# Saw a viral post and built a repo 4 hours later: an agent skill that draws UI components as Apple-dimension drawings, 1,900 stars in two weeks

**What it is** A free agent skill package that lets Claude, Codex, and Cursor draw UI components like cards and dialog boxes as single-color engineering drawings in the style of Apple's official dimension diagrams, and can turn them into 10-second self-drawing videos.

**Why it took off** Design account @avstorm had just gone viral praising Apple's dimension drawings. The author shipped the tool 4 hours later, posted a video of the tool drawing its own diagrams, and it got 143k views and 4,124 bookmarks. Then the HTML language chart at #1 and short-video repost accounts amplified it.

**B** **How you could ride it** Don't just build another "X-style drawing" clone. Copy the playbook: watch viral design-Twitter posts for aesthetic trends, turn them into agent skills within 24 hours, make a polished short video, and credit the original poster. Or fill the gaps it skipped: full-page layouts and state-change drawings.

Grade B: the playbook is clear and copyable, but each window lasts only a day or two and you're betting on the next viral post. Followers who copied it (system-drawings) got only 8 stars, and the project itself stopped growing from day 5. Spreading within niche circles

On the morning of Oct 23, 2026, a designer on X praised Apple's hardware dimension drawings. 4 hours later, Turkish engineer Enes Ozturk created a repo that lets agents like Claude, Codex, and Cursor draw your cards and dialog boxes in the same style of drawing, and can even turn them into a video that draws itself stroke by stroke. Two weeks later it had 1,890 stars. This piece covers why it took off, where the stars came from, and which parts you should copy if you want similar stars, and which parts you shouldn't.

### One post sparked it, another caught it

10-23 08:19 (UTC), designer Andreas Storm (@avstorm, about 200k followers, cofounder of the icon library iconists) posted one line: "Apple has an incredible library of detailed hardware dimension drawings." He attached Apple's dimension-drawing page for accessory makers. Apple publishes these drawings for every device so case makers can build molds from them: one sheet, a few views, a few magnified detail circles, the whole page full of numbers. By 11-06 the post had 139k views, 3,007 likes, and 1,813 bookmarks.

That same day 12:20, Enes Ozturk created enesozturk/dimensional-drawing. The next afternoon 16:45, he posted: "Made a skill for dimensional drawings of UI components." with a video: a dialog's blueprint drawn stroke by stroke starting from the title bar, the camera pulling back, layers lifting apart one by one, ending on the full sheet. As of 11-06 the post had 143k views, 3,316 likes, and 4,124 bookmarks (X, 11-06).

Two things stand out. First, his account had only 4,211 followers, so views were 30 times his follower count, almost all from the recommendation feed. Second, bookmarks outnumbered likes, which is typical for tool posts: people save now and install later.

In the README's acknowledgments he credits Andreas Storm, "whose post started this" (the post that sparked it).

### What it actually is

Two skills, MIT license, free, output is plain HTML:

- **Draw** : point it at a component (a code file, Storybook, a URL, or a screenshot), and the agent draws a single-sheet blueprint: title bar, plan view, exploded layer view, corner-radius and nested-radius detail circles, and a variables table. It also works on physical products; the README says to "try drawing a thermos."

- **Animate** : turn the finished drawing into a roughly 10-second clip, exported as MP4 in Claude's Motion, or rendered from the command line with Playwright plus ffmpeg.

Installation is copying a folder into `~/.claude/skills/`, or `npx skills add enesozturk/dimensional-drawing`.

What makes it feel opinionated is the "house rules" section in the README:

| Rules | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Monochrome | Grayscale only; distinguish with line weight, dashes, and hatching |
| Architecture, not content | Draw structure only; write `TITLE SLOT · FLEX`, not real copy |
| Variables, not numbers | Use variables like `S1`, `R2`, `R2 = R1 − B − S6`, never hardcoded pixels |
| Unbranded | Name everything like `UI-CARD-001` |
| Never invent values | Mark anything unknown as `[TBD]`, don't make it up |

A skill-review blogger (themenonlab, 10-26) wrote a long piece praising exactly these rules. With them, it goes from "pretty toy" to "a method for drawing components," which explains why bookmarks beat likes.

