# "I cancelled Acrobat": PdfCraft hit 20k stars in 37 days, half borrowed momentum, half picking the right category

**What it is** A free, open-source, offline desktop PDF reader and editor written in Rust, with an interface modeled on Acrobat. It also runs on Linux.

**Why it took off** It rode the same HN and tech-press wave as the whole ArtCraft "AI-written Adobe alternatives" suite. PDF editing is a need everyone runs into and nobody wants to pay for monthly, and Linux had no good option, so it got its own reviews and a pile of "I cancelled Acrobat" posts.

**C** **How you could approach it** Don't build another open-source Acrobat. Apply the same logic to pick a subscription app that ArtCraft hasn't covered yet, is seen as overpriced, and has no Linux alternative. Copy the incumbent's interface and pitch it to Linux columnists and Show HN.

Grade C: the category and promotion approach are worth studying, but PDF is already taken by Stirling-PDF (96k stars) and PdfCraft itself. Most of PdfCraft's stars came from the parent brand's overall surge, which followers can't borrow. Ports and localized forks of it only reach a few hundred stars. PdfCraft is the Acrobat stand-in in ArtCraft's "AI-written Adobe replacement" suite: an open-source PDF reader and editor written in pure Rust. The early stars came from the whole suite launching together. PdfCraft never hit the Hacker News front page on its own. It later ranked second in the suite and cooled more slowly than its siblings, thanks to the resentment of "use it occasionally, pay monthly anyway," which almost everyone shares. This playbook is learnable, but building another clone of it isn't worth it.

### A lawyer who cancelled their subscription

Early on 2026 Oct 13, a Hacker News user, captainkrtek, left a comment in the ArtCraft thread: "I know it's not perfect. But I was paying for Adobe Acrobat to handle legal documents (not often, but often enough that I had to keep paying), and PdfCraft is good enough for me. I cancelled my subscription."

Five days earlier, another user, hereme888, asked more bluntly: "Why should anyone pay Acrobat $15–25 a month when there's a free PDFCraft?" In r/ArtCraftAI on Reddit, someone also posted under the title "I uninstalled Acrobat DC thanks to PdfCraft."

The repo was created on Sep 30, originally named PrintCraft. The official site's /apps/printcraft path still redirects to /apps/pdfcraft 301. By Nov 6 it had 19,683 stars and 7,350 forks (GitHub star counts are recorded daily, 11-06).

### What it is

A free, open-source (Apache-2.0), offline desktop PDF editor that needs no account. It edits text directly, adds annotations, merges and splits, fills and signs forms, compresses, and converts to Word. It runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, and FreeBSD, plus a web version. The interface is almost a copy of Acrobat's; one HN commenter said "even the rounded corners are the same." Anyone who has used Acrobat can open it and start working.

It also ships a command-line tool and an MCP server so AI agents can operate on PDFs directly. That's rare in PDF editors, but judging by the discussion, nobody came for it.

It's still alpha. How-To Geek's Oct 22 hands-on review tested 9 items: editing existing text, saving and reopening, printing, annotations, reflowing and rotating pages, merging, signing, and compression all passed. PDF-to-Word only passed partially, losing table backgrounds and borders. The author's verdict was "good enough to replace Acrobat for me."

### How the stars came: riding the wave first

PdfCraft, PhotoCraft, FilmCraft, and VectorCraft were all created within minutes of each other on the same afternoon, Sep 30. On Oct 4, "ArtCraft Apps – open-source Adobe compatible suite written in Rust" hit HN with 180 points and 246 comments. Phoronix followed on Oct 7, and on X a big account reposted "someone rebuilt the whole Adobe family with Opus 5.5."

PdfCraft's biggest single-day star gain was Oct 11, +1,718. PhotoCraft's peak day was also Oct 11, +7,184. Both peaked the same day, which suggests the first ~20k stars came mainly from the suite's buzz, not from PdfCraft on its own. Its only solo HN submission was "PdfCraft v0.8.0" on Oct 15, and it got 4 points.

| Timeline | What happened | stars |
|---|---|---|
| 9-30 | Created the same afternoon as its sibling apps, under the name PrintCraft | — |
| 10-04 ~ 10-07 | The whole suite hit HN, Phoronix, and big X accounts | — |
| 10-11 | The whole suite peaked the same day | Single day +1,718 |
| 10-17 | — | 14,833 |
| 10-19, 10-22 | ZDNet and How-To Geek each wrote a standalone PdfCraft review | 400–500 installs per day |
| 11-06 | A new release almost every day | 19,683, 139 added per day |

Data: GitHub star counts recorded daily (since 10-17; for earlier dates we only know the single peak day).

