# [047] High-ticket B2B content and growth tools (newsletter ghostwriting, outreach, done-for-you services): sell the service first at a service fee, then use the tool internally for efficiency; don't start with self-serve SaaS (the counterexample is HeyNews)

# High-ticket B2B content / growth tools (ghostwritten newsletters, outreach, done-for-you ops): charge service fees for done-for-you work first, then turn the tool into internal efficiency. Don't start with self-serve SaaS (HeyNews is the cautionary tale)

Status

Watching ([HeyNews](https://stringers.io/worth/p/heynews.html) is the only direct sample, and it proves the point from the other side; the positive side has only a few "done-for-you + tool" revenues as supporting evidence, and the revenue mix is inferred)

Why this is written up

By 2026, "AI helps you write X" is no longer scarce. Platforms (Beehiiv, Kit) and general models already deliver 70–80% of it, so self-serve SaaS can't command a high price. Customers willing to pay $99+ a month for B2B want results, not tools. [HeyNews](https://stringers.io/worth/p/heynews.html)'s money has always come from a few large clients, and the tool launch never created an inflection point.

Confidence

Low to medium. The counterexample ([HeyNews](https://stringers.io/worth/p/heynews.html)) is solid evidence; the revenue mix of the positive cases is inferred. Would be overturned by: a purely self-serve B2B content tool with no services that reaches $10,000 MRR from 0 within 6 months with ≥100 subscriptions (proving the self-serve route can work).

- Indie (30 days, as of 11-01): [HeyNews](https://stringers.io/worth/p/heynews.html) (heynews.co, two people in Turkey, newsletter AI ghostwriting, $39 / 99 / 299 / 499 per month) $3,145, MRR $616,5 from subscriptions; 10-28 to 11-01 the five-day numbers didn't move. Monthly revenue: February $2,386, March $4,102 (archived figures), July $2,918, August $512, September $3,116, October $3,145, a flat line. October had revenue on only 5 days, including one 10-10 payment of $2,556 and one 10-26 payment of $499 (archived figures).

- Web (heynews.co/about, 2026-03 interview, archived): 2025-01 started with HeyBe AI as a ghostwriting service, writing roughly 550–600 newsletter issues for clients over a year before opening the tool. In October the founders were doing CRM work, enriching contacts for 724 companies, and presenting at Demo Day, all sales activity.

- Indie (positive supporting evidence, 30 days, as of 11-01): products that bundle service and tool at high prices earn far more. Upscale System LLC ("B2B done-for-you outreach") $93,614,400 from subscriptions; White Glove Content (done-for-you faceless video, see [043]) $65,365,521 from subscriptions, $54–284/month; Local SEO Bot ("agency-grade work, done for you") $12,415; Prymatica (done-for-you cold email that books meetings) $7,454, 27 subscriptions (averaging about $200/month). Whether these firms sold service first and tool later can't be seen in the library; that is inferred.

- Indie (the extreme counterexample): unfair.so $438,427 in 30 days, but with only 47 subscriptions and MRR of $32,570. The report infers the large payments came from done-for-you / service contracts, not SaaS revenue. Its numbers shouldn't be used as a target, but they show that "we do growth for B2B founders" can earn a lot when sold as a service.

### Product Hunt1 pieces of evidence

- PH (2026-05-12): [HeyNews](https://stringers.io/worth/p/heynews.html) launched with 139 votes and placed #8 on the daily chart. Revenue in the launch month and the month after was near zero (June $20). PH did not convert for this kind of high-ticket B2B tool.

## Already doing it

Products that bundle service and tool at high prices: Upscale System LLC, White Glove Content ([043]), Local SEO Bot, Prymatica. The counterexample, which started with self-serve SaaS, is [HeyNews](https://stringers.io/worth/p/heynews.html).

## Reusable playbook

Start as a done-for-you service, charge a service fee, and use your own tool to cut delivery costs. Once the delivery process is stable and you have more clients, consider opening the tool up. Don't treat a PH launch as a growth lever; growth for high-ticket B2B comes from outbound sales and sustained content ([HeyNews](https://stringers.io/worth/p/heynews.html)'s blog traffic dried up after it stopped posting in August).

## The hardest step

Service delivery doesn't scale. One person can only take so many clients. Most people can't make the jump from service to product.

## Who it's for

1–2 people who understand a specific B2B industry (newsletters, outreach, local SEO) and can do sales themselves. Monthly service fee plus tool. Land 5–10 paying clients before talking about productizing.

## Should every product builder know this?

Yes. "For high-ticket B2B, sell the outcome before the tool" applies to every indie dev who wants to build for B2B.
