Habblaud: an eight-months-late pixel office that got 1100 stars in a month on Habbo nostalgia
What it is A pixel-style virtual office that runs on your own computer, drawing each Claude Code and Codex session as a little character. You can approve permissions, send messages, and watch quotas across multiple accounts from a web page or your phone.
Why it took off Claude Code opened mods in Oct 1, and it was among the first to be listed by mod directories. The name and Portuguese interface hit Brazilians' nostalgia for Habbo, and animations like raising hands, popcorn, and lights going off are ready-made short-video material. Brazilian AI creators filmed it, and the top video hit 75k views.
CHow you could follow it Don't build another pixel office. If you want in, switch to a local pixel-nostalgia theme and language (say, Cyworld rooms or QQ avatars), or build the first version for a tool people name in the comments, like OpenCode or Antigravity, and ship within a week of the platform opening its extension points. Then hand local creators footage they can film.

"Guys, this one is eating popcorn because its test run is taking forever." 2026 in Oct 19, Rodrigo Soares, a Brazilian YouTuber covering marketing and sales, posted a video titled "I installed Habblaud: 17 AI agents in one office." The frame shows a pixel building, a little figure raising a hand waiting for permission approval, and two finished agents playing ping pong. The open-source project was only created in Oct 6, and by Nov 6 it had 1,157 stars and 263 forks. But turning Claude Code into a pixel office was already done eight months earlier, and that project hit 10K stars. How did this one still take off this late? Can you replicate it? This post breaks it down.
What it is
A Node service that runs on your own computer. Open localhost:4747 in a browser and you see a pixel building. It reads the session files Claude Code and Codex write locally, doesn't touch keys, and sends no data out:
- One room per project, one character per session. Subagents arrive by elevator, walk to the character that called them to hand off their work, then take the elevator back.
- A character waiting for your permission runs back to its desk and raises a hand. Background commands that are still running show an hourglass overhead. Eat popcorn first; after 3 minutes the chair starts spinning, after 10 minutes cobwebs form, after 25 minutes it dozes off. When the run finishes, confetti; when it fails, rain falls over its head.
- Idle characters watch sports, play games, play ping-pong, and bet gold coins on rock-paper-scissors in the break room. When the project closes, the last person turns off the lights, and the room is torn down and becomes a garden.
- The practical layer: once you install the matching Claude Code mod, you can approve or deny permissions, answer agent questions, and send messages to sessions directly from a web page or phone. A bar at the top shows every Claude account's 5-hour and weekly quota side by side, so people rotating several accounts can see everything at a glance.
MIT-licensed and completely free, with no paywall. The interface and docs come in Portuguese, English, Spanish, and French, and the install flag is in Portuguese (--sem-permissoes). The author is Márcio Junior. He has only this one repo on GitHub, the company listed is Monetizze, a Brazilian affiliate marketing platform, he's based in Portugal, and he has no X account.
The same thing already existed
This category was already crowded, with the leaders set by February:
| Project | Launched | Scale (11-06) | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|
| pixel-agents | 2026-02 | 10,091 star | The originator, a VS Code extension, English-speaking audience, mostly for watching |
| Star-Office-UI | 2026-02 | 7,562 star | Built for OpenClaw, from the Chinese community |
| clawd-on-desk | 2026-03 | 6,690 star | Desktop pet, no office |
| Claude-Code-Agent-Monitor | 2026-03 | 1,152 star | Traditional dashboard, no pixel style |
| claude-office, pixtuoid, and others | 1–May | A few hundred stars | Visualization only, or runs in the terminal |
| cubicle, cubicle-crew, and four or five others | 9–October | 36–54 star | Started the same month as Habblaud |
The last row matters most: the four or five pixel-office projects that started the same month as Habblaud all stalled around 50 stars. So it didn't take off because of the idea. Everyone had the idea.
So what did it have?
1. Timing: Claude Code opened mods in Oct 1, and it was among the first. It created the repo 10-06, and the README presented the mod as the recommended setup. The mod directory claude-mods.com listed it in Oct 9, the same day stars started climbing (+61, per trendshift). With mods newly open, everyone was browsing directories for "fun mods," and a pixel building full of animation caught that wave.
