One photo, turned into a talking-head video: the digital-human Skill's 1,800 stars, most of them from the author's own followers

What it is An open-source Skill for agents like Claude Code and Codex. Give it one photo and one sentence, and it uses Renoise to generate a talking digital-human clip, then checks quality locally, fixes the audio, and wraps it in 48 blogger-grade packaging components to cut a talking-head video.

Why it blew up The author is Berryxia, a Chinese AI-video account with 53.5k followers. He pre-announced it a week ahead and posted a video tweet plus a long article on launch day. It also served as a showcase for Renoise's new MCP, carried official UTM tracking, and was built into the official MCP 3 days later. Aggregator sites and Chinese repost accounts amplified it further.

CHow you could follow Don't build yet another digital-human Skill. Copy its playbook: when a new generation platform launches an MCP, be first to ship a showcase Skill for it, pre-announce, release a demo video and long article on the same day, and push for official built-in status. If you do build a similar one, compete on cost and Windows support it lacks, but without your own traffic you won't get stars.

Grade C: the stars came mainly from the author's large account and joint promotion with the platform, which followers can't replicate. The theme isn't scarce. Similar projects from three months earlier gained only 6 stars a week, and a copycat that got reposted by the original author still only reached 56 stars in 6 days. What's worth learning is the launch cadence and the approach of making a showcase for a new platform. Being passed around in small circles

In late October 2026, an open-source Skill that turns "one photo plus one sentence" into an AI-agent-cut talking-head video picked up about 1,800 stars in 11 days. It surged within three days, mainly because its author has over 50k followers on X, plus joint promotion from the video-generation platform Renoise. The product itself was a secondary factor. Someone had built a similar Skill three months earlier, and it now gains only 6 stars a week. Below: what it is, where the stars came from, and how much you could realistically get by copying the approach.

Noon, Oct 26: a "remember to Star it" post

At 2026 on 26 Oct 12 Beijing time, 34, GitHub account andyhuo520 created a repo called digital-human-koubo. 13 minutes later, Berryxia.AI (@berryxia, ~53.5k followers, bio reads "AI video · digital humans · ad content creation"), a Chinese AI video creator on X, pinned a video post: "Long time coming... weeks of grinding, thousands of dollars spent... open source and free... remember to Star." An hour and a half later he published an X long-form post titled "I'm open-sourcing for free the digital human workflow Skills I polished over weeks and spent thousands of dollars on!", walking step by step through quoting, quality checks, and packaging components. The post ends with two links: the first is a Renoise signup page, and only the second is GitHub.

andyhuo520 is Berryxia himself. That afternoon, AlphaSignal's report stated it plainly: "Berryxia, also known as andyhuo520." He had been teasing it a week earlier: "Folks, a major release of the digital-human production tutorial next Monday... I'll open-source my skills for free."

What it is

In one sentence: A set of instructions and scripts for agents like Claude Code and Codex. You give it a photo and a sentence, and the agent uses Renoise to generate a talking digital-human clip, then checks quality, fixes audio, and edits on your machine to output a packaged talking-head video.

The first screen of the README shows a 27-second livestream-sales ad. No real person appears; the face, voice, livestream room, subtitles, and price animations are all AI-made. The only input was one sentence: "Use this digital human to make a 30-second livestream ad for the WorkBuddy course, 10 lessons, ¥99, original price ¥999." Total cost: "482 Renoise credits."

The real effort goes into what happens after generation:

  • Quote first, then spend: the agent reports "how many segments, how many seconds, how many credits, what balance remains" and waits for your go-ahead. It generates the first segment for you to review, then batch-generates the rest once you confirm.
  • Quality checks: each segment is transcribed with whisper and compared against the script, and 4 frames are sampled from each clip, because Grok-generated videos sometimes burn subtitles into the picture. Those clips have to be reshot.
  • Unified voice: the 30 separately generated audio segments get spectral matching, de-essing, and the same room reverb applied. The README says sibilance fluctuation dropped from 13.2 dB to 5.9 dB.
  • 48 packaging components: the author says they were broken down frame by frame from videos by MrBeast, MKBHD, Yingyi Fengbao, He Tongxue, Banfo Xianren, Huijiaoqi and 25 other top creators, covering 5 editing styles, rendered with Remotion.
  • The cover is the first frame: it's stitched into the first 0.5 seconds of the video. Platforms use the first frame as the thumbnail, so no separate cover upload is needed.

