# Only 30 followers on X, yet 8,400 stars: how an Indonesian developer's anti-slop squeezed into a crowded lane

**What it is** A set of rules for AI coding agents like Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor. Before delivery, it checks itself item by item and filters out "AI-ish" tells like purple gradients, fake data, emoji copy, and filler comments.

**Why it took off** The demand was already well covered by several big repos with 100k+ stars. It grabbed the category term anti-slop as its name, first lit up through Indonesian Threads and TikTok posts about "local builders going global," then rode a one-line install, plugins for ten agents, and a long tail of skill directories. By day 60 it also reached GitHub's JavaScript daily trending chart.

**C** **How you could follow it** Don't chase the anti-slop topic; apply the playbook to the next rising agent-skill category: use the category term as the repo name, put a before/after image at the top of the README, spread install entry points everywhere, ignite it in your native-language community first, and save the biggest push for around day 60 after creating the repo to hit Trending.

C grade: the playbook (native-language ignition, category-term naming, install entry points everywhere, pushing for Trending around day 60) is worth studying, but the topic itself is crowded: the top repo has 100k stars, there are 106 repos with the same name, the newcomer unslop hit 10k stars in 8 days, and the official side has entered too. Building another anti-AI-taste repo now will struggle to get stars. Whispers in small circles

Data 2026-10-09 → 2026-11-08 (31 days, 31 observations). Points before 10-28 come from deeply / archive backfill, not every day has one

2026 in Sep 5: Indonesian dev Novian Nadari (@novn_) posted on Threads, "Just browsing GitHub, found an anti-slop built by an Indonesian dev, a set of rules that stops AI coding agents from producing generic, obviously-AI UI." The post hit 84.6K views and 2.2K likes. Two days later, the repo miqdadbadjuber/anti-slop gained 328 stars in a single day (Trendshift, 9-07). The author, Miqdad Badjuber, had just 30 followers on X, and this is his only public repo. By 11-06 it had 8,455 stars and 567 forks. It was not the first in this niche, nor the biggest; its star count is about a tenth of the leader's. What's worth watching is how someone with no English-speaking reputation got a seat in a crowded topic.

### What it is

A set of rules for AI coding agents. Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Antigravity, Kimi, Cline and others can all install it. There are 40 hard rules, split into 6 small skills: UI, copy, code comments, accessibility, mobile, and so on. Before handing off work, the agent checks itself against the list and produces a PASS/FAIL report. It targets the things everyone is tired of: purple gradients, three symmetric cards, made-up "10,000% ROI" numbers, launch copy full of emoji, and a comment above every constant that just restates the constant's name.

The README's first screen states its positioning: "It's a filter, not a style guide." It only removes slop; it doesn't dictate colors, fonts or layout. For good looks, you write your own DESIGN.md. The first screen shows three before/after pairs: UI, copy and code. The UI pair also includes two images of "installing half": with only anti-slop, the fake data is gone but the page has no direction; with only DESIGN.md, there's direction, but the cards still say "Synergy Multiplier." You can tell what it covers without reading the text.

### Why this one

The demand wasn't created by the project. "Don't let AI produce AI-flavored interfaces" was already well covered by several large repos: pbakaus/impeccable (2025-11.1M stars), Leonxlnx/taste-skill (111k stars), Nutlope/hallmark (49k stars). Users were already searching "anti slop skill" on their own. It got three things right.

**The name is the category term.** The repo is called anti-slop, the topics are stuffed with hot terms like ai-slop, claude-code and agent-skills, and searching this phrase on GitHub topic pages, skill directories and Google ranks it near the top (inferred, fairly reliable). The cost is name collisions: another repo, dmmulroy/anti-slop (Oxlint rules, 5,969 stars, author with 40k followers on X), is often confused with it.

**Ignite it in your own country first.** The author had nobody watching on X, but had 3,419 followers on Threads. @novn_'s post sold not the features but "built by an Indonesian dev." The author's pinned post says the same: "Glad this locally built skill is going global." The README includes a full Indonesian version. Then Indonesian tech creators on TikTok followed: @hexalab.tech 9-20 posted a video with 176K views, its title also emphasizing "open source by Indonesians"; the repo gained 191 stars the next day.