2. The name: Habbo + Claude. Habbo Hotel was a pixel social game of the 2000s, and Brazil was one of its biggest nostalgia markets. The comments under the Portuguese videos are blunt: "habbo+claude KKKKKKKKKKKKKK mlk é criativo" (this guy is genuinely creative), "mistura de habbo com claude ne kkk" (a mix of Habbo and Claude, lol). The competitors were English or Chinese, and the Portuguese-speaking world had no version of its own, so as soon as this one appeared it became "ours."
3. Every state is ready-made short-video material. Raised hands, popcorn, cobwebs, elevators, confetti, lights going off. You can film something in 15 seconds. Brazilian AI content creators lacked exactly this kind of material: "looks cool, and your agent installs it with one command."
4. One layer more "operable" than the peers. Approving permissions and sending messages from the web, plus a multi-account quota dashboard, let videos say "you can manage 17 agents without opening a terminal," and give people who installed it a reason to keep it. The author shipped v0.2.0 through v1.0.3 over 10-08 to 10-16 nine days, merged 67 PRs in a month, and nearly all contributors were Brazilian.
Where users come from
Two waves, and the handoff between them is clear.
Wave one (10-09 to 10-16): mod directory sites and GitHub promo accounts. Mod directories like claude-mods.com listed it. On TikTok, the GitHub promo account @github.signals 10-10 posted "Your AI coding agent just got a virtual office," which got 8,875 views, and the same account cross-posted to Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts. Chinese X promo accounts @QingQ77 (10-10) and @weiwei2018831 (10-14) also posted it. Over these days it gained 44–91 stars a day, peaking on 10-14.
No mentions on Hacker News, Reddit, Product Hunt, big English-language X accounts, or media. The author never posted any promotion. The fork-to-star ratio is 23%, partly because the install method is just git clone, so people who want to change the characters or the theme fork it on the spot.
The video comments also surfaced what it doesn't do yet: "Does it work with Antigravity?" "Does it work on Windows?" "Does it work with OpenClaw?" "Too bad it only supports Claude and Codex, I want it for opencode." Some people said they modified the code to make it work with Antigravity (Gemini). There's also pushback: "What's the point of this?" "Must eat a lot of tokens" (21 likes, the most-liked comment).
What happened to the ones that followed
Someone has already started selling on it: habblaude.com (note the extra e). The page went live Nov 3. It's a paid cloud version selling "cloud computer + VS Code + Claude Code + pixel office," tiered by room: Lobby R$75/month, Room R$125/month, and the bigger Floor tier is only offered as an installment price. The terms say "the virtual office is based on the open-source project Habblaud." Whether they have any connection to the original author is unverified. On dev.to, 10-31 also has someone posting AgentDesk, an animated office with spend tracking. In the same batch, cubicle-crew, foreman-vision-pub, and virtual-office-agent, which launched around the same time, all stalled below 60 stars.
If it were you
C. Building another pixel office almost certainly won't get stars. The category is already held by pixel-agents, and the four or five that launched the same month are stuck at 50 stars. Habblaud's two real edges, being first to mods and the Habbo nostalgia in Brazil, have one expired and the other belongs to someone else. What's worth taking away is the playbook, not the category.
Who it's for: developers who know a few creators in their home-language community making AI content and who have real nostalgia for a local pixel-era theme; or people already using tools like OpenCode, Antigravity, or Gemini CLI who know how to read their session files.
Who it's not for: anyone trying to build an English "better pixel-agents"; anyone with no content creators willing to film it and hoping for organic GitHub traffic (that's how the same-month projects stalled).
How to do it: pick one of two paths. ① Change the cultural theme and the language: Koreans have Cyworld mini-rooms, Chinese audiences have QQ Show and QQ Farm, both ready-made pixel nostalgia. Default to the local language and build in every "filmable state" (popcorn, raised hand, lights off). ② Build for the tools it doesn't cover: the ones the comments asked for, OpenCode, Antigravity, OpenClaw, Windows. Whichever agent tool just opened a plugin or extension API, ship the first "visible" version within a week. Either way, keep the "actually operable" layer: batch permissions, send messages, check quotas. Pretty visuals alone don't keep people around.
