"GPUI and Tauri had a child, but in Go": MyGo gained nearly 5000 stars in 41 days. The framework can't keep up, but apps built on it can
What it is An open-source framework for writing desktop apps in Go. A window can display a web frontend, or you can write native UI in Go that the framework draws on the GPU. No cgo, and packaging, signing, and auto-update are all included.
Why it took off It fills a gap Go programmers have waited years for (Wails is WebView-only and needs cgo, Fyne looks dated). The author, egoist, brings 19k followers on X, two posts line up with two star peaks, and a dozen of his own showcase apps plus organic spread in Chinese developer circles added fuel.
BHow you can ride this Don't build yet another framework. While the heat lasts, use MyGo to build a good-looking native client for a popular service (music, SSH, databases), or fill in components and migration tools it's still missing. When it's done, ask the author to repost it and get it into the showcase.

Oct 3: EGOIST, the open-source author who wrote tsup, posted a single line on X with a video introducing MyGo, a Go desktop framework he had created a week earlier. 41 days later it had 4,797 stars, and it was still adding 1,119 more in the last week, with no sign of cooling. Wails and Fyne have long existed in the Go desktop space, but this week they only gained 140 and 31. Below: which gap MyGo fills, where the stars came from, who is already borrowing its heat, and why I suggest building apps on top of it rather than another framework.
One line, and a band joke
2026 Oct 3, egoist (called @localhost_517 on X, 13.9k followers on GitHub, 82k stars across his projects) posted:
"Introducing MyGo, a pure-Go desktop app framework that can use webview or native UI. It's like GPUI and Tauri had a child, except it's written in Go, so it compiles fast."
That one sentence covers three things: GPUI is the GPU-drawn UI from the Zed editor, Tauri is a lightweight "system WebView + native backend" alternative to Electron, and "Go compiles fast" targets the pain point of Rust behind Tauri. That day the repo gained +160 stars, then +186 and +213 over the next two days, all ranking #3 in Trendshift's Go category.
Among the first batch of comment replies, one was a Chinese "good framework...," and another joked that if a Japanese student wrote "I used MyGO!!!!!" in their thesis, the professor would think you were talking about the band from BanG Dream. The name clash is deliberate: the banner at the top of the README reads "MyGo!!!!!", and a community component library later named CrychicUI also took its name from the same anime.
What it is
A framework for writing desktop apps in Go. Each window picks one of two modes, and you can mix them:
- Web UI: uses the system's built-in WebView (WKWebView on macOS, WebView2 on Windows, WebKitGTK on Linux) to display the frontend, which calls Go through a TypeScript client auto-generated from the Go code. This path is the same as Wails and Tauri.
- Native UI: write only Go, and the framework draws on the GPU itself, with no HTML and no JS. Windows open instantly and memory use is small. This path is like GPUI.
A few other points are stated plainly in the README: pure Go, no cgo, so you can build packages for all three platforms from any machine; an app is a single binary of a few MB; packaging to release is fully covered: dmg, Windows installers, deb, Arch PKGBUILD, code signing, notarization, and auto-update with incremental updates (like Sparkle on the Mac).
MIT license. Reached v0.7.4 in 41 days and merged 767 PRs (per Trendshift). The author said in his Oct 27 post that this was all "thanks to Opus 5.5."
Go programmers have waited a long time for this
Desktop apps in Go used to have only two options: Wails, which is WebView-only and needs cgo on Linux and macOS, making cross-compilation painful, with v3 dragging on for a long time; and Fyne, which draws its own UI but also needs cgo / OpenGL and looks like an older Material design. Posts like "Go deserves more support in GUI development" on r/golang come up every year.
| Project | Language | Scale (11-06) | How MyGo differs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wails | Go | 37k stars, +140 over the last 7 days | WebView only, needs cgo |
| Fyne | Go | 29k stars, +31 over the last 7 days | Self-drawn but needs cgo, dated look, can't mix in WebView |
| Gio / Cogent Core | Go | about 2,300 stars each | Self-drawn, high barrier or small community, packaging and distribution must be built yourself |
| Tauri | Rust | 113k stars | WebView + Rust, slow compiles, hard to learn |
| Electron | JS | 124k stars | It bundles all of Chromium, so it's big in size and memory |
| Viva | Go | 211 stars, +124 in the last 7 days | 10-22 built a library, and followers also focus on GPU-native |
The old players barely moved this week. MyGo gained over 1,000 stars in one week, which means it's not that the whole Go desktop niche got hot. It alone filled the gap of "you want WebView and native UI, no cgo, and updates and packaging included."