**Saturate every install entry point.** One line, `npx antislop-ai`, installs it; it's listed on skills.sh; ten agents each have a plugin install command; and a single-file `antislop.md` can be pasted into any chat window. With this many entry points, skill aggregators and repost accounts index it automatically (SkillsLLM, TypingMind, skillsdirectory, Medium, YouTube "Github Awesome", etc.).

### How the stars came in waves

| Timeline | Stars (daily or cumulative) | What happened |
|---|---|---|
| 8-07 ~ 9-06 | About 1,300 cumulative (estimated) | Repo created; author posts on Threads; early skill directories index it |
| 9-05 ~ 9-07 | 9-07 that day +328 | @novn_ post 84.6K views; Github Awesome short video 18K views |
| 9-19 ~ 9-21 | 9-21 that day +191 | Indonesian TikTok creators pick it up, top video 176K views |
| 10-07 ~ 10-10 | 10-09 that day +536 | 60 days after creation, on GitHub's JavaScript daily chart for 4 days, peak rank #2 |
| Mid-October ~ 11-06 | 60 ~ 190 per day | No new events, growth from directories and long-tail search; last 7 days +785, first 7 days +694 |

(daily figures from Trendshift and GitHub, as of 11-06)

The 10-09 wave is the one to note. For the month before, it had some buzz but never made Trending; on day 60 it made it. It looks like a new repo needs about 60 days before it qualifies for GitHub Trending (inferred from charting times across several repos; GitHub hasn't published this rule).

People really are using it, not just starring it: 𝑠kills.sh shows 6 skills with 46.9K cumulative installs; the npm package antislop-ai got about 9,000 downloads each in September and October (npm, 11-05). For comparison, hallmark's single skill has 93.6K installs. English-speaking big accounts barely touched it: no X posts about it turn up in search, and nothing on Hacker News.

### What keeps people around

- Frequent iteration: by 11-05 it had shipped 30 versions and 143 commits, mostly fixing the installer;

- Two uses, "manage while building" and "audit existing code"; the PASS/FAIL report at the end makes its work visible;

- Rode the DESIGN.md wave: 8-31 Vercel's Guillermo Rauch wrote on X "your next design system is a markdown file," 4,283 likes. anti-slop positions itself as the other half of DESIGN.md.

The author 11-04 posted "Antislop not for sale", so someone has apparently already come to them about buying it.

### Who it's competing with

| Project | Scale (11-06) | How it differs from anti-slop |
|---|---|---|
| Leonxlnx/taste-skill | 111K stars | Supplies the agent with an art direction and reference images: it adds style |
| pbakaus/impeccable | 104K stars | The earliest in the category, a design vocabulary plus polish / critique / audit commands |
| blader/humanizer | 65K stars | Only removes AI flavor from text |
| Nutlope/hallmark | 49k stars, +6,737 in the last 7 days | Ships 50 themes, delivers good-looking results directly, and is still accelerating |
| hardikpandya/stop-slop, petergyang/no-ai-slop | 18.7k / 13k stars | Text only |
| heydamir/unslop | Created 10-29, about 8k stars in 10 days | Turns vibe-coded interfaces into designed ones; passed anti-slop within a week |
| dmmulroy/anti-slop | 5,969 stars | Same name, but TS/JS code rules |
| Anthropic's official frontend-design, Cursor's official unslop | Shipped with official distribution | Big companies have entered too |

There are 106 repos on GitHub with antislop in the name, some copying the skill description word for word. By scale, miqdad's ranks roughly 8 to 10.

### If it were you

**One-line verdict** : don't build another anti-slop; the thing worth copying is its playbook: ignite it in a native-language community, use the category term as the name, saturate the install entry points, and wait 60 days to hit Trending.

- **Who it suits** : people with some presence in a non-English developer community (Threads, TikTok, Jike, Qiita, Zenn, Velog all count), even with zero X followers; and anyone with a topic currently being taught by big repos, whose name and entry points aren't yet taken.

- **Who it doesn't suit** : anyone who wants to build a generic "de-AI-ify" tool. The leaders sit at 100K-star level, and the newcomer unslop reached 10K stars in 8 days, with official players now in; as the 107rd same-name repo, you won't get search or directory placement.