How to get users: first grab listings on the directory sites, then actively hand filmable visuals to local creators making AI content, with a one-line install prompt so the agent sets it up itself. The author doesn't need to be a marketer, but for the first two weeks they need to ship every day and merge PRs so the community has something to share.
Deadline: one to two weeks after the platform opens a new extension point; after that the directories fill with copies.
How you'd be wrong: ① You change the theme and language, creators in your market film it, and after 30 days you're still under 300 stars. That would mean Habblaud rides Habbo's one-of-a-kind nostalgia in Brazil, not a repeatable playbook. ② Anthropic or OpenAI ships an official session visualizer and multi-account quota panel, and the category cools overall. ③ Conversely, if someone builds the OpenCode or Antigravity version the comments asked for and it hits a thousand stars, that means the "switch tools" lane is still open, and the grade should go up.

Habblaud (marmottajr/habblaud): how a pixel office that arrived 8 months late hit 1.1k stars in one month
Bottom line
Habblaud 是像素办公室这条老赛道里晚到的一家(赛道头部 pixel-agents 2026-02 就有 1 万 star)。它跑出来靠三件事叠在一起:
- Timing: Claude Code officially opened mods on 2026-10-01, it 10-06 built the repo and shipped the first mod, and the mod directory sites listed it within 10-09.
- Name and language: the name is "Habbo + Claude," and Brazilians have deep nostalgia for Habbo; the README and UI are in Portuguese. Brazilian Portuguese AI creators were short on exactly this kind of "looks cool, one command to install" material, so they filmed it for Reels / Shorts.
- A layer deeper than the competition: most rivals stop at visualization. This one also lets you batch-approve permissions on the web, send messages to sessions, and see 5-hour / weekly quotas for multiple Claude accounts side by side.
Growth came mainly from others making content with it on their own. The author has no X account, and I found no press coverage.
Key facts
- 2026-10-06 建库。截至 2026-11-06:1,157 star、263 fork(GitHub API 当天现查)。数据卡记 1,137 star、261 fork。fork/star 约 23%,对一个新库来说很高。
- Daily star gains (trendshift): before 10-08 it was 0. From 10-09 it added +61, then 10-10 +53, 10-11 +44, 10-12 +47, 10-13 +52,10-14; the peak was +91,10-15 on 59, then 10-16 +50. From 10-17 it settled to 15–38 stars a day and has stayed steady. Our database logs gain_7d 142 and prev_7d 180, status "steady growth," suspect empty.
- This week's star gains lead their category: pixel-agents +106, clawd-on-desk +104, Star-Office-UI +15, Claude-Code-Agent-Monitor +19 (github repo_profile, 2026-11-06).
- Author Márcio Junior: GitHub account registered 2012 years ago, 81 followers, lists Monetizze (a Brazilian affiliate marketing / payments platform) as employer, based in Portugal. No X account. The project was originally called codetown, and the README still includes a note about migrating from
~/.codetown. - Development cadence: from 10-08 to 10-16 it shipped v0.2.0 through v1.0.3 in nine days; trendshift logged 67 merged PRs in one month. Nearly all contributors are Brazilian: andersonrfsilva with 19 PRs, lpalvess with 10, alexanderbraga with 6, and others.
- Completely free, MIT licensed, no paid tier. v1.0 added Habblaud World: an online pixel city where each user's office becomes a building in the city. This part requires sign-up and goes through a waitlist, and the server is server.habblaud.com.
What it is
A local Node service, opened in the browser at localhost:4747, zero runtime dependencies. It reads the session files Claude Code / Codex write, plus the shell alias lines (used to tag multiple accounts with letters), and draws everything as a pixel building:
- One room per project, one little figure per session; subagents arrive by elevator and leave once they've handed back results.
- Figures waiting for your permission run back to their desks and raise a hand; background commands show an hourglass overhead, and figures eat popcorn, get tangled in cobwebs, and doze off.
