promo video", created around Oct 9 and at 449 stars. The ideas are nearly identical, both came before him, and they have a third and a fifth of his stars. (Inference: the gap comes from Hua Shu's pull in the "AI skills" niche, not only from the product.)

Usage also suggests the stars are mostly spectators: on the release page, the four v0.1.0 sample clips were downloaded 495 times total, and the five v0.2.0 clips 354 times. Only 3 issues. The real craft (composing, point-and-edit) is why English lists agree to include it and people stick around, not why it took off.

How crowded is this track?

Very, and it's late to the game. "Coding agents make videos with code" started when Remotion released official skills in January 2026. After Opus 5.5 video went viral on X in late September, dozens of repos appeared. Star counts for 11-06:

Five or six projects already position themselves as "product launch videos." If Anthropic's official Claude Motion opens to individual users, the "free stand-in" story disappears too.

If it were you

C. Worth learning from, but don't compete here. Building another "agent makes launch videos" skill will most likely land in the few-hundred-star range. Hua Shu's stars come mostly from the trust he built over 117k stars, which you don't have.

Who it's for: people who want stars for an open-source project, already have some audience (a few thousand followers on X or a WeChat Official Account), and can ship within a week of a big-company launch. Learn the playbook, not the category.

Who it's not for: anyone building yet another video or motion skill (five or six projects with the same positioning already exist, and they're earlier); anyone with no launch channel who expects GitHub alone to push them up.

How: watch for features big companies just launched that are only for paying or enterprise users. Within 1 to 2 weeks, ship an open-source, local version that any agent can install. The first README line: "Recreates X, and adds Y." Hua Shu has run this twice: Claude Design → huashu-design, Claude Motion → huashu-motion. Y should be something the official version lacks and that shows in screenshots (he composes music). Before shipping, check yourself: "is there work people want to repost?" If not, start over.

How to get users: use "unofficial" finished clips of the hottest product that week, with hooks like "mistaken for official" and "better than the official one." Demo a product from a big KOL and give them a reason to repost. Keep a removable "Made with" credit in the output. Launch in Chinese, and prepare an English README so it gets picked up by the English "N free skills" list posts for a second wave.

When it's too late: the window is measured in days. If nothing ships within two weeks of the official feature launch, someone else (or the company itself) takes the spot.

Signs you've misread it: ① the next open-source project that recreates a big company's paid feature has few followers but still passes 1k stars in two weeks, meaning the playbook matters more than the person, so push harder on it; ② conversely, Hua Shu's next skill with the same formula only reaches one or two thousand stars, meaning the narrative is already worn out; ③ once Claude Motion opens to Pro/Max users, huashu-motion's daily gains fall to single digits and stay there, meaning stars earned by the "free stand-in" fade faster than they were built.

huashu-motion (alchaincyf / Hua Shu): why it took off

Channel: GitHub. Data as of 2026-11-06. The star curve comes from our github database (repo_day, daily since 2026-10-19); other sources are in the linked items.

One line

huashu-motion is an Agent Skill with a CLI and a browser editor (om). Install it in Claude Code or Codex, describe a clip in one sentence, and you get a product launch film with music and sound effects. The visuals are HTML written with GSAP/Canvas/Three.js. The music is an ABC score written by the agent, played with samples. To edit, you click on the frame and type a note.

Conclusion: it took off mainly because of Hua Shu as a distribution source. He is the top Chinese AI-skill KOL on GitHub, with 117k stars in total, and a WeChat article plus an X launch can bring in volume. Add his usual playbook: Anthropic launched Claude Motion, available only to Team/Enterprise, so he open-sourced a "recreated and stronger" version. He also rode the launch heat of DeepSeek, Grok Bot, and Claude Duet by making "convincing" launch clips of their products as demos. The product has real differences too: directing methodology, automatic music, and point-to-edit. But the track was already crowded in late September, so it's a late entrant.