### Where the stars came from

GitHub daily stars (one snapshot per day):

| Date | star | Added that day |
|---|---|---|
| 10-25 | 6 | — |
| 10-26 | 326 | +320 |
| 10-27 | 848 | +522 |
| 10-28 | 1,282 | +434 |
| 10-29 | 1,418 | +136 |
| 10-30 to 11-06 | 1,542 → 1,828 | +25 to +124 per day, declining over time |

(By the afternoon of the same day, GitHub showed 1,890.)

Several sources, in chronological order:

1. **The author's own X post** , the source. The self-drawn video in the post is the hook. Commenters said they used it the same day as the opening shot for a client video, so the output itself is shareable.

2. **GitHub's language charts** . The repo language is tagged HTML, and on Trendshift's HTML chart 10-25 hit #6, 10-26 hit #1, and 10-27 hit #3. HTML is a small chart, so a few hundred stars can top it, and topping it brings a second wave.

3. **Short-video repost accounts** . At least 4 Instagram Reels, Facebook pages like PHfreecoder, and two YouTube Shorts plus one explainer video all repackaged it as a "cool GitHub project." The author paid nothing, the videos looked good, and the repost accounts came on their own.

4. **Skill directories and blogs** . skills.sh and ui-skills.com listed it, themenonlab wrote a review, and someone posted on Reddit's r/BestGitHubRepos.

How many people actually installed it: the two skills total 686 installs on skills.sh (11-06), and the ratio of stars to installs is roughly 2.7 to 1. At least a dozen skill-collection repos on GitHub copied its SKILL.md verbatim. So most of the stars are bookmarks, not usage.

The spike lasted only a few days. By day 5 daily gains had dropped to dozens, and the author hasn't pushed code since 10-24.

### What the author had done before

Enes is an engineer at WalletConnect. His best-known GitHub work is two React Native animation libraries (react-native-hold-menu at about 1,500 stars, rn-swipeable-panel at about 950). Two months earlier he built an agent skill with the same approach, thinking-logos, which got only 54 stars. Same person, same kind of skill, 35 times the difference. So this didn't take off on an old fanbase. It took off on the topic and the timing of that one post.

### Who else does the same thing

"Dimensioning components" is not new at all:

| Project | Where | Scale | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Specs (formerly EightShapes Specs) | Figma plugin | The benchmark in the design-systems world, about $8/person/month | Auto-dimensions and anatomy in Figma, for handing off to developers |
| Figma Dev Mode, Redlines plugin | Figma | Widest reach | Pixel-level measurement annotations, functional, can't produce an attractive finished sheet |
| moguzbulbul/blueprint-animation | GitHub,2026-09 | 430 star | The closest predecessor: blueprint plus dimension lines plus animation, but framed as before-and-after redesigns |
| muthuishere/hand-drawn-diagrams | GitHub,2026-03 | 85 star | Monochrome hand-drawn-style architecture and flow diagrams |
| BubbleBrainBB/BB-Video | GitHub,2026-10 | 138 star | Makes videos in 32 styles, blueprint is just one of them |
| 3xC1ibR/system-drawings | GitHub, 10-27 created the repo | 8 star | Followers: 1970s IBM/NASA-style technical drawings in 3D |

(GitHub,11-06)

Functionally it's close to all of these. What it has that others don't is that it borrowed something people already agree looks good, and it hit the timing of that post. blueprint-animation does nearly the same thing with an order of magnitude fewer stars. The day after the spike, someone already copied it as system-drawings: same agent skill, white paper with black lines, title bar, and it has 8 stars to date. Following a hit with a restyled copy almost never gets attention.

### If it were you

**Verdict** : B. Worth trying, but what to learn is the playbook, not this project. It shows one thing: when a design circle on X gets excited about some big company's drawings, documents, or visual style, whoever turns it into an agent skill with a good-looking video within 24 hours captures that wave of stars. But the window opens for only a day or two, and you can't know in advance what the next viral post will be. Copying it into another "X-style drawing" has already been shown not to work by system-drawings.

**Who it fits** : people who scroll the X design and AI circles every day, move fast, can write a SKILL.md and record a demo video in one evening, and designer-engineers with taste who can break a style down into a few hard rules.

