"Every time I ask Claude for a brand, it's cream background with terracotta": a Turkish student's brand-design skill gets 300+ stars

What it is A skill you install in Claude Code: say what your brand is, and it produces several sets of logo, font, and color at once, checks contrast and font licensing itself, and hands you a usable brand spec.

Why it took off The author's launch post, "AI-made brands are always cream with terracotta," hit everyone, and it came with a set of comparison numbers (AI default elements cut to 0.28 from 4.38). Later, skill directory sites and an X collector account reposted it as-is, bringing the next two waves.

BHow you could follow Don't build another brand skill. Take the playbook of "count the AI's default patterns first, then prove with comparison numbers that you avoided them" to presentations, landing pages, illustration, and other workflows nobody has covered yet. Post the numbers on Reddit at launch, then ship a new version every few weeks to make the next wave yourself.

B-grade: the approach is clear and replicable, and there's room in another workflow. But brand/logo skills already number a dozen, with the top ones at 6k+ stars, so this approach's ceiling is a few hundred stars, and the selling point expires once the official models change their default aesthetic. brand-identity-skill is an open-source skill for Claude Code: say "a specialty coffee shop in Lisbon," and it produces three to four sets of logo, font, and color at once, tests each for contrast and font licensing, and finally delivers a 8-page brand spec PDF. The repo was built in 33 days and has 325 stars (GitHub, 11-06). Not a lot of stars, but the author has no followers, no X account, and spent nothing, so how those stars came in is worth a look for anyone planning an open-source project.

A complaint everyone recognizes

On Oct 4, Reddit user zukoo7 posted in r/claudeskills, then cross-posted to r/ClaudeAI the next day, titled "I built a brand design skill for Claude Code: logo, fonts, colors finally fit together." The first line of the body:

I'm a developer, not a designer. Every time I ask Claude to make me a brand, I get the same thing: cream background, terracotta, Fraunces paired with Inter, and a letter hidden inside a circle.

Anyone who has used AI to make a landing page will probably smile at that line. The post then gave a set of numbers: across the same six briefs, a Claude without the skill used an average of 4.38 of these "AI default elements" per answer; with the skill, each set of options had only 0.28, and 18 of the 13 sets had none at all.

These numbers were the key to its visibility. On Oct 5, the repo gained 64 stars in a single day (Trendshift tracks it daily), and it never topped that number in the following month.

The author, Fatih Aydost, is a software engineering master's student at Karabük in Turkey, has 10 followers on GitHub, and has only this one repository.

What it actually does

The README's first screen is a mosaic: logos for 24 fictional brands, including a Lyon light festival, a Mexico City taco shop, a Berlin electronic label, and a Black Sea honey cooperative, all generated by the skill. Below that are two full case studies: an independent bookstore in Edinburgh and an open-source data-pipeline tool, each with a three-option comparison and screenshots of the spec page.

Compared with other logo skills, it differs in three ways:

  • All three pieces together. Each option first settles on one core idea, and the logo, font, and color grow out of that idea instead of being picked separately.
  • Test everything testable. WCAG contrast, color-blindness simulation, whether the font covers the languages the brand needs, font licensing, and whether the logo is still legible when shrunk to 16 and 32 pixels. Anything that fails gets redone.
  • Deliverables you can use directly. A 8-page spec PDF, a full set of SVG/PNG (including app icons and favicons), and design tokens in CSS, Tailwind, and DTCG formats.

The engineering is solid too: CI runs on three systems, and 4 external contributors have submitted PRs. Developers sharing it won't dismiss it as a toy. The cost is spelled out in the README: a full run uses about 900k tokens, which isn't cheap on API billing.