2. Competitors: who else does the same thing

"Coding agents make videos with code" started when Remotion released official skills in January 2026. After Opus 5.5 video went viral on X in late September, dozens of repos appeared at once. Star counts below are as of 2026-11-06 (github repo / GitHub API):

Verdict: none of them lack competitors; if anything, the category is badly crowded. Just for 'product launch film skills' there are cinetic, guizang, ai-promo-video-maker, product-launch-motion and take-one. huashu-motion has the most stars of the group, but it was built 3 to 4 weeks later than most of them.

3. Growth levers: where users came from (with evidence)

  1. Author's own channels, first release (confirmed): on 10-18 evening, the WeChat Official Account 'Huashu' published 'Huashu-motion officially released!' (mirror), and on X @AlchainHust posted that he had 'made a skill that passes for an official product promo film' (X 10-18). His X bio reads 'holds 100k+ GitHub 🌟, Nuwa.skill 30000+ stars, Kitten Fill Light App Store Top Paid #1, Claude Code orange-book WeChat Reading hot search #1', which is ready-made credibility.
  2. Riding trends: making 'fan films' for other people's products (confirmed):
    • When DeepSeek V4.1 Flash 10-17 launched, he made a launch film with Opus 5.5 the same day; the article says 'many people thought it was DeepSeek's official promo film'.
    • He made an unofficial film for Grok Bot, saying 'I think it's already better than the official versions I've seen' (X 10-18).
    • 10-19 made a promo film for @marclou's TrustMRR; 'the prompt was just the website link dropped in' (X 10-19). This move names the top indie-dev voice in the overseas community, which makes the demo the easiest to pitch and gives a chance of being reposted by him. 10-20 single-day +716 came right after this, but whether marclou reposted it is unverified. Another @byCanen 10-19 also relayed the TrustMRR case (X).
    • Claude Duet 10-21 launched (Reuters), he made a film the same day with the caption 'seems more refined than the official one' (X 10-22), and 10-22 later a release shipped with that film included.
  3. 'Cloning a big company's paid feature' narrative (confirmed): same playbook as April reverse-engineering Claude Design to build huashu-design (28.9k stars). Claude Motion was only open to Team/Enterprise, and his stated goal was 'fully replicate Claude Motion's capabilities, and make it much stronger' (README 'the story behind it'). Around the same time people made YouTube videos like 'Claude Motion only for enterprise? I cloned it on Max with an open-source skill', showing this is a recognized traffic angle.
  4. Watermark spreads the work (confirmed): for films over 4 seconds, a line 'Made with huashu-motion' appears at the end (search snippet citing the README). When users post the films to X or Douyin, they are advertising it for free.
  5. Chinese reposts and aggregator sites (confirmed): Duan Yi's notes (10-25), working-ref (10-26), Yunzhan community, baoshare (11-01), aiyqx reposting the official account (11-02), InferNews in traditional Chinese (11-03). In English, skill aggregators like explainx, the TypingMind skill page, claude-updates, Devotd and AICrier index it automatically.
  6. English "N free video skills" list post (confirmed, matches the second wave): Charlie Hills 11-01 posted on X "GitHub is blowing up with free skills that turn Claude Code into a video studio", and item 2 on the list is huashu-motion (X 11-01). After that came Reddit r/claudeskills "9 Claude skills for motion design" (about 11-03) and two Substack lists (11-04, 11-05). The timing fits the rise that picked up again around 11-02 and climbed to 100+. The author 11-02 also posted a new one around the same time, "用huashu-motion给Deepseek…" ("Using huashu-motion for Deepseek…"), which Design Radar picked up; I haven't read its content.
  7. Cross-promotion within the author's projects (inferred): the READMEs of huashu-art-motion (10-06), huashu-design and the huashu-skills master index each link to the author's other projects; the WeChat article also promoted his FanBox editor.
  8. No evidence found of ads, star-buying or sock-puppet accounts. The fork/star ratio of 10% is normal, and the suspect flag is empty (github library).

