# 3 days of architecture, 3 days of implementation: Longbridge's Native Shell hit 1,700 stars in three weeks, riding the author's name

**What it is:** a cross-platform UI framework with a Rust engine. Write once in TSX, and it renders as native system UI on phones, desktops, the web, and even the terminal. It can also ship AI-generated UI to a running app.

**Why it took off:** the author is well known in the Chinese developer community, and an older project, GPUI Kit, with nearly 20k stars, funneled people over. It also rode two hot topics: a UI framework written for AI, and a full project shipped in six days with AI. A new version in early November plus posts from big accounts in the scene brought another wave.

**C** **How you can follow it:** don't rebuild a framework. Go after the empty spots in the NSH ecosystem (component libraries, full-page templates, AI starters and skills packs), or bring its release approach to your own project.

Grade C: the stars come mainly from the author's name, the older project's existing audience, and Longbridge as a real customer. Followers can't get any of that. The Go port nsgo, built along the same lines, had only 196 stars two weeks in. What you can learn is the launch method, not the project itself. Word on the street

On Oct 19, a well-known engineer in the Chinese developer community posted: he and a colleague spent 6 days building a Rust cross-platform UI framework, where you write once in TSX and it renders as native controls on five operating systems. The repo gained 213 stars that day. Three weeks later it had over 1,700 stars, with a second wave. Below: what it is, where the stars came from, and which parts of a project like this you can copy and which you can't.

### A tweet saying "this is how we work, 1000x faster"

On Oct 2026 19, huacnlee (Jason Lee, VP of technology at Longbridge Securities and founder of Ruby China) posted this on X:

> @sunli829 and I spent 3 days discussing the architecture for this Native Shell and 3 days implementing it. It now runs on iOS, Android, macOS, Windows and Linux. Written in TSX, fully native rendering, and dynamic delivery. This is how we work, 1000x faster! This week we start using it in the Longbridge mobile app, mainly to support AI-generated modules on the fly.

That tweet had about 29k views and 220 likes by 11-06. In the replies he added that the two of them had burned through 2 Claude Premium and 2 Claude Max (20x) quotas in those few days. That day longbridge/nsh gained 213 stars and reached #8 on Trendshift's Rust daily chart (Trendshift, 10-19).

The repo was created on 10-14, with v10-17 released on 0.1.0.

### What it is

Native Shell (NSH for short) is a cross-platform UI framework from Longbridge, with the engine written in Rust. You can write in Rust, or in TSX with Tailwind. One codebase renders as **the system's own native controls** on iOS, Android, macOS, Windows and Linux, as HTML on the web, and there are also GPU custom-drawing and terminal backends.

It also has a capability few rivals offer: at runtime it delivers signed TSX modules and runs them in a sandbox the host controls. Longbridge wanted this so AI-generated interfaces could appear live inside the app. Apache-2.0 license.

### This space is already crowded

| Project | Behind it | Launched | star | How it differs from NSH |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Flutter | Google | 2015 | 181k | Draws its own controls instead of using native system controls |
| React Native | Meta | 2015 | 127k | Also native controls + TSX; NSH's engine is Rust, adds desktop on three OSes, Web, terminal, and sandboxed runtime delivery |
| Tauri | Community | 2019 | 113k | Goes through WebView |
| Dioxus | Community | 2021 | 39.6k | Rust, via WebView or self-drawn |
| Slint / iced / egui | Community | 2019–2020 | 24k / 32k / 32k | All self-drawn, weak on mobile |
| GPUI Kit | Same author | 2024-06 | 19.6k | GPU self-drawn, desktop only |
| Compose Multiplatform | JetBrains | 2020 | 19k | Kotlin, mostly self-drawn |
| Valdi | Snap | 2025-11 | 16k | TS compiled to native views, mobile only |
| Lynx | ByteDance | 2025-03 | 15k | Same TSX + native rendering + dynamic delivery; core is C++, weak on desktop |

(GitHub,11-06)

NSH sits at the intersection of these: a Rust engine, native controls, TSX support, one codebase that covers even the terminal, and runtime delivery. But on tech alone, ByteDance's Lynx and Snap's Valdi already have very similar capabilities, backed by big companies. The differentiation is a ticket to be taken seriously, not the reason it's growing.

