In Sep 22, an AI account with 170k followers promoted it as a "skill you can install in Doubao," right when Doubao had just opened custom skills. It gained over 1,700 stars in three days, and a string of copycat tutorials brought in a long tail.

It isn't the first open-source project to do this, but it has the most stars. Most people who came were not programmers. They were ordinary users who saw "Doubao can do this too" on Douyin. The way its stars grew is worth learning from, but dating as a topic is already taken.

None of the most-liked comments asked "how does this work":

On GitHub, Gou Tou Jun Shi gained 530 stars that day, 782 the next day, and 403 on the third day (Trendshift). On the second day, the author opened a new repo under the same organization, goutoujunshi-jev-chat. It's a floating window that reads WeChat screens and helps you reply to messages, exactly the thing the comments wanted. By November it had 594 stars (GitHub, 11-06).

### What it is

A Skill installed in an AI assistant: a SKILL.md file with a written workflow, plus 40 knowledge documents called on by scenario (relationship psychology, attachment, dating, the risks of PUA and alternatives, Chinese marriage and family law, domestic violence and crisis referral, sexual consent), and a local memory script that only saves a profile after the user nods.

The flow chart in the README titled "how a typical answer is produced" is the product: emotional grounding → build profiles for both sides → separate facts, guesses, and unknowns → call only the knowledge needed → weigh reciprocity, risks, and opportunity cost → give a clear top recommendation, plus a line you can send, an observation period, and a "stop here" condition. How it differs from paid "high-EQ reply" apps, in the words on the README's front page: "It doesn't just reply to messages for you. It helps you see the relationship clearly, judge the situation, and decide what to do next."

Installation is also written for non-programmers. The README has just one line: send your AI assistant the instruction "Download and install the public repo [github.com/shengjidaguai-china/goutoujunshi](https://github.com/shengjidaguai-china/goutoujunshi) as a local Skill". No git knowledge needed.

By 11-06 it had 9,250 stars and 948 forks (GitHub). The fork rate is about 10%, much higher than typical projects. Most likely many non-developers read "Fork" as "Save."

### How the stars came: three waves of Douyin videos

**Wave one: the author's own course.** The author is Douyin vibecoding teacher "Run Jump Bounce" (Pao Pao Peng Peng Tiao Tiao Tiao), with 14k followers. The GitHub account powerycy is inferred from matching video captions and repo creation dates. The repo was created in Jul 20. In Jul 21 she posted "Vibecoding Lesson 4: How to make a skill (Gou Tou Jun Shi)," which got 1,777 likes. The caption said it was "a side effect of teaching, built in an hour" and "everyone was so enthusiastic, it reached 200 stars on GitHub." The next day it hit GitHub Trending with +319 in a single day. In Jul 23 she posted a "big update to the script pack" with 7,245 likes, putting the search path right in the caption: "Search goutoujunshi on GitHub, redskill, or skillhub." By Jul 27, the Toutiao long-form article headline was "One week, a thousand stars: why this AI dating strategist is so hot," when it had 966 stars.

**The middle month and a half: slow growth.** In Aug 10, the author posted "Gou Tou Jun Shi is almost at 2k stars," with 5,230 likes. It was about the project being used by "overseas compatriots"; later Sohu reported that people running a grey-market scam, "Beng Lao Tou" (scamming older men on overseas dating apps), had approached her to cooperate. In late August the repo moved to the newly created organization "Upgrade Monster Open Source Community," and the license changed from non-commercial to MIT. In early to mid September it gained only 6–25 stars a day, reaching about 21 stars by Sep 2,800.

**Wave two: Doubao can now install skills.** In Aug 21, Doubao launched a "skills" feature that lets users upload custom skills (Sina Finance). That turned a "Codex Skill" into something an ordinary person could use right inside Doubao. The Sep 22 "10x Productivity" video sold exactly that: you can install it in Doubao too. In those three days it gained over 1,700 stars and ranked #12 and #13 on Trendshift's overall chart.

