Another hit that says "install my plugin first": how a DeepSeek remote plugin doubled to 1,900 stars in a week
What it is A remote plugin for DeepSeek Harness. Once installed, you can reconnect to an AI session running on your own computer from a phone, a web page or another computer, with no public IP needed, and it also connects to Codex, Cursor and Claude Code.
Why it took off DSH has 270k stars but the official project has no remote feature. This plugin got there early and covers the most ground. DSH Go, a public-beta app launched in Oct 30, added over ten thousand stars in a week; users who want to connect to their computer have to install this plugin, and the DSH Go author publicly asked people to star it.
CHow you could follow it Stop building a DSH remote plugin. Copy the playbook instead: on a new platform that just went open source and lacks basic capabilities, build the layer that every other project needs in the first week (hosted service, accounts, protocol), then actively adapt to clients that are gaining traction and link to each other in READMEs.
- Data (updated daily) · Repo created 2026-08-14 · 2,160 stars · 7 days +1,030

For DeepSeek Harness remote plugins, a dozen launched the same week. ds-harness-remote had only two or three hundred stars in its first two months, several times behind rivals. In Oct 30, a hit Android app picked it as the base for "connect to your computer", and from that day it grew along with that app. The most important thing here isn't the features; it's the strategy: make yourself the layer others can't do without.
"You need to install the DSH Remote plugin on your computer"
In 2026 Oct 30, Zhidx published "Over a thousand in 3 hours! DeepSeek Harness mobile app is here", covering DSH Go, a newly launched public-beta Android app. One offhand line in the article: to connect DSH Go to your own computer, you "need to install the DSH Remote plugin on the computer DSH", and you can log in with a Zhihu account.
A few days later, DSH Go's author ccch1mneyyy wrote a long answer under a Zhihu question, "After DSH Go launched and passed 4k stars, how is it actually to use?" After covering the design, the last paragraph read: "The remote module of DSH Go basically borrows from Teacher Li's ds-harness-remote, which really saved me a lot of effort. Everyone remember to give Teacher Li a star too~"
"Teacher Li" is Li Guobao, an older GitHub account that built a rental-search project with 1,488 stars 2016 years ago. His ds-harness-remote had 943 stars in Oct 30. By Nov 6 it had 1,934 stars, and it gained 991 in the last 7 days, double the 7 days before (477). On Nov 4 it ranked #3 on GitHub's TypeScript daily trending (GitHub repo page and daily star records, 11-06).
What it is
DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is an agent runtime DeepSeek open-sourced in Aug. By Nov 6 it had 274k stars, with all capabilities built as plugins. The problem is that DSH's web UI listens only on localhost by default. The author of a similar plugin put it most bluntly in the official forum: "Once you leave the computer, task progress goes 'missing'." The official project only added "remote + mobile" to its roadmap in Oct 27, and still hasn't shipped it.
ds-harness-remote fills that gap. In the plugin manager of the DSH desktop app, enter an npm package name and restart, and you can reconnect from a phone, a web page or another computer to the session running on your computer. The first line of the README reads: "Connect once. Ready whenever you are."
- The computer needs no public IP, no open ports and no manual Tailscale or intranet tunneling: it tries P2P first, falls back to a global TURN relay, and if that fails, to the author's own relay server. Everything is end-to-end encrypted.
- What you see is DSH's native interface, not a separate chat UI; workspaces, tools and permission approvals all stay on the computer.
- Hosted accounts (Zhihu, GitHub and Google login), a web client, an Android APK and iOS TestFlight.
- Later it also connected Codex, Cursor, Claude Code, OpenCode and Hermes, so it isn't limited to DSH.
Free and open source, no paid version.