It ships with no models of its own. All generation goes through Renoise (default Grok Video 1.5), and editing runs locally. The "text behind the person" effect uses Apple's matting, so it only works on macOS.

Source: GitHub daily stars (as of 11-06); forks over the same period grew from 145 to 406.

Three forces stacked together:

The author's own main account. Teased a week ahead, posted a video tweet 13 minutes after the repo went up, then a long post an hour and a half later. The next day it had 500+ stars. He used the same playbook earlier to launch several repos: aetherviz-master at 1,676 stars, MacCheck at 907 stars, and 10-28 later released another video Skill, vibe-knowledge, which is still climbing at 515 stars.

The platform promoted it too. Every Renoise link in the README carries utm_source=official, and one commit message reads "link Renoise MCP sign-up with UTM tracking". Renoise's MCP launched around late October (dated from tweet timing, inferred). The Skill came out 5 days later, was built into the official MCP 3 days after that, and the author opened a separate renoise-skills repo. The author says "this isn't an ad, it's a sincere recommendation". Whether he was paid or gets a revenue share is unverified, but the partnership itself is confirmed. For Renoise, a free open-source Skill is an acquisition tool: the Skill costs nothing, while every video costs credits.

Aggregators and repost accounts relayed it. AlphaSignal, Upcurrent and trendshift picked it up, a batch of Chinese AI accounts on X reposted it, and then came a string of intro sites and YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels explainers. No discussion found on HN or Reddit. A repo under 60 days old can't enter GitHub trending, so trending didn't contribute here.

Fork rate is about 22%, roughly double the 11% typical for new repos of similar age. The reason is practical: to swap in your own digital human, you have to change the avatar ID in persona.json, so you have to fork or clone it.

Similar tools already existed; the difference is who posted it

The "digital-human talking-head Skill" category itself isn't scarce:

ProjectLaunchedStars (11-06)Compared with alternatives
rachel-digital-human-production2026-071,081, now +6 per weekA talking-head Skill from three months earlier, with no big account and no platform promotion
cyber-xiaoya-live2026-10-24735, +382 in a weekA componentized digital human (Vidu) from the same period, which also relied on its creator's own presence as a Douyin and Bilibili creator

LuoGen-agent2025-10882Fully automated from copy rewriting to publishing, aimed at batch account farms
Duix-Avatar(HeyGem)2024-1216,249Local offline digital-human model; this Skill ships no model

On the commercial side, HeyGen, Synthesia, CapCut digital humans, Chanmian and Shanjian already dominate, all with GUIs and monthly subscriptions.

So differentiation explains only half of it. Price quotes, quality checks and the 48 components gave people a reason to repost ("this is the complete version") and gave the long post and aggregators something to write about. But 1,300 stars in three days came from who was posting and who pushed together.

How much did the copycats get?

  • Lanshu's (@LufzzLiz) lanshu-infinite-stream-koubo, released 11-01, does "infinite stream": one master clip is reused, only lip-synced again (Alibaba Bailian VideoRetalk, 0.08 yuan/second), specifically to solve "regenerating every video is too expensive". Generation also runs through Renoise, and Berryxia reposted it too. As of 11-06 it had 56 stars.
  • Comments already complained about the price: "dozens of yuan for one video... locally deployed models are cheap". Lanshu targeted exactly that gap, the direction is right, yet the stars came in 30 times fewer.

This is the most useful piece of evidence: same topic, same platform, even the original author reposted it, and without its own traffic it still couldn't get stars.

If it were you

C. Worth dissecting the release cadence, but building a single similar Skill will most likely not earn the same stars. Those 1,800 stars came mainly from the author's 50k+ followers plus joint platform promotion, and followers can't copy either. Similar Skills already existed, and copycats got only a few dozen stars.

