# One-tap switch to ColorOS on Samsung phones: an open-source app 13 days old, pushed by TikTok to 250 stars

**What it is** An open-source Android app. On a rooted Samsung phone, it runs a second system (ColorOS, HyperOS, Pixel or Nothing OS) alongside One UI. You switch over and back with one tap, no reflashing.

**Why it took off** Samsung locked bootloader unlocking, so the reflashing route is closed, and temporary root exploits have shown up this year. It picks systems people actually want (ColorOS, HyperOS), and "Samsung running OPPO's OS" makes a ready-made TikTok comparison video. Once creators posted, daily stars went from 15 to 69.

**C** **How you could follow it** Stop building "Samsung running other vendors' systems." Copy the approach: take a technically strong open-source upstream that only its author uses, and build the last stretch (selection, interface, device coverage, fast bug fixes). Pick an outcome that makes a comparison video, and hand it to techtok creators to spread.

Grade C: the approach is worth copying, but the topic is already held by one author who ships five versions a day. Traffic depends on root exploits and vendor system images that can be patched at any time, the barrier is Android low-level work, and the star ceiling is a few hundred to a thousand or two. Circulating in niche circles

fahadalijaved/OneOS is an Android app. A Samsung Galaxy that's already rooted can run a full ColorOS, HyperOS, Pixel or Nothing OS alongside One UI. No reflashing, and you can switch back. The underlying technology wasn't invented here. It was taken from an upstream project with only 155 stars. What this project did was turn that technology into something ordinary tinkerers will use, and "ColorOS running on a Samsung" is a visual that travels well on TikTok. Below: what it is, where the stars came from, why the upstream didn't take off but this one did, and whether you can build something the same way.

### A "Locked bootloader. No flashing" post

In Oct 22 2026, Fahad Ali Javed, a developer who had built several small Samsung modding tools, posted on X: "ColorOS 17 on a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8U 🤯 Locked bootloader. No flashing." Two days later he created the repo and released the first version, with the tweet reading "1 / OneOS is out 🚀."

For the week before that, the repo gained only single-digit stars a day. The turn came in Nov 3. A techtok creator called customadventurist posted "You Can Now Get OPPO ColorOS on Samsung Galaxy Phones?!", reaching 265k views and 22.6k likes on TikTok by 11-06, and the same video was also posted to Facebook and Instagram. Over the next three days more followed: an A36 running ColorOS with 65k views, "ColorOS 17 is so much better than OneUi 9" with 55k, and a tutorial with 97k views where commenters thanked the creator and said they had installed it. Together these videos reached roughly 800k views.

### What it is

In the README's words: One UI stays installed on the phone as is, and the other system lives in a folder on the phone, booting in a container using One UI's kernel. To go back, tap "Back to One UI" there, or hold both volume buttons for 3 seconds.

- **Systems you can choose** : ColorOS 17 (Find N6, Find X9 Ultra, China and global versions), HyperOS, Pixel 11 / Pixel 9 Pro XL, Nothing OS 5, and Infinity-X. All are Android 17 based, so the phone has to be on One UI 9 first.

- **Supported devices** : starting from the Z Fold8 Ultra and S26 Ultra. The list now includes 20+ models, down to mid-range phones like the A57, A56 and A16, and most are marked "untested."

- **The risks come first** : the README's opening warning is in bold. During development, one of the other systems wiped One UI's app data and photos and locked the lock-screen hardware, forcing a factory reset. It requires a backup first and turning off the lock-screen password. Root also permanently trips Samsung's Knox warranty bit.

A root is required. Starting with One UI 8, Samsung has blocked bootloader unlocking in many regions, so traditional reflashing no longer works. This summer a few temporary root tools that don't need unlocking appeared, such as Root My Galaxy (1,584 stars, covered by Android Authority 7-30). On Reddit people have already posted that they went looking for temporary root specifically to use OneOS.

### How the stars came in, day by day

| Date | star | Gained that day | What happened |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10-24 | – | – | Created the repo, released v0.4.7 |
| 10-26 ~ 10-31 | 24 → 51 | +2 to +10 per day | The author posted on X, and familiar faces from the Samsung modding scene came first |
| 11-01 | 65 | +14 | Source not found |
| 11-02 | 71 | +6 | turgut_real posted a tutorial (97k views) |
| 11-03 | 86 | +15 | customadventurist posted a video (265k views) |
| 11-04 | 114 | +28 | The author posted "5 systems. 20+ Galaxy phones" and it has reached 11-06 with 15.7k views, with several TikToks following up |
| 11-05 | 161 | +47 | Videos like "ColorOS is better than One UI 9"; 5 releases that day |
| 11-06 | 230 ~ 253 | +69 | samupdater published a feature article |

(Daily star counts from GitHub; by 11-06 daytime the GitHub page already showed 253.)