Where the stars came from: three waves, and each one matches a specific event
| Timeline | New stars per day | What happened |
|---|---|---|
| 9-26 to 10-2 | About 0 | The author kept heads-down building |
| 10-3 to 10-5 | 160–213 | Launch post |
| 10-17 to 10-22 | 40–90 | Decline |
| 10-24 to 10-28 | 130–300 | 10-27 "three weeks to become the best Go desktop framework, thanks to Opus 5.5", 37.6k views, 474 likes |
| 11-1 to 11-6 | 160–250 | Spread in the Chinese-speaking community, the author's own showcase apps, big accounts cross-promoting |
(Trendshift daily data; 10-28 single-day +302, 11-06 single-day +247 from GitHub daily stars)
Waves one and two are the author's own posts, so they can be confirmed. Wave three has no single event. It's several things stacking together:
- The author built a string of their own apps with it. About half of the official showcase is egoist's own work: the activity monitor Pulse, the terminal Kero for coding agents, 2048, Godiff... mygo-cloudmusic is a third-party NetEase Cloud Music client built by 10-25, already at 801 stars with +453 in a week, aimed squarely at Chinese users.
- Chinese developers spread it organically. On V2EX there are posts like "I migrated my Agent from Wails to MyGo's native GUI" and "An image-generation app written purely in Go." On X, @licoycn replied under the author's post: "I've already used MyGo to build many desktop apps… it's now my go-to desktop framework." echoVic used it to build 4 open-source Mac apps in one go. Binaryify, the author of NeteaseCloudMusicApi, built MyGit. There are introduction videos on Chinese YouTube Shorts, and 11-06 huacnlee and the author cross-promoted each other.
- Long tail in Japan and overseas. azukiazusa wrote a tutorial blog post, sivalabs called it "an alternative to Wails", and it was added to awesome-gui.
What I did not find: Hacker News threads, big Reddit posts, media coverage, or ads. It never reached GitHub's sitewide trending page. That list only includes repos around 60 days old, so it doesn't mean much.
On usage, the only visible signal is npm downloads for its frontend scaffold, mygo-cli: 16,167 downloads over the last 30 days, 600–970 per day (npm, as of 11-05, including CI and mirrors). Fork/star ratio is about 6%. The curve lines up with the posting times and doesn't look like inflated numbers.
Who is already riding its heat
This is the part I most want you to see. MyGo was pushed up by egoist's reputation, two viral posts, and a dozen of their own apps together. But people around it are already catching stars:
- Apps built on MyGo: mygo-cloudmusic at 801 stars (the author's own). elianiva/meiro, a YouTube Music client, at 297 stars. echoVic's 4 Mac utilities.
- Component libraries for MyGo: oneo-me/onevra at 277 stars. CrychicUI bills itself as "1500 components for MyGo."
- Copycat framework and apps on top of it: Viva itself has only 211 stars, but the SSH client t8y2/motty built on it gained 442 in a week, reaching 663, more than the framework itself.
The pattern is clear: during the weeks a new framework is hottest, a good-looking app with a clear use case built on it is easily retweeted by the framework's author, added to the showcase, and starred by the same circle. Building yet another framework, even with the same direction and a Chinese README and WeChat group (Viva), only gets a couple hundred.
How many people know about it
Word is spreading in small circles: Go, indie dev, and Chinese- and Japanese-speaking developer communities. No HN, no media. A copycat framework already exists (Viva), and more people are building component libraries and apps, but the space is far from crowded.
If it were you
Verdict: B. You can't match MyGo itself. It runs on egoist's 19k followers, a track record of 82k stars, and a dozen of their own apps, and it already holds the slot. The copycat Viva has only 211 stars. What you can do is ride its heat: build apps or components on MyGo. Several projects have already reached a few hundred stars this way, but the ceiling is a few hundred to one or two thousand, and you need to move before the heat fades.
Who it fits: people who know Go and have a desktop utility they want to build; people who have built third-party clients for a domestic service, or know the needs of a niche (Chinese, Japanese, or anime fandoms); developers who want to collect their first followers and don't have an audience yet.
Who it doesn't fit: people who want to build yet another Go desktop framework from scratch and go head-to-head with MyGo. Without the author's distribution, you'd be the second Viva. Also people who don't know Go and just want to ride a trending keyword.