4. Why it took off

  • Strong distribution source: the same author's 53 repos have 117k stars combined. A new skill from him passed 1k within 3 days, the same way huashu-art-motion and huashu-design took off. KOLs with similar Chinese reach like Guizang and Yuzi got only 907 and 449 stars with similar skills, which shows KOL reach alone isn't enough; Huashu's pull in the 'AI skill' niche is clearly stronger.
  • Timing: the official side educated the market but kept most people out. Claude Motion launched 10-08, enterprise-only; 10 days later he shipped a free, local, open-source alternative that can even compose music.
  • The demo material is itself the distribution. Launch films are the most attractive format to repost on X and Douyin. He chose the hottest products of the week (DeepSeek, Grok Bot, Claude Duet, TrustMRR) for fan films, each one riding a trend. 'Mistaken for an official film' is the strongest hook.
  • The product has substance, enough to survive second-hand recommendations in the English community: point-and-edit on the frame, and writing the score before shooting, are both singled out by English lists like Charlie Hills'. The English README and the DeepSeek Flash case that cost only ¥1.95 also reduced the worry of 'you need Opus'.

5. Differentiation, and whether that's why it took off

Compared with similar tools, it differs in three ways:

  1. Composer mode: the agent writes ABC notation, plays it with real instrument samples, marks the score to line up with scene cuts, and adds 23 kinds of sound effects. Most similar tools only add stock BGM, or no sound at all. Guizang's skill also has original music, so this is not unique.
  2. Click-on-the-frame editor plus an inbox (om studio / om inbox): comments carry the timestamp, element and source location to the agent, which changes only that spot; common parameters also become input boxes you can edit yourself. This directly matches Claude Motion, which is rare among open-source peers.
  3. Director rules come from testing: he measured the cut points, beats and loudness of 21 big-company launch films, dissected 142 films, and organized 20 motion languages. It requires writing a rhythm sheet before starting, and has om check / om qa for automatic error catching. The emphasis is 'serve the product', not flashy motion.

These differences are why people stay and recommend it, not why it grew. Growth came from the author's traffic, plus the 'replicate Claude Motion' narrative and trend-riding fan films. Two data points support this: the single-day peak of +716 came within 48 hours of launch, while sample downloads were only in the hundreds.

6. Visibility

It's circulating in small circles, and the field is already crowded. The Chinese AI community and the X AI-skill crowd know it, and English lists have started to index it; but no mainstream media has covered it, and there are already dozens of similar skills. It's not an unknown opportunity.

7. Copycats

No repo found that directly copies huashu-motion. The video skills created after 10-18 (rea-video, anymove, video-editor-skills, etc.) take different directions. In reverse, it is itself a latecomer in this track: cinetic, guizang and ai-promo-video-maker all came earlier.

8. What others can learn

  • Within 1 to 2 weeks of a big company releasing a feature that is paid-only or enterprise-only, build an open-source, local version usable by any agent that 'replicates and surpasses' it. Huashu's approach has been validated twice (Claude Design for huashu-design, Claude Motion for huashu-motion).
  • Use an 'unofficial launch film' of the week's hottest product as the demo, with hooks like 'better than the official one' and 'mistaken for the official film'; name the products of big-name voices (TrustMRR / marclou) and ask them to repost.
  • Keep a removable 'Made with xxx' end credit in the finished film, turning it into a viral loop.
  • Publish the original prompts in the README (typos included), the cost (¥1.95), and an honest 'limitations' section. This lowers the barrier for others to try it and adds credibility.
  • After the Chinese launch, have the English README ready, so the English 'N free skills' list posts can pick it up for a second wave of traffic.

9. Still unclear

  • Which post drove the +716 on 10-20: whether marclou reposted, and the view count on the X post, are unverified (neither x-radar nor our x library captured @AlchainHust).
  • Whether the recovery from 11-02 came from Charlie Hills' and other English lists, from the author's 11-02 DeepSeek thread, or from both, can't be separated.
  • Real usage is unknown: npx skills install counts aren't available; sample downloads are only in the hundreds; there are only 3 issues (one a Windows rendering error). That shows some people actually installed it, but not at scale.
  • Output on Douyin and WeChat Channels using it was not checked (the author said the Claude Duet film would go to Douyin; its play count is unverified).
