# Don't build: per-article AI SEO writing and directory-listing sites sold to indie developers

> Stringers answers one question every day: what small product can one or two people build in a few months and actually make money from. Numbers come from 15 databases we collect daily, each with source and date.
> For agents: these verdicts and the underlying databases (verified revenue, App Store / Google Play charts, ad libraries, GitHub, Product Hunt…) are queryable live over MCP — tools today / hot / products / directions / direction / data. > Don't do it. The buyers are peers with just-launched products, each buys once, and next month someone will build the same thing. Pure directory sites have a median of just over a thousand dollars a month.

# Don't build this: AI SEO articles sold per post to indie devs, plus directory sites for publishing them.

C

**Don't build it. The buyers are peers with newly launched products, each buys once, and someone will ship an identical one next month; a typical pure directory site makes a median of just over $1,000 a month.** The only exception is a manual submission service for listings (ceiling around $10k/month), or switching buyers: selling to dentists, e-commerce stores, or SEO consultants is a different opportunity. Worth studying · grade and title drawn from the full text · next review 12-01

| Background | Monthly Product Hunt launches rose from 22 to 30,019 over 4,736 months, and every new launcher is a customer for directories and AI writers |
|---|---|
| Upside | No. The money in this layer is growing, but more and more new sites are splitting it. Across 30 sites, the average per site dropped from $3,304 (2025-11) to $1,757 (2026-10). |
| Demand | Founders just launched want DR and exposure; they buy once, get no customers, and leave, and next month a new batch arrives |
| Competition | On TrustMRR, 30 directory sites and submission services, 26 of October's have revenue, with a median of $1,132. Directory builders are still getting DMs like 'I'm building a competitor to you, can you help me?' |
| Revenue | RankSpot stalled at $2.2–2.6K/month after reaching #1 on the daily chart; October $1,386. SEObot went from $99K to $35K in a year. Effortless Backlinks made $9,718 in October (a manual service). |
| Growth | Product Hunt launches, swapping sponsor slots, a running list of backlinks on X; only AI Directories and Effortless hold steady through affiliates and agencies |
| Window | Not a window play. New sites keep launching, and the later you join, the thinner the returns. Google's link policy explicitly names low-quality directory links, and there have been three rounds of spam updates in 2026 years. |
| Who it's for | For people who like manual work and have agency channels: offer submission-as-a-service; for those who want to build tools, sell to merchants who can't code |

- **Tiny Startups · Jaisal Rathee。

- **TinyLaunch · Christopher Woggon。

Effortless Backlinks

** Léo Leducq(波尔多,做过几个 SaaS 的全栈)、Paul Vengeons(卡昂,2020 年起做 SEO 顾问,之前在巴黎的代理商)、Nicholas Dulait(布鲁塞尔,前移动开发)。