How to do it, ranked by how worthwhile:
- Build a "nice-looking client for some service" with MyGo: follow the path of mygo-cloudmusic, meiro, and motty. Pick things people use every day where the official client is heavy or ugly: NetEase Cloud Music, Bilibili, YouTube Music, SSH, databases, Redis, Docker. Use the native GPU path, and put a screenshot and a "few MB, opens instantly" comparison in the first screen of the README. When you're done, @ the author and apply for the showcase.
- Fill the gaps MyGo still has: there are already two component libraries, but themes, charts, rich text editors, tables, tools for migrating between Wails projects, and a full "Wails to MyGo" template are still empty. Someone on V2EX is already writing migration posts, which shows people want this.
- Apply the "A and B had a baby, but in X language" move to a different ecosystem: find a mature niche where a language has no equivalent yet, position it in one sentence, build 5–10 real apps yourself as examples, and use AI to maximize release density. This is the hardest path. Without an existing audience it's hard to get off the ground, but it has the highest ceiling.
How to get users: reply to and quote the author's posts on X (they'll retweet). Post a "I built X with MyGo" write-up on V2EX with screenshots and size and memory numbers. Submit to lists like awesome-gui. Record a 30-second demo for Chinese Shorts. You can borrow the name of the same anime, since this crowd eats that up.
How early to move: items 1 and 2 should ship before the end of December ideally. Right now a couple hundred people a day still look at MyGo. Once that drops to a few dozen a day, the traffic from reposts and the showcase drops with it, and with each passing week the chance that someone else builds the same client first goes up.
What would show I got it wrong: ① By the end of November, if MyGo is still adding triple-digit stars a day and people start talking about it at length on HN or Reddit, the author's halo isn't the only driver. The ecosystem would be bigger than estimated here, and items 1 and 2 should move faster and go bigger. ② Conversely, if in December MyGo drops back to single-digit daily stars and the stars on apps built on it also stall, this wave was carried by the author's release rhythm alone, and the value of riding the heat should be discounted. ③ If copycat frameworks like Viva climb to thousands of stars within a month or two, then there's more room for "another Go desktop framework" than I've estimated here.

egoist/mygo (MyGo): a framework for desktop apps written in Go, and why it gained nearly 5000 stars in 41 days
Research date 2026-11-06. Data sources: our github database (repo_profile / repo_day), Trendshift, the GitHub API, the npm download endpoint, and Jina search and page text (X, blogs, V2EX search snippets).
One line
MyGo is a pure-Go desktop app framework built by egoist (author of tsup and poi; 13.9k GitHub followers, X @localhost_5173 with 19.1k followers)2026-09-26. Within one app, each window can render web pages in the system WebView, like Wails or Tauri, or draw native UI written in Go, with the framework rendering on the GPU, like Zed's GPUI. No cgo is needed, so it cross-compiles to any machine. Packaging, signing, notarization, and incremental auto-updates come built in. It took off because three things stacked: the author's existing reputation plus two viral posts on X; the pitch "GPUI and Tauri had a baby, and it's written in Go," which filled a real gap in the Go ecosystem; and a run of in-house demo apps the author shipped as proof, plus fast AI-driven iteration (41 days, 767 PRs merged). It then spread through Chinese and Japanese developer circles, where the name "MyGO!!!!!" also picked up jokes about the anime band of the same name.
Data
- Repo 41 days old 4,797 (our tracker, 2026-11-06); GitHub API later that day shows 4,956. Forks 285, version v0.7.4, last push 11-05.
- Pace: +1,119 in the last 7 days, +1,089 in the first 7 days (our tracker), no cooldown. Our single-day peak is +302 on 10-28; Trendshift's count for 10-26 is +230.
- Trendshift daily data (Sep 27–Nov 6, +4,892 stars and 767 merged PRs in total):
- 9-26 to 10-2 is basically zero: the author was heads-down building.
- 10-3 launch day +160, #3 on the Go category chart; 10-4 and 10-5 added +186 and +213, both also #3.
- 10-17 to 10-22 cooled to 40–90 a day.
- Second wave 10-24 to 10-28, 130–230 a day (#3 on 10-26 itself).
- Third wave 11-1 to 11-5, 160–250 a day.