Stars are only part of it. The APKs from the last 7 releases have been downloaded 2,849 times, and 11-05's 0.4.58 release got 907 downloads in under a day (GitHub Releases). The Telegram group has 882 members (11-06). The issues section over the last two days is almost all "support for A35 / A54 / A15 / S24 FE" requests, and someone says the system image on Google Drive is rate-limited and won't download. Users have spread from the old folding-phone crowd to younger people on mid-range phones costing a few hundred bucks.

### Upstream 155 stars, this one 250 stars: what's the difference

OneOS's README says it's a fork of WeWaffles/OneLineage. OneLineage 10-20 was posted on XDA, same tech, but it only runs LineageOS, was only tested on one S26 Ultra, can't make calls, and you have to reboot to get back to One UI. From 10-26 to 11-06 it only gained 42 stars, a handful a day.

OneOS changed four things:

**1. A system that's worth switching to.** LineageOS is for veteran tinkerers, and an ordinary user can't tell it apart from One UI. ColorOS and HyperOS are different: people on Reddit and TikTok keep comparing their "smoothness" and glass UI against One UI. Run an OPPO interface on a Samsung phone and you get a ready-made comparison video. customadventurist's title deliberately says "This isn't just a launcher," telling viewers this isn't just a swapped home screen.

**2. Make it usable as a daily phone.** A card-style system picker, self-checks before download and at boot, a volume-key escape hatch, and fixes for calls, SMS, and camera. None of this is a technical breakthrough, but missing any one of them stalls the viewer who follows the video.

**3. Spread across more devices.** Going from flagships to the A series multiplied the number of people who can install it. Plenty of TikTok videos use the A36 and A56.

**4. Ship fast and let users test.** About 50 releases in 12 days, and 11-05 shipped 0.4.53 to 0.4.58 in a single day. The app can send a "device probe report" to a Telegram group with one tap, and the README's compatibility table is built up from those reports. Every new user helps expand the supported devices.

The author also already had a name in the Samsung modding scene (SamFonts at 375 stars, plus several other tools with dozens of stars each), so the first testers came quickly.

### Who else is in the space

| Project | Scale | Compared with alternatives |
|---|---|---|
| WeWaffles/OneLineage | 155 stars | Upstream, the same underlying tech, but only running LineageOS and stuck where it is |
| Root My Galaxy / DFReroot | 1,584 / 105 stars | Not a rival but an entry point: provides temporary root for Samsung devices with locked bootloaders. 11-05 Root My Galaxy also gained 46 stars, presumably carried along by OneOS |
| Flashing GSIs and ColorOS ports | XDA long tail | Requires unlocking, flashing, and wiping data. Many regions can't unlock at all from One UI 8 onward |
| Virtual Android apps like VMOS | Large installs (unverified) | Runs an older generic Android inside an app. It can't take over the whole device and isn't an OEM system |
| Good Lock and ColorOS-style launchers | Very large | Only change the look |

(GitHub, 11-06.) "Run another brand's system on a Samsung device without flashing" has only these two players. I haven't seen a third follow.

### The risks sit outside the gate

This growth could disappear at three points:

- **The entry point can be closed** : temporary root relies on exploits (GhostLock / Dirty Frag and similar). One Samsung security patch can lock newcomers out. Only people who were already unlocked would remain.

- **The mirrors can be taken down** : the app distributes system images from OPPO, Xiaomi, and Google. One DMCA notice from a vendor and the download links vanish (inference, nothing observed yet).

- **It can brick devices** : the README admits there was a case of deleted photos. A "my phone died after installing OneOS" video would spread as fast as "ColorOS running on Samsung."

### If it were you

**C: worth dissecting, not worth copying.** This topic is already taken by OneOS, which ships five versions a day, and the community is already with the author. Its traffic leans on a root exploit that could be patched any time and on vendor system images, and you control neither. The star ceiling isn't high either. Judging by upstream and Root My Galaxy, this niche probably tops out at a few hundred to a thousand or two.

**Who it suits** : someone already working at the Android low level, kernel, and GSI, who wants a project the modding community remembers.