**Not for:** anyone who wants a project that keeps gaining stars and stays maintained long term (this playbook has star growth fall to a tenth by day 5). Also anyone with no posting channels and no video skills, since almost all of this project's stars came from posts and videos.

**How to do it** , ranked by how worthwhile:

1. **Watch hot posts and move fast** : follow a batch of big design accounts, and when a post like "this company's drawing / document is gorgeous" pulls in a thousand bookmarks, turn it into a skill that same day. The output must be shareable as is: one drawing plus a roughly ten-second animation.

2. **Turn the style into rules** : learn from its house rules: monochrome, variables, mark unknowns `[TBD]`. Rules written like a methodology are what people bookmark, and reviewers have something to write about.

3. **Fill the gap it left** : it only handles single components. Full-page layouts, design-system overviews, and component state changes (pressed, expanded, loading) have no good drawings yet. Or write animation adapters for Remotion or Motion Canvas, which the README admits are untested. This path gets fewer stars, but it doesn't depend on timing luck.

**How to get users** : post on X the day you create the repo, include the self-drawn video, credit the original poster publicly, and spread through the same people. Put a GIF on the first screen of the README. Pick a small repo language (like HTML) to go after a language chart. After posting, send the video to the Instagram and YouTube accounts that do "cool GitHub projects," then list it on skills.sh and ui-skills.com.

**When to be early** : no fixed date, watch the hot posts. Ship within 24 hours of the post going viral; past 48 hours you've basically missed it (inference, based on it creating the repo at 4 hours and posting at 28 hours, with the spike lasting only three or four days).

**What would mean we misread it:** ① After the next aesthetic post goes viral, if someone ships a skill within 24 hours and it stalls at a few hundred stars, the Apple-size-chart angle itself was the draw and the playbook can't be copied; ② if agent skill directory traffic falls and every agent ships built-in drawing features, the skill format's window has closed; ③ the reverse: if blueprint or diagram skills start hitting 1,000+ stars, the category is wider than estimated and path 3 should move up the queue.

## enesozturk/dimensional-drawing research report

> Channel: GitHub | Research date: 2026-11-06 | Data card: cards/gh_enesozturk__dimensional-drawing.json

### One line

An agent skill pack (SKILL.md) that lets Claude / Codex / Cursor and other agents draw a UI component (card, dialog, etc.) or a physical product as a **single-page, monochrome engineering drawing in the style of Apple's official accessory dimensional drawings** . It also includes a 'motion' skill that turns the drawing into a roughly 10-second clip where the lines draw themselves and the camera pans (exported as an MP4 via Claude's Motion artifact, or rendered headless with Playwright + ffmpeg). MIT license, pure HTML output, free.

### Verdict

It took off because it **hit a hot X design-circle post, spent 4 hours turning it into a skill an agent can install, then paired it with a video that draws itself to post** . The aesthetic format (Apple's dimension drawings) was borrowed and came with built-in shareability. The author's own X post (143K views, 4.1K bookmarks) was the main source, followed by Trendshift HTML chart placement #1, Instagram/Facebook/YouTube repost accounts, and skill directories. The star curve is typical of a one-off hit: up about 1,300 on days 2–4, then 25–40 per day afterward.

| 10-25 | +156 stars, Trendshift HTML chart #6 | trendshift.io/repositories/320109 |
| 10-26 | +540 stars, Trendshift HTML chart **#1** ; themenonlab published a long review post on the skill | Trendshift;themenonlab.blog |
| 10-27 | +242 (our database recorded 10-26→10-27, +522; the difference is a timing/counting-window gap) | Trendshift; GitHub repo_day in our database |
| From ¥10-28 | Daily gains fell from +136 to roughly +25~40 | github repo_day |
| 11-06 | 1,888 stars / 135 forks (GitHub API, same day); gain_7d=286 | GitHub API; data card |

- Our database shows trending_days_any=0 because it only records trending entries after the repo is about 60 days old; that does not mean it never charted. Trendshift shows it charting continuously on the HTML language chart (#6, #1, #3, #17, #11, #19).