**Wave three: copycat tutorials.** Over the next two weeks, a string of tutorials appeared on Douyin: "Douban" (not the official account), Sep 26, "Sharing a recently viral emotional skill, Gou Tou Jun Shi," with 9,115 likes; "How to install the Gou Tou Jun Shi skill in Doubao, full hands-on demo," with 1,829 likes; plus dozens to hundreds of likes from small accounts like "Heart of Fire" and "AI Evil Path" (Douyin, 11-06). From Sep 24 to 30, it gained +235 to +322 a day. In October it slowly fell back to +40 to +170 a day, while Zhihu, CSDN, SEO articles, and skill aggregator sites indexed it one after another. On Oct 30, Sina Finance and Sohu both ran a review, "This Skill called Gou Tou Jun Shi, can it teach me to date?" that put it side by side with "ordinary AI replies."

Sources: Douyin, kairotry, Toutiao, Trendshift, GitHub. Every spike lines up with a video, and there's no sign of star-buying. But individual stargazer accounts couldn't be checked, so this is unverified. It's also unknown whether the Sep 22 big-account video was organic or paid.

### Why this one, and not other dating skills

There are at least a dozen similar open-source projects, most of them older. In 2026 3, in April, a "XX.skill" trend swept the Chinese-language community: Colleague.skill had 26k stars, Ex.skill had 6,592 stars, a Tong Jincheng perspective Skill had 2,982 stars, and "She's Different," which only analyzes WeChat chat history, had 1,002 stars (GitHub, 11-06). Dating-coach projects nearly identical to it, like simp-skill, Qing Sheng, Dating Agent, and yinyuan-skills, have only 72 to 498 stars.

The product does look more polished: it addresses emotions first, separates facts from guesses, gives stop conditions, a large reference diagram with 135 source documents, and explicitly supports LGBTQ and polyamorous relationships. In side-by-side screenshots it looks more professional at a glance, which makes big accounts willing to promote it and reviewers willing to praise it. But similar projects with the same idea only have a few hundred stars. What set it apart were three things others lacked: **the author is herself a Douyin teaching creator** , so the first thousand stars for the cold start came from her followers; **Doubao opening up skills** at that moment widened the audience from programmers to Douyin's emotional-content audience; and **a catchy name** , since "Gou Tou Jun Shi" ("dog-head strategist") is made for short-video titles. Even crypto projects later borrowed the name.

There's also a deeper reason: "how do I reply to this" and "I can't read the signals in this flirtation" are already among the biggest emotional needs on Douyin and Xiaohongshu. On iOS, paid reply-script apps like Lovekey, 恋小语 and 恋话宝 each have three to five thousand ratings, so the demand was validated long ago. 狗头军师 just repackaged it as the trendiest word of 2026: Skill.

### What the users are saying

The comments show who's coming in. Some are using it: "I tried it, I think the analysis is pretty good." Some were hit hard: "Me: Gou Tou Jun Shi, help me analyze and sum up this relationship... AI: your seven years of inner turmoil... Me (heartbroken): I'm deleting you today." Some can't get it installed: "My Doubao says it can't load." "Why can't I see the skill after automated installation?" And some don't know what GitHub is: "How do I sign up for a GitHub account?" "I've been left behind by the times, I don't understand a thing."

There's also an uglier side: "Can use it to scam old men" (47 likes), "refined chat skill," "use it for shady relationship needs." A tool that teaches persuasion and reads people is naturally going to be used for things people shouldn't do. The author's August video was about exactly this.

### Who's already following it

Copycats came fast: 温言 (an Android/Windows app built on its knowledge base, 97 stars), miaotoujunshi, goutoujunshi-jev, plus a "dating bible Agent" based on Gou Tou on the comments page. The author's own jev-chat has 594 stars. And BossHunter, a job-hunting Agent under the same organization, has 1,541 stars: the same playbook on a different topic, reaching a sixth of its numbers.