- **How to do it** : pick an agent-skill category that a couple of big repos have just pushed into view and are still growing, and build the piece they haven't done well: a narrower scenario, broader agent support, or a language-specific version (for example, managing AI flavor in copy for one native language). Name the repo with a word people will search; put before/after images on the README's first screen; ship a one-line npx install, plugin commands for each agent, and a single-file version.

- **How to get users** : in the first wave, target the native-language community with the story "something built by a local is being used worldwide"; have local tech creators make short videos and provide a native-language README. Then submit to every directory like skills.sh and let repost accounts find you. Save the biggest push for around day 60, concentrate it into a few days, and aim for Trending.

- **When to get in** : no fixed date, but time it to the category: ideally enter while the leading repo is still accelerating and same-name repos are under a few dozen. anti-slop entered about 9 months after impeccable took off and half a year after taste-skill, and only got the tail end of the second tier; any later and only the long tail is left.

- **Signs you've misjudged it** : your native-language first wave passes ten thousand views but stars don't reach a few hundred; or you hit 60 days without charting on any language's daily list. That means the category has been cleaned out by the leaders, or your community doesn't overlap with people who star. Then switch topics instead of polishing the README.

## Why miqdadbadjuber/anti-slop took off

> Channel: GitHub. Research day 2026-11-06. Data: our github library (repo_profile / data cards), GitHub API, Trendshift daily star gains, skills.sh, the npm downloads API, Threads / TikTok (TikHub) / YouTube / Reddit / Medium pages, the X corpus (x-radar), the HN library.

### One line

A rule pack for AI coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Antigravity and a dozen-plus others): 40 hard rules plus a PASS/FAIL self-check before delivery, designed to filter out "AI-looking" UI (purple gradients, three symmetrical cards, fake data), copy (emoji bullet lists, hype tone) and code comments. The author is Miqdad Badjuber, an indie developer in Indonesia, and this is his only public repo.

### Verdict

It is a **mid-tier latecomer** in the broader "anti-slop" category, and it took off through three things stacking together:

1. **It rode demand that bigger repos had already educated the market about** : "stop AI from making AI-looking UI" was already well established by pbakaus/impeccable (104k stars), Leonxlnx/taste-skill (110k stars) and Nutlope/hallmark (49k stars), and users were actively searching for "anti slop skill". It grabbed the most straightforward name, `anti-slop`, and that term ranks high on GitHub, Google and the various skill directories.

2. **Indonesian local communities lit the fuse first** : the author had only 30 followers on X but 3,419 on Threads. In Sep 5, Indonesian developer @novn_ posted on Threads ("Browsing GitHub, found an anti-slop built by an **Indonesian developer** ") and got 84.6K views, 2.2K likes, and 320 reposts. The same day, Github Awesome's YouTube short got 18K views, and Trendshift recorded +7 stars in a single day in Sep 328. After that, Indonesian TikTok creators (@hexalab.tech's one video with 9-20 at 176K views) and a flood of Indonesian-language Threads discussions carried it on. The author's pinned post reads "Senang skill buatan lokal ini mendunia" (Happy that this locally built skill is going global). "A local creation going global" was the hook that spread in the Indonesian circles.

3. **Covering every distribution entry point** : the skills.sh directory, the `npx antislop-ai` installer, plugin install paths for 10 agents including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Antigravity, Kimi, Cline and Pi, and a single-file `antislop.md` you can paste straight into any chat. It was auto-indexed by SkillsLLM, TypingMind, skillsdirectory, qai.io, skills-hub, Medium, codestuff, DevPik, SSD Nodes and other aggregators and content farms, so long-tail traffic keeps arriving. The repo hit the 60-day mark (10-07), which made it eligible for GitHub Trending; 10-07~10-10 it reached the JavaScript daily chart (Trendshift logged #12→#6→#2→#22), and 10-09 it gained +536 in a single day. That was its one big spike.

The two months since have been a steady long tail of 60~190 stars a day, with no second acceleration.

### Growth data

- Stars: 8,455 (GitHub API, 11-06), forks 567 (fork/star ratio 6.7%, below the 5000% median for our "new repos with ≥11 stars" set, though not out of line). Repo age: 2026-08-07,91 days.

- Day by day (Trendshift 2026-09-07 ~ 11-06): 61 days at +7,161 stars, which implies about 1,300 stars over the prior month (8-07~9-06). 9-07 +328; mid-September daily gains of 100~190; 10-07~10-10 +186/+269/+536/+198 (JS daily chart); October through today, daily gains of 60~165.