Where the stars came from: three waves, each carried by someone else

Laying out the daily star counts shows three steps:

TimelineHow much it grewWho carried it
10-04 ~ 10-07About 100 starsThe author's two Reddit posts, plus a repost on r/ClaudeWorkflows, several tutorial sites, and codestuff's "library of the day"
10-29 ~ 11-01About 100 stars (10-28 was 176,11-01 to 276)Unverified. The timing lines up right after SkillHey 10-29's article "The best logo design skill for Claude Code"
11-04 ~ 11-06About 35 starsA bookmark post from X account @Cipher_twt 11-04

Cipher's post is a classic "free tool bookmark": "There's a free Claude Code skill: one idea builds a whole brand… it also checks color contrast, font licensing, and whether the logo still looks good when shrunk. Fully open source. Bookmark it." It's almost a restatement of the README.

Between the two waves, it only gained 0 to 4 stars a day. Its last version, v1.1.1, shipped in Oct 10, and there have been no new releases since. Its stars came entirely from the launch and from reposts, and the author hasn't pushed it since. Skill directories like skillsllm and claudepluginhub scraped the README as-is. That's exactly what a README should do: it reads like a ready-made recommendation, so whoever reposts it doesn't have to edit anything. Installation is just the two lines /plugin marketplace add, which the directories pick up automatically.

Who it's competing with

It's crowded. Counting only open-source skills on GitHub (stars as of 11-06 or so):

ProjectStarsWhat it does
s1dashu/ip-as-logo-skillAbout 6,400Only makes logos in one rounded mascot style
kaankiziltug/logo-design-skillAbout 6,100Only logos, with 1,400 reference logos. Created in late September and growing unusually fast (likely star-farmed, inferred)
op7418/logo-generator-skillAbout 2,300Logos only
rampstackco/claude-skillsAbout 1,000A brand skill inside a collection; outputs written guidelines only
dominikmartn/hueAbout 880Learns a design system from existing brands
arnabbagxd/Brand-building-skillsAbout 840Leans strategic: naming, positioning, tone
cofoundy/brand-skillsAbout 70Closest positioning, but it never took off

There's also Anthropic's official brand-guidelines skill (packages your existing guidelines for Claude to use). In Nov 2, easybrandkit appeared too, pulling brands from existing websites.

Interesting: users of logo-design-skill asked in issues for fonts, colors, and tokens. brand-identity-skill already does all of that, yet has under a twentieth of the stars. In this niche, stars follow distribution, not depth.

If it were you

The verdict: don't build another logo or brand skill. There are over a dozen, and the top ones have 6k+ stars. What's worth taking is the approach: count the AI's default tics first, then prove with a set of before-and-after numbers that you avoided them. A workflow nobody has tried this way can realistically reach a few hundred stars. Getting past a thousand takes luck.

Who it's for: developers who can write Claude Code / Codex skills and have a strong taste for some kind of output (slide decks, landing pages, illustrations, charts, email copy, resumes), who want a small project to build a name with.

Who it's not for: anyone aiming for thousands of stars (this approach tops out at a few hundred; the leaders in this space relied on much stronger distribution), or anyone unwilling to run dozens of baseline tests first and wanting to just write a prompt and ship.

How to do it:

  1. Pick a workflow where AI has an obvious default aesthetic. First run the model without any skill installed, 20 to 30 times, and tally the patterns it keeps reusing (for slide decks: purple gradients, emoji subheadings, three-column cards). Turn those into a reproducible metric.
  2. In the skill, list these patterns as 'you must justify using them,' use a script to measure instead of relying on verbal promises, and redo the output if it fails the check.
  3. Open the README with a collage of real outputs, add one or two complete examples written so people can share them directly, and provide the two-line plugin install.
  4. Don't stop after launch. This project hasn't updated since Oct 10, so every wave waited for others to carry it. Ship a new version every two or three weeks with a new set of before-and-after numbers, and create the next wave yourself.

How to get users: launch in subreddits like r/ClaudeAI and r/claudeskills. Open with the pain point, put the before-and-after numbers in the second paragraph. Then wait for skill directories to index it and for X 'free tools' collector accounts to repost it. All three waves of this project came that way.

