A Douyin account with 199 followers, one line "the mountain that boosts frame rate the most," and nearly 20,000 downloads in four days: Pavise's players are on Douyin, and the stars are just the overflow
What it is A free, open-source Windows utility that, while you game, throttles background processes, gives the game exclusive CPU cores, moves interrupts away, and adjusts GPU and power settings, then reverts everything when you exit the match.
Why it took off 11-02 A Douyin account with only 199 followers posted a 56-second screen recording that got 20k likes and 17k saves. Then a dozen-plus resource accounts copied the copy word for word and spread it across Douyin and Bilibili. Chinese-language, one-click, no injection, and revert-on-exit packaging gave resource accounts the confidence to push it and beginners the nerve to click.
BHow you could follow Take a hardcore tool that already exists in the English community but has no one-click version in Chinese, and make a beginner-friendly Chinese edition. Shoot your own 40-second screen recording and a catchy line that's easy to copy, then hand the material to "one GitHub gem a day" style resource accounts; put a star request at the top of the README for people who download it.

Pavise is a free, open-source Windows "game resource manager" built by an individual developer in Shanghai, accepting only voluntary donations. Its stars rose from over five hundred to over eight hundred in the past week, but behind that gain are tens of thousands of downloads: on Douyin and Bilibili, a batch of "one GitHub gem a day" software resource accounts kept reposting it as a "frame-rate booster," one after another. Below: what it is, how this traffic came about, who it's competing with, how you could get your own open-source project starred the same way, and what it might yield.
A 56-second screen recording
At 9 a.m. Beijing time on Nov 2, 2026, the Douyin account 「吃一颗豆!」 posted a 56-second video. The account has only 199 followers. The caption reads:
The mountain that boosts game frame rate the most: Pavise, one-click for beginners, supports competitive mode, custom mode, GPU policy tuning and system status detection. Once enabled, it can temporarily schedule CPU, memory, disk and background processes, and restores settings automatically on exit. Very useful.
The hashtags were #豆包工作 #豆包 #游戏帧率 #显卡 #三角洲帧率. By Nov 6, the video had 20.6k likes, 17k saves, 7,089 shares and 489 comments (Douyin video page, 11-06). The save count is close to the like count: viewers wanted to come back and download it.
The comments are barely praising it. Mostly people asking: "Will this get my Ducking account banned?" "Laptop player on Where Winds Meet, can I use this? Heard it makes low FPS more stable 4050" "Can I use it for PUBG? I've got a 4060 laptop" "What's the difference from Process?" "Is it paid?" The top-liked comment (46 likes) is a warning: "Seems to clash with Little Yellow Duck. After using it, opening Little Yellow Duck again makes things lag." Others say "Used it, still dropping frames."
Over the next few days, the same line "the mountain that boosts game frame rate the most" was copied word for word: from 11-03 to 11-05, a dozen-plus Bilibili accounts such as "清澈工具箱", "光隐资源库", "极刻推荐", and on Douyin "豆爆丁" (6,130 likes), "叫我姜姜i", "大鱼丸子", etc., posted similar 40 to 60-second screen recordings (Bilibili and Douyin search for "pavise", 11-06).
On GitHub you can see the traffic landing: 11-02 shipped v3.2.0.2, and by 11-06 the zip and exe downloads together came to about 17k, while the checksum file the in-app update check pulls was fetched 6,370 times. 11-06's freshly shipped v3.3.0.7 got 2,406 downloads on day one (GitHub Releases, 11-06). Meanwhile stars went from 11-01's 603 to 11-06's 828: +241 over the last 7 days, versus just +24,11-05 in the first 7 days, and +78 on a single day (GitHub daily star counts). Downloads run dozens of times ahead of stars: the people coming in are players, most don't have a GitHub account, and don't know what a star is.
What it is
A C# Windows utility under GPL-3.0. During gaming, it suppresses background processes, gives the game exclusive CPU cores (distinguishing AMD's CCDs and Intel's P/E cores), moves device interrupts off the game's cores, and sets GPU driver, memory and power policies per game; when the match ends, all changes are reverted. The README says it does not inject and does not collect data; for anti-cheat systems like ACE, EasyAntiCheat and BattlEye it only handles user-mode services and "does not touch kernel anti-cheat drivers."