### Why it cooled more slowly than its siblings

PhotoCraft is the suite's largest (77k stars). PdfCraft ranks second among individual apps, ahead of FilmCraft, WordCraft, and LightCraft. The cooldown speed is more telling: it gained 1,074 stars in the last 7 days, and 7 stars in the first 1,444 days, retaining 74%. PhotoCraft retained 67%, FilmCraft 66%, LightCraft 65% (GitHub star counts, 11-06).

There are probably three reasons:

- **The demand is the broadest.** Photoshop and Premiere alternatives appeal to professional users who must test them. Editing a PDF is something office workers, lawyers, and freelancers all run into. "Occasional use, monthly fee" is the classic subscription grievance. Online, the wording is almost always the same: "I cancelled Acrobat." That line spreads easily.

- **Linux never had one.** ZDNet's Oct 19 piece was titled "I tried the free Adobe Acrobat clone – and finally have a pro PDF editor on Linux." The author had been patching PDFs on Linux with LibreOffice Draw and ONLYOFFICE. Linux users also happen to be among GitHub's most generous starrers.

- **It actually works, and it updates fast.** How-To Geek 9 items passed 8 items; the README says it crashed on 983 of pdf.js's test files 0. In 37 days it shipped 21 releases, almost one a day in November, and each one was announced in the Reddit subreddit, so long-time users come back every few days to check. Around 4,400 commits, with a fork-to-star ratio of 0.37, twice PhotoCraft's, and plenty of outside contributors.

The release files have also been downloaded 3.37M times in total (GitHub, 11-06). The launcher auto-updates, so one person gets counted several times. That number can't be read as user count. It only shows that many non-developers really are installing it.

There's criticism too. On HN, lr0 said the apps have "so many bugs it's embarrassing to call them reimplementations," and claimed someone was upvoting storytold's apps on HN. Others questioned the "clean-room" claim, and the team responded that the implementation is 100% clean-room and involves no decompilation. Whether Adobe will act is unknown from the outside.

### Who it's competing with

| Project | Launched | Scale | How PdfCraft differs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adobe Acrobat | 1993 | Industry standard, Pro about $15–25/month | What it copies |
| Stirling-PDF | 2023-01 | 95.8k stars, +448 in the last 7 days | Self-hosted web toolkit, not a desktop editor |
| BentoPDF | 2025-10 | 16.3K stars | Browser-local toolkit, also promoted earlier by How-To Geek |
| PDFCraftTool/pdfcraft | 2026-01 | 9,773 stars | A same-named browser toolkit that came earlier; media summaries have already mixed the two up |
| SumatraPDF, PDF.js | 2006–2011 | 17.9k / 54.1k stars | Read-only, no editing |
| iLovePDF, Smallpdf | 2010 era | Hundreds of millions of visits | Uploads to the cloud, limited free tier |

Stars: GitHub, 11-06.

PDF tools are already crowded in open source. Stirling-PDF took nearly three years to reach 96k stars, and now gains only 448 a week, less than half of PdfCraft's pace. A free, native desktop editor that looks like Acrobat and really lets you edit text is an open slot, but PdfCraft already holds it.

### What the followers are building

People are already building around it: artcraft-android/pdfcraft-android (an Android port, 277 stars, created 10-13), awpde/pdfcraft-zh (auto-built Simplified Chinese Windows installers), wongzaputt/pdfcraft-thai (Thai version), linuxserver/docker-craft-apps (running the web version in Docker), plus a pile of "how to use PdfCraft" review sites and YouTube tutorials. These are small projects, mostly under a few hundred stars.

### If it were you

**Verdict:** Learn how it picks categories, but don't copy the build. The slot for "another open-source Acrobat" is already held by PdfCraft and Stirling-PDF. Much of its 20k stars came from the parent brand, which you can't borrow.

**Good fit for:** Solo developers who want stars for their open-source project, have an AI-driven coding pipeline, and can ship several versions a week. Also people who know Linux desktops well, or a community that a subscription app "holds hostage" (lawyers, accountants, designers, academics).