- On npm,
mygo-cli(the scaffold for web frontend templates) had 16,167 downloads in the last 30 days, 600–970 a day (api.npmjs.org, as of 2026-11-05). That's a usage signal, though it also includes CI and mirror downloads. - GitHub's site-wide trending only admits repos around 60 days old, so it never listed this one. That tells us nothing.
Competitors
| Name | Where | Launched | Scale | How MyGo differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wails | Open source (Go) | 2018-12 | 36,959 stars, +140 in the last 7 days | Only a WebView path; Linux / macOS need cgo, cross-compiling is painful, and v3 took forever. MyGo's WebView mode is nearly built against it, plus native GPU UI and a built-in updater. |
| Fyne | Open source (Go) | 2018-02 | 28,820 stars, +31 in the last 7 days | Custom-drawn, Material style, but needs cgo / OpenGL, dated look, no WebView mixing. |
| Gio | Open source (Go) | 2020 | 2,294 stars (mirror) | Immediate-mode custom drawing, high bar to entry; desktop integration (tray, menus, packaging, updates) is on you. |
| Cogent Core | Open source (Go) | 2018 | 2,353 stars, 0 over the last 7 days | Custom-drawn cross-platform, small community. |
| gogpu/ui | Open source (Go) | 2025-12 | 508 star | A pure-Go GPU UI toolkit, just a library, with no full desktop API or distribution tooling. |
| energy | Open source (Go) | 2022-10 | 620 star | Embeds CEF / Chromium, large binaries. |
| andlabs/ui, webview_go | Open source (Go) | 2014 / 2020 | 8.4k / 459 star | One is essentially unmaintained, the other is a thin binding. |
| Tauri | Open source (Rust) | 2019 | 112,561 star | WebView plus a Rust backend: slow Rust compiles, steep learning curve. MyGo sells "Go compiles fast." |
| GPUI(Zed) | Open source (Rust) | Bundled with Zed since 2021 | Zed has 92,997 stars | The benchmark for GPU custom-drawn UI, but tied to Rust, not a general framework. |
| Electron | Open source (JS) | 2013 | 123,804 star | Bundles all of Chromium, so both size and memory are large. A MyGo app is a few MB. |
| Viva(vivaui/viva) | Open source (Go) | 2026-10-22 | 211 stars, +124 in the last 7 days | Copycats: also a "Go-first, GPU-native" desktop framework, with a Chinese README and a WeChat group. t8y2/motty (an SSH client, 663 stars, +442 in 7 days) is already built on it. |
Verdict: Go desktop has old players (Wails, Fyne), but nothing before MyGo combined WebView and GPU-native UI in one framework, with no cgo and packaging and updates included. Wails and Fyne gained 7 and 140 in the last 31 days, so demand isn't heating up across the whole category. MyGo is taking this slot.
Growth tactics (with evidence)
- The author's own X posts were the main engine behind the confirmed peaks among the three waves.
- 10-03 launch post: "Introducing MyGo… it's like GPUI and Tauri had a baby, but made in Go so it compiles fast" (x.com/localhost_5173/status/2106329895752388803). +160 that day, then +186 and +213 over the next two days.
- 10-27 post: "I created MyGo just three weeks ago, and it's already the best desktop GUI framework for Go, unbelievable things are happening thanks to Opus 5.5". It got 37.6K views, 474 likes, 156 bookmarks (x.com/localhost_5173/status/2115052723322364334), lining up with the second wave from 10-26 to 10-28.
- He also posted in Chinese: "Here's my Tauri/Wails competitor: MyGo… from development to packaging to incremental updates, one CLI does it all" (Trendshift's egoist/lorca page cites this).
- The author uses his own apps as samples and ads. About half the Showcase page (mygo.egoist.dev/showcase) is egoist's own work: Pulse activity monitor, Kero (a terminal for coding agents), Lorca (an AI teammate), MyGo Cloud Music, GoRex, Godiff, 2048, and Uma. egoist/mygo-cloudmusic (a third-party NetEase Cloud Music client) was created 10-25, already has 801 stars, and gained +453 in 7 days (our tracker). It's a hook built for Chinese-speaking users.
- Chinese developer circles spread it on their own. Visible examples:
- V2EX: "I moved my agent from Wails to MyGo's native GUI" (v2ex.com/t/1253950) and "An image-generation app written in pure Go" (t/1251491).
- On X, @licoycn said "I've built many desktop apps with MyGo… it's become my go-to desktop framework."