**Who it doesn't suit** : anyone who hasn't touched root and the Android system layer (there's no shortcut here, and one data-wiping mistake ends it); anyone who wants to build another "Samsung running another brand's system" (a head-on fight with OneOS); anyone aiming for thousands or tens of thousands of stars.

**How to do it** : if you still want to follow this path, the thing worth learning is the approach, not this topic:

1. **Pick a hardcore upstream that stops at "it runs"** : GitHub and XDA have plenty of solid projects that only their author can use. You finish the last stretch: pick content the mainstream actually wants, build the interface, add self-checks and an escape key, expand device support, and fix bugs fast. Put the origin in the first screen of the README. The original author's community will end up on your side.

2. **Pick a result that makes a comparison video on its own** : "X running on Y" spreads by itself on TikTok. It works on other devices too: another brand's interface on a tablet, a car head unit, a handheld, or a TV box.

3. **Turn users into testers** : submit device reports from inside the app with one tap, and grow a public compatibility table so you don't have to buy every long-tail device yourself.

**How to get users** : the author posts long X threads with real-device photos, and TikTok techtok creators take it from there. They lack "a way you haven't seen before," so give them an APK they can use right away and a one-line tutorial. Use a Telegram group for feedback, and let users post on the matching device subreddits themselves.

**When this must happen** : for the OneOS topic, the window tracks the temporary root exploit, and the next one or two Samsung monthly patches could close it. Find another upstream for the "last stretch" and don't rush.

**What would show I've misjudged** : ① If OneOS keeps gaining dozens of stars a day after Samsung patches the exploit, demand is much bigger than "temporary root," and the category deserves a closer look. ② If someone brings the same container approach to Xiaomi, OnePlus, or tablets and gets hundreds of stars, then "change the device" works and it's time to act. ③ Conversely, if a DMCA takedown or mass bricking reports emerge, drop this route.

## fahadalijaved/OneOS: why it runs

**In one sentence** : OneOS is an open-source Android app (Kotlin, Apache-2.0). It lets a rooted Samsung Galaxy run another Android 17 system in a container alongside One UI, including ColorOS 17, HyperOS, Pixel 11, Nothing OS 5, and Infinity-X. You can switch back and forth without flashing.

**Conclusion** : it didn't work by inventing the low-level tech. That comes from WeWaffles/OneLineage. It works because three things stack together:

1. **Timing** : from One UI 8 onward Samsung blocked bootloader unlocking in several regions, so the modding scene could no longer flash ROMs. At the same time, "temporary root" appeared that doesn't need unlocking (Root My Galaxy / the GhostLock exploit CVE-2026-43499, and Dirty Frag).

2. **Productization** : the same container approach, but OneLineage only runs LineageOS and was tested on a single S26 Ultra. OneOS turned it into an app with a "pick a system → download → switch with one tap" flow. The systems are the ones the mainstream actually wants, ColorOS, HyperOS, and Pixel, and device support went from the Fold8 Ultra out to the A series. About 50 releases came in 12 days.

3. **Distribution** : "ColorOS running on Samsung" is an ideal short-video image. From November 2 to 5, techtok creators posted videos on TikTok in a cluster, with about 800k total views, and star growth spiked right in those days.

Source: data card gh_fahadalijaved__OneOS.json, GitHub API (2026-11-06).

- **Build and releases** : Built on 2026-10-24, v0.4.7 shipped that day; by 11-05 we were at v0.4.58. The Releases page holds 16 releases in total, but only the latest 7 still have attachments.

- **Downloads** : The APKs for the latest 7 versions have been downloaded 2,849 times in total. The in-app update-check file update.json has been fetched about 5,170 times, which you can roughly read as "active installs × check count." For version 0.4.58 alone, the APK was downloaded 907 times in less than a day after launch. Source: GitHub Releases API.

- **User profile** : The Issue store 11-05/06 is almost flooded with requests for device models, including A35, A53, A54, A15, A16, A33, A73, S24 FE and more, plus complaints like "Google Drive mirror link won't open / is rate-limited." That means traffic has spread from "flagship tinkerers" to "young users on mid-range A-series phones," and the mirror distribution is getting overwhelmed.

- **Community** : The Telegram group t.me/TheoneOS has 882 members (2026-11-06 reads).

- **Author** : Fahad Ali Javed (X @fahadalijaved). He's a familiar name in the Samsung mod scene: SamFonts has 375 stars, and SamApplock, SamsungCscChanger and GoodSam each have dozens. GitHub followers: 108. He has previously posted screenshots of an internal One UI 9.5 build, which sites like TechDroider picked up. In other words, he already has some following in the Samsung tinkering community.