In Chinese AI circles and Douyin AI circles, it has already been covered to death: a single video with 56k likes, and Toutiao, Zhihu, CSDN, Sina, and Sohu have all written about it. Almost nobody in the English-speaking world has mentioned it.

### If it were you

**B** Worth a try, the opening is there, but with clear weak spots. What you can learn is the whole playbook: a strong-emotion, high-frequency everyday topic, a flow you can demonstrate side by side, a zero-friction install command, and short-video distribution. The weakness is that dating is already taken, and the top-star spot is gone. Its two big inflection points relied on one a creator's own Douyin account and one video from a 170k-follower big account. If you don't have those two things, a copy will most likely land at simp-skill's few hundred stars.

**Who it's for** Developers who have a short-video account (even one with 10,000 to 20,000 followers) and can demo AI in their videos, or anyone who can build a skill whose comparison screenshot makes people want to share it the moment they see it.

**Who it's not for** Anyone who only writes code and won't put themselves on camera to make content. Same-idea clones without a video channel behind them have all stalled at a few hundred stars. And anyone who wants to build a dating-strategist: that spot is taken, and commenters will tell you straight up, "isn't this just Goutou Junshi?"

**How to build it** Change the topic, keep the playbook. Copy the high-emotion, high-frequency, everyone-hits-it stuff from Douyin: how to review a fight, talking to in-laws and parents, how to reply to your boss, debt collection, rental disputes, kids who won't do homework. Do what it does: acknowledge the emotion first, separate facts from guesses, end with one line they can send as-is and a stop condition. Load the knowledge base by scenario, attach a big "N reference docs" image, and make the first screen of the README one sentence: "Send this to your AI assistant." The other path is to fix what it got wrong. The top-liked requests in the comments are "hook it into chat apps for auto-replies" and "can't install it in Doubao." A version that installs in Doubao, Coze, or Xiaohongshu Red Skill with one click, or an installer that documents those pitfalls, would both find buyers. But think hard before building the "auto-reply for you" route, because you need a plan for when it gets used to scam old men. The English-speaking side is almost empty too: an English relationship advisor skill, posted on TikTok and X, and I haven't seen anyone make that work.

**How to get users** Post videos yourself, titled "Doubao can do this now" rather than "I open-sourced a project." Make side-by-side images of a plain AI answer versus a "my skill" answer. Write "search xxx on GitHub" clearly in the video caption. Then go find the big accounts that cover AI tools and hand them the comparison image. Its biggest wave came from exactly that kind of account (I don't know whether the account picked it up themselves or someone pitched it to them). Submit it to every skill aggregator (skills.sh, skillsmp, redskill, etc.).

**When to move before** The novelty of "Doubao can install skills" is already a September story, and the tutorial accounts have worn out "how to install it." To ride this wave, you need to make your move on AI-driven relationship advice before year-end. After that, watch for the moment the next mainstream AI assistant opens up skills. Whoever demos a skill ordinary people can use in the week it opens gets the first bite.

**What would show I'm wrong** ① Over the next month or two, someone uses the same playbook on other topics (fights, in-laws, workplace) and reaches a thousand stars without a big account pushing it. That would mean the topic and playbook are strong enough to upgrade a grade. ② Doubao or Coze tightens or shuts down the skill entry point, or nobody searches for skills on Douyin anymore. The window has closed; downgrade to C. ③ Goutou Junshi's own daily star count drops to single digits in November and no clone picks up the slack. That would mean this wave is over.

Conclusion: the curve is **not smooth** . The dashboard's claim that daily growth is "unusually smooth and never trended" is wrong. It did hit GitHub Trending 7-22, there is a very clear spike 9-22/23, and it also made the top 25 on Trendshift. The chart looks smooth because our database only started recording on 10-09, so what we see is just the decay tail after the 9-22 wave. Every spike lines up with a Douyin video. I found no evidence of star farming (the stargazer list can't be read with a token, so I couldn't check accounts one by one; this part is unverified).