**Not a fit for:** Anyone aiming to slowly build stars with a more powerful PDF toolkit, or anyone unwilling to face questions like "too many bugs" and "is it copied?"

**How to do it:** Apply the same logic to a different category. Find a subscription app that users use occasionally but are forced to pay for monthly, with no solid Linux alternative, and that ArtCraft hasn't covered. Copy the incumbent's interface so people face zero learning curve, and open the repo description with "free, open-source alternative to X." If you don't want to start from scratch, you can also build what the official project hasn't: Android, a winget or Scoop package source, or a localized version in some language. But expect projects like this to reach only a few hundred stars.

**How to get users:** Post a Show HN, and submit to r/linux, r/selfhosted, and r/opensource. Reach out directly to Linux columnists at outlets like ZDNet and How-To Geek, who specialize in "free alternative" pieces. Put a user's "I cancelled X" quote in the README and posts. Release often, and post every release to the community.

**Why now:** The "AI rebuilds subscription software" topic is hot, and ArtCraft keeps adding apps one category at a time. The more categories it covers, the fewer open slots you have, so the best time to move is the next month or two.

**What would mean we misread it:** ① PdfCraft's weekly growth is still above 1,000 in late November, so PDF demand is bigger than it looks. A differentiated PDF editor still has room. ② If Adobe sends a legal letter or GitHub takes the repo down, then copying big-brand UIs carries legal risk and we need a different approach. ③ If someone launches an "open-source alternative" in a category ArtCraft doesn't cover and it clears 5,000 stars within a month, that shows it can take off without a parent brand. That would make this opportunity better than a C grade.

Competitors

| Name | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs from this one |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adobe Acrobat | Big-company features | 1993 | Industry standard, Pro about $15–25/month | PdfCraft is free, open-source, offline, and needs no account. Its UI is nearly a copy of Acrobat's, but it's still alpha, and conversion to Word and complex layouts are unreliable. |
| Stirling-PDF | Open source | 2023-01 | 95.8k stars, +448 in the last 7 days | A self-hosted web toolbox, not a desktop editor. PdfCraft is a native app that can edit body text, build forms, and sign documents directly. |
| BentoPDF | Web | 2025-10 | 16.3K stars | A browser-local toolbox built on pdf-lib. PdfCraft has its own rendering engine and a full reader. |
| PDFCraftTool/pdfcraft (same name) | Open source | 2026-01 | 9773 stars | A browser WASM toolbox with the same name. The names collide, and media summaries have already mixed them up. |
| SumatraPDF / PDF.js / built-in browser readers | Open source | 2006–2011 | SumatraPDF ~17.9k stars, PDF.js ~54.1k stars | Read and annotate only, no editing |
| PDFsam / qpdf / PDF Arranger | Open source | From ¥2006 | A few thousand stars | Only splits, merges, and reorders pages. PdfCraft covers all of that. |
| iLovePDF / Smallpdf | Web | 2010 era | Hundreds of millions of visits | Requires uploading to the cloud, with limited free quotas. PdfCraft is fully local. |
| ONLYOFFICE / LibreOffice Draw | Open source | Already around | Very large | The old workaround for editing PDFs on Linux. The ZDNet author called it clunky. |

## Why storytold/pdfcraft (PdfCraft) took off

> Channel: GitHub. Research day 2026-11-06. Data comes from our github library (repo_profile, data cards), the GitHub API (2026-11-06), web search (Jina), HN Algolia, and x-radar.

### One line

PdfCraft is the app in ArtCraft's (storytold) "Craft App Suite" that targets Adobe Acrobat: a pure-Rust PDF reader and editor written with AI (Claude Code). It never broke out on its own. Its traffic came from the parent brand's overall surge in early October (HN, Phoronix, big X accounts). But it's the second-largest app in the suite, and it cools more slowly than the others. The reason is that PDF editing is the category with the widest demand and the least need for professional skills. Acrobat costs $15–25/month, many users only need it occasionally and resent paying, and Linux has never had a decent PDF editor. So ZDNet and How-To Geek wrote standalone first-look reviews, and real users started posting "I uninstalled Acrobat."

### 1. Data

- Built on 2026-09-30 13:39, same day as photocraft, filmcraft and vectorcraft, minutes apart. The original name was **PrintCraft** : the site getartcraft.com/apps/printcraft now 301 redirects to /apps/pdfcraft, and on HN 10-08 someone already pointed out "printcraft or pdfcraft, the names don't match" (HN 50002409).