Beginners get two one-click presets ("author's own setup" and "extreme"); tinkerers get per-game configuration, frame-time and 1% Low display, and logs. There's also the official site pavise.club and tutorials, and the author ships a release roughly every two weeks (10-27, 11-02, 11-06). The README's last paragraph reads: "Pavise is permanently free, donations are entirely voluntary. If you paid for Pavise through another channel, please request a refund from the seller or trading platform." People are already reselling it.
The author, bdth, has 108 followers on GitHub and has built Chinese-community mini programs, a ChatGPT wrapper, and a ComfyUI management platform (788 stars), with experience taking Chinese projects to a few hundred stars.
Where the traffic came from: not GitHub circles, but software resource accounts
Developers barely talked about it: Hacker News, Reddit, V2EX and linux.do returned no discussion, and on X only one resource account, August, posted about it; with the repo under 60 days old, it couldn't make GitHub's trending list. Distribution came in two waves, both on short-video platforms:
| Timeline | What happened | Result |
|---|---|---|
| August (8-02 repo created) | On X, "Weekly Resources" (9,244 views) and Bilibili accounts like "One GitHub Open-Source APP a Day" and "One Free Alternative to Paid GitHub Software a Day" keep posting them; on Douyin someone posted "【008 Issue】Game Frame Rate Optimizer pavise"; download sites, CSDN, and Sohu reprint them as "Issue No. N", and some sites even made "Chinese Portable Edition" versions | By October it had accumulated about 560 stars, then stalled; over the next 10-16 to 10-27 weeks it gained only 7 stars. |
| 10-26 to 11-05 | A Douyin account with 5,759 million followers posted 10-26 and got 1,834 likes; 11-02 "Eat a bean!" went viral, and a dozen-plus accounts copied it word for word. | +241 stars in a week, tens of thousands of downloads |
Why would resource accounts post it? These videos commonly carry hashtags like #豆包 #豆包工作 or #百度搭子 #办公就用dumate, which are creator activity tags for AI products; resource accounts monetize through event traffic, rewards and follower growth (reward rules unverified). A free, open-source, uncomplainable piece of software is a zero-cost, zero-risk topic for them. Pavise itself spent no money; it was carried along by someone else's monetization chain; no evidence was found that the author ran paid promotion.
Why it: the tech isn't novel, the packaging is right
CPU pinning, interrupt affinity and power plans have long been done by veteran gamers:
| Product | What it is | Scale | Compared with Pavise |
|---|---|---|---|
| Process Lasso (players call it "小绿") | Long-established commercial process scheduler | Long-established | General-purpose, paid; Pavise is free, applies automatically per match, and reverts on exit |
| Windows Game Mode, AMD / Intel APO | Built into the OS and vendors | full range | Invisible, can't be tuned |
| Razer Cortex, Wise Game Booster | game boosters | Users: lots | mainly kill processes and clear memory |
| CPUSetSetter / process-governor / GoInterruptPolicy | open-source English utilities | 753 / 828 / 573 stars, single digits a week | each did a piece, in English, never made it into Chinese short videos |
| ThreadPilot | "the open-source Process Lasso" | 63 star | same idea, nobody pushing it |
| open-nexa/cpum, a kernel-level interrupt scheduling tool made by a Bilibili UP | Chinese equivalents | Bilibili videos with two or three thousand views | only in the hardcore circle |
| winutil, Atlas-OS | one-time system debloat | 65k / 22k stars | changes stick, no revert; Pavise only active during matches |
| Lossless Scaling ("Xiao Huangya") | paid frame interpolation on Steam | very popular in the Chinese gamer community | a different frame-boosting route; commenters say running both together stutters |
English equivalents do similar things but stall at a few hundred stars, gaining a few a week. What Pavise adds is packaging that lets resellers push it and beginners click it: Chinese UI, one-click presets, "only active during matches, auto-reverts when the match ends", "no injection, doesn't touch kernel anti-cheat", tailored to Delta Force, Valorant, LoL, WeGame and other domestic games, plus a ready-made recommendation line: "free, open-source, replaces the paid one". 40 seconds of screen recording covers the whole pitch, and the "will it get me banned" worry that fills the comments is answered right in the README.