### Where the stars came from: two waves, both on X

**Wave one was the author himself.** 10-18 +92, 10-19 +213 (Trendshift daily data), which lines up with that tweet. After that, dozens a day. On HN, 10-19 through 11-06 had 5 submissions in total, each scoring 1 to 3 points, and none of them took off.

**An older project was funneling traffic.** The author's GPUI Kit has 19.6k stars, and its README has a dedicated section, "Related project: Native Shell," and the author's GitHub profile also links to NSH. Its existing followers have been flowing into the new project steadily.

**Wave two landed between 11-04 and 11-06** , with +209, +291, and +274 over three days (Trendshift), higher than wave one. What happened in those days:

- 11-04, v0.4.0 was released. The English launch tweet got about 9,700 views and listed a string of screenshot-friendly new features: rich-text table editing, tree and heatmap charts, and shader effects.

- Early on 11-06, EGOIST (@localhost_5173, a well-known front-end developer) posted "You should probably check out nsh.dev," with "native controls, not self-drawn, works on mobile and desktop, written in Rust but you can also write it in TSX," about 11k views and 97 likes.

- The same day, @object_nullll posted a user story: "Yesterday I chose nsh to build the mobile version of eta. I set a strict condition: give it one evening, and if it doesn't work, switch to Expo. It was 10 p.m., I'd finished the design mockups, gave it a rough brief, and went off to kick off the task. When I'd just tidied up and was about to sleep, I found it could already collect the harvest."

- In 11-06 day, the author posted over a dozen times: terminal support done, system tray done, Longbridge's internal support system had switched from web to desktop, mobile, and Web clients all using NSH, and "30 to 50 PRs merged almost every day".

No single big-account tweet clearly explains the two-to-three-hundred-a-day volume; it looks more like these things stacking up, though there may be reposts I didn't find. Several technical blogs in Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and English (lijianfei.com, blog.mushroom.cv, geul.io, johan.se, etc.) amplified it, with unclear reach.

By late 11-06, GitHub showed 1,783 stars and 107 forks. 22 days saw 808 PRs merged, and 5 releases shipped in three weeks.

### Why this one

- **The author brings built-in credibility.** huacnlee is well known among Chinese developers, and collaborator sunli829 is a known Rust developer (per public information, reportedly the author of async-graphql; not fully verified). When the new project launched, a crowd who already trusted them was waiting.

- **The narrative rides on "AI writes code."** It puts AI-friendliness front and center: TSX + Tailwind, which models know best; the repo includes llms.txt, a skills directory, AGENTS.md / CLAUDE.md; and the runtime can deliver AI-generated modules. User feedback lands on this point too, with one person saying "GPUI feels unfamiliar to AI and the output is garbage... want to try nsh."

- **"Shipped in 6 days, burned through several Claude Max plans" is the story itself.** In vibe coding discussions, that line travels further than any technical spec.

- **Big companies are actually using it.** Longbridge's mobile app is being integrated, and the internal customer service system has been rewritten, which suggests it isn't a toy (how deep the integration goes is only the author's claim).

- **Every release has something demo-able,** and each new capability is a reason to post.

### Others are already following

oneo-me/nsgo, created one week after NSH, has about 10-21 stars as of 11-06 196. Its README is blunt: "NSGo follows the design of Native Shell (NSH)... It exists for teams that want NSH's model without writing Rust." It is a Go port of NSH's design, also supporting TSX + Tailwind, and doesn't need Node. It launched just one week after NSH, and has about a ninth of its stars.

There are also small apps the author and community have built with NSH (disktree, sysmon, stoatmd, tailpocket, etc.), all still tiny.