When to move: skill directories and collector accounts are still actively adding new things, so now works best, before the end of 2026. Once the official models stop producing 'cream base, terracotta accent,' the 'de-AI-ify' pitch expires.

Signs you've misjudged it: (1) someone has already posted with the same before-and-after numbers for your chosen workflow, meaning the approach is crowded too; (2) your launch post doesn't reach 50 stars, meaning the pain point isn't common enough or the numbers aren't striking enough; (3) the next version of Claude or ChatGPT's design output is clearly no longer homogeneous, which would weaken the whole 'de-AI-ify' angle.

fatihaydost/brand-identity-skill: why it worked

Channel: GitHub | Research day 2026-11-06 | In one line: a Claude Code skill that takes a single brief and generates three to four 'identity options' covering logo, fonts, and colors at once, runs accessibility, licensing, and small-size tests, and outputs a 8-page brand guidelines PDF plus SVG/PNG and design tokens.

Verdict

It's small (about 320 stars, 20 forks), so calling it 'worked' is premature. The growth came from one high-quality Reddit launch plus a long tail of automatic reposts by skill aggregators and X collector accounts, not from any growth playbook of its own. The product itself has a clear angle: 'all three deliverables together, everything quantified, deliberately avoiding AI's default look', backed by data (AI default elements 4.38 → 0.28). That framing and the case images are why it got reposted. But it sits in a very crowded space: logo-design-skill (about 6k stars), ip-as-logo-skill (about 6.4k), Anthropic's own brand-guidelines skill, and Claude Design are all there. Its position is a niche craft tool, not a leader.

Data (star curve)

  • Our GitHub repo tracking (repo_profile, 2026-11-06): 318 stars, 20 forks, repo age 33 days, gain_7d +111, prev_7d +44, status=accelerating, suspect empty (no star-farming signal found). The GitHub API showed 324 stars live that day.
  • Trendshift daily star gains (https://trendshift.io/repositories/282035): 10-05 +64, 10-06 +20, 10-07 +12, then steadily down to 0–4 a day; 10-29 +25, 10-30 +46, 10-31 +21 (second wave); 11-04 +12, 11-05 +19 (third wave). Before it entered Trendshift, 25.
  • The largest single-day gain in our tracking was +11-01 42 (Beijing-time capture, same wave as Trendshift's 10-30/31).
  • Three releases: v1.0.0 (10-04), v1.1.0 / v1.1.1 (10-10). No new feature commits since (Trendshift shows 'last commit 27 days ago'; 11-04 has merged 1 PRs). Author Fatih Aydost: based in Karabük, Turkey, pursuing a master's in software engineering, 10 GitHub followers, no linked X account. No backing from any organization.

This niche is crowded: there are at least a dozen logo and brand skills, with the top ones at 6k+ stars.

Growth tactics (where users come from)

  1. Reddit launch (confirmed, first wave's main driver): account zukoo7,10-04 posted to r/claudeskills and 10-05 to r/ClaudeAI with "I built a brand identity skill for Claude Code: logo, fonts and colours that actually fit together". The post body leads with numbers: "plain Claude used 4.38 of those AI default choices per answer; with the skill it was 0.28 per set" (Brave search snippet; Trendshift's "Social mentions" only picked up 10-04 and 10-05). That lines up with the +10-05 and +64 stars single-day peaks.
  2. Auto-reposts / aggregator long tail (confirmed): r/ClaudeWorkflows has 2 [Workflow] reposts (10-05); aiezz.com tutorial (10-05); codestuff.io "Repo of the Day #1048"; skillsllm, claudepluginhub, ui-skills, clelp, opentoolshub, mortaf3/Claude Updates, SkillHey and plugandship all list it; on LinkedIn, Mehdi M. (about 10-07) and Arthi R. also shared it. SkillHey's 10-29 "Best Logo Design Skills for Claude Code" covered it specifically, timed right before the second wave (10-29~31), but whether it actually drove that wave is unverified.
  3. X repost account (confirmed, third wave): @Cipher_twt posted at 11-04 10:28 UTC, "There is a free Claude Code skill that can create an entire brand identity from just an idea… Save this somewhere.", a typical "free tool, bookmark this" post. It corresponds to the +31 stars on 11-04/05. Our x-radar corpus didn't capture this post, and its engagement is unverified.
  4. Self-promotion: issue #1 was a GithubStarMate invitation to list the repo (the platform was recruiting the author). The author has no X account and no HN post (HN Algolia finds nothing).
  5. No ads, no creator partnerships, no evidence of a Product Hunt launch.