First two months: it wasn't in the lead
DSH was open-sourced in Aug 13; the next day Li Guobao created this repo. On Aug 16 he posted in the official forum's "Show Your Plugins" thread, on Aug 17 he published an install tutorial on Zhihu, and in Sep 4 he posted "Official Codex support". He got in early, but a dozen remote plugins appeared the same week:
| Project | Stars (11-06) | Approach |
|---|---|---|
| shaobeichen/dsh-pocket | 2,787 | Phone QR-code access with same-screen view, LAN plus public network, no hosted account |
| ningbainb/deepseek-harness-desktop | 900 | Windows desktop distribution with bundled mobile remote |
| saya-ch/dsh-mobile | 764 | Plugin plus Android app plus PWA, tunnels set up by yourself |
| Clarklevis1995/dsh-mobile | 735 | Native client over a WebSocket gateway |
| uumit-ai/dsh-uumit-remote | 493 | Created 10-19, 7 stars in the last 417 days, a late entrant |
| flymysql/dsh-remote | 254 | A bridge-plus-relay PWA with a paid tier |
| The dsh-lan-access family | From single digits to dozens | Just wraps the web UI for 0.0.0.0, no encryption |
In Oct 9, ds-harness-remote had 277 stars and dsh-pocket already had 1,596. The one with the most complete features didn't naturally collect the most stars.
During this stretch it kept iterating: from v0.4.2 at the end of Aug to v0.6.3,40 by Nov 5, with several versions, and a release nearly every day or two in October. npm downloads were 5,257 in Aug, 7,295 in Sep and 13,470 in Oct (npm download stats; includes hot updates and reinstalls, so not a user count).
Jump #1: Oct 24, one day 348 stars
On Oct 23, the author finished adapting DS-Bot (another DSH plugin that was blowing up at the time) to its "Bot mode," so it also worked on phones. On Oct 24 they published a Zhihu post, "Why isn't your next bot a DeepSeek Bot?", and that same day handed out flyers at a booth at the Hangzhou "Watch the Zhu" conference. That day it went from 466 to 814 stars and hit #12 on TypeScript's daily trending chart. The next day someone recommended it on X in English.
It's impossible to separate which of these pushed the 348 stars. What's clear is that this too rode someone else's wave: DS-Bot was hot, and this became DS-Bot's phone entry point.
Jump #2: it became the "connect to your computer" layer of DSH Go
The real acceleration came after Oct 31, and the curve moved almost in lockstep with DSH Go:
| Date | DSH Go stars | ds-harness-remote stars |
|---|---|---|
| 10-30 | 148 | 943 |
| 10-31 | 2,346 | 1,040 |
| 11-02 | 4,561 | 1,201 |
| 11-04 | 7,334 | 1,493 |
| 11-06 | 11,336 | 1,934 |
The second day DSH Go took off, ds-harness-remote's daily star gains jumped from 20–30 to around 100, then settled at about 200 a day. Its npm daily downloads rose from 29 in Oct 638 to 5 in Nov 5,013, and the first 5 days of November already exceeded all of October.
The path is clear: DSH Go gains over ten thousand stars in a week → people who want to control their computer from a phone must install ds-harness-remote on it → some of those installers come back and star it, especially since the DSH Go author publicly asked them to. In reverse, the ds-harness-remote README's client table also lists DSH Go: "A standout app by ccch1mneyyy." Each repo has written the other into its front door.
Why did DSH Go pick this one over dsh-pocket, which has more stars? The inference is that it offers a hosted relay and accounts: phone users can log in and connect without setting up their own tunnel. The most complete network-plus-account setup built over those two months finally turned into stars at this moment.
Who could eat its lunch
The biggest threat is in the roadmap above: the official DSH roadmap lists remote and mobile, and the official API package already contains remote-related abstractions. The day the official version ships, "you must install a third-party plugin to connect to your computer" goes away. After seeing the roadmap, the author replied on X around Oct 27 with something like "what about plugins like ds-harness-remote?" Their apparent answer is to expand outward: support Codex, Cursor, and Claude Code, so the project isn't just a patch for DSH.