### 2. Competitors and similar apps

| Name | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs from OneOS |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WeWaffles/OneLineage | Open source on GitHub, XDA | 2026-10-20 | 155 stars (11-06); from 10-26 to 11-06 it only gained 42 stars, single-digit daily growth (GitHub repo) | OneOS's upstream. It only ran LineageOS 23.2 (Android 16), and was only tested on the S26 Ultra with One UI 8.5. Calls didn't work, and switching back to One UI required a reboot. OneOS swapped in the OEM systems mainstream users want, added a system-selection UI, expanded to 20 device models, and fixed calls, SMS and the camera. |
| Root My Galaxy (BuSung-dev) | Open source on GitHub, XDA | 2026-07-17 | 1,584 stars; covered by Android Authority 2026-07-30 | Not a competitor, but an "entry point." It gives Samsung devices with locked bootloaders temporary KernelSU root. 11-05 It also gained 46 stars, most likely traffic carried over from OneOS. |
| polygraphene/DFReroot | Open source | 2026-09-13 | 105 stars | Same as above; a root prerequisite tool (persistence via the Dirty Frag exploit) |
| Traditional flashing: GSI / ColorOS port ROMs | XDA, Droidwin and similar sites | Years | long tail | Requires unlocking the bootloader, flashing, wiping data, and triggers Knox. From One UI 8 on, many regions can't unlock at all. |
| VMOS / virtual Android apps | Google Play, APK sites | From ¥2018 | Tens of millions of installs (unverified) | App-layer virtual machines running an older generic Android. Poor performance, no control over the phone's hardware, and none of the whole-system experience of ColorOS/HyperOS. |
| Reskinned launchers / themes (Good Lock, ColorOS-style launchers) | App stores | Years | Big | Only changes the home screen. TikTok videos even stress "This isn't just a launcher." |
| Google AVF / Android's built-in Linux terminal | Big-company features (Pixel) | From ¥2025 | Built in | Runs a Linux VM, not a second Android phone system |

Takeaway: the "run another OEM's full system on a Samsung without flashing" niche currently has only two players, OneLineage and OneOS, and OneOS has clearly pulled ahead of its upstream. We found no other projects copying it.

### 3. Growth tactics (evidence)

1. **The author posted long threads on X himself** (confirmed)
    - 10-22 posted "ColorOS 17 on a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8U🤯 Locked bootloader. No flashing".
    - 10-24 posted "1/ OneOS is out 🚀".
    - 11-04 posted "OneOS just got a LOT bigger 🚀 5 systems. 20+ Galaxy phones". According to samupdater, this post had over 11-06 15,700 views.
    - Our x-radar local corpus found nothing, so no big accounts amplified it.

2. **TikTok techtok creator re-posts** (confirmed via TikHub 2026-11-06 search; play counts below)
    - customadventurist: "You Can Now Get OPPO ColorOS on Samsung Galaxy Phones?!", 11-3.27M views, 22.6k likes. The same video also ran on Facebook and Instagram.
    - turgut_real: a 11-02 tutorial with 96.8k views. Commenters thanked him for the tutorial, which suggests people followed it.
    - username0000008271:11-04, A36 running ColorOS, 65k views.
    - s24_hype2:11-05, "ColorOS 17 is so much better than OneUi 9", 55k views.
    - galaxys25ultra10:11-441k views.
    - officalk125:11-04, S23 Ultra running ColorOS 1.73M views.
    - lycoalt: 11-03, "The app I used is called OneOS", 29k views.
    - 24ultra_hype: 11-04, "Temp Root + OneOS", running Nothing OS on an S24 Ultra.
    - These posts add up to roughly 800k views, concentrated between 11-02 and 11-05, which lines up exactly with daily star growth rising from 15 to 69.

3. **YouTube explainer** (confirmed): Chala Explains' "One Samsung, Two Androids, No Reflash Needed," posted about 7 days ago, 5,254 views.

4. **Reddit users sharing screenshots on their own** (titles confirmed; bodies blocked by a captcha):
    - r/GalaxyA56: "I managed to boot into colors17 using oneos app and the dirtyflag exploit".
    - r/androidroot: "Finally, an app that provides temporary root access to my Samsung S24 Ultra for OneOS".
    - Clearly some people went looking for a temporary root method specifically to use OneOS.