- Our library: +7 in the last 785 days, +7 in the prior 694 days, status "steady growth", suspect field empty, trending_days_any = 0 (10-09~10-27 we only pulled the all-language, python, typescript and rust charts, not JavaScript, so we missed its JS daily chart days).

- Real usage signals: across 6 skills on skills.sh, 46.9K total installs (the core antislop skill 9.2K); npm package antislop-ai downloads: August 2,085, September 9,029, October 9,273, first 5 days of November 2,963 (npm downloads API). For comparison: hallmark's single skill has 93.6K installs, stop-slop 19.1K.

- Star milestones cited by third parties: DevPik 10-01 wrote "over 4,200 stars"; a Meta AI reply on Threads cited "5k stars on GitHub" (around early October); "32.2K installs" and "40.1K installs" (October).

### Competitors

| Name | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs from anti-slop |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Leonxlnx/taste-skill | Open source | 2026-02 | 111K stars | Gives the agent "taste": art direction, reference images, browser checks. It is about adding things; anti-slop emphasizes "only filtering, not defining a style". |
| pbakaus/impeccable | Open source | 2025-11 | 104K stars | A design vocabulary plus polish/bolder/critique/audit commands, an early pioneer; anti-slop works more like a checklist gate. |
| Nutlope/hallmark | Open source | 2026-04 | 49k stars, 93.6K skills.sh installs, +6,737 in the last 7 days (accelerating) | Ships with 50 themes and gives good-looking results directly; anti-slop states outright that it "doesn't handle looking good, direction comes from your DESIGN.md". |
| blader/humanizer | Open source | 2026-01 | 65K stars | Only handles de-AI-ing text; anti-slop splits UI/copy/code comments/accessibility/mobile into 6 skills. |
| hardikpandya/stop-slop | Open source | 2026-01 | 18.7K stars | Text |
| petergyang/no-ai-slop | Open source | 2026-07 | 13K stars | Text |
| heydamir/unslop | Open source | 2026-10-29 | 8 days ~10k stars | Turns vibe-coded UI into designed interfaces, a strong new rival that passed it within a week |
| dmmulroy/anti-slop | Open source | 2026-08-12 | 5,969 stars | Same name! This is an Oxlint rule (TS/JS code) by @dillon_mulroy (40k followers); his X launch post got 2,617 likes. The two same-named repos are often confused. |
| unslop (pstack) in cursor/plugins | Big-company features | 2026 | Cursor's official plugin repo | Only handles text, 28 rules |
| Anthropic's official frontend-design skill | Big-company features | 2025 | anthropics/skills, 188k stars | An official "anti-AI-slop aesthetics" design skill, distributed with Claude Code |
| yetone/kill-ai-slop, Yu-369/VibeCurb, theclaymethod/unslop and others | Open source | 2026 | 0.1~1.4k stars | Similar small repos |

Bottom line: it isn't that there are no competitors. The category is extremely crowded, and by scale it ranks around 8~10.

### Growth tactics (evidence)

1. **Indonesian Threads community** (confirmed): @novn_'s post got 9-05 84.6K views, 2.2K likes and 320 reposts; the author has 3,419 followers on Threads and his pinned post has 1.5K likes; @kawankoding (an Indonesian programming account) started a "how to keep AI-built UI from looking like slop" discussion with 8-29 13.1K views; plenty of Indonesian-language posts, and Meta AI auto-answering in Indonesian on Threads (a sign the discussion volume is high). The README includes a full Indonesian version.

2. **Indonesian TikTok creators** (confirmed, via TikHub): @hexalab.tech video 9-20 with 176k views ("open-source buatan [an Indonesian]"); @pandurijal 9-19 12.5k; @ciptadwipajayaa 9-20 8.3K; @petteryanto_tech and @miawpawwww followed up with tutorials. The +191 star gain on 9-21 that day lines up.

3. **GitHub repo-reposting accounts** (confirmed): YouTube "Github Awesome" 9-05 short videos, 18k views; TikTok @github.signals 9-11 8.6K; Facebook githunt posts; Reddit r/BestGitHubRepos 9-11 posts; codestuff.io 9-16 "one repo a day"; Medium Coding Nexus 9-16 articles; DevPik 10-01, SSD Nodes late-October tutorials.