### If it were you

**Verdict** : C. You can learn something here, but following it isn't worth much. Of NSH's 1,700 stars, the biggest chunks come from the author's name, the roughly 20k existing followers of GPUI Kit, and Longbridge as a real customer. You can't get any of those three. nsgo is a ready-made counterexample: same design, different language, up and running within a week, and 196 stars by week two. And UI frameworks are the heaviest, most crowded category of open source, with Flutter, React Native, and Lynx already present.

**Who it suits** : developers who already have some name recognition in a language community and can post something that people actually see; people who want to claim the "first" spot in a newly emerging ecosystem.

**Who it doesn't suit** : people who want to build a brand-new cross-platform UI framework from scratch and hope to get stars on technical merit alone; people with no posting channel at all.

**How to do it** , ranked by how worthwhile:

1. **Be the "first" in the NSH ecosystem** : a mature component library or full-page templates (chat, market quotes, settings pages), a starter and skills pack for "build an NSH app with AI in one evening," or an awesome-nsh list. The ecosystem has only just started, and these spots are still empty. The author is still posting daily, so if you do it well, he might repost you. The star ceiling is a few hundred, not thousands.

2. **Copy its launch method for your own project** : publish "built with AI in a few days" along with the token bill as the launch story; make the repo AI-friendly (llms.txt, skills, the patterns models know best) so the "AI built an app in one evening" user story spreads for you; add a link to the new project in the README of an older project; pair every release with a new capability you can screenshot.

3. **Clone it in another language** : nsgo has already claimed Go. Other languages (like Kotlin, Swift, or Zig) are possible, but given nsgo's numbers, set your expectations lower.

**How to get users** : post in the Chinese developer circle on X. Open with how many days you spent with AI and how much you burned through; attach a screen recording of it running on several platforms at once; @ the original author. Don't count on HN: NSH itself failed to take off there in five attempts.

**When to move** : the window for this niche is roughly before the end of 2026 (my estimate). NSH is currently merging 30 to 50 PRs a day, and the official team will likely fill in the component library and templates themselves.

**How to tell you've misjudged** : ① NSH takes off on HN or with big English accounts and stars climb past 10–20k; then the niche is worth far more than estimated here, and you should move faster. ② Conversely, if daily new stars fall back to single digits after mid-November and nobody outside Longbridge is really building apps with it, this wave was mostly the author effect, and the ecosystem isn't worth betting on. ③ If the official team ships its own component library and AI starter within a month or two, the first-mover path is closed.

## Why longbridge/nsh (Native Shell) took off

### One line

Native Shell (NSH) is an open-source cross-platform UI framework from Longbridge Securities, written in Rust. You write once in Rust or TSX (+Tailwind), and it renders to **native system controls** on iOS / Android / macOS / Windows / Linux, to HTML on the Web, and it also has GPUI and terminal backends. It can also deliver signed TSX modules at runtime and run them in a sandbox (for AI-generated interfaces). Apache-2.0.

Bottom line: it took off mainly on the author's reputation and the older Rust GUI community background (huacnlee's GPUI Kit has 19.6k stars), plus a well-timed positioning: "a native UI framework built for AI to write." All of the growth came from the Chinese developer circle on X and the author's own posts, not HN, and there was no paid acquisition.

### Data

- 2026-10-14 created the repo, 10-17 shipped v0.1.0,10-22 v0.2.0,10-26 v0.3.0,11-04 v0.4.0 (GitHub releases).

- star: our database logged 11-06 to 1486 (7 days +613, the prior 7 days +312,11-06, single-day +282 was the peak); the GitHub API later that day showed 1783 stars and 107 forks 11-06.

- Trendshift daily data (https://trendshift.io/repositories/309265) shows two waves:
    - Wave one: 10-18 +92, **10-19 +213** . Same day it entered Trendshift's Rust chart at #8 (10-18 #19); after that, dozens a day.
    - Wave two: 11-03 +68, **11-04 +209, 11-05 +291, 11-06 +274** (Trendshift showed it uncharted for these days).
    - 22 days, 808 PRs merged. Heavy development.