If it were you
In one line: the thing to learn is this distribution chain: "turn an existing hardcore English-language tool into a one-click Chinese version, and let software resellers on Douyin and Bilibili push it for you." But know what this chain mainly brings: downloads, not stars. Tens of thousands of downloads yielded only a couple hundred stars. Another game optimizer: Pavise already holds that spot.
Who it suits: developers who can build a decent UI for a Windows or desktop utility, willing to write "safe, free, reversible" into the README and the interface, and fine with users mostly not being developers.
Who it doesn't suit: anyone aiming for thousands or tens of thousands of stars (this chain delivers hundreds); anyone who only wants reputation within GitHub, X or HN circles (nobody there knows it); anyone who can't stand comment sections full of "will it get me banned" and "does it even work" and having to answer beginners' questions endlessly.
How to do it, from most to least reliable:
- Switch category: look for hardcore tools that exist in English but have no one-click Chinese version: network latency optimization, GPU driver cleanup, storage cleanup, screen recording, keyboard/mouse macros, monitor color calibration, and similar, where the mainstream has a pain point and the effect can be shown in 40 seconds. First check whether this category has an English library like CPUSetSetter that does the right thing but nobody pushes.
- Do what Pavise didn't: Pavise's gap is "visible effect." The biggest questions in the comments are whether it works, whether it conflicts with Xiao Huangya, and whether it gets you banned. A tool that automatically compares 1% Low before and after a session and publishes a per-game compatibility list, or a version aimed at laptops (the comments are full of 4050 and 4060 laptop owners), is an angle that can catch the same audience.
- Change language: build the same thing as an English or other-language version and pitch it to "free PC tool" accounts on TikTok and YouTube Shorts. Whether the Chinese reseller mechanism has the same scale overseas is unverified; you'd be betting on it yourself.
How to get users: record your own 40–60 second screen capture with a quotable line (Pavise got copied for "the mountain of highest frame-rate boosting"), post it on Douyin and Bilibili, and tag current popular creator campaigns; organize the tutorial, screenshots and download link, and message "one GitHub gem a day"-style reseller accounts so they can post it right away. Host downloads on GitHub Releases and put a line at the top of the README asking users to star the repo, or only about one in a hundred of tens of thousands of downloads will come back. You need a website and in-app updates too, so that when traffic arrives there's a new version ready.
When to move before it's gone: watch whether the activity tags resellers are chasing still exist. When campaigns like the Doubao or Baidu Dazi contributor programs stop, resellers' incentive to pick topics weakens. Meanwhile game optimization has already been run through by Pavise, so if you switch categories, do it before resellers exhaust the "GitHub gem" series.
Signs you misjudged: ① over the next few weeks Pavise's downloads fall off while stars stay at eight or nine hundred, and you see a wave of bans and frame-drop complaints, meaning this kind of "boost" tool doesn't keep users: resellers can push downloads but not reputation; ② another Chinese one-click tool pushed by resellers gets just as many views yet barely gains stars, meaning stars were an accidental spillover and this chain isn't worth it for stars; ③ conversely, someone uses the same playbook in another category and gets several hundred stars in a week, meaning switching categories works and you should move fast.

One line
An open-source Windows "game resource manager" built by Shanghai indie dev bdth (throttles background processes, gives games exclusive cores, interrupt avoidance, per-game GPU/memory/power policies, reverts on exit), C#, GPL-3.0, permanently free, funded by WeChat/Alipay tips. The star surge isn't GitHub-circle spread; it's a mass of Douyin/Bilibili "software reseller" accounts repackaging it as a "frame-boosting gem" and carrying it out: 11-01 one Douyin short (the author had only 197 followers) got 20k likes, 17k saves and 7 thousand shares, then 11-03–11-05 dozen-odd resellers reposted it with nearly identical copy; GitHub downloads spiked with it (v3.2.0.2 got about 26k downloads in four days), and stars were only a small spillover of this external traffic.
Data

- Repo created 2026-08-02 (an Aegis repo was created the same day, since abandoned and now pointing to this repo, suggesting it was originally called Aegis). Reached about 560 stars by 8–September (the exact curve wasn't captured: the GitHub stargazer API required authentication this time and was rate-limited, so unverified).