4. **Skill directories and installers** (confirmed): listed on skills.sh with a badge, npx antislop-ai, and each agent's plugin marketplace; SkillsLLM, TypingMind, skillsdirectory (graded A), qai.io, skills-hub, and skillleaderboard (the author posted 11-05 saying it made the top 100).

5. **GitHub Trending eligibility day** (confirmed): from day 61 of the repo (10-07) it sat on the JS daily chart for 4 days, 10-09 at #2, with +536 that day. This fits the pattern we've observed, where a repo needs about 60 days before it can appear on trending.

6. **Name / SEO** (inferred, fairly credible): the repo name is the category keyword anti-slop plus 10 trending topics (ai-slop, claude-code, agent-skills…), so both the GitHub topic pages and a Google search for "anti slop skill" rank it high.

7. **X / HN** (nothing found): the x-radar corpus has no posts from miqdad or antislop.ai.id; the author has 30 followers on X; no related story in the HN library. Almost no reposts from the English core community.

8. **Star farming** (no evidence seen): our suspect field is empty; there are real install counts (46.9K) and npm downloads; the star curve is smooth and lines up with content events. GitHub no longer publishes stargazer lists, so accounts can't be checked one by one.

### Why people stayed

- Clear before/after comparisons (one each for UI, copy and code), easy to grasp at a glance;

- Split into 6 small skills loaded on demand; two modes, during (manage while building) and after (audit existing code); the ending forces a PASS/FAIL report, so users can see "what it did";

- Fast iteration: 30 releases (v3.2.26 to 11-05), 143 commits, quick fixes to the installer;

- A clear stance: "it's a filter, not a style guide". Paired with DESIGN.md (Vercel's Guillermo Rauch posted on X, "Your next design system is Markdown/DESIGN.md", 4,283 likes; 8-31), it rides the DESIGN.md narrative.

### Differentiation

- Compared with taste-skill / hallmark / impeccable: it **gives no style, it only removes slop** , with wider coverage (UI + copy + code comments + accessibility + mobile) and a mandatory delivery gate. It also has **the broadest install channels** (10+ agents).

- The differentiation helps, but it isn't the main reason it took off. The main reasons were **the "local pride" spread in the Indonesian community + category-keyword naming + the long tail of skill directories** . Its scale (8.4K stars) is far below the category leaders, which shows the differentiation alone didn't push it to the top.

### Is anyone copying it?

- There are a lot of same-name and near-name repos: searching GitHub for antislop turns up 106 with the name, including JZKK720/anti-slop (8-12 forks), aicodedecode/antislop on skillsdirectory copying its SKILL description word for word, roedyrustam/anti-slop, jzkk720/anti-slop, and sickn33's anti-slop-design. The author 9-11 pinned a post saying "an Oracle product manager also built an antislop skill."

- The bigger threat is a new entrant, heydamir/unslop (created 10-29, 8 days in, 10k stars).

### Visibility

Whispers in small circles: Indonesian developers on Threads/TikTok and in skill directories and repost accounts have some buzz; English X big accounts, HN and mainstream tech media haven't covered it. Open source, no revenue. The author 11-04 posted "Antislop not for sale", which means someone has already tried to buy it.

### What others can borrow

1. **Claimed the category keyword as the repo name** , filling the topics and catching long-tail search;

2. **Ignited in the home-language community first** : you don't need an X following. 'A local person's thing used worldwide' is a natural hook on Indonesian Threads/TikTok, paired with a README in the local language;

3. **One installer plus plugin entry points for every agent, and a single-file version** , cutting the friction of installing to a minimum so aggregator sites pick it up automatically;

4. **Before/after comparison images in the README's first screen** ;

5. Track GitHub Trending's 60-day eligibility threshold and hold a push for around day 60.

### Unknowns

- The specific sources of the first 1,300 stars between 8-07 and 9-06 (presumably the author's own Threads posts plus early directory listings) — I didn't get day-by-day data;

- For the big spike between 10-07 and 10-09, besides Trending eligibility, the antislop.ai.id site launched 10-05 signups in the same period and may have run a promo video, but I couldn't find that video itself;

- The Reddit post content was blocked, so I couldn't read it;