- Contributors: huacnlee 323 commits, madcodelife 207, sunli829 143, followed by Longbridge colleagues and community members.

### Competitors

| Product | Type | Launched | Scale | How it differs from NSH |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| React Native | Open source / Meta | 2015 | 127k stars, industry standard | Also native controls + JS/TSX. NSH's engine and layout are written in Rust, one codebase covers the three desktop platforms, web and terminal, with a built-in runtime for signed packages and sandboxed delivery. |
| Flutter | Open source / Google | 2015 | 181k stars | Flutter draws its own controls (Skia/Impeller). NSH uses system native controls and system text layout. |
| Tauri | Open source | 2019 | 113k stars | Tauri uses a WebView. NSH uses native views. |
| Dioxus | Open source Rust | 2021 | 39.6k stars | Rust + RSX, mainly WebView or self-drawn. NSH uses native controls and can also be written in TSX. |
| Slint / iced / egui | Open source Rust | 2019–2020 | 24k / 32k / 32k stars | All self-drawn, weak on mobile; NSH focuses on native mobile |
| Lynx (ByteDance) | Open source / big tech | 2025-03 | 15k stars | Also TSX with native rendering and dynamic delivery. Lynx's core is C++, with limited desktop support. |
| Valdi(Snap) | Open source / big tech | 2025-11 | 16k stars | Compiles TS to native views. Mobile only. |
| Compose Multiplatform | Open source / JetBrains | 2020 | 19k stars | Kotlin, mostly self-drawn |
| GPUI Kit (same team) | Open source | 2024-06 | 19.6k stars | GPU self-drawn, desktop only. NSH is its "sibling project", aimed at mobile and native controls. |

Plenty of products do the same thing. This category is crowded. NSH sits at the intersection of: Rust engine + native controls + TSX + all platforms (even terminal) + runtime dynamic delivery.

### Growth tactics (evidence)

1. **The founder posted on X (verified, main channel)** : huacnlee (Jason Lee, VP at Longbridge Technology, founder of Ruby China) 10-19 wrote in Chinese that "architecture discussion took 3 days, implementation 3 days... our development pace is 1000x... started using it this week in the Longbridge mobile app, mainly to solve AI dynamic-generated modules". The post got 29.2K views, 220 likes and 180 bookmarks (https://x.com/huacnlee/status/2112135922787426574). In a reply he added that "the two of us burned through 2 Claude Premium and 2 Claude Max (20x) worth of tokens in the last few days". That day's star gain was +213, which lines up with the post. The English launch post for v0.4.0 11-04 got 8.8K views and 97 likes (https://x.com/huacnlee/status/2117986649049297381). 11-06 He then posted more, including terminal support and the Longbridge customer service system being rewritten as a full-stack client in NSH.

2. **Confirmed KOL and organic retweets** : EGOIST (@localhost_5173)11-06 posted "You should probably check out nsh.dev", 8,966 views, 84 likes; @object_nullll wrote "hand it to AI at 10pm, wake up to the work done," and used NSH to build a mobile version of eta overnight, 3.3K views; @M4n5ter is testing NSH's TUI backend for an Apache project.

3. **Old project driving traffic (confirmed)** : The README of GPUI Kit (formerly gpui-component, 19.6k stars) has a section "Related project: Native Shell". The author's GitHub profile also links to NSH.

4. **Secondary articles (confirmed, reach unknown)** : Chinese: lijianfei.com (10-27), blog.mushroom.cv (10-29, comparing with React Native), aisidaily (11-01, Chinese and English versions), CSDN tutorials. Korean: geul.io (11-04, comparing NSH and GPUI Kit). English: johan.se and dailylaunch.