Who it suits: indie developers who already have tens of thousands of followers on X, Bilibili or Xiaohongshu and create AI-tool content; or people who can talk to a generation platform that just launched an MCP.

Who it doesn't suit: solo developers without their own audience who hope to collect stars by "building another digital-human talking-head Skill".

How to do it:

  1. Copy the playbook, not the subject. As soon as a new generation platform (video, music, 3D, voice-over) ships an MCP, go to them and offer to build its launch "showcase Skill": they get sample workflows, you get first-mover traffic and an official repost.
  2. Copy the release cadence: tease a week ahead → post a demo video right after the repo goes up → long-form tutorial within an hour or two → push for official built-in integration and push again → release a sister Skill within a week.
  3. Put the finished video on the first screen of the README, state the concrete cost ("482 credits"), and use a famous creator's name as the hook.
  4. If you must build a similar tool, do the parts it did poorly: cost (local models or reusing a master clip), running on Windows, and creator style packs in English or Japanese. These gaps are real, but without distribution they'd only become another 56-star repo.

How to acquire users: in the Chinese-speaking circle, use your own X account plus Chinese AI repost accounts, then wait for aggregators like AlphaSignal, Upcurrent and trendshift to pick it up. The English circle is largely untapped: HN and Reddit are empty, so going English means starting with Show HN and a 30-second demo video.

When to move: the "generation platform launches an MCP" wave is still early. Whoever first builds a showcase for a new platform gets the official repost. A few months later every platform has official samples and the slot is gone.

What would show you read it wrong: (1) a similar Skill from someone without a big account, like rachel or Lanshu, takes off without outside promotion. That would mean digital-human talking heads have organic demand on their own and a cheaper version is worth building seriously. (2) Renoise publicly launches a revenue share or partner program for Skill authors. Then "build a showcase Skill for a platform" becomes a path anyone can apply for, and the rating could go higher. (3) Conversely, if this repo stalls under two thousand stars over the next few weeks and nobody among the forkers posts their own finished video, it was a launch event, not a tool people actually used.

andyhuo520/digital-human-koubo: why it got 1800 stars in 11 days

In short: this is an open-source Agent Skill for "digital human talking-head videos" posted by the GitHub alt of Berryxia.AI (@berryxia, about 53.5k followers on X), a big Chinese AI account. He teased it a week ahead. On launch day he pinned a video and posted an X long-form thread to drive traffic. It also serves as the "showcase project" for Renoise's new video-generation MCP. The README and tweet sign-up links carry Renoise's official UTM tags, and three days later a Renoise team member built the Skill into the official MCP. AlphaSignal, trendshift, Upcurrent and a batch of Chinese repost accounts then spread it further. So most of the stars come from the big account's own audience plus joint promotion with the platform. The product itself is solid: it bakes the whole "one photo → finished video" pipeline's pitfalls into the Skill (quote first, quality checks, audio fixes, packaging). That makes it worth sharing, but it isn't the main reason it took off.

1. Data (data card + our GitHub library, as of 2026-11-06)

  • Repo created 2026-10-26 04:34 UTC, 11 days ago, 1805 stars / 406 forks (live GitHub check: 1846 / 423). Fork-to-star ratio is about 22%, versus a median of about 11% for same-age new repos, which suggests an unusually high share of people actually cloning and running it (you need a Renoise account and must edit persona.json, so you have to fork or clone to use it).
  • Daily stars: 10-27 528 → 10-28 1171 (+643 in one day, the peak during observation) → 10-29 1325 → 10-31 1547 → 11-03 1720 → 11-06 1805. Growth is concentrated in the first 3 days, after which it adds 30–90 per day. gain_7d 351, status "newly surfaced", suspect empty (no star-farming signals found in the library).
  • Code: 7 commits, first released 10-26, last push 10-31 (Style A template, default cover). Author "Andy / andyhuo520", commits carry Co-Authored-By: Claude.
  • The author has more hits than this one: aetherviz-master 1676★ (2026-02), MacCheck 907★ (2026-07), vibe-knowledge 515★ (2026-10-28, also a video Skill, +157 in one day at 11-04, still climbing). That points to a repeatable "big-account launch → stars" playbook.