That layer isn't empty either: Happy, a long-running open-source project for controlling Claude Code and Codex from a phone, has 24k stars, and Claude Code itself has an official Remote Control. Outside the DSH circle, this project is the latecomer.
If it were you
Verdict: C. Don't chase this slot. DSH's remote layer already has a dozen people building in it, this is the one a hit product happened to pick, and the official side has put it on the roadmap. What's worth taking is the approach: build the layer that every project on a new platform needs, and wait for a hit to lift it.
Who it suits: developers who can handle the dirty work of networking, auth, and protocols, who are willing to run their own relay server, and who can ship a release every day or two for two or three months straight.
Who it doesn't suit: anyone who wants to build yet another remote plugin in the DSH ecosystem. You'd be the fifteenth, and the official version is coming. Also anyone who only wants to make a nice client and doesn't want to touch infrastructure. That's DSH Go's spot, and it already has over ten thousand stars.
How to do it: watch for a platform that just went open source, whose stars are climbing fast, whose plugin system is open, and where the official side is clearly missing a foundational capability (remote access, sync, auth, multi-device, billing). Build that capability within the first week after open-sourcing. Don't stop at a plugin. Ship the hosted service, accounts, and a public protocol together, and document how other clients can connect to you. You want to wait for a client that will take off, and it has to be able to integrate with you within a day. If you still insist on doing DSH remote access, the only gap left is what it hasn't built: a terminal client (the README says "Planned"), HarmonyOS, and a properly listed iOS app. Build those as companions to it, but the ceiling is probably a few hundred stars.
How to get users: have posts in the platform's official discussion board showing off plugins, Zhihu tutorials, and plugin aggregator sites all live in the first week. Then actively approach fast-growing projects in the ecosystem (DS-Bot, DSH Go, and similar) to add adapters, and once they're done, get them to mention you in their README and answers while you link to them in yours. Post one update per major release on both Zhihu and X.
Deadline: for the DSH remote access slot, the window has already closed. For this playbook, the window is the first one or two weeks after a new platform goes open source, and before the official roadmap is published. Once the official side writes it into the roadmap, latecomers aren't worth entering.
Where the bet went wrong: ① After the official DSH remote access launched, ds-harness-remote's stars and npm downloads kept climbing anyway, which shows there's real demand for a unified remote layer across multiple agents, worth building separately outside DSH. ② Conversely, once DSH Go's hype faded, its daily star gains fell back to double digits, which shows nearly all of its stars were borrowed. The playbook can be copied, but the stars don't stick.

liguobao/ds-harness-remote: the remote access plugin for DeepSeek Harness, and why it took off
Data as of 2026-11-06. Sources include our GitHub database (repo_profile / repo_day / trending), the GitHub API, the npm API, and the web pages listed below.
One line
A community plugin for DeepSeek Harness (DSH, the open-source agent runtime from DeepSeek 2026-08, 274k stars on GitHub). Once installed, it lets you reconnect to a local DSH session from your phone, a web browser, or another computer, over an end-to-end encrypted P2P/relay channel. It has since expanded to ACP workspaces including Codex, Cursor, Claude Code, OpenCode, and Hermes. It ships with a hosted server at dsh.r2049.cn, a web client, an Android APK, and an iOS TestFlight build.
Verdict
It didn't take off on its own. Three main reasons:
- Riding DSH's breakout: DSH passed 270k stars within two-plus months of going open source, and the surrounding plugin ecosystem as a whole got covered by the media as a hot topic.
- Tied to the hit product DSH Go: DSH Go is an Android client in public beta from 2026-10-30, which gained 11k stars in a week. Its remote module that connects to computers is borrowed from ds-harness-remote. To control a computer through DSH Go, users have to install this plugin on the computer. The DSH Go author also publicly asked people on Zhihu to "give teacher Li a star."
- Most complete and most frequently updated: among the dozen-plus remote plugins that started on the same day, it was the only one that simultaneously offered P2P, TURN, relay, a hosted account system, native clients, and support for multiple agents.