- Data card (2026-11-06): 19683 stars, 7350 forks, single-day peak +1718 (2026-10-11, the same day photocraft peaked at +7184). Last 7 days +1074, the prior 7 days +1444. The GitHub API reading today is 19777 stars and 7384 forks.

- Daily line (data card): it went from 14833 stars on 10-17 to 19683 on 11-06, a gain of 4850 over 20 days. Daily gains slowly fell from about 500 to about 140.

- Position inside the storytold org (github repo_profile, 2026-11-06): photocraft 77165 > artcraft main repo 38956 > **pdfcraft 19683** > filmcraft 17593 > wordcraft 17388 > lightcraft 15534 … It ranks second among all the individual apps. Week-over-week star retention: pdfcraft 0.74 (1074/1444), photocraft 0.67, filmcraft 0.66, lightcraft 0.65, vectorcraft 0.70. It's one of the older apps that cools most slowly.

- Weekly growth has already passed established projects in the same category: Stirling-PDF (95.8k stars, created in 2023) +448 over the last 7 days; BentoPDF (16.3k stars) +69; the same-named PDFCraftTool/pdfcraft (9773 stars) +59 (github library, 2026-11-06).

- Cumulative release asset downloads: **3,375,708** (GitHub API, 21 releases, v0.1.0 10-02 through v0.18.2 11-05). The most downloaded single versions were v0.9.0 at 358k and v0.6.0 at 355k. Note: many people install through craft-launcher, which auto-updates, so this number includes repeat counts and should not be read as a user count.

- Community size: about 4400 commits, PR/issue numbering has reached #6416, with 3251 open issues (GitHub API). Top contributors include aiongg (931 commits), echelon (294, i.e., Brandon Thomas's side), FredApps, mtlcl410, and others. The fork-to-star ratio is 0.37, far above photocraft's 0.18, which suggests many outside contributors are forking and opening PRs (the repo uses CodeRabbit for PR review and SonarCloud for scanning).

### 2. Competitors

| Name | Where | Launched | Scale | How PdfCraft differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adobe Acrobat(Reader / Pro) | Big-company features | 1993 | Industry standard, Pro subscription about $15–25/month | PdfCraft is free, open-source, offline, and needs no account. Its UI is nearly a copy of Acrobat's (one HN commenter said "even the rounded corners are the same"), so Acrobat users need no learning curve. But it's alpha, and complex layouts, PDF-to-Word conversion, and tables are still unreliable. |
| Stirling-PDF | Open source / web (self-hosted) | 2023-01 | 95.8k stars, +448 in the last 7 days | A self-hosted web toolbox (dozens of operations including merge, split, and OCR), not a desktop reader and editor. PdfCraft is a native desktop app that edits text, builds forms, and signs documents directly. |
| BentoPDF | Open source / web | 2025-10 | 16.3K stars | A browser-local toolbox built on pdf-lib, which How-To Geek also promoted before. PdfCraft has a full reader, its own rendering engine, and real text editing. |
| PDFCraftTool/pdfcraft (same name) | Open source / web | 2026-01 | 9773 stars | A browser PDF toolbox with the same name (90 features, WASM). The names collide. A How-To Geek Facebook post summary mixed the two up, so they may be splitting some search traffic (direction unverified). |
| SumatraPDF, Okular, PDF.js (built into Firefox), and the built-in readers in Chrome / Edge | Open-source / big-company offerings | 2006–2011 | SumatraPDF ~17.9k stars, PDF.js ~54.1k stars | Read and simple annotation only, no editing |
| PDFsam, PDF Arranger, qpdf | Open source | From ¥2006 | PDFsam 4656 stars, qpdf 5560 stars | Only splits, merges, and reorders pages. PdfCraft bundles all of that and uses qpdf for save validation. |
| ONLYOFFICE / LibreOffice Draw | Open source | Already around | Very large | The ZDNet author used these two to edit PDFs on Linux before, and called it "clunky" |
| iLovePDF, Smallpdf, and assorted online PDF sites | Web | 2010 era | Hundreds of millions of visits | Requires uploading to the cloud, with limited free quotas. One HN commenter said "pdfCraft is better than every PDF website on the internet" (reply under HN 50050813), while another asked whether it could beat iLovePDF (HN 50085319). |
| Foxit, PDF-XChange, Xodo, PDF Expert, Preview (built into macOS) | Other / big-vendor features | Already around | Mature | Commercial or single-platform; PdfCraft covers five platforms (including Linux / FreeBSD / Web) |
| hayro, lopdf, pdf-rs (Rust PDF libraries) | Open source | 2016–2025 | hayro 850 stars, lopdf 2292 stars | These are libraries only. PdfCraft's engine is built from scratch (per its README) and ships as GUI, CLI, and MCP. |