Why it took off

  • The launch post leads with data: the "AI default aesthetic" (cream background, terracotta, Fraunces + Inter) is a shared pain point for Claude users in 2026. The post gives a reproducible metric (4.38 → 0.28), which gets upvoted far more than "I built a skill."
  • The README is ready-made reposting material: a homepage collage of 24 brand logos, an animated walkthrough, and brand guideline page screenshots for two full examples (Fernhill Books, Tessellate). Repost accounts and aggregators copied it almost as-is, saving them the work.
  • Low install friction: two lines of /plugin marketplace add get it running, or it can be unzipped directly. It landed just as the Claude Code plugin marketplace and skill directories were proliferating, and aggregators scrape them automatically.
  • Engineering quality holds up to sharing: CI runs on three platforms, WCAG, colour-blindness, glyph coverage and font licensing are all measured, tokens support Tailwind/DTCG, and external contributors submitted 4 PRs (brunomolteni, andromia3, etc.). Developers won't dismiss it as a toy when they share it.
  • But there's no sustained push: no new release after 10-10, every wave was triggered by others reposting, and between waves it fell back to single-digit stars a day.

Differentiation

"The three pieces are generated together by one mechanism" + "measurement as a gate" + "anti AI-default aesthetic" + "reads your existing site to keep/refresh" + "delivers a ready-to-use spec package (PDF/SVG/tokens)". Most similar skills only do logos (logo-design-skill, ip-as-logo, logo-generator), or only output text guidelines (rampstack, Brand-building-skills). This differentiation is why it became visible: nearly every repost copies the same pitch, "one idea generates a whole kit + checks contrast and licensing + PDF spec". But it isn't enough to make it a top project: logo-design-skill, which only does logos, grew an order of magnitude faster over the same period (that one has suspected star-buying), suggesting distribution matters more than product depth in this niche.

Visibility

It's circulating in small circles: Claude skill communities on Reddit, aggregators, a few X repost accounts and LinkedIn. No media coverage, no big-name accounts, no revenue (MIT-licensed and free, no paid tier).

Copycats

Similar "brand kit for agents" projects keep appearing, such as easybrandkit (Emin Budak, 11-02), which pulls an existing brand from a website, and a Trendshift-recommended "Build a distinctive startup brand identity with Codex" (24 stars). But none of them are copies of it. The GitHub repos with the same description, ifso-dev, ChoYugyeong, brunomolteni and andromia3, are forks, not imitators.

What to borrow

  • Give a skill a quantified selling point against a baseline (plain model vs skill), and put the numbers right in the launch post.
  • Put a large collage of real output and a complete example at the top of the README, so it's easy to repost.
  • Install in one line via the plugin marketplace, then let aggregators and bookmark accounts repost it automatically.
  • Position "AI taste" as the enemy. The approach can be copied to other design and marketing workflows: decks, landing pages, illustrations, copywriting.

Uncertain

  • Who drove the second wave (10-29~31, about +92 stars): SkillHey's 10-29 article, an X post not in our corpus, or Reddit reposts, is unverified.
  • The Reddit post's score and comment count, and the Cipher post's engagement, were not obtained (Reddit 403; not in the x-radar corpus).
  • The star-detail endpoint returned 404, so stargazer account quality can't be checked; suspect is empty in the database.
  • Actual install and usage numbers are unknown (one full run costs about 0.9M tokens, which is not cheap and may limit retention).