- Idle figures watch the game in the break room, play ping pong, and bet gold coins at rock-paper-scissors.
- Day and night follow local time, and October has a Halloween theme.
- Practical features: a mod plugin lets you approve / deny permissions, answer AskUserQuestion, send messages to sessions, and start a new agent in one click from the browser; it also works on mobile; shows 5-hour and weekly usage for multiple Claude accounts side by side; and includes same-day replay and a "My Day" stats view.

Takeaway: this track is crowded and was validated long ago. The leader is pixel-agents, at roughly 10k stars. Habblaud is not category innovation. Four or five peers that started the same month are stuck around 50 stars, so its success isn't because of the "pixel office" idea itself.
Where users came from (growth evidence)
- The Claude Code mods platform launch (confirmed)
- Timeline: bcherny 2026-09-14 teased Claude Mods (x-radar, 2,629 likes); 2026-10-01 @ClaudeDevs officially announced "You can now mod Claude Code", requiring v2.1.287 or above (cellcog.ai 2026-10-02).
- Habblaud built its repo on 10-06, and its README pushes the mod as the recommended install method.
- Mod directory sites listed it quickly: claude-mods.com says "Since we covered it on 9 October", and the listing date matches the first day of star growth (+61). Others include mod-claude.com, slopshopper.com, and claudepluginhub.com.
- In other words, it rode the traffic wave from when mods had just launched and everyone was looking for fun ones.
- English GitHub recommendation accounts / content farms (confirmed)
- TikTok @github.signals posted 10-10 video(s): 8,875 plays, 291 likes (TikHub).
- The same account syndicated to Facebook ("GithubSignals"), Instagram, and YouTube Shorts, and there are Facebook pages like PHfreecoder.
- Titles are all in the style of "Your AI Coding Agents Now Have a Virtual Office" and "The Sims, but the characters are your AI agents".
- Chinese GitHub recommendation accounts on X (confirmed)
- @QingQ77 10-10 posted, and @weiwei2018831 10-14 posted (trendshift social mentions). The timing lines up with the star-growth window from 10-09 to 10-14.
- The Chinese aggregator ITADN also picked it up (still using the original name, codetown).
- Brazilian Portuguese AI influencers (confirmed, and the main driver in the second half)
- YouTube: Ovinifontes, "Agora Eu Vejo Meus Agentes de IA Trabalhando ao Vivo (Habblaud)", posted 10-21, 74,829 views; Rodrigo Soares (a marketing/sales channel), "Instalei o Habblaud: 17 agentes de IA num escritório", posted 10-19, 20,593 views, selling the "install with one prompt" angle; Roudi Labs, 1,316 views.
- TikTok: abranches.ia, _mrsmiith (caption "estilo Habbo"), patrickaguiar.ia, danielcarneiro.dev, gabsan_tos1, leumafiaai and others, each video getting 500–2,000 views.
- patrickaguiar.ia uses the lead-gen line common on Brazilian Instagram: "comment 'ESCRITORIO' and I'll DM you the link and a Portuguese tutorial". There is also a step-by-step image post on Instagram, "Passo a passo para instalar o Habblaud".
- These creators use it as material for "flashy AI tool" content to grow followers and funnel people to their own consulting or courses (Rodrigo Soares's video description links directly to AI system implementation consulting). That's why it can keep gaining steadily, 20–30 stars a day, for 10-17 after this.
- Channels I couldn't find
- No related posts on HN, Reddit, or Product Hunt, and nothing in Jina / Exa / Brave search results.
- Searching "habblaud" in the x-radar corpus returns 0 results, suggesting big English X accounts never shared it.
- No media coverage, only personal notes like ronanrodrigo.dev.
- The author has no social accounts promoting it.
Why so many forks (23%)
- The install is
git clonefollowed bynpm run mod:install. Mods load from a local clone, not as an npm package, and there's no one-click install from a plugin marketplace. People who want to change the theme or characters naturally fork it. - The Portuguese tutorials and contributor community are active, and PRs cluster in the first 10 days.