Its second acceleration in November closely tracked the DSH Go curve.

- Made the TypeScript daily chart on GitHub trending: 10-24 at #12 (+331), 11-04 at #3, 11-05 at #12, 11-06 at #5; 11-06 reached #15 on the TypeScript weekly chart (source: github database trending). Never made the all-language chart.
- npm package ds-harness-remote downloads: August 5257, September 7295, October 13470, and 1–5 days into November already 14118. Daily downloads rose from 10-29 to 638 on 11-05 to 5013 (source: api.npmjs.org).
- GitHub Release asset downloads (Android APK and others): v0.6.2 total 2077, v0.6.0 total 1654 (source: GitHub releases API). Versions iterated from v0.4.2 (08-30) to v0.6.3 (11-05), over 40 releases in total, with a new release almost every 1–2 days in October.

The second day DSH Go took off (10-31), ds-harness-remote's daily star gains jumped from 20–30 to about 100, then rose to around 200 a day, and its npm daily downloads multiplied in step.
Why it took off
1. Platform event: DSH's breakout and the plugin boom
- DSH was open-sourced by DeepSeek in 2026-08 under the principle that "everything is a plugin"; as of 11-06 it had 273,693 stars (github database). Zhidongxi's 10-21 report says it "passed over 250k stars in just over two months of open source," and some projects in the plugin ecosystem have reached tens of thousands of stars (163.com / Zhidongxi).
- DSH Web listens only on 127.0.0.1 by default, "as soon as you leave your computer, task progress is lost" (discussion #5317; Reddit r/LocalLLaMA). Remote and mobile access is an urgent need the official side hadn't covered. Only at the end of October did the official roadmap include "remote + mobile" (Tencent News 10-30), and it still hasn't shipped.
- The author, Li Guobao (an old GitHub account; his 1488-star HouseSearch dates from 2016), created the repo on the second day after DSH went open source (08-14). 08-16 he posted in the "Show Your Plugins" section of the official Discussions (#2531), 08-17 he published a tutorial on Zhihu (Zhihu), and 09-04 he posted "Official CodeX support" (Zhihu). He also maintained dsh-desktop (a community desktop distribution with Remote built in, now archived).
2. Used by DSH Go as its remote backbone (the main driver of the November surge, confirmed)
- Zhidx's 10-30 report "3 hours to 1,000+! DeepSeek Harness mobile app is here" says that to connect to a remote host with DSH Go, "you need to install the DSH Remote plugin on your desktop DSH"; login can use a Zhihu account (163.com; Tencent News also reposted it).
- DSH Go author ccch1mneyyy wrote in a Zhihu answer: "DSH Go's remote module is largely modeled on Teacher Li's ds-harness-remote... please remember to give Teacher Li a star too" (Zhihu answer).
- The ds-harness-remote README also promotes DSH Go on its first screen ("A standout app by ccch1mneyyy"). The two projects feed each other traffic.
- The conversion path: DSH Go gains 11k stars in a week → users who want to control their desktop must install the ds-harness-remote plugin (npm downloads spike) → some of them come back and star it.
3. 10-24 +348 in a single day: Bot mode plus 1024 offline event (partly confirmed)
- 10-23 the author finished the Bot-mode adaptation for DS-Bot (Fei2411/DS-Bot, which then had 3000 stars and was also rising quickly), so it now works on both Android and iOS. 10-24 he published a Zhihu article, "Your next Bot, why isn't it DeepSeek Bot?", and said that 1024 that day he handed out flyers at the "Cyber Liu Kanshan" booth at the "Guan Zhu Conference" in Hangzhou (Zhihu).
- That day it reached #12 on the TypeScript daily trending chart. 10-25 X user @so_sthbryan posted an English recommendation (X).
- It's impossible to pin down which single item brought these 348 stars (the GitHub stargazer timestamps weren't retrieved this time).