5. **HN didn't work (confirmed)** : 10-19 through 11-06, 5 submissions in total, each scoring 1–3 points.

6. **Trendshift / GitHub Rust chart (partly confirmed)** : Only 10-18 and 10-19 made the Rust chart. The second wave did not chart.

The direct source of the second wave (11-04 through 11-06) isn't fully traced. Timing overlaps with the v0.4.0 release, the author's back-to-back posts, EGOIST's repost and user stories, but no single big-account tweet found explains the +200–290 per day.

### Why it took off

- **Author credibility and an existing circle** : huacnlee is well known among Chinese developers (Ruby China, GPUI Kit). sunli829 is a well-known Rust developer (per public info, the author of async-graphql; not fully verified). When a new project launches, people who already trust them are waiting.

- **Timing: UI frameworks in the AI coding era** : The positioning speaks directly to "AI-generated UI". It uses TSX + Tailwind (the style models know best), ships llms.txt, skills/ in the repo, AGENTS.md / CLAUDE.md, and can deliver AI-generated modules at runtime. User feedback hits the same point: "GPUI feels unfamiliar to AI, the output is garbage... want to try nsh" (@Trojanking123), "had AI build the mobile version overnight".

- **Building it with AI in six days is itself a story** : "3 days of architecture, 3 days of implementation, 1000x", plus the Claude Max token bill. That has built-in spread in the vibe coding conversation.

- **A major company is really using it** : The Longbridge mobile app is onboarding, and an internal customer service system is being rewritten with it. Not a toy.

- **Fast iteration, visible progress** : 5 releases and 808 PRs in three weeks. Each release has a new capability you can demo (rich text tables, charts, terminal emulator, faster web loading). Every release is a reason to post.

### Differentiation

- Compared with Flutter / Slint / egui / GPUI: it uses **system native controls and system text layout** , no self-drawing.

- Compared with Tauri / Electron: no WebView.

- Compared with React Native / Lynx / Valdi: the engine is written in Rust. One codebase covers iOS, Android, the three major desktop platforms, web, GPUI and terminal. It can be pure Rust, pure TSX, or mixed. **Signed packages + a host-controlled sandbox for runtime delivery** .

- AI-friendliness is a first-class feature (llms.txt, skills, generated TS type declarations).

These differentiators are necessary for it to take off, but not sufficient: taken on technical points alone, Lynx and Valdi have similar capabilities, backed by big companies. NSH reached 3k stars in 1.7 weeks mostly through the author's reputation, the "AI-native UI framework" narrative, and spread on Chinese X. The differentiators started to matter in the second wave: users actually used AI to build with it and posted the results.

### Visibility and copycats

- Visibility: **spreading in small circles** . Spread is concentrated among Chinese developers on X and the Rust community, plus scattered Chinese, Korean and Japanese blogs. HN never hit the front page, and no big English media outlet or major account was found writing about it. It is open source infrastructure with no public revenue.

- Copycats: **oneo-me/nsgo** (10-21 created, 196 stars). Its README states it "follows the design of Native Shell (NSH)... for teams that want NSH's model without writing Rust", a Go port. There are also small apps the author and community built with NSH (disktree, sysmon, stoatmd, tailpocket, etc.).

### What others can borrow

- Using "built in a few days with AI" as the launch narrative, publicly sharing the token bill and development days.

- Making the framework AI-friendly: llms.txt, skills, TSX + Tailwind that models know best, so the "AI built an app overnight" user stories spread on their own.

- An old project's README links the sibling project, pushing existing stars to the new project.

- Frequent releases, each with a capability that can be screenshotted and demoed. Every release is a posting opportunity.

### Unknowns

- The specific source of the 11-04 to 11-06 second wave (possibly a big-account repost not captured in our X corpus; no NSH-related tweets found in the x-radar corpus).

- Real usage: crates.io / brew download counts not checked. How much it has been adopted in the Longbridge app is only the author's word.

- sunli829's background not verified item by item.