- Releases downloads (GitHub API, pulled 11-06): v3.2.0.2 (shipped 11-02) zip 13,765 + exe 3,682 + SHA256SUMS 6,370 (most likely pulled by the in-app update check); v3.3.0.7 (shipped 11-06) same-day 2,406; v3.1.0.8 2,480; v2.2.2.3 (9-14) 6,275; v1.7.1.0 (8-25) 194. Downloads run dozens of times the star count: the users are gamers, not GitHub users.
- Author bdth (dulaiduwang003), Shanghai, 108 followers; older repos are all Chinese-community SpringBoot mini-apps / ChatGPT wrappers / ComfyUI management platforms (788 stars), with a track record of taking Chinese projects to several hundred stars.
Competitors
| Product | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs from Pavise |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Process Lasso(Bitsum) | Commercial Windows software | 2000 era | Old-timer, known in gamer circles as 'Xiaolu' | General process scheduling, paid (free version is limited / nagging); Pavise is free and open source, auto-applies per match and reverts when the match ends, one-click for beginners |
| Windows Game Mode / AMD, Intel APO | Big-company features | Since 2017 / recent years | Built into the system | Not configurable, effects not visible; Pavise makes core pinning, interrupts, power, and anti-cheat service offloading into toggles |
| Razer Cortex, Wise Game Booster, and other 'game boosters / RAM cleaners' | Windows | Years | large user base | Mostly kills processes / clears memory; Pavise focuses on core pinning, CCD / big-little cores, interrupt avoidance, frame time and 1% Low |
| lowleveldesign/process-governor | Open source | 2016 | 828 stars, +7 in 1 days | Command-line / quota tools, not game-oriented |
| SimonvBez/CPUSetSetter | Open source | 2025-07 | 753 stars, +7 in 4 days | Only does CPU Set core pinning, English community |
| spddl/GoInterruptPolicy | Open source | 2021 | 573 stars | Only does interrupt affinity / MSI; Pavise folds it into a 'system checkup' |
| PrimeBuild-pc/ThreadPilot | Open source | 2025-04 | 63 stars | An 'open-source Process Lasso alternative': same idea but no distribution |
| open-nexa/cpum, Bilibili creator Gary扬扬's kernel-level interrupt scheduling tool | Open source / Bilibili | 2026-06~10 | Bilibili videos with 2.4K and 3.8K views | Also doing 'replacing Xiaolu' in the Chinese community, but only within the hardcore gamer crowd |
| ChrisTitusTech/winutil, Atlas-OS, hellzerg/optimizer | Open source | 2017–2022 | 65k / 22k / 18k stars | One-time system debloat/tuning, changes are not reverted; Pavise is a daemon that 'only runs during a match and reverts when it ends' |
| Lossless Scaling ("Xiao Huangya") | Paid on Steam | From ¥2018 | very popular in the Chinese gamer community | Frame interpolation / upscaling, a different path to 'boosting FPS'; Douyin comments have people asking whether the two conflict |
Verdict: core pinning / interrupt / power tuning already has mature tools (Process Lasso and a pile of open-source utilities), so Pavise has no technical monopoly. What it owns is the packaging: 'Chinese, free and open source, one-click presets (author's own / extreme), auto-revert after a match, and built for domestic game scenarios like Delta Force / LoL / WeGame / ACE anti-cheat'.
Growth tactics (chronological)
- August launch: resource accounts + X reposts. On X, the account 周览资源 8-09 posts video recommendations (9,244 views). From 8-09 on Bilibili, resource accounts like 生气的萌新, e银河也是河e (DM me for the software, triple-like), 山海之花 (one GitHub open-source app a day), and 宝藏青临 (one free GitHub alternative to paid software a day) start posting. On Douyin, 8-11 posts 【008期】 游戏帧率优化神器 pavise. Software download sites (cymao indexes v1.7.1, 61ku indexes v2.1.1, ckbf88, the tenlonstudio 中文便携版 build, CSDN "272 issue", and Sohu "71 issue") repost it in turn. By the end of this phase the star count reaches about 560.
- Why resource accounts were willing to post it: creator campaigns for AI products. These videos commonly carry the hashtags #豆包 #豆包工作 or #百度搭子 #办公就用dumate #真干活用搭子. These are submission-campaign tags for Doubao and Baidu's DuMate; resource accounts monetize via campaign traffic/rewards and follower growth, and free open-source software is a zero-cost topic that won't get them complaints. Pavise itself spent nothing and rode along on someone else's monetization chain. (Campaign reward rules not verified.)