4. The author's own ongoing promotion
The author posts regularly on Zhihu (column: codelover) and on X (@liguobao2077, bio reads "DSH non-famous remote plugin developer, real name"); also built awesome-dsh-plugin(11-01). 10-27 After the official roadmap was published, he immediately replied on X asking "so what happens to plugins like ds-harness-remote?" (X).
Why users stick around
- Setup is simple: enter the npm package name in DSH desktop's plugin manager. No public IP, port forwarding, Tailscale, or cpolar needed. Supports Zhihu, GitHub, and Google login.
- Once opened, you get the "native Harness interface"; workspaces, tools, and permission flows stay on your machine.
- One channel connects DSH, Codex, Cursor, Claude Code, and other agents.
- 5000 daily npm downloads means it's not just stars: hot updates and repeated reinstalls get counted too, so it's not a user count, but the scale is a real usage signal.

| Claude Code's official Remote Control | Big-company features | Early 2026 | — | Only covers Claude Code |
| Sunlogin / Tailscale / cpolar | Other | Already around | Big | General remote desktop or intranet tunneling; you configure it yourself, no native session interface |
Lots of competitors, and most started the same week DSH open-sourced. When ds-harness-remote started, its stars weren't ahead: 10-09 had only 277, dsh-pocket had 1596.
Differentiation
- The most complete networking: P2P first, falls back to a global TURN server, then to multiple Server Relays; end-to-end encryption in both directions; the Host needs no public port.
- Hosted accounts plus multi-device: dsh.r2049.cn account system (Zhihu, GitHub, Google login), web client, native Android, iOS via TestFlight, Chrome entry point, one-line Linux install; one account sees every Host.
- A "native interface" instead of building a new UI: Remote Web reuses DSH's native interface, and the desktop plugin embeds directly into DSH's sidebar.
- Multi-agent: connects Codex, Cursor, Antigravity, Pi, OpenCode, Claude Code, and Hermes via ACP, going beyond DSH alone.
- Positioned as protocol and infrastructure: ships Remote Agent Tools, which DSH Go and DS-Bot both integrate with, making it the "default remote layer" of the ecosystem.
These differentiators are why it could take off: DSH Go chose it over dsh-pocket because it has hosted relays and accounts, so phones can connect out of the box. But the direct source of stars is traffic from DSH Go and DSH platform buzz; the differentiators alone didn't put it ahead organically during 8–October (back then it was only a few hundred stars).
Visibility
It's circulating in small circles. Evidence: it hasn't been covered by media on its own, only appearing in Zhidx's DSH Go report and several plugin roundups; X has only sporadic recommendations; it's free, so there's no public revenue. It's fairly well known within the DSH plugin community (Zhihu, DSH Discussions, beta groups).
Copycats
Strictly speaking, nobody "copied" it. Similar remote plugins started around the same time; uumit-ai/dsh-uumit-remote (created 10-19) counts as a later follower. DSH Go reuses its protocol, which is a partnership.
What to borrow
- When the platform first opened its plugin system, it claimed the "essential need the platform hadn't built" (remote or mobile) in the first week, posting in the official Discussions and on Zhihu.
- Don't just build a plugin. Ship the hosted channel, accounts, and protocol together, so other hit apps want to plug into your protocol directly: when they take off, you get pulled up as a dependency.
- Write each other into READMEs and cross-promote stars with authors of related hit products.
- Expand from a single platform to multi-agent (ACP), widening your replaceability during the window before the official release.
Still unclear
- Which piece of content drove the +348 stars for 10-24 (Bot mode, the Guan Zhu Dahui event, a group forward) wasn't isolated.
- How much of the npm download count is real new installs versus hot updates and repeat installs.
- When DSH's official remote and mobile features launch, and how much this project gets displaced afterward.
- Whether the cost and signup barrier of the hosted server dsh.r2049.cn (password registration requires an invite code) will limit further growth.