- Searching "habblaud" on Bing turns up a long list of github.com/<person>/habblaud forks, mostly under Brazilian usernames.
Differentiation, and was it the reason it worked?
- Name and cultural hook: Habbo + Claude
- Brazil is one of the largest nostalgia markets for Habbo Hotel, and Portuguese-speaking creators write "estilo Habbo" outright.
- The README, UI, and docs default to Portuguese (the command flags are Portuguese too, such as
--sem-permissoes), with English, Spanish, and French also supported. - Competitors are mostly in English or Chinese, and the Portuguese-speaking world had no local version. This is one of the main reasons it took off.
- You can actually operate it, not just watch
- On the web you can approve permissions, answer questions, send messages, and start new agents, and it works on mobile too. Most rivals only let you watch.
- This lets creators tell the story of "managing 17 agents without opening a terminal". This is a secondary reason: it gives videos something to show and makes people stick around to use it.
- Multi-account quota dashboard
- It adds aliases for
~/.claude*directories to label accounts A/B/C/D, and shows each account's 5-hour and weekly quota side by side. - Useful for heavy users rotating across several Max accounts, which is rare among its peers.
- It adds aliases for
- Strong spectacle
- Sub-agents ride an elevator in, confetti fires on delivery, popcorn and spiderwebs appear while waiting on commands, and the room turns into a garden after the lights go off. There are also day/night and holiday themes.
- Each one is ready-made footage for a 15-second short video. This is why it keeps getting reused as content.
- Timed well as a mod launch
- The repo was built 5 days after mods opened, catching the spot in the mod directories' "first batch of fun mods".
- A month later, the directories would have been full of look-alikes.
Bottom line: the differentiation isn't the category, it's "localization (Portuguese + Habbo nostalgia) + deeper operating capability + video-friendly details". The first decides who spreads it; the other two give those spreaders something to film.
How many people saw it / copycats
- Reach: spreading in small circles. Mainly the Brazilian Portuguese AI influencer scene (peak 75k views on YouTube), plus English and Chinese GitHub recommendation accounts. No HN, Reddit, media, or big English X accounts. The project itself charges nothing.
- Copycats: already here
- habblaude.com (with an extra e): a paid cloud version built on Habblaud (MIT). It sells "cloud computer + VS Code + Claude Code + pixel office" and charges by "room": Lobby 12 period at R$50 each, or R$75 monthly; Room 12 period at R$83.33 each, or R$125 monthly; Floor 12 period at R$150 each. The terms say "O escritório virtual é baseado no projeto open source Habblaud". The page went up on 2026-11-03. Whether it has any connection to the original author is unclear (unverified).
- AgentDesk: published on dev.to by marcelo_lima_021 2026-10-31, also an animated office, plus Claude spend tracking.
- Peers from the same period, like cubicle-crew, foreman-vision-pub, and virtual-office-agent, can also be seen as part of the same copycat wave.
What others can borrow
- Watch the platform's new extension points (this time, Claude Code mods): ship something visible within a week of opening, and grab the directory listings early.
- Localize a category that's already been validated, into new languages and cultures: find a visual nostalgia hook locals love (Habbo for Brazil), default to the local language, and local creators will pick it up on their own.
- Design the product to be short-video material: give every state a dramatic little animation (raised hands, popcorn, cobwebs, confetti, lights off).
- Add one more layer of "can actually do things" (batch permissions, send messages, multi-account quotas), turning "looks cool" into "useful", so users stick around.
- An open-source free project can get repackaged by others into a paid hosted version (habblaude.com): sell cloud compute to non-technical users, tiered by agent concurrency. Someone is testing this money path right now.
Still unclear
- Whether habblaude.com has any relationship with the original author, and whether it has real paying users.
- The stargazer breakdown returned 404 from the API this time, so it couldn't be split by date and country. "Mostly Brazilian users" is inferred from contributors, fork usernames, and content creators.
- View counts for the two posts on the Chinese X recommendation account weren't obtained.
- Instagram Reels play counts weren't obtained.
- How many people are on the Habblaud World waitlist, and whether it's moving toward paid.