2. Why it took off

2.1 The author is the big account: Berryxia.AI = andyhuo520

  • AlphaSignal's write-up states outright: "Berryxia, also known as andyhuo520, released the MIT-licensed project" (https://alphasignal.ai/news/open-source-digital-human-koubo-turns-a-script-into-a-polished-ai-presenter , 2026-10-26).
  • @berryxia's X profile: 53.5K followers, bio "AI video · digital humans · ad content creation" (https://x.com/berryxia , fetched via jina 2026-11-06). He has also funneled traffic to andyhuo520's other repos before (tweets for tang-changan and vibe-knowledge link to this GitHub).
  • Teaser: a week before launch he tweeted "Bros, next Monday I'm releasing a full digital-human production tutorial… I'll open-source my skills for free… works with Claude, Codex, Workbuddy, Doubao, Nano Work and Qwen Work."
  • Launch day (10-26 04:47 UTC, 13 minutes after the repo was created): pinned video tweet "Finally here… weeks of work and thousands of dollars spent… open source and free… don't forget to Star" (https://x.com/berryxia/status/2114579756633219416 ).
  • 1.5 hours later, an X long-form post: "I'm open-sourcing for free the digital-human workflow Skills I polished over weeks and thousands of dollars!" Step by step: quote 482 credits, two quality checks, 48 components… The first link at the end is the Renoise MCP sign-up, the second is GitHub (https://x.com/berryxia/status/2114602108012073295 ).
  • The pitch hits the mark: the Chinese self-media crowd already wants "digital-human talking heads to start an account," and he says in the thread "I've been getting a lot of messages this week." Users include talking-head creators, companies running daily-post accounts, and B2B digital-human sellers.

2.2 Platform joint promotion: the showcase project for Renoise MCP

  • Every Renoise link in the README carries utm_medium=xcom&utm_source=official, and commit 4 is titled "link Renoise MCP sign-up with UTM tracking." The demo video costs are also quoted in "Renoise credits."
  • Renoise announced the MCP on X around late October (tweet ID 2112842946035003812, estimated at about 10-21 from the snowflake ID; estimate, not verified). The Skill launched 5 days later. The timing looks like a new product launch paired with a KOL premiere sample.
  • 10-29 Berryxia posted: "The Renoise team's @niki2ai has built my digital-human Skills into the official MCP... This isn't an ad, it's a genuine recommendation" (https://x.com/berryxia/status/2115765838481612964 ). The same day, @niki2ai posted: "The Renoise MCP just made the DJI Pocket 4P I'd just bought obsolete."
  • Was it paid: the author states "this is not an ad", but there are official UTM links, the official team cooperated, and the author 10-28 also opened a renoise-skills repo ("Production-grade video skills for AI agents"), so the partnership is confirmed. Whether they were paid is unverified.
  • How the money comes back: the Skill is free and MIT-licensed, and all generation runs on Renoise credits (one 27-second ad costs 482 credits). For Renoise it's a customer-acquisition tool; for the author it's stars, reputation and a Renoise partnership (possibly referral fees too).

2.3 Second wave: aggregators and repost accounts

  • AlphaSignal news post (10-26 11:52 UTC, launch day).
  • Upcurrent Daily 10-28 headline "digital-human-koubo leads Wednesday, October 28", score 95 (https://buttondown.com/anmolsrivastavadev/archive/upcurrent-digital-human-koubo-leads-wednesday/). That's the same day as the single-day +643.
  • Listed on trendshift.io (320447, tagged AI video generation); its take on 10-26: "☆1230≈535☆/day."
  • Chinese X repost accounts: @jojogh_007 Alex Zhang (10-27, "only about 1 days since it appeared on GitHub and it's already at around ★710… you can copy from here"), @weiwei2018831 魏咕咕响, Geek Lite, and others.
  • Long-tail SEO and content sites: hermes-ai.net, waveweaver.io, viralagent.si, fengdaoai.com, bitmeow.ai, doc.gpt88.cc, olio.my, explainx.ai, plus YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels and Facebook video explainers (found via Jina search; all dated after 10-27).
  • No HN or Reddit discussion found. In our local x-radar corpus these terms each show 0 hits (this batch of Chinese accounts may fall outside the corpus coverage). GitHub trending skips repos under 60 days old, so trending didn't contribute.