- In-app updates + official site pavise.club. It has its own website with tutorials and checks for updates in-app; the SHA256SUMS for v3.2.0.2 was pulled 6,370 times, suggesting several thousand active installs. The author ships a version every two weeks (10-27, 11-02, 11-06), so when new traffic arrived there was a fresh build waiting.
- Not seen: discussion on HN, Reddit, Product Hunt, V2EX, linux.do; GitHub trending (repo under 60 days old, can't make the list); not present in the x-radar local corpus.
Why it took off
- It hits a broad, visual pain point: 'high FPS but stuttering'. The pitch is 'not mystical FPS boosting, but returning CPU/IO that background processes grabbed to the game, improving 1% Low'. It has direct appeal for players of hot domestic competitive games like Delta Force, Valorant, PUBG, and Where Winds Meet (comments are almost all 'does XX game work?' 'will I get banned?').
- 'Free + open source + a GitHub expert' is the label resource accounts love most: safe to push, safe to say 'replaces the paid Process Lasso', and the software has a UI and one-click presets, so a 40-second screen recording is enough to explain it.
- Distribution ran on the copy-paste mechanics of Chinese short-video resource-account networks: one small-account video accidentally blew up, peers copied the copy right away, and within days it covered Douyin and Bilibili search results. Stars were only the spillover: downloads were in the tens of thousands, but stars rose just over two hundred.
- The product is polished enough: per-game configs, revert-after-match, anti-cheat allowlists, logs and AI tuning prompts, an official site and tutorials, frequent high-cadence updates, so users don't churn right away.
Differentiation
Technically it isn't unique (core pinning, interrupt affinity, and power plans already exist in Process Lasso, CPUSetSetter, GoInterruptPolicy, etc.). The difference: Chinese language, zero-barrier one-click presets, effects that only apply during a match and revert afterward (safer than one-time system-changing tools like winutil/Atlas), dedicated handling for domestic games and anti-cheat (ACE/WeGame/LoL), free and open source. These let it be 'safely recommended to beginners by resource accounts', and that is why it took off. Similar English open-source tools have comparable features but never entered the Chinese short-video distribution chain, so they stalled at a few hundred stars, gaining single digits a week.
How many people have seen it
- GitHub / developer circles: almost no discussion, no big accounts, no media.
- Mass gamer circles: Douyin/Bilibili have been heavily reposted by resource accounts (top video 20k likes), so it is spreading beyond the niche, but what's spreading is the software resource-account circuit. No public revenue (only a tip QR code).
- Copying / imitation: no obvious same-name cloned open-source repo found; a download site '中文便携版' repackaged it, and the README specifically says 'if you paid for Pavise through another channel, please request a refund', showing some people are reselling it. On GitHub, around the same period, there were same-theme repos like charlie754/Game-Optimizer-CPUs-Threads-Optimizer (2026-08-29,216 stars), and most repos under the topic 'game-optimizer-2026' that Pavise itself uses have a bait-like feel, so they can't be counted as its followers.
Takeaways
- An open-source tool for mainstream Chinese users: the real distribution channel is Douyin/Bilibili 'one GitHub gem a day' resource accounts, not HN/X. Build a one-click UI that can be explained in a 40-second recording and coin a slogan that's easy to copy ('the mountain that raises game framerate the most'), and you have a chance of being copied across the network.
- Safety narratives like 'free + open source + revert after match + no injection, no bans' lower the psychological barrier for both recommenders and users.
- Resource accounts chase platform campaign tags (Doubao, Baidu DuMate). Tool products can proactively supply materials and tutorials to resource accounts and ride along on their monetization.
Uncertain
- The specific star curve from 8–September to 0 560 stars and its sources (stargazer details not retrieved this time).
- Whether the resource accounts are organized by someone (the copy is highly uniform, possibly the same MCN or course template, or simply copying each other); whether the author paid for promotion, no evidence found.
- Actual optimization effect, whether it triggers anti-cheat bans; comments include users reporting 'still stutters' and 'conflicts with Xiaohuangya', retention unknown.
- Specific reward rules for the Doubao / Baidu DuMate campaigns not verified.