5. **Small media coverage** (confirmed): samupdater.com 11-06 published "OneOS 0.4.58: Risky Mod Runs Pixel, ColorOS on Rooted Galaxy"; ai-release.org 10-25 published a summary in Russian and English. No coverage yet from major outlets like XDA's homepage, Android Authority, or SamMobile.

6. **Telegram group collects test reports** : The app lets users submit "device probe reports" tagged with their Telegram name, and the README compatibility table is built from these tester reports. This mechanism turns every user into a tester for expanding device support.

### 4. Why it took off

1. **Stuck users have nowhere to go** : Samsung locked the bootloader in several regions starting with One UI 8 (Android Authority reported it), so tinkerers can't flash ColorOS ports. The temporary root tool Root My Galaxy (1.5k stars) makes "KernelSU on a locked bootloader" possible. The author 10-22's tweet says it outright: "Locked bootloader. No flashing".

2. **The thing users want is already a topic** : ColorOS 17 and HyperOS's "smoothness and glass UI" have long been compared against One UI on Reddit and TikTok. r/samsunggalaxy has posts like "ColorOS is insanely smooth… compared to recent OneUI." Running ColorOS directly on a Samsung phone is a natural eye-catching comparison for content.

3. **Productized to the point ordinary players can use it** : The same underlying technique left OneLineage at 155 stars, while OneOS gained 250 stars in 12 days. The difference comes down to these points:
    - a card-based system selection UI;
    - mirror downloads and a pre-boot self-check;
    - an escape key: hold volume up and down for 3 seconds;
    - fixes for the details that make it usable as a phone: calls, IMS, SMS and the camera;
    - a release cadence of several versions a day (11-05 shipped 0.4.53/54/55/57/58 on the day of launch).

4. **Expanding to mid-range A-series phones multiplied the user pool dozens of times** : From the Fold8 Ultra and S26 Ultra to A56, A57, A36, A07, A16, and many TikTok videos use A-series phones.

5. **The author already had reputation in the Samsung tinkering scene** : Projects like SamFonts gave him an existing audience, so the first testers arrived quickly.

### 5. Differentiation

**Its differentiation** : "No flashing, no data wipe, works with a locked bootloader (with temporary root), runs another OEM's Android 17 system on a Samsung, and switches back with one tap," plus multiple OEM systems to choose from and support for many models.

**Is this why it took off?** Partly, but it needs unpacking. The container hot-switching technique belongs to the upstream OneLineage, not OneOS. OneOS's real differentiation is in "which system you pick" and "how productized it is":

- choosing ColorOS/HyperOS/Pixel instead of LineageOS made it something you can film;

- supporting many models and fixing bugs quickly let ordinary players reproduce it by following a tutorial.

Upstream stalls while downstream explodes, which shows the breakout came from these two things, not the underlying tech.

### 6. Visibility

It's "circulating in small circles" and starting to spread out:

- There are TikTok creator videos (up to 265k views), coverage on small sites like samupdater, and the author's X post has over 10k views;

- No major media coverage yet, and no big accounts have reposted it;

- It's free, and the README has no donation or sponsorship links, so there's no open question about revenue;

- No clones of it found.

### 7. What others can learn

- **Productize hardcore open-source tech from upstream, and own the "last mile"** : picking content, building the UI, expanding device coverage, and shipping releases frequently often goes further than the original author. Crediting upstream up front actually earns goodwill from the original community.

- **Pick scenarios that produce "comparison videos"** : "X system running on Y phone" visuals spread on their own in the TikTok techtok crowd, with zero paid promotion.

- **Run a "test report → compatibility table → new device" loop** : turn users into testers and let long-tail device coverage grow on its own.

- **Watch the windows opened by tightening platform policies and new exploits** : for example, a bootloader lock getting bypassed with temporary root. The window can be short; once the vendor patches the hole, the entry closes.

### 8. Still unclear

- Real usage: APK downloads are 2,849 plus versions attached earlier and since deleted; mirrors live on Google Drive, so download counts aren't visible.

- How many users got in via temporary root versus already having an unlocked bootloader; and after Samsung patched GhostLock/Dirty Frag, how many usable entry points remain.

- Safety risk: the README itself admits incidents of data wiped and lock-screen slots taken over. If a wave of bricked devices hits the news, growth could reverse.

- Legal and copyright risk: distributing ColorOS, HyperOS, Pixel and other vendors' images could lead to takedowns or DMCA notices.