- echoVic built 4 open-source Mac apps on it (Liubai, Clipnest, Cleanzo, Little Seabed).
- Binaryify (author of NeteaseCloudMusicApi) built MyGit, and vst93/bili-fm moved over too.
- There are introduction videos on Chinese YouTube Shorts.
- 11-06 huacnlee (Jason Lee) and the author cross-promoted (x.com/huacnlee/status/2118598845366231389). Some commenters called it "commercial hype."
- Japan, Taiwan, and overseas long tail.
- azukiazusa's tutorial blog "Trying MyGo" (azukiazusa.dev/en/blog/mygo-desktop-app/).
- On Plurk someone joked that the author must be "a total fanboy of his own tool"; on X replies, Japanese users also riffed on the name clash with the Bandori band MyGO!!!!! The README banner reads "MyGo!!!!!", a deliberate nod.
- sivalabs called it "a Wails alternative" on X.
- An Indonesian developer posted on Facebook: "Finally, a Tauri alternative."
- Already listed in zoubingwu/awesome-gui and portable-linux-apps.
- Ecosystem repos are pulling it along. People already build component libraries on it: oneo-me/onevra (277 stars) and ELY-Open-Source/CrychicUI ("1500 components for MyGo", named after the same anime). Also elianiva/meiro (a YouTube Music client, 297 stars).
- No evidence found for: Hacker News (Algolia returns no MyGo posts), big Reddit threads, press coverage, or ads. Our x-radar corpus doesn't cover it either.
Why users stay
- The pain is real: Go developers wanting desktop apps have had to pick between "Wails is WebView-only and needs cgo" and "Fyne looks bad." Long-running complaints like "Go deserves more support in GUI development" show up on r/golang.
- A ready-made distribution chain: app bundles, dmg, Windows installers, deb, PKGBUILD, signing, notarization, and Sparkle-style incremental updates are all built in. For indie developers, that's the part that saves the most time and converts most directly into revenue.
- The author ships paid products on it himself: kero.sh, screenflare, and downbit are all his, so the framework has been battle-tested out of necessity. The migration posts on V2EX and echoVic's steady output show others are actually shipping with it too.
- Iteration speed: 767 PRs merged in 41 days, shipped up to v0.7.4, and the author openly credits Opus 5.5. That pace signals an active project where issues get answered quickly.
Where the money comes from
The framework is MIT-licensed and free. The README header has a sponsor slot (OpenUptime, with utm tags), and the author has started receiving sponsorships. The bigger payoff is funneling traffic to his paid apps (Kero, Screenflare, Downbit, etc.) while building a personal brand. No public revenue for the framework itself.
Visibility
Word spreads mostly in small circles: Go, indie dev, and Chinese developer communities talk about it and write tutorials, but it hasn't hit the HN front page, has no press coverage, and has no public revenue numbers. Copycat Viva (10-22 repo, with a Chinese WeChat group) shows Chinese developers have noticed the category.
Differentiation, and whether it's the reason for the traction
Its differentiation comes down to three things:
- WebView and GPU-native UI can be mixed in one window;
- Pure Go with no cgo, so any machine can cross-compile;
- One CLI covers everything from scaffolding to signing and incremental updates.
These are why it took off. The line "GPUI and Tauri had a baby, but in Go" covers all three points in one breath. Still, differentiation alone isn't enough. The author's existing distribution (19k X followers, a well-known open-source name) and his own showcase apps are what amplified the differentiation into stars.
Takeaways
- In a mature category, look for a gap where "some language or ecosystem has no equivalent yet," and position it with a one-liner like "A and B had a baby."
- Build 5 to 10 real apps on your own framework as showcases, and make at least one aimed at a specific language community (for example, a NetEase Cloud Music client for Chinese users).
- Ship at max speed with AI; release frequency is itself the marketing.
- A subculture-meme name (MyGO!!!!!) earns extra discussion.
- A sponsor slot in the README turns traffic into money.
Unknowns
- How many stars turn into real usage is unverified. npm's ~800 downloads a day is the only usage signal; Go module downloads aren't visible.
- The V2EX article body was blocked by a captcha; only the search snippet was visible.
- How many stars came from the Chinese vs. Japanese communities can't be split; stargazer-level detail isn't available.
- Stargazer account quality wasn't checked. But the fork/star ratio is about 6%, and the author's post timing lines up with the daily Trendshift curve, so it doesn't look like star-botting.