- Actual usage: skills.sh shows the two skills combined at **686 installs** (2026-11-06, skills.sh/enesozturk/dimensional-drawing). GitHub code search finds at least 10 repos that copy its SKILL.md verbatim into their own skill collections (forge-ui/forge, podo/design-agent-skills, 2lab-ai/soma-work, CAFECA-IO/SinoBee, ain3sh/.agents, aktonay/skillz, ktg-one/goodai-mate, and more). Stars to installs ≈ 2.7:1; most stars are bookmarks.

- The author's other repos: react-native-hold-menu (1.5K) and rn-swipeable-panel (958), older React Native motion projects. thinking-logos, a similar agent skill from two months earlier, has only 54 stars, which suggests this success came from the topic plus that post, not from the author's existing following.

### Where users come from (growth levers)

1. **Riding a hot post / borrowing momentum (confirmed)** : @avstorm's Apple-sizing-chart post went up in the morning 10-23, and the repo was created 4 hours later. The README and the X post both publicly credit avstorm, "whose post started this". avstorm's post first lit up the "Apple's sizing charts look beautiful" feeling in design circles, and Enes gave people a way out: "reproduce it on your own components". Whether avstorm retweeted or quoted Enes's post: not verified.

2. **The author's own X post + self-made video (confirmed, main source)** : an account with 4K followers got 143K views, far beyond its follower count, which points to the recommendation feed. The video (a dialog drawn as a blueprint, with layers exploding apart) was the main hook. The repo homepage links straight to this post. A commenter (@techduckyyy) said they used it the same day to make an opening shot for a client video, so the skill's output is itself shareable content, creating a second wave of spread.

3. **GitHub in-site chart (confirmed)** : Trendshift HTML chart #1 (10-26). HTML is a small language chart with a low bar; a few hundred stars can reach the top, which helped the second wave of stars.

4. **Short-video reposting / content farms (confirmed)** : Instagram reels (De8UoUAkURE, DfYupuZAvYN, De-fDa-gFYl, De7DBF8iR9p), Facebook page videos (PHfreecoder and others), YouTube Shorts (VjuHAIesm2A, VOMoUc4YpqU), and a YouTube explainer (me8t4cndxIw) are all reposting the "good GitHub projects" angle. These were third-party open-source recommendation accounts reposting on their own initiative; the author put in no effort.

5. **Skill directories and blogs (confirmed)** : listed on ui-skills.com and skills.sh; themenonlab.blog 10-26 wrote a long review; Reddit r/BestGitHubRepos has a thread (titled "943 stars", so posted around 10-26/27 stars; the body was blocked by 403 and could not be read).

6. **Ads and paid promotion** : none found. It is a free open-source project, so this does not apply.

### Competitors

| Name | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Specs (formerly EightShapes Specs, by Nathan Curtis) | Figma plugin | Around 2022 | A design-system plugin benchmark: nominated for zeroheight's 2025 Best Plugin; about $8/person/month | Automatically annotates dimensions, spacing and anatomy on components in Figma, aimed at design-system handoff. dimensional-drawing targets agents, generates drawings from code or screenshots, and pursues the aesthetic and variable-based expression of Apple's drawings. |
| Redlines, Figma Dev Mode annotations | Figma plugins / big-company features | From 2019 / 2023 | Built into Figma, with the widest coverage | Pixel-level measurement annotation; a functional tool. It does not produce anything attractive enough to share. |
| Figma Community skill "redline-spec" | Figma (skill) | 2026 | Not verified | Also an agent skill that draws dimension lines, but only as an overlay on design files. No single-page engineering-drawing format and no motion. |
| moguzbulbul/blueprint-animation | Open source (Claude Design skill) | 2026-09-27 | 430 star | The closest predecessor: also "blueprint + dimension lines + animation" for explaining UX redesigns, and also inspired by a designer's X post. But it covers before→after redesigns and does not borrow Apple's recognized dimension-drawing aesthetic, so its stars are an order of magnitude lower. |
| muthuishere/hand-drawn-diagrams | Open source (Claude/Codex skill) | 2026-03 | 85 star | Monochrome hand-drawn-style architecture and flow diagrams, not aimed at UI components |
| BubbleBrainBB/BB-Video | Open source (skill) | 2026-10-05 | 138 star | Videos made from code in 32 styles; "blueprint" is just one of them |
| phun-ky/speccer, julien-deramond/component-anatomy | Open source (JS library) | 2018 / 2026-06 | 21 / 25 star | Draws anatomy annotations on components in the DOM for design-system docs. Not agent-driven, and does not produce drawings. |
| wheresryan22/anatomy-figures | Open source | 2026-10-09 | 29 star | Claude-drawn isometric "mechanical anatomy" illustrations. Similar aesthetic, but the subject is not UI components. |