2.4 Why people stay and fork

  • Low barrier: "one photo + one sentence." It claims support for Claude Code, Codex, OpenClaw, WorkBuddy, Doubao, Qwen, Nano Work and other domestic and foreign agents, which covers the Chinese self-media crowd just starting to use agents.
  • The pitfalls are already handled: quote first and wait for the user's OK; show the 1st segment for confirmation before batching; re-listen with Whisper; sample 4 frames per segment to catch subtitles Grok burns into the picture; normalize audio across 30 segments (sibilance variance 13.2→5.9 dB); build the cover straight from the first frame. These are lessons you only learn after doing dozens of videos.
  • "Dissected 25 top creator videos → 48 packaging components": MrBeast, Shadow Storm (影视飓风), He Tong (何同学), Bànfó (半佛), Paperclip (回形针)… the names themselves are a hook.
  • Fork rate 22%: to swap in your own avatar you have to change the material ID in persona.json, so you have to fork or clone it.

4. Copycats

  • cclank/lanshu-infinite-stream-koubo (Lanshu @LufzzLiz, 2026-11-01): "infinite-stream digital-human talking heads," reusing one master clip and only re-syncing lip movement (Bailian VideoRetalk, ¥0.08 per second), aimed at the pain point that regenerating full video every time is too expensive. Generation also runs on Renoise, and Berryxia helped repost it. At 11-06 it had 56★.
  • jaxxchen003/digital-human-video-production: a general-purpose digital-human video Skill (few stars).
  • Renoise officially built this one into its MCP and paired it with @niki2ai's talking-head editing Skill, which amounts to the platform absorbing the category.
  • Commenters are already questioning the cost (@Jaybert888: "a single video costs tens of yuan... locally deployed H3 models are cheap"). Lao Shu's "unlimited flow" comes in precisely through that gap.

5. Differentiation

  • Versus SaaS: open source, driven by one sentence inside an agent. Post-production (unified voice, 48 components, 5 styles, the cover as the first frame) makes it more of a finished piece than GUI products like HeyGen.
  • Versus open-source digital-human models: it doesn't touch the model. It only handles the production steps after generation, turning QA and packaging into code.
  • Why it took off: half of it is. Similar Skills already existed (Rachel's from July has 1081★ and now only gains 6 a week), so "digital-human talking-head Skill" as a category isn't scarce. This repo reached 1300★ in three days mainly thanks to Berryxia's 50k followers, early teasers, a long-form tutorial, and Renoise's joint promotion. The differentiators (packaging components, quality checks, quoting) made people sharing it feel "this time it's the complete version," and gave aggregator sites material they were willing to write about.

6. What others can learn

  1. Big account + first MCP launch on a new platform: the platform wants a showcase workflow, the KOL wants content and stars, the open-source Skill is free, and the money flows back to platform credits (with UTM).
  2. Launch cadence: a week of advance teasers → video promo posted right after the repo goes up → long-form article within 1.5 hours → official built-in 3 days later, another push → then a sister Skill (vibe-knowledge) to ride the traffic.
  3. The README hooks with a GIF wall of finished videos, "total cost 482 credits," and concrete numbers and names like "we dissected MrBeast / Shiguang Fenglei."
  4. Writing "how not to waste money" into the Skill (quote first, generate a sample first) lowers users' wariness about paid generation.

7. Uncertain

  • Whether Renoise and the author have a paid partnership or a commission (the UTM is official, and the author says "this is not an ad").
  • How many users actually run the full pipeline: the fork rate is high, but the cost (tens of yuan per video) and the macOS dependencies will deter some people.
  • The view and share counts for Berryxia's tweets were not captured (X pages can't be viewed while logged out).
  • "Renoise MCP launched around 10-21" is inferred from the tweet IDs.