Bottom line: the category is extremely crowded, and open source already has Stirling-PDF at 96k stars. But a free, open-source, native desktop editor that looks like Acrobat and actually lets you edit text has been a real gap on Linux (ZDNet's words: "Finally, Linux has a powerful PDF editor").

### 3. Growth tactics (where users come from)

1. **Parent brand surge (confirmed, main cause)** : 2026-10-04 HN post "ArtCraft Apps – open-source Adobe compatible suite written in Rust" got 180 points / 246 comments (HN 49958850); 10-07 Phoronix coverage; on X, kimmonismus posted that someone rebuilt the whole Adobe family with Opus 5.5; How-To Geek: "A developer used AI to build 7 free Adobe alternatives." pdfcraft's single-day peak (10-11, +1718) fell on the same day as photocraft's (10-11, +7184), which suggests it was mainly carried along by the parent brand. PdfCraft's own HN post, "PdfCraft v0.8.0" (10-15, HN 50102597), reached only 4 points and never hit the front page on its own.

2. **Mainstream tech media ran standalone first-look reviews (confirmed)** : ZDNet 2026-10-19, "I tried the free Adobe Acrobat clone – and finally have a pro PDF editor on Linux" (Jack Wallen); How-To Geek 2026-10-22, "Adobe Acrobat costs money. PdfCraft does most of the same everyday work for free." The author tested 9 items and 8 passed, said they'd keep using it in place of Acrobat, and posted about it on X. Both pieces landed while daily gains were falling from 500, which is likely one reason it cools slowly (causality not verified).

3. **"Quit Acrobat" word of mouth (confirmed)** : r/ArtCraftAI "I uninstalled Acrobat DC thanks to PdfCraft" and "PdfCraft is a god send!" (one commenter says "cancelled Adobe today"); HN user captainkrtek: "I pay for Acrobat to handle legal documents... PdfCraft does the job, I cancelled" (HN 50065902); HN 50006377: "Why does Acrobat charge $15–25/month when the free PDFCraft exists?"

4. **YouTube and tutorials (confirmed, reach not verified)** : "PDFCraft? Someone Vibe Coded a Free Adobe Acrobat Clone (First Look)", "FREE Adobe Acrobat Alternative? Meet ArtCraft PDFCraft!", "Try PdfCraft… for Linux", Shorts install tutorials, a Facebook video "Free PDF Creator & Editor Artcraft PDFCraft vs Adobe Acrobat", plus posts on the LinusTechTips and Puppy Linux forums.

5. **Aggregators and SEO sites (confirmed)** : r/BestGitHubRepos reposts (10.1k stars at the time, titled "clean-room reimplementation of Adobe Acrobat"); ithub.directory, the pdnob.com "PdfCraft Review", a SourceForge mirror (pdfcraft-artcraft.mirror).

6. **Website and launcher distribution (confirmed)** : the main button on getartcraft.com/apps/pdfcraft is "Download Launcher", and ZDNet also says "the best way to get PDFCraft is to install the Craft Launcher". Each app's README links to the whole suite and to a Discord.

7. **Frequent releases (confirmed)** : 37 days, 21 releases, nearly one a day in November (v0.16.1→v0.18.2,10-31 to 11-05). Each release gets a post on r/ArtCraftAI (e.g. "pdfcraft v0.9.0"), which pulls old users back.

8. No evidence of ads or paid acquisition found; our x-radar corpus has 40 hits for "pdfcraft" in the last 0 days. That reflects what our local corpus captured, not whether nobody discussed it on X.

### 4. Why it took off

- **Rode the parent brand** : built and hit its single-day peak the same day, which suggests the first wave of stars came from ArtCraft's overall story ("AI cloned the whole Adobe family in one go"), not from PdfCraft on its own.