Conclusion: "annotating component dimensions" has mature Figma plugins and big-company features, but they are all **handoff tools** . Before this, nothing turned it into a beautiful, shareable Apple-style drawing plus a self-drawing video.

### Copycats

- **3xC1ibR/system-drawings** (created 2026-10-27, the day after the breakout): "turn systems into explorable 3D technical drawings in the style of 1970-era IBM/NASA documentation." Also an agent skill with white-on-black lines and a title block. 8 stars; clearly a copycat that did not take off.

- Many skill-collection repos copy its SKILL.md verbatim (see above). That is reposting, not reimplementation.

### Why this one took off

1. **Borrowed an aesthetic benchmark that already has consensus** : "Apple's official accessory dimension drawings" already appeal to designers (avstorm's post with 3K likes and 1.8K bookmarks shows this), so users did not need convincing that it looks good.

2. **Timing: 4 hours behind a hot post** . It delivered a tool for "make one of these for your own components" while the emotion was still at its peak, and publicly credited the original poster, so it spread through the same audience.

3. **The output is shareable content** : a beautiful single-page drawing plus a 10-second self-drawing video. Users can install it and post right away, or use it as an opener for client videos. The tool carries its own spread, and repost accounts were willing to share it because the video itself looks good.

4. **Well-written rules that read as thoughtful** : monochrome, "slots not content," "variables not numbers" (R2 = R1 − B − S6), and [TBD] for anything unknown rather than inventing it. Review posts praised this specifically, which turned it from a pretty toy into a methodology worth saving. That is part of why bookmarks (4K) outnumber likes (3.3K).

5. **Zero-friction install, works across agents** : copy a folder, or run `npx skills add`. Works in Claude Code, claude.ai, Codex, and Cursor, and rides the traffic of the 2026-year-old agent skill directories (skills.sh, ui-skills.com).

6. **Chart leverage** : tagged as HTML, which makes it easy to reach #1 on Trendshift's small-language chart. That gave it a second wave of exposure.

### Differentiation

The differentiation isn't in the features (measurement dimensions in Figma have existed for ages), but in the **format and aesthetics** : repackaging "component annotation" as "Apple-style engineering drawings," and turning it into a video that draws itself. That differentiation is exactly why it broke out. Similar blueprint/dimension-line skills (blueprint-animation 430, hand-drawn-diagrams 85, system-drawings 8) have comparable functionality, but none of them borrowed a widely recognized aesthetic benchmark or caught a hot post at the right moment.

### What to borrow

- **Watch X's design circles for "aesthetic hot posts"** (a big company's document/graphic style getting picked up by major accounts), turn it into an agent skill within 24 hours, publicly credit the original poster, and let the traffic flow in from the same crowd.

- **The skill's output should be directly shareable** : images and short videos that users and repost accounts will spread for you. Put an animated GIF on the first screen of the README.

- **Write the aesthetic into hard rules** (monochrome, variables, [TBD]) so a style skill reads like a methodology, which boosts bookmark rates.

- **Pick a small language tag** (HTML) to chase the Trendshift / GitHub language charts.

- Limitation: star growth from this kind of play decays fast (daily gains dropping from day 5 onward to 1/10), and the author hasn't updated since 10-24; good for building name recognition, not for a sustained product.

### Still unclear

- Whether avstorm or other major design accounts reposted or quoted Enes's post (the local x-radar corpus returned 30 matching posts in 0 days, and we couldn't trace a repost chain).

- Engagement on the Reddit r/BestGitHubRepos post (403 not read).

- Actual ongoing usage: the 686 installs on skills.sh only cover the CLI path; users who git clone or upload via claude.ai are unknown.