- **Broadest demand in the suite** : Photoshop and Premiere alternatives appeal to professionals, but PDF editing is needed by office workers, lawyers and freelancers alike, and "using it occasionally but paying monthly" is the classic subscription grievance (the Reddit and HN comments are literally "quit Acrobat"). That is why it ranks second in the suite and cools more slowly.

- **An empty Linux slot** : ZDNet makes exactly this point, and Linux users are a core audience for GitHub stars.

- **Actually works:** How-To Geek 9 of 8 items passed; the README says it hit a crash in 0 of the 983 pdf.js test files, saves incrementally and atomically, and CI validates every save with qpdf. Some non-technical users are really using it for work, not just starring the repo.

- **Community and AI pipeline make iteration very fast** : about 4400 commits, PR/issue #6416, daily versions; a high issue count (3251 open) actually signals that people are using it.

### 5. Differentiation

- Versus Acrobat: free, open source (MIT/Apache), no account, no telemetry, works offline; the UI copies Acrobat's layout, so switching has no learning curve.

- Versus web toolkits like Stirling-PDF and BentoPDF: it's a native desktop reader plus editor that can edit body text directly, build forms, sign, proofread OCR, with a custom Rust rendering engine, on five platforms plus the web.

- Versus SumatraPDF and PDF.js: it can edit, not just read.

- Built for agents: `pdfcraft-cli` plus an MCP server (JSON Schema tool table) plus `--control` to drive the GUI directly. This is rare among PDF editors, but judging by the discussion it isn't why users came.

- **Why it took off** : differentiation explains only half of it. "Looks like Acrobat, free, runs on Linux" gave media and quit-Acrobat users a reason to write about it and stick around, which is why it cools more slowly than its sibling apps. But the initial 20k stars came mainly from the parent brand's narrative plus distribution. A product with the same features launched on its own would struggle to reach that scale (Stirling-PDF took nearly 3 years to reach 96k, and now adds only 448 a week).

### 6. Visibility / copycats

- Visibility: widely discussed. HN front page (parent brand), separate reviews from Phoronix, ZDNet and How-To Geek, multiple YouTube videos, and Reddit communities. Fully free and open source, so there's no public revenue; the parent company charges for ArtCraft's AI image and video products (there's a Pricing page on the site), unrelated to PdfCraft.

- Criticism: on HN some say these apps have so many bugs they shouldn't be called reimplementations, and criticize people for "gaming" HN for storytold's apps (HN 50050813); others doubt the "clean-room" claim (HN 50002409; storytold replied that it was 100% clean room, no decompilation, HN 50029110).

- Copycats and derivatives: artcraft-android/pdfcraft-android (277 stars, created 10-13), areilly111/CraftApps-Android, awpde/pdfcraft-zh (auto-built Simplified Chinese Windows installer), wongzaputt/pdfcraft-thai, linuxserver/docker-craft-apps (web PdfCraft and others), midasmatterhorn/artcraft-skills, plus SEO review sites like pdnob. The same-named PDFCraftTool/pdfcraft existed as early as 2026-01, so it doesn't count as a copycat.

### 7. Takeaways

- When "AI rebuilds a subscription tool people resent paying for," pick the one with **the broadest demand and the most user reluctance to pay** (PDF editing is the textbook case); that's the easiest to get media and word of mouth for, and "I cancelled X" is the best possible hook.

- Make the UI look like the incumbent leader so switching costs are close to zero, and media reviews can simply say "if you've used Acrobat, you already know how."

- Lead with a platform like Linux that has gone without a good product for years; that can earn separate reviews from Linux columnists like the ZDNet writer.

- What outsiders can still do: localized builds (Chinese and Thai already exist), Android ports, a Docker web version, and guides and SEO sites on "how to use PdfCraft" and "how to replace Acrobat."

### 8. Uncertain

- Of the 3.37M release downloads, how much is repeat counting from self-updates versus launcher distribution is unknown; real install base is unknown.

- The actual star lift from the ZDNet and HTG reviews is unquantified (daily data only starts at 10-17, and no clear jump is visible around 10-19 or 10-22).

- Legal risk of the "clean-room" claim, and whether Adobe will act, are unknown.

- How much search traffic it has siphoned from the same-named PDFCraftTool is unverified.

- Daily star counts from the early period (10-01 to 10-16) aren't in our database; we only know the single-day peak was +1718 on 10-11.

- The GitHub API was rate-limited partway through the research, so total and merged PR counts weren't retrieved.
